And welcome to the first episode of the full press coverage Patriots kickoff show.
I am Ian Glendon Above me is Mr Hal Ben Diagonally is Ah, Mr Chris Simino.
And ah, not pictured on video is Ah, Mr Mike Debate full press covered Patriots managing editor.
How you doing today, fellas? That's that's great to hear.
Well, um, unfortunately, Mike does not have a camera.
I know some people have started to question his existence.
I ah, I assure you, he is not just a collection of, ah, Godfather quotes and and cut up pieces of eighties song.
So he Israel, he is legit.
He is just not on camera right now, So I assure you, he is He is there.
So, guys, we got Sunday night football tonight.
It's patriots. It's ravens.
My voice is absolutely shot right now, so I'm gonna power through this.
So I I'm glad we have three folks on here today.
That all we're gonna talk about the Patriots because ah, give me a break.
But, um, first off, what do you guys think? I'm gonna throw it up too? How? First? Because he looks eager to speak right now, and, um, I I want to take a break and make sure all this audio is working.
So, uh, guys, what do you think coming into this Ravens game? Is this really the first big test for the Patriots? Well, is that the Ravens are back to full strength.
Auras closest they get to in the secondary.
They should have Earl Thomas playing.
They're gonna have Jimmy Smith back for the first time since the first quarter of week one.
And you've got Marlon and Humphries who's been fantastic with Smith out.
And now all of a sudden, the Ravens are looking like they're past defense, which was such a problem in the first half of the season.
Is now long, long and goes for deep, just like patriot secondary.
So I'm so excited to see this Tom Brady can move the ball.
Yeah, great sign doing yeah, and I think that's something we're all looking for.
Two is just exactly how this New England Patriots offense responds.
I mean, we all know and Mike actually inform us right before we got on the air that Ah, tequila.
Harry is not playing tonight, So unfortunately, we're not going to see his debut.
Um, same question to you, Chris.
Just you know, what are you looking forward to in this matchup in? Do you truly believe this is the first big test for the Patriots? I think last week we saw maybe a little bit of a *** in the armor with a run defense.
Chuck had his way, and I know that.
You know, Cleveland doesn't good job in the run game.
They were running away to the head coach, so that's one of the teams that I knew could give them some trouble.
But Baltimore has a special kind of running game, because when you got Lamar Jackson with also with the power back like Ingram, I think that's going to give the Patriots in trouble and it's gonna keep on their toes.
The one thing that Patriots do have going for them is there talk, right, pass defense and the thing with Baltimore's.
I just don't think they're quite ready in the passing game to be able to deal with the Patriots over the course of a full game.
I think that they're gonna make plays.
I think this time jazz is the most part.
I think the pages will men keep that running game somewhat under control and not allow big plays? And then eventually, the Patriots offense is going to break through some big plays because Baltimore yes can stop the run.
But their past defense is is very, very average.
Have not terrible, to be honest, they're actually ranked 27th in the league in the past.
So I think the Patriots have a very good chance toe win the game and probably winning.
Going away towards the end as the passing games we've noticed, they kind of get going as the game goes on.
I think that would be that type of situation again tonight.
Now, actually, I'm gonna follow up on something that you said because you said, obviously, Bradley Chub was able to gain some yards against this Patriots defense.
Now, do you think that was more of Ah ah, Patriots deciding that they wanted to take away? Ah, the past game and they allowed Bradley Chub to get some yardage on the ground because I believe that first big play where it gained, um, I want to say 36 37 yards.
I think they had something like six defensive backs on the field.
So clearly they were, you know, it seems like they were a little bit more focused on the past.
Do you think that was the case in that game? And you think that's Ah, you know, kind of skewing the opinion a little bit? It could be, and that's what I think we're gonna find out tonight.
I think that's what the real test is in this game because he had that big run.
But there was also a lot of good chunk yardage runs that he had later on in the game.
567 yard plays that used picking up it and seemed like they were kind of cutting through the Patriotsdefensive line easier than anybody else has a since I a year, but I just don't think that's going to be the case tonight.
I think the Patriots will figure it out.
It's a different kind of running game, you know, the quarterback running the ball in the power back a little bit different.
I know chubs that power, but he's he's a lot different type of back than Ingram is.
So I just think the Patriots will build Anil Ingrams style a little bit better.
The only thing that concerns me sometimes is this Jackson.
But I think that the Patriots speed at linebacker and the depth they have a linebacker and be able to spy him, I think they'll be able to figure it out.
