00:00:07
everyone.
00:00:08
Thanks for tuning into another week of me re capping the Lakers this week, as you can tell, not nearly as excited to do this video, because this week for the first time this year, albeit but this week has been pretty frustrating as a Laker fan and someone who pays really close attention to the team.
00:00:27
Move this a little bit of light in the background.
00:00:30
She has conceived me a little bit better, but yeah, this week has not been a fun week.
00:00:35
This hopefully the only weak for this entire n B a season, the only weak where the Lakers do not have a win for an entire week.
00:00:44
They last one last Sunday against the Hawks did a recap recapping how it's a bad habit, screaming up some stuff that I'd like to see change or else they might be in for a loss.
00:00:56
Turns out I was right.
00:00:57
It's just they were in for a lost times.
00:00:59
Three.
00:01:00
So Tuesday night they lost against the Indiana Pacers by final score, I think like a three point loss, one of 3 to 100 or don't let me get a final score up here so they lost to the Indiana Pacers.
00:01:15
105 to 102 So close, but been a little while.
00:01:19
It's been a long week as a Laker fan, so try to forget those losses as best I can.
00:01:24
But yeah, lost to the Pacers.
00:01:26
One of five will know, too, when they play the Milwaukee Bucks, which was a very tough game.
00:01:31
That was one that I thought might lose that one.
00:01:35
Lose out on 1 11 1 of four, and I'm gonna get into breakdowns of each of these games and more detail in a little bit.
00:01:41
But just recapping in the general sense right now and then, obviously tonight against the Denver Nuggets.
00:01:46
Trist horrible display of basketball in the second half ended up losing 1 28 104 I just want to talk about I want start with Frank, wiggle and talk about how, for pretty much every single string, but I've done talking about the Lakers and stuff that have been happy with.
00:02:06
I've talked about Frank logo on how happy I've been with him and how up until up until last week, there really wasn't too much to complain about with Frank Vogel.
00:02:17
And if you wanted to nit pick Yes, of course you're gonna find something.
00:02:22
Oh, overall, big picture Frank Vogel.
00:02:28
And still in fairness to him throughout the course of this season, if you look at it as a whole, he's done a much better job than I anticipated.
00:02:37
A much better job than anyone anticipated.
00:02:40
And he definitely seems like he's still the right higher, even if he was the Lakers third choice at best, behind Monty Williams and Tyler or Tyler and Monty Williams, everyone to rank the 1st 2 But this week just Frank Vogel, and it could be deeper than just solely his decision.
00:03:04
There are politics that kind of come into this stuff with playing rage on Rondo as much as he has, but, I mean, he is the coach.
00:03:12
So end of the day, like it should be his decision.
00:03:16
And I gotta think it is his decision.
00:03:18
So when you have raised on Rondo in a close game at the end of the game over Danny Green, when you need some offense and you already have LeBron James on the floor, I've talked in detail before about how it's a little bit redundant have LeBron James and rage on Rondo on the floor at the same time.
00:03:37
Just because they're both LeBron James is incredible, with or without the ball in his hands.
00:03:43
But he is even more special with the ball in his hands, whereas Raison Rondo, if you don't have the ball in his hands, there isn't any need or any any reason for him to be on the basketball court because he does not play defense gambles way too much.
00:04:00
He gets lost on defense, loses his man.
00:04:03
He'll come over and try to double and leave his man in positions where he absolutely should not be doing that offensively.
00:04:12
He started the year shooting the ball really well from three, which I knew was just a little bit of the fluke and he'd start to come down to reality a little bit more.
00:04:24
But I was so hoping he could shoot around for you 42 to 44% and honestly, even more important than the fact that he was shooting the three at a really high percentage, I think he was about 50% before he injured his hamstring and was out for a few games is that he was willing to take those open looks to which force defense is to stay honest.
00:04:47
Because if Rondo was hitting 50 50 to 53% of his threes, whatever he was hitting before his hamstring injury on the year and he was only shooting one or one and 1/2 threes per game, that wouldn't be that big a deal.
00:05:00
Defense's would still stay off of him.
00:05:03
And, yeah, he's shooting at 52% making over half of its threes.
00:05:08
But when he's only willing to take one or one and 1/2 or two per game, it's still not that scary as a defense.
00:05:17
And, yeah, you'll stay off of them.
