out of friends and welcome into the inaugural broadcast of the We Got Nets Podcast Sportscaster Stream.
Now, if you've been following us on our podcast, you know that we've been tracking the Brooklyn Nets all throughout the preseason, and the off season dug.
My co host and myself have been breaking down all the big free agent moves from Kyrie Irving, too.
Of course, the the eventual player to be K D on the court with this team, but we want to do here is we start to look at the sportscaster platform.
You're going into the final preseason game on the 19th and also, as we head to the regular season, you're gonna see either myself or Doug Nori.
Come on here, maybe a pregame halftime or post game to either give our take on the upcoming coming match up what we seen in the first half and looking ahead of the second half of games and then also what our takeaways are after. Potentially.
What we see is being easy early season matchups or maybe a good barometer of where this team can look to go in the upcoming 2019 2020 season.
But as we prepare, and I come to you from an undisclosed location in Indonesia in the wee hours of the East Coast morning.
I want to go ahead and give a little bit of a look at some of the key players on this team that you could maybe keep an eye on in the final preseason match up and then early in the regular season.
And rather than maybe go with some of the the easy ones.
Which would be, say, a Kyrie Irving, who we haven't had an opportunity, actually get a good look at in the preseason after he sustained an injury in China in the first game with the Lakers, I'm actually gonna go with an acquisition that they had this year, a supposed friend of Kevin Durant and that is Tori on prints and coming over from the Atlanta Hawks.
This is a guy who, when you look at his career numbers over the last three seasons, he has seen an increase in minutes, he said, an increase in field goal percentage, both from the field overall and also from three point range.
So how does that translate for the Brooklyn Nets? We've already seen it in this preseason, as you can tell from the the highlight reel running across the bottom there.
He's averaged 18 points in 23 minutes over the three games, starting two of those preseason games.
Now he's shooting at us, unworldly 63% from the field right now, and even Maur otherworldly is that he's shooting nearly 74% from three point range.
Obviously, these aren't things that he's gonna be able to sustain in the regular season, but we tend look at.
And what Doug and I have talked about on the podcast is how this is a player who in Atlanta, a team that was intentionally losing trying to tank over the past couple years, where Tori on Prince was seeing an influx in playing time, a decrease messing around with his minutes, not necessarily being the starting lineup being thrown into the starting lineup.
He had a lack of consistency there, by all accounts, from his performance in the preseason and wait.
Kenny Atkinson speaks about him.
This is a player that you can expect to be getting solid minutes from the very beginning of this regular season, and expectations are that he's gonna be in the starting lineup when they open the season against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Now again, you can't expect him to be shooting these percentages throughout the year.
But on a team like Brooklyn, with Kyrie Irving there with another three point shooter like Joe Harris on the team, then you also add carrots.
Traverse Levert into that mix.
Who can slash to the basket has already shown early in a prison season that he can be a facilitator as well.
Taurean Prince is in a position to get a lot of solid open looks, especially from three point range and my expectations.
And I think Doug echoes the sentiments as well is that this is probably going to be a guy that you expect to see pushing towards 30 minutes of gain time for the Nets.
I would expect to see him getting a lot of good open looks.
As I said, I expect to hit him to be hitting a lot of these Open looks as well, and I also think that he's going to be able to a times drive towards the basket and contributing the rebounding game.
Now the Brooklyn Nets overall are a relatively undersized team, so You can't necessarily expect defense of contributions across the board, depending on what the matchup is and Taurean Prince at times maybe a liability at the four position because of his size.
But as you may be seen as a Brooklyn Nets fan over the last couple of seasons, and as we've already seen in these preseason games, this is a gritty team.
This is a scrappy team where every player is willing to get down on the floor and fight for a loose ball, go up and attack and get after those rebounds.
And even at times when maybe being slightly outmatched defensively, willing to get up in the face of an offensive player, whoever it may be and be a pest, be a problem.
And if you can at least help to throw off the rhythm of some of these weapons on other teams, that's gonna be a positive.
And it's gonna be enough that the plus is going to be worth what you may give away on the defense of end.
And you know, when you look back at his time in Atlanta, I already mentioned it, but here's a guy who back in 2016 played 59 games, played a full 82 game season for 2017 for the Atlanta Hawks, 2018 again drops down to 55 games.
But over those over those years, you saw a steady increase in minutes from 16 to 30 basically 28 minutes and 2018.
You saw him increase his point points.
And you also saw go from 42 43 to 44% field goal shooting and also from 32 to 38 to 39 from three point range.
Now the rebounding again is not gonna be his strong suit. Still contributor.
I expect him to still maybe get you three or four rebounds a game.
His assists are going to be something that, potentially you can see him increase as we look at him on this Brooklyn roster.
Because again, whether it's facilitating through Kyrie, Irving or through Caris Levert.
Maybe it's a dump down after a screen by Jared Allen or to DeAndre Jordan, where that players unable to locate and kick out tutorial on prints for an open look.
Or maybe he continues to work it around the perimeter.
This is a team that we've already seen in the preseason is working on the fundamentals that Kenny Atkinson isn't preaching since he took over as the head coach.
It's about ball movement.
It's about rotation.
It's about playing for one another and not doing quote unquote hero ball.
So I think that he's gonna benefit greatly in this system and the expectations that I have for him again.
We're probably looking at about 30 minutes.
I would expect him to be in that 18 plus points per game range 15 to 20.
Maybe if you want to give a little bit of a broader area and he's gonna be knocking down those open looks.
He's also a solid free throw shooter, so that's gonna benefit him when he gets a chance to go to the line.
And when you talk about the Brooklyn Nets from last season of this season, essentially, this is replacing Tamari Carroll hair and all.
And to me, you've gotten younger.
You've gotten a better three point shooter and really, it's probably basically awash when it comes to defensive ability and what that's gonna look like.
But this overall should be an upgrade for this offense, and Brooklyn Nets fans should be very excited to see Taurean Prince as we head into the 2019 2020 regular season.
That's gonna go ahead and wrap it up for the player spotlight and the initial sportscaster stream from We got Nets and this is coming to you at close to 5 a.m.