Plus, I don't think the Ravens have enough in the past game, so that should take some of the secondary focus on Jackson under control so he doesn't kill them in the running game.
Yeah, and ah, And again, that Z I think gonna be the main focus of this is obviously the running game, but also, uh, keeping Lamar Jackson out of what he does best.
And that's, you know, obviously being able to make plays on his legs as well as in the air.
So if you could make him a one dimensional pocket passer, I think the Patriots are doing a pretty good job.
So, uh, Mike, I'm gonna ask you because you obviously told us right before we got on the air.
That nickel Harry and gonna roll off Chef ski are both out of the lineup tonight.
So where do you think the patriots they're going to just in terms of Who do you think's gonna pick up some more targets? And what did they do in the ah, punt return and kick return game? Mike, Mike, I apologize.
I'm gonna have to stop you because no one can hear what you're saying right now.
So, folks, if you just heard it Look, if you just heard a little bit of silence, that is because Mike's ah, Mike was not working.
Hold the phone there, Mike.
I will figure this out.
I will actually fill this question of the how while I try to figure out this my question Where do you think the patriots go? Ah, with obviously Harry not making his debut and ah, got it or not being able to go in return punts? Nothing.
Some of those non athletic inside line? No.
And I think from a confidence standpoint to it's gonna it would be nice to see this team you know, run a little bit more efficiently because we've seen it struggle at times and really, um, not be what it was last year.
Now again, we can we can talk about the offensive line being what it is and in limiting what they do in that sense.
But, um, you know, I I would really like to see that happen, because again, you know that when you have a team that's eight No, that's really playing as well as they are.
You really gotta find things that really stick out.
And that's something that at the end of the year playoff time, you need to be able to gain those heart hard yards and those yards that they just aren't getting at this time.
So, um, Chris, I'm gonna ask you because I'm still working with Mike's audio here.
Ah, the Red Zone offense has obviously been a struggle for the Patriots this year.
There was problems last year, but it's really taking a step back this year.
Do you think Harry is someone who obviously he's not playing tonight? But do you think long term is he someone who could really help this offense in the red zone and obviously continue connection with Mohammad Sanu? And that's that's something Hopefully we're going to see tonight.
So do you expect these red zone issues to start working themselves out in the latter half of the season? I do.
I think they'll work themselves.
I think one of the reasons it's gonna work itself own.
It's not even you knew Carrie.
I think it's gonna go back, back healthy Isaiah Win.
And they have an offensive line that can actually run the ball in the red zone also because right now and they get into short yardage situations, they simply can't move the ball because they don't have the Jimmy's and Joe's to make it happen.
It's not a scheme thing.
They just don't have the guys right now healthy.
So getting Jack Mason back this weekend, then we'll make a big difference in the running game.
But again, when they get went back in there, that's not just gonna help the running game US help passing into because when Brady has play action in the red zone, he's so deadly, and right now they just don't have that on Kill Harry.
I do think it's gonna add a lot.
His athleticism is off the charts and this is there's no way you can help them.
Just the fact that he's gonna draw defenders away from of the guys is gonna open things up on the need for certain players like White Michelle and guys like that and Seenu, I actually do think we'll see tonight difference with Brady Anderson, who have another week of practice under their belts Now that makes a big difference at that game experienced out from the goal office, I thought we had a chance to take a look susceptible areas in the red zone as faras Baltimore's concern, which they definitely are.
So I definitely think so.
New is gonna have a huge effect on the red zone, but I think it's gonna be coming down first of the offensive line and getting them healthy and once that happens, will see it a big difference.
No, I think I think that's one of the reasons to why a lot of people have a lot of quiet confidence that they're going to figure it out because it's not so much scheme or personnel related.
That lack of skill, it's it's just lack of certain personnel like Isaiah when who's gonna make a huge difference in in the run game in the past game.
So, um, I think I have fixed the problem.
So Michael, I'm gonna ask you, what are you looking forward to Ah, in this game and ah, obviously what? What? What are you looking to take away from this? Is this gonna be a big tell all if the Patriots come away with a victory in this game and Philip Door set will also probably take on a little bit more responsibility with the reception's in the absence of tequila therapy.
He can always be counted on to hit a couple of key plays James last year.
But it will leave a bitter taste in their mouth heading into the bye week that could light a fire under this team going down.
So keep in mind that there's always a silver lining to everything that comes out.
