Hey, everybody, welcome in and I'm gonna be chatting a little bit about Lakers versus Heat here.
The game is on right now.
We're gonna talk about it as the game goes.
Danny Green just had the three.
So gotta love that.
I'm coming in just a minute late here, but the Lakers are off to a great start.
11 to what? I'm gonna go ahead now and do is send this out on Twitter.
Somebody can come in and join us for anybody who's in already to say Come join me live.
Are Lakers Nation second screen experience.
Okay, sending that out right now and I'll retweet it from the big Lakers nation Account my accounts.
Not bad, but this gets Ah, it's a bit more traction there.
Alright, there we go.
Notes will send out.
Nice start for the Lakers right now.
Lakers air up 11 to 2.
Gotta love that.
I mean, we've been talking about their slow starts.
In fact, I just sent out some stats on Twitter earlier today about about how this Lakersstarting unit of evil Bradley and we've got Danny Green up there.
LeBron James and a D and Drill McGee have been off the terrible starts the first quarter.
It has not been good at all.
In fact, they've been in first quarters.
They've been in net rating, which is per 100 possessions.
They've been a minus 18 and change.
Yeah, that's that's not good at all.
That's horrifically bad for a starting unit to do that.
So to see them jump out to 11 to 2 lead the first time in three minutes into the game, that's significant.
That's important here for this Lakers team.
That thes starters show that they can do this.
Show that they can, um, go ahead and Gaming League hopefully keep a lead.
Because what we've seen in the last few games for the Lakers is they've had to battle back.
We've watched them just kind of stick around through the first half again.
In fact, against the Bulls was LeBron James quite a bit.
That was keeping them in the game.
And now if they can keep up the run like this, 11 to 2, maybe they can actually play from ahead, for a change would be nice.
No, look, Miami is a really good team.
So I'm not expecting this to happen.
The entire game Miami is is a good team.
They're playing on the second night of back to back.
They just beat the Phoenix Suns last night, but maybe some tired legs here, although it's kind of early in the season for that at Mr Mr 805 Bradley is so money from the key.
Yeah, look, Bradley is starting on Dwayne Wade's there.
Bradley is starting to really get that mid range game going, so that's an exciting thing, because the mid range is kind of a lost art.
In some ways, it's something that not many people are stressing anymore.
As the NBA's becoming more and more of a three free throws and lay ups lead league.
Nobody wants that mid range shot anymore.
In fact, teams their defense is air set up to allow the midrange shot.
So would that be in the case? If you could be really efficient at the mid range because the mid range shot is you generate more points per possession shooting from just about anywhere else.
But if you could be really efficient at it than the mid range is a perfectly fine shot there's nothing wrong with it.
So if Avery Bradley is gonna get those little curls and those openings there from, say, 15 feet and he could knock him down a high clip, why not? You let him take those all day? If he is making them officially, then it's an efficient scoring opportunity for them right now.
So far, Lakers defense looking good.
They're closing out on shooters, doing a nice job.
You know, Jimmy Butler's gonna have something to say before the night is over.
Even Bradley Man, he looks fired up again off the dribble.
Avery Bradley scoring.
By the way, let's let's discuss this real quick.
So why SportsCastr? The post game show? We do live way.
Stream it on periscope.
Jess King and I.
We stream it on periscope.
It's on Facebook live.
It's on YouTube, right? We sent it to all those big platforms.
Why are we using SportsCastr for this? Well, it's because SportsCastr has a very, very low delay.
It's like a second or two.
So what I'm seeing as the game's going on you're seeing just a few seconds before me.
There isn't much of a delay where his Facebook could be a 32nd toe a minute DeLay, depending on how many people are in watching at the same time.
So that's kind of a challenge, right? When you're watching something live, you can't really do that.
I can't be a minute ahead of you in terms of the game because whatever I'm talking about going on, who will make any sense to you.
So SportsCastr did a really nice job with that lag time, and so it's kind of built for for this.
I've used it before the past few months, but I think we're gonna be doing it.
Maur using it for for this purpose.
To be able to come in and shot with fans and, um, and watch games live because it's it's a lot of fun to be able to watch live basketball like this.
So, guys, if you're joining me right now, hop it in fire After questions, fire of your comments, let me know what you guys think about the game.
I said, Miami is a good team.
They're coming back.
Couple of buckets here from Jimmy Butler just had a nice up and under on JaVale McGee Jail coming right back, though.
Nice up in under for out of his own, but gets twice.
Come on. We gotta finish those, man.
Yeah, he's shaking his head.
Gotta finish that. JaVale McGee.
And again, Butler, with this nice up and under jail did what he could there, not a whole lot else he can do.
The Lakers have really gotta prevent transition opportunities because right now they're 29th in the league, giving up transition points.
That's been sort of an Achilles heel of theirs.
And so that's something they're gonna need to work on.
They need to get better at their transition defense.
I mean, just getting guys back there.
Not a particularly quick team, But still, they need to make a conscious effort to get back and not alone.
A lot of those fast break buckets.
There's Jimmy Butler taking a mid range.
Didn't hit on that.
Let's see what the Lakers can get here.
Going early to Anthony.
Look, Anthony Davis matched up with Meyers Leonard.
He hit the fade away jumper.
You almost hate to see him take that fade away because he's missed those so often this season.
But the thing is If you are dealing with the defender, you've got Meyers Leonard on you.
