00:00:28
Hello, everybody watching this random stream? This is no podcast.
00:00:32
This is no game.
00:00:33
This is This is this is just something that I've been thinking a lot about with the NHL.
00:00:38
And obviously, if you see the background behind me, you can probably think about what I'm gonna talk about today.
00:00:44
I'm just gonna pull it up on my phone so I could read out the exact quotes to you guys and everything.
00:00:49
And if you're joining late, I'm sure that you just put up a comment.
00:00:54
Or if you really want to know if you want to know stuff, just comment or anything and like I'm just ready to openly talk right now because I'm just I'm a little bit outraged by what's going on in the NHL right now.
00:01:09
It's It's just so sad out.
00:01:11
You know, we'll get into in a second.
00:01:16
It's just it's just really unfortunate what's going on in the NHL right now in terms of what's going on with head coaches and the new initiatives and how today's world is changing and how it expect it goes.
00:01:30
It goes further than just okay.
00:01:35
This guy's doing something bad.
00:01:37
He's out of. Here it go.
00:01:39
It goes further than that.
00:01:41
I think it's more about guys not losing their freedom of speech because that's a whole different talk.
00:01:46
It's just coaches air losing any of their power and authority and that their jobs are basically held the recently on the leash of the general manager in the organization.
00:02:02
I mean, you could argue the players are, too, but they're kind of locked in.
00:02:06
And if they're out there still getting paid, this is a different situation with these coaches.
00:02:11
It's very weird.
00:02:13
So we're gonna go, We're gonna We're gonna start from how everything started.
00:02:17
Um, we're gonna go intact with 1st 2 situations now.
00:02:21
Mike Bab****, Mike Bab****.
00:02:23
Everybody knows that.
00:02:24
He can be sort of in a hole sometimes, I mean, but that's how some coaches operate.
00:02:30
Some players hate playing for John Tortorella.
00:02:33
Some players hate playing for somebody random, even like appraised Coast.
00:02:38
Maybe some players. Hey, playing on a joke.
00:02:41
Obviously, players hate playing under Bill Peters, but that's the life of playing professional sports in the fact of life and business.
00:02:51
You're gonna run into people that you have to work with that air just flat out a holes.
00:02:57
Now you can either be all grumpy about it and go over their head and like if you were in school, if you're dealing with a bully or something, tell the teacher this is it.
00:03:10
This is kind of that situation, but it's a little different because it's a matter of like the coach is losing their power and that the whistle is being blown on their every move and every move that they've ever made is being questioned.
00:03:23
And even if they're having great success, then they can have it all taken away from them.
00:03:30
All of their money and their season and the organization's success.
00:03:35
I mean, I was outraged by the Bill Peter situation.
00:03:39
I was outraged by the by Bad**** situation.
00:03:44
I think you have heard a few different takes on it and then when I heard it was actually I was in the middle of a test and when I finally heard what had happened with Jim Montgomery, I was thinking OK, that's the line has been drawn for me.
00:03:54
I got to talk about this.
00:03:56
Let's start out with the let's start out with the coaches.
00:03:59
So Mike Bab**** people say his navel.
00:04:02
The thing is, we'll get to what he did a martyr a second.
00:04:06
The thing is, when you hire a guy like Mike Bab**** and you sign into that kind of deal with that kind of money TORONTO You know what? Your daddy out of him.
00:04:21
He's been successful, and he's apparently done this for years.
00:04:24
I mean, we could only guess, but you're signing him to that kind of money in that kind of term, and you're telling him that he's taking control of this organization right now.
00:04:33
When they were going through a rebuild, you know what you're getting from Mike Bab****? You do because you've seen things happen before.
00:04:44
This isn't a rookie head coach.
00:04:45
This is Mike Bab****, who's won a Stanley Cup and gold medals in the World Cup of Hockey.
00:04:49
You know what you're gonna get from this guy.
00:04:51
And so, basically, Mitch Marner apparently was asked by Mike Bab**** to list the A list of the hardest working guys to the guys who work the least like in terms of grit in terms of that kind of mentality.
00:05:05
With the Toronto Maple Leafs.
00:05:07
I understand the point coming from people who are saying that it's not right.
00:05:14
Bab**** is being an A hole.
