Welcome back into the week out.
Nets live streaming on.
SportsCastr is The Nets managed to get themselves out to a lead here in the fourth quarter.
Quick foul call there against the Chicago Bulls.
Here we call it for 1/2 time break, looking for a couple of the members of the Brooklyn Nets that can't step up in this one and assert themselves more with the absence.
Obviously, Caris Levert with the injury and then, of course, Tyree Irving not playing in this one due to a shoulder inflammation, and it pretty much bored out.
We mentioned about going over the foul situation and that third quarter, essentially, the Nets went heavy into their bench, and they had both prints.
Didn't Woody Harris and Alan all with four fouls, so they certainly couldn't risk not having available it all in the fourth quarter.
And the bench actually set up in this one Claxton Jordan, use of Pinson and Shumpert, even though Shumpert certainly still coming out minus 17 in terms of net rating as DeAndre Jordan, it goes to the line free throw attempts, knocking down the 1st 1 of 6 98 klaxon and 17 minutes 46 from the field.
Had those couple of three point attempts in the first quarter.
Did not go back to it again in the third or fourth, but comes off the court here so far with a plus four and eight total points.
Additionally, you see DeAndre Jordan knocking in his second free throw, extending into a nine point lead.
Feels like this one should be wrapped up for the Nets and the transition of the defense's side of the ball.
But seven points for Jordan and this one use of going 29 minutes in this game.
And despite the fact that shot two and nine from the field, just wanna six from three point range plus one rating in contributing five points.
At the very least, what you saw from him with the ability to stay, fell the starters in this one and give them an opportunity and found trouble.
Avoid falling too far behind in this still a plus rating from users so means that he was a nice job facilitating on the offensive side of the ball against additional stats.
Here is dimwit he hoists from deep, hard off background.
But with just 48 seconds to go on a seven point lead, as long as the Nets can avoid disaster here, as you were gonna give the Falco, I thought maybe Jordan was gonna get away with that.
So there will be a foul called.
They're against Jordan will be two shots going a line with 43.5.
And in a game like this, when you do have a lead, Obviously what you're trying to avoid on the defensive side of things is getting into any foul trouble stopping the clock and allowing the Chicago both potentially chip back into this game to such back in there just on use it for a second.
Spite of the bad shooting from the field.
He did contribute seven total rebounds and also five assists.
So we mentioned how the next we're gonna need to try to facilitate in spite of losing their key starter.
And for the most part, they were able to Jordan actually have a nice kick out Thio to Joe Harris.
They're in the fourth.
He was able to drive the lean and scratch, certainly as ah as my girlfriend just goes wild in the background, smashing glasses.
Jordan was able to, you know, move his role a little bit, going in another direction with it and give them an opportunity.
They're gonna actually call the found here quickly.
So they're trying to double team with 36.3.
So a five point game following the free throws on the other end and we'll see if somebody can get to the line here.
Not got a couple, and probably helped the Nets close this one out.
Someone easily, Uh, your team.
Take a look at some of the other players that did a nice job for the for the Nets in this one story on Prince we mentioned in the first half, shooting just one and nine.
He only puts up another four attempts in the second half, but does go 304 on those shots.
Knocks down an additional three pointer.
Had a wide open look there when he came back in early in the fourth quarter, so he ends up finishing, as of right now, 13 points plus five on the rating.
Had two assists.
This one committed two turnovers but five rebounds.
So you know, this took a full effort, especially when you're talking about players that are struggling and getting into foul trouble against the team that you really don't want to see.
That be the case.
Two free throws go down for dignity and we're gonna have +109102 lead here with 30 seconds to go deep.
Three does go down, you know.
2 point two possession game right now.
And as Taurean Prince tries to inbounds, they will get a time out called from Kenny jackets and down the other and Tory imprints struggling to find an open man to get the ball into on you dive into a couple of notes that I had had as we looked over that fourth quarter there, uh, beyond just what we saw in terms of, you know, getting back into this game and having a lead right.
We dive injustice, some numbers here and cook 35 points in the fourth quarter, but one, the third quarter, 24 to 22 primarily again going through the bench with so many players in foul trouble outscored in the second quarter of this game, 37 to 20.
So certainly fell behind there again because of foul trouble as the highlight of the broadcast.