I do expect the Patriots toe win tonight, but again, it's a situation where this team is playing at home playing with a lot of confidence, and they have the ability to rip off run plays.
The Patriots are gonna have to control the run if they want to be successful.
Yeah, I think that's clearly the biggest thing that we're all looking at because I think it would be unanimous among us that the Patriotssecond areas is probably the best secondary in the league, so there's no concern when it comes to me about what they can handle.
We've seen it not only this year, but, yeah, we saw it in the Super Bowl.
We saw it in the A F C championship game.
Despite what she's fans say they I did hold them to seven points and 3/4 and shut them out.
Holding Tyree kill two.
What was that 111 catch for a 10 yard or whatever it was? Ah, very, very small amount.
So, again, this is This is a team that's that's proven it against incredibly good receivers.
And you know, I'm not too concerned about that.
Like Chris part up before watching what Bradley chub good last week does make you pause a little bit because you don't want to see the Patriots become a team that struggles against the run.
Because you look at Kansas City.
They have a pretty good run T run game in terms of not just the running backs but, of course, the short passing game and how they utilize that with their speed.
And some of these other teams like Baltimore, that can run the run the ball.
So, um I'm going to take a moment, real quick moment to pat myself on the back because for the 1st 10 minutes of the show, I have been struggling mightily, trying to juggle everyone's audio.
I have finally fixed the entire problem.
Everyone's coming in nice and clear.
No one's overlapping.
There's no echo.
So, uh, pat myself on the back, you know, like I said, it's a tough job back here trying to do what I do.
But, uh, no, I'm just glad that Mike is finally on here being able to talk to us because, uh, what would the show be without Mike R F P C Patriots managing editor? Oh, before we could some respect, you know, believe Like I said before we shut the old Like I said, uh, I I don't I don't have.
Unfortunately, I don't have the sound bites hooked up that would that would cause a whole bunch of other problems for, um four for me trying to juggle all this audio.
So that's all right Anywhere.
Anyone who's listen to the two of us on the phone knows that I am a human sound board anyway, So that's right.
Don't worry about that I could provide the drops when needed. Exactly.
So I'll just I'll keep you up.
Just keep an eye out.
Mike, if you see me point just know that you got to do something.
So, um, anyways, eso go.
Let's let's stick to the offense right now.
And I think, um, you know, obviously the Patriots decided to walk away from Josh Gordon.
And, um, there's a possibility this possibility may have heard.
You may have been late to some meetings, some things that might have been cropping up, that they may have seen some warning signs that they didn't like, Um and they just weren't gonna put up with that this year.
They just working day, we're going to do it.
He was on a true one strike policy, and that's it.
So something had to happen.
And then, you remember, well, he's played how many games since 2013.
And, you know, look at some of these other players that you miss a one full year and you lose a step.
Well, he's lost three full four full years out of the last six, and I think it's noticeable, just not the same guy I used to be.
Yeah, he's a workout warrior.
Even then, you can tell, but I think that's all.
These becomes a workout warrior.
So Seattle picks up a guy that didn't even commit help them out a little bit.
She had also might have picked up a guy that's going to be suspended in two weeks now because maybe something's going on that we just don't know about.
So I think some fortunate situation for the Patriots think it's unfortunate situation, but wouldn't, um, But there's definitely something had to have happened that triggered it, not just an injury, because he was healthy.
He was surprised his agents were surprised in the whole thing.
Kim's a surprise to him, so I think it's the Patriots is being what they are, having the foresight to say, You know what? We don't want to go through this again.
Let's just nip in the bud now.
Well, and that's the thing to we.
We all know that the Patriots, they're not.
They're not going to shy away from making a move that, you know, others would be looked satiated.
Jamie Collins, in the middle of the year where we thought he was eligible for a big raise.
So, um, it's in.
Speaking of Seattle, they're currently in overtime right now with the Buccaneers, 34 34 it looks like Ikea.
Metcalf just dropped a what would have set up a game winning field goal, catch it down close to the end zone.
So maybe maybe Josh Gordon can help him.
And look, I was I was kind of surprised that there were they They were the only team that claimed him.
Um, I would have thought for sure that he wasn't gonna make it past Oakland just because I think Oakland needed receiver help.
And that seems to be ah, very Oakland Raiders roof on.
It would have probably been a good move for them, but, um, one team is that surprise you handle or Chris are bike? Not at all.
