00:00:43
Nice bounce bank after that unfortunate loss, too.
00:00:47
Well, that team up in Boston who shall not be named, but yeah, after after that, when the Lakers were able to pick up a win up here in New York, get back to their winning ways, saw some really good things, saw some questionable things, we're gonna break it all down.
00:00:59
We'll also talk about the latest trade rumors on tonight's show.
00:01:02
But first, before we dive into it, don't forget, follow Lakers Nation on social media Guys, we've got the trade deadline coming up.

In fact, I'm gonna be doing another one later tonight.
00:01:25
Breaking down the rumors surrounding Robert Covington and whether or not the Lakers might go after him, so keep an eye out for that one.
00:01:31
Joining me to night is a jazz king.
00:01:34
Follow him on Twitter at Jazz King 21 Jazz.
00:01:37
How're you doing, man? Uh, I'm not gonna lie.
00:01:40
I was about half asleep watching that game.
00:01:41
That was one of the most boring Lakers games.
00:01:43
I think is even worse than the blow up lots of Boston on Monday.
00:01:47
It was just They just slogged away through the remaining words.
00:01:50
That was worse for youto watch Lowell and lost to the Boston Celtics.
00:01:54
What kind of Lakers fan are you? There was no good.
00:01:57
There was no good plays.
00:01:58
There is.
00:01:59
There is not much, much going on.
00:02:00
It was just a boring game to watch.
00:02:01
No energy, nothing.
00:02:03
But I mean again, they want the 35 9 So we're gonna we're gonna take the good part of it out of it, and that's it.
00:02:08
So but I mean, I was just I thought the Lakers kind of slept, walked away through this one.
00:02:12
Hard to get up for a team like the next.
00:02:14
I understand that, but always playing at MSG is also always something important, I think, for a lot of NBA players, and LeBron always tries to put on a bit of a show there, too.
00:02:21
But, you know, overall for me, I just don't like the Lakers.
00:02:24
Kind of were like, Okay, we're gonna put in, like, 50% effort here and just kind of eventually take on a win.
00:02:29
What do you think about it? Okay, it wasn't a maximum effort game.
00:02:31
I'll give you that.
00:02:32
But I certainly enjoyed watching the Lakers come away with a win in a boring game, brother, The Lakers get blown out.
00:02:38
Whatever. We're 32 points.
00:02:39
Yeah, in a boring game.
00:02:40
Like I would say that all day, every day because, you know, you hate seeing the Lakers lose to a team like the Boston Celtics.
00:02:48
But bottom line, look, they got the job done right. They got the win.
00:02:52
And we've talked about how conserving energy is part of the part of the plan here for the season.
00:02:56
They have to be able to find ways to get through games, get winds and maybe not have to go 100%.
00:03:02
And so I'm not gonna blame them for tonight's performance.
00:03:05
Yeah, it wasn't the most exciting thing that that there were some interesting moments and things like that.
00:03:10
But you know, the bottom line is the Lakers just a better team than the New York Knicks? And they knew it and the Knicks knew it and it played out like that.
00:03:17
Yeah, that's exactly what it was.
00:03:19
I mean, I was more of the opinion that I wanted them to get an easy win today.
00:03:23
Coming off that ugly performance, obviously, against Celtics, get an easy win.
00:03:26
Go up 2025 rescue guys, because you look at tomorrow in Brooklyn.
00:03:30
Not a great team by any means, obviously.
00:03:31
But gonna be tough to play back to back any time in the n b A, regardless of who the opponent is, and then you're gonna have to go three games and four nights, you're gonna go at Phillies.
00:03:38
I mean, it's a short travel, but you're gonna have to play three games and four nights that's gonna wear down on this team a CZ.
00:03:44
You get there, especially considering this is not a young, you know, high flying or energetic.
00:03:48
Athletically, we know that they're older base so I thought it was really important for them to get an easy win today, so they might be able to conserve some energy going forward.
00:03:55
But I think that game and Billy is gonna be a little bit more tougher than originally was looking at it going into it before this game. Oh, yeah.
00:04:03
Filly, Filly.
00:04:04
That's gonna be a big one.
00:04:05
That's gonna be a tough one.
00:04:06
And then you go to the Clippers.
00:04:07
And by the way, a bunch people are popping into our comments already saying, saying how much they love the Atlanta Hawks.
00:04:11
Because guess what the Hawks did tonight.
00:04:13
Beat the Clippers and people are very excited about that.
00:04:17
And I don't blame you guys.
00:04:18
I'm right there, right there with you.
00:04:19
So Hey, thank you.
00:04:20
Atlanta hugs for, ah, for knocking the Clippers down a peg here.
00:04:24
But yeah, look, the Lakers were did manage to get through this game.
00:04:28
Anthony Davis only played 30 minutes.
00:04:29
LeBron 36.
00:04:30
I'd like to see that be a little bit lower, but he had an efficient night.
00:04:33
Nine of 16 shooting, two of five from deep on.
00:04:35
Lee, one of three from the line, begin That's kind of a minor quibbles.
00:04:38
Six boards, five assists, five steals.
00:04:40
And people are saying LeBron wasn't aggressive enough. He had 21 points.
00:04:43
He did, kind of.
00:04:44
He kind of coasted through the game and still puts up pretty impressive stance and made a big difference in the game.
00:04:50
I think really, he could have played even less minutes if the Lakers had kind of ramped up the intensity just a little bit more.
00:04:57
Yeah, he was.
00:04:58
I mean, I think of the halftime and looking back at it now, I think at one point he was sitting at nine of 11 or 9 to 12 from the field.
00:05:04
So and that was that was, you know, early in the third quarter.
00:05:07
So you didn't really put much effort in your right.
00:05:09
And where was leaving the comments on that? Dead? Yeah, I didn't do anything in terms of being aggressive.
00:05:13
Get into the whole again, shooting three free throws, but Anthony Davis, 13 free throws.
00:05:17
He was obviously getting his and kind of being ableto really take on whoever was guarding him down there.
00:05:23
So again, it was just a weird night to see the way the energy was and how it was like, OK, hurry up, Lakers.
00:05:28
Let's put this game away.
00:05:29
I didn't think it was the Knicks had any chance at any point of the game.
00:05:32
It was just something you were waiting for them to kind of take over.
00:05:35
But for me, this kind of points out a flood.
00:05:38
We've talked about this a lot as well On the show is that we're not looking at this team based off how they're doing one wins in the regular season.
00:05:44
We're looking at it.
00:05:45
What are some of the holes in the playoffs, and and for me, it's like this is still going to be a concern, especially with the bench.
00:05:50
It just wait.
00:05:51
It's been way too up and down some games and look like world beaters are combining for 50 points.
00:05:55
And then even on a night like tonight, I mean, they didn't do much.
00:05:57
They end up combining for 38 points.
00:05:59
A lot of that, I think, was towards the end of the game, too.
00:06:00
But, um, you know what I know we're gonna do? We're gonna jump into this.
00:06:04
But how important is it for them to look at getting another ball handler.
00:06:08
Look at getting a guy like Darren Collison.
00:06:10
I mean, Derrick Rose has been on fire as well.
00:06:12
So how important you think that's going to be for this team in order to solidify itself not only as just a championship contender, but one of the walkie You hard to argue with the Bucks being being number one on the list or not, just based on what they're doing? But in order to firmly cement the Lakers is number two words to me. They already are.
00:06:27
How important is it? Do you think that they get one of those guys? Oh, I think it's extremely important.