Spencer Dinwiddie with 20 points, 10 of 11 from the line.
Four assists right? We highlighted the disparity from the free throw line as well in this one, and we'll certainly it didn't come back down.
Nestle necessarily the Earth.
Chicago Bulls have 41 total attempts, knocking down 38 of them.
But the Nets did, at least Serge going getting up to 23 in the second half of this game.
Knocking down 19 looks strong fromthe line on this one as well, didn't you leading that really with those 11 attempts? Certainly had the downhill mentality in the fourth quarter alone.
Got the line, I think, three times.
So you had to see somebody.
They charge for it.
And in all likelihood, you anticipated being dignity.
A guy who acts stretches over his Nets career and even early in this season has been ill take over games 33 point performance, going back a few games and in this one now a type routine lead with Joe Harris right.
He kept firing from deep.
Three more attempts there in the second half to of a so certainly didn't find his rhythm there, as you were hoping that eight of 15 from the field overall got to the basket.
Nice had eight assists in this game.
So in terms of the evolution of Joe Harris for the Brooklyn Nets, I think we can start to say that he's certainly evolved his game in a little bit.
Excuse me, the glare off my glasses in this one, you know, certainly he's done a nice job of being able, transition his game and be a facilitator of times when you have all your starters out.
Obviously, an opportunity like this for him comes up big.
He was able Thio drive to the basket, dumped off to DeAndre Jordan late there in the fourth quarter as well for an easy look and is this one now sits at 1091 over five within what he once again going back the line 24.
I don't want to be dismissive of the final outcome of this game, assuming that it's in hand, but right now they're basically exchanging some back and forth here.
And in all likelihood, these two shots will make it substantially difficult for the shuttle to come back.
Then we'll be shooting with confidence.
Knocks down the first mark, his 12 and 13 free throw attempts in this game.
So you know Joe again to talk back on Joe Harris plays 35 minutes, shoot eight of 15 from the field, has the four total rebounds, has the eat assist two steals in this game as well, active in the passing lanes as we talked about that being something where you want to see the Nets improved, having some defensive integrity in terms of where they're, you know, trying to make sure you're disallowed passes, not over committing and double teaming or over committing and find yourself out of position.
So he right now is gonna finish with a plus 14 and will lead the team in terms of net ratings.
So very positive performance for him.
I think when you were talking about who's going to be that secondary player behind Spencer and Emily to pick up some of the slack I thing Joe here certainly did that for this team and show that he has the ability to give you an all around game when called upon.
You know the other side of it that we're talking about trying to find the other players who want to highlight.
Certainly Temple giving it to you on the defense's side of the ball.
That's what next plus six rating in this +11 11 +105 by the way, with both free throws going down for Spencer Dinwiddie.
So Temple give me tea on the defensive side of the ball way.
Didn't touch on Jared Allen and goes five or five from the field in and around the basket.
And this one for him.
11 points contributed with two steals, two blocks to assist.
So again, giving that all around game.
When you're talking about being down to your starters and two key scores for your team, you knew that was gonna take a team effort to get through this one.
You know, Theo Pinson gets called into that second unit again now, with Temple going up into the starting rotation and dignity as well.
So Pinson comes in while on 18 minutes for nine from the fuel to a five from downtown gives you three assists.
Contributes with a steel is well, had some turnover trouble, but 10 points kicked in.
You know, you talk about the bench scoring in this.
It was all about having being well balanced open.
Look here from three.
It's a 10 eat 1 11 game, 21 seconds to go, So certainly it's not sewn up just yet.
But with the way Chicago has been treating foul shots for, uh, for buckets here, they found them.
When you get in, people once again go to the line.
You know, theoretically to knock down shots here for dim witted will make it a five point game.
Even a three pointer cut to two.
Back and forth, it will go.
So if Spencer and Emily specifically continue to knock on his free throw shot, that should not be an issue for the Nets to close this one out.
But this is the way, uh, you know, this is the way the N B A goes right late in games.
When you have a tight one, you're looking to keep yourself a part of it.
You certainly will trade the two for potential threes and see if you can get back into it.
Bulls have done that on the last two possessions here, keeping this one close and extending the game.
See how far they can get it here Down three.
At least in Witty, knocking down one of two will keep it a two possession game.