Now he's got to think about you taking that jumper and he's got to play a little bit closer.
So next time, maybe he's going to be taken.
Gonna be able to take him off the dribble and drive to the basket so well, I don't like seeing that fadeaway jumper.
I thought that one was a lot better than some of the other ones we've seen.
And that one he was.
He had his feet set, shoulders square.
We've seen some of these where he's kind of like falling off one leg trying to do the Dirk shot.
But it's it's It's definitely not Dirk as long as he's doing it.
Like we saw him do here with my buyers letter, which, by the way, great ball handling skills where he gets his shoulders square.
He's not fading so far away that he's that he's way off balance or anything like that.
I think I'm okay with that shot there.
By the way, guys, thank you for coming in.
Thank you for joining me here as we're ah were taken in this game.
Hopefully this is gonna be a good one for, Ah, for your Los Angeles Lakers. Should be.
Should be exciting if nothing else, because this is a good team.
I think this is probably the biggest test for the Lakers since that game against the Utah Jazz.
My name is a good team.
They're better than I thought they would be.
They've got some solid role players around.
Jimmy Butler, Bam! Out of bio has been good.
They've got a lot of guys who really know how to get out there and play basketball.
So I'm excited to see how the Lakers respond to this.
Hopefully, this is one where they can.
We can really see the best of them and see them play a full game.
Because we haven't seen that so far.
We really haven't.
We haven't seen a full 48 minutes from the Lakers at this point.
Hey, there you go.
Three from LeBron James Gotta like that.
Gotta like that Big three from LeBron Lakers up 18 88 and 80 coming into making the play on the on the backside there, doing a nice job enjoying what I've seen from this team so far right now they look like they're sharp.
Let's hope that continues.
Gonna make up some.
This is what the concern Everybody did a nice job getting back.
Committing the foul before shot could happen there.
But those turnovers can be a killer for this Lakers team.
Transition buckets are not not good.
Definitely not good at all.
So let's see what this matchup looks like here.
It's gonna be heat ball.
Kyle Kuzma comes in.
I don't know if I like Cruz was new hairstyle.
I won't tell him that, but I don't know, kind of the older look better.
So, LeBron, you've got KCP in there for Avery Bradley makes Adds Avery Bradley.
I mean, just coming back from injury, Probably not gonna want to push him too far here.
Ah, and Cruz moves.
So this is a kind of a mini death lineup here.
You'd probably include another guard out there.
That's not KCP most of the time closing out the game, but now you've got a D at the five.
This could be a very, very potent offensive groups.
I'm curious to see what they can get going here.
I got a three for Kuzma.
Good look, though.
And that's the kind of look that you're not going to get when you've got the other center out there on the floor.
Whether it's Dwight Howard or JaVale McGee, you're not gonna get that scoring opportunity there.
Koosman just needs to be able to knock that down.
Okay, C p just air ball, the lay up.
I know people aren't KCP fans, but air balling away.
It isn't gonna make it work.
That's that's good.
That's not gonna win fans over KCP.
Do you get fouled or something? Hopefully, no.
I mean the block was coming in, so I get it.
But still, that's not gonna win him anybody over.
You know what he KCP He's a better player than what we've seen.
He's a better player than this right now.
Then what? We saw the first few games like he's not great.
He's just an average eh NBA player.
That's that's what he is.
There's nothing wrong with that.
You could say he's getting paid a lot too much in the ladies.
You can put him out there.
Ah, He's not as bad as what we saw.
He can provide some good things for these Lakers as we just happen in joining.
I say We got a few more people coming in here.
Get appreciate you guys joining me and let's talk someone Lakers basketball as we go Firehouse and comments if you want, and we'll talk through it.
And simple stuff.
They're a nice little pin down screen from Anthony Davis generates an open three for Danny Green.
Whose mom misses it.
Three point percentage has got to get there right now.
The Lakers are only shooting.
I want to say there were 25th in the league and three point percentage, just over 30%.
That's not good enough with the number of shooters they got.
And now they just got killed on a nice little cut from Gordon Dragic, who got a layup out of it.
Those three balls have gotta start dropping here for the Lakers. LeBron.
Right now, they're two of eight from deep 2028%.
That's not that's not 20%.
ESPN percentages are off, but yes oh there right now, 25% from three is not gonna work.
Obviously small sample size.
I think they'll hit some or moving forward.
But you like to see them connecting on some of their threes, at least Ah, heading into the future here, they need to start connected on those sooner rather than later.
Because right now I'm getting a little bit worried about their shooting like that was the big thing.
That was what they were supposed to have really improved upon this offseason.
Was there shooter shooting because they brought in Danny Green.
They brought in Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels and all these players.
And and you've got Casey Peak and hit on Mancuso.
We thought was gonna was gonna hit him at a higher rate to and that could still happen.
I can definitely still happen.
But right now we're just not seeing it.
And if this team's gonna hit the next level, which they can don't get me wrong there already. Good.
But they can hit another level.
Part of that is gonna be making these threes, so I'm not super concerned as of this moment, but it's something to keep an eye on keep an eye on the three point shooting.
Hopefully that that will eventually start paying off here.
Greg Berman over on.
Ah, hon, Twitter saying Air balling a layup.
One way to get the fans huffy.
KCP saying the same thing I was.
KCP makes some some big mistakes, that's for sure.
And people tweeting at me about Casey Piece, missed bits, layup airball.