How do you want to help? You want to take this when you want to get this one? That claim, You know? I mean, when he left Cleveland for New England, he was kind of the storyline was the re half of it is gonna work here, or it's not gonna work any ever.
It didn't work here, and I fully expect nobody would pick him up at all and was very surprised that Seattle went where they already have Metcalf as that big outside receiver and added it, Gordon.
So I'm not sure what Seattle is expecting.
I'm not sure what they're gonna get out of him at this point.
I think a lot of it, too, for the Patriots, was just We're getting the same production from Jacoby Meyers, though.
What's the point of bored in here? Myers can get open.
Doesn't have that seat, either.
Does Gordon? He's the same receiver right now.
Go younger, Cheaper at the position.
Typical Bill Belichick.
Look, any opportunity to get Philip Door sent more snaps out there. I am.
I am all for us, without question and you own a great point.
I'm so glad you made the point about Jacoby Meyers because I think that's really the key in the catalyst.
All this Jacoby Meyers is giving them similar, if not better production out of the position than they were getting for Gordon.
And I think Chris also made an interesting point when it comes to things behind the scenes that maybe we don't know about the scuttlebutt coming out of New England coming out of Fox Burrow immediately after the release that this in no way at anything to do with Josh relapsing or anything of that type, they pretty much quelled that right away.
However, it's a big eye opener when a guy with Josh's talent goes through the waiver wire and is not claimed until the 27 28 team on the list, when players could have taken a very easy caf it to be able to do it with the risk that he's walking away, they could have got a compensatory draft pick.
It's almost like a free draft pick.
If something doesn't work out, it's okay.
Move on and that's it.
And there's really no other you know, Los.
Other than maybe a $1,000,000 worth of cap space on this year alone.
It does being to the volumes there.
We've been talking about it, his conditioning.
You've noticed the difference in conditioning and there were a lot of people that noticed that early on with Josh, he seem to be laboring a little bit, Maur to run routes to get free, to be ableto run and get down the field.
He is in good shape in terms of working out, and Chris called him a workout warrior, and I think that's pretty, uh, pretty accurate.
But there's a difference between in game conditioning and being in good shape.
You have to know the difference between the two.
And I think there's a lot of rust on Josh and Chris.
I think you articulated that very well.
Look, the Patriots are going to be fine. They're wide.
Receiving corps is going to be okay.
Even with the loss of Josh Gordon, Even with loss of Antonio proud a couple of months ago, you're still looking at a hellhole.
It's employing Julian Edelman.
I'm sorry, I said, There's still hope.
I know there's still hope.
You you You are beating that 0.
0 000 Actually, you know, I I don't get I don't give it a John Blue Starsky.
I think it's probably more like a like a Dorfman like a flounder.
6 fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.
I think we're arrived at that very rarely, however.
Well, it was a lot of ways, but in any case, there is talent at that position.
Akil Harry's return a little disappointed that we didn't see him, but look earlier in the week unlocked on.
When I talked to a couple of our guests, I had basically said that I thought it was 60 40 that they weren't going to plan.
Um, and it doesn't shock me that they didn't GE.
Later on in the week, I started to come around and say that they would and how, By Friday, I believe that they would.
He had his bag packed.
Usually the Patriots don't sip guys out like that, But I think it's important for the rookie to get act committed to the road.
And I think that's why they wanted him out there on the road with, um, he'll be a great addition to this team.
I watched him in training camp.
He's a young physical receiver, could go up, make contested and catches.
It is gonna give this team a little bit of a look that they haven't seen in a while, so I look forward to seeing him out on the field.
But tonight again door set, Myers Edelman and Mohamed Sanu.
I look forward to have a big game as well.
I mean, look, I mean, I I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely excited to see Mohammed Sunu.
We saw a nice catch down the sideline towards the end of the game last week.
And, uh, you know, just going into the game to seeing that it was pouring rain.
I was like, You know what? Don't get your hopes up.
This is probably gonna be a pretty, you know, relative to the Patriots lackluster offensive performance which, you know, resulted in another blow win.
But you know what I mean? It just there weren't gonna throw out all the bells and whistles in a game that you could have easily got Tom Brady injured because of lack of experience on that line.
So I'm really looking forward to Mohammad Sanu.
And yes, I can wait a couple more weeks for Ah, for Nicky Will, Harry.
And again you think about in a couple more weeks, you're talking about potentially getting I say I went back and Nick Eel, Harry, and all of a sudden this patriots offense that, you know it is quote unquote struggling is looking pretty, uh, pretty, pretty good.
