What is going on, guys? Everybody watching on SportsCastr.
Welcome to the stream.
And if you're listening on pod being boy, has it been a while? I have not been here since June when we had the Stanley Cup final and after the NHL season, going on getting ready for free agency.
And now we're finally back on the pod being doing some podcasting.
And we are also still on SportsCastr trying to go strong as school is insane.
It is 10 49 cent forties on the 10.
51 we're still going live streaming.
We're still going strong.
So we're getting right into this Florida Panther of podcasts and Oh, my God, We haven't talked about anything.
We will quickly recap the offseason very quickly.
They signs area bobrovsky.
I felt they were getting both ****eryn am bobrovsky, but they do say I'm bossy and they may be better in the future for it.
Now they Dr Spencer Night, Who will be the goaltender of the future for the Florida Panthers? They still have Sand Mancebo, who is now the backup who's looking pretty good right now.
Besides his last game against Vancouver.
So you think that after Brodsky's time is done after the seven years, I'm sure that they'll be done.
Maybe even before that that either Spencer and understand Montebello is ready to take that big starting role, and they'll be ready to go for this team.
That's the assumption.
And it seems that the Cats have really solidified their goaltending for the future.
Now, if they had signed Artemis printer and for about $10 million here's what happened and I have been here's what happened.
Looking back, I was I was ****ed that the Rangers signed him when I found out.
You know, my Ranger fans while I was in camera. We're good.
We got the bad man.
You thought you were getting him in for it.
Now, okay, this is why I like this because we still had, Let's say, quote unquote like $10 million to spend, and I think they spent it really well.
One Shari center for the four line, a gritty guy who's been great, has been even scoring goals.
That Ford line has been great. Because of him.
He would have been able to been signed Brett Connolly, Stanley Cup champion.
He's a goal scorer.
He's got a lot of heart and passion for the game they wouldn't give him.
They would not have been able to sign him and a defenseman that I have always loved, always loved.
I have always loved this guy.
He's a great pop moving defenseman.
He can skate up the ice, you can join the rush and he's just been known to be that responsible guy.
And I think that he can prove to be a mentor for guys like Matheson and Ekblad.
You just have habits of turning the puck over.
We'll get we'll get to them in a second.
But Anton Stralman is a key defenseman for this team and I think that the sky's the limit for this guy, in terms of what you can do in the defense's potential is insane in terms of helping turn this defense around.
Obviously, the Cats get Jo Kwan will.
We went over that we definitely did before I left and bringing Anton Stralman toe really solidify this de corps.
That's young and still growing it definitely not ready to go for the playoffs.
This is the kind of guy we need, Anton Stralman and the Panthers, definitely with the amount of money and turn we signed into Panthers, definitely would not have been able to sign him if they had signed Artemis.
So in the long run, panders air better without parent.
Maybe for now. What? That's what.
This is my opinion.
So let's move on.
The off season is over.
We're actually into the regular season now.
And so we get into the beginning of the season and we get to the first few games of the year and we lose the tap in the first game.
Like Okay, we expected this campus super team and it's their home opener.
We can lose one. I wanted to split this one.
This woman home with them.
I was at opening night.
I had insane seats.
And what a save by Sergei Bobrovsky He made on Nikita Kucherov on his one timer.
Mike, I've been with the big hat trick.
I threw my hat for the first time on the ice ever.
I ended up buying the same exact hat on eBay 30 seconds later, literally in my seat for a 25 bucks.
Perfect, Perfect, perfect. Perfect.
The last one available.
Um, and a lot of guys have gotten the heart too. Hot starts.
Jonathan Huberdeau took a little bit.
He was a little cold and then he was really fired up.
Right now he's been insane.
Connelly has been on a goal scoring streak.
Vincent Trocheck got a short handed goal in Game one, then went down with injury.
Um, a lot of guys were really just firing it up on the fourth line.
Is working with Noah Charney.
That third line.
Frank Vitrano looks great.
