as he t versus Knicks.
That occurred a little bit earlier today.
I'm not gonna sit here and just cover the great Games where he got a great win and looked like a title contender.
I'm also gonna cover the disappointing games.
I think that's just fair.
The Heat are not perfect team by any stretch of the imagination.
They have been very surprising this season.
They've overachieved for sure.
A lot of guys to come out and fulfill their role is better than expected.
But at the end of the day, you know it's a long season.
There's 82 games and it's January.
As we know, January and February can be very Ah, they can drag on a little bit.
It's right in the dog days of the season there.
So once you get to games 35 40 50 things can drag, you know, out of the initial phase, where you're kind of tipping off the season, but you're not yet.
At that point, we're making the final playoff push.
You get stuck in the middle and things can kind of get a little bit diluted.
You can lose their luster.
These contract, I'd tell you understand I don't understand, Um, but I won't come here out here and say that I'm not disappointed by this performance.
1 21 from Miami, 1 24 for the next.
This is the second game in a row where the Heat have been in relatively good control for the majority of the contest, and it comes down to the fourth quarter and then just not executing, particularly on the defensive end.
That's where I've been the most disappointed.
And after this loss that puts Miami down to third in the conference.
At 27 to 12 the Celtics have been to kick your business.
So they reclaimed the second spot at 26 11 by virtue of the win percentage.
Ah, buffer there.
The weird specifics of how that works.
They grab the second seed.
So, um, today I want to start with Nick's.
I want to give them their due.
Give them their props because they came out here and they're super aggressive for the jump.
Even in the first quarter.
The 1st 3 minutes of the game, I knew it wasn't gonna be a easy fight.
Randall ended up with 26 points in R J Barrett finished seven of 10 from the field, and he was very Both of those guys were very aggressive.
When they got the ball, they were not. Randall.
Settle for a few jumpers.
UM, R J as well.
It looks like Randall took 53 pointers and R.
J particular wasn't selling for a ton of long range shots.
He took 10 free throws, guys.
That shows how incredibly aggressive he was.
He was looking for his shot and he was looking for a good shot, Which for him, our paint touches.
They're dribble drives.
It's getting into the paint, slashing, using his athleticism, especially going to his left. He's much better.
Going to his left is right.
He's been very proficient at getting into the lane and causing habit, just just causing a lot of damage.
Seances do days since his days in high school.
That was the scouting report on R J.
His jumper is sketch, but he is definitely comfortable when he's going downhill and he has numbers in the half court and that's where he really preyed on one of Miami's primary weaknesses, which is real protection.
Meyers Leonard is not RIM protector.
Them can be at times, but, um, he's not any kind of crazy shot blocker.
He's very good on defense.
But you know, he's one man.
And sometimes when, um, the defense, the defense breaks down under perimeter and you have a four on three situation.
You can't guard two guys at once, so I'm not gonna put that on him specifically.
But the Heat, as in unit, definitely weren't in any position to containing kind drives tonight.
Julius Randle went back to his bread and butter tonight, 10 of 21 from the field.
Like I said, 26 points.
Eight boards, two steals.
So he was active on both ends tonight, but it also came back for him to the rim runs.
If you look at, go back and look a film of Julius Randle in L.
You go back, look at film of him in New Orleans and he's just a wrecking ball out there.
That's the best way I can put it.
He comes out here and he is just he's wild.
Sometimes you can get out of control, but ultimately he knows what he's good at.
He's also a left handed player very good at going to us left.
He got inside almost it well, and he made some things happen.
So Randall and R.
We're definitely two of the most dynamic players out there from the Knicks.
Arjun particular just This was a very encouraging game.
I know a lot of next fans that are just kind of besides themselves, because this and this is another loss season.
They're still 11 to 29 after this wing, so they're just looking for some kind of hope, something to grab onto.
Going forward in our genes.
Performance is just what they need it against them.
A little bit of a spark, a little bit of juice going forward in.
The Knicks have been playing much better of their last uh, 15 20 games than they were in the 1st 10 to 15 games.
So I will give them props for that R.
You know, you look, he's on a magnifying glass right now because he's rookie and here He was the third pick in the draft, so they took him looking for some kind of stability and a building block for the future.
The Knicks don't have a lot of that right now.
There's still kind of in limbo there.
There's a lot of revolving doors here at the team.
Reggie Bullock stuck to be with the team three years from now.
Taj Gibson is not gonna be with them.
You look at over Peyton.
Probably not Wayne Ellington.
Unfortunately, maybe not even treat so I mean, they're just the only guys I can't say for sure.
They're probably gonna be there Are Mr Robinson, um, Randall in R J? Um, maybe Knox.
So they really need to find some guys that they can feel comfortable with moving forward alongside over the next 2345 years.
Ah, this is the basketball.
See their starred Starved for some kind of success.
And they got that tonight.
They're just looking for some kind of, um so did you get attached to so they will look forward to this Gave them that confirmation they're looking for.
