Welcome to the actions of the Sunday in the Grey Cup.
As with Thea Hackers and 400 pregame show, I'm joined once again by San Francisco 40 Niners Full press coverage.
Managing Editor Brian had Harada Ryan, how are you doing this evening? Yeah, I figured that definitely was gonna be one of us.
Happy, the other one.
Some other things.
Maybe not so happy today.
But yes, um, 40 Niners with a very convincing 70 70.
Imagine that. Felt like it.
The 37th victory over the Green Bay Packers.
So, uh, to the victor go the spoils.
Ryan, you give your instant reaction first.
That would look like with thank you.
That offense was that this is what's happening.
I'm one heading into another tough game against the **** happens.
It's just missed eight free football.
That's what you're taught tonight. And that's kind of scared me.
Think that the 40 Niners could be just getting better, um, get to to the playoffs? Yeah, absolutely.
We talked about before the the game about how important this was gonna be for standings, both with division and, uh, eventually conference seeming as well.
So right now the Packers are tied for the division lead with the Vikings.
Now, do you have the tiebreaker with me? Victory, Which means I alluded to before that week 16 game between the Vikings package is gonna be huge.
But, uh, as you mentioned before, the 40 Niners started very difficult stretch here.
And, uh, I need to get a one win out of this and have before their two road games this seem like, really important to get this one home victory. And it's really difficult.
Yeah, definitely is.
I mean, looking at the schedule and you knowing that you have these three games back to back to back, you are hoping that the very least, you know, pull out this game.
You figured it was gonna be a difficult game, But you figured there at home you can win this point in the next two are really just a just a crapshoot.
But seeing how they performed today, I'm one of those where I'm awfully trying to re evaluate my expectations when it comes to teams and seeing how this game's played out, I'm seeing on the defense played and seeing how the often is basically play for stakes.
Three. Put the ball.
That can happen.
And if that can be something that really becomes a hallmark, then you're expecting, you know, to.
And one maybe even caught all three, depending on how New Orleans or Or or for the more evens kind of feel head against that get himself.
It doesn't seem as daunting did the artifice of people.
But I'm for them again.
They're just gonna have to just do what they need to do, and we don't turn the ball over.
They committed some turnover, especially early.
It's funny, cause I feel like I'm about to give the same game recap for two different games.
Very similar situation, both games.
But, um, so, you know, um, but the 40 Niners defense.
Really? You know, we we tend to be expected the defensive line to former standard.
Who told me that Bryan Bulaga was gonna miss most the game? I'd expect at least five sacks.
You know, they performed at as well as we thought it wasn't just also was Armstead was constantly making good plays and made life very difficult Packers often supplying, but the times when they did get protection.
So you make the coverage really held up? I know a Jimmy Ward.
It seems like he came up with clutch play after question plate early in the fourth quarter on 1/3 and third and long and Adams looked like he was an implant.
Uh, you know, ready to make a play and, uh, Rogers to pretty good pass.
And Jimmy Ward got in there and knock it down.
And really, you gotta change.
The momentum was at that point, the 40 Niners were coming off a field goal.
Uh, Dr and then the package tryingto answer back with some points their own and just couldn't muster that were chasing pretty much the entire game.
We kind of talked about it a little bit early, not the other day and the fact that I mentioned Jimmy, but someone was finally healthy, and he's playing.
His natural position is playing the free safeties.
But when he got drafted a few years ago, he came out of a safe, see if they grew them around and he's also a really good It's a corner which is why I will play him.
There was also that kind of of 20 or 30 yards past.
I think that the Rogers through to Graham and it looked like it was gonna be a short completion there.
And you saw Jimmy Walpert break on the football and get there in enough time and basically just do enough to force the ball out.
So you know he's playing well.
I mean, the defense in general is just the fact that you have Cris Collinsworth was talking about it.
Where you have Emmanuel mostly was playing amazing.
Right now you have a key Juan Williams to is the best, you know, inside Nickel Corner in the league.
And yet Sherman playing well, and you have basically everyone in that secondary playing well, and it's for five or six guys right there.
And it makes the defensive lines job a lot easier.
You always almost wonder if sacks are more of you with coverage and interceptions have more to do with pressure.
It's funny how it's usually the defensive backs getting interceptions and credit for that, and likewise, the defensive line getting sacks.
But you know It just shows that every play, all 11 necessary football's very connected aspect.
And a lot of times that whether it's offense or defense got a lot of things, a lot of moving parts that have to work together, doing separate things for a plate of succeeded.
