Hello, everybody.

00:00:03
My name's Trevor Lane from Lakers nation dot com and well, this is the first guys.
00:00:08
The first time we're going into a postgame show talking about the Lakers losing to a below 500 team.
00:00:13
That's right.
00:00:14
The Lakers fall to the Orlando Magic.
00:00:17
A injury depleted Orlando Magic 1 19 toe, 1 18 We're going to talk all about what happened.
00:00:23
Why it happened isn't a big deal or not.
00:00:25
We're going to dive into all of that.
00:00:27
Don't worry, We'll get into it.
00:00:29
I'm sure you guys you're gonna have plenty of comments.
00:00:31

00:00:33

00:00:35
We appreciate you come in.
00:00:36
I'm sure the comments are going to be flowing right in like crazy before we get into it. First.
00:00:40
Don't forget.
00:00:41
Make sure you guys are following us on social media at Lakers Nation on Facebook and Twitter at Lakers Nation official on Instagram.
00:00:48

00:00:56
Joining me tonight is jazz King. Jess.
00:00:59
How you doing, man? Weird. Weird night.
00:01:01
Weird game.
00:01:02
Disappointing, frustrating.
00:01:04
Have lots to get into, I guess.
00:01:06
You know what? I don't want to say I'm disappointed or frustrated with this game.
00:01:11
I was frustrated with aspects of, you know, definitely that the Lakers were doing out there, especially defensively.
00:01:17
No need to be given up 119 points to a team like the Orlando Magic were also missing Laker killer D D J Augustine and Permits and Evan Fournier.
00:01:24
So, um, you know, for me, they were due for they were due for a game like this.
00:01:28
They also had won nine straight.
00:01:30
And you look at, you know, you look at some of the winds that they had obviously playing without LeBron and 80 against O K.
00:01:35
C.
00:01:36
And you know, you've been without you been without a D in the Dallas game without a D in that Cleveland game.
00:01:41
So for me, it was a matter of time before the, you know, that was gonna kind of catch up to me.
00:01:45
I'm gonna look at some of the positives in this game, and there's one negative.
00:01:48
I do wanna have fun with you.
00:01:49
um I don't know how often they're gonna be able to do this.
00:01:52
Seems like it's 1 70 35 games or something.
00:01:54
Quick, quick cooking.
00:01:55
Troy Daniels did their thing.
00:01:56
They were really, really good in this one.
00:01:58
So I thought the bench guys were great.
00:02:00
They scored 68 points combined out of 118.
00:02:03
So, you know, the Lakers can take some solace in that aspect of the law.
00:02:07
Yeah.
00:02:08
I mean, looked on one side.
00:02:09
You can say Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels proved their worth tonight.
00:02:12
Maybe you can expect more out of them moving forward, but the same time you can't rely on.
00:02:16
I mean, Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels had, what, 22 17 points, respectively.
00:02:22
And you still lost right like that.
00:02:24
That shouldn't have happened to like, you shouldn't get that big of a scoring birds from those guys and still find a way to lose a game.
00:02:30
And this was this really was, to me on instance of the Lakers finding a way to lose.
00:02:35
And it seemed like everything just about that could go wrong went wrong.
00:02:39
LeBron missed a dunk off the front of the rim and then KCP a few minutes later did the same thing.
00:02:46
But you know what? There was a lot.
00:02:47
This is why on our last show, I talked about this and why I was tweeting about this.
00:02:51
This was not a game that you could sleepwalk through.
00:02:54
Okay? The Orlando Magic have a history of playing the Lakers very well.
00:02:58
They get up to play the Lakers and they've got enough size.
00:03:01
They've got enough length to give the Lakers some problems.
00:03:03
So if you came into this game thinking it was gonna be an easy W, the Lakers were gonna be in trouble.
00:03:08
And then on top of that and this was something we didn't mention on the last show.
00:03:12
It's a get out of town game.
00:03:13
Those air notorious across the MBA for being trapped games for being games where players start looking ahead to the road trip.
00:03:20
The Lakers do go on a long road trip now from here, and you just you tend to see a letdown in these games.
00:03:26
And so you had both of those things that play.
00:03:28
You had an Orlando Magic team that has this history of playing above way above their heads against the Lakers.
00:03:33
I mean, Wesley, one do put up a career high career high in 19 points here in this one.
00:03:39
You had guys playing over their head, and then you met a Lakers team that looked lethargic and looked like they were thinking about getting out of town and all of those things combined to create.
00:03:47
Well, what ended up being a one point loss? Yeah.
00:03:50
I mean, I'm with you on that.
00:03:51
I don't want I don't want to sit here and say these guys maybe look, look past Orlando.
00:03:55
I don't think that they did.
00:03:56
I also think that this is one of those games that everything that could go wrong for the Lakers didn't factor all wrong.
00:04:01
And they still only lost by a single point.
00:04:03
Obviously mean, that late cooked three there, that made it a little bit closer than it was at four.
00:04:06
But, um, you know, you're looking at this right now.
00:04:09
Even some of their like that loss against Denver on December 22nd.
00:04:12
Without LeBron, that game was one.
00:04:14
We're okay.
00:04:15
You know what? You could give that one away. No problem.
00:04:17
But I would say the last time I looked back at this was that lost against Dallas in the beginning of December, where they played at home and it was a Sunday afternoon game and everything just was like, ****, it doesn't matter what they're gonna do They don't have a chance to win this get even.
00:04:29
And I felt like that Appoints.
00:04:30
You know, once the Lakers made that run at halftime and kind of got it down to seven and then came out in the third quarter, I thought, OK, they're going to take over.
00:04:37
But defensively, they were just a lot of holes I didn't like For the first time all season.
00:04:41
I didn't like the fact that Frank Vogel went with Um not Not that what you want with what I'm saying.
00:04:45
I didn't like what Vogel did at the end by going with JaVale McGee in the lineup over Dwight Howard.
00:04:50
I think Dwight Howard is a better overall team defender than the Village feels a really good shot blocker.
00:04:55
But I think Dwight a little bit moves a little bit better laterally maybe would be able to contest some of those shots better and that dumb mistake that Dwight that devil made on that Aaron Gordon dunk like what the hell do you do it, man? Don't even bother telling the guy.
00:05:06
You know what? If you just let him go and have the dunk and that that extra point made a difference in the game, you know? So for me, it was just one of those games where a lot of things didn't didn't go right.
