Welcome to the Packers victory over the Lions.
Um, 23 to 20 shoot victory for the Packers as the Mason Crosby kicks a walkoff field goal to win the game.
Um, so a lot to dissect here.
I think the first thing, though, is I mean about the initial reaction is, uh, the lions really exploited the packers in the passing game.
Deep passes early in the first quarter.
Uh, they are through 30. Nothing need.
Um, can you call Jamie to be catch? Marvin Hall is on reception.
The game with 58 yarder seven King was getting be early and often.
Um, if you've seen games with Kevin King before, where you got burned bad.
I guess the big one was the Vikings, the Vikings.
He, uh, burned on that touchdown.
The big test on reception by Stefan Diggs.
Now, um, just the issue was coverage, but not the greatest.
But later in the game, King actually needs some good plays.
A member on third down play.
He, uh, defended a pass on.
That wasn't thinking was galling again.
Uh, and yeah, he was able Thio, we're the king.
Well, um, the obvious thing here that I think was the Lions.
This didn't really feel as much of the Packers win is a lion's loss.
That makes sense, and obviously it's both.
But it definitely did feel like the Lions sort of cost themselves the game.
I mean, the first thing is no. Three turnovers.
Crackers committed three turnovers.
There was two of them by day area Shepherd, I don't know, really making it look like they should have hung on to Trevor Davis.
Um, so uh, yeah, the first turnover was their jobs fumble, and we start to see a lot more Jamal Williams in this game.
Although I did think Jones ran well, Joe's big mistakes.
What was a drop on a 33 year touchdown pass that he should have? You should have caught.
There's no excuse in that, and he's shown to be capable of making catches as a receiver deep, so that's definitely it's definitely doable.
Each there was a drop.
If you can say, Oh, he's just a running back receiver, but he can be a receiver.
He is good enough.
Uh, yes, I'm not the greatest game from Jones uh, getting the offensive line did look pretty well, Everything pretty solid on that front.
Um, pass protection was decent to Rogers.
Had a lot of time to scramble around, um, lines to get a couple sacks.
But, um, well, actually, did they remember now? Because here's thinking one thing the Lions and talk about red zone opportunities and then they get together.
They only scored the one touchdown, and I feel goals breaking by map trainer to kicks from over 50 yards.
Uh, you know, there's a reason he has currently has the NFL record for longest kick at 64 yards.
He's a He's a great kicker in line, so start to pick him up.
And, uh, almost won them the game here because they just couldn't score in the red zone.
Even the time they scored the touchdown to carry on John's one yard running.
He barely got over the line, and even one ref where the tumor is called it one once a test.
Anyone didn't didn't read that, you know, but who didn't have to touch on the better vantage point away with it and, you know, basically played with super close that I think it was the right call, but even they were really certain.
So, um, they were inches away from not square in touch at all in this game.
Could that have been fourth down and a turnover? And that wouldn't have been a great situation.
The Packers on their own one yard line.
Uh, still red zone defense of the Packers was great because they didn't get allow a couple big plays in the passing game.
No big run plays, though, which is really great, uh, defended the run.
Really? Well, Really impressed by Dean Lowry getting penetration on one plays.
Not not the greatest game by Kenny Clarke, though, Uh, Sze good that, uh, wow, we did step up because, uh I don't know, Clark.
I was getting beat one on one again.
You played better against the Cowboys, but it goes back to the Eagles, where Jason Kelsey Cat had his way with him. One on one.
Um, but that again, Kelsey's maybe maybe maybe the best center in the league, right? So it's justifiable, But here, I don't use sometimes double team, but not all.
Not often, Uh, a lot of times Clark was getting beaten on, uh, on single teams.
And, uh, I mean, you know, he did sometimes get to the back field and was there to make plays.
I had a couple a few tackles sometimes be on line of scrimmage.
Good chase with him, But I don't know, I felt I've seen better days from from Kenny Clarke.
Now the Preston in hysteria.
Smith each got a sack.
Can't keep times.
But the second element that I think of the Lions really shot themselves in the foot.