It seems like for the 40 Niners they were having success.
Everything, no matter what it was offensively, your defensively, and the Packers really had no answer in either facet.
And frankly, even in special teams of hackers, couldn't get any good returns.
Not that they allowed any big returns.
The 40 Niners, but they certainly, if they at least got some decent returns.
I could have maybe been a spark for for the offense, but never had great field position to start.
Sorry, anytime the Packers did put a drive together, it was usually very taxi very long.
And obviously the only only one Dr resulted in point.
So, uh, so we got a hard time moving the football.
And defensively I mean, the others Cem big plays like they mean the big 61 yard touchdown on George Kittle, honestly, that at that point that pretty much effectively ended the game once that was poured made it a three sport game again in the second half.
And from then it really You know, at that point, the result was never really go after that big catch by Kittle.
Uh, Kevin King? Kinda.
You know, uh, you know your blood type up with that cornerback's You can't, uh, you can't close your hips.
You can't turn your hips to the side.
No, you're back to the end zone.
And King did not do that.
You got sold on that.
That double moving kettle made it look like he's gonna go outside the head of the middle and wide open for the touchdown.
So definitely not a great game for Kevin King.
Yeah, but a few times and I was running.
If marquees Goodwin might be a player to get a big, big catch, we're gonna be in total.
Most of the players ended up healthy, and we talked about that as well.
Samuel and Sanders will question really well played.
I didn't look like anyone aggravated any injuries that I noticed again.
I was more focused on No, not having Bryan Bulaga.
Looks like he did all right.
I mean, you know, he allowed some pressures, but everyone on the offensive line is doing that court eventually didn't play a great game.
So overall, I think you know, before nine is just did a great job executing it all is I mean, yeah, going, going to, you know, just starting off what your point was was, You know, when you look at even special teams, you know, um, the 400 drafted a puncturing that, but he was the fourth thrown with no skin.
Just looking at the I'm looking at the stats right now after the game, and I'm looking at the punts and the for his part in ball.
Four times there were only two returns by the actors that net ah total of negative three yards.
That's one thing the points have been really good at this year, is just preventing punt returns.
I mean, it's it's very rare to see them.
I I want to see the averages under 10 yards per return.
It's closer to like five or six now that that's something where the offense just as to not turn the ball over and the defense will get the ball back and put the fuel position, and that's something that they have been able to do.
I mean, you talked about how the Packers have had? No, they had a long drive, but it didn't amount to anything, and it came down to, like just looking at the time of possession.
There was a good 11 minutes, pretty much that was of an advantage for the Green Bay Packers.
And you look at the scoreboard.
Just didn't make sense.
Um, I was actually surprised at how little passing, how few passing yards Aaron Rodgers finished with.
I'm also kind of surprised if you're looking to score and then looked at the yardage, just looked at the numbers.
You know, you wouldn't necessarily feel that the 40 Niners want a boot go out like that.
But the fact that if he had Aaron Rodgers and who's much direction quarterback one of the best, much ever in the league and he's now had two performances with under 100 yards is this season.
You know that that's that was really telling him to see him on the side ling and over the last five minutes and it was just, I know it was a shocking thing to see.
Especially when you didn't really notice.
I mean, you didn't feel like he was a 37 8 game, and it felt like the 400 are still just pedaled all the way down on the floor.
No, but as they say, all that's no break.
But, um, yeah, it's just it's a ****ing toe.
So see that sword to see the weight of the 40 Niners kind of did what they wanted to do.
They didn't need to do a lot on offense, but still moved the ball in.
You know, you can't really get upset with scenes.
Appeared 40 Niners fan or you have questions about Jimmy Garoppolo.
I mean, the guy was 70% on the day, 250 plus yards and two touchdowns. No interceptions.
He hit the throes needed to make in.
They did enough.
That's all that really matters at the end of the day.
Yep, well earned victory for the team.
But, uh, it's funny.
Four times were really good at preventing punt returns.
The Packers have right now in the year in all their punt returns, minus 11 yards.
So they've been really bad at it.
No uh, no surprise that both those friends continue to this game, right? Yeah, it's No, it's been something in terms of where the fault lies.
You know, coverage tends to be good.
I think it's a lot of a lot of times it is because I know there's one place where Smith he came up way too far in the ball, kind of sealed over me, that kind of backpedal to adjust.