And um, you know, and I think that's what we all expect in Ah, despite what most people on Twitter hope is, the case, which is the Patriots offense has taken a massive step back.
And I'm sorry, folks, it's it's just not gonna happen.
And ah, you know, if it did, well, you're kind of at, you know, crap out of luck because the Patriots defense has decided to become all world overnight.
And, um, it doesn't matter how good this offense is because the Patriots events is gonna make up for it.
So, um, let's get Let's ah, in a way, get down to the trenches Because I know how you spend a lot of time breaking down a lot of these matchups and I know you love your defensive and offensive line play.
I know you all you guys do, Really I mean, it's it's it's really the meat and potatoes of this game, and I love watching it.
We just mentioned I say when obviously potentially coming back.
Um, what do you guys see as Thea? And I'll start with how What do you see is the biggest matchup on that line and for the Patriots defensively, going against this offense? Yeah, for the Patriots.
I'm you know, the offensive line is so strong for Baltimore all the way across the board. They have.
They have great tackles.
Marshal Yanda is what 12th season now, Still one of the players at his position and the Patriots defense.
If you have one thing that you could say was, the problem with this defense is it doesn't have that one guy, that team's game play more about that one Lawrence Taylor pass rusher that they can throw out there and he's gonna go get 1/4 for a matter of blood.
So the turn is that we're gonna be the discipline Patriots defense on the defensive line.
You'll see a lot of the work to contain Jackson in the pocket.
Force him to throw the ball in the pocket as much as possible.
But they're not in there, you know, with all the tight ass.
Eventually, they're gonna work there so open against the Patriots, lying back Linebacker is a good.
They're just not great in coverage.
And that's something that if the Patriots get the pressure on Jackson and get some sacks while keeping him contained in the pocket.
He may be able to pick apart that defense a little.
I think we saw it last week in Cleveland.
The touch down with gone toe high tower coverage.
It was decent coverage.
But again, if if I'm the quarterback doing gets the Patriots, I'm looking for a linebacker every single time because those cornerbacks, they're just Aloha, Stoppard.
You don't do anything against them.
No. Absolutely not.
So I guess the reverse question for you, Chris.
What? What is the Patriots offensive line? That is obviously very short hand.
It's still at the moment do against this Baltimore front that is gonna try toe rough Brady up and get him off his mark.
They got to get the ball the hell out of there.
What they dio I can't wait to get out of there, then getting it out of there quick.
Um, you're gonna have to see the screen game come out tonight.
They gotta uses their advantage.
They have to use Baltimore's aggressiveness against them in order to take advantage of what they're gonna do on offense.
Get them on the heels a little bit.
They can do that. That's on.
You are not a guarantee that they could do that.
One thing about the Harbaugh that he understands that, and I know it's all quarterbacks but specifically with Brady of you could get that middle pass, rush up the A gaps, get him off the spot.
He starts to really struggling.
As we see him get a little bit older, it gets worse.
So without having a run game, really, because I don't think they're gonna have much of a run game against this defense tonight.
I do think it's imperative that they do a good job of protecting inside.
I think they're gonna have to devote an extra tight end in the past, blocking pretty much the entire game, just to make sure that they're keeping him operate.
That's what it's gonna come down to.
Can they protect? And can they get that thing out of there fast enough? And then they get that defense on the heels? Um, just one thing too quick, said the boat.
Little concern of mine patriots are there there, Amanda me and secondary.
If he's in defeating the quarterback tonight, they're not gonna be able to really play me in them, and they're gonna have to play a lot of the zone, and that concerns me a little bit because it's not this strength.
So one of the things I think they might try to do is use Chung as a spy on Jackson because if they're going to be in the zone, Chung Beastly becomes a line backer backer at that point.
So I think that might be something you see tonight.
So it's one that could put that out there.
That's one of my slight concerns.
What the defense is there gonna be more in zone than mad that I actually have a good follow up for that? Because do you think tonight we're going to see a little bit more? But the Patriots defensive old receive maybe a little bit more Ben don't break because on the flip side, offensively, I feel like we're going to get a 40 plus pass attempt game from Brady.
And again, that's a lot of, you know, dump offs to James White little crossing patterns to offset that pass rush.
On the flip side, I feel like the defense, like you said, isn't gonna necessarily try to play, man, you know, maybe they do at times, but I I think they're going to start out.
Maybe tryingto work that contain was against Lamar Jackson.