So I feel for the next fans, I see where they're coming from.
I can't imagine being part of some, uh, franchise that just can't get their sting straight after 10 plus years.
So they needed this for sure.
Taj Gibson was bullying in the paint.
He was five for six.
Um, he had a very nice game for them.
A throwback game, too, Um, his prime days in Chicago.
I mean, he looked very good out there on.
Let me get on here and say that this is one of the best games.
Speaking of young talent, that I've seen Kevin Knox play in quite some time 17.
6 of eight shooting and he was to a four from three.
He looked very confident out there from the get go.
This is the guy that I'm sure he wants a starting gig, especially with a team that's rebuilding that doesn't have any kind of clear direction.
I know he wants to be out there more than he is, but he got 20 minutes of play tonight and, um, 17 points and 20 minutes is pretty nice when you're one of those guys.
That's not not getting consistent run.
I'm sure there's some games out there where he has got a DNP or barely played.
This is very nice for him and no use looking for two days.
He has to be feeling great about this and hopefully Mike Miller could take this performance and used it as a springboard into the next few games here for them.
Um, they really need to start looking at that young talent, giving them more minutes because, like I said, Taj Gibson and Peyton at Bobby Porters, they're not here for the long run.
Most of these guys are under contract for this season, and the next season is a team option.
So it's like, Why give them 30 plus minutes or 25 or 28 when they're not gonna be around? Because they have one year guaranteed in this year isn't even a winning year.
There were that ninth, see the 10th seed and there were three games out of the playoff spot.
I get it, I really do.
But they're not anywhere near that in the 14th place in the East.
You know, they're down there at the bottom again.
So why not give the young gun some run? Right? Um, while we're on this topic, I definitely feel for Alonso tree.
Where I so Zo I see me here with zeroes across the board.
I am, um, disappointed.
I'm very disappointed in, you know, he was really good last year.
especially just from a scoring perspective.
I know the young player that looks like he's gonna be able to hold his own for a long time at this point.
Eight going shopping for sure.
Some team would love to have them on the squad.
Maybe somebody like Washington.
Somebody like Minnesota.
Ah, somebody along those lines.
Detroit could probably use him.
Maybe even the magic.
I'm just kind of throwing names out there, but oh, man, I would love to see him get some good run like you did last year.
He's a very exciting player, So that kind of set that saddens me a little bit.
Yeah, but this T was very well balanced tonight.
They just went hand painted.
I know they had at least 60 paint points tonight that really just absolutely shredded.
The acuity heats performance down the stretch.
They couldn't get any stops.
Really? When it comes to anything, I mean, the three pointer was kind.
Offer them, but they were getting the looks they wanted.
And then you're looking at how he operated, like inside that line.
And there's just no consistency.
So for the heat, uh, just wasn't one of their bet.
Better defensive performances.
I mean, this is their fourth loss in the last seven games.
So I'm not reassuring another loss against a below 500 team, joining the lifes of the Wizards with upset and then the Orlando Magic on the list as well.
So I think teams are starting to figure out what might be lives to do.
They like to work on the elbows.
They love Thio, work the ball.
It's the paint via off ball cuts.
They love to just get after it on defense.
And teams have picked up on the fact that although the perimeter defense is strong with Derrick Jones and Jimmy Butler and those guys, the interior is inferior right now, Um, you know, you're looking at Like I said, Bama Meyers.
Leonard, um, Silver's not getting a lot of run, even though he probably should at this point, James Johnson now not really gonna inspire any kind of fear in the opposition in the paint.
Uh, it's just kind of rough going right now.
So of the mining used to kind of re evaluate the roster, maybe they could make a move for a backup big like another back of big or Maybe Chris Soba needs that time.
Maybe he should take Meyers.
Leonard, some of blunders.
Maybe you should take Ah, some of I don't know.
You know, you're looking at Jay Jay's Minutes.
Gossett run tonight? Uh, So, speaking of J. J.
And I was very impressed by what he brought to the table, you know, he was out here for 20 minutes, and that's the most minutes he's gotten in a while.
So where James Johnson? He is still on a quest to redeem himself.
He's been a dark house pretty much all season.
So he needed a breakout performance, and he really brought it tonight.
6 to 7, shooting.
Um, he drained three of his 33 point attempts.
So James Johnson definitely brought the heat.
No pun intended tonight to the ball game.
Ah, highest scoring output.
And I've seen quite some time.
But from there it just wasn't pretty, um, productive.
Robert Sammie Tucker Robinson didn't perform well from the field, but over Isa team.
The heat did bring it on offense.
That was an issue in this discourse.
But they gave up 124.
So According to my math, that's just not gonna work consistently.
You can't be giving up 110 plus to every team you play.
That's not he basketball.
That's not how they operate.
They're all about getting stops.
They're all about making top life incredibly tough on the opponent.
They're not doing that right now, guys, we're getting to their spots.
That's what you have to do out here.
You have to take away what your point is, good at what they love to kind of work into their offense and for the Nixon.
