321 dot this countdown in front of me, Let's say Hey, what's up our body? Tony Castillo filling influencer dot com Fox Sports that gambler Listen, usually do the Eagles thing, but obviously we're going to the Sixers thing tonight.
Sixes played the first game open up the season with the new starting five against Boston Celtics.
They got 107 93 win.
I started off a little slow.
I would definitely say they came out a little flat.
Used to some things.
We used a different lineup.
Ah, but it's getting one.
You know, it was a little shaking.
The beginning looks like they're shooting.
Wasn't really tremendous.
Okay? Looked like they were little all off.
Little lost offensively look like they were basically running into each other.
It almost looked like a repeat from last year.
So where the offense of very Flat, they were trying to overdo it.
There were over thinking themselves, but they finally got it together in the second half.
I thought some of the rotations were a little interesting.
Ah, you know, obviously, Marty's, we thought was gonna be the first guy off the bench, and he was Ah, but Frankie Cork Ma's playing a lot of minutes tonight.
He locked a lot of minutes.
What really surprised me because he's a defensive liability out there and he looked lost even when he was on the floor s o.
I was a little surprised that ah was nice to see Al Horford kind of take your man in the low post a little bit.
I would like to see two buys to get into actual earlier.
He still looked a little lost out there in the beginning.
Ah, it didn't happen for me.
Ah, but the one thing I got to say is is bad.
Ben, you know, we talked about this season.
Who's going to be the guy, right? Who's gonna be the closer? Who's gonna be the guy that's gonna take over the floor? Who's gonna be usually be the guy that take over the court, Who's gonna be the guy to look, too, who, when we need a shot, we need to spark and we need the energy we need.
It was Ben tonight.
It was all bent when a team looked like it was struggling.
Offensively, you're seeing Ben, come on the court.
You shouldn't wave the people off.
You see them go right to the hole.
And that was it.
You know, he put the team on his back in 24 points.
Okay? He did what he was supposed to do a couple of times.
You still, you know, I was thinking the pants little more than he should have shot.
I think you should have just finished a little more.
Ah, let me apologize right now by my allergies are killing me.
So if you see me stuff my nose that that that's going to be all night.
But I will get through this.
But it was nice to see Ben finish.
For the most part.
It was nice to see that I don't care about the three.
You know, we talked about the Ben Special Bet the 65 over and under, you know, was gonna hit 60.
Takes 65 threes this year.
I don't care about the three right now.
What I care first and foremost is that Ben commands the rock and Ben hits the hole and band finishes the play.
And I think that's what was missing last year we have.
That's a bias start off slow.
I gotta get back to him.
He started off slow.
We, you know, get a couple open threes.
He looked flat from the beginning, but he finally got a group a little bit.
Ah, Josh Richardson, Defensive monster.
Right? You've seen a couple blocks? One on Hayward.
Listen, he's 66 A legitimate 66 to guard Gordon Hayward 68 And he was locking him down.
Made a couple key blocks, which was Hughes.
He was getting was like our Marcus.
Smart markets markets in our head, okay? And Josh Richardson gets in to their head.
It was It was a really, really great thing to say.
Let's look at the numbers.
There was eight ties in this game.
The longest Romans 13 points, which was the Sixers. Six.
What? I actually thought there was more because they were going back and forth, especially the second quarter rebound advance.
Boston 41 6 or 62.
So they were winning the glass assist.
So they were paying nothing Times.
Blox Billy seven Boston to Ah, the only thing that turnovers Boston had sent a Philly have 15.
I think they have most of those in the first half.
I think they had 12.
I'm not mistaking the first chance they did clean that up in the second half.
I think that was just ah, learning curve, but I think we'll get through that field goal percentage.
Actually, the Sixers shot better than I thought.
43% was. I was really surprised.
I didn't think they shot that well.
Ah Field goal percentage, 36% for Boston, three point percentage.
They were both future horrible, 26% for Boston, 24% for Philly and free throw percentage, 58% for Boston, which is really bad and 72% from Philly.
Listen, here's the thing that killed May.
I felt like every time I turned around, Jason Tatum was draining.
He's like a six or sniper.
Just making me think about Marquel.
Faults all over again, right? And that was one of the things that was killing me throughout that game.
Uh, you know, halftime.
It was nice to see them going with a lead because I went with the way they started the first sub off thegame was Jason Richardson going for John J? It's going out, James, and it's coming in multi.
Monty's thigh ball coming in for Jo Jo.
Ah, and a seven minute mark.
They swing Howard to the five, obviously.
Ah, you know, whoever goes the center offense looks a little flat.
Bed was given a ball up instead of finishing in the beginning, but he finally worked on that and he came through.
You know what? He's got to fast fouls.
I think the rookie was just excited, you know? He finally got it out of a system again.
Cork boss comes in.