So do you think we're going to see a little bit more yardage gained on this team tonight? Although maybe the point, a little neck stay low.
I think that's probably gonna be the plan.
I think can't ask you to the quarterback like this.
I mean, I I wanted to look back in the archives.
They didn't get back to it.
I just didn't have time because I just don't have enough of it.
But, um, think about but Michael Vick.
I mean, he's the type of guy that is basically a Michael Vick type player he had throwing it Could.
I think Victor's a little bit more dangerous in the passing game than Jackson is right now.
And I think just overall, Vic was ist that time's just ridiculously great.
Um, but if you look at what Vic could do is the same thing.
Jackson d'oh! And the thing that's scary about Jackson is he's actually bigger and stronger, so you could break tackles.
So it's just one of those things where they get a tackle.
Well, tonight we talked to book this year, and I talked about this in the pregame show.
They have to maintain the gap responsibility, do the things that they do.
Giving up over four yards.
Four and 1/2 yards.
Carrie, keep that thing under four yards a carry, and you'd be okay.
Don't give up Huge gash plays 10 15 yards back to back to back.
Because once SS that happen, you start to give their offensive line all the momentum set to get them confident.
And then next thing you know, the Patriots are in trouble.
So, um, time of possession is gonna be huge tonight.
That's one thing to watch for tonight in this game.
If the Patriots time of possession is way down, that's gonna be a problem.
And I actually agree with what you said is both the passing game.
I think they're gonna spread him out tonight.
Ah, what a five wide lot of full no doubles on the side.
I think they're gonna have to do that to keep these guys honest.
And the problem is with Baltimore's this secondary again, you know, the healthy.
But they're not that good.
They have not been that good this year.
they got ripped apart by Patrick Holmes back and they play the Chiefs that the Patriots don't have the same weapons that the Chiefs have.
But they also didn't that Tyree killing that game when they tore apart Baltimore.
So I think the pages have good dammit.
Yeah, soon making rarely a parade.
Well, my, my, my, my thighs.
Just coming into this guy was that you knew was gonna have a pretty big game because we know how these things go.
We saw what happened and we to, ah, against Miami.
They made an attempt to get Antonio Brown involved.
And again, you know, a CZ good is Mohammed Sunu is he's not Antonio Brown.
So we can't expect that instant what felt like a really good connection right off the bat.
However, I have a lot of optimism for this because I, I feel like Seenu is is is a smart enough player at a position at a and the style of receiver that he is, that Brady is really looking forward, especially without a guy like Rob Gronkowski, who you can rely on to catch those balls in the middle and kind of, you know, stretch that defense a little bit, and I'm not talking about over the top play, but just in terms of size and body, I think that's kind of what they were hoping to get out of. Josh Gordon.
I think Mohammad Sanu is is right now a better player.
So I think we're really going to see that click today are tonight against Baltimore, and And look, you know, at the end of the day, if you're rolling out Ah, for what? Wide receiver set of Edelman, Um, Sinuhe, Door set.
And Ah, Jacoby Meyers.
I'm feeling pretty good because not only do you have that, but you also have the group of running backs that that come with it.
And of course, you know Ben Watson is not so bad himself.
So, um, of course, I would have been excited to see Harry even if he wasn't there.
I don't think they would have really got him evolved that much, because again, I think they're gonna focus on trying to get some new AC terminated, especially heading into this bye week, because you know what's better for Bill Belichick than a bunch of teaching moments? So ah, you get a new involved early and often.
There's gonna be a lot of opportunity to teach and learn over the next two weeks as they try to build this chemistry between the two.
So, um, Mike, I know you're itching, itching t to talk a little bit here.
I can sense it right now.
It's tze part of the brain waves that we share.
So, um yeah, let's psychic ESPN things you can't day ago, ESPN.
Um so, uh, I'll just ah, kind of a ***ue question cause they were the ones about the line.
Is there anything that really sticks out to you in terms of, um, what do you want to see specifically from this offense? I know we're talking about, Ah, a lot of quick passing and whatnot.
Is there anything in particular that you want to see You be a little bit more efficient outside of the past blocking and the run blocking? Because waken all say that that's the case we want to see.
I mean, obviously there's the white outfit in the room.
Is the Patriots getting the running game going? And look, we've talked about the run blocking.
We talked about the past blocking, and we talked about the offensive line and things that have been a difficulty.
What I would like to see happen is I would like to see Sonia Michelle be a little bit more consistent now.