00:05:18
You'll still view him as a liability, even if he's shooting that really high percentage just because he isn't willing to take too many.
00:05:24
But he was shooting a decent amount from three before his injury, and he was shooting it well.
00:05:31
So there it was easier to justify him playing as much as he was and him being on the court with LeBron James because he was facing the floor when LeBron had the ball in his hands.
00:05:43
Since rage on Rondo has been back, though.
00:05:46
Let me get to what his numbers are shooting from three.
00:05:49
Since he's been back, Why is this not working? Here we go.
00:05:55
So Rondo, since he has come back from an injury.
00:05:58
So he played against the Portland Trail Blazers on December 6th in Portland, went two for two on three.
00:06:05
Got injured about, I think, was at halftime.
00:06:08
He didn't play the second half against the Heat in his return just a week later.
00:06:12
December 6th was his last game, when you play December 13th over five from the field, over four on three.
00:06:19
Two games later or two days later against the Hawks in Atlanta.
00:06:22
One for four on three against the Pacers two days later, one for four on three, including that three pointer at the end of the game where LeBron James did not even touch the basketball and Rhonda was an over Danny Green.
00:06:35
A minute.
00:06:36
Get into that a little bit more in a few minutes, but yeah, one for four against the Pacers over one against the Milwaukee Bucks.
00:06:43
And there was a play towards the end of that game, where again John Rondo was in while LeBron and Anthony Davis were in to close the game, which I'm just not a fan of at all.
00:06:56
There was a play where Rondo got the ball in the corner and was wide open and he did not shoot.
00:07:02
And it was so frustrating.
00:07:04
I normally when I watched Laker games.
00:07:06
Believe it or not, I stay pretty calm throughout it ****yzed stuff and just all stay calm throughout it.
00:07:12
Then afterwards, when I started to think everything over that small start to get a little bit upset about the stuff that they could have done better.
00:07:18
But in that instance, he was so open and the Lakers were down by things like eight or nine points of the future.
00:07:26
Yeah, this'll, even if he doesn't even take that shot.
00:07:30
I was screaming at the TV, shoot the ball, and he didn't.
00:07:34
He ended up.
00:07:35
I think he did a pump fake or something that he dribbled in the traffic and ended up being a turnover.
00:07:40
But anyways, yeah, over one on three against the Bucks and then one for four tonight on threes against the Denver Nuggets.
00:07:47
So, like I said, when Rondo is in shooting his threes or hitting his threes, which is not really doing either.
00:07:55
Right now, there's no point having in the game when LeBron is playing.
00:07:58
I know that tonight.
00:07:59
LeBron James is not playing, but the if you have to have LeBron and rage on Rondo on the court together, honestly, the best way to utilize them when they are together is to put them into bacon rolls together.
00:08:13
Where you have Rondo is the primary ball handler and LeBron James as the roll man.
00:08:17
Or honestly, even if you have Rondo setting the screen and you have LeBron coming off of that screen is the ball handler forcing whoever's guarding Rondo to switch on the LeBron, where that should be a mismatch of some sorts.
00:08:30
And then Ron Oken still roll to the basket, every smart enough to find holes in the defense where LeBron hand the ball to him.
00:08:36
And then he can make the next read off of that.
00:08:38
I trust him in those situations, but in terms of just in the vacuum, having him on LeBron James on the court same time, No, that's not a good idea.
00:08:49
Haven't been a fan of it, and that is my first complete complaint with Frank Vogel is just Why are you playing right on Rondo so much? And especially even more than playing Ray John Juanda when LeBron James is on the court? Why do you have Reagan Rondeau playing at the end of games? He should not be.
00:09:10
And especially when you're taking Danny Green, someone who is the Lakers most legitimate floor space or that they have.
00:09:17
And it's not even close.
00:09:19
Danny Green is their best shooter.
00:09:20
I know that he is streaky, but he is by far the best shooter.
00:09:25
Why are you taking Danny Green? And, by the way, Danny Green also plays defense, which when you're down in games, which the Lakers have been this past week, I kind of need that kind of defense to give stops.
00:09:36
Rondo does not give you any stops on defense.
00:09:39
If he stops someone, he's lucky he's not trying on defense.