For a lot of other teams, that's paint post offense.
We're not talking about post ups.
I mean, post ups are all but dead in today's MBA.
You know, if it's a post up, it's on elbows.
It's a dish to the inside or the outside via Noah Flair screen or something of that nature.
So straight post ups aren't really ah thing and then be a anymore flights.
I mean, it's that dribble drive guys mean the perimeter perimeter, um is not really doing their job, and then they get into the teeth of the defense and sometimes it is good defense looking at Duncan Robinson going up to get testing or Kendrick Nunn or **** Jones.
But there's only so much they can do whether they're undersized.
Maybe they're, you know, they're a little bit too, uh, then a little bit too short.
And, you know R J and Julius Randle those air beast in the paint.
These guys live to attack the defense offer, Dr.
So they're getting in ones.
They're getting offensive rebounds of the heat.
Uh, actually only lost the rebounding ballots night by one.
So rebounds wasn't really the issue.
It was just overall defense.
And, um, I do like, um, going back to the offense here for a second.
I mean, Jimmy Butler.
People like to say that he choked today.
He did have some bad Mrs there in the last few minutes, but he still led the heat and points today.
Hey, let them in rebounds and you'll have them assist.
So he's going out there, and he's doing what is expected of him when it comes to all around game.
His shooting is just not there right now.
He's in the mid twenties.
He's got to bring that deeper percentage because we get to the playoffs.
That's is not gonna cut it.
Teams were ducking under him all day.
If it comes to the Sixers or the Bucks in the playoffs, I mean, really, even the Raptor air, the Pacers, they're gonna exploit that all day.
So, Jimmy, work on your jump of my man.
My man. You got to get that under control.
I gotta get that under wraps.
Um, I mean, he air ball a little bit of a hook shot tonight.
Um, earlier today, that really wasn't contested all that much.
So for some reason, his jumper has just left him.
There's a mid range jumpers he's taking that aren't that difficult.
Now that I see him drain dozens of times in the past, they're just not going down.
So Jamie is having a little bit of rougher go right now, but I'm sure he'll get it together.
I mean, your percentage has got to go up at some point, right? You can't shoot 26% for this season.
I mean, if he gets at least low thirties, that's fine. That's cool.
But right now, heater searching further identity.
They have an identity, right? They know what they want to do? Uh, they're just not doing it consistently.
They have to get better at, um, again.
Just continue that dribble drive.
Getting sory. Protection.
So, um, curious to see what people are thinking about this.
I'm gonna twitter earlier and I throw out Dwayne Dedmon.
I'm not sure if he's a realist to target for them.
I didn't do any kind of research on salaries or what he could possibly give up to get him.
I was just kind of threw that name out there to see if that's a viable option to see if people will be on board with that.
So that's something that could happen.
I mean, they should lease, experiment with Chris Silva, get him back into the rotation, maybe even play in 10 12 minutes.
Just see how it goes to see if he can energized that phone call a little bit, giving them a little more energy, you know? Defensively. Offensively.
Sure, guys, they're still cutting.
They're moving the way they need to be.
Sound there on time on target.
Good, but the defense doesn't have that.
That the teeth aren't there.
The the claws are out there like it was earlier in the season.
So I still believe in this unit.
They're too well coached there to discipline till it a little mid season slump.
So I absolutely believe they're gonna get back on track.
Is just gonna take a little bit of time.
You know, things like this do take time and it's the MBA and it's a growing.
It's a marathon, not a sprint.
A to get three game winning streak was not gonna save you unless it's at the very end of the season.
And, um, you know, I'm the same virtue of three game losing streak in the middle of the season.
That's not gonna sink you.
So this is one of the things I do like about the MBA schedule.
There's another game around the corner.
I mean, they do have a couple of days off here.
The next game is Wednesday against the Spurs.
That's the next opportunity to redeem themselves.
But in the meantime, great game.
By the next, they're fans definitely needed something to hang their hat on.
I will give them tonight to kind of let loose their trash talk and get up there takes on Twitter and that they've earned it.
They really have rendered.
They've been do enough already.
So let's give them their moment.
They really needed this one s So that's gonna do it for my broadcast tonight.
Guys, I just want to jump on here real quick.
Um, later on here in the evening and the gifts of bus from this game.
Um, I need some time to process.
This definitely wasn't happy about how this went down.
Um, I was pretty frustrated after this game, too, because it seemed like that he were on top and they had at least a 10 point lead in the second half, and it just could evaporates at the last second.
So they'll be good on the next shot out to them.
I do like r J barrettes, progression and knocks gave us some kind of hope because Knox had been very consistent to this point in his career.
So we're gonna have to keep an eye on him going forward.
Definitely closer eye on him.
But it's all next time, guys, I'm signing out.
Um, let me know if you enjoyed this broadcast.
I'll be back real soon with more takes and interesting tidbits room this MBA season, both heat in otherwise.
So take care, guys that I'll see on the next one.