00:06:30
And that's not like tonight's probably not the night to rip Roger on Rondo because he shot two of he shot two of four from deep, which you'll take that right from You.
00:06:39
Love to see that, right? Yeah, you love it.
00:06:41
And as he hit those shots, I thought, Gosh, he's been shooting so poorly from the three point line lately that it's almost like the success he had early in the season kind of got washed away.
00:06:50
And so I'm hoping there's a positive regression there because there was a point in time when Rhonda was playable, where he was a guy that you could put out there because he would punish teams for some for not defending him like there was a There was a play tonight where Dennis Smith Jr was supposed to be defending Rondo and Smith Jr.
00:07:04
Rhonda was behind the three and Dennis McCoy Junior had two feet in the paint.
00:07:09
He wasn't paying attention to him at all, and the ball got kicked around.
00:07:12
Oh, and he didn't shoot it.
00:07:14
He drove it, ultimately turned into a Lakers basket.
00:07:17
But those types of plays kill me.
00:07:19
But overall, on the night I thought Rondo did just fine.
00:07:22
But yes, I agree with you.
00:07:23
Just I think long term, you need somebody else.
00:07:25
You need someone else that you can turn to in order to get in order to get buckets off the bench.
00:07:31
Because, like you said, they look kind of lethargic tonight.
00:07:33
Wasn't a great performance from them.
00:07:35
Uh, look, you look at the plus minus.
00:07:39
Brando was a minus five.
00:07:41
Dwight Howard was a minus six plus eight for Kyle Cosmos.
00:07:43
So there's something there, plus four from K. C. p.
00:07:46
I kind of expected a little bit Maur out of this Lakers bench against a bad next team, and we just didn't quite see it.
00:07:52
Yeah, and again, I think that just comes from from energy level and after it.
00:07:56
Mind you guys were staying in New York City to know what the hell they have planned for tonight.
00:07:59
What they have planned for tomorrow, they might have might be looking forward to having a good night out and having a good team night, having a dinner and go to the bar, whatever it is.
00:08:06
So who knows if they were really focused on and again, we've talked about this the next.
00:08:10
Think they're terrible basketball team.
00:08:11
They're terrible basketball franchise.
00:08:13
Hard to get up for a game like that.
00:08:14
But, you know, for me, yeah, that's one of the things I want to keep an eye on going forward as we get into the last No.
00:08:20
37 38 games in a season now is are they gonna be able to bring that consistent? We've talked a lot about Kalle Kuzma.
00:08:26
He's done.
00:08:27
He's done good in spurts and and not so good and other parts so for me again.
00:08:30
That's something I'm always willing to keep an eye on is because we talked about this during the game when that second unit is out there with rage on Rondo did look like an eighties office.
00:08:38
They're not moving the ball stuck in get stagnant.
00:08:41
Want one? Yeah, it gets boring to watch.
00:08:43
And so for me, I'm like, Okay, that is something that we really do need to address because I think that that could be the difference in winning or losing a single playoff game.
00:08:51
And and that's a huge deal, especially when it comes down for April May.
00:08:54
So that, and I think that's where the Lakers need to improve going forward. Absolutely.
00:08:57
That's definitely an area that they need to improve in.
00:08:59
I think the few other areas include finding another, another three and D Wing, which we've talked about.
00:09:04
Daniel Middleton for Facebook chimes in Rondo is not the answer.
00:09:07
I agree he's not.
00:09:08
He's not the answer at this point, but I think that he can still help you in spurts.
00:09:13
But if you could go get a Darren Collison, I'm all for that for these Lakers.
00:09:17
But here's the other thing.
00:09:19
And, you know, actually, before I get to this point, I have to meet you because a bunch of people are throwing this out there.
00:09:24
M v P. Caruso.
00:09:26
Alex Caruso.
00:09:27
It's M v P Chants at Madison Square Garden.
00:09:30
Caruso mania.
00:09:31
The Karoo show.
00:09:33
It's everywhere it's nationwide.
00:09:35
This'd becoming is becoming a bigger and bigger thing.
00:09:39
And by the way, let me take this opportunity to give a shout out to Ah, you on Twitter at Dark Night 83.
00:09:45
Who sent us a picture from his seats at the Garden? He's there repping the Lakers and cheering for the Lakers.
00:09:51
I guarantee you he was one of the people there, joining M V P for Alex Russo.
00:09:55
Always cool to see support for the Lakers when they're on the road.
00:09:59
Oh, you mean when we're seeing it in in in Bunches? Now? Because I mean now the Lakers, always one of the one supreme their teams in the N b a.
00:10:06
No doubt about that, and they're always a road drop whenever they come in.
00:10:09
But the energy is a little bit more hyped up, I would say, because the Lakers are playing so **** good this season and Alex Caruso at the forefront.
00:10:16
You know, we did say that.
00:10:17
He's like he's kind of getting sick of it.
00:10:18
He's getting tired of it.
00:10:19
But listen, Alex, there's nothing you could do about it.
00:10:21
Leakers Nation is completely buying us. Enjoy that.
00:10:24
We're doing this all season.
00:10:25
You just enjoy the record.
00:10:26
You know that.
00:10:27
He didn't have, like, an amazing night tonight that he messed up. He filed.
00:10:31
He gave it an away from the ball foul before the ball had been inbounded.
00:10:35
Ah, at the end of the game there, he had two points.
00:10:37
One board, one assist, one steal, one block.
00:10:39
It wasn't like he blew up or anything like that, but just cool in general.
00:10:43
Not even just Caruso seeing the support that the Lakers got out there.
00:10:46
But one thing that we do need to address your Jackson.
00:10:48
This is becoming a bigger and bigger thing because we saw Boston do this to the Lakers to 13 offensive rebounds for the New York Knicks, and I keep coming back to this.
00:10:56
Why is this happening? The Lakers are leading the league in shot blocking.
00:11:02
They blocked more shots.
00:11:03
Anybody else, they are.
00:11:05
They're bigger and physically stronger than most teams on most nights.
00:11:10
And yet there are middle of the pack rebounding team, and teams are now consistently finding success against them on the offensive glass.
00:11:17
What is happening? Because on paper, this should not be taking place, and I'm becoming more and more concerned about it.
00:11:24
Yeah, I think it's It's not an issue with Per se, Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee, although they are getting beat sometimes as the big men.
00:11:32
You know what out there? You know, not just not getting a good box out.
00:11:35
I think it's a team rebounding thing.
00:11:36
I think you're looking at it.
00:11:37
If some of the guards are able to get in there, the three of its position was passable now.
00:11:41
But you know what I mean.
00:11:42
One of the Fords, who is not necessarily a power forward or center is kind of coming in and getting their hands on it.
00:11:47
That's on the guys on the outside.
00:11:49
The perimeter guys aren't boxing out there.
00:11:50
They're kind of leaking right away or they're just kind of being lazy and looking back.
00:11:53
They got to start being able to make sure they're getting a body on their man, and that's enabling their big men to be able to clean up the glass around the place.
00:11:59
For me.
00:12:00
I think it's more of a team rebounding thing that individuals what about, you know, I agree with that. It would that assessment.
00:12:05
I totally agree, because we saw last game.
00:12:07
One of the issues the Lakers have is defending bigger wings.
00:12:10
We've seen that throughout the season.
00:12:11
KCP I've said it.
00:12:14
It's not fair to KCP to ask him to go defend Kawai, Leonard or the other day, Jason Tatum or Jimmy Butler.