The new signed Brian Boyle looks great.
Henrik Borgstrom sent down to the HRT gets the more time there knowing tippet sent down the age ought to get some more time there.
They're gonna develop. They're still young guys.
But Brian Boyle, I absolutely love this.
Stunning by the way, we're gonna be like throwing around ideas back and forth in this podcast.
But Brian Boyle What? Assigning he waas.
I mean to get a guy who's been a multiple Stanley Cup finals.
So the Rangers So the lightning has been it's been there for a few, and I got to say the signing is fantastic because it provides a leadership to the locker room, a kind of mojo, a kind of swag that the team needs in terms of, um, going to work during the day, like Alexander bark off and just a big guy who can provide a lot of support.
And it's still provide the offenses.
Well, he remember Brian Boyle has been a 20 gold score before.
He was great with the New Jersey Devils last year.
That's why he was traded for big for big stuff at the trade deadline to the National Brothers.
And he wasn't signed and he was in contract talks to the Pandas for awhile through the summer, and the money wasn't there.
And then, once Boyle realize that this team had no money and left and he really wanted to play for them, he ended up signing pretty late because nobody else was signing him for the money that he wanted.
And now look where he is.
He's ending up with the Florida Panthers, and it looks great on it.
But the Panthers were really getting their scoring from everywhere and Aleksander Barkov.
Now this is the last forward I'm gonna touch on that will move on to the defense.
Aleksander Barkov went cold, absolutely cold, like he did have an injury late in the preseason against the Tampa Bay Lightning, which kept him out for the remains of one of the games.
And after after that game it seemed that air neck that Ah, excuse me, Aleksander Barkov was injured and then they said he was fine.
He came back and then he started playing and he started getting an assist here and there.
And then he had that big and he was getting assists here and there was still under in terms of like you.
He had under a point of game and people were getting really concerned about Aleksander Barkov.
And then as time went by and he stopped taking faceoffs, he just didn't look the same.
He didn't play with speed and stick handling and the defense, especially with that stick that you usually see from him.
You could tell something was wrong.
Now all they said was that it was an upper body injury, but they never specified with that upper and upper body injury was so all us fans can do is speculate on what Barkov was doing and what was wrong with him.
And then he has that big forest this game in Calgary and oh, boy, did this guy great.
He was making great passes and now we get back to the home stand after a great successful road trip after beating the Avalanche in overtime, thanks to Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau.
Um, Barkov looks great.
He has two goals in the last two games.
He scored against Detroit and he scored against Colorado for his 1st 2 of the year, and he's got a lot of assists in his pocket.
I believe he's got about 15 and, like I said with Bar guy, he's very streaky guy.
Not everything. A lot of it is in his hat.
I have been saying for weeks that once bargain was gonna get that first goal of the year, he was gonna take off.
He has that first goal.
He has a goal in the second game and then Thursday and gets Washington is going to be a big test for this team as they just destroyed possibly the worst team in the league, the Detroit Red Wings.
And now they will take on one of the best in the Washington Capitals, who just got done partying with the Washington Nationals.
Now down to the defense.
Uh, wow, they have really turned a corner very few games of the year.
I mean, they just they Ah, they didn't look like the same old Panthers.
They looked a little better, but they still kind of looked like they were all over the place in terms that they were out of position on someplace.
I mean, they were moving the puck quickly.
They were getting out of the zone quick.
The system looked good and it still does in terms of this fast paced play that I really like from the team.
But there was a turnover here and there and just really didn't look good.
But now it seems like the turnovers are being eliminated.
The guys were playing with more confidence, and I just want an article for the Rat trick last week, actually posted the other day about how Mike Matheson has rejuvenated his defensive game and I was a big hater of Mike Matheson for the last year, year and 1/2.
Based on his defensive play, I mean, it was awful.
He had no confidence and when he would try and move the puck, it would just end up in a clear turnover and usually a goal.