00:09:43
He's just trying to reserve his energy for offense, that he could drivel the ball for 20 seconds and then trying to find someone open of the last few seconds of the shot clock.
00:09:52
And it just doesn't work against the Bucks.
00:09:55
Having Rondo and over Danny green.
00:09:57
That scenario.
00:09:58
I was talking about where Rhonda was so wide open and refused to shoot that I got so frustrated that I literally screamed at the TV set.
00:10:07
If they any green is in the game instead of rage on Rondo, if then greens open, that's a shop.
00:10:13
And 50% of the time it's going in.
00:10:17
And it's either Danny Greene's open and he's shooting that or the defense doesn't lag off or doesn't sag off of them.
00:10:26
Stays up on him.
00:10:27
And that creates more lanes for LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
00:10:31
Davis had a tremendous third quarter against the Bucks on Thursday night and the I mean, I'll get into the box game a little bit more in a little bit.
00:10:41
Let me start with the game tonight against the Nuggets and focusing on some stuff that I'd like to see Frank Vogel change.
00:10:48
So, yeah, number one thing is raised on Rondo.
00:10:50
Just don't play Emma's much Don't play him at the end of games tonight.
00:10:55
I mean, the game was over in the fourth early in the fourth quarter anyways, but if it was close down the stretch and you were playing Rondo Okay, I guess I get it because the Bron James isn't playing, and Rondo is really the only other player on this Lakers team that can initiate the offense and create for others, which is another problem in and of itself.
00:11:15
But, um, yeah, I mean, even having wrong toe start the game.
00:11:21
I I understand why Frank Vogel average on Rondo start because, like I said, it's the only one that can really not so much initiate the offense.
00:11:32
They have other point guards who can do that.
00:11:34
Alex Caruso, Avery Bradley, Quinn Cook to a lesser extent, but he is the only one that can really create for others Alex Caruso A little bit, but obviously not nearly the same way that raged on Rondo can.
00:11:47
So tonight, my issue wasn't so much starting rage on Rondo as it was who Frank Vogel started alongside of him.
00:11:55
So he had Avery Bradley starting at the two guard, which Frank Vogel said before the game, he loves the way that Avery Bradley starts out games and competes.
00:12:04
Kind of has a tone center, and I get that if you want to bring back Avery Bradley and the starting lineup like he was in for however many games he played before he got injured with his hairline leg fracture.
00:12:18
That's fine, I am.
00:12:19
I understand that Casey Piece played really well in a starting spot, but you want Avery Bradley to come back.
00:12:31
Label weapon off of the bench.
00:12:32
What I don't get, though, is why, tonight of all nights? Why is tonight the night where you go back, having Avery Bradley start over KCP? And at the same time, you're starting rage on Rondo because KCP talked about how Danny Green is a streaky shooter.
00:12:48
Casey Pisa streaky shooter, too.
00:12:50
But he's a much better shooter than Avery Bradley, and he's also been shooting the ball really well for quite a while now.
00:12:57
So it might be time to stop labeling him as a streaky shooter under safe.
00:13:01
He's a good shooter, but when you have raised on Rondo and Rondo cannot space the floor like I've said, you want shooters around him.
00:13:08
So they have Danny Green starting at the three, which was good.
00:13:11
But why at the two guards spot? Do you have Avery Bradley, who is an average three point shooter at best? Yes, he's gonna be able to keep the defense honest, but he's not gonna.
00:13:25
He's he's not going to force people to stay on him the way that kcp wouldn't kcp.
00:13:30
It's not like the defense has to be locked on to him and can't give him any breathing room at all.
00:13:35
But he is another shooter out there.
00:13:37
Something for defense is to think about.
00:13:39
And it just creates more driving lanes for rage on Rondo.
00:13:42
More passing lanes for him, where he can penetrate the defense, offer, pick and rolls with Anthony Davis or develop McGee.
00:13:49
Get into the teeth of a piece of the defense much easier and then kind of distribute or make smart decisions from there.
00:13:58
But when you have a re Bradley out there, who? Avery Bradley, how many points that he finished with tonight? He had six points to of eight shooting, two of five from three.
00:14:08
So, yeah, shot 40% from three, but still, just not not not the ideal person that you want playing alongside rage on raw dough.
00:14:18
So that was something where it's just it's more just disappointing than anything that think like Okay, Frank logo somewhere is supposed to be a numbers and ****ytics driven guy, someone who just gets it, and it's a basketball nerd.
