Let's try that one more time.
I'm gonna be recapping tonight's Lakers Spurs game.
Thank you guys for tuning into my livestream.
So tonight's Lakers Spurs game final of 103 96 Lakers take this one in San Antonio.
A lot of positives to build off for the Lakers.
I know it's a women.
That's the most important thing, but LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard all played really well tonight.
Dwight Howard, obviously the most surprising of those three Anthony Davis on the Bronze Games are supposed to play well.
Anthony Davis finish the night with 25 points, 11 rebounds, two assists with four blocks.
He shot 50% of the field kind of 20 mate.
All four free throws.
That's one thing, though, about Anthony Davis that in the past two games, So three games ago against the Grizzlies, he shot 27 free throws, which was the fourth most of them.
BA history made 26 of them, and ever since then, in the last two games he's shot six free throws total.
He went one for two against the Mavericks on Friday night, and tonight he went four for four he's gonna be a little bit more aggressive team.
I'm glad that he's up above 50% or ATT least at 50% shooting for the year.
He's a little bit under 50% but I expect that to correct him correct itself as the season continues to go on.
But he has kind of been a little less aggressive the past two games.
I'm not sure it could be having to do with the shoulder injury.
Although his shoulder was injured against the Grizzlies as well and he ended up shooting 27 free throws three pointer, he finally made a three pointer.
In this game. He went one for two.
So this is the second game that he's made a three pointer.
His shot was falling a little bit more than it has the last few games.
Still not as well from outside as I would hope for it to be.
But I'll take him making a few more shots than normal in this game from outside, but yet finished 25 points, 11 rebounds.
He had the four blocks.
He did a six turnovers.
The whole Lakers team was just turning the ball over way too much let me try to pull up the turnovers, Lakers at 18 turnovers and that in this game.
Actually, not as that is, I was expecting it to be not as bad as you would have thought it would ended up after the first quarter Lakers at eight turnovers in the first quarter and that's what's really killing them.
They still, somehow after the first, we're up by one point.
I believe that they were up 26 25 having turned the ball over eight times, so that was a good sign going forward that they could hold onto a lead with all those turnovers.
You were expecting that We're hoping that those turnovers wouldn't continue at the same rate and they didn't ended up like I said 18 turnovers for the night.
Anthony Davis had a really nice game, but Bron James had a really good game all around.
Shooting wise, he was only eight for 23.
It didn't seem like he had missed that money shots, although did a few outside shots where he barely hit the real me at one worry airboat.
But still I didn't even notice that he shot the ball that poorly.
That's almost 33%.
And so for me to not notice that it means he was doing a lot of other stuff, right? One thing I did notice was his free throws.
He only shot five of 10 tonight, which that's very concerning, and I'm really hoping it doesn't get back to his old ways.
That just seemed like he wasn't really able to concentrate too much when he was at the line for the year.
9% of the free throw line with That doesn't include two nights that's going to go down by quite a bit, which is disappointing.
But I'm gonna hope that he continues to shoot the ball better from the free throw line.
Like I said, if someone offered me 75% of the free throw line for him for the year, I would take that in a heartbeat.
74% yes, 73% probably so 72.
I have to think about it for a little bit, but that gives you an idea as faras.
Just how much I want to see an improvement on the shop.
I think 66% of the free throw line last year, so that small increase does make a big difference.
Like I said, just his aggressiveness going to the rim when it's free Throws were falling.
He doesn't have any hesitation because he's confident that even if you use the free throw line is still going to get the points.
But he finished the M 21 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists, did five turnovers.
But look, everyone on the Lakers is turning it over.
He had two steals in a block.
He was over six from three.
So, like I said, not really shooting it from outside.
So it has been an off night.
He went five or 10 to the free throw line, but none of his outside shots were really falling.
When he got to the rim, he was finishing.
But outside, it just seemed like it was one of those nights for him, where he just couldn't get anything to drop.
Still finished 21 points, so, like I said, play 37 minutes, which is a little bit high for him.
I'd like to see his minutes down at around 33 34 if it's just one night worth 37 okay, that's fine.
Dwight Howard, though, before you get to Dwight Howard Lakers.
So I talked about LeBron James and his 37 minutes.
Anthony Davis had 36 which I'm fine with him, averaging 36.
If we could get it down 34 35 that would be a little bit better, because over the course of of a season that 36 compared to 35 it does make a difference.
That one extra minute every single night of Anthony Davis plays 75 games.
That's an extra two games worth of minutes just by playing one extra minute per night.
So it doesn't make a difference.
Lakers had a chance in the third quarter. They're up by 19.
They had a chance to really put this one away and they let the Spurs get back into it.