00:05:14
But again, the bench guys, I don't know how often our consistent that could be doing this.
00:05:19
Where you're going to get 22 17 from Daddy or 22 from Cook, 17 from Daniel, 17 from K C.
00:05:24
T.
00:05:25
On one night.
00:05:26
Like you said.
00:05:27
Still lose eso eso for me.
00:05:28
I'm looking at him.
00:05:29
Just chalk this one up as a bad loss.
00:05:30
The crummy part about this loss is it comes before they go on the on the long trip.
00:05:34
So hopefully that doesn't bleed into the Houston Boston Games.
00:05:37
The Nixon should spank, and then you go Brooklyn and Philadelphia to wrap up the road area.
00:05:41
Yeah.
00:05:42
I mean, you gotta hope that I would assume that they'll be more focused.
00:05:44
They just weren't sharp.
00:05:46
They weren't sharp in this game and they weren't sharp from the get go.
00:05:49
You could see it.
00:05:50
Orlando was fired up, was bouncing around.
00:05:51
And I'll tell you what, It's kind of a double whammy, and we've been in this situation all season.
00:05:55
For some reason, we just saw it with the cabs.
00:05:58
For some reason, teams come into L.
00:06:00
A.
00:06:01
They get the Lakers the first night and the Clippers back.
00:06:04
And so now the Orlando just just blew out their reserves, gave everything to win this game against the Lakers.
00:06:10
They're gonna be exhausted tomorrow night, playing the Clippers.
00:06:12
So the Clippers are probably going to get uneasy.
00:06:14
Wind against the island are the Orlando Magic.
00:06:17
While the Lakers had play this Magic team, that was all fired up, We also saw the other phenomenon that I've been talking about the last few weeks that sometimes when a team loses, somebody loses somebody that's important.
00:06:27
You see a random role player just blow up because everybody is that much sharper.
00:06:32
We saw it.
00:06:33
I mean, the Lakers role players just did it the other night against Okay, see, you have these random performances where over the long haul, losing that player that really good piece, whether their star or all star or whatever will hurt you.
00:06:45
But in the short term, role players can step up.
00:06:48
And we saw that.
00:06:49
No, no, Evan Fournier never google.
00:06:51
Ah, he was He was gone tonight.
00:06:54
Of course, the magic are missing Jonathan Isaac, But they've been that way for a few weeks now.
00:06:58
D.
00:06:59
J. Augustine, who has a history of lighting up the Lakers, was out.
00:07:01
Michael Carter Williams was out.
00:07:02
So they were missing pretty much all their point guards.
00:07:04
Except for Marchal folds.
00:07:05
Um, so they were the magic kind of came together and credit to them, you know, they play played hard and everything, but the Lakers just didn't anticipate that.
00:07:15
And it seemed like they were kind of, you know, they had their bags packed and they're ready to get out of town.
00:07:19
And unfortunately, this is what happens when you do that in the N B A.
00:07:23
Well, I would say one guy who I was looking to again step up tonight and we've talked about him a lot this season.
00:07:28
I know.
00:07:29
We're gonna get some comments on it.
00:07:30
Well oh, they're flying already.
00:07:31
Just what the hell was Kyle Kuzma doing 27 minutes four points to attend shooting? You did have seven times.
00:07:37
I mean, that's pretty good.
00:07:38
Only two turnovers.
00:07:39
But again, for me, this is a game where okay, LeBron, let's be real, man.
00:07:42
I mean, you look around the NBA's James Harden is, to me the most prolific scorer, obviously in the league.
00:07:47
And he has off nights, too.
00:07:49
So you can't expect LeBron to be carrying the load in scoring 30 35 a night.
00:07:52
You need another guy to step up in the starting lineup, because again, you look at it.
00:07:56
The all the bench guys were plus tonight, all the all the starters, we're minus guys.
00:08:00
And how often do we see that this year? You know what I mean.
00:08:02
It's always been okay.
00:08:03
The starters are gonna get a bit of a lead in there.
00:08:05
Playing well on the bench will come in and kind of give it up for me.
00:08:08
I mean, again, I'm disappointed with Cruz's effort and this one.
00:08:11
I was disappointed with his effort last game as well, even though it was an easy win against against a cab.
00:08:16
So again, you know It's gonna be interesting what happens between now and February 6.
00:08:19
And if they look at him and say, Is this guy gonna be a long term fitting? Do we want him to be our third option? Really? Come.
00:08:25
Time for the playoffs? Yeah.
00:08:26
This is the big the big question mark.
00:08:27
Right now, Can you get Koosman to be consistent because you see him, He'll he'll go drop 36 points in a big game and then they'll have performances like he has these last few.
00:08:36
This was this was definitely a bad performance from him.
00:08:39
And I want to get into why in just a second I've got something Tina demon from Facebook saying that I'm acting like D.
00:08:46
J.
00:08:47
Augustine and ah and Fornier are stars.
00:08:50
Know what I'm saying is the role they filled for the magic not having those pieces and other players were going to step up and do things they're not used to doing because they weren't gonna have the ball handling that you get from Augustine as well as the scoring and shooting that you get from porn.
00:09:03
You know, they're not all star caliber players, although D J.
00:09:06
Augustine is pretty close to an All Star whenever he plays the Lakers.
00:09:09
He he bought out against the Lakers.
00:09:11
We talked about his stats when he plays the Lakers last time.
00:09:14
Um, the other thing that I want to get into is from YouTube.
00:09:18
Cost 41 is asking for an Alex Caruso update.
00:09:21
So Caruso, after taking that that shot from MME.
00:09:24
Obama, I wasn't intentional that Obama was given looking at him.
00:09:28
It was just accidental.
00:09:29
Caught an elbow and Crusoe went back to the locker room.
00:09:32
They did the concussion test on him, and it was inconclusive.
00:09:35
And that's where we're at right now.
00:09:36
And so if it's inconclusive, they have to have to assume maybe there's something going on out there going on there.
00:09:42
Can't put him back in the game.
00:09:43
So that's why we didn't see more Alex Caruso.
00:09:45
And that's why Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels got opportunities that we probably wouldn't have seen otherwise.
00:09:50
So there was no Alex Caruso for most of the game, and no Russian Rondo.
00:09:53
And so that's That's what you saw going on there.
00:09:55
We'll wait and see what they say about Caruso, but again, inconclusive.