And it'll be a burden for the entire team now, like math, since before he was injured with moving the pock, he could still provide the offense, but he was not turning over.
He was playing fantastic.
I got to say that's how he was playing.
He's playing great and I loved it era neck blood.
Aaron Ekblad first overall pick in 2014.
A lot is expected from this franchise defender.
He's on the front of the arena with bark off blood.
I think has been solid.
I'm not going to say great.
Think he's been solid, You know, he has that little puck foot thing that he does perfectly see how he flips it out of the zone.
It's not a nice thing.
He's been doing good at that.
But Aaron Ekblad has improved his defensive game.
His offensive game has always been there.
He's been jumping in on the rush this year.
He's had a few told drag.
She's had a few nice shots.
He did have his first school of the year and that does look pretty good now.
He's moving the puck quickly.
He's rarely turning it over.
I don't see him out of position as much.
The only time I remember seeing about a position was that one bad goal against the Colorado Avalanche boy.
Other than that, Aaron Ekblad seems to have been great, and I'm being dead serious about this.
Aaron Ekblad and Mike Matheson are have been great and seems, and it seems, that they have been returning to the form that we originally saw from them early in their careers.
It seems like there Bob Buhner form has been erased, and there Joel Quenneville form, brings out the best in that.
So great for those two and for the rest of the defense, MacKenzie weaker, has been a fantastic defenseman I've been saying for years.
For years I said it a while ago.
I was actually gonna read an article about this for the Rat Trick.
I did write one, but I did go to the extent saying that MacKenzie Wieder is playing like a future Eric Carlson.
Now a lot of people said that was a stretch.
But if you look at the way this guy is playing.
He has been great, a lot of offense more than we expected and he's moving the puck quickly.
He's not taking no for an answer in terms of physicality.
He will go after you if you can't if he needs to go.
But I love everything I've seen from this guy everything.
I think he's a franchise defended for us.
I really don't and how strong it.
Obviously, he took a little bit to settle in in terms of really getting the defensive game going and getting his game going.
But I think he's really turning a corner now and in the rest of the d cor just been great.
I think that we're really playing well defensively.
We're really getting better now.
Going into the crease is something that a lot of Panther fans have been arguing about in the last few weeks to start the season.
First we'll dress Sam Mancebo and then we'll get to the Big Bob Sam Ma Tembo comes into this year after giving us a little taste last year of what he he can do between between the pipes Sam Montana Bo looked fantastic against the New York Islanders.
Fantastic it wasn't percent Mancebo.
The Cats would not have gone to overtime in that game.
He was fantastic.
We go to Vancouver, the team was a little asleep.
So if Sam Mancebo on a few of those goes, he gets pulled.
We've only seen two games for him.
A very small sample size.
So I think we need a little more to see if he's capable of being that backup goaltender.
I wanted a guy like Keith Kincaid or Michael Noi there, but I think we're fine with Sam Mancebo. For now.
As it seemed to start giving, Brodsky will play the majority off these games.
Now moving on to the Big Gun.
The $10 million a year for seven years, $70 million player Sergei Bobrovsky, my boy. Bob.
Get that movie reference.
You're my boy, Bob. You're my boy.
Blue. Yeah, There it is.
I'm gonna say it.
Do not rip me due out at me.
I'm dead serious.
He's been fantastic.
Do not get on me, Okay? The numbers aren't there.
They're actually pretty god**** awful.
Sergei Bobrovsky to a lot of NHL critics has been horrendous.
I have the statistics, right here in goals against average.
Sergei bobrovsky has a 3.
36 goals against average.
His save percentage is eight e, too.
That's not good.
Okay, the numbers were worse before, but that's what they are right now.
And obviously six wins to one.
And he's also got a big s. Oh, shut out.
Here's what I'm gonna say.
The defense has been adjusting and the goals that he's been letting up, it seems like none of them are his fault.
He's making game saving stops, the way he moves, the way he works and just the quickness and the reaction time is something that I have never seen out of afford a Panther goaltender in my life.