00:05:16
You can't do that to an 18 year old kid, and there's a fine line between good coaching and doing stuff like this.
00:05:23
I understand that point.
00:05:24
I really d'oh My issue is that you're you're in the National Hockey League, where everything is supposed to be not professional in terms of acting, professional account of this.
00:05:40
In terms of that, everything needs to be like My point is that in the National Hockey League and you're playing in the NHL, I don't care how old you are.
00:05:53
You had a gross and balls and be mature about okay, Like I don't care if you're an 18 year old.
00:06:01
Ah, 36 year old could be dealing with the same thing.
00:06:03
Ah, 44 year old could be doing with the same thing.
00:06:05
A 25 year old could be dealing with the same thing.
00:06:09
It doesn't matter to me.
00:06:11
I don't care if you're Mitch mourner and you're this Toronto Phanom and you're 18 years old.
00:06:17
I don't care if you're the NHL, you should be doing what your coach tells you to do to a certain degree, but this, I think, is funny.
00:06:30
Let's move on where? I don't think it's fine.
00:06:34
Now this is a situation that is making me go like I would have never thought.
00:06:40
It's like when you know, it's like when you look it, it's like on TV, like when you think that this guy's all like, nice and everything like perfect example.
00:06:48
Here we go, I I I am starting to binge The Simpsons right now, and it's one episode that I've seen a 1,000,000 times just because I like it.
00:06:55
And I've seen I saw what I was like a little kid that it's an episode where Sideshow Bob, who's like the villain who's always trying to kill Bart Simpson, moves in next door to The Simpsons.
00:07:05
And he has this like very nice personality and is always doing favors for everyone is very nice and does everything he wants just for other people.
00:07:15
And then it turns out that he's a bad guy, that everybody everybody's perception of him was bad, and it was Sideshow Bob the whole time trying to kill bar with a big plan That's what I think is happening with me and Bill Peters right now.
00:07:30
I mean, I don't know Bill Peters personal, obviously.
00:07:33
But from what I've heard and from what I've seen, that Bill Peters just a great hockey coach, he's a great guy, and I remember what I This is like the one moment like I don't really follow the Calgary Flames or when he was with the Hurricanes.
00:07:45
What? I remember what Bill Peters is When he got hit in the face with Puck last year and he went to the locker room and got it all stitched up came right back out, and he was so funny.
00:07:55
It is in his interviews, and he seemed like such a nice, like, fun guy was having to be their coach, and it seemed pretty cool.
00:08:01
But this is my point here.
00:08:05
Then Bill Peters gets accused by this guy.
00:08:07
I don't even know what his name is, Even though it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter who it is in today's world.
00:08:12
It's just if you have an accusation, it's going to be believed right away, even without evidence.
00:08:22
And this guy, I think his name is like a key became a loo, played for the NHL, played for Bill Peters that with Bill Peters that apparently there was there was something with, like, racial remarks or something and that it came a little offended.
00:08:41
Now, if you're gonna call someone the word that you can't use it if you guys can catch my drift, I I I don't know if you can, but, um, there's a fine line where, Okay, I think that listening with backpack is fine.
00:08:58
But this work, if you're making racial remarks or maybe using physical tactics just because a guy is a certain color of skin or certain racer, suddenly ethnicity, then I think you're in trouble.
00:09:11
Which is why I just don't have enough information on what Bill Peters was doing to Akeem aloof then I would understand it more, but as of right now, I don't decide Bill Peters, for the most part, because I get it that, like, this is a big issue today, but there's no physical evidence.
00:09:33
The residents, so they're firing.
00:09:35
Basically this guy, based on pure accusations.
00:09:38
I mean, the NHL made an investigation with this guy, a king who could've been talking out of his ass to the league.
00:09:43
You're not under oath.
00:09:44
You could do whatever you want.
00:09:48
Former professional player.
00:09:49
You could do whatever you want and any accusation you make.
00:09:53
If it's about like race or anything like that, it's gonna be taken seriously right away.
00:09:56
It's gonna be taken as the truth at some point as it gets blown up on Twitter and blowing up on social media and blown up on everything, even by reporters, even in articles, even in interviews and everything.
00:10:05
So that's my problem with the Bull Peter situation.
00:10:09
Now this the next one.