00:09:58
At this point, we don't know if he'll be stuck in concussion protocol or not, but to get back to Cal Koosman.
00:10:05
Just wait kind of predicted this.
00:10:07
We talked about this issue.
00:10:09
We talked about how Vucevic's can pull the Lakers big away for the basket.
00:10:13
And if Anthony Davis is out there, that's not a big deal, because the guy cutting over to stop the drive to the rim is a D and he can block shots.
00:10:21
Probably just a CZ.
00:10:22
Well, as Dwight and Javale can Jo White make? Howard can ed when you that guy is suddenly Kyle Kuzma, who's 68 Slight frame doesn't have the wingspan.
00:10:34
He's not a shop locker.
00:10:36
Well, you saw what happened.
00:10:37
He got absolutely eaten up on the defensive end, and then his offense wasn't making up for it.
00:10:42
On the night Kyle Kuzma finished two of 10 shooting, Oh, of two from 35 boards.
00:10:47
He did pick up seven sets assists, and part of that was from handling the ball in pick and roll situations, but four points.
00:10:54
Look, if you're Rob Pelinka, you've got to be kind of pulling your hair out a little bit because what you do with him.
00:10:59
Do you just hope? Hope that he puts it together hope that eventually everything clicks.
00:11:04
And by playoff time, maybe he can give you consistent performances.
00:11:08
Or do you start looking Maura at the trade? You know, I'm not going to say one game is going to completely change the opinion on it or anything like that, but it just goes to show what the big question is around.
00:11:19
Cosmo. That's consistency.
00:11:21
Well, here's the thing that you mentioned.
00:11:22
That, of course, is one game isn't gonna change narrative.
00:11:24
LeBron James and come out on Saturday have four points and four assists in two rebounds.
00:11:29
It doesn't change the fact that he's one of the top two or three players in the N B A.
00:11:33
For a guy like Kyle Kuzma, I think what change in this is the situation, right? We're looking at it and saying, OK, no Anthony Davis.
00:11:38
With last four games, Hey, balled out a couple of those times, you know, the O.
00:11:42
K C game, the Dallas game, and then crappy the last couple.
00:11:46
Let's just call it what it is.
00:11:47
He hasn't been very good and and so I think when they're looking at it and saying, because again, the Lakers ain't gonna rely on Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels to be scoring 17 and 22 points.
00:11:54
It's not gonna happen when they do do it. Great.
00:11:57
You know what I mean? You look at Dwight Howard, you're hoping that he can come in and give you 678 points and 8 to 10 rebounds every night when he does that.
00:12:04
Great.
00:12:05
If he has a little bit more.
00:12:06
Even better for the squad.
00:12:07
When I'm looking at it and saying Okay, Kyle Kuzma they need somebody who could be a reliable third option.
00:12:12
1/3 score.
00:12:13
Okay, you look at the teams are gonna have to play against the playoffs.
00:12:15
The Clippers, they got they got guys like William I.
00:12:19
Leonard and Paul, George Clooney.
00:12:20
Even Mantra zero.
00:12:22
He's capable of scoring that that many points in on any given night when you're looking around against the upper echelon teams, I don't really know who else the Who else the Lakers have that can do that consistently.
00:12:32
And cooze is the guy only guy with the potential to do that right? You look at the Mavericks, you got joke.
00:12:36
It's you got Jamal Murray.
00:12:37
Go.
00:12:38
Well, Bart, you got these guys are all capable and consistent scorers.
00:12:40
So for me, I think if if if police was looking at it now and saying We're championship squad and you talked about this to the window is now, right now, there's no Let's build this for next year that it wasn't like last season where Let's see what happens with the young guys.
00:12:54
You got two of the best players in the NBA.
00:12:55
You gotta go for it.
00:12:57
And so when I'm looking at Cruz's consistency, I think it is time t maybe look at it again.
00:13:01
If you're upgrading and you know you're getting a better player and you can do that through a creative trade, I think now is the time you have got to start looking at it.
00:13:07
What about you? Well, that's just said.
00:13:09
I feel like it's very questionable.
00:13:11
Whether that trade is is there.
00:13:12
Whether that trade exists, that that is logistically possible to happen and that another team is willing to do, I think it's gonna be hard to find that peace while being able to justify okay, this player is is head and shoulders better than Kuzma right now, toe where it's worth giving up.
00:13:30
Whatever Koosman looks like 34 years from now, when he is an established player and he's and he knows exactly how to get his shots and all that kind of stuff when he is his work through all of his issues that Kyle Cruise was gonna be a pretty good player and so you've got to get something back that is going to make it worth your while to trade him in addition to something that can logistically work that can work under the under the c b A And so that's gonna be the challenge.
00:13:54
I don't know that that trade exists, but I think the public has gotta be listening and this game shows why.
00:13:58
Anyway, look, part of it is Koosman needs guys creating for him.
00:14:03
They have been giving him the ball in screen roll situations of letting him handle it a little bit more, so that's great, right? But but you could see where there wasn't another guard out there.
00:14:12
Caruso's out, Rondo's out.
00:14:15
The Lakers have always kind of been losing our missing that secondary option as a as a ball.
00:14:20
Hitler Quinn Cook's not that guy.
00:14:22
Troy Daniels certainly isn't that guy.
00:14:24
So he kind of got lost in the shuffle in this game.
00:14:26
But then, at the same time, even when he was creating, he wasn't scoring.
00:14:29
And so look at the last two games.
00:14:31
Look, I mean, Kyle Kuzma gets okay.
00:14:33
See? Put up 36 points the game before that against Alice.
00:14:36
He put up 26 the last two games.
00:14:38
He's put up 15 points total total.
00:14:42
Hey, like you, the wood, the blowup games, Consejo you.
00:14:45
But at the same time, the complete bust games will will hurt you.
00:14:49
And in the playoffs, give me the guy that you confined.
00:14:51
That's consistent.
00:14:52
I just don't know if that guy's out there and available via trade for them, for them to find that player.
00:14:58
Well, you know, you mentioned that were before that point man you're talking about, Okay, let's see if they can.
00:15:02
Let's see if we know when Cruz but does figure it out.
00:15:06
I don't know how long you can keep saying that for you know what I mean.
00:15:08
It's not like he's, uh, you know, you know, he's only 24.
00:15:10
He's not he's not like he's 27.
00:15:12
28 were like hearted.