It seems like he never goes out.
He locks 19 minutes tonight.
I'm really surprised he locked 19 minutes.
I was I was not expecting that at all.
It was really interesting.
Uh, Horford goes out with three minutes left.
You know, I was interested to see how the Jo Jo and Al Horford connects. Will work.
We'll get into in a couple of games to see how much there on the floor together at one time.
I don't think it'll be that much.
Ah, with three minutes left in the first half.
Ah, they basically or I mean the second half? They were three for 90 from the outside in the second quarter.
That that's that's pretty bad, eh? So they were definitely not shooting the ball Well.
Ah, but again, people will come in time, you know? Common time.
Right? Um, again, they start.
They comment with starters.
Quirk, Bozz again to start the third quarter.
You have J worship Court watcher in a Scot Jo Jo.
So I was interested in the horror field events.
He sat out a little while.
I call Quinn comes in, What about six minutes left? Because I'm a city kid. Was in hand.
Was like to seek.
I'll go out there. Hated three, give a little spark.
Khan has been around a long time.
Probably about six or seven teams.
It was a nice bench player for the Knicks.
You know, we play for the Pacers.
He's a guy who's gonna give you a little energy, give you a little spark.
I much rather see him than a Jonah Bolden.
All right, What? Just for a darn sure, right.
Uh, but what? I mean, the thing is, what do you take from this game? You know, I know it's only one game.
But is it something that you you look towards? As you know, we had to win this game? Obviously, you know, it was a big, familiar foe.
It's in your home, on your home floor.
You steal one of their best players, right? You know, you definitely want to get this game.
And I mean, they were definitely him song because Jalen Brown got five quick fouls, obviously.
But the ball movement in the beginning seemed a little off to me.
And that was the most concerning thing I had.
I you know, I think that they missed a lot when Joel was on the block.
It looked like they want to offense to run strictly through Joel Embiid, all right in the beginning, But they seem to start to spread the ball around a little more after that.
And again, When it wasn't working, Ben took over.
Listen, Ben Simmons, if he just came, means the rock and he commands.
Basically, he's gonna commit a double team, but if he just basically puts the team on his shoulders and he finishes his shots, this guy's a limit for this team.
I'm telling you he is that closer.
You know, he seemed a little more comfortable tonight, but he's so faces strike for so long.
And that's another thing that you notice tonight that on the defense's side of the ball there so long they recover so quickly, you know? Listen, no, no disrespect to J.
Reddick, but we all know he wasn't a defensive mastermind here.
We okay? It's no secret that J.
J doesn't play defense, Okay, But the thing is the best part with Josh Richardson coming into the picture as the two guard was when he gets beat, he can recover.
And I think that was the biggest thing you see him make to two great tremendous stops.
Guys in mid air battle through the I mean, it was It was it was on real was nice to see something that J.
J didn't give us.
Obviously, you're gonna miss J.
J's, you know, history, point ability.
Okay, but I think j j kind of handicap this offense a little bit, and I think not enough people talk about that.
I think basically, you know what, Richardson in there, the ball gets spread around even more.
I just want to see Tobias get involved earlier.
I know you know, Brett Brown said.
He wants to see Taub.
I shoot the ball, I get it.
And so lie, Brett.
I want to see the BIS command the rock.
Sometimes it gets the boy think he I think that biggest thing with Tobias is you noticed the open shots that Al Horford's getting especially beyond the arc.
That's because he's playing before when when he's in there and Joel when Joel's an airplane to five.
Okay, well, when that When that's happening, Tobias is playing the three, which is more off, kind of like a slash guy, right? It's more of a slash guy.
It's more of a guy who basically, well, you know, isolation, right? It's more of a 15 to 20 foot rings jumper.
Ah, but with Tobias, he you know he's more of a three point threat and he's not getting that open Look.
He's not getting it at the four.
He gets, you know, like I mean exactly at the three, but he'll get at the four if he's playing a 4% of light playing before that month.
So it's gonna be an adjustment for it's a bias, but I think he could do it. I really do.
I think he's got that nice stroke.
I think you just need to be a little more comfortable.
He can't force things.
And you know, when he gets the ball, No one to do it right away and I'll be OK.
I mean, Jo Jo was going like it was like a rocky movie.
I mean, it was basically like I mean, you look at all these little floors, get hit, face it, stomach, You know, he you know he's down as these getting up.
I mean, Joe went from, like, seven rounds, and I and it's only gay one.
Okay, so, you know, that's a 40 point.
You know, Joe put it all out online.
That's why Philadelphia laws on Ah, you know, besides and bent seventies performance, you know, I noticed that Ah, Al Horford seem like, you know, he was foul happy tonight.
And I think you know, he still is trying to find his way, you know, as they Obviously this isn't like the trade deadline.