00:14:31
And this is not to say that he's not, but stuff like this where it's stuff that even even myself, who I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable about basketball.
00:14:41
But I should not be anywhere close to the same level of knowledge as someone like Frank Vogel.
00:14:48
Why is it that I am even able to understand? No.
00:14:51
You want shooters around? Rage on Rondo? No, you don't want Rhonda on LeBron James on the court at the same time, and the numbers back that up.
00:14:59
But Frank Vogel just I do think when I said it might be a little bit of politics as well, I do think that plays a factor.
00:15:08
Anthony Davis and LeBron James both love rage on Rondo, and they both want to play with him, so kind of you obviously have to satisfy both of them the same time.
00:15:18
Rondo is viewed as a really good leader, and he look he did some stuff last year that I'm not too happy with her thrilled about, but overall, he seems like he's been a positive influence for sure on the Lakers and just helping everyone with their mentality, obviously knows the game of basketball better than just about anyone else on the team and really in the n B A.
00:15:42
He's one of the smarter players in the league, but that's not enough on your physical ability starts to go away.
00:15:49
And that's something that definitely happened with rage on Rondo.
00:15:53
He shouldn't be playing nearly as much as he does, and I just It's a little disappointing that Frank Vogel continues try to force the issue when he has players like I'm gonna keep beating Alex Caruso drum.
00:16:05
If you guys are annoyed with it, I'm sorry, but Frank Vogel needs to be playing outs.
00:16:10
Caruso A little bit more and not a ton more.
00:16:12
But I'd like to see.
00:16:14
I think Bruce, on the year is averaging a little over 20 minutes for game.
00:16:18
When Rondo has been healthy, I would half a guess that probably drops the summer between 15 to 16 minutes per game.
00:16:25
I'd like to see Caruso up around the 26 28 minutes per game mark just because he is.
00:16:30
You talk about smart, eh? NBA players.
00:16:33
He has one of the higher basketball accused on the Lakers, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
00:16:39
He's he is under the radar athletic.
00:16:43
You look at him and he's a balding white guy.
00:16:46
You wouldn't think he'd have any athleticism, but he does.
00:16:49
He's sneaky, athletic, but on top of that, just the way that he is able to see things and pick up on things defensively and just always be in the right position.
00:16:58
It's something that it's pretty special.
00:17:00
Tow watch.
00:17:01
And it's something that I just the Lakers.
00:17:04
They came into this year trying to pride themselves on defense.
00:17:06
Frank Vogel, throughout his coaching tenure, especially when he was with the Indiana Pacers, prided himself in his team.
00:17:13
On defense, you have Alex Caruso, who is the Lakersbest perimeter defender and going off of the numbers.
00:17:20
I think it's still this way.
00:17:21
I know last time I saw him.
00:17:22
Not too long ago, Alice Crusoe actually had the best defensive rating of anyone on the Lakers, which means while he's on the court, opponents score less points against the Lakers when he's on the court versus when any other player on the Lakers is on the court.
00:17:37
And that includes Anthony Davis to It's not to say Alex Crusoe was a better defender than Anthony Davis.
00:17:42
It's just a kind of give you some content to understand how good of a defender Alex Russo is.
00:17:50
So that's my first big right with Frank Vogel.
00:17:54
And then tonight, honestly, even a bigger, great right then the raid on Rondo stuff, because this has to do with keeping your superstars healthy and making sure that their availability is available for the rest of the year is when Anthony Davis got injured.
00:18:12
So Anthony Davis, in towards the end of the third quarter, was defending Paul Millsap.
00:18:19
Millsap drove to the basket and Anthony Davis just slipped on the wet spot.
00:18:23
Random.
00:18:25
Just a random event, and it sucked to see because he his knee bent in the weird way.
00:18:31
And luckily, he was able to keep playing on it.
00:18:35
He got sucked out a little bit later, flexing it a little bit, but then he went back into the game in the fourth quarter and I get I get testing it.
00:18:46
He he was sitting on the bench and the doctors came over.
00:18:50
The team.
00:18:51
Doctors came over, looked at his knee.
00:18:53
They were doing different tests.
00:18:54
You could see Anthony Davis was grimacing, though, and holding his knee.