And by the time you got balls on the ground and defenders in your face or your gunners in your face so just, uh, no, you don't have to buy personnel.
I know they kind of hoped that, uh, Darius Shepherd would actually step on that role and may be contributing offense.
And he really didn't have a climate that fumbled some opportunities.
Um, really does seem like there because they are released.
Trevor Davis after week 30 Open picked him up.
It does seem like that may have been, ah, mistake because Trevor Davis was their return guy last year, both on Kickoffs and punched a lot times a mantle card.
But he was there, too, did some partner attorney as well.
But you think Davis was the best suited for that role.
And maybe they overestimated the area Shepherd because he hasn't Uh uh.
They released him to me Fumbles and not so many good plays.
And I think I know what in the one gave in the er the lion's game.
He he he fell on an end zone, uh, throw and being returned by the lions pretty deep into packers territory.
You know, Alan Lazard came in.
That was like, the Alamo is our breakout game later in the fourth quarter.
I think they had had enough of shepherd after that.
So yeah, it does seem like a releasing Trevor Davis was a little short.
Um, maybe they miss his presence a little bit.
Uh, you know, this package team is it's a couple times they come in and really gotten the tire's blown off and maybe a bit more understandable here.
This is a before night is what They're not 10 and won their record.
They're 10 to 1 after today.
That enemy and it is a little more respect will get beat by that Save the Chargers this year.
In there, some 500 record but this doesn't feel great.
And so kudos again to the 40 Niners.
I mean, yeah, one of the things that you know, if I'm looking at the package is moving forward.
The danger is in the fact that you had really twice now, where you've had very similar defense is come out and just I hate to use the word, but just smother, you know, just Mother Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense.
You had it with.
You had it with the Chargers.
You have this with four Niner.
There's a lot of similarities between those two games, especially with those two defense is and the schemes that they run.
Obviously you have the boast of brothers who are on those teams, but you basically have the formula of how did rush Aaron Rodgers and how to just kind of kind of stifle that offense.
And if you're moving, you know, if you're looking at the playoffs and you're looking at possibly playing the packing of playing the Seahawks in the playoffs or or any one of those teams, you know, you have to kind of worry, you know, is is the floor gonna be able to make the adjustments, especially now that you you think about it.
This is the second time this has happened with roughly the same defense.
So you gotta wonder if you could make the adjustments.
And, you know, if your 400 obviously this is a great great news, unfortunately, because, you know, the Seahawks won, you kept the pressure on the foreground there.
Same thing with the same.
So these next two games are starting to be just as big.
Um, again, if your 400 if you can split these two road games, I mean, that's That's gonna be a huge benefit because you still have the home game against the against the Rams later this season.
You still have the end of the season finale against Ah, the CPL. Excuse me.
So for the $4 you're just hoping to just at least split these next two games at the men from there.
Just go ahead and do what you gotta do.
And it's funny, because the next two games are almost the exact opposite.
They play Washington and then the Giants.
They've won a combined four games this season, so you know the package.
Definitely take care of business against those two.
At least hold serve in the NFC North and, uh, with the Bears Week 15 which again the Bears were playing.
The Packers should win that.
And again to that Vikings week.
You know, just like the 40 Niner Seahawks game at the end, you're very important.
Could be deciding who wins the division.
So, yeah, definitely, that's that's gonna be exciting last two or three.
But the NFL has been doing that for the last.
I wanted to the last seven years now where they put big divisional games at the end of the year.
So that's that's gonna be fun.
The you know, it does seem like in the NFC seating is gonna beam or interesting than the actual playoff race of who's gonna make it a little Rams getting the wind.
We're well, we'll see if the brands could get away and stick around there.
At least make it interesting for the Eagles.
Losing that kind of puts a damper on their hopes that any chance of a wild card really we need to get to the you don't get through by passing Dallas and getting the absolute least.
It seems like the reels to make the playoffs.
But for the Packers, I mean, the loss is bad.
But, uh, even worse is the loss of Dr Malaga's mentioned.
He left in the first half.
Uh, it seemed like a tweaked his knee and they ruled him out of the game pretty quickly.
And that's never a good sign.
It's almost at this point.
It's only a multi week injury and Nazis in any season ending.
I think that might be a victory in itself.
Eso concerned with Malaga will find out the next couple days, hopefully a status, hoping it's not fearing for the worst right now.
But hopefully it's not that.
But, uh, so we'll see you because that puts a big damper on actors because Log has been having a great season again.
Got beat, uh, at times by, uh, both an Ingram in the Chargers game.