When we talked about we got Jimmy Butler we had to figure out, you know, it's a body.
I mean, Jimmy, that we got to buy something to figure out how they're gonna gel together and get used to each other.
I think this is a little different and a whole off season.
But the problem is now this counts.
Right now it's riel.
Brad Stevens is a good coach.
Let's not discount that fact that Brad Stevens, you know, he locked them down in the first quarter.
He did, and he kind of lock him down in the second quarter.
So I mean, I know we went 1/2 time 49 48 Okay? But he locked them down to the point that I couldn't do what they want to dio.
That's why they looked lost.
That's why I look confused.
But they started to figure it out and kudos to prep around.
And I want to say that cause I kill Brent Brown.
I killed rep around last year for his rotations.
I killed Brent Brown for his, you know, is time outs, you know, in bad times and the times that he needed time outs, he didn't take him so his time out judgment was just completely flawed, in my opinion.
But tonight he decided the ladle all down a Brad Stevens.
So right now, 2000 19 2020 season.
We're gonna go Brad Stevens zero prep around one, because this is going to be ah, heavyweight boxing match.
That's gonna go a few rounds, Okay? And Brad Stevens won most of those rounds last year.
Okay, but now, Brett, he wins round one.
He didn't have to knock him out, okay? He just gave a couple jabs, that's all.
He didn't have to give him a haymaker.
The haymaker comes later.
The haymaker comes later when we go to the N b A finals, because that's what I fully expect toe happen.
Listen, this was by far by far a pedestrian performance by the 70 Sixers.
Okay? It really waas I mean, people thought this team is gonna come out, just blow the doors off, right? But we're gonna be sitting and there will be drinking every shot.
And we were gonna have to talk about lack of offense.
We're gonna talk about, you know, defense of rotations.
We were going to talk about, you know, bad passes in turnovers.
Okay, But instead what they did, Okay.
They got past that.
They face adversity early.
They came out on top.
Okay, One of 7 93 So even at their not at their best performance, they score 107 points.
That just shows you what this team is capable of.
Okay, I see you call people watching out there.
Besides, people have on Twitter right now.
There's a couple questions coming to get the mail back a little later.
I don't know if any of you guys have any questions are listening right now.
Ah, I'd love to get your take on.
A lot of people are just leaving the Wells Fargo center.
Ah, a couple that were down there said the atmosphere was really, really good.
Ah, they also said that, you know, it was basically, you know, there was a couple boo birds out there.
Okay? You did hear them.
Obviously, I wasn't there.
I watched on TV, but, you know, my surround sounds pretty good.
And I did hear a couple boo birds out there, which is okay, I I think you know, people need to just temper that a little bit.
This isn't football, right? It's a two game season.
Okay, we know that.
You know, I think it's just the expectations, right? We're We're hearing that the national media is consistently honest, are telling us right there, they pick us to go to the finals.
The fans are expecting the finals run.
So I think everybody thought to come out and this was gonna be the team that they were going to see tonight.
The finals version.
And you gotta relax.
What you need to know is they won the game.
They won the game with other best performance, and it will only get better.
And listen, this was a really good Celtics team.
Let's not discount that fact, okay? Jason Tatum again reminds us why Marchal faults was such a bad pick every single day.
I want to take him.
I'm not gonna get into that.
Okay? They lose.
Terry Rozier, they gain Campbell Walker, who had an okay game, not a Campbell Walker game. Gordon Hayward.
Still, I think they expect more.
They I I mean, I I like what he did, but I I think Boston with all the money they spent, and I know he was injured.
And I was Ah, very bad injury.
Okay, I get that.
But I think they're expecting more money.
Got him for mutes.
Alright, Jalen Brown, Ain't they paid a lot of money? To which in the brown five fouls early.
Okay, so all that money wanted That was by five fouls.
Not too good, Danny Ainge.
Okay, but Tatum hitting shots that, you know, they still have beings called the band's.
What is it? You know what These have Marcus Smart.
Okay, Which is though the world's best flopper in the N b a.
It consistently falls.
It consistently gets calls.
I don't know why they fall for it.
They do it all the time.
Okay, but it seemed like Brad Stevens was kind of hinted.
I don't think they're benches.
It's deep as it once waas okay.
And we didn't even see that many people for the Sixers.
You didn't see shake till the end, right? You know, we we talked about as I year.
Okay? We talked about what is going to go on was a year here is one of the biggest things that I'm scared off.
Okay, With the Sixers going into this game, the biggest concern for everybody was their perimeter shooting, right? The biggest concern was how are they going to create offense? How are they gonna knock down open shots? Who is their shooter? Who is there? J.
Reddick, right? They consistently relied on J J to be that guy.
Well, I think a little differently.
And the reason why I think that eventually Tobias Harris becomes that guy.