00:12:21
Any of these big wing players and the Lakers have kind of gotten picked on in situations where they get a smaller wing.
00:12:27
A Caruso, a KCP.
00:12:28
Someone like that who's about 6564 and you get one of them stuck on some big wing players and then, like you mentioned when the Lakers big either goes for a block shot or gets boxed out, or is in a kind of 50 50 battle with the other team's big, the Lakers don't have those secondary reminders right now.
00:12:46
And that's been been an issue and something that I don't think It's something you go trade to fakes or anything like that.
00:12:52
I think it's something that you try to scheme around.
00:12:54
Maybe you can fix it a little bit.
00:12:56
If you get another big wing like that will naturally fix it to some degree.
00:13:00
But I think for the most part, it's something for Frank Vogel to address and try to point out in the film sessions and show.
00:13:06
Look, if you don't box out if you don't really put a body on guys, this is what's going to happen.
00:13:11
I think it's becoming.
00:13:13
It's moving up the ladder in terms of my concerns for the Lakers right now is how they're gonna handle the glass moving forward.
00:13:19
Yeah, you're right.
00:13:20
I don't think it's something like three point shooting.
00:13:21
We're looking at it and saying Hey, we can bring in this guy to help address that or there's option.
00:13:27
Tell her to bring in from other teams Into this to me is just something that they're just being lazy.
00:13:31
It's pure fundamentals, right? What it wasn't supposed to be is if your guys, unless you're planning on saying hey as soon as soon as we see a shot, go up.
00:13:38
If you're the guy at the closest to, um, you know the center line of three point line, you're taking off right away.
00:13:43
You gotta turn and get a body on your guy.
00:13:45
It doesn't matter if it's if it's even like a little hip on him.
00:13:48
You kind of get a little bump, whatever it is.
00:13:49
And I think that right was Frank Vogel.
00:13:51
We've seen him not be afraid to change up his rotation based on what is happening in the game.
00:13:55
What is happening in a certain player if they're, if they're in a funk or not and how they're doing.
00:13:59
We see Kuzma get Ben.
00:14:00
Sometimes we see him play 35 minutes sometimes.
00:14:02
So I think Frank Vogel's been very good about changing.
00:14:04
And you're right.
00:14:05
He's got a challenge of next film session.
00:14:06
It's a fellas.
00:14:07
If you're not, if you're not getting a body on your guy, you're not attempting to block out.
00:14:10
We're gonna we're gonna you're gonna be sitting next to me on the bench the entire time, So I think that's something that, you know, like you mentioned, that they are going to have to start address it.
00:14:18
I'll tell you what, they're just let's say that the Lakers do wind up with Darren Collison, and we don't know if that's gonna happen or not.
00:14:23
We don't know if the recent Derrick Rose rumors that the Lakers are interested in and Rose are a sign that maybe they're not getting Collison because I think you know, objectively and probably better for the Lakers to get Collison without having to give up any assets versus having to trade a bunch of assets with that they don't have in order to get Derrick Rose.
00:14:41
So maybe that's a sign there.
00:14:42
Maybe it's not.
00:14:43
But let's say the Lakers are able to get Collison.
00:14:45
And so you dress the point guard issue that way, and then you're able to turn and focus on that big wing.
00:14:50
That's gonna probably help.
00:14:52
You're rebounding, help you out certainly defensively when you're dealing with Big Wings, the playoffs, one of the guys that I like, and I don't know that they can get their salary wise but had a pretty nice game.
00:15:01
Marcus Morris for the New York had a hell of a season and a really nice night tonight for them.
00:15:06
I would not mind if the Lakers found some way to bring him to the purple and gold? Yeah, I was actually in the exact same thing when I was watching.
00:15:13
I'm like, ****, this guy would be perfect playing on the Lakers right now just for what he brings in terms of the physicality he can't.
00:15:19
He has the capability of going off in scoring 20 points on any given night.
00:15:22
Might not be able to do it every night, but he can.
00:15:24
You know, he has that capability in him again.
00:15:27
And we've talked about this too.
00:15:29
It's like you mentioned Robert Covington off the top.
00:15:31
Where we gonna have the cap space or you're gonna have the assets in order to bring those guys in.
00:15:35
So it depends on how you know stubborn the Knicks are gonna be about this if they're gonna be, like, how the Memphis Grizzlies have 100 handled Andre Iguodala.
00:15:43
You're probably not going to pry off Maura setting out of New York, right? Yeah, that's that's the thing.
00:15:48
If you're the Knicks, and you know you're not gonna be a playoff bound, you know that you were going to be terrible for the what eleventy if season in a row at this point, right, they are Basically it's been bad, right? It's to the point where I almost feel bad for Knicks fans because they've had to endure this terrible team.
00:16:08
And I'll tell you what.
00:16:09
I also feel bad for Mike Breen.
00:16:10
He's too good to be calling games like it.
00:16:13
It doesn't seem right.
00:16:14
It doesn't seem right.
00:16:15
But as of as of right now, when we're looking at Marcus Morris, he's making 15 million this season and that's it, right? So here that if you're the next, it's not like you want to keep him long term and if you know you're not going to the playoffs anyway, you might as well get what you can for him now.
00:16:29
I don't know that the Lakers can reach that level in terms of ah trade if they can put together enough salaries in order to get there while giving the next something that they would want in order to entice them to make a deal, other teams will be after him to the Clippers are gonna be after him and they have a big expiring contract and Mo Harkless that they may be considering moving.
00:16:46
They could throw in the first round pick, so I think other teams can beat the Lakers offer.
00:16:50
But if they could figure out a way to get him, I think Marcus Morris will be a tremendous fit given the Lakers, the shooting, the defense, the size that grit, all of that that they need.
00:16:58
In fact, I would if you could get Marcus Morris.
00:17:00
I would rather do that than go out then.
00:17:02
Then get on Andre Iguodala.
00:17:04
If you had to trade for a dollar that you would, you would rather go with that.
00:17:08
Then just say no matter what, trying get more because you'll get him cheaper.
00:17:10
Is that what you think? So I'm saying, like Like if Iguodala, let's say he's not gonna become a free agent and your option is you have to trade for him.
00:17:17
If I'm going to give up pieces to get either under Iguodala or give it pieces to get Marcus Morris, and that's, you know, obviously going reaching a bit on my own because I don't know the Lakers really have enough salaries to get there, But let's say you get either one of them and you have the pieces.
00:17:31
I'd rather give assets to get Marcus Morris.
00:17:33
Then get a dollar. I'm a doctor.
00:17:35
But you mean that? Because you think that Morris is gonna be a better fit or that you're not giving up much assets for for him.
00:17:42
You know, if the assets were equal, I would prefer Morris over What would you guess what? I think he's the better fit.
00:17:48
I think that it's three point shooting.
00:17:50
It goes way beyond what? What would all I can do? I think he brings a similar similar level of defense.
00:17:55
The toughness, all of that.
00:17:56
I think you'd be a perfect fit for the Lakers, so I would be thrilled.
00:17:59
I'd be thrilled if they could go get him.
00:18:01
So if they do get a guy like boards that you're looking at over over a medulla, do you think he's on the court at the end of finish off games? Or is he a guy who's gonna be Maur? You know he's gonna get 15 20 night, but not really in clutch time.
00:18:12
You're not looking for him to be out there? No, I think he very well could be out there in crunch time because He's a veteran because he's been in those big moments because he can help you out in those areas, especially with the spacing and all that kind of stuff.