At that point, I'm well aware of the difficulties they've had on the offensive line, and there's no question about that.
I would like to see some task catching may be out of the backfield from Rex Burkhead each.
It's a little towns in order to be able to advance the ball.
He will be active in tonight's game, so that's something to keep an eye on.
Birkhead is someone that they can rely on and can be counted on to, you know, carry the ball and get big yardage when they need Thio and he's not.
He's not against running the ball into the end zone when he needs to do that as well.
Again, I mentioned James White earlier on and I think he's going to be so key for this offense in being able to keep the Ravens defense off.
You know their pass defense has not been good, but we've talked about in hell.
Open the show by saying that they're going to be ethical strength.
They're gonna have Jimmy Smith back.
It's his first game back, so you're wondering how much he's gonna be able to contribute.
But you gotta figure he's in there.
You have to figure he's going to be the Jimmy Smith that everybody's used to.
Um, Orel Thomas will be active.
He will be in there.
Marcus Peters, Humphries.
All these guys that they have in the back field that are able to make plays are going to make the Patriot's past defense that much more difficult.
That being said, it's still their unity able to be in this team because to run the ball against a defensive line that has done a tremendous job of being able to contain it is like banging your head against the wall.
They may not find the openings that they need to, and if that's the case, they have to rely on play action.
They have to rely on the passing game and they have to try to attack Chris.
I thought you made an excellent excellent point about needing uh on the defensive side about the Patriots needing to play zone as a opposed to needing to play.
That is a big concern of mine.
That's something I've been talking about all week on lock down.
It's not part of their strength, so definitely keep a sharp eye on that and find out how they're going to use.
Some of these guys would be interesting to see if a guy like Chung is going to be a spy tonight playing a pseudo linebacker position.
I can definitely see that in order for them to try to quell that.
But on offense, defense, those are my biggest concerns.
If I'm on offense, the running game is a big concern of mine.
If you can get that going, that's gonna turn the Patriots often.
And it's gonna make things a lot easier for Brady in the passing game and opening up things in play action.
If I'm on defense, it's that switch between man and zone.
You have to play that very, very carefully.
Otherwise, if you make the wrong move, things could end up unraveling pretty quickly.
So those are the two things I'm watching tonight with maybe a few bitten nails.
If I'm patriots, well, you got to save that energy because we will be on the air tomorrow to talk about it and on two platforms, if I remember correctly.
So, um, we're about 30 minutes away from kickoff here, So, uh, we're gonna throw it around everyone if you want to give out a prediction.
I don't know if some of you guys are a little uneasy about giving score predictions.
You can You can plead the fifth on that.
Yeah, I see how chomping at the bit to give his production.
I like the confidence you got.
You gotta own it because I'm gonna own what I said this morning because I don't have a choice, because you could go back and say it, so I'll start.
Um, I I feel really, really good about this game.
A lot of things that we talked about in terms of how the Patriots are going to play the ravensoffense.
It's about keeping your gap straight.
You know, making sure you don't don't lose.
Contain Don't Lamar Jackson dictate where he where their offense goes, contain them and place, um, pretty effective zone defense.
And you're gonna have a pretty good time against this team.
and and And the lady you get in the games, the more desperate you get.
Make that team, the more you can ship back to what you're comfortable with, and that's gonna cause some turn over.
So I think the Patriots are gonna capitalize on it.
I think the offense is really gonna play to AA level that we haven't seen in a few weeks.
I think a lot of that has to do with Mohammad Sanu, and I think they win this game 36 to 10.
So I'll let how go? Because again, he looks excited to give his score.
So I let him go.
You know, I already gave out my score.
I do the sports currents, podcasting, tweet, my buddy David.
And you know the two words that the crap out of me this week is Nick folk.
And I just you know Oh, I'm just picturing a close game.
It comes down to the end and he goes one of those Shankar brewskis like Ben A tip it today for the thought, the game there, And so I think it's gonna be close.
I don't like the Patriots and zone.
I don't think they have somebody that can stay bye on Lamar Jackson and matches that Leavitt.
I don't think Jamie Collins is the guy.
I I'm really not sure that young is either, where he's been banged up the last couple of weeks as well.
You know, Jonathan Jones has the speed, but I don't think he has the size.
I can see Jackson running out of tackles there as well, so I'm I'm very worried about this.
This game, concerned about the passing attack with the Ravens owe their defense, is stunk, but in the passing game and statistically great running game.