But if you have been being able to dribble, drive coast to coast, be able to take the space and before a defensive player can recover take did open lane.
I don't think you need to worry about that outside shot as much.
Now you are gonna have to worry about down the stretch way.
Seriously, start thinking, you know, three seconds on the clock and we're down.
One who was the ball you know isn't going Della Joel.
You see what Brad Stevens did tonight? Every time Joel had the ball outside of the box, he was double teamed every single time.
And that screwed up the psyche of the Sixers a little bit in beginning it.
Really? Did they have a handle? Readjust.
OK, They had to do some different things.
So the blueprint is out.
But the thing is, the Sixers need somebody to step up and beat them.
Okay? They need somebody to step up to destroy that theory.
And I think I really think that could be Sybil.
I think Matisse has that ability.
You've seen it, You know, you play a little nervous tonight, but then he you know, he recovered a nice smile on camera in the third quarter.
He got beat but didn't chase him down.
Not the ball out of bounds.
Kind of, you know, basically like a backwards block.
Okay. He hit that nice three in the corner.
This kid's got game.
And, you know, he you know, it's crazy.
But I was saying this earlier.
He kind of reminds me of a young Scottie Pippen.
Okay? He really does.
Because when scottie came in the league, if everybody remembers Scott, man, my nose is killing me.
Uh, large people.
Ah, but when Scottie came into the league, Okay, that was the biggest thing on him.
They said he was a defensive guy, right? He had a shot, but he had to make sure he knew how to generate it.
And obviously, when you play, that's a Michael Jordan.
How you know, how much better can you get? Right.
So, you know, T's comes over a situation right now where he has shooters all around.
He has guys, Air Command attention and Jo Ellan be in Ben Simmons.
And now Horford and Tobias Harris.
You know, when he comes in the game, he's essentially probably going to be the fourth option most of the time.
Okay, but if you can get him into that line of late in the game, you know, and let's think about it.
You know, when you play football as a rookie running back, right, as a rookie running back that you play football, you get on the field based on your your pants protection, right? So if you can't protect the quarterback, you're not gonna be in the game lead.
Okay, well, in basketball, the way I look at it is in basketball.
This guy needs to learn how to calm down with the fellas because obviously, if you know you're in a close game at the end.
You don't want to be given away fouls unless you're trying to actually make that play and you've seen tonight.
He needs to get a little more discipline in the way he uses his hands, especially when you know you're playing N B A players.
Now, this isn't just the preseason you're playing N b A players who who know how the beats are in certain defensive scheme.
So it was something homework on, and I think we'll get better at that.
But I do think he could be the closer.
I still think eventually.
I know this is only Game one, but just seeing it, I think you know, they do miss that one guy that come off the bends to generate some offense.
You know, like, you know, it's the same.
You know, James, And this isn't gonna be that guy.
Mike Scott is gonna be that guy, you know? I know.
I just did say Matisse could be that guy because it looks like he is there, there six guy coming off.
It definitely does look like that.
But, you know, I think you'll see something halfway through the season.
You know, maybe that guy that gets, you know, the buyout contract guy, the guy who needs to be released, You know, the veteran.
There's something of that nature.
I think you'll see.
It'll probably happen.
Ah, you know, But they will have to get creative.
That's a little different team now, especially when it comes to the salary cap.
OK, the team is a little different because basically, they don't have as much flexibility as they used to have.
Okay, so that's one thing that will definitely, you know, definitely the belt will establish.
Ah, man, look, you know, this is great NBA's bam! I'm watching right now in Portland.
You got Denver? Um, you know, I don't know if anybody wants the Clippers game last night.
He wants that clippers game and, you know, and they were ridiculous.
You know, Kawai drops 30.
You have Paul George, But that's the thing, you know, They're deep.
If you look at the Clippers, the Clippers are a very deep team.
They probably go about nine deep on that team.
Okay, that's something that's six years really don't carries the five carries.
You know, that guy never gets hot.
He never gets in that riddle, right? So I think to buy seems to be in that rhythm.
I think they need to do a little more around to bias in the beginning.
I know you got Joe down low.
I know you have been of German penetrate.
But I think you need to get the ball to Toby a little earlier, get him in some space, get a couple open looks get on feeling good, okay? And I think that will serve its purpose throughout the game.
I think that's what miss tonight.
He really got some of that rhythm back, but I think it's been starting low earlier.
So, you know, again, I think that's one of the biggest things.
But hey, listen or want to know people six years, Celtics.
I figure we'll go each post game, go about 2030 minutes, and I had about 100 people join, which was awesome.
Ah, I don't only get better.
Everybody that that joined in, you know, thanks for the tickets.
I appreciate it.
Um, again, for a i m J Ray Allen and and UNLV Larry Johnson behind me okay.
I like to give them a shot out because they're my boys back there.