00:18:57
But clearly the doctors said that it was okay for him to go back in or else he wouldn't have gone back in.
00:19:03
And obviously he was saying he was fine to go in.
00:19:06
Or else again, he wouldn't have gone back in.
00:19:08
So he was definitely good enough to go back in and try it.
00:19:12
You went back in and you could see when he was moving north and south just in a straight line. He was fine.
00:19:19
But when he was trying to move laterally, whether it be on defense, he was getting blown by by different guards.
00:19:28
That is my alarm to do my SportsCastr stream.
00:19:31
Sorry about that.
00:19:32
But yeah, you could see when he was on defense, especially moving laterally going up against guards who? Yeah, the guards were a little bit quicker than him, but he was getting blown by in ways that you just didn't typically see from him.
00:19:44
And then, especially when Anthony Davis got the ball on offense and I think he was being guarded by Nikolay Yokich, he turned to face.
00:19:52
Yokich and the Nuggets sent the double team.
00:19:55
Davis tried to spin out of that.
00:19:57
Ended up getting the ball stolen.
00:19:58
You could see right away.
00:19:59
He pulled up, grabbed his knee and he was limping.
00:20:03
Frank Vogel still left him in the game, and at that point it was like a 20 point game 22 point game with seven ish minutes left in the game.
00:20:12
Why on earth is he in the game? Even if, look, if he's completely healthy, okay, you keep him in for a few more minutes trying to do one last push, See if you can get it down to within 12 or 14 points with four and 1/2 for five minutes left.
00:20:26
And if not, then you take him out.
00:20:28
But when he's injured and the chances of you winning the game with a healthy Anthony Davis are extremely slim, there's no reason to have him in the game.
00:20:37
Frank Vogel made some comments after the game.
00:20:39
I forgot with his exact comments were, but it was something along the lines of Anthony Davis said he was good enough to go back into the game and he looked okay enough to me.
00:20:50
How How did he look okay enough for you when he was grabbing his knee, limping and pulling up on it after a spin move.
00:20:59
And beside from that, just the what I just talked about with him getting blown by that is not Anthony Davis, and it just doesn't make sense, just doesn't make sense to leave him in the game and possibly make whatever this injury is. Worse.
00:21:15
I really hope he ends up playing on Christmas Day.
00:21:18
I've been looking forward to Lakers Clippers ever since the first game of the season.
00:21:24
Any any other, even remotely.
00:21:26
MBA fan has been looking forward to that match up, and it would really suck not to see him trance.
00:21:31
LeBron James might not play because of the injuries that he's dealing with.
00:21:35
The of course, didn't play in the game tonight.
00:21:38
So it sucks that the injury bug, which as the hold the Lakers have done fared pretty well so far this year against injuries.
00:21:48
But it just sucks that that's coming to bite them at the worst time as an n b A fan, because you always look for those Christmas matchups.
00:21:56
The Warriors pelicans game on Christmas Day is already gonna be a disaster.
00:22:02
When then BA had that schedule, they obviously thought the Warriors were gonna be a lot better than they were.
00:22:07
They thought they'd have Stefan Curry playing Draymond Green, who's been in and out of the lineup.
00:22:12
They obviously thought he'd be playing as well.
00:22:14
And then, of course, with the pelicans, they thought that Zion would be playing.
00:22:18
And he I am so excited to see Zayan play I.
00:22:21
There's been some reports that he might not play this year.
00:22:24
I I don't want to believe them.
00:22:26
I just really hope he does play this year.
00:22:29
Originally, his timeline was supposed to be around six weeks.
00:22:32
He's, uh, I might not play until be start of 2020.
00:22:42
It started the new year calendar year, not n B a season.
00:22:46
But yeah, I'm just I'm hoping that's Ion is able to play at some point this year because be really fun to watch it.
00:22:52
But on Christmas, nose eye on know Steph Curry Warriors pelicans is gonna be a mess if the Lakers Clippers, which was supposed to be the marquee matchup if they and, uh I wanna shuck something, yeah, I was double tracking it.
00:23:15
Thought it was Warriors pelicans, but it's not.
00:23:18
It's The Warriors were playing the Rockets and the Pelicans were playing the Nuggets.
00:23:22
So it's two separate games.
00:23:23
The Warriors, Rockets.