00:18:22
I think that he is a guy that you could, uh you could lean on.
00:18:26
I would disagree.
00:18:27
I still think that Iguodala masks a lot.
00:18:29
I just think he's just gonna cost a lot more if Memphis ends up going that way and saying, Hey, we're not getting rid of them until you know on February 6, unless the team blows us out of the water with an offer, we're not gonna get rid of the guy, But to me, I just think I like what a good dollar brings in terms of leadership.
00:18:43
And he studied.
00:18:44
Marcus Morris is also a wild card.
00:18:46
He's and he's a crazy man, you know what I mean? You go off and do something stupid, you can mess with your chemistry.
00:18:51
I think it would. Allah would come in fit in seamlessly.
00:18:53
I think you would be.
00:18:54
I think you'd better defender overall that Marcus Morris I would get Morris to the edge in terms of being an offensive playmakers a little bit more than than what would l.
00:19:01
A brings.
00:19:02
But I just think that what you've seen Iguodala do with the Warriors, especially during their glorious will run that they had over there for the last five seasons.
00:19:08
I just think if you can bring that for a year or even two for the Lakers, that's a bigger plus than it is for Marcus Moore.
00:19:14
Okay, fair enough.
00:19:15
I agree to disagree on that one, but you know what? Look, you say that he's a little bit crazy.
00:19:20
So was run our test metta world peace and whatever you wanna call him.
00:19:24
Sometimes you need a little bit of crazy on a team not saying that you want to go and get a bunch of great.
00:19:29
That's what the Lakers did last year.
00:19:31
I went and grabbed Lance Stephenson and Michael Beasley and all those kinds of guys You can't have too many, but a little bit a little bit of crazy.
00:19:38
I think you could get that can actually help can actually help your team.
00:19:41
Uh, let's talk a little bit about one other thing.
00:19:44
Wouldn't other stat that jumped off that I texted you about this.
00:19:47
Jazz jumped off the page at me, I went.
00:19:50
How is this even possible? The Lakers had 10 turnovers on the night.
00:19:54
The Knicks had 25 points off of turnovers.
00:19:58
How did that is? Ridiculous.
00:20:01
Like the Lakers or one of the worst teams in the league as far as giving up points off turnovers, giving up points on fast breaks.
00:20:07
But for the next to score 25 points on 10 Lakers turnovers, That right there is why this game is so close.
00:20:14
Like if you put that down to a more normal level, this game's a blowout in the Lakers favor that that is a ridiculous standard.
00:20:20
I don't know if we're going to see anything like that for the rest of the season.
00:20:24
We'll get It was energy, man.
00:20:25
I mean, they were getting turned over and they weren't even been weren't even like hustling to get back here.
00:20:28
It was like, Okay, cool will saunter back on our transition defense.
00:20:32
The Knicks got a few theories out of that.
00:20:33
They got to the free throw line a couple times.
00:20:35
I think that's all it was.
00:20:36
This game was was brutal. It was ugly.
00:20:39
It was obviously not the Lakers at their best, and and we knew we could see that from I think the opening tip, I mean, even in the first quarter was a three point game.
00:20:47
I was kind of looking at it thinking to myself, Okay, I'm waiting for them to do it.
00:20:51
Then once we got to the third quarter on Mike, now the Knicks are gonna stick around the entire time.
00:20:55
And I think that this sloppiness and the fact that you said like scoring 25 points That means they have to at least four, maybe five threes out of that because you're trying to look at the point and brought how we would figure out like that.
00:21:05
So you're like, Okay, you know, and I was watching him.
00:21:07
Transition defense, jogging back, not finding their men, not closing out.
00:21:11
It was a combination of everything, but again, the next Inc.
00:21:13
So they're able to get able to get away.
00:21:15
I feel like they kind of went into the game with that with that mindset.
00:21:19
You know what the look when we're looking at at all these different things and we're getting, by the way, tons of comments coming in here about who could potentially beat the Lakers, who, with the Lakers take out in the playoffs and and what's gonna be coming up? But when we're looking at all of this, you think about how many turnovers Lakers actually had.
00:21:35
That's only 10 10 game.
00:21:38
The Knicks just capitalize on those tents.
00:21:40
Oh, thank goodness they didn't turn the ball over.
00:21:41
More than that, that would have been been pretty tough.
00:21:44
Um, let's look here this.
00:21:47
I'm gonna dive into some of your fan questions and comments here, guys, So keep firing them off.
00:21:52
But a lot of people here are not happy with Danny Green.
00:21:55
And look, there's like 10 different comments that have just come in the last few minutes about how happy they're, how unhappy they are with Danny Green.
00:22:03
If you look at his stat line on the night Danny Green, one of seven shooting one of four from 32 boards to steals three points in 19 minutes, making 15 million this year and that's what really trips people up, they hear that 15 million.
00:22:16
Uh, do we stick with the standard line that Danny Green is going to perform in the playoffs? Or are you at all concerned at this point that Danny Green is kind of not playing so well.
00:22:28
I was concerned that he can't make a simple MBA pass.
00:22:30
When you threw up that ugly, locked Anthony Davis on that little fact trip, I remember that.
00:22:35
I thought I thought there it is because they've talked about in the past how they haven't been able to throw a lob too high for a d yet that he just keeps extending those arms and all that. I went up.
00:22:44
There it is.
00:22:45
There it is that I found out the height that Anthony Davis can't reach to.
00:22:47
Congratulations, Danny Green.
00:22:49
You you want you want, you can't reach the u can't reach 15 feet in the air to go up in a ball And that was that.
00:22:54
That was such a bad, fast like great.
00:22:55
But, um, I think Danny Green is what he is.
00:22:58
I could see what people get frustrated with the fact that he's making $50 million a year and not really being consistent.
00:23:04
But he's a good guy, not a guy.
00:23:06
Expect to come out and score.
00:23:07
He gets bored.
00:23:08
14 16 point tonight.
00:23:09
He's never been that way he can hit some open jumpers for you.
00:23:13
You know, you look back.
00:23:14
He had 20 points against Houston last week and that and that went on Saturday, 11 points versus Orlando, which is What were you expecting to be, you know, 9 10 points a point tonight.
00:23:21
I just think it's consistency, which is a new issue to me.
00:23:25
For a lot of the guy's not named Anthony Davis and LeBron James on the Lakers that offensively, they're not able to bring it on a consistent basis.
00:23:32
I think he's one of those guys, but I also think he's one of the 45 best player is still on the Lakers, even with how he's playing right now.
00:23:38
What about you? Yeah, Look, I agree.
00:23:40
And if you look at you, look at the market last summer, you look at where we were at, right? Danny Green? Was it? There was no one else who could do what he does on the market.
00:23:49
There were no other options.
00:23:50
It was Get him or nothing, right? Yeah.
00:23:54
They hold their big pickle there, right? And that would have been a been a big, big problem.
00:23:57
So the Lakers have to kind of pay up in order to get him 15 million was above a price that I was comfortable with.
00:24:03
I said that if it's 3 15 million was too much.
00:24:06
In fact, before the contract was even announced, I was saying that 15 million was enough to where I'd probably shy away from it if there were other options just because of the potential for a regression in terms of his three point shooting.
00:24:17
But that doesn't mean that Danny Green can't do good things like like if he was making 10 million, I'd be totally fine with it.
00:24:23
It's just the number I think that trips people of.
00:24:25
That's not say You can't contribute out there on the floor than me.