Aside from the inability to capitalize on turnover of touchdowns, Um, and just four red zone play in general was penalties.
I mean, Keats and everything.
Everyone's gonna talk about the two penalties of land called on for legal hands.
The face both entree flowers.
And I think I love you.
But I think most people are saying that they really didn't look like they should have been penalties.
Uh, and both of those came on third downs and gave the packersfirst down.
However, wasn't the only times that happened at the game.
There were five instances where on third down, the lines were getting off the field and they committed penalties and they were legit calls.
The other three get take those 1st 2 But But all those moments lead up to keeping the Packers into this game.
And, uh, greatest match Patricia's done with them.
Discipline was it was a parent.
Um, here today that, you know, they need Thio be more disciplined and and not, uh, not take some penalties.
Really bad moments and again.
Well, excuse them for those two.
That shouldn't have been penalty calls, but regardless, you know, Lions definitely shot themselves in the foot here.
As I say, Packers didn't necessarily deserve to win this game.
You know, they did some things really well, and obviously they got the win.
But I will say they're five and one team in that.
They're pretty lucky.
You look at something, another five on one team and you look at the Sea Hawks who just been playing all around great football looking like maybe the best team in the NFC.
You've got the same two or five and one in spite of Drew Brees being out since week two part way through to Bridgewater.
Headwaters done well for them.
So the Packers, you know, you would have thought that there's five and one do you know against the division, but it again does feel pretty lucky in that sense.
Um, So, uh, the good news.
I mean, some bad news from today was drawn by Alison left, and then I looked like a scary He was motionless for a little bit, and, uh, glad you got up.
Obviously missed the rest of game, but what I can assume is a concussion.
So how long you gonna be? Just hope that he's okay and all right, concussions are scary.
Brain injury. Too scary, no matter what.
So first priority is player health and safety.
Um, but, uh, the good news was, though, um, Rogers may have found a new you could even say maybe second receiver.
A long term for the season, you know, right to that level.
But Alan was our looked really good today.
Uh, there's a lot of attempts at making back shoulder throws, and it seemed like Alison had a fair chance at them as well.
Um, sub actual videos, Kumerow.
She rode it and need It Seems like they couldn't manage to get the separation, But Alma's ARD.
Who, I guess does operate more is a deep threat.
Uh, he managed to get some good time and I'm actually froze.
And then, obviously the touchdown pass 35 years on by Rogers with pinpoint accuracy.
Maybe put it right on which right on the on the goal line to the right of the outside, Lazard had outside leverage.
Uh, he's got a decent frame and he used this frame to shield the ball.
Had to make a body catch, which you prefer to see God make a hands catch in those situations, but still caught the ball regardless, held it against his body and got over that ends online Thio into the end zone for a touchdown.
Um, definitely a much better fourth quarter from the Packers offense and what we've seen and really get that drivers aided by the penalty.
Uh, but it was a drive last.
Last night lasted over six minutes and right down the end, and they keep the field will take the wind.
Um, the ball control style, strong run game completions, easy throws.
That was all there, and part of it was the Lions plan believe that not allowing the big touchdown reception.
At that point, it was 20 to 20 for the Lions.
You know, if even if they kick a field goal still, if you'll go back to win it And the way paraders been kicking tonight, you kind of trust that that that's kind of what the lines would have, you know, we had for mentality to and the Packers took advantage and methodically drove the field found wayto get into the end zone.
Um, I guess, uh, you know, part of it was the lines at a hard time sustaining drives.
I mean, the only ran for 2.
8 yards per carry.
And that includes a nine yard run by Agnew to kind of boost that a little bit, Not much.
And Stafford, head of 10 year run as well.
Um, you start taking those out.
It's really not looking great.
Where is Jamal? Williams ended up with 100 yard game here quietly.
I didn't even realize that until just looking at the box score here in the South Seas, but, uh, yeah, I knew he ran really well.
I guess that heated by the Big 45 yarder also had the reception toe touch down.
Who is one of those, uh, touch passes? Where and well, say, Williams come back from that concussion.
Looks really good.