Not a good way to go about it. No, thank you.
We've got to make sure that we're hitting those, uh, bottom line.
Just checking in on the stats, though.
Here, look here.
Only shoot 27% from the field.
That's not gonna happen. All game.
Lakers shooting 47% on Lee, up 18 to 12.
Why? Let's look and see.
Well, two turnovers for the Lakers, but four towers from Miami.
So where they given up the extra points free throw line? Looks like no free throws so far for the Lakers.
Four free throws for Miami.
They've hit them all, and the Lakers are winning the battle of the boards.
Yes, so it's pretty much the free throw line right now that he's keeping Miami right there in this thing, otherwise, based on shooting percentage based on the number of looks they've had, the Lakers should be up by quite a bit.
But right now, the free throws air kind of keeping the Miami Heat in this thing and turnovers are helping them, too.
Five fouls so far on the Lakers.
No fouls on the Miami Heat.
So I had something to keep an eye on. Two.
Could be an issue. Move forward.
Anybody in felt terrible.
Avery Bradley has to.
I didn't realize he had tubes, so that's why they pulled him out there in the first quarter.
Midway through, and they went with KCP.
Dwight Howard fired up what we're seeing on the replay here.
I'm catching the N B A TV broadcast right now, so join ours.
He's getting teammates going.
What do you want? What can we say about Dwight Howard? This is un riel that we're getting this level Dwight Howard right now that not only is he playing well on the floor, but like he's being a great teammate and we've seen that like he's in doing the dirty work, boxing out, setting screens, hitting the boards all that kind of stuff.
He's having fun, and I don't think that I would have done this.
Who's my travel turnover? I don't think that I would have done this just couple years ago.
He would have been pouting, would have been upset about not getting post touches and things like that.
I hope he's really turned a leaf turning to leave here because maybe he had to be humbled.
Maybe that's what it's up because right now we're seeing everything great out of Dwight.
His personality is attitude, his play on the court, all of it's been great.
Okay, see, this is the problem now, with the Lakers picking up those five early fouls now they're sending the guys to the free throw line.
Looks like it's Tyler hero.
It's gonna go there for little touch fouls on the perimeter 30 feet away from the basket.
That that's where Miami's gonna keep close to this thing.
The free throw line Right now, The Lakers were gonna give up kind of some of the run that they've had by letting the Heat get to the free throw line and convert from there, and LeBron's coming out.
Braun getting a little bit of ah rest here.
Hopefully, he's not in felt terrible to me. Check on that.
No, just one foul.
But LeBron typically subs out right around this time of the first, they've been letting Anthony Davis play the entire first quarter.
I don't know. I think that's a lot.
I think that usually by the end of the first quarter eighties, kind of dragging.
So I don't know if maybe they adjust to that at some point.
But for right now, this is what they're going with.
Nice ball movement there from Lakers.
But the minute he didn't really, they're good defensive team, their fourth in the N B A. In defensive rating.
That's what they do.
They did nice job closing out on shooters about Cosmo.
You probably should have taken there, but they didn't.
I craftiness from Dragic two point game.
The Lakers lead is pretty much evaporated there.
I've office, um, miss shots, some turnovers and letting the Heat get to the free throw line.
But because the Lakers Aaron fell trouble, so this big lead is already pretty much gone.
They could have.
It's nice having Anthony Davis on your team.
Quinn Cook misses the three eighty's just there for the tip dunk.
It's just bigger, stronger than everybody else's arms airway longer than everybody else.
It's he's incredible.
Well, I was talking about this the other day with How is that a felon, Danny Green.
Jimmy Butler gets an and one, and it looks like Miami's gonna pull with them one here on the three, but on a three point play.
So we were talking about this.
So Anthony Davis, we always knew he was good, right? Like we've seen enough pelicans games and everything to know he's a good player.
But the Pelicans were a team that you go like seek out there with a team that on a random Wednesday night, you go try to find on league past or anything like that.
They weren't that squad.
You know, you watching Anthony Davis what, 10 15 times a season? Maybe Maybe now, seeing him on a nightly basis, I've got a much greater appreciation for just how good he is.
I mean, I always thought he was pretty incredible, but to see it on nightly basis, you can see how and why He is so good a coup.
Zma Guzman grabs the ball on the cylinder.
I think that might have dropped in any way had he not touched it, but hard to lay off that I wouldn't know.
I've never gotten out that high, but, yeah, it looks like the replay that would have gone and Anthony Davis had the up and under, and Cosmo just hits the ball wants on the rim.
Tough to lay off of that, but But that hurts.
That would have been a bucket.
Cruz was already had a few turnovers.
He looks really good at the end of the last game.
Looked really good closing out the Chicago Bulls, but so far, not such a great state from from cruise mode tonight.
Gay guys were going to fire any comments, anything like that.
As the game goes on, you know we'll have a little discussion going back and forth here.
The Lakers remove the ball, but they're getting nothing from it right now.
The Miami Heat's defense is doing a good job.
There you go, Caruso.
Okay, So what was happening? The Lakers repented the ball around the perimeter.
That is pinging it, doing everything they can to get the defense to rotate.
But they needed somebody to be aggressive there and finally make the move.
Caruso was able to get into the paint, force the defense to make a decision, and then that led to an open dunk for for 80.
That's what you need it.
You needed somebody to finally just put their head down and go.
The Lakers spent so much time trying to find an opening.