1st 1 straight through, as did what he continues to add to his point total.
Now on 23 13 of 14.
Fromthe line on the other side of the ball.
You know, the Chicago Bulls? They spread around their point totals pretty substantial, and, really, when it comes down to his bench, contributions from both the squad's marketing goes with 13 points.
11 from Hutchinson, Carter Jr.
The big number There was 36 from Zach Levine, but we touched on this in the pregame, right? I mean, he only puts up 23 shots to this point, but certainly had the lion's share of it.
He had White coming off the bench and 13 attempts and only knocking down three of those.
That was certainly a player that if you looked at from Penn standpoint, as another three pole goes down in 9.
5 to play here. Whip.
They won 13 1 11 game quick inbounds to Joe Harris.
He gets found in.
We'll go to the line. Shooting, too.
Looks to be a little bit of the nine seconds to go here in this one.
So if Joe Harris can knock down both of these, they won't again.
May be able to stave this off, but the Chicago Bulls certainly are not making it easy.
And that was Hutchinson, uh, stepping back there and knocking that one down.
Teoh owns a marketing rather on that shot there, knocking it down.
He's only been two of six from the three point territory, but no shot bigger than that one in this game.
And we'll see if Joe Harris now as he banks in that 1st 1 off the back room, he kind of shut this one down here, set into a three point lead.
Right now, if you can knock this down and make it a 4.
4 point game from a time standpoint, it will certainly be difficult for the Bulls to get up the floor, knocking the three pointer and then found again with another opportunity.
Both clean through for Joe hairs.
And as Levine brings this ball up, the court shooting a five seconds on the clock cannot knock it down.
And that will, as they do, commit the foul the same, which is 0.
1 15 1 11 And it looks like that's going to be Spencer doing buddy once again flying in with the rebound.
Sorry about that.
That is actually Garrett Temple. Check back in the game.
So he got the rebound on.
That one is gonna go ahead and down the floor for basically to tack on points here, potentially as the Nets will wrap up this 11 15 to 1 11 potentially 1 17 to 1 11 We will start the transition just into our post game wrap up.
And what we know what we saw from this one A long way.
We've already highlighted a lot of what we saw from the Nets, but on the other side of the ball, like we said, you know, Vivian taking 24 shots, the team attempts 91 in this you have 13 coming from white who only knocks down three of those, the bench scoring for them.
Ah, combined 14 2025 points from the bench while on the other side of the ball for the planned.
Next, you were talking about getting contributions and to the tune of 20 to 29 30 37 points in this one from the bench and the offense on the starting unit.
Rather also showed out and scored right, and you talk about the balance that you want to have it Story on.
Prince Giving You 13 Allen with 11 Didn't Woody 24 Joe Harris knocking down those couple of free throws in the fourth? They're giving himself 24 22.
Rather, And then Temple found those last couple of easy buckets of the line, giving himself 12 in this one ratings across the board in Woody while being neutral.
Overall, you had a long Natori on prints, but plus six for Alan, Joe Harris plus 14 and Garrett Temple plus 10 in this one and then the bench situation.
Interesting first performance for Amman Shumpert, and this one gives you 11 minutes.
A negative net 20 in this game will be interesting to see.
I want to go back and take a little bit more of a look at this and then come back with any type of takeaways that I have from his first performance.
But getting on the court is being a viable body was probably, more than anything of what Kenny Atkinson was looking for in this.
And then as we as we mentioned, you know, Jordan, 26 minutes in this game gave you seven rebounds for assist.
The Forces number is nice.
The five assists from Musa is really good as well.
And then even Nicholas Claxton.
I'm gonna, as I've been saying, Champion him finishes with a plus four rating in this game, had +46 from the field, had, UH, two total rebounds, but also to assess.
So you know, just the ability.
See the court and find the open looks and facilitate some of that offense when you're down.
Starters like we mentioned, gives you an opportunity to certainly have have a balanced and rhythm to your offense, and they get you win.
I'm not gonna overstate beating the Chicago Bulls.
We obviously know that they haven't been a good team to start this year, but for the Brooklyn Nets, finishing out the road trip with a win before they head back home on Monday night to take on the Indiana Pacers has to feel like a positive for them.
And this has a bit of that feel of the Brooklyn Nets games from the last couple of seasons.
