and welcome back to another.
We got Nets Sportscaster Stream coming to You live at 2 a.m.
Eastern standard Brooklyn time.
I am, of course, coming actually from a described location in Indonesia on this one, bouncing around a little bit as we wrap up this preseason for the Brooklyn Nets.
But I'm excited to be back at my home base.
Is the regular season kicks off and hopefully in a more consistent environment as we take a look ahead at the Brooklyn that season.
Now I came to you on our first live stream, talking about Tori on Prince, new acquisition for the Nets this off season and the impact that we think he can have as we head into the season.
From a scoring standpoint, Guy has been shooting otherworldly in the preseason.
Certainly looks like his three point prowess is gonna play very well on this Brooklyn.
Now we're gonna look at a more familiar face, and that is Caris Levert.
Now, if you watch the Nets last season in the postseason, when they took on the Philadelphia 76 ers, while ultimately they were outmatched in that one coming back from his injury towards the end of the year, jumping in and starting 25 of his 40 total games that he appeared in Caris.
Levert took things to the next level in that series against the 70 Sixers ended up averaging 21 points.
Showed that he can come in and take over a game.
And as far as moves that the Nets decided to make, letting D'Angelo Russell go and bringing in the likes of Kyrie, Irving and Katie, I think they certainly had to look at their own roster.
See what Caris Levert was able to show and hopefully expect him to take that next big leap in the season ahead.
Because if this team wants tohave success, Caris Levert is going to be a big component of it.
Now look down a little bit of the notes here, glancing at them in the preseason.
He's only long an average of 15 minutes.
He's shooting, you know very well from the field. 60%.
He's also had four rebounds and four assists to go along with that.
Excuse me, those air is average career numbers.
Four rebounds for assist In the preseason, he shot 60%.
We've actually seen an uptick from those assists to five in his limited action over his 1st 2 seasons in the n B A.
We saw him shooting in the range of 43% both years, and then we also saw for three point, actually a drop off this past season, going from 34 down to 31.
So if you're the Brooklyn Nasser, your Brooklyn Nets fan, what are the expectations for Caris? Levert for me? And we talked about this myself and my co host, Doug Norio, that we got Nets podcast.
She needs to take a huge leap forward with Katie off the court, Laverne needs to assert himself as the clear number two behind Kyrie Irving.
When Kyrie is off the court, you need to have someone who's gonna lead this team, and that needs to be caress lover.
He's one of the few players that can't ball in hand, take on a defense attack, drive to the rim, create his home shot when he needs to.
But beyond that, this is a guy that needs to dictate.
The offense is gonna have to run through him, so when you look ahead, my expectations are he needs to elevate in a lot of key categories, one of which is the assists.
I expect him to be pushing to be top 20 in assists, and that means getting into that six plus range in this upcoming season.
That's a very achievable thing.
You have shooters on the outside lavatory on Prince.
Now the returning Joe Harris.
You also have players that you're gonna be able to dump football down to on switches are coming off screen and rolls and DeAndre, Jordan and, of course, the young blood Jared Allen.
So that's the first spot that he needs to elevate the obvious area that he also is going to improve.
His game is scoring over the start of his career first season, about 12 point second season, about 14 points coming into this year.
I expect him to see it increase in minutes, playing upwards of 30 plus.
I also expect to see him scoring 20 plus points.
You know the only way that this team is going to be able to go through the season confidently is knowing that when either Kyrie one needs arrest in a given game or needs to come out and take a couple of games off.
We talked about this a lot.
Kyra is not necessarily a guy that's gonna give you 75 plus games in a season.
So when he's off the court completely on a given night, cares, Laverne needs to come in, assert himself and become the leader of this team.
Something that my co host, Doug Nori mentioned was.
This is not a guy.
It's not doing a humble brag.
But when he's asked about, can he take his game to the next level? Caris.
Levert is very direct and honest and saying he believes in his game.
He believes what he could do, and it's all about him.
He's the only one who can stop himself from elevating and becoming a leader on this team.
So when you look at assist totals, when you look at points totals, what the other key categories defensively, he's actually gone up in terms of defensive wind shares.
In his first year, he was just over 100 ranked in from the guard position, second year 78.
It's a little hard to gauge where you want to see that number of go to, but I'd like to see him get up top 50 top 40 in those rankings when it comes to that category, because again, Kyrie is not necessarily going to be a defensive hounding player.
And you need to be able to potentially take a lover to put him on one of the guards, the best scorer on an opponent's team and know that he's going to give you pretty hard attacking defense that can hopefully produce turnovers.
This is a guy who has been able to get some turnovers off of off of other players, and I would expect him to be pushing for that to steal per game.
Average rebounding titles aren't something.
You're really gonna look for him.
The 4 to 6 range is probably more than enough, and he's likely gonna be on the lower end when you have other guys like a Spencer, didn't we? Who was the gang in and really tackle for rebounds on the offense and defensive side of the bowl to go along with Jared Allen, DeAndre, Jordan and whoever else may be on the court, the Tory on princes and the crews that are gonna come in as well? I'm not worried about that stat line, but I do want to see him caress liver going for 20 to 25 points a game, 6 to 8 assists a game, two steals a game, a handful of rebounds.
And I also want to see him take that field goal percentage to the next level going from his career. 43%.
And let's start to push that thing up over the 45% threshold because it means consistency is continuing to grow.
The other small area would be three point shooting.
Took a bit of a step back this last year.
In the preseason, he's actually looked like he's shown a little bit of improvement from the outside.
Doesn't have to be the main component of his game.
Doesn't have to be a secondary attributes, but with an increased spacing that you should see on the floor now with Kyrie Irving, You do wanna have the ability if you have that open look to hit it and hit it with consistency.
So I would like to see him get back up over that 34 35% threshold when it comes to three point range.
He's a 70% shooter fromthe line that's gonna work just fine for you, but again across the board.
Caris Levert needs to take a big step forward.
And personally, I think he's going to Doug.
No, really thinks that he's going to.
A lot of people think that he's ready to take that big leap.
This is going to be the key component for me, though, and we're gonna dive into other players as we wrap up this preseason.
It look towards the regular season, but all eyes are gonna be on Caris.
He's a known member of this roster.
He's been here since the beginning, and watching him take this next leap should be exciting for Brooklyn Nets fans.
That's gonna wrap it up for this player spotlight.
