Hello, Lakers Nation.
Trevor lain here for lakers nation dot com.
And today I am breaking down three things that we learned from the Lakers big comeback win over the Chicago Bulls.
I still can't believe it.
I can't believe that the Lakers actually pulled that off.
I thought they were dead meat dead in the water.
Didn't look like they had any energy.
But somehow they managed to come back and get the win.
So what does this tell us? Moving forward about your Los Angeles Lakers? And by the way, I should say first place.
Best record, not just in the Western Conference.
Best record in the n B A.
Yes, it's early.
But let me celebrate a little bit while we can hear first place in the entire n b A.
With a record of six and 16 street winds for your Los Angeles Lakers.
Gotta love that kind of a start.
Guys, we're going to dive into it.
Three things that we learned from this game.
But first, quick shout out to our sponsors up time, energy drinks.

Go check about how energy should feel.
That's up time. Energy drinks.
Okay, so let's dive into it.
Three things that we learned from this Lakers wind over the Chicago Bulls.
And first and foremost.
First, we need to talk about LeBron James.
Is he actually a human being? Is he immortal? Because this is now three games in a row that he has put up a triple double? And let me tell you what really blew my mind about what we saw from LeBron James.
I mean, look, yeah, he's 40.
He's 34 years old, heading towards 35.
You've got that.
You're the age you've got the mileage, the fact that he's played someone, you minutes, somebody long playoff battles, all of these kinds of things, right.
That's all that's all important to remember.
But we're watching LeBron James, and we're watching him do the things that he does.
But what really impressed me about LeBron James in this game was that there was no let up.
The Lakers were down.
At one point, they were down 19 points to the Chicago Bulls to a young team that is not expected to make the playoffs in the East, The least earn conference and LeBron James and his Lakers, which are expected to be a title contender, are down.
And yet, LeBron James did not give in when the rest of the Lakers were not making the right rotations when the rest of the Lakers were turning the ball over.
And yes, I know LeBron had a few turnovers of his own.
LeBron was still hustling.
He was closing out on shooters.
He was leading by example.
This is a LeBron James that we have been wanting to see since all of last season.
He had moments last season where he looked great.
He also had some moments where you could see he just didn't have the assist.
You steals in a block, but for me, it was the energy.
If you are one of the Lakers players, if you're Alex Caruso, your queen cook your any of these guys, you're out there and you're getting your butts kicked by the Chicago Bulls and LeBron James is still hustling to close out of town shooters.
LeBron James is still doing everything he can to scrap and fight and claw and keep this team in the hunt.
At least keep you guys within striking distance.
Is there any chance that you're not gonna go out there and do the same? No, because he's LeBron James.
This guy has won M V.
This guy has won championships.
If there's anybody on the Lakers that disturbs to occasionally take a rest, take game off, right, Preserve his body were in November.
We're talking about the seventh gave him Oven 82 game season.
It is LeBron James that would be able to do those things, But no, he is fighting on.
He is setting the example by what he's doing out there on the floor, and the other guys fell right in line.
When LeBron James did not give in, We saw the bench unit did not give in, and that eventually sparks the Lakers victory.
Big stuff from LeBron so impressed with him and what we've seen so far, he has to be a legitimate M v P candidate at this point again.
Three triple doubles in a row, and without him, the Lakers aren't within striking distance for the bench.
You want to come in and go on that big run of the start of the fourth quarter, he nearly single handedly kept the Lakers in this game, willed them to at least stay close.
And then when it came time to win, the entire team stepped up.
That's a lot of that is, thanks to the example that was set by LeBron James.
All credit to him there.
But what we're seeing by LeBron number two second thing to take away besides LeBron James, maybe not even being mortal at this point.
Him being incredible in doing these amazing things, It's not all good.
I think the second takeaway here has to be that while LeBron Night might not be mortal, the Lakers are.
The Lakers definitely are.
We saw a Lakers team for the 1st 3/4 that made all kinds of mistakes that looked like they were just not in it.
They looked like they were mentally checked out, and yes, it's a trap game.
This is the last game of road trip.
This is a game where you are expected to win.
Maybe they were going in thinking it was gonna be a cakewalk.
Maybe they were going in thinking it was gonna be easy.
And no, they're not going to say those things publicly and no, they're going to try to They're gonna try to avoid thinking those things because that's what athlete it tries to do.
But it may be that crept into their heads a little bit because we saw sloppy play.
We saw miss defensive rotations.
For a team that is normally one of the very best defensive teams in the MBA, we saw all kinds of issues pop up with turnovers.
We saw a lot of missed shots, just poor, poor shooting, poor play all the way around.
All the way around, we saw poor play and I've got Kyle Kuzma up on the screen because Koosman I had some really ugly turnovers and getting credit to him in the fourth quarter.
We're gonna get that.
But he had some ugly turnovers out there.
In fact, he had three turnovers and they were all pretty bad and shot one of eight from three again.
Better stuff coming.
Okay, so don't worry there, but bottom line, this Lakers team showed some flaws, that's for sure.
Mentally, they weren't locked in on this game.
They didn't really get going until the fourth quarter.
And so is that a cause for concern? Is that something to worry about? Or is this just Hey, it's kind of a trap game.
And they were taking the veldt, the Bulls a little bit lightly.
And then when it came time to really play, they stepped up and got the job done.
We could look at it that way, but there has to be a little bit of concern to you that they're developing this habit of thinking they can just kick it in, thinking that they can flip the switch.
Yes, so far it's worked.
But at some point they're gonna run up against a team that they're not gonna be able to do that against.
And so that is a little bit of cause for concern there.