Sometimes you just gotta make it happen.
And Caruso did that credit to him there for figuring out what needed to take place in order for the Lakers to break down this defense.
So far, though, again I've been impressed by the Miami Heat defense.
They've done a really nice job closing out of the Lakers, staying in front, making every shot tough.
And that's how they've been a good team this season is when they're with their defense.
So these are two of the better defensive teams in the N B A.
Right now, they're going at it, so you're going to see some high level defense on both sides.
The ball. So 20 to 19 in the first quarter.
I'm not surprised.
I'm not expecting 40 point quarters or 45 point quarters, everything.
Anything like this.
This is gonna be a defense if grit and grind battle on both sides.
So it's gonna be interesting to see exactly how the Lakers respond to the kind of pressure and I think that they're gonna have here in this game.
Tyler hero has been a pretty good rookie for the Miami Heat.
By the way, guys, we just release these shirts again on the Lakers nation dot com store.
So if you want your own l a brown shirt, head over the Lakers nation dot com store, you can get one there.
Pat Riley in the stands.
So right now the Lakers have on the floor.
Still have Anthony Davis.
You've got Cal, Cosma, KCP Quinn Cook and Alex Caruso.
Plenty of shooting.
I do worry a little bit of the defensive side with cocaine, kcp, but let's see if they could make a run here on the offensive end.
Sideline out of bounds where they run ball goes to Kuzma shot clock winding down Cruz.
My had to jack up the three.
Fortunately, you've got Oh, okay.
See, I try to be impartial.
I try to be unbiased and all. I kind of stopped.
I can't I can't hide it.
I grew up a Lakers fan.
This is This is the team that I grew up on.
This team I love, no question.
So like seeing Captain America.
So just throw down a two handed dunk in traffic in the pain.
It that makes me happy.
It's always It's always fun seeing a guy like him who battled his way up from Julie Quinn Coat.
Same thing. Battle his way up from the G League.
I love seeing those kind of, you know, underdog stories.
A lot of fun with a guy like that can find success on your team.
Legal defense there.
So let's see how he got that again.
Caruso Just being aggressive, making the right cut at the right time, waiting for the Miami Heat defense to show some cracks, and any manages to get a dunk out of it.
Smart play by Carusone again.
Dwight Howard going crazy on the bench because now Dwight Howard is the team, the team energy guy both on and off the floor.
Anthony Davis taking the free throws.
And what about the guards? Feel about that? Anthony Davis takes the technical free throws.
Big guards usually get that job.
They get the extra points at it in there.
But maybe he shot what, 80% or so for his career from the free throw line.
So not a bad thing.
He could certainly knock him down.
There you go again, breaking down that zone, finding a D in the middle, Get the boat like it's It's very sit like the N B A game can be extremely complicated at times.
They can run some crazy things, but it's also very simple.
Like what do you tell teams? How do you break down a zone? You are you able to You're getting into the paint and you're forcing to collapse.
And that's exactly what the Lakers have done here.
And a This is what they're good at.
This is what they're good at.
The Lakers score points in the paint.
They're one of the better teams at scoring points in the paint in the entire league.
They're also really good at protecting the pain, so on one hands.
If you're Miami because you think you're going to stop them there.
But if you're his own breaks down at any point, you know the Lakers gonna score on you If they can get in there and get between the seems they can make life really difficult on you.
So shot clock off.
Lakers up now, 28 21 you can see the score at the top of the screen.
Well, on TV, it's 28 on here and other we go.
They just kicked it in here on Ah, SportsCastr as well.
I turned over Quinn Cook.
That's not what you want.
Eighties Upset. He's tell them. Quinn. Quinn, Cook.
One shot, one shot.
He threw a lot to Anthony Davis with 11 seconds on the clock.
So now Miami's gonna have 9.
6 seconds to do something with the ball and score.
That's a big mistake There.
You want to take the last shot? You didn't want to try to force something.
Coach Frank Vogel is not gonna be happy, especially in Miami.
Comes down and scores here.
So, Quinn, cook better place.
Um, good defense.
There we go. 81.
And in fact, the Tyler hero shot.
The Lakers escaped, but again, they should have got a look.
There. They should help for the last shot, and they didn't.
So that wasn't smart.
Basketball, 28 to 21 at the end of the first.
So far, so good again.
They started off a lot of winning 11 to 2 Miami battle back.
But the Lakers have done what they need to do in order to make this, um, this game of wind.
So far, the Lakers haven't been able to ah, finish for the first quarter with a lead very often.
So that's been This is a kind of a minor victory here for them to be able to be up at the end of the first and up.
Chris Magee for Spectrum Sports Nets tweeting out Caruso banging on fools.
Yeah, if you missed our last Lakers Nation podcast, Chris McGee was our guest on there. He's awesome.
Great guy does an amazing job over its spectrum.
You guys aren't following.
You can follow him at Gator three on Twitter.
So taking a quick look at some of the stats here, we've got Anthony Davis is perfect five from five for the field, two blocks to Steele's 12 points.
Last game was a LeBron games.
So far, this feels like an a d a M.
Certainly seems like it.
LeBron James, one of three to assist three points 80 clearly leading the way with those 12.
Avery Bradley. Six points on three or four shooting.
He looked really good.
You really look great out there, but again, two fouls.
So that's something to keep an eye on.
Danny Green. Two fouls as well.