But they're a flute, really.
It's all a big mirage out of them this year.
They're they're really not good against the run, and they really are good against the pass right now.
So I just don't see this game playing for the Patriots strength, and I'm actually picking the Knicks folk miss at the end of the show, 24 21 hoof.
Is that some Ah, some like throwback Thio, Baltimore and New England of yesteryear.
You know, a little redemption for about Baltimore 1007.
Well, in that case, we need Steve Belichick tohave a ill, ill advised time out towards the end of the game to give.
Give the Patriots an opportunity to miss that field goal.
So, Chris, I'm gonna throw it to you.
Woody, how do you think this game plays out? What your score prediction.
I think it's gonna be just like it's been all season.
I think the athleticism of the Patriots defense is going to slowly but surely make plays and where these guys down in Baltimore.
I think that Lamar Jackson is going to make some place in the running game for nothing.
Like, You know, I don't think I put in the thirties or anything like that.
But I think the Patriots will on offense, will start a little bit slow.
Figure out how they can attack these guys the best.
And then, like I said, get them on the heels a little bit as a game that's going in the passing game.
Well, possibly even the running game is how mentioned.
You know, some and I know what I was saying.
I agree with him on that.
They are a bit of a mirage right now because the injuries that had guys coming back, who knows? Maybe the Patriots feel confident to be able to run the ball against this Baltimore team, but I have confidence that they're gonna find a way to put the ball in the end zone.
I had the Patriots win in this game by a score of 28 to 18.
I think that Baltimore will score some points, but ultimately I think the pages to pull away in the fourth quarter and then pick up the one about you. Mike.
Well, Howe and I are identical in terms of score prediction.
The only difference is I'm on the opposite side of it.
I do believe that Nick Folk is gonna hit a field goal in this game.
I just think it's gonna be very early on, and I think you're gonna see the Patriots abandoned, go for field goals, see them go forward on fourth down a lot tonight, and I believe they will do that.
Three keys to me for the Patriots winning this game, spread them out.
I think that's gonna be huge for this ballclub.
We talked about it earlier.
They'll go to a four wide look.
You may even see them go to a five wide.
At times you know, with maybe one of the tight ends playing in that receiver position.
Um, I do believe that they're going to try to limit the running game for Baltimore.
That's easier said than done.
But ultimately, I think that defense this year is better equipped to be able to handle a athletic quarterback and some of the runners that the Baltimore Ravens employed, particularly Mark Ingram and also something that we haven't talked a whole lot about tonight.
And that is the Patriots defense forcing a turnover.
They've been so good at that this year.
I think that continues.
I do believe that even though Lamar Jackson is a little bit of a different quarterback than they're used to, I do believe that his youth and experience, coupled with a Bill Belichick type coach defense, is gonna be a recipe for maybe catching the turnover.
And they do that.
The Patriots in this in a close 1 20 4 21 Well, I like it because I I look like I'm the top end of the spectrum and howl obviously balances me out with Chris and Mike right there in the middle with some some really well thought out process you know? Ah, game ****ysis me.
I'm just going off the rails here, thinking they're gonna blow them out.
So, um, no, this is great.
I'm excited for this game.
I think we're all really been looking forward to it.
I mean, whenever the Ravens and, um, Patriots get together, there's always something real quick, actually.
Do you guys think that there's gonna be a wide receiver passed in this game? Because I know they're patriots, and I know that they love to really kind of stick it to Jim Harbaugh, John Harba as much as they can.
Do you think we're going to see any sort of trickery? In that sense? Go ahead. Anyone can answer.
Knew Right off the bat.
Eligible pass It goes, animal man roaming across the field to see new.
And that's the new throws it back.
That's where I nice.
And I actually think they're going to do it double.
And you know who the wide receiver I believe is gonna be throwing the past tonight.
Keep in mind, this guy did it in college.
It's not that far fetched, folks.
I believe that if the Patriots are looking to try to catch this team off guard.
You may see that happen.
Don't be shocked to see it happen early.
I think that could be a big surprise for a lot of people.
A lot of people expected.
It's maybe later in the game.
I think it could happen early.
I think they could look to put the Baltimore Ravens on notice, but yeah, ultimately, I think there will be a trickery.
Look, it wouldn't shock me to Seattle and horse a new throw the fast, either.
Yeah, I love it.
I love trick plays, especially the Patriots and against the Ravens, because it always brings back good memories.
So, guys, thank you very much to those out there.