But outside of that post, August was really great, died holding pressure and doing some good run blocking, and Noah seems like the Packers favor a lot more runs to the right side.
Lean to the left behind Billy Turner and Malaga's.
That's what both Jones and Williams feel more comfortable on the floor, feels comfortable keeping a lot of runs that direction.
So we may see that change and maybe they'll run more towards the left side of the line.
Alex Light has to be in there for an extended period.
I'm Yeah, I mean, it's it's gonna be rough.
I mean, not everyone can get as lucky as the four years I've gotten lucky with their tackles, going down and having two backups pretty pretty darn well, I mean, in the first half today, granted the the tactical just pass protection as a whole.
It kind of looks really bad in the first half, up until basically halfway through the second quarter.
So, um, if you're looking at the Packers, the goal is to just No, hopefully he's out, Maybe three weeks, tops.
I mean, you're still going to be in the playoffs.
I don't see this came collapsing anytime soon.
So if they can just kind of steady the ship, even if you get in it at, like a 10 and six or something like that, your urine, that's that's all that matters.
And they'll probably get a game.
Um, more than likely against a relatively weaker of, you know, division winner.
So you're gonna probably face either the someone in the wild card who could be, uh, it could be the Rams.
I may not be great for them.
Same thing on the East.
Maybe they could be facing if they end up losing and getting in the wild card for the pressures that they face.
I want the Cowboys and they have the Cowboys.
So, you know, if you're the Packers, it's just a matter of, like, just trying.
Don't collapse as long as you can kind of keep keep your wits about.
You just finished this key and I'll just get to the playoffs and get everyone healthy.
I mean, the Packers A few years ago, they won.
The Super Bowl was as the six seed, so they won every game on the road, so they certainly can make it through the wild.
Um, I almost wonder if you play the Vikings week 16 and somehow the standings end up where they play the Vikings in the division in the Wild Carter divisional round.
So that's also not out of the question, either.
The third game against the Vikings this season? Uh, yeah, as for myself, because I'll give a quick grey Cup recapitalize.
Gonna stick around for that right crust? Uh, yeah, sure, but it's actually similar.
Start to the Packers game.
So the Thai cat started with the football.
I had a couple of good runs got.
Think what Two first downs early and the first pass play the game.
Uh, Dale Evans dropped back into a deep, deep intermediate.
Seemed about to, uh, the rookie jail in Akron and the ball kind of sailed off his hands.
First pass, play the game interception and, uh, the tight as defense actually held well and forced him to punt after that.
So no damage there on.
And then the tie Cats on their second.
Dr Evans through another interception.
And I started to get it, was keeper downfield and then, uh, cards, field goal range and actually got into into the red zone.
And Andrew Harris, Canadian he was running back, led the league last year.
He ended up scoring, rushing touchdown from 15 yards out to give early seven. Nothing lead.
Um, tight cats were able to kick a field goal later things find there.
But, uh, they also had another drive ending, huh? And it was still in the first quarter.
And with a turnover on down, so three turnovers in the first quarter for the Thai cats really could have set them behind like that.
While the first turnover didn't didn't get punished by the defense held up did start to take its toll after that.
Turn over on downs.
Uh, Andrew Harris again, uh, ran a bo 35 yard lines ran another seem out of the middle.
Uh, it's more of a post route and, uh, really nice catch for running back topping, topping a running back.
He actually lead. That would have a clue.
Receptions and part of that of his injuries on the team of their top receiver.
Missed quite a few games this year.
Uh, Andrew Harris has been a valuable commodity, not just as a runner, but also was a pass catcher scene with the Lions.
He's a big part of the Great Cup in 2011 now, doing so for his hometown with a bacon bars because actually, from Winnipeg, I think that there were four not only Canadian players for Canadians were from the city of what, a bank.
So, uh, you know, a lot of hometown talent there for that big victory up on their part.
But, uh, type cats ended up committing five turnovers throughout the game, just like the Packers were chasing.
Seems seemingly in the entire game.
And due to a severely turnovers off the opening drives, a Prius left behind so again shows that you win the turnover battle in football.
You know, with the game not just necessarily because the points off turnovers, but also the situations were putting teams in wasting their possessions.
And, uh, not not them, not themselves, not scoring points.
So, uh, yeah, run.
The offense kind of got going and they designed some good plays.
And, uh, Hamilton got at least 12 points better the Packers.