Could think the Lakers do have some backcourt depth, but those two guys, they need them to stay out of foul trouble because they're gonna need them on the defensive end of the floor.
Kyle Kuzma o of three.
All three of the shots were threes.
I thought he's made some harm.
Poor decisions out there on the floor.
One board that's not not good from Crucible, but again, he's still working his way back.
KCP oh, for two from the field, including an air balled lamp.
Not not gonna work there.
Kcp Alex Caruso.
One for one. But that one was amazing.
Cutting down the lane to Anna Doug.
We will take that.
One for three with a block, three boards.
No minutes yet for Dwight Howard, but I'm sure that is coming.
As soon as Anthony Davis comes out, we're probably gonna see Dwight Howard going into the game.
I do want to Seymour of this a d at the five with cruise mode on the floor lineup with shooters around them.
I think there's something to that.
I think it could be interesting if it was okay here to end the first quarter, but I would like to see some more of that.
So if right Vogel is gonna finish his or continue his substitution patterns that we've seen recently, that would mean a D goes to the bench bench here at the end of the first.
And then we'll see LeBron eventually coming back.
But we'll see some non LeBron on 80 minutes here, and it looks like you went back to LeBron.
So maybe he's saving those non LeBron 9 80 minutes for the middle of the second quarter.
But right now LeBron is out there and in fact, just Mr Schott.
Dwight is indeed out there on the floor now that Edie is off the court and you've got crews him out there as well.
Dwight LeBron and Kuzma, along with KCP and Alex Caruso.
He's in defensive potential there.
LeBron directing traffic Man, Look at that close out.
LeBron closing out to the ball.
It's been incredible.
The difference this season compared to last season.
The speed, the explosiveness that he has when he gets too close outs.
He changed, changed that entire defensive possession and help get that stop catch.
That makes such a difference for the Lakers.
When he could do things like that.
That's he's a big part of wide like Anthony Davis has made a huge difference, but LeBron James has also been on a different level defensively than what we saw last season.
Gay guys thinks those you're coming in joining as we're chatting, watching a little Lakers basketball.
Don't forget, we will have the postgame show coming on right after the game.
Jazz Kang and I will be live.
I'll probably do this this live stream through the first half here.
LeBron attacking the basket can't get it to drop, though it doesn't feel like a LeBron game just yet, although right now I mean, you can get going in a in an instant.
Takes nothing to get him going.
So who knows what he's gonna end up with? But right now, this is coming across like a like a nadie game instead of a LeBron game.
Doesn't seem like he's got everything working right now, as they say that he fumbles the ball out of bounds.
Hasn't been a great night for LeBron just yet, But again, he's so good.
Sooner rather than later, I'm sure he's gonna do something incredible.
It looks like a travel there.
Took three steps into that shot for ah Robinson, but he did knock down three.
So four point Lakers lead.
Now LeBron out there setting screens for Caruso.
LeBron for three. Note.
Passed it. Given Go.
Maybe that'll get LeBron going.
Nice two handed jam on a great give and go with Alex Caruso.
Go like that Teamwork.
Dwight Trying to defend on the perimeter.
Oh my Goran Dragic.
That was a nice move.
Fortunately, he didn't make it.
Fortunately for the Lakers didn't make it.
Okay, so, Alex so Kaku asthma just hit Alex Caruso on a great cut.
Caruso is a wonderful cutter.
When he doesn't, he waits for the defender turn that turned their head.
And then he takes off towards the basket.
No, they're three for Miami, Tyler hero this time, but Cosmo's ability to pick the ball up on the fly and hit Crusoe in stride.
He is a better pastor, especially in the paint, than people give him credit for.
Kyle Kuba really can pass the basketball.
KCP shoots a three Mrs grown from Lakers fans there.
Tyler here was gonna shoot another three airballs.
This one more of those, please, Tyler.
Here, Amore hero ball.
So we got one more.
Look at the passing for the Lakers.
Passing all the way around the perimeter.
Inside, outside, Back inside For a lab for Cobb Koosman.
Man, the Lakers are really moving the ball tonight.
I think the heat going to that zone kind of got them in that mindset of moving the basketball because we saw them moving the ball around the perimeter to break his own.
And now they're really just passing, passing, passing, passing.
Oh, man, no, He's guarding Dwight underneath.
Why? It was wide open underneath for a alley oop dunk, and he missed a dunk with no hunt on him.
He's gonna be one that one back, that's for sure.
Have the passing has been incredible.
They're highlighting it right now on inspector minutes.
Yeah, they're passings.
Been great if, as I say, that Cruise mob has a terrible past, throws the ball straight to Miami breakaway dunk, I think he thought Dwight was going to step through the ball instead.
Why it was cutting back three turnovers now for Kyle Kuzma.
Been a shaky performance for him, no doubt been a shaky performance.
It's the turnovers that are keeping Miami in this game.
The Lakers are out playing the Heat by a lot right now.
This doesn't look like two teams that are on the same level, but they're turning the ball over enough.
Dwight gets called for a foul here on a rebound.
I don't know if he actually fell.
That looked like it was a pretty tough call, just a poor play by Koosman to throw that.
He needs to see that coming without a bio, you know, that's what he does.
Bam is really good at shooting those passing lanes and getting steals.
The Lakers are up.
Five defense needs dig in, and the offense just needs to clean things up a little bit.
And the defense didn't rotate over on that.
Looked like it was KCP that should have gone down to take the cutter.
