everyone.
00:00:07
Thanks for tuning in in this stream.
00:00:09
I'm going to be going over the Lakers Mavericks match up tomorrow night in Dallas and now usually I do my pregame streams the same day of the game.
00:00:20
But I had a little extra time, so I decided I'd do it tonight.
00:00:23
Really excited about this game, because this marks the return of Kyle Kuzma and excuse me for one second while I get a drink of water.
00:00:34
So Kyle Kuzma is returning for.
00:00:37
The Lakers are not expecting him to play big minutes, I think probably somewhere between 20 maybe upwards of 25 minutes.
00:00:45
But it's gonna be good to see him get back and just see how he fits with the Lakers team.
00:00:50
I think that Hey, obviously, like I said, he's coming off of the bench.
00:00:55
But he's gonna provide spacing for the Lakers.
00:00:57
Hopefully, as long as he controlled the ball the way that he was for Team USA, he is also going to be not just providing facing but also his ability to cut off the ball.
00:01:10
So when LeBron has the ball, if Anthony Davis and LeBron are doing pick and roll, Kuzma is really good at being able to cut off the ball and finish in near the rim.
00:01:19
That's something that he took a big step forward last year.
00:01:23
Unfortunately, last year, he also took a big step backward in his ability to shoot from the outside.
00:01:28
So hopefully that changes against the Mavericks tomorrow night.
00:01:31
But it's his first game back, so I'm expecting it to be a little bit rusty and expecting his conditioning to not be completely there.
00:01:39
What? I want to see those.
00:01:40
The Lakers keep running, pick and rolls between LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
00:01:44
JaVale McGee has really underperformed so far throughout the first for five games of the regular season for the Lakers, so it should be a pretty quick hook for him if he continues to underperform.
00:01:57
Dwight Howard has looked phenomenal so far this year.
00:02:01
He has been, I think, actually, yet he has been leading the Lakers in plus my ass this year or positive net rating.
00:02:09
Dwight Howard's net rating when he has LeBron on the court with them, I think, is something around plus 20 so that means over the course of 100 possessions, LeBron and Dwight Howard together on the court average or outscoring their opponents by 20 points.
00:02:25
Dwight Howard and maybe together is something around like 59 points per 100 possessions.
00:02:31
And when LeBron Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard are on the court together, it's around like 53 or something.
00:02:38
So really good numbers from Dwight Howard.
00:02:40
And like I've said on my other streams, he just continues to look better and better.
00:02:44
He keeps moving more and more fluidly, so it's a really positive sign for him.
00:02:50
He's rehabbing himself back from a back surgery that was and mine early, invasive procedure, but still his rehab over the summer.
00:02:59
There's only so much you can do to simulate actual N B A game play.
00:03:03
You just can't simulate it the same way as when you're playing an actual game.
00:03:07
So we've seen with each game, but he's played with the Lakers.
00:03:10
He started to get a little more fluid.
00:03:12
He's gotten a little bit of his athleticism back, but the thing that's been most impressive to me is just his work ethic and his energy.
00:03:20
He's gotten onto the court and especially on the offensive side of things, setting really good screens the difference in screens that he sets from JaVale McGee.
00:03:28
When you watch this game tomorrow night, just watch and you'll notice the difference.
00:03:32
Dwight Howard sets really hard screens that punished offenders that try to go through him, and then he rolls hard to the basket.
00:03:39
Whereas JaVale McGee McGee isn't built the same way as White.
00:03:42
Our but he's a big player is 17.
00:03:45
He's a few inches taller than Dwight.
00:03:47
He should still, as a center, be setting really physical screens.
00:03:50
And he's not.
00:03:51
Dwight Howard is probably gonna get called for one or two illegal screens a game, honestly, Im final that it sets the tone for the Lakers.
00:03:59
He is.
00:04:00
They're big player download that you're not going to get any shots off against him without a really good contest.
00:04:06
He's been really good at contesting players as they come into the paint and just being aggressive, too.
00:04:11
I've said this on other streams, but when JaVale McGee and Anthony Davis are on the court together, they JaVale McGee, for the most part, is kind of just He's not very assertive.
00:04:23
He doesn't want to step on Anthony Davis's toes.
00:04:25
He doesn't know when to he doesn't know when to go after a rebound when to contest the shot, because he doesn't want to be jumping with Anthony Davis because there's no help for the weak side player.
00:04:38
But Dwight Howard doesn't care if he has a shot that he can block.
00:04:41
He goes after it, any rebound he can get.
00:04:43
He goes after that as well, and it's just really good to see the effort that he keeps putting in.
00:04:49
I'm really in heard from what I've seen with him.
00:04:51
I expect that to continue against the Mavericks on the defensive side of the ball, with the Lakers going up against Luca Don Kitchen Kristaps Porzingis, which is one of the top young duos in the n B A.
00:05:03
It's just it's going to be interesting to see how the Lakers guard that pick and roll.
00:05:09
I would expect they can probably even switch that if Anthony Davis is on Luca, don't get that's going to provide a little bit of a Mitch mismatch with Porzingis up against LeBron, forcing its being able to shoot over him, but Porzingis will not be able to back him down.