00:24:27
Look at the stats For the month of January, he's shooting 41% from deep 41%.
00:24:32
That's really good.
00:24:34
You'll take that, given that he plays pretty good defense and I think that he is still that piece that's gonna help them moving forward.
00:24:41
But yes, I would love if the Lakers were not paying him 15 million and if they could have used that some of that money somewhere else and brought in some other quality pieces.
00:24:48
Who those pieces are, I don't know, but I'm just saying it doesn't feel like it's money well spent at this point.
00:24:53
But again, that does not mean that Danny Green can't be a contributor and can't help you potentially win a championship.
00:24:59
Okay, I'll put you on the spot again.
00:25:00
Here's a 15 year for three years of Danny Greene or 50 millions for one season of Marcus Morris.
00:25:05
Right now, what would you go with? Oh, that's a good one.
00:25:09
Um, I'm gonna go Marcus Morris on that, and Danny Green is the better shooter and everything.
00:25:15
But because of that one year deal that gives you a little bit more flexibility moving forward, so I'd go with that.
00:25:22
But Danny Green is only our two year deal, so he's only got this year next year, so that's not that's not you, but I think he can contribute, but again.
00:25:30
So I'm not down on Danny Green, but I look performances like this.
00:25:33
I get why people immediately go to 15 million.
00:25:35
He's not worth it and get frustrated.
00:25:38
Well, I mean, I see here's the thing, and again, I think Sometimes we end up getting so caught up.
00:25:42
We had this discussion about Bruce, so when we did, the in person show on Saturday against against the Rockets is you're not.
00:25:48
You're not gonna come out and blow you away with his number.
00:25:50
You're not going back.
00:25:51
Oh, my God, that's true.
00:25:52
What he did out there like you also look at Danny Greene's defensive rating is one of the better ones on the team you look at.
00:25:56
His net rating is He's third on the team overall, just fine.
00:25:59
Alex Caruso and and LeBron James.
00:26:01
So they're doing good things when he's on the court.
00:26:02
He's also playing.
00:26:03
You know what, 25 26 minutes a night right now.
00:26:06
So for me, I think people lose sight of that.
00:26:09
Sometimes I get it 15 million.
00:26:11
Yeah, might be a little bit too rich for for what he's bringing.
00:26:13
But I mean, what would have been a fair contract with two years at 10 million for 11 million? You know, you know that when you're crying over spilled milk, especially when it comes to end the money Could these guys make a crap ton compared compared to a lot of the other sport.
00:26:24
So that's what bright. Yeah, absolutely.
00:26:26
And here's the other thing, too.
00:26:27
That we need to throw in is that let's say that Anthony Davis re signs this summer, which you know ever all signs are pointing to.
00:26:32
Yes, that's going to happen.
00:26:34
So anything to Davis re signs.
00:26:35
Let's say the Lakers go spend their mid level exception money.
00:26:37
They'll about nine million or so to spend.
00:26:40
And then that's it.
00:26:41
You don't have a whole lot of other avenues to improve your team, but you'll have a $15 million expiring contract and Danny Green that right now the Lakers don't have.
00:26:49
And that's kind of, um, that's kind of hamstringing Rob Pelinka because he doesn't have that big expiring contract offer in any kind of deal.
00:26:57
So imagine if you've got a big and I'm saying, if Danny Green doesn't really turn it on, if you just doesn't quite live up to the potential or whatever that he's got, you at least could use him as a big expiring contract, which can be pretty useful in trade situation.
00:27:09
So again, Danny Green, I think he can contribute on the floor, but his salary could become useful in the future too.
00:27:16
So there may be some value there.
00:27:19
Well, I agree with you 100%.
00:27:21
I think you're looking at next season.
00:27:22
And like you mentioned, he's not really doing his thing and playing up to play up to speed.
00:27:25
Yeah, you're gonna look at you gotta look at get rid of them.
00:27:27
But I'm mostly a firm believer, in fact, that what I've seen from Danny Green over the years in terms of even the last year on the Raptor and in his run with the postseason he wasn't great.
00:27:38
I think it only average, like 78 maybe points a game, you know, with the rapid.
00:27:41
But he started every single time, and he was he was a key cog in their machine.
00:27:44
So you do need players like that and he gets a big shots at opportune times where I think you're looking at the rest of Lakers right now.
00:27:51
You're still gonna think that you know Alex Caruso as great as he's been in terms of for his role, what he's doing is you could be able to do that in the playoffs.
00:27:57
Do we know that's a completely different beast, right? The scouting reports a more in depth.
00:28:01
The intensity on defense goes up.
00:28:02
You're playing against high level competition every single time.
00:28:05
Where's Danny Green? It's proven that you can put him out there in the situation that he's not gonna mess it up for you.
00:28:10
And I think that that's where again.
00:28:11
Maybe a little bit, too.
00:28:12
Not enough for 15 million.
00:28:14
But I also think he's still a very good auction for what he is on this team.
00:28:17
Yeah, yep, agreed.
00:28:18
Thinking is right there and and he'll be a nice piece moving forward for the Lakers into the playoffs because he's been there, done that.
00:28:24
And he's a guy that you can you can rely on. I know he's playoffs.
00:28:27
Performance wasn't great last year, but I think it's a veteran.
00:28:29
He's a guy that you're gonna want out there on the floor.
00:28:32
So let's let's talk here this game.
00:28:34
Obviously, look, the Lakers were the better team.
00:28:37
There's not a ton to break down.
00:28:38
The Lakers were the better team, right? Terrible Nix Nix, A really bad Anthony Davis got through a game against the New York Knicks without getting hurt.
00:28:48
So then So there's that.
00:28:50
Okay.
00:28:51
Danny Green didn't play.
00:28:52
Agreed last day.
00:28:53
I want to finish with the Lakers closing line up.
00:28:54
We saw LeBron Alex Crusoe, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, K C P.
00:28:58
Is that a lineup that you want to see them close games with moving forward? Chicago Koosman Be part of that.
00:29:04
He was for a little bit and then they switch it up.
00:29:06
What are your thoughts on that closing five? Well, I I think again, This is where Frank Vogel has been great all season is he's not sticking with one thing he's not stick in with.
00:29:16
This is my closing line up. These are my guys.
00:29:18
He's saying, Hey, whatever Whoever is playing the best and whatever the matchup dictates in terms of what we're gonna try and exploit, that's what we're gonna go with.
00:29:24
So, um, again, I like it because they were able to hang on against again against a crappy New York Knicks team.
00:29:30
But I think for me, that is going to be something that's gonna be fluid all season.
00:29:34
And I think that'll change in the playoffs, too, depending on the situation.
00:29:37
What about you? Yeah, I agree.
00:29:38
I think Frank Vogel has earned the ability or earned the right to go ahead and make some matches lineups, how he sees fit.
00:29:44
He picks the pieces that he thinks are going to work best, and most of the time it works.
00:29:48
Others times, where does it, But most of the time it works out, and so so that's been a strength for the Lakers right now is their ability to adjust on the fly.
00:29:55
I do think ultimately, Kyle Kuzma, I would like to see him out there, But just the way this game was going, I thought it made a lot of sense what Vogel did.
00:30:03
KCP has become, I think, their most consistent offensive threat off the bench.
00:30:08
So I like the floor spacing that he provided out there.
00:30:10
You and I were talking at one point that floor spacing look terrific when Rhonda was on the floor, even though he hit two of four from three.
00:30:16
And I would say I wouldn't even mind seeing some Quinn cook out there.