Frank Vogel isn't like and what it's seeing, so is calling timeout and good for him.
And you should, because right now, with some little things are making a big difference.
Little turnovers here and there.
KCP didn't come over to take the roll, Man.
Looks like Dwight thought that's what was going to happen.
Easy bucket for Miami.
That's where you can see this is a new team.
It's moments like that when you see the like of chemistry.
It's moments like that when you see Oh, yeah, this is a team with a lot of new faces that I haven't played a lot together.
Um, hopefully doesn't cost him to get some of the better teams.
That's gonna be a problem.
Like Miami is not going away.
Miami's gonna capitalize on moments like that.
They're gonna do everything they can to stay in this game and stop the Lakers from blowing this thing out against the Bulls.
You could probably get away with that stuff.
Get some of the weaker teams you could do That gets Miami.
They're gonna punish you every time.
So the Lakers have got to clean this up and clean up quickly.
So I'm interested.
Interested to see what adjustments Frank Vogel makes? I wonder if he makes a sub here.
Changes somebody out because right now, something just isn't clicking.
They're just turning the ball over A lot.
Hasn't been pretty, so I'm curious to see what Frank Vogel does here.
Somebody just tweeted at me.
Would someone please tell me how KCP talked his way into another year with the Lakers again? Casey Casey P is an average, eh? NBA player.
He can fill some backup minutes at shooting at you.
Ask him to do too much and you're going to tell that he's a backup player.
You ask him to defend Kawai.
Leonard, you're asking for trouble.
You ask him to create out of the pick and roll? No.
If you ask him to just spot up from three place in pesky defense and occasionally attacked the basket off the bounce.
He can do those things well, at an okay level at an average level.
He's just not just you have to accept what he is.
He's not gonna be a great player.
He's not the guy who's gonna win you a bunch of games or anything.
But he can eat up some minutes with some decent play at the shooting guard spot Right now, the other Lakers guards who would step into shooting guard are in foul trouble.
They both have to foul. So that's why he's getting these minutes.
Um, but yes, I get it when KCP mrs there's moans and groans, because what? We've seen a lot of mistakes from him this season.
So it becomes amplified.
The more mistakes that he makes, the bigger of an issue it becomes the more people really Chiana wears right now, like Dwight just made a mistake, you just blew it on an alley oop dunk.
If that was KCP, people will be losing their minds.
But because Dwight's been playing really well, he gets that kind of leeway.
He gets that leeway to to ah to make a mistake every now and then.
So that's something to consider here.
KCP is going to make mistakes. So is Dwight.
LeBron's gonna make mistakes. They all are.
The question is, can Casey be cut down on the mistakes? That's what we're looking to see.
Can he start playing? At least on average level? All right, so let's see what we've got here.
Karl Kruse was still on the floor.
We're gonna give him a chance to shake off this rust.
It's the same group. Let's see what they're running here.
No changes, looks like whatever their first option is.
They got the ball into the paint.
So they use LeBron in the high post there in order to get the ball in the middle and uses passing a kick out.
Eventually, it's a 21 of the 24 seconds to get the ball over to ah, to Caruso for three.
Miami did a nice job closing out.
That is, that's not the look that they wanted.
That's not what they want to see their.
I think it just took them too long to get the ball into the middle of the paint to LeBron to figure that out.
And, ah, that's what costume there in that possession again vocals.
Probably not happy with the way that played out after you just called the time out to set that up.
Crewson do a nice job chasing defensively, LeBron closing up.
That's way too much space there on that open three.
Miami's definitely picking things up here.
They're doing everything they can to describe and call their way up here in this game, which should be expected.
This isn't a team that's gonna go away, so let's see again. They find LeBron.
Actually, LeBron can just turn and take the little 10 footer right there.
I think he didn't realize how open he was in the middle, but clearly the Lakers planned in order to beat this is to find LeBron in the middle of floor.
But right now they're they're turning the ball over.
They're missing their threes, and that's leading the long rebounds and run outs from Miami.
Koosman for three.
Much needed much needed the Lakers.
Look, they're getting the looks right now.
They're getting open shots from deep.
They just have to knock him down.
So far, they haven't been two for 13.
Now, three for 14 have to be able to connect at a higher percentage of that good defense there on the perimeter.
That's something that we need to see from him is his ability to defend on the perimeter because he's probably gonna have to do a lot of defending against Wings this season.
Lakers don't really have a whole lot of wing defenders, quite setting the high screen role.
We got another open three.
So Miami is basically giving the Lakers threes.
They're giving them to him.
It's only taking one pass or one dribble penetration to create an open three for the Lakers, right that their three for 15 shooting from deep.
So as long as they continue shooting at that level, Miami's gonna continue giving up the open threes.
They have to start knocking those down.
Otherwise, they are wasting this advantage that they're finding They're doing a great job finding the open shot, but they've gotta knock him down Now.
It's a one point game after Drudging knocked down another shot again, this game shouldn't be close right now.
It shouldn't three for 15 from the three for the Lakers.
Ah, that's the problem right now.
That's the big issue for them again.
They should be up double digits right now with the Open looks that they're getting.
But they're not because they're not knocking down shots, 42% shooting overall, which is fine.
But again, Miami is giving you three point looks, their gift wrapping them to the Lakers into the Lakers. Credit.
They're doing a great job finding them and exploiting that and taking the shot.
But the shot just hasn't fallen right now.