00:10:11
Okay, we'll get to that after basically what happened with Gary Bettman and everything that happened.
00:10:15
The NHL launched their initiative in response to the coaching abuse allegations, which is basically what they called their whistle blower protocol.
00:10:22
So here, manager commissioner Gary Bettman publicly address the allegations of abusive behavior by the coaches, ranging from racist language to physical abuse.
00:10:30
In the statement, he said and quote, the world is changing for the better.
00:10:35
This is an opportunity, a moment for positive change.
00:10:38
Evolution should be expedited, extradited for the benefit of everyone associated with the game of love and even while changes taking effect, we must acknowledge things that were wrong in the past.
00:10:47
Now this comes all and what happened with Hakeem blew and with Bill Peters, racial slurs and the miners over a decade ago in Mike Bab**** of mistreating players and psychological intimidation.
00:11:01
And then Mark Crawford is under a under investigation for physical abuse and think about the Panthers almost had him, Bettman said.
00:11:12
He stressed the importance on counseling, education, concierge, conscientious raising, training and diversity and inclusion, and that that's some conduct needs to be reported, maybe a hot line, and they don't want this conduct happening again.
00:11:31
I understand what the league is doing because I'm gonna relax here.
00:11:35
I understand what the league is doing because they kind of have to.
00:11:38
In today's world, like you're a professional organization, you're a business.
00:11:42
You got to run things professionally and you have to say, OK, we don't know.
00:11:46
We can't tolerate any of that stuff, Especially today.
00:11:48
When nothing goes, you can't tolerate it.
00:11:52
So the league is putting their foot down here that things need to be reported.
00:11:55
Things can't be hidden by any teams, and that's basically it.
00:12:03
And let's move on to the last thing I'm gonna Wow, it's about to pour in my house.
00:12:08
Um, let's talk about the last situation here.
00:12:10
So Jim Montgomery, the coach of the Dallas Stars, I've loved this team for a while.
00:12:17
Like like there are teams in the NHL.
00:12:19
Like, obviously, the Panthers are my favorite thing to their teams in the NHL.
00:12:22
That I just think I found the watch, and I like to see Succeed.
00:12:25
One of them is Toronto.
00:12:27
One of them is the stars.
00:12:29
Um, let's think what other teams I like.
00:12:31
I like to see the Ranger succeed every now and then.
00:12:33
If it doesn't affect the Panthers, if they're just teams that I like to see succeed and there's some guys out to sea succeed.
00:12:38
I like Auston Matthews to succeed.
00:12:40
I like Sidney Crosby to succeed their economy.
00:12:44
David and Nathan McKinnon, who were tearing it up there.
00:12:47
Just some guys that I like to see do really well in the Dallas Stars are a team that I like because I like Bishop Jaime.
00:12:53
Ben has been one of my favorite players for a long time.
00:12:55
Tyler Sagan's got a lot of skill, love drop of LCD.
00:13:01
Very great with the park.
00:13:03
I love this guy, Miro Hi Skin in and Klingberg and the whole lineup.
00:13:06
Like, How could you not love the Dallas Stars? Now here's what Here's what happen.
00:13:12
So there was an investigation? Um, there were some not an accusation.
00:13:18
The organization think they found something out that was going on, and Jim Montgomery was immediately fired.
00:13:27
Now here's what I think is crazy about this because you knew right away this this wasn't just a regular coach being fired.
00:13:35
We're going to the Dallas Stars past few games.
00:13:38
They just shut out the New Jersey Devils without with a new coach.
00:13:41
They just beat the red hot New York Islanders baby the Winnipeg Jets while they lost to the Jets in the Wild Baby Vegas Baby. Chicago.
00:13:49
They beat Winnipeg, baby, that Vincent.
00:13:51
Maybe Vancouver baby Calgary.
00:13:53
That's all. Interrupt.
00:13:55
That's a seven game losing streak right there to finish off the multi November, but Alice Stars currently are in a playoff spot.
00:14:07
They're one point away from a divisional spot and two boys away from second place in three points away from first place in their division.
00:14:16
So this obviously wasn't based on poor play in our nice performance.
00:14:21
This was based on something off the ice, with Jim Montgomery and the stars firing him.
00:14:25
And I'm outraged by it, because if I had more details, maybe I would understand and switch sides.