00:30:18
Just getting some more spacing can open things up a bit.
00:30:21
Spacing matters a ton, and so I liked having KCP out there with LeBron and a D.
00:30:26
I thought that was a really nice, nice fit.
00:30:28
You have to have him out there basically.
00:30:30
Otherwise, you're spacing a shot.
00:30:31
And then, Dwight, I thought, did some good things on the defensive end of them.
00:30:34
When the Lakers decided they needed a little bit more spacing, they pulled their big and then through.
00:30:39
I believe Kuzma back in there.
00:30:41
So look, overall.
00:30:42
Nice job by Frank Vogel, and we'll see what he does.
00:30:45
Moving forward now.
00:30:46
That being said tomorrow, the Lakers go go back to back and they're playing a better New York team.
00:30:53
Well, Brooklyn team, right? They have to go play the Nets.
00:30:56
So what are you looking for in that one, Jess? I just think, you know, doing Dude in that the Nets are struggling right now.
00:31:02
They've lost four in a row.
00:31:04
Kyrie Irving, the one who's most probably the most miserable person in the N B A.
00:31:08
It looks like he's bringing them down.
00:31:09
There is.
00:31:10
Well, I just think again, if the Lakers come up with this type of effort that they had today, yeah, they'd be in danger of losing that game again.
00:31:17
I don't think they get blown out because bookings out an upper actual on team.
00:31:20
That might change when? When Katie comes back next year.
00:31:22
But, um you know, I think if they again, they come up with just a solid good effort.
00:31:26
Play good defense.
00:31:27
Try and limit how much damage Kyrie Irving does to you.
00:31:29
Obviously don't wanna have him go out for 50 points and keep his team minute.
00:31:32
I just think if they do that clothes out on the shooters because Bookman does have a lot of suitors and they're not doing that great in terms of the three point shooting team this year.
00:31:39
I do think that, you know, those are gonna be the keys, but and again, you want to try and beat this team and be up 15 20 Not to say that easy, but be up a little bit so you can get some rest going into that big game Saturday and prime time against six, right? Yeah, absolutely.
00:31:53
If you can get a team and we've talked about this, how they need to load manage in game and that means blowing out some teams, then getting LeBron anything.
00:32:00
Davis on the bench in the fourth quarters, hasn't happened nearly as much as we want.
00:32:04
You did mention Kyrie.
00:32:05
He has had a hamstring issue, but he is probable to play against the Lakers.
00:32:09
So you probably will see some Kyrie out there.
00:32:11
Look, Yeah, you're right.
00:32:12
The Nets have not been good lately.
00:32:13
Even though there was some buzz around them early on and it looked like they were going to be kind of one of those fun teams.
00:32:19
Spencer Dinwiddie is very, very good.
00:32:21
They've got a couple of guards there in Kyrie and didn't want me. They can light you up.
00:32:24
Caris.
00:32:25
Levert can cause problems. We saw the Nets in preseason.
00:32:27
This team is is good.
00:32:28
They've got some some solid wings that can do some things for them.
00:32:31
But overall, unless the Lakers give up some huge offensive performance to Din Witty and Kyrie and maybe Joe Harris gets hot from deep or something like that, this should be a win for the Lakers.
00:32:43
But, you know, it's the MBA. Anything could happen.
00:32:46
Well, I think the key for the Lakers were gonna be controlling the control in the paint and taken advantage again of Anthony Don't.
00:32:51
Just down there, You know, I know Jared Allen having a good season.
00:32:54
They're playing center, but not great.
00:32:56
I just think that the Lakers air figure they're stronger.
00:32:59
Take advantage of that.
00:33:00
Slow the game down a little bit.
00:33:01
You want to get into a track, meet with these guys, either use what you have in your favor.
00:33:05
Whoever is matching up with 80 LeBron and make sure that that guy and it's like JAVALE and Dwight Howard when they're out there are crashing the board on the offensive end and also the defense event making sure they're protecting the rim.
00:33:16
And I don't I don't think the net should be able to even run with the Lakers.
00:33:18
They get.
00:33:19
They're able to do that.
00:33:20
Well, I mean, like that.
00:33:21
We saw it in preseason.
00:33:22
The Nets shoot a ton of threes, and that gave the Lakers some problems during preseason play.
00:33:25
I would hope that the Lakers would come out here and play with a little bit of sharpest at least and can take care of this team because in preseason the Nets did light up the Lakers a little bit.
00:33:34
So maybe there's a little bit cause for concern there, but you know What, like you mentioned DeAndre, Jordan's out right now.
00:33:39
Jared Allen is really their only center in there.
00:33:42
So there's gonna be a lot of minutes where the Nets don't really have a true center on the floor.
00:33:46
Maybe they forced the Lakers to go small, but more likely, I think the Lakers Biggs are going to be a key component to getting a win here against Brooklyn.
00:33:53
If they can feast on the inside, feast on the offensive boards, it's gonna be a good night for the Lakers.
00:33:58
I gotta I gotta read this to you.
00:34:00
10 years ago, Lee of the l A.
00:34:01
Times tweet promote Dwight Howard said he wants to get Colby to be a part of his dumb contest performance.
00:34:07
You haven't asked will be yet because he said he wants to get fans behind the idea first.
00:34:11
What do you think of that? I don't know what to say. Yes.
00:34:17
Do you believe in unlikely hoods? I'm gonna go.
00:34:20
Don't go, Dodge.
00:34:23
I mean, are you kidding me? Dwight, like this is this is the craziest Dwight Howard season ever, right? If he pulls that off like, how unlikely wasn't that Dwight Howard would come back to the Lakers and be welcomed with open arms and be a fan favorite within a few games.
00:34:41
Knowing the venom that was out there towards Dwight Howard and now the guy he didn't get along with, he left the Lakers because Kobe wasn't gonna be handing over the reins anytime soon.
00:34:50
And that's the guy that he wants to cut.
00:34:52
Get, come, assist him in the N B.
00:34:55
A slam dunk contest.
00:34:57
It's brilliant, and I would love to see it happen.
00:35:00
I don't think it will.
00:35:01
I don't think Kobe does it.
00:35:02
I mean, he's kind of stayed away, you know? But yeah, it would be a great moment.
00:35:07
If it does happen, I'll say that I will be excited.
00:35:09
If it does happen, I think it will be kind of the final like the hatchet is officially buried regarding Dwight Howard and the Lakers.
00:35:16
If he can pull that off, it'll be an incredible moment.
00:35:19
Yeah, I don't know.
00:35:20
I don't know if I if I see it either that that he's gonna do it.
00:35:22
Although I mean, you got to think it's it's kind of a cool city.
00:35:25
It's in Chicago, so Kobe wants will make you know, make a trip and be out there.
00:35:28
Uh, okay, let's do it like this.
00:35:30
What Percentages of chances that you give Kobe doing it.
00:35:33
I would say probably being generous here, but I'd say 20 to 25% that he does it.
00:35:39
Oh, man, you're going 20 to 25%.
00:35:41
I'd go even lower.
00:35:42
I'm gonna go Kobe's original jersey number on this 8% 8 a percent chance of of it actually happening.
00:35:49
Yeah, I don't I don't see Kobe doing it because he's like I said, he's kind of stayed out of the spotlight.
00:35:54
He's got other things going on that he's been involved in business, ventures and books and and all that kind of stuff.
00:35:59
In fact, I've got one of his books were here on my bookshelf right now, but but yeah, look, I don't see it happening, but if it does, it'll be very, very cool.