Biggest defender right now.
KCP over three from three coups, was one of four day green, one for three over one from Caruso for one from Quinn Cook LeBron one for two.
So basically, LeBron at one for two is the only guys shooting threes at an acceptable percentage.
Right now, at this moment and again, this team has had shooters, so I think small sample size.
I think ultimately, if Miami keeps giving them these looks at some point, they're going to start knocking down.
And then we're going to see this game swing because right now again, I think the Lakers are out playing Miami.
Miami is generating some decent looks on the offensive end, but not like the Lakers are.
So I think that the Lakers can pull away.
They just have to shoot in their average percentage from three.
If the game keeps playing out the way it is, there gonna be a really good shape.
Laker fan Mike's has noticed every time KCP Mrs Miami scores on the next possession.
Ah yeah, well, a lot of times when KCP Mrs he's missing long, too.
And it's leading to transition opportunities, and we've seen so far the Lakers aren't that good defending in transition opportunities.
That's the one area of defense that they're not good at.
They've been really good everywhere else.
It's just in in transition.
They've been bad stopping the fast break.
So when you get somebody missing a three and you get that long board, they're running out there getting opportunities.
They're getting mismatches because people are having a cross match.
Ah, as they get back.
So that's been a problem.
And it's something that Vogel is gonna have to address.
I think it's been the weakest part of their defense so far, and I I don't think it's some like Magic Bullet, where KCP mrs and immediately becomes a point for the other team.
Um, I think it's just a symptom of the long Mrs and those air leading to run out Goran Dragic Right now, as things go in 11 points for dramatic and four assists in just 14 minutes, he's kind of lighting up the Lakers.
He just had a really nice night against his former team, the Phoenix Suns.
I was thinking that was a little bit of a revenge game and hoping Dragic would have cooled off a bit for tonight.
So far, that hasn't been the case.
Tragic has been really, really good.
So looks like LeBron's taken arrest.
We've got Danny Green back in a D back in as well.
Dwight Howard out there.
Well, it's ever Bradley back in.
So you went to some more shooters. Dany Greene.
He's surrounding a D and Dwight Howard, with Green Bradley and Quinn Cook hoping that those three guys could not get enough shots on the open looks to Ah, keep Miami honest.
We'll see what happens here again.
The better three point shooters on the team.
Quinn cook, 40% shooter from deep for his career, and Danny Green hit 46% last season.
They cannot goes in. They can turn this thing.
But again, no LeBron on the floor.
We'll see how that impacts it again.
Lakers pinging the ball around the perimeter, not finding a good look.
Finally, Quinn Cook penetrates.
Makes a nice runner.
It's taking them so long to finally make the decisions to just cut and just go.
It's like they're looking for the exact right thing until finally, somebody just goes where we saw Alex Caruso due in a few minutes ago.
They've got to be a bit quicker getting into the paint there because if they can, they're collapsing the defense and they're creating open looks.
They just have to get the ball into the middle of the paint.
Do that. Good things were gonna happen.
Saw that last play.
The replay shows what happened.
A D cut back cut outside to the the Quarter.
Jimmy Butler didn't want to completely leave him, and that created a wide open shot for Quinn. Cook.
Get the ball on the floor, take one or two dribbles into the pain.
You're going to generate good looks, Quinn cook, bringing the ball up the floor under pressure.
That's good to see him handle that.
That's been a problem with the Lakers.
Their ball handlers have been susceptible to getting pressured.
Danny Green misses the three, that's what. Three for 17.
Now, that's again.
That's what's keeping this game from being blown open.
Nice ball handling to get in the paint.
Generates something here.
All right, sideline out of bounds.
Quinn Cook's got the ball up top.
Balder slips out of his hands and Miami's got the lead again.
Transition points are killing and the Lakers bad mistakes.
Seven turnovers so far for the Lakers that maybe eight.
What's the status update and transition buckets are really hurt him, Man, that that's a nice law.
Passed 80 to Dwight finishes in the air.
Big Big Glob sent out another tweet here, just to see if I can get a few more people in before the end of the half.
Great past. There. From Anthony Davis to Dwight.
I'm Frank Vogel at half time.
I'm just talking about the need to stay calm and knock down your shots.
The Lakers knock down there, open threes.
They're in great shape here, but they're not, and that's why these things close.
So, Dwight coming out.
Koosman coming back in, right? A little bit more spacing, LeBron coming back on the floor as well.
I was bored there.
Lakers can get something going on, this heat scrambling in transition.
I think that's what Vogel is hoping for.
Getting Kyle Kuzma, another guy who can penetrate into the paint and then break things down from there.
Koosman took a step in.
Things got closed off.
You could see him already thinking ahead of time.
Maybe even a little bit too fast.
Looking for a close out, looking for somebody looking for somebody. Kick out, too.
LeBron finds a D in the middle of the paint.
Got a good look.
They've got to keep doing that, though.
Somebody forgot Kelly Olynyk, and now Danny Greene's got three fouls and he's upset.
Kind of had to take that fell, so Danny Reed is gonna have to come back out three fouls and Miami again getting to the free throw line.
They don't have a great offense.
They just they're generating points.
Begin to the line.
Put the Lakers in foul trouble.
10 free throws so far from Miami, just two for the Lakers, three of 16 shooting from deep.
Fortunately, Miami's not shooting very well from DP there.
Troy Daniels coming in for Danny Green again.