00:15:13
He is what he is.
00:15:14
But I just think with his consistency issues, But we saw a bit of last season two.
00:15:18
I just don't think he's answer now.
00:15:20
Would he had this pressure if Boogie Cousins was in the lineup? No, he wouldn't write.
00:15:23
It would be like Book of ****ies, our third guy and who's give us A, You know, a game.
00:15:27
Every six or seven were capable of scoring 20 and we'll be all right.
00:15:30
And right now they need him to be much more consistent than he is.
00:15:33
And they're especially again.
00:15:34
We're looking at a team that's on a 66 win pace.
00:15:37
We're not looking at what they're gonna do in March and April.
00:15:39
What the what the records gonna be we're looking at? Are they gonna be able to beat the top end contenders in a seven game series? Now you do.
00:15:45
You **** well they have the capability of with LeBron and 80.
00:15:48
But in two or three of those games in a seven game series, you're gonna need 1/3 guy to step up and intel.
00:15:52
Kyle Kuzma could do that consistently.
00:15:54
I don't see him being the answer going into the playoffs.
00:15:57
Yeah, well, we'll see what he can do.
00:15:59
Look, I mean, I wouldn't say it's set in stone that he can't be that their guy.
00:16:03
I think he can be that third guy.
00:16:05
Just the situation has to be exactly right for him at this moment.
00:16:08
And you know what I mean? Look, a lot of people have said that Karl Kruse was not effective, affected by the trade rumors.
00:16:15
He's the guy who just plays through it.
00:16:17
But, I mean, he's looked kind of shaky.
00:16:19
Is a lot of these last couple outings, so I don't know.
00:16:21
Maybe that's a factor or something.
00:16:23
Something to, ah, consider there.
00:16:26
I will say that, Um, some people saying that when when Caruso went out, when Captain America went out, it all went down from there.
00:16:33
Yeah, look, we can't forget that he was out as well.
00:16:35
That certainly mattered, and, you know, no Anthony Davis matters, too.
00:16:38
But again, the Magic.
00:16:41
We're missing players as well, but the Lakers still shouldn't have lost this game, But that's not, but we still have to mention that the Lakers did have guys out.
00:16:51
Um, look into some of the comments.
00:16:52
A lot of people weren't thrilled here with the, uh, with the closing line up, and you would mention that you thought Dwight should have been in there.
00:17:00
Is there? Was there anything else that you notice about that closing lineup that you thought should have been? Should have different.
00:17:05
Like, did Vogel put in a bad line up? Do you think? Was that Was that a vocal error? I don't I don't know.
00:17:11
Who else? I mean, who knows? You could really go with it at that point yet.
00:17:14
I'll be honest with you.
00:17:15
I think you know one thing that may be hurt.
00:17:17
The Lakers at the end, it was not being able to call a call a time out and get a defensive switch.
00:17:21
That's what I would have liked to have seen, you know, again, he's not a huge difference maker in terms of every night.
00:17:26
But Jared Dudley had some great plays out there today on the defensive end, and you needed to stop.
00:17:31
At that point, they had to get their best defensive players out there, so I would have went with something different again the issue today wasn't the offense other than with Maybe LeBron and coos like LeBron still had 19 points.
00:17:40
And let's not forget he had 19 assists.
00:17:42
Two.
00:17:43
So he's responsible for at least 57 points, depending on the threes were involved in that.
00:17:47
And you look at you.
00:17:48
Look at the defense. Yeah.
00:17:50
Now, that's where I think, Mrs Caruso, what was a big loss? He's a very good defender, and I don't think they would have looked like, you know, the defense would have been like a sieve if if they had him out there on DNA making Orlando look like they're the Harlem Globetrotters at a certain a certain point.
00:18:02
But yeah.
00:18:04
You know, again, this is the first time I would say that Frank was coaching didn't help the team at the end.
00:18:08
I also don't want to put it all on that, because again, he was shorthanded.
00:18:11
You know, you're playing without rage on Rondo.
00:18:14
You're playing with Alex Cruz over an extended period, so I'm not gonna give him all the blame for that.
00:18:18
But I wouldn't like this at least seemed white in there Instead of development.
00:18:21
I will say that I thought that at the end of the first half, Vogel made a really smart move, and that was, you know, the game script are the scripts that he had laid out before the game.
00:18:29
Going into it, The plan would have been to finish the quarter hour half out.
00:18:32
With Avery Bradley in the lineup, the Lakers were down and he knew he had to take a chance.
00:18:37
Troy Daniels is not the defender.
00:18:39
Avery Bradley is, but he knew that he needed scoring.
00:18:41
And so he put in Troy Daniels to finish it out, and Troy Daniels had six points in in like 90 seconds, right, and it brought the Lakers right back into the game.
00:18:50
That was a smart move.
00:18:51
That was the kind of on the fly move where he deviated from what the typical game plan would be.
00:18:55
And he made an adjustment.
00:18:57
Maybe the adjustment that he made it the end of the game didn't work.
00:18:59
Maybe he saw something that he liked out of JaVale.
00:19:01
That just didn't work out.
00:19:03
But bottom line, I think most times probably what, eight times out of 10 when Vogel makes an adjustment, it works, and I think that's all you can ask for from your coach.
00:19:11
You're not gonna expect in about 1000 there's gonna be times where he makes us up, and it just doesn't work out for whatever reason.
00:19:17
And, uh, and that's gonna happen from time to time.
00:19:19
But if they're successful most of the time, then you're probably OK with it, just like I mean, look like, Yes, it was frustrating to see the Lakers lose this game.
00:19:27
But looking at what they've done this season, you can't be that mad about it.
00:19:32
Like, this is the first game they've lost to a below 500 team.
00:19:35
And we're just now hitting the midway point of the season for 41 games in.
00:19:40
And they've only lost once to a bloke.
00:19:42
That that's ridiculous.
00:19:44
That's incredible, right? So sometimes we have to put a little perspective on it before we, you know, freak out over over one game, right? Well, they were gonna loot.
00:19:53
They were gonna lose one of these games eventually.
00:19:55
And even then I mean, they lost fight again.
00:19:58
Escape Bayless.
00:19:59
Basic point and their 22 1 against teams that are below five wondered which is a hell of a record.
00:20:03
That means you're taking care of business when they're supposed to take care of business.
00:20:07
And I agree with you.
00:20:08
I'm not gonna sit here and brag on Frank Vogel.