We only got to eat, but, uh, another injury concern matter big for the Thai Cats.
Brandon Banks receiver slot back.
He actually won the m o *****.
You're NBT uh, award in the CFL for most Outstanding player.
Led the league in receptions.
Said actually started tie Cats franchise record for receptions with 112.
Uh, let's lead in receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns also led the league, and he added a few more, uh, hot return and rushing touchdowns.
I think he ended up with 15 or 16 total touchdowns on here.
So great season for banks gets way.
Spoke a little bit before our last episode about Jeremiah solely at no quarterback of Hawaiian heritage, so I know you appreciate into that he was the tyke at starting quarterback.
Is your freak want Tore his A C L.
Unfortunately, Dane Evans came in well, but banks being ableto for use regardless of who the quarterback was really a testament to him and, uh, about it was early in the third quarter, he, uh, after making a trying to make a catch, landed awkwardly on his shoulder.
It's you actually broke his collarbone last year, so there was still some last year's playoffs.
It was late, so they were still maybe not fully healed.
And now it's at the end of the year.
But, uh, hoping that banks recovers well from that because he missed the rest of game and seemed like without him as their speed threat.
And they can, you know, throw him the ball underneath and he can gain first downs after the catch with this incredible speed, and he's because he's small.
He's a 5 600 pounds shifty rib spackle and make some great catches and some good speed so tight.
That's definitely missed him in the second half when they seem to have the start to get some momentum.
Football, but not there, big play potential.
They just kept falling behind.
And, uh, and then after a while, the defense just, you know, tight.
That's number one defense in a lot of categories is your great defense.
But they were just on the field for too long.
After all those turn short off.
By the second half, they were just getting more.
Now did you get Andrew Harris ended up winning in the Grey Cup, most outstanding Canadian but also most player, which is the first time that's ever happened in 107 breakup that the most outstanding Canadian also was the most outstanding player, which I fully deserving of.
Harris, who for a couple seasons now has been again Winnipeg's number one weapons, also is a runner and a receiver.
And, uh, I think at one point Winnipeg had scored on seven or six of seven possessions, whether it's field golden touchdown.
So that middle stretch there where the defense really couldn't stop it in the offense, couldn't get going.
That was that sequence kind of ended the whole game for the Thai Cats and great season franchise record by three wins.
The previous record was 12 outstanding season with the first year head coach Orlando Steinhauer.
Eso something to build off for sure, but definitely disappointing this.
It's a great opportunity to cap off one of the best seasons in franchise history.
The Blue Bombers ended 29 year drought for titles.
1990 was the last great cup for the Blue Bombers on, uh, unfortunate tie.
Cats extend their already 20 year drought.
So it was the two longest drops in the CFL.
One of them is gonna end.
And unfortunately for myself and the tie cats, that one continues.
So yeah, so, uh, I know I did put a few CFL videos.
Your debt castle next year.
Ryan, do you have anything Thio say the people before around.
We also know I'm honestly men.
I mean, always, always a pleasure.
I do want to point out that Not only was it great to wash this game for me this weekend, but, uh, he also had thes Arizona State Sun Devils not snuffed the number six team in the country Oregon Ducks.
And that was a big opposite.
So that was also nice last night.
So yeah, it's been a good weekend.
Hopefully, you know, hopefully everyone has a great week.
If you're celebrating Thanksgiving this week, pretty much a few of the U. S.
Uh, happy Thanksgiving it If you're not wolf.
Well, I guess you'll enjoy some awesome NFL football on Thursday and you pay? Absolutely No, I certainly will, even though it's not really Thanksgiving here.
But yeah, thank you very much for coming on, not just for this video, but for their opinion.
Did you come on? The podcast is, well, fancy pods, so definitely appreciate Talking your time, very knowledgeable about football and always great to hear your voice.
I appreciate it, man.
Like I said, every time I come on, if anybody ever just wants to have a chat about football, ideally, if you want to talk about offensive and defensive lineman, I mean, let's just do that point, Yeah, winning in the trenches and it was again.
Certainly the 40 Niners did a great job of that tonight on both ends.
And it really showed in that 37 8 victory over the hackers.
Yeah, you could follow Ryan on Twitter at Ryan Advert Arata right here on the screen, in the middle myself at Yama Underscore ks and find that out down at the bottom left.
Why am a underscore ks So? Yes, on behalf of Ryan equal press coverage 40 Niners managing editor.
My name is Kyle Center.
Uh, you know, have a good night, everyone.