Vogel's desperate for shooting because he's seeing the same thing.
I'm seeing that they just need to knock down all these open threes. It again.
Avery Bradley lobbed 80.
Get the ball into the middle of the paint again.
Good things happen with against this Miami defense.
They're all day all day.
Anthony Davis catches the ball right at the free throw line, turns and shoots.
Nobody even challenges him.
I'm surprised Miami is giving up that much space in the middle, but I've also surprised the Lakers haven't capitalized on a more.
They're letting the ball get into the bay.
I mean, this is like coaching and junior high team.
This is what I would be telling them to do.
This is how I would be telling them to beat this Miami defense.
It's very simple, and I'm surprised the Lakers have been more successful at it because it's it.
This is this shouldn't be rocket science for them, leaving a shooter in the corner.
Daniel's tripping over himself and the ball, and everybody just threw the ball into the first row.
It's the silly turnovers they're just getting.
I think like the Lakers have really picked up their play in the third quarter from most games.
So I hope that we see these things start to click because right now everything's just a little bit off.
That sharpness just isn't there right now.
For them, it's just not there, just off a little bit.
It's they're shooting their passes of just a little bit off.
They did a decent job moving the ball around earlier, but everything just seems one step off.
And so if they can get that get on the same page, this is a game that they can't.
They should be blown out here.
So we've got bad matter.
Bio at the free throw line.
Comte I the game.
But a minute left to play.
I want to see how the Lakers close this thing out.
This is where okay, Good. He missed his first free throw.
This is where you got to close.
This came out strong.
Have so moment of going to the locker room, try and be up. Five.
Five heading and 1/2 time.
Okay, they could be up a lot more viewing, and you're not gonna be sharp every single night.
I think there's a lot of things that Vogel can talk about today in the locker room.
At halftime, they can tweet things here and there.
I do like the endgame adjustments from vocal, though.
That's one thing that I've liked about him so far as a coach.
There's a lot of things that I've liked, but he's done a pretty good job making endgame adjustments.
You can see him out there with his rotations, looking for shooting.
By the way, Troy Data's just knocks down the three.
You can see what he's telling players who were coming into the floor and the way they're attacking this.
He understands how to beat this defense, and he's not really.
He's not known as a defensive coach or an offensive coach.
He's known as a defensive coach, so I like we've seen LeBron gambled on Ah, steal their didn't get it.
Lakers almost got burned there, but didn't.
Fortunately, Olenick misses the three.
So we are up for a another silly turnover.
Anthony Davis tried to throw the highlight pass.
At least you blocked the shot, but Kuzma Koosman picks up the foul.
Four point lead.
Could be down to two here with Jimmy Butler going to the free throw line again.
Turnovers or get him where we had now for the for the half, that is nine turnovers right now on the half.
To be fair, I want to say against the Bulls, they had 10 or 11 a half time, so by that measure, they're actually down in turnovers a little bit.
But yeah, that's this.
Is is too many, especially when they've been this bad at defending in transition.
If you're gonna be a bad team defending in transition, you better take care of the basketball the way that's a recipe for disaster.
And I want to sound too negative here about the Lakers.
They've been tremendous so far this season.
Ready me? What they are six and one at this point, tied for the best record in the league, so I don't want to complain too much or sound like I'm complaining.
I'm or I'm saying the things that they can improve upon because I'm saying that this isn't a finished product.
Ah, few little tweaks.
No few little tweaks here and there.
And this team can get a lot better if they could just clean up a few things whose mother was some weird timing there for that three.
I think he thought he was going to for one because he shot that under pressure.
Not a good look.
See if they can lease stop Miami from scoring Cruise by defending Jimmy Butler.
This is what we want to see.
Can Koosman defend? Yes, he can.
That was nice defense by Kyle Cruise, but I don't think we would have seen that out of him.
Last year was a great stop.
He stayed in front of Jimmy Butler when the Stepback came.
He challenged and contested without fouling.
Made it a really tough look who's had a rough half.
But that was a nice defensive standing.
Close things out.
All right, guys.
Thanks, everybody for coming in here and, uh, joining me just to kind of recap where we're at.
Lakers 48 Miami Heat 46.
You've got a two point lead at halftime.
You've got Anthony Davis leading the way with 16 points, six boards to assist, two steals, two blocks.
He's having a monster performance.
LeBron James hasn't really got going yet four assists, but two of seven from the field, one of two from three.
Lakers shooting four of 19 from deep as I've been predicting, if they can get their three point shooting at least upto average and I'm talking 35% I think they're gonna win this thing.
Especially if Miami doesn't switch up their defense, which is supposed to have very Mel.
But I think if they could start knocking into threes, they're gonna be in really good shape.
Otherwise, this thing's gonna be a battle throughout right now, just to have to with line.
But also, let's see the Lakers get themselves to the free throw line a little bit more.
Um, in the second half.
All right, guys, Thanks everybody for joining me.
We will do this again soon.
I want to make this more of a regular thing.
So hopefully you guys will be coming to find me during the game and after the game afterwards, I'm gonna be going live with Jazz King.
We're gonna be on going live on, uh, periscope on Facebook Live and YouTube's have come find us.
We're going to talk all about the game, tosses your comments, be a lot of fun.
Thanks, everybody, for joining me.
Enjoy the second half.
I'm gonna spend the second half compiling my stats and get ready for the post game show on this one.
So again, Thank you so much.