Uh, used him on the end around on his touchdown, which isn't necessary.
Something to do with running backs.
Vala scanning was kind of using using that regard more, uh, did manage to get nine yards on an end around, Uh, for the most part, they're not heavily targeted.
He only saw two targets and he only caught one pass last week.
So he catches for Valdas.
Can't lean over the last two weeks without Adams.
It's really kind of showing that not quite ready to be that number one receiver, if anyone.
It was Alan Lazard coming in late.
Five targets for catches, 65 yards left the team in receiving.
Um and I mean, you looked really good and seemed like he had the timing in connection with Rogers, that whom we all had a little bit of that big enders.
What? There's a back shoulder throw where he didn't gain separation.
Many also didn't quite turn around in time I could sell.
It was a little choppy that it wasn't perfectly well time.
So, uh, and considering this week in practice, it's been Kumerow getting the first team rap site, not Lazard.
So for Lazard Thio show that timing that's with much less reps than the other guys.
That's really something to pay attention to you.
And I think the Packers were wise to have a keep on the practice squad through final cuts and, um, bring him on and then get rid of Trevor Davis.
I guess that's where Trevor Davis and Spot was.
Question, although has received.
I like Gary Shepherd through training camp, but two mistakes tonight one was, ah, muffed punt.
I really should have made a fair catch.
And hey, kind of didn't position himself well, it was over his hat.
He forced him to go up and try and get it got tackled.
And you don't really want to see that on hunting.
And so that led to turn over.
Simon was in reception.
Um, he ran a route and he was basically it was in the red zone and he would've scored if he caught this.
But he slipped and it hit him in the face mask, bounced up right into the defender's and hands and brought it to midfield.
Wasn't Ah, I know who really wasn't a great play by Shepherd and struggled today.
Didn't really have, you know, made some decent returns, but never got further than probably 25 yards.
I'll think, I don't know.
Caught one pass for one yard And then again, the other one we led to that interception.
I know it, uh, it seems that yet maybe kiss Trevor Davis was kind of that again. Return guy receiver.
They want to give that role to shepherd, but wonders.
And Davis is doing well with Open.
We're going to see him next week against Backer.
So I don't know.
I don't know that that was the greatest decision choosing to keep Shepherd over Trevor Davis.
Um, one person I really haven't talked about on here.
That cat really deserves credit, though.
Is, uh, Jackie Scott today? Tonight he averaged 51.
7 yards per punt.
Uh, he was just He's been solid all season.
Really A great member of this team in second year, looking like a real great long term puncher on this, uh, you know, there were times when I feel position.
This game became a field position game.
It was all about field goals and field position.
And, uh, the hackers were able to flip it enough with the times that remember, uh, he is 53 yard punt.
He was We punted that thing from his from the end zone.
If not, he was inside the five.
So you're totally full field position narrative.
So they're giving the Lions something that I've been feeling a little bit further back in it.
Enforce them Thio in the more clock.
And that was key at the end again at the end.
The Packers, even though they were behind their the ones that were draining the clock, getting my down to kick that winning field goal and, uh, great fourth quarter from the Packers.
You better you better fourth quarter than they had recently.
To be honest, especially offensively again, defensively shut teams down when they when they got in the lead.
You know, if you told me that the packers, because the backers never had to leave in this game, they have a lead at the very end when Crosby kicked it for the wind.
But no other point in this game.
Did they lied? Um, they got close, is 13.
10 uh, and then obviously, was 20 to 20.
But, um yeah, it, uh you told me that the Packers would never have had a lead in this game until the very end.
I wouldn't have believed that they would have won the game.
I figured with the Lions with the lead, they would have just ran the football.
But, um, maybe for the first time since the Bears game, Week one, Packers really shut down the run game.
No big place again.
Matt Stafford of the biggest run for them a 10 yards, um, carry on jobs and 13 carries.
34 years in a touchdown.
That was I thought he was gonna be a big weapon.
And, yeah, he didn't score the touchdown after on a second chance on third and goal from the one yard line.
And then fourth and goal scored in the fourth and goal, which is key there, but, uh, yeah, uh, you've been great job by the Packers run defense.