That is something that I'm not going to completely hold against the Lakers because the Spurs are a good team and it's tough to put good teams away.
But the same time that's something that they have to work on and just when there's blood in the water, they have to attack metaphorically.
But that was one where when the Lakers were up by 19 made all the momentum going for them on the road, really just the chance to completely put this way and the Spurs or started to climb back into it by the end of the third quarter.
I think it was a single digit game than the fourth quarter was closed for pretty much the whole fourth quarter.
So that was a missed opportunity by the Lakers, where they could have given Anthony, David Davis and LeBron James a little bit less minutes tonight.
But still they got the job done, LeBron or not LeBron James.
All right, Dwight Howard had an incredible game.
He I have said this, probably after each stream since the regular season started.
With every game that passes, Dwight Howard looks more and more like his old self.
I'm not expecting him to ever be as athletically and physically dominant as he was a few years ago, but he's playing really well.
He finished tonight with 14 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, who seven of seven from the field and all that came in just 20 minutes.
You should probably be getting a little bit more time than just 20 minutes.
JaVale McGee once again did absolutely nothing.
He played 11 minutes, had two points, three rebounds, two blocks shot, one shot.
But you can't be getting that from your starting center if you're the Lakers, and I know that Frank Vogel has been saying that he's not going to switch out the starting line up on the middle in the middle of a four game winning streak, which is now a five game winning streak.
But he should really consider just the Lakers with JaVale McGee.
Frank Vogel needs to understand that.
Yes, you're on a five game winning streak, but you're kind of on a five game winning streak in spite of your starting lineup.
And that's not a knock against LeBron or a D or Danny Green or even Avery Avery Bradley, who's played pretty well.
Ex played some really good defense that stretches and unable to hit his midrange jumper.
But the starting unit as a whole.
They have a negative in the net rating for the year.
JaVale McGee is a big reason for that.
You just does not do anything on offense and not really on defense, either.
He's slower defensively than he was last year.
I don't know if that's just no motivation.
I don't know why he wouldn't be motivated when he's battling Dwight Howard for minutes.
It's nice that every time one of the big men do something well, which is pretty much always Dwight Howard, because the dream like he doesn't do anything.
JaVale McGee and right Howard get excited for each other, Which is nice to see.
But if McGee wants to retain his starting spot, he needs to play harder.
He needs to be more invested, more interested in the game, because right now, he just is not.
And this is something that Frank Vogel just really needs to understand.
That yes, on a five game winning streak.
But it is not because of your starting five.
It's because of parts of your starting five.
It's obviously because of LeBron James. Anthony Davis.
Danny Green has done his part as well, but JaVale McGee no, you're winning in spite of him and I would hope that taking JaVale to the bench unlike last year, this is where maybe I am being a little naive by thinking that this wouldn't be the same result is last year.
When last year when JaVale McGee went to the bench, he just completely lost interest and was moping around.
Lakers even ended up trading a pizzazz about stress to make JaVale McGee happy, which was one of the dumbest trades that they have done in a long time.
That anything is done in a really long time.
But Ben JaVale McGee got back in the starting lineup, and he started playing well again.
This year, though, he's in the starting lineup.
Dwight Howard's playing well, but JaVale McGee.
You're in a professional basketball.
Lee be best professional basketball e in the world.
There's going be other competition, right? Howard's playing well.
Try to play better than and JaVale McGee does certain things where I should be doing certain things better than right.
JaVale McGee should be a little bit more mobile than Dwight Howard.
Neither one of them are extremely mobile, but if they have to switch, I would expect to bail on G to be a little bit quicker on its feet on Dwight Howard.
He's about 25 £30 lighter.
He's more athletic than right.
Howard at this stage in their respective careers, but he isn't moving his feet.
He got burned off the dribble or not off the dribble, but off the catch by Jonas Valanciunas against the Grizzlies, where Valentin ministers did a pump fake and drove right by JaVale McGee like he wasn't even there.
Javale McGee should be blocking more shots and Dwight Howard he can get higher off the floor is longer, and Dwight Howard just has a better defensive instinct.
But JaVale McGee should be doing that.
It should be finishing better around the room.
We should be getting more lobs, and a lot of that's just available.
Gay not getting himself in the right position because Dwight Howard, when he sets screens and rolls off of them heroes hard.
And that allows whoever the ball handler is.
LeBron James Avery Bradley had a really nice lob to Dwight Howard, where he dunked on your jock of Fertile Tonight.
It allows whoever the ball handler is. Thio.
Get him the ball in a position to succeed, usually on a lob, sometimes on the dump down if his defender comes over.
And that's just not what Javale McGee is doing.
One other note is that LeBron James I believe it was before this game was averaging the most points per possession as a ball handler off pick and roll of anyone in the N b A.