00:36:08
And I say I don't see Dwight winning the dunk contest, But if he gets Kobe out there, I think that's gonna be the moment we remember.
00:36:15
Regardless of who wins or who loses it.
00:36:18
Yeah, we sure we want Kobe Bryant making the law passed or making a pass like that in a dunk contest is not knowing.
00:36:22
Was the pastor right? Yeah, it wouldn't really known for that.
00:36:25
I think maybe the best thing to do is have Kobe shoot and Dwight get the rebound and then dunk.
00:36:31
Yeah, that's that's the way to go about it.
00:36:34
Kobe's gonna pass it to him.
00:36:35
If I could just get the rebound and then and then do what he's gonna do.
00:36:38
Kobe is more suited to be in the three point contest.
00:36:40
Still, at this point that he has to be a pastor.
00:36:42
Dunn.
00:36:43
Let's be honest with that.
00:36:44
So interesting movie like, I agree that we kind of cool just to see it just for nostalgia and kind of for that purpose.
00:36:51
But, I mean, I don't anticipate it happening, but no, I don't either.
00:36:53
But if it does, I will be very, very excited.
00:36:56
I would love to see it.
00:36:58
It happened if if Kobe does get out there and help Dwight Howard in the dunk contest, um, so let's see, I've got a comment here from, uh, I can't even read the user name.
00:37:12
But, says Collison or a buyout and Jeff Green costs nothing.
00:37:16
Derrick Rose won't fit with LeBron.
00:37:18
Jeff Green's a perfect fit with him, uh, talking about their time with the Cavs.
00:37:23
So rather than trade assets jazz just to kind of go back to our trade discussion here, would you rather just hit the bio market? Get Collison if you can find a way to lock him down and then go get like a Jeff Green and just roll forward with the team here and say Okay, Kyle Kuzma, we've added some pieces here.
00:37:39
We've brought bought you a little bit of breathing room developed, hopefully by the playoffs.
00:37:43
He's really hitting his stride and he becomes a consistent contributor.
00:37:46
Is that do you think The preferable way to go rather than shipping out? Kyle Kuzma In order to bring in whatever veteran peace you're gonna you're gonna land.
00:37:55
Yeah, here's my thing.
00:37:56
And I agree with the comment during the sense.
00:37:58
I mean, it was a big, clunky fit with Derrick Rose when he was in Cleveland.
00:38:02
I mean, again, it all depends on his health.
00:38:04
I still think he's a very serviceable on very good and the ape lyrics The problem is, is that you're looking for players who can contribute when LeBron James isn't on the floor examined.
00:38:13
So it's it's that 10 to 12 minutes that he's not playing.
00:38:16
I'm playing 35 right now, but I'm assuming in the playoffs, that'll probably creep towards 38 to 40 depending on the game and the situation.
00:38:23
So you might not need somebody else out there.
00:38:25
Just You will find this, that it has happened a lot in the Lakers game, especially like this.
00:38:30
Where, Yeah, they're clearly better than the Knicks that we're gonna beat the Knicks.
00:38:32
Nobody was doubting that.
00:38:33
The problem is that when the team is out there, when you're going against a team like the Clippers and you're going with your with your second unit, you just can't keep up with Lou Williams and mantra as Harold.
00:38:43
And these guys just don't have enough coming off eventual for me.
00:38:46
I think that it's really you're looking to solve that 10 minutes without LeBron on the floor.
00:38:50
Yeah, and that 10 minutes can make a huge difference in winning and losing, especially in the playoffs.
00:38:54
So it's gonna be important that they do figure that out.
00:38:57
I've got a lot of comments coming in about Robert Covington.
00:38:59
So let's talk about him real quick.
00:39:00
And then also people.
00:39:01
This consistent name that has been popping up has been Spencer Dinwiddie.
00:39:06
People keep asking, Why don't the Lakers just go get Spencer? Didn't he? So I think we need to address those two things before we call it a night.
00:39:11
Let's start with Covington and then we'll jump Thio to dinner with me and we'll dig into that.
00:39:16
So Robert Covington, Just what are your thoughts on the Lakers potentially going after him? That's a rumor that popped up today.
00:39:22
I'm gonna go a little more in depth on a YouTube video later tonight.
00:39:25
But what do you think about the idea of going after Robert Covington? I love I love what he brings.
00:39:30
I think again, he's a guy.
00:39:32
You're not gonna be great in terms of creating a lot for other players.
00:39:36
You know, he's more of ah, you know, you could get some ugly buckets out there.
00:39:38
You could get some threes.
00:39:40
Um, you can Also, he can fill it up and go off for 20 points and and just being a spot up shooter and I'm kind of opening things up that way.
00:39:45
So to me, I really like what he brings.
00:39:48
The problem is the salary, right? I mean, what are you gonna have that's even close to? So what the Timberwolves would would would want to match up with his salary.
00:39:55
You can't look at just going Cousteau. Covington.
00:39:57
That's just not gonna work. No.
00:39:58
Cosmo is making 1.9 million.
00:40:00
Robert Covington is making 11 plus three.
00:40:02
That's a big, big gap to close.
00:40:05
Yeah.
00:40:06
What do you think of coming to? I love it.
00:40:07
I love the fit.
00:40:08
And if you told me right now, salaries don't matter and you can pick one.
00:40:12
Kyle Kyle Kuzma for the rest of the season where Robert Covington for the rest of the season signed me up for some Robert Covington.
00:40:17
And I like Kyle Kuzma.
00:40:19
I really do.
00:40:20
But But I think Covington just is exactly what you need.
00:40:22
He's a versatile defender.
00:40:23
He can take on threes, fours can even spend a little bit of time on twos.
00:40:28
He can shoot from outside.
00:40:30
Uh, he's the kind of guy that they could really use on this team, and so so he'd be the way that I would go.
00:40:36
The question is, how do you make a trade work for him? I mean, you'd have to toss in so many different contracts like Kyle Kuzma, DeMarcus, Cousins, contract Quinn Cook, Troy Daniels.
00:40:47
And at that point, do you hit a 10.
00:40:48
0.
00:40:49
2 with wolves? Just say, Look, we can't just take on all of these guys.
00:40:51
You know, we don't even have roster spots for them.
00:40:53
Then they're just cutting guys like, what are you giving them? Besides whose motto as incentive? I don't know.
00:40:59
I think I think ultimately there's going to be better offers than what the Lakers can offer from Robert Covington.
00:41:04
Because other teams like the Clippers, like the Rockets.
00:41:07
Like the Mavericks, they're all gonna be in the market for that type of player, too.
00:41:11
But if Ron Pilica figures out some way to do it some way to get it done, he would be a wonderful fit again.
00:41:18
You know what we talked about this I know once on the show, um prior, is that Yeah, if Franco can get creative in the sense that he's gonna look at it and say I can ship off Kyle Kuzma and get a first round pick from a team who that is what they're willing to give her.
00:41:32
And then that way you can get creative to try and figure something out.
00:41:35
The salary and we're back in three team deal.
00:41:37
Whatever it is, then, yes, this could be a possibility.
00:41:40
But thank you mentioned.
00:41:41
Most of those teams are gonna have more assets to give up, and it's our tip.
00:41:44
Rules will be like, Hey, sure, Lakers, go ahead and take one of our We want to help me just because you came from Minnesota originally. No.
00:41:51
Yeah, no one's gonna do that.