00:20:09
I just think that he maybe could have done things a little bit differently in order to keep the team in the game, are maybe give him a little bit more of a chance to win.
00:20:17
But again, you look at what he's done last four games without without without a D in the lineup and even giving the guys inspired enough to get that win against.
00:20:25
Okay, See, that was Hello.
00:20:27
Impressive.
00:20:28
You know, I mean, okay, sees no teeth, no slouch anymore either.
00:20:29
And they're they're looking pretty good, too.
00:20:31
So I'm not gonna sit here and write on him and say, Oh, my God.
00:20:34
What is he doing again? He's coaching a team that sitting at 33 8 sitting on top of the Western Conference.
00:20:39
You know what I mean? Second best in the N B.
00:20:41
A.
00:20:42
So, uh, you know, I'm not gonna write him.
00:20:43
I just think they could have made some some bad, different decisions, better decisions at the end, and then they'll go back in the look of those things and then they'll improve, right? I'm sure Vogel is that that type, right? He's gonna go back, and he's gonna look and say, Oh, maybe I should have gone with this lineup.
00:20:56
And next time he'll make a different decision, right? Like that's you know, that's growing.
00:21:01
At least it's not Luke Walton.
00:21:03
You know E Okay, I'm just gonna stand on the sideline and watch you guys play, not make any changes, their differences to it.
00:21:08
I'm just gonna let it go with the game.
00:21:10
Get out.
00:21:11
And so I love the fact Frank Vogel's been very open and and and and different and changing and fluid with his line of combinations compared to what the hell we saw last year with Luke.
00:21:19
Jess, I just figured it out.
00:21:22
This This didn't occur to me before now, but the comment just came in.
00:21:26
No, Chris Masters, No win for the Lakers.
00:21:29
This is Yeah.
00:21:32
It is about getting back in Germany.
00:21:33
That's what we're doing.
00:21:35
I should have known.
00:21:36
We should have.
00:21:37
We should have known this.
00:21:38
No Christmas, Chris Masters.
00:21:40
Come on, man.
00:21:42
No, excuses, man.
00:21:43
What is it? It's like 6 15 There's some like that.
00:21:45
7 15 in the morning in Germany right now.
00:21:47
Get him.
00:21:48
We'll get him on the show.
00:21:49
There's no way you should be resting after taking a response.
00:21:50
Continents light like that.
00:21:51
Come on, Excusable.
00:21:53
You watches all the shows when he watches.
00:21:56
We gotta realize that.
00:21:57
Chris. You know what? Cut the rest in crops or get back.
00:21:59
We need you here on Lake.
00:22:00
Come on, man.
00:22:01
Jeez, Take one for the team and mother and speaking with Jax, we're gonna give you some credit because you pulled off the reverse jinx of all reverse jinx is right.
00:22:10
We're texting back and forth, everybody and and jazz is it says Troy Daniels is playing well, but Quinn cook steaks.
00:22:17
That's the thing that I got a CZ that came in.
00:22:21
Like, as it pops up.
00:22:22
Boom three from Quinn.
00:22:23
Cook comes down the next play, hits a two, comes down and gets another seven points in, Like what, 40 seconds from Quinn Cook.
00:22:31
As soon as jazz sent that text, it was a great reverse jinx to jazz.
00:22:37
Get as much as we're gonna blame Chris Masters for the Lakers.
00:22:40
Lost night.
00:22:41
Let's give you credit for Quinn Cook's play with that very timely reverse jinx. Nice job.
00:22:47
You know what? Now that you mention it, I'm gonna text you on Saturday about 15 minutes into into the game or 9 15 minutes. Real time.
00:22:54
Not much, actually, That Falco's sucks, and I hope you'll go up and score.
00:22:57
You can tell I'm standing right next to you.
00:23:02
I'll text it to you anyway.
00:23:03
All right.
00:23:04
All right.
00:23:05
I like it.
00:23:06
I like it.
00:23:07
We will reverse jinx the Lakers just for for everybody out.
00:23:11
Uh, let's see here.
00:23:12
Oh, man.
00:23:13
Adam Wilcox from Facebook.
00:23:15
He's trying to fire everybody up.
00:23:16
He said Quinn, cook over Alex Caruso.
00:23:20
No, Stop.
00:23:22
It was a good game, bro.
00:23:23
Quinn Coat, though This is what I was really high on Quinn Cook last summer.
00:23:27
This is the type of performance that I was thinking of.
00:23:29
Not that I would expect it to put up 22 every night, but just being that kind of dynamic scorer that can that can hit those pull up jumpers off the bounce and is pretty deadly from deep.
00:23:37
He did those things tonight and so that was.
00:23:40
That was really great to see, and hopefully that's something that they can continue going moving forward.
00:23:45
I'm getting a lot of comments in here, and I know where he talked about Cosmo.
00:23:48
But I'm getting a lot of comments in here about about Kyle Cruise, but not necessarily play on the floor.
00:23:54
But his demeanor People are in the in our chat here are taking notice of Calcutta's misdemeanor on the floor, and they feel like he's not putting an effort, maybe sulking a little bit.
00:24:04
Are you noticing that a Zara's body language goes anything that you're concerned about from that side of things with Kyle Kuzma? Well, you look at it, look at his under energy level before LeBron came a couple seasons ago and when he was hidden and B I and Alonso kind of having fun out there.
00:24:20
And then they played really well down the stretch and he was more happy but lucky, smiling a lot more, bouncing a lot more.
00:24:25
I saw that from him when he first came back this season, but I wonder how much how much truth there was to the whole thing between, you know, the Cosmos trainer and LeBron.
00:24:32
And if there was something going on back there, because let's be really write a cz much as we think that we say that Rob blink of my title is running the team and running the operation.
00:24:40
LeBron James is a huge say who? The team is picking up their trading.
00:24:43
And Bullington would tell you that they flat out admitted that they went to LeBron.
00:24:48
They went to a d link was texting them.
00:24:50
What do you think about this guy? What do you think about that guy? Yeah, there's no question on them.
00:24:54
Yeah, So I mean, if something gets back to Cruz that hey, you know what? LeBron's kind of signed off on the fact that, yeah, you know what? If we could get rid of coups and getting Bogdanovich in here, try and make it happen.
00:25:03
So we don't know what's happening behind closed again.
00:25:06
That's just being hypothetical.