00:14:30
But as of right now, I don't know anything.
00:14:33
No one seems to know anything, and it's it's bad just because we don't know anything.
00:14:40
I'm repeating myself.
00:14:41
But I'm just so outraged by it, because William joke, Thanks for the follow man, Joey, you made it.
00:14:50
Was that point just getting I got it.
00:14:51
So you can't say anything and we don't know anything, and it feels like we're not gonna get any information and that we're basically just going off What the minor statement from the team and that this didn't fall under the new protocol, by the way.
00:15:07
But it's just like Jim Montgomery.
00:15:09
I don't know what he did, but it's being wrong.
00:15:11
He's losing all of this money.
00:15:13
He worked hard to coach University of Denver to finally coach the Dallas Stars.
00:15:18
He won a playoff run for the first time in years.
00:15:20
For these guys, they want to Game seven overtime against Stanley Cup champion ST Louis Blues.
00:15:29
Guys, this was it.
00:15:33
This is what drew the line for me, and the reason I have the NHL Coaches Association right behind me is this, that we're winding down the stream, by the way.
00:15:42
So this is what you know what? We're getting serious for taking the Michael take the mic off.
00:15:46
That's how we do it.
00:15:48
What makes this a serious situation for me is that I feel bad for these guys like any coach could be called out and be fired like the Florida Panthers.
00:15:59
My favorite team are playing well in a drawer.
00:16:03
They're currently third place in their division.
00:16:07
Somebody, let's say I mean, he doesn't speak, so let's just take Sasha, Barkov said.
00:16:13
Joel Quenneville was being rude about my finish and Russian Descents and culture.
00:16:23
Wendell has no job, and he moves.
00:16:25
Is the $30 million that he's making for the next few years.
00:16:29
That's my problem with it.
00:16:30
Anybody could be fired at any moment, and there's nothing these guys can do about it.
00:16:35
They may have the worst job security in the week, just like that boom.
00:16:39
They're fired by a guy right above them, and it may not even be their fault.
00:16:43
The team could be playing bad and the coach could have nothing to do with it.
00:16:48
I mean, Bill Peters.
00:16:49
His team wasn't playing well, but booming got the Yankee need even know what was going on.
00:16:53
I mean, he resigned with still Jim Montgomery.
00:16:56
He gets the Yank, he gets fired and we don't even know what happened.
00:16:59
He could have done nothing, and it could have been accused like he could have done nothing morally wrong.
00:17:06
We don't know anyways.
00:17:08
It's really bad, and I'm scared for the NHL coach is because they have no job security.
00:17:12
It seems like now everybody's getting their fingers pointed at just because one person speaks out, Everyone's gonna speak up now.
00:17:19
And who knows? Maybe we have 30 new coaches in the NHL.
00:17:22
Who knows, Who knows? Maybe, Maybe Ron Francis already gets fired from Seattle.
00:17:28
Nothing's going on, but I'm just saying anything can happen out there.
00:17:31
Ah, player, get me suspended for a season.
00:17:33
Let's say Sidney Crosby said something said something that wasn't even that controversial.
00:17:37
He could be suspended for a whole season.
00:17:40
He could be banished from the league.
00:17:44
Anything could happen in today's day.
00:17:46
So if you're going to go lesson away from this, know that everything you say can be taken the wrong way could be taken and distributed and that today's is very scary world.
00:17:59
And you need to watch what you say, how you act and how you conduct your business.
00:18:05
NHL coaches and organizations I really pray for you, especially the guys who got fired.
00:18:12
I hope you find work soon, and I hope everything goes well.
00:18:14
So I hope you guys enjoyed this little stream.
00:18:17
I am thinking about starting my own either a podcaster YouTube channel. I already have a few.
00:18:21
I'm thinking about starting a new one just about like my own hot takes.
00:18:25
Like this is this is a hot take for me on this situation.
00:18:28
So I'm thinking about like making a new suit like a new thing called hot chicks.
00:18:31
I think that would be pretty cool.
00:18:32
So hope you guys enjoyed this live stream on SportsCastr, and, uh, yeah, that's it.
00:18:39
Hope you guys like the topic and it looks like we have no questions.
00:18:43
So I will see you guys the next time I stream