I mean, we've seen Luanda have flashes of of glory and James Reimer looking unstoppable for a week and then going back to and then we had Joe's a Theodore back in the day who was like, Wow, this guy's good, but that was for about a year and watching the Cats, I don't think I've ever seen a goaltender that is giving them this big of a chance to win on a nightly basis.
With his quickness, his reaction time, the way he moved it.
I'm saying a lot of synonyms here, but it all relates to how he plays this game, how he carries himself.
He's a leader in the locker room.
He's just a fantastic guy.
And wow, Sergei Bobrovsky.
I'm impressed with you because you have shown me that you I think you're the best goaltender in the NHL.
It seems like one of gold goes past.
Ugh, it's just never your fault.
It's the defense, okay? And finally, is getting the respect he deserves from the rest of the league as he picks up his first shot out of the year Saturday night against the Detroit Red Wings for nothing but bobrovsky, you've been quite now we've gone through the entire team.
The coaching staff, I think, has been great joke.
Wendell System, I think, has been great.
He's holding a lot of players accountable.
Okay, guys, there was one game arrived.
Thought Aaron Ekblad was a healthy scratch.
This would have never been done under Bob Guv'nor.
They were neighbors.
This would've never happened.
But I thought it did. I really did.
Aaron Ekblad was a scratch.
Nobody knew why he wasn't on for warm ups and then said it was illness.
I called it B s.
I'm not sure if he was old.
This I'm not sure if it was a healthy scratch.
We may never know there was a practice actually know before we get to the practice, there was a game.
Where of? Jenny dot In off in Jonathan Huberdeau.
Okay, those Jew guys, we're not playing for the final 10 minutes of the third period and then a practice.
They're held accountable.
They okay, they had to speak to joke Wendell after the practice.
And that was the moment where Dad off started.
Started getting all these started period goals.
Who? Bordeaux is hot right now.
He's absolutely hot.
He had two goals the other night on Saturday.
Without the accountability from Joe Klein ville, this Panther team would not be where they are.
Okay, Joel Glenville is a big reason why this team is third place in their division.
Speaking of third place in their division, want to start for the cats? I mean, it looked a little rocky.
It really did as they kept losing games in overtime.
But as you keep losing games in overtime.
You keep picking up points.
I mean, as of right now, because they played two more games that Toronto made.
Beliefs are above the Florida Panthers by one point, but they played two more games than us.
The capture, like one or two and four, something like that.
Like to Owen four.
I mean, look, overtime losses.
But now that they're 73 and four, I mean that that record looks fantastic.
I mean, now I guess they're tied with Montreal for the first Wild for the first wildcard.
But But still, I think the cat's look great.
Their systems are being implemented, and everything was looking fantastic.
And they got through the hardest month of the year as they had the toughest schedule in the NHL.
They play Colorado twice.
They played the New York Islanders, who were the hottest team in the NHL.
They played the Tampa Bay Lightning twice.
They put the Carolina Hurricanes.
I mean, they're playing a lot of fantastic teams and yet they're still in a playoff spot and argue Wait, you could say that they could be in second place after Thursday, which is insane to say after the start that Buffalo has had and all the hype tip of Louis had and that people are already calling them Cup contenders.
The Florida Panthers are for real.
They got through this month of October, and they didn't just get through it.
Vase surpassed the expect.
Expectations of even the fans as Sergei, Sergei bobrovsky and the Florida Panthers as a franchise have historically had awful October's.
And even though bobrovsky didn't have the greatest October, he's gonna get even better from here.
They had an awful schedule in the month of October.
Now is we hit November things.
They're going to get a little bit easier where planes and nonplayoff teams.
We got Philly, We got Anaheim, We got Buffalo, we got We got things like the Rangers.
We and we already beat Detroit.
Guys, we have a better scheduled in October, and I think the team is only gonna get better from here now, guys, that's pretty much it.
I really want Wow, almost 20 minutes.