00:05:23
Anthony Davis will be able to switch on to Luca Don kitsch and guard him.
00:05:30
Even if Donkey True isn't extremely athletic gets by him.
00:05:33
Davis has the quickness and the athleticism to be able to recover and alter his shots.
00:05:38
I said LeBron and Davis switching that pick and roll, but LeBron isn't going to be on Luca, Doctor.
00:05:43
She you don't waste the bronze energy guarding Luca, Doc.
00:05:47
It's It's gonna be Danny Green, which on that probably don't want to switch that too much.
00:05:52
Maybe you hedge that with Anthony Davis.
00:05:54
But if he's forced to switch out on the Luca dockage, I feel really good about Anthony Davis's chances against Luca.
00:06:00
Dunk it.
00:06:01
So those are the big elements in terms of defensively for the Lakers.
00:06:05
Another thing offensively is just seeing how the rotation goes.
00:06:08
This has kind of been something I focused on each time that I've talked about the Lakers preview, and each time I've recaptured two.
00:06:16
Just re capping how the rotation went is I like, frankly, Frank Vogel's rotations better than Luke Walton's rotations.
00:06:24
He staggers his minutes with the starters a lot more, so it's not just the benching it on the floor at once, but with Kyle Kuzma coming back.
00:06:32
I would hope that the lineups where we have either three yards or four guards were Danny Greene's or power forward.
00:06:39
And then we have some combination of like Avery Bradley, Quinn, Cook and can Tedious Caldwell. Pope.
00:06:45
I really hope that's a thing of the past.
00:06:47
And with Kyle Kuzma back, we have enough good front court players now where it can be a thing of the past.
00:06:53
Ideally, I don't even want a three guard lineup out there.
00:06:56
Two guards is bad enough because the Lakers guards aren't even that great.
00:07:01
They each offered something unique that they can bring to the table.
00:07:06
But so I want to see not as many three yard, not any three guard or four guard lineups.
00:07:11
And I also want to see Alex Caruso continue to get more playing time.
00:07:15
It's been a trend that he just gets playing time in the second half.
00:07:18
He doesn't really get too much in the first half, although against the Memphis Grizzlies, if I remember correctly he did get in in the second quarter, I believe it was so hopefully that friend continues.
00:07:29
If he comes in in the first quarter I will be really happy because that shows that Frank Vogel is actually making changes to the Lakers rotation based off of how players were playing.
00:07:40
And that's something that Luke Walton didn't necessarily do, so that would be a seven the right direction for him.
00:07:45
Another thing is Frank Vogel made a comment a little while ago that he likes to take assessing his team's in five game intervals.
00:07:55
So this is the fifth game for the Lakers.
00:07:57
They are three and one right now.
00:07:59
So after this fifth game, we could see some lineup changes coming.
00:08:03
I hope that doesn't involve raised on Rondo coming in the starting lineup because that would be a huge mistake.
00:08:08
But if we were to see Dwight Howard come in at the center position instead of JaVale McGee, I think it's the right decision to make.
00:08:14
In terms of just White.
00:08:16
Howard's a better player than JaVale McGee.
00:08:18
My only concern is if you take the veil McGee out the bench, do you completely lose him because he's already he's a player that just gets demoralized way too easy.
00:08:28
He thinks that he thinks that he should just have stuff given to him.
00:08:32
And last year, when Zoo Box was challenging him for the starting center position, JaVale McGee was moping around.
00:08:38
And the Lakers, for whatever reason, decided to trade zoo bots instead of making JaVale McGee just try to work harder and look if he can get away with it once, he's probably thinking, Why can't I get away with it again? Just mope around and then I'll just be given more time than Dwight Howard.
00:08:54
But that's not how it's gonna work.
00:08:56
I really hope it's not how it's gonna work this year.
00:08:59
JaVale McGee is a much better player than he's shown so far this year, and people talk about well, it doesn't matter who starts.
00:09:06
It matters who finishes.
00:09:08
No, it doesn't matter who starts.
00:09:09
Because for the Lakers this year, for instance, they're starting.
00:09:12
Lineup has played together over three times, more than any other combination of line up for the Los Angeles Lakers.
00:09:19
So, whoever your starters are, they play a lot together.
00:09:23
So you want your best players playing together.
00:09:25
So it makes sense for Dwight Howard to be in the starting lineup again.
00:09:29
My main concern is just if him starting over JaVale McGee means that ****ey is even going to become more demoralized and maybe just is not even worth being in the rotation at all.
00:09:40
And we need to veil McGee.
00:09:41
The Lakers need to bail.
00:09:42
Maybe over the course of this season.
00:09:44
I don't want to jinx anything with Dwight Howard, not what.
00:09:46
He stays healthy, but he is injury prone.
00:09:49
So if he goes down, Lakers really need prevail.
00:09:51
Because Anthony Davis does not want to play the majority of his time at the five.
00:09:55
He's already made that note.
00:09:57
So thank you guys for tuning into this pregame stream pregame stream.

00:09:57