00:25:07
I'm not saying that that's anything I burned or anything, but, um, you know, for me, the way I'm looking at it is if his demeanor is not right, his energy and his attitude's not right.
00:25:15
He has to accept the fact that.
00:25:16
I think you know what? He was a kind of spoiled.
00:25:18
Let's call it what it is because last season going into the year, everybody was saying, Oh, man, cause my has so much potential He's gonna look great with LeBron And he made almost knew his thought was set.
00:25:28
And ever since those trade rumors originally started with New Orleans last season during the year where we saw that okay, it could be it could be Lonzo. It could be B.
00:25:36
I could be cooze.
00:25:37
All those guys, their games fell off a cliff.
00:25:39
Obviously, you know Brandon Ingram and I'm getting hurt after used things decent.
00:25:42
But, um, you know, So I wonder if since then, maybe Koosman doesn't have the mental toughness to be ableto handle being on a championship team like this again.
00:25:50
I'm not saying I know this for anything.
00:25:51
I'm just mentioned the fact that I do agree his demeanor and his energy has been way lower and not as upbeat and not as happy, basically, as as we've seen him be previously on during a stint with the Lakers.
00:26:01
Well, all of his all of his peers moved away, right? I mean, they They all got, got shipped out to New Orleans, all the guys that that he would really relate to on the team.
00:26:09
So maybe there's there's that element of it to where it's now a bunch of veterans.
00:26:13
The only guy that's really his ages is Alex Caruso.
00:26:16
Yeah, that's that's about it, right? So we need to Easter busy saving the world when he's not playing basketball.
00:26:22
Exactly.
00:26:23
Exactly.
00:26:24
S Oh, yeah, like you could understand where it might be a little bit frustrating for Cruz. Move it.
00:26:30
But again, it's You don't want to see that from him on the floor.
00:26:33
You don't want to see kind of that kind of body language.
00:26:35
But again, like early in the season, we were getting questions every single night about why does Anthony Davis look unhappy? Sometimes we can misread people, right? I mean, there's, you know, that I think that's a factor here, too.
00:26:47
We don't want to jump to conclusions.
00:26:49
And a sumo pal, Cruz was unhappy.
00:26:51
He looks like he's so you know, maybe he just he's mad at himself for not shooting what, like it could be as simple as that.
00:26:56
That's that's certainly possible Yep.
00:27:01
Let me see here.
00:27:03
Uh, there's a lot of comments coming in coming in.
00:27:06
People saying that Koosman needs to play with passion if he wants to stay.
00:27:10
A lot of Koosman talk in general here tonight.
00:27:15
Uh, when you get into a few of the questions, a lot of people commented that Kosmas hair is to blame, which I suppose that's possible, too.
00:27:26
Listen, Shadi, look, the slim shady look.
00:27:29
Okay, so here's Here's another question.
00:27:31
So coming in from Periscope, we've got Rob's.
00:27:34
DMX is Derrick Rose can be a good option, but it's another small guard.
00:27:38
Derrick Rose had a real nice night tonight.
00:27:39
Had 22 points for the Pistons as the Pistons beat the Boston Celtics that we can take some solace in that.
00:27:45
Ah, but what do you know where we sit in on the Derrick Rose idea? Like, if you could put together a package and it takes Con Koosman to get it done in order to get Derrick Rose, are you making that move? Well, that's a tough.
00:27:58
That actually is a tough call for me when I look at some of the Bogdanovich.
00:28:02
I like that trade because Bogdanovich better three point shooter and you could score.
00:28:05
And he's a defender and he's younger.
00:28:06
He's 27.
00:28:07
Yeah, you look at you.
00:28:09
Look at you.
00:28:10
Look at Derrick Rose.
00:28:11
He's been fantastic for what he is right now.
00:28:13
This late in his career, playing with playing with the pistol will be The Pistons are not a very good team.
00:28:17
But, uh, when you look at that again, I think you have to look at what your what? Your goal is right.
00:28:22
And for Lenka, you know you have LeBron.
00:28:24
You know you have 80 this year.
00:28:26
LeBron's gonna turn 36 next season.
00:28:28
But you still know you have Anthony Davis as a pillar to build around going forward.
00:28:32
You know, anybody who thinks I'm not gonna resign, it's crazy, but he is gonna resign, and then I'm looking at it if you're looking, if you're outlook on this team is we gotta win a championship run out on DDE.
00:28:42
That was the option that you had to take.
00:28:43
I would do it to me right now.
00:28:45
Who's my is gonna be a guy who could put up 18 a Game 19 a game on a team that goes 30 and 52.
00:28:51
And so, you know, if you're looking at trying to win a championship, Derrick Rose can play one good game.
00:28:55
A Siri's where he goes off for 25.
00:28:57
And that's the game you needed to get the job done, so I I would lean toward I'm almost like 50 to 48.
00:29:03
Yes, what about you? I'm leaning more on the no sight on that just because of the age factory and again, the injury risk it all that.
00:29:10
I mean, look, there's like there are many good years.
00:29:13
Does he have left? And I'm compared to you.
00:29:14
Like we've said, I mean Kyle Kuzma.
00:29:16
If the Lakers decided he's the perfect fit and he gets everything going, he could spend the next 10 years in the jungle, right? Like that's that's the kind of career he can have.
00:29:24
So I'm not ready to give up everything that cooze make an offer from here on out in exchange for one season of Derrick Rose, especially if there's an option out there like Collison now if they if they know that Collison isn't coming from and I'm not saying that I'm just hoping that they'll have an inkling of what causes doing before the trade deadline comes.
00:29:43
But if they know he's not coming, then I think that puts them under a little bit more pressure to find a trade for a Derrick Rose type player.
00:29:50
A. D. J. Augustine a Jeff Teague.
00:29:52
Somebody like that.
00:29:53
But if you know you're getting Collison, then I think it changes the equation.
00:29:59
And then I think you I think it it becomes a definite no if you know that you're going to get Darren Collison coming in without having to trade away any assets.
00:30:07
So do you think that if they bring in Collison that that limits that basically, like eliminates cruises the trade option, that chip in his neck with Cruz? No, no.
00:30:16
I think that if the right move comes along, they would still trade him.
00:30:19
I think they would.
00:30:20
But I think I would they would be looking somewhere else.
00:30:22
I'm not saying, you know, like, if Collison is a no, then you probably have to prioritize finding another point guard.