Get another really good game ball handling wise and distributing tonight, so I'd assume that is still the case that he is averaging the most per possession out of anyone in the league.
It's pretty incredible for someone who is a six foot 8 £260 at least, small forward, power forward, point forward, point guard, whatever you wanna call him.
He's the de facto point guard for the Lakers on offense and at this stage in his career, for him to still be doing this stuff, it is just really special to see that stuff happen.
So I'm really excited moving forward for what LeBron James can continue to do.
I had predicted on my regular season it was the staff's predictions for who was gonna lead the league in each stat.
I had said that Ron James was going to lead league and stats are assists at.
I believe it was 10 and 1/2 assists per game.
Feeling pretty good about that right now.
Obviously, stuff can change but get 13 assists tonight.
Before tonight, he was averaging.
8 assists per game, so he's gonna be averaging over 11 assists per game after tonight.
So that's definitely definitely a Ah, good start to the season.
Good start distributing Wise being able to get others involved in the bronze, still getting his own to, obviously at 39 last game against the Dallas Mavericks.
21 tonight on eight of 23 shooting, which again is not ideal.
But he does so much else, and also his defense doesn't show up in the box score, and he had one block.
He had two steals, but he's so much more engaged on defense than he was, especially last year.
But even for the past few years, we only know Laurent is someone who when the playoffs happen, especially if there's like a Game seven or something or a must win game for him, you will be engaged defensively.
He will give us all on that side of the court, but over the course of the regular season, he doesn't really play defense, and you can't really knock him too much on that just because of how much he does on the offensive end.
But this year to start, he has been phenomenal on defense.
When LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard or on the floor together, I don't know what their net rating is right now.
I'll look that up a little later, but they are so tough to score on inside, and LeBron James is doing a really good job of defending on the surrender.
He is switching and taking on any challenge that he needs to all the say.
Anthony Davis was huge tonight on defense with his four blocks, but not just his four blocks.
All of the other shots that he altered as well.
Same thing with Dwight Howard.
He played much better defensively than his two blocks would show, but he did have some big blocks.
He had a really nice steal towards them.
The game where I think it was beyond.
Marie was charging Adam for a layup and Dwight Howard to swipe down on the ball, knocked it right off of Murray's knee Lakers ball and that pretty much decide or not decided.
But that pretty much sealed the game for the Lakers.
So that was a really good child by Dwight Howard I just I can't say enough about how much Dwight Howard has meant to this Lakers team.
Lakers would not be five and one without Dwight Howard, and it's so strange to say.
But he has been the biggest surprise for this Lakers team and a very, very welcome surprise stoning to hit their outside shots better than need to hit their three's better tonight.
The Lakers let me see what they were from 36 for 24 from 3 25%.
That's not gonna get the job done on most nights that Spurs luckily, hate shooting threes.
Two are making threes.
They were six for 25 so they were 24% a shot even worse than the Lakers.
But when the Lakers go up against teams that can shoot the three vault, they need to hit their three suit just to keep up with them.
And that's the biggest concern I have. Right now.
It's just Lakers need to start hitting their open shots.
They have so many players on their team that have just been struggling so far.
I talked about that in the pregame pregame preview but again, Troy Daniels.
He was over to only shot 13 Played 14 minutes.
He didn't really do anything because defensively, he he's not a defensive player.
He doesn't distribute it.
Zero says he had 14 in 14 minutes.
1 steal and that was it.
For stats for him and 14 minutes just doesn't do much.
Alex Caruso didn't have that great of a game, although I do think on defense he still played pretty well offensively.
Two points, one of three shooting.
He was over one from three.
Koosman was one for four on three, so he didn't get his 1st 3 of the year.
But it was on a lucky shot.
Three seconds left.
He launched it up from a little bit in front of half court and ended up taking it in, so he needs to get his three ball going again.
Quinn cook over one on three.
Uh, who else? Contagious follow, hoping a pretty nice game.
He had 14 points and some big shots down the stretch.
She was playing for the Lakers down the stretch, which I didn't feel too comfortable about.
But then he ended up getting his shots, so I'm happy he can play in crunch time. As long as he's hitting.
Hitting his shots.
Who knew? So, Yeah, that pretty much does it for tonight's postgame wrap up.
Avery Bradley had a nice game, shooting 16.
7 of nine shooting, three rebounds.
His one assist was on a really nice lob toe.
Dwight, where he dunked it over Jacome, Pirtle.
Avery Bradley did leave the game with a few minutes left.
He had a lower leg injury, which they ended up.
They got X rays.
That was negative, he'd said in his interview.
He's going to be fine, so hopefully he is able to play next game.
Otherwise, I would expect out screw, so to start.