00:23:25
You would expect that to be a huge blowout that's gonna be in Golden State on Christmas.
00:23:31
So not gonna be a very good Christmas, most likely for Warriors fans and then the Pelicans Nuggets at 7 30 right after the 7:30 p.
00:23:39
m.
00:23:40
Pacific time, right after the Clippers Lakers game ends, it's again just for when I talk about those Eye on Pelicans were struggling, so that's two games.
00:23:49
That probably won't be too exciting on Christmas if the Clippers Lakers game ends up being no Anthony Davis or LeBron James or, God forbid, no Anthony Davis and LeBron James, that's gonna be another game.
00:24:03
That probably isn't going to be too exciting to watch.
00:24:06
You saw the morning games.
00:24:07
That should be good.
00:24:08
Celtics and Raptor at 9 a.m.
00:24:11
Pacific time and then Buck 76 years at 11:30 a.m.
00:24:15
Pacific time.
00:24:17
I'm really excited for that one that one, Given what I know right now with the possibility that LeBron James and Anthony Davis might not play against the Clippers on Christmas.
00:24:28
That Buck 70 Sixers game could very well be the most exciting game on Christmas and probably one of the best games to watch for the entire N B a season.
00:24:37
So that would be a fun one to watch.
00:24:39
But it just sucks what's happening with the Lakers and the injury bug.
00:24:43
So that's kind of my main gripes with Frank Bough again as a whole, he's done a tremendous job, as the Lakers had coach.
00:24:50
But those are just some things that I have more stuff to complain about with Frank Vogel this week that I have combined over the course of the first, however many weeks leading up to this week.
00:25:01
And obviously, it's not a coincidence that that coincides with the Lakers three game losing streak, but it just sucks to see some of the stuff that's been happening.
00:25:11
Some of the decisions that have been made, so I hope that doesn't turn into a trend.
00:25:15
It kind of feels like it's already turning into a trend because it's been going on for a little while.
00:25:19
It's been going on since before the three game losing streak, and it's just now it's turning and come back and bite them.
00:25:24
So hopefully that gets fixed soon.
00:25:27
Going back to just break down the Lakers games over the last three over the last weeks of the last three games.
00:25:34
The game tonight obvious against the Nuggets that talked about that a little bit with regards to Anthony Davis.
00:25:40
But Lakers came out in the first half and they were competing really hard.
00:25:43
They're playing really good defense and their offense wasn't working extremely well, but it was still good enough.
00:25:51
Felt like they were gonna have a chance in this game against it.
00:25:54
Really good Denver Nuggets team that's been on a roll.
00:25:56
I believe they've won six straight, six straight now.
00:26:00
But in the second half, Lakers just fell flat.
00:26:03
It reminded me a lot of the game against the Dallas Mavericks.
00:26:07
Obviously, Lakers weren't at full strength for this game, but against the Mavericks, where in the first half Lakers have it close.
00:26:14
I think they had a two point lead at halftime and then third quarter the bottom just fell out from under them and they completely just pretty much gave up against the Mavericks, kind of how it felt in this game.
00:26:27
They were up 67 65 a little bit into the third quarter.
00:26:31
And then they I think that I get someone like that 14 scoring run, which again, when you have raged on Rondo in there and Avery Bradley Bradley's gonna help the on defense.
00:26:43
But offensively, you don't have not four spacers, though.
00:26:46
It's going to be pretty tough to score.
00:26:48
So that definitely contributed to the Lakers allowing that 14 run.
00:26:52
But other than that, I mean, the Lakers just they didn't compete for the whole game.
00:26:56
The first half, the tremendous effort.
00:26:58
I think they have, like 15 offensive rebounds in the first half or something ridiculous like that.
00:27:04
And then second half, you just didn't see that same type of effort in type of intensity.
00:27:08
I hope I just My main hope from this game is just I hope Anthony Davis is okay.
00:27:14
Is healthy enough not just to play, but healthy enough to continue playing and not have that injury bother him if he's sore at all, or there's any chance that the injury could be made worse by playing on it as much as it would suck, not happy and play on Christmas.
00:27:31
He needs to rest.
00:27:32
Same thing of LeBron James.
00:27:33
That's part of the beauty in the late the River, the number one seed.
00:27:41
They still have a good lead.