00:30:28
But if Collison is a yes, then you're on the trade market looking for another wing defender.
00:30:33
You're looking for a swing man.
00:30:34
Maybe you look at like a Robert Covington and making a move worked there, Right? You're just You're You wouldn't necessarily write off trading Koosman just okay.
00:30:41
We're clearly not trading him.
00:30:42
We're not trading anybody.
00:30:43
You would just shift your target.
00:30:46
Okay? Okay.
00:30:47
Yeah.
00:30:48
I mean, I look at it that way, too.
00:30:49
I mean, again, if there's a perfect world that can find a way to get both Collison and Andre Iguodala and figure that I think will be it will be in great shape.
00:30:55
But again, to me, I don't know if they're looking.
00:30:57
If they're hoping that Cruz is gonna be the answer as the third scoring option, I just think at this point of the season, we've seen enough to know that he ain't gonna do that consistently.
00:31:05
So if they're looking to boost that, they've got to find a way to move him in and kind of, you know, improve on that on that spot in their in their lineup.
00:31:13
Yeah. Yeah, I think that's Ah, that's true.
00:31:15
I think that at this point, we could say it's probably not gonna happen consistently for Kuzma e.
00:31:20
I mean, look, that's not definite.
00:31:22
Not set in stone But right now, that's the That's what we've seen so far.
00:31:26
Ryan Pass School from from YouTube said, Hey, travel, would you take Cook and Daniel's over? Cosma and Rondo? I mean, look tonight, Yes, but most nights I'd say no.
00:31:40
And you guys know how I feel about about Rondo and his lack of shooting.
00:31:44
But also, I think Cosmo and Rondo is the more talented duo compared to Cook and Daniel Kucan.
00:31:49
Daniels can get hot for a game, but they can also shoot you out of games.
00:31:52
And they're gonna provide not much on the defensive.
00:31:54
And not that Rondo and Koosman provided Ton there.
00:31:56
But I think they actually probably provide a little bit more just because I think Who's McCann? Impact the game defensively a little bit, Uh, so, yeah, look.
00:32:04
And that's not again nothing against cooker Daniels.
00:32:06
But I just I think Koosman and Rondo has the higher ceiling.
00:32:09
Well, we talk about this lunch.
00:32:11
I think that's what people need to, you know, start to understand what we're saying.
00:32:14
We're not saying from the point that none of these guys can play were saying they can't do it consistently, which is very very difficult to do in the MBA, and so to me, when you're mentioning those two Kumble's, it's like who's been more consistent, that combo of even though they haven't been that great.
00:32:25
Coups in and Rondo are better N b A players and and better rotational players than than Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels, who again once every 30 games are gonna be capable of scoring 15 16 points like they did tonight, right? Right.
00:32:37
You know what? Just I think you made a great point earlier in the show when you mentioned that, uh, that if DeMarcus Cousins was healthy, charisma would look very, very different because he wouldn't be relied on to be that third score like you look in a game like tonight's and I meant to get into this.
00:32:50
You look at a game like tonight's and you need somebody who can go and put the ball in the basket.
00:32:55
They could have loved the ball into it.
00:32:56
DeMarcus Cousins.
00:32:57
Yeah, that's certainly going to generate.
00:32:59
If you had a healthy cousins, that's going to generate ah, better offensive outlook than if you had javale out there.
00:33:04
If you have Dwight Howard out there, not saying, Jailer, Dwight have done anything wrong with that.
00:33:08
They've been bad or anything like that, but just it's a different element.
00:33:11
It's a guy you can throw the ball to and say, Hey, go, go get us buckets that he could do that.
00:33:15
So I think this was one of the first times we've seen the Lakers kind of miss having a a DeMarcus Cousins type option out there.
00:33:23
A lot of that is because Anthony Davis is hurt.
00:33:25
Ah, so we'll see.
00:33:27
You know, we'll see where things go with boogie cousins to whether or not they'll move his contract, whether or not they'll bring him back next year.
00:33:33
But I felt like tonight if you had to, Marcus Cousins, you win this game, you know, you know, it's interesting you mentioned at the Boogie, and I think that bookie would have taken care of a lot of things for the Lakers.
00:33:43
In terms of you probably start Boogie next 80 and obviously have LeBron out there.
00:33:47
And then what you'd look at doing is way.
00:33:50
I guess we're both on the assumption that they had boogie.
00:33:52
Dwight Howard wouldn't be on wouldn't be on the team right So you're looking at it and saying, OK, you're gonna play start Boogie planned the 1st 45 minutes, figure out the staggering of 80 and LeBron.
00:34:01
And then you could have both those guys off the floor and put Boogie.
00:34:04
And with the second unit, where this is where I think Cosmo would have been better office bookies, a better passer than 80 out of the post boogie can.
00:34:10
Also, when he steps up to the three point line, he'd better at finding guys were able to cut in, slash doing some backdoor backdoor reads in that.
00:34:18
So I think playing next to Boogie would have been almost a blessing for colic.
00:34:22
Uzma.
00:34:23
Right now, when he's out there, he's with Dwight Howard.
00:34:24
He's with guys like, you know, Alex Caruso are not exactly great offensive creators, and I think that's where his game has struggled a little bit.
00:34:31
So for me, I don't think that Koosman sucks.
00:34:33
I'm not saying that he does.
00:34:34
I just think his fit on this team offensively seems like it's been clunky, and it has been since he came back from the injury back in back in November.
00:34:40
Yeah, yeah, Look, I I can see where that would be an issue.
00:34:43
As faras the fit goes on.
00:34:45
We talked about a heading into the season because he's he's a three or four and those are the two positions that LeBron and a deep place.
00:34:51
So that's a challenge in and of itself and then his fit on a bench unit that doesn't really have a creator, especially when Alex Russo's out.
00:34:59
Rondo's out that create some problems as well.
00:35:01
And again, folks, we're not saying that that DeMarcus cousins is the answer to everything.
00:35:05
There's some people saying saying, L a well, you know boogie isn't the answer and all that.
00:35:09
No, I'm not saying he's answered everything I'm saying in this particular game and this is nothing against Dwight Howard.
00:35:14
I think that his ability to create offense and like Jazz is saying to pass out of that high post would have been beneficial.
00:35:21
That's it.
00:35:23
Nobody is saying that book is the difference between the Lakers winning a championship or not.