Not necessarily a lot stars.
Obviously, we know we have D'Angelo, Russell, maybe a star in the making last season.
But by and large, this is about everyone contributing across the board, meeting players to come in off the bench and give you solid minutes, needing some players to step up from halftime going into the third and fourth quarter and unlike some other games, right out schooling 24 22 in the third and then 43 to 33 in the fourth quarter.
So they were able talk about trend, of having having issues in the second half of games and certainly a team that you know that is young and struggling for Yeah, for the Chicago Bulls, it's, you know, the cure, the cure, the ills when you want to get back on track.
But you know, by and large, I think you take a lot of positives away from this and you could take positive the clacks and gave you 17 minutes using again, struggling a little bit, one for six from three point range.
But overall a lot to be positive about the Nets Overall shot.
45 a half percent, only 23% from beyond the arc, going 10 of 43.
This now makes a little bit of a trend in that direction in terms of those from the struggles they had.
B beyond the arc.
Even with Jo, Hair stinks.
Amore looks here shot very well, 27 to 31 from the line.
On the other side of the bowl, you have the Chicago Bulls only shooting 35% from the field, 23% from downtown on 39 total attempts from beyond the arc.
Again, we knew they took 41 free throw shots, but you know, they limited them.
Certainly in the second half, I think they had 24 in the first half, so you hold them out or 22nd half.
It's not exactly, you know, a marked improvement, but you got a little bit closer in that in that regard, certainly as well, other bigger than we want to look at right turnovers.
The Nets had it in the first half of this 17 in the second half, 15 for the game.
It's pretty much the number that I was calling for the team in his average 20 over the start of this season and in these first handful of games, being able to bring that number down to 15 it's just a nice starting point to try to stay.
There is the cap and then move lowers as you go further into the season and the other side of the ball.
You have a Chicago committing 19 turnovers, and I think four or five of those came early in the fourth quarter as well.
And a couple of those were not just collapses on the offensive side of the bowl first of the Chicago Bulls, but it was active hands.
You had your hair's get his hands on one of them.
You think, DeAndre Jordan, forcing a turnover in the lane.
There you had Temple get active at one point as well, so you know the takeaways have to go beyond just a team, making some mistakes and giving you some free points.
If it is also the active defense that is helping contribute to those.
It's definitely a positive takeaway as well and trying to see this.
Anything else, really, that gleam here on this one before we get out of here? Ultimately, as they like to say, a win is a win, and it was.
They head back home now for a stretch of games you can certainly look to hopefully build on.
This success will be checking in and seeing what the issues are for Kyrie Irving.
And if the shoulder is going to be something that you anticipate the need to manage the least in the short term, or if it's going to something that's going to be just an issue throughout the season and they're gonna have to manages minutes, manages workloads and maybe give him some off nights on back to backs.
If you've been following the podcast, you know that Doug Norrie and I have talked about his team's success from where they can plan to go this year.
In spite of this win, you know, the Nets are without now Caris Levert for several weeks.
That's gonna impact their win totals now, maybe, with Kyrie Irving having some potential issues you have to start to wonder, how is it going to hurt their bottom line and in a competitive Eastern Conference? Are they going to face any issues as it comes to making a playoff seeding where they want to go? It's not a negative to be learning things early in the year, but as of right now, you sit here.
You know, he said, You're below 500 by handful of games.
You know that you're going back to a home stretch, and that will actually be the last thing that will touch on before we do get out of here is going to be the schedule coming up for them and where we kind of think they can head from here.
You know, they get themselves the five and seven, right? So you're you know, you're five and seven, your two games under, and now you're gonna head in.
You have the Indiana Pacers coming up.
Next is the home game.
We already mentioned that beyond them.
So then play at home, the Charlotte Hornets at home.
The Sacramento Kings will have a away game quote unquote, but across town to MSG to take on the New York Knicks, and then you'll go on the road for the Cleveland Cavaliers for doing an away game home and home with the Boston Celtics.
So I would talk about the Boston Celtics game right there.
We're gonna be the ones really can get a split.
You know you're gonna be applying a playoff caliber team will be a good one to gauge yourself by.
But over these next, what adds up to five games, your five and seven Pacers should be a challenge there.