00:27:43
I think it's two and 1/2 games or three games, and the number one seed isn't everything this team has shown.
00:27:49
They're resilient.
00:27:50
Resiliency, and their ability to compete and win on the road home court, for them is not nearly as big of a deal is.
00:27:57
It would be for a much younger team like the Denver Nuggets, where home court is a lot more important to them.
00:28:04
So rest is the most important thing for the Lakers.
00:28:07
Health is the most important thing for the Lakers, actually.
00:28:10
But rest is, obviously goes hand in hand with health.
00:28:15
So, um yeah, as faras the game tonight.
00:28:17
Just They did not compete in the second half, and they got killed as a result of that, going back to the game against the Bucks.
00:28:24
That one was kind of.
00:28:26
It reminded me a lot of the Clippers game to start the year where you got out, too.
00:28:33
I mean, Lakers got out to, ah, slower start against the box committed against the Clippers.
00:28:38
That Clippers kind of scratched on clawed their way back after the Lakers got off to a big start.
00:28:45
But it was the second quarter started the second quarter where the box and the Clippers in the opening game both made a run.
00:28:55
And with the box, though, I mean, the honest had five threes.
00:29:00
So Lakers were down by, like 20 something points, 22 points at halftime.
00:29:05
They started toe scratch the right back in the second half. Third quarter.
00:29:09
Anthony, they said, You know how many points in the third quarter? 13 or 15? He had a great third quarter.
00:29:15
He actually played the entire second half, which shows how much this game meant to him.
00:29:21
He was coming off of a sprained ankle.
00:29:24
He didn't even play The game before against any of the Pacers.
00:29:26
So meant a lot to him.
00:29:28
Obviously, we didn't know at the time, but the wrong James was dealing with his Thor ASIC muscle strain, which is a muscle in your chest, and that's why he missed the game tonight.
00:29:40
He didn't look like himself against the Bucks, so I'm hoping that kind of explains it.
00:29:44
And hopefully, once he is healthy enough to return to game action, he's back, too, his regular self and what he's looked like for the majority of the season this year.
00:29:55
But as the whole Lakers were down by over 20 in the first half, they clawed their way back.
00:30:02
You're honest at five threes in this game, and that's his career high.
00:30:07
You're not expecting him to hit that money.
00:30:09
He had a step back three on KCP, where for as part of a shooter as the honest has been proud his MBA career.
00:30:18
He had no business making that three, and he still did.
00:30:22
Over the course of December, though, Yonas has been shooting really well from three yet.
00:30:26
I think right around 40% clip, which is terrifying because if you're honest can even shoot 35% from three.
00:30:35
There's no point in playing the game because there is no way to stop you, honest.
00:30:40
If he has a three point shot.
00:30:43
And so he hit those five threes, though Anthony Davis didn't hit any threes.
00:30:49
You think on a given night, going off of what you would expect the honest to shoot from three's.
00:30:53
He was five parade.
00:30:55
Maybe he's two for eight or even 348 That's six less points.
00:30:59
And I know this is a little bit a little bit reductive, where it's not that everything doesn't line up perfectly just because the honest If he did miss two more threes and only go 348 it doesn't necessarily mean the Bucks would score six last points.
00:31:15
But just in a vacuum, for argument's sake, he went three for eight or two for it.
00:31:20
Let's say 336 less points.
00:31:22
Anthony Davis went.
00:31:25
He didn't hit any things that he was like over five road for six.
00:31:28
So let's say he even went to for six on threes at six more points.
00:31:31
Lakers lost by, I think, final score.
00:31:34
They lost by seven.
00:31:36
That right there is It's a little bit rudimentary toe.
00:31:42
Put it in terms of that, but it's just There were chances for the Lakers to win this game, and there were chances, even with Johannes hitting those five threes and Anthony Davis not being able to hit from the outside.
00:31:53
Obviously, Davis was great in this game, but there were other chances down the stretch the wrong.
00:31:58
James had a few key turnovers at the end of the fourth quarter where again could be his injury that was bugging him and not letting him play to his fullest extent.
00:32:08
He also got trapped in the air a few times where he was looking to pass and the lane, whatever passing and he saw closed up and he kind of got caught in the air and turned the ball over there.
00:32:19
So some stuff for the Lakers to improve, for sure from that game.