00:35:27
I mean, I'm not losing sight of the fact that the team is 33 at eight at this point and they've done a lot of good things.
00:35:33
I just think that boogie is It would have helped elevate Kyle, who's most game is what I'm saying.
00:35:37
I don't like you said you would help win this game tonight, but nobody's sitting here saying you the answer to bring home the leader of Brian Trophy in June.
00:35:44
No, no, not not at this point.
00:35:46
You know, if we had if we're talking Prime DeMarcus cousins, Absolutely.
00:35:50
But right now, uh, no.
00:35:52
Don't think so.
00:35:54
Let's see here.
00:35:57
Um, you know what? There was a Okay.
00:36:00
Guess who from From YouTube.
00:36:01
That's what I was looking for.
00:36:02
Javale McGee, Block of the year.
00:36:04
Let's talk about a positive thing.
00:36:06
That javale McGee block on Terrance Ross.
00:36:08
Don't feel good.
00:36:10
Roscoe loaded up.
00:36:12
He wanted to.
00:36:13
Don't That's so bad.
00:36:14
I mean, if he throws that down, that's probably the top highlight of his career.
00:36:19
And he's had a few nasty dunks.
00:36:20
He had one actually saw.
00:36:21
Weirdly, I was looking at, like, the best dunks of the 2010 era or whatever.
00:36:26
And Terrence Ross had a dunk that he threw down on Kenneth Faried that was up there, but that if he if he dunks that on javale, that's probably the best dunk of his career.
00:36:34
Instead, it winds up probably being the best block of the Lakers season so far.
00:36:40
And certainly a top highlight for JaVale McGee.
00:36:42
Uh, credit to JaVale for going up, going up and going after that and kind of risking getting dunked on.
00:36:48
But, man, that was That was great to see JaVale swat that thing.
00:36:51
I want to see either develop Dwight, bring back the jumbo two point.
00:36:55
Oh, and just do it regularly.
00:36:56
Rocket shot.
00:36:57
Just do the figure way crowd.
00:36:59
You can't do it to a player.
00:37:00
That's right crowd due to player.
00:37:02
It's on thinking it's technical, whatever some weak ass rule, the MPs.
00:37:05
But you know what? Those guys have been great in terms of their their their shot blocking.
00:37:11
And yet to see McGee do that, it was like, That's one of those that you're doing in a playground.
00:37:14
Everybody sent up.
00:37:15
Oh, so I was super excited watching that.
00:37:18
Yeah, that was that was great to see.
00:37:20
Loved it.
00:37:21
And it was exactly that play the Lakers needed at that point because it went from a dunk into a score down at the other end after JaVale McGee blocked the shot and got the Lakers right back into it.
00:37:29
So great to see that was probably my favorite Lakers moment of the game for right now.
00:37:36
Jazz.
00:37:37
Let's finish up with this because every once in a while we'll throw this in there.
00:37:40
Maybe we need to do this more consistently.
00:37:42
But who do you think somebody said? Orlando's rimmed heads? Who blocks? Yes, Unfortunately, thanks.
00:37:47
Room if you were to pick a player of the game for this one and normally we just okay, it was LeBron or okay, it was It was e d.
00:37:57
I don't know if you go that way in this one who would be your player of the game for tonight's game? I was the tough one, right? It's between the two worst players and the Lakers.
00:38:08
Uh, cool.
00:38:09
I'm gonna go with Troy, Daniel, just cause I feel like his His shots that he hit were mo mentum changing.
00:38:15
And like you mentioned that big six points, he had a t end at the end of the first half.
00:38:18
So I'll give it to Troy Daniels in this about you.
00:38:20
I'm gonna go Quinn cook because I'm going to try to feel a little bit better about my off season hype off.
00:38:26
Okay, Selfishly, I must say that.
00:38:28
But I'm also said because hey, he scored 17 or he scored 22 points to Troy Daniels only had 17 of they both hit four threes.
00:38:37
I won't look at the percentage is there. You try.
00:38:39
Daniel shot a better percentage, but no, I just I liked how dynamic his game was.
00:38:43
I like the way that he was getting into into the seems the way he was hitting jumpers.
00:38:48
Things like that.
00:38:49
The his ability to, ah get his own open look was nice.
00:38:53
He didn't always work out, uh, made a few nice place, like, uh, the one where I think was Dwight setting a screen.
00:38:59
And then he completely faked the defender with the other way and then shot a three like that would have been a top 10 on SportsCenter if he had not that thing down.
00:39:08
And unfortunately, he just missed the shot.
00:39:10
I thought I liked a lot of what we saw out of Quinn Cook tonight, so I would go him.
00:39:13
But I agree with you. Troy Daniels.
00:39:15
I thought I had a really nice night as well.
00:39:16
So either one of them certainly deserving of player of the game.
00:39:19
Here's the key to it.
00:39:20
As soon as you asked me that question, I knew what you're actually is going to be.
00:39:24
So I was like, I ain't gonna say it quickly because I know he's gonna go to which feel about how great it Quinn Cook is.
00:39:30
So you know what? Have your moment in the sun, which is that they could say, You know what? We could learn something, and you could, but we'll give it to Quinn.
00:39:36
Alex Caruso was barely on the floor.
00:39:38
So who else was gonna go with Jack's? Right, Exactly.
00:39:43
All right, guys.
00:39:44
Let's Ah, let's wrap things up there.
00:39:46
Appreciate.
00:39:47
Oh, you're getting You're getting some crap about going to a Clippers game again.
00:39:52
All right, I know that.
00:39:55
So from here, the Lakers head out on the road, they're gonna be taking on the Houston Rockets coming up on Saturday.
00:40:00
I'm looking forward to a jazz, and I will be in the same place at the same time.
00:40:03

00:40:10

00:40:13
Should be a good one.
00:40:15
Carmelo Anthony.
00:40:16
Revenge game, maybe, uh, Banana boat reunion.
00:40:19
I guess with LeBron and and mellow, it should be a lot of fun.
00:40:23
Can't wait to see it.
00:40:24
Hopefully, the Lakers can pull off a win and then we can forget all about.
00:40:27
It was a pretty ugly night here against the Orlando Magic.

00:40:03
So we'll be.
00:40:05
We'll be sit next to each other on the show then.
00:40:07

00:40:09

00:40:10
See, the Lakers take on the Houston Rockets team that dispelled the Portland Trail Blazers tonight.