Obviously working to through some of their at least early season stuff will have to take a look, as this was a game that they had lost 1 18 toe.
108 back on October 30th.
Opportunity at home to get some revenge there.
Look at the Charlotte Hornets Sacramento Kings in New York next, the Cleveland Cavalier.
They're all winnable games, quote unquote.
So you should be looking at an opportunity that when you come back around on November 20 knighted to have that home game against the Boston Celtics.
Even if you were to lose on the road in Boston, I would anticipate the Nets.
I am the idea of going what 34 and 24 and two over the next six would probably make sense for them, at which point you find yourself at 99 back to 500 then when you're really talking about something that Doug and I talked about in the podcast as well is just fine.
Trying to find those stretches within the schedule that you could get a net positive.
Go for foreign, too, you know, 125 and one over six game stretch something along those lines, and we'll look at the back end of the schedule as we have highlighted in the preseason for the Nets, where they can start to maybe stack up a handful of victories, get themselves when they need to be.
But one of the things this team wants to avoid and we're talking big picture here, obviously, is having to pay play meaningful games down the stretch.
You want to arrest him, guys, get everyone healthy, prepare for the playoffs.
So that's why that's where when you see you know over 10% of the way through this season, you need to see some of the progress we need to see stability and certainly the carrots.
Libert injury throws a wrench into that.
But by and far I've been really excited about what I've seen from the guy.
They're coming, and placing them will be curious to see how Amon Trump works himself into this rotation.
And again, Nicholas Claxton, I think, being a bit of an X factor here, if you're going to have issues with depth, he may need to be a player that by the mid point this season, heading into the second half of this season, is maybe stepping up as being a guy that you can plug in for what you thought you were gonna get from Kourou.
Kes, you know this? That that's a big question mark for this team right now.
You said at the start of the year that this would be a roster led by Kyrie Irving with Joe Harris knocking down the three bowl.
William Prince give you more athleticism than you have from tomorrow, Carol, maybe next year.
You know, last year you got the same thing on the defensive side of the ball, but, you know, kooks was kind of being penciled in this.
Yeah, he'll take that next step.
If you so can take a little bit of a leap here, and that will certainly be, you know, an apples for Apple's kind of scenario.
But you have to start to identify rolls and continue figure out where you're gonna get consistency from.
And this was an opportunity for Kenny Atkinson to remind everyone of why he's one of the better coaches in the league of why he can make you know great and game adjustments.
And ah, and they accomplished that in this one.
I'm taking a look just over the last couple of notes that I had listed down here.
I want to make sure that we talk about anything, uh, mentioned the pesky defense.
Certainly, by the way, speaking of Tory on Prince, he had an insane Kyrie esque up and under hard English off the glass for a bucket in the fourth quarter.
There, that was just a mind blower.
I don't even know if he knew that he had that in his repertoire, but that was certainly just a new impressive bucket to see get made again.
We talked about actually that fourth quarter as well, when the game was within about four points shot from the perimeter goes flying off.
The back goes high off the rain comes back out.
Joe Harris rises up within, you know intern Aranda.
Few Chicago Bulls grabs a rebound.
Goes right back up, up and under.
Gets the bucket.
So I think in terms that all around game, maybe Joe Harris is taking a step in a new direction.
That as a fan, we need to start to recalibrate what we expect.
Just on the night tonight, Pieces again still point to the three point shot and say that this is the cornerstone of his game.
But I think he's shown a great job of being able to give you some other options when he's on the floor in a game where you want it for 15 to of it from beyond the arc.
So you're talking about taking with the three point shots.
He ended up shooting of six of seven from the field.
These are mid range jumpers, veteran shot in the lane, just watching the highlight that rebound and put back by him.
So you know if that's gonna be a part of this game that give you consistently at the end of the day, the stat line that give you 20 points in this 1 22 points in this game is something you'll sign up for a game in and game out beyond that stupid hat to the bench for certainly doing a solid job.
And we also saw Prince on Dolan, who had forced the shot clock violation in the fourth quarter.
There is, they're trying to rotate it back out to get a three point attempt.
Oppa's well, those are a couple of the notes that I thought were really effective in terms of this team starting to get a little bit of a defensive identity and overall, holding a team 211 points.
I don't know if you'd call it holding them, but it's certainly below their season average and trending in the right direction.