00:32:23
Bucks or a really good team, though, and they played some really good defense.
00:32:26
George Hill was really big in the game, and it's just it's a nice measuring stick for the Lakers to show them.
00:32:33
Even when you're close to fully healthy.
00:32:36
LeBron was dealing with an injury.
00:32:38
Davis was just coming back, whose mom was still out for that.
00:32:43
My false reign.
00:32:45
You still have stuff to work on and I hope that the Lakers are able to work on that.
00:32:50
They have three or two days off between the game against the box and then tonight against the Nuggets.
00:32:56
They have two more days off before they play on Christmas Day against the Clippers.
00:33:00
So I hope more than anything, they could just get healthy, but also that they can just work on, worked on some stuff that I talked about, obviously with the rotation, but also just just Amy and even fundamentals.
00:33:14
With LeBron James not getting trapped but defensively to, there are a few defensive lapses for the Lakers, where it's just going back to your defense of principles and being able to communicate on defense, which I'm very confident in their ability to do that.
00:33:30
They shown that they can do that really well for the year.
00:33:32
Frank Vogel is really good with his defense of concepts and preaching, just talking on defense.
00:33:39
So I I would expect them to not have to money issues with that going back to their first game of this week against Indiana Pacers, where they lost by three.
00:33:49
That was one where I when Anthony Davis was ruled out for the game, I was kind of expecting them to lose that game.
00:33:57
But I didn't think that they would lose it in the way with which they ended up losing it, if that makes sense, they shot horribly from three that game.
00:34:06
I think they shot under 50% from the free throw line.
00:34:09
That literally was the game.
00:34:11
If they hit two more threes or if they did, you don't let me look up exactly what they shot from the line or from the three point line.
00:34:25
So from three, they were eight for 31 25.
00:34:29
8% on this is a team that I believe they're one of the top three point shooting teams, if not the top one in the n B A.
00:34:38
So a little bit of a fluke.
00:34:40
On top of that free throws, they were only eat for 17 47%.
00:34:44
Pacers didn't shoot well from the line, either.
00:34:46
They were 13 of 20 but Pacers were kind of 25 from three, which is 40%.
00:34:51
So that makes it big difference.
00:34:53
Like the game was lost right there, The Lakers competed really hard.
00:34:58
They played really hard, is incredible, that shooting 26% from three and under 50% from the free throw line.
00:35:05
That's incredible, that without their ******* second best flair, whatever you wanna label Anthony Davis as it's incredible that they were still in the game until the very last possession.
00:35:17
And with that last possession, if I just wanted to see LeBron James touched the ball, he didn't touch the ball.
00:35:25
Rondo got the ball dribble down the court and shot a three.
00:35:28
Where Why, why is it that I want Rondo to shoot more threes? But to shoot it in the rhythm of the offense to open up, open up more space for LeBron James and Anthony Davis to do work inside.
00:35:42
And when he has open threes at that point, he chooses not to take them.
00:35:47
But when it's end of a close game and he knows that the right decision is to get the ball to LeBron James.
00:35:53
Just why is it that at that point, that's when he decides, You know what? I will shoot a three.
00:35:58
And it's not one of his conventional freeze, where he catches and shoots shooting off of the dribble, which I don't think I've seen him make 13 off of the dribble this year or last year.
00:36:09
It's not what he does, but you try that.
00:36:12
He tried this against the Pacers and not surprised with what the final result was.
00:36:18
So that is my breakdown for this week for the Lakers again, just a lot of more things than usual that I have to complain about and that I'm not too happy about. With Frank Vogel.
00:36:29
I am hoping that this is just a bad week for him and that he is able to adjust.
00:36:35
Look over the film, look at the different ****ytical data that he supposedly understands and looks forward to looking at.
00:36:44
And I just really hope that he can figure out There's some things that he needs to do differently as a coach, and the Lakers need to do differently as a team, and hopefully they can bounce back.
00:36:53
And I really hope this is the only three game losing streak the Lakers have this year.
00:36:58
And this is the only week in which the Lakers do not have a win.
00:37:01
So hopefully I won't have to do another recap like this.
00:37:05
Get back to some happy, happy times as a Laker fan, and so that will do it for tonight.
00:37:12
I will try my best to do a pregame preview for the Lakers.

00:00:07
everyone.