Hopefully that's nothing that will be an issue permanently moving forward, but something to watch, right? Something to keep an eye on.
Now the other thing is this all the same topic here.
If you look at what the Bulls provide, the Bulls are on N B.
A team that is obviously not a good team.
But this is a team that their offenses is horrific.
They're not good.
But the way the generate points is usually off of turnovers, that's how they score, because they're not good in the half court offense.
They score a lot of their points in the paint because they have guys that can slash to the rim.
And they also score points in the paint because they get on a lot of fast breaks by forcing turnovers.
So the bottom line is, if you don't turn the ball over against the Bulls, most likely you're gonna win the game because their offense is not good in the Lakers.
Defense is typically good, and we knew that I talked about this in my three keys to winning the game that came out just before the game day before yesterday.
So the Lakers had to go in knowing that the game plan needed to be.
Just don't turn the ball over, take care of the basketball, place all the defense and you'll be fine.
You'll win this game.
If you do those two things because the only path to victory for the Bulls was to force so much turnovers and get easy points in transition and why the Lakers do through 3/4 they turn the ball over like crazy.
In fact, they had 15 turnovers in 3/4 15 and 3/4 5 in the first quarter load.
They picked up turnovers left and right, and I'm talking about ugly turnovers, live ball turnovers where people just passed the ball to the wrong player.
At one point, JaVale McGee passed the ball to Otto Porter, who plays for the Bulls, and Otto Porter stepped up and drained a three.
It was one of those kinds of nights, so it's something to watch for moving forward.
Are there gonna be more nights where they have mental lapses like this? No, they're not gonna win every game from here on out.
And, yes, issues air going to crop up.
But for Frank Vogel, Lakers head coach, he needs to make sure that this team is locked in or at least has locked in as they can be because we did not see a locked in Lakers team for most of this game.
So again, something to keep an eye on moving forward.
Can the Lakers turn in a full performance? So far, we've seen them just play really good in certain sports spurts, and that's been enough to get victories.
Can they turn in a complete game? Something to keep an eye on as we go? All right.
Final thing final.
Take away the bench.
Mom, Look, Quinn Cook had a tremendous game.
The bench stepped up big time in that fourth quarter as as poorly as they played through those 3/4 and we just talked about it when the Lakers flipped the switch.
Oh my goodness, we If you're the N b A and you see what the Lakers did in that fourth quarter, you've got to be concerned if you are any other N b a team, because if they can somehow bottle that what we saw that defensive intensity, even Quinn Cook was making big defensive plays, and he's not known as a defender.
In addition to the what 17 points that he scored on the night three or four shooting from three, the Lakers got contributions from their bench, and when they locked in, they were scary.
This team has a ceiling that is so, so, so high now, just like we mentioned in the last take away that they have their issues.
They have their cracks.
But the ceiling, When they hit that ceiling, I would not want to deal with this team.
This team can be incredibly good just because of how good they are on the defensive end and then what they can do when the offense actually clicks.
Look, there's a lot of new faces here.
They're trying to build chemistry.
There's going to be synopsis of offensive issues.
But check this out.
I said 15 turnovers through through 3/4.
Guess how many they had in the fourth 00 turnovers in the fourth quarter, compared to seven turnovers for the Bulls because the Lakers defense just warmed them completely, took them out of the game, put the clamps on the Bulls and said no more said You will not be one in this game.
You are not going to score on us.
In fact, they won the fourth quarter 38 to 19 and a bunch of those 19 came in garbage time.
When the game was already decided, 38 to 19 they won the fourth quarter.
They went berserk.
And if this Lakers team can do that with any kind of consistency, this could be a not just a legit contender.
This could be your favorite to win the n b a N b a championship.
Now look much easier said than done.
I'm not saying this is your title favorite, because playing at that level all the time is extremely difficult to do.
But the fact that they've got that, the fact that they've got that level that they can get to is so, so impressive paid to the point where the Bulls were scoring most of their points off turnovers by the end of the game.
Because the fourth quarter was so lopsided, the Lakers actually outscored the Bulls on points off turnovers, 23 to 20.
Even though the Bulls were way out in front most of the game.
They also won the points in the paint battle 52 to 48.
They took the Bulls out of everything they wanted to do, and yes, look, I know the Bulls are not a good team, they're young team, they're going to make mistakes like this.
They're gonna be susceptible that things like this to feeling the pressure late in the game to to all of that, right, they're going to fumble away leads because that's what young teams do.
But the Bulls are still in N B A team.
This is a quality professional team.
No, they're not a playoff team or anything like that.
But you can't just dismiss everything the Lakers did and say, Oh, it's the Bulls, it doesn't matter or oh, it was the Grizzlies.
When 80 win nuts, it doesn't matter.
No, this is a real legitimate n b A team and the fact that the Lakers were able to dismantle them so thoroughly in the fourth quarter after playing so horrifically bad through 3/4 that says something again.
That tells you that while the floor was low today, the floor was extremely low.
The ceiling is so so high, and you have to imagine that as this team builds chemistry, they're going to keep creeping closer and closer to that ceiling that their average level of play is going to keep getting higher and higher and higher as they learn to play with each other.
And that is an exciting thing for Lakers fans and a scary thing for the rest of the N B a.
All right, guys, what do you think? Was I on point with with my three keys from this game, what did we learn about the Lakers moving forward again? We learned LeBron James, possibly not mortal, certainly an M V P candidate.
We learned that the Lakers have their flaws.
The Lakers definitely are mortal.
And three, we learned that their ceiling is just so, so high, and it is scary when they get close to it.
That's going to do it for today, guys.