00:41:52
So I think that's where it gets tough with Robert coming in and the same thing with didn't he didn't win.
00:41:57
He would be a great fit in terms of what he brings in and in terms of the offense he can.
00:42:00
He can use a good defender on ball defender, but the problem is he makes $10 million.
00:42:04
And when what point of the Nets gonna want to want to give him up and and see it is a player option for next season, So I think that's where it makes it difficult, but to me both those guys are wonderful fits on this bus.
00:42:14
Oh, yeah.
00:42:15
Look, I would love to get Spencer, didn't we? But I don't think the Lakers have the assets to get him.
00:42:18
Same thing with Covington.
00:42:19
I think they're too valuable a CZ Players.
00:42:21
I think that's aiming just a little bit too high again, if they can, if they figure out some way to get it done.
00:42:26
Hey, all hail rub blink at that point, right, If he can come figure out a way to get even one of those two guys, that would be incredible rightto land either of them.
00:42:34
But I don't think that's going to happen.
00:42:35
I think more likely you're gonna go down it here and you're going to see your collison.
00:42:39
You're gonna see ah, ee think Derrick Rose is down and hear from what did what he could do.
00:42:44
You're going to see a Jeff Green somebody like that, those types of players rather than Covington or didn't witty or somebody along those lines and and again, that's not to say that that they're not going to try.
00:42:56
But I just think it's gonna be difficult to pull off Yeah, I don't think I don't think I don't think it's It's totally impossible to happen, but it's closer to it not being a reality that it is an actual reality, just based off the assets.
00:43:07
But again, if Lenka can get funky and think of something on the back end that he could do to get, get it, get an extra pick out of someone whether that shipping crews are doing whatever, then there's obviously a small sliver of hope.
00:43:16
But I don't see it for guys like Covington.
00:43:18
And didn't Woody at this point okay? Yeah, for sure.
00:43:21
I've got a comment here from from Rome and raise Trevor no trades.
00:43:25
He threw in a ton of exclamation points just so we would know he was serious.
00:43:29
Okay, this is a solid playoff team. Yeah, it is.
00:43:33
But again, we're not.
00:43:34
I'm not worried about the regular season.
00:43:35
I'm worried about the playoffs about what it looks like when they get there, because there's you can't look at this team and say they have no weaknesses.
00:43:42
They're good. They're set everywhere.
00:43:44
Know they have some actual weaknesses holes they need to fill.
00:43:47
I think the Milwaukee Bucks are better situated as they stand right now to make a playoff run because they have so many different guys contributing in so many different ways.
00:43:56
The Lakers are very top heavy.
00:43:57
I think that they have to look at moves, but I'm not saying that I want to see any of these guys go.
00:44:01
Their chemistry is tremendous, and that's not something that you mess with lightly.
00:44:05
That's not something that you you just go in and change just for fun.
00:44:09
Just to say you made a trade.
00:44:10
No, you have to find the right deal and it's very possible and even likely that the right deal doesn't come along.
00:44:16
But the Lakers, given that they have a championship on the line, potentially they can leave no stone unturned.
00:44:21
You have to go out there, you have to look, and if you can find something that's gonna help you win, you have to give it real consideration.
00:44:27
That's where we're at.
00:44:28
We're not saying ship out.
00:44:29
Everybody, these guys suck.
00:44:30
No, that's not We're saying about these Lakers players.
00:44:32
They're good players, they're good guys.
00:44:35
They've got great chemistry.
00:44:36
If they keep them all, so be it.
00:44:38
But you have to You have to look and see what's out there again.
00:44:43
We've harped on this a lot.
00:44:44
You know, where nobody's losing sight of the fact that they're 35 9 We know that very, very good team nine that the problem is that when they get to the playoffs, some of these weaknesses are going to be exposed a little bit easier.
00:44:57
As you get later and into the rounds, right first round, you probably get away with, you know you're gonna faces 7 80 that you're probably gonna bludgeon in the first round.
00:45:05
Then you dance around, too.
00:45:06
It's gonna get tougher around three.
00:45:07
It's gonna get tougher.
00:45:08
And the way I'm looking at it from the same thing with new Trevor, is that okay? Can you rely on Troy Daniels coming in and hitting some big shots? If they're looking for some three? Can you rely on on on guys like Quinn Cook coming and have a good game? Raj on Mondo? I don't think we can at this point.
00:45:24
And you're right.
00:45:25
This is not a team that average ages is 23 24 25 that they're like, I don't want to mess with this and this might be something bigger going on.
00:45:31
That's gonna be a dynasty for 10 years.
00:45:33
You're looking at this and saying we have a chance to win a championship this year probably should have another chance to win a championship next year and the year after that, and that's it.
00:45:41
So when you have a time and your championship window is now, you have to make the moves in order to try and maximize your opportunity.
00:45:47
I absolutely agree with you 100%.
00:45:49
You've got to do whatever it takes in order to get that done, and that might mean moving some pieces.
00:45:54
Maybe it doesn't right, but we'll see.
00:45:55
But you have to find out.
00:45:56
I have to find out what's out there super important that they do.
00:45:59
Because you know what? Like we've been saying, other teams are not going to stand pat.
00:46:04
Other teams aren't going to just throw their hands up and say, Oh, no, we're good.
00:46:07
We're not gonna change anything.
00:46:08
No, they're looking at the Lakers.
00:46:09
They're saying the Lakers are in first place.
00:46:11
We need to catch up to them that Clippers the Clippers are going to make a trade that's going to happen.
00:46:17
They've got the assets to pull something off.
00:46:18
They're going to do it right.
00:46:20
We just note the Clippers were going to get better.
00:46:22
Okay, The Rockets are going to do everything they can to get better.
00:46:25
Daryl Morey is tremendous of working trades from all kinds of angles.
00:46:29
Right? You've got the Denver Nuggets are going to do what they can to get better.
00:46:32
All of these teams that are chasing the Lakers are going to make moves, are going to atleast do everything they can exhaust every possibility of making a movement.
00:46:40
So the Lakers have to do it as well.
00:46:41
That's why we have to talk about it All right.
00:46:44
Now they're known we'd get off our soapbox here. Jazz.
00:46:47
Let's wrap things up there.
00:46:48
The Lakers do take on the Brooklyn Nets tomorrow night, so we back after that.
00:46:52
One final thoughts.
00:46:53
Just.
00:46:54
The Lakers beat the tough, tough, nearly invincible New York Knicks.
00:47:00
I'm glad we got to do the show because, like I said, my energy levels were going sound.
00:47:05
What's that game? You know what? I think the Lakers will bring it a little bit little bit more tomorrow they're not able to sleepwalk through Brooklyn.
00:47:11
And like I mentioned there on the road, you know, they played on Monday, whether people think it or not.
00:47:15
Yeah, they probably went out yesterday and probably got some stuff done.
00:47:17
They were in Manhattan hanging out, having a good time.
00:47:20
So whatever it is, I'm expecting a better effort from the Lakers tomorrow.
00:47:23
But again, it would be nice to get an easy win here so that you could get some little bit more rest going into three games and four nights, which is always very, very tough to do going into that Philly game on prime time on Saturday.
00:47:33
Yes, definitely.
00:47:34
Rest up Lakers, New York nightlife is overrated.
00:47:37
Don't go out.
00:47:39
Go back, Go to bed, get rest up, Get ready for the Brooklyn.
00:47:41

00:47:41
That's tomorrow because you know that they're gonna be fired up for the Lakers coming into town.
00:47:45