I noticed they were in base personnel a lot more than normal.
At least that habit.
And then they started as the game went on.
Detroit's are too spread out more and kind of forced them to go into five defensive backs, which, apparently they seem more comfortable in speaking of formation does seems like the Packers and, well, it doesn't matter.
Williams and Jones, both of them, seem pretty comfortable running out of the three wide receiver set when they've been using damn vitality, that fullback it does.
It's funny, cause I tell you, it's a lot of things great.
Doesn't seem like the lead blocks that well, but they never using believe Block not may be part of his limitations, because when they get to have him as a lead blocker, they really gain extra guards with him.
It seems like it's better off having him spread out.
Uses a receiver because he can't catch pretty well.
He's shown it before the season preseason training camp, but also in the regular season, Uh, one pass for sure.
Uh, Scott Hope passes, but one that was deeper downfield and showed his ability as a receiver, not just a dump off option, so it seems like they prefer to use my tally in that sense, but then they kind of went away from him and started to use him or two tight ends that but then he had a lot of three wide receiver set, some four wide receiver set.
Obviously, Jimmy Graham.
Sometimes before Allison was hurt, they would bring in Lazard and Shepherd and have a cool bro and velvet Scantlin.
Um, and then they also get to tight end sets were being used a lot against the Bears, not as much against other teams.
Somewhat, they've used it that it was really primarily use against the Bears.
But since then, if you like the three wide receiver sets of their preferred run personnel to look for that moving forward, another was brought up by the crew.
But it's something that the Packers I found it had success with, not just against the Lions but all teams this year.
Um, so, yeah, five and one three, you know against the division and the last thing division games of last few games this season.
So, even though that's the case I get, the division may not be locked up until sometime in those final three weeks.
The Packers are you know, they're lucky because they haven't played their best football on.
They were lucky that the lions against shot themselves in the foot so many times tonight and that the refs apparently we're on the Packers side.
You know that, Uh, that's gonna be talked about heavily in.
Trying to think if there was any bad calls that went against the Packers.
We don't think so.
I mean, you did six penalties, which isn't much.
Uh, and all were deserved.
It was all the steaks by the team.
Had a lot early, and they really clean that up.
I know Last week of penalties were huge problem last week, and and they were bad against the Eagles, too.
So, uh, having that cleaned up is good, but yeah, lucky five and one.
This team still has a ways to go because the aspirations are that they commit a Super Bowl Thinking about this playoff seeding and things like that.
I mean, five wins, 10 wins is probably enough.
So you you've got it.
In that sense, you're halfway there to the playoff hole.
But you gotta think the Packers, with only one loss of far this season looking at the sea hawks the saints there.
Yeah, 35 and one teams the package.
You think they gotta like their chances? Thio, try and get a first round bye.
So this is more than just making the class.
Getting put yourself in in an advantageous position in the playoffs be a long season and they needed You need every edge you can get to win.
Even then you gotta get lucky.
And he doesn't think that thought that maybe the Packers of getting to lucky too early on their luck's gonna run out when they need it most.
So there is that.
But maybe they used us luck to ride at some momentum because I know for some reason they just keep getting lucky Every game.
Like I say it, like last week was the Cooper interception that really shouldn't happened.
Uh, pretty good pass by that.
Prescott Cooper should take that into the end zone and said it gets tipped in. The Packers.
Nothing. Lead their luck there.
You've got to end zone interceptions by the Bears of the Vikings in each of their games.
That really could turn the tides.
That's less luck, because again, that was the Packers pass rush forcing bad decisions by those quarterbacks, but same time that they could have made better decisions.
And maybe taking this act and live to see another day or dump off somewhere.
The Broncos were the team.
They should've that beat, and that was probably their best game all season.
Which makes sense, since be honest, that's been the worst team they play all year, although one with one could argue. It's the Cowboys.
We're now three and three, but yeah, but even then they had a hard time stopping the run.
It's just the Broncos really couldn't stop the Packers offense that game, either.
So, yeah, I've been one playing Oakland next week.
I know I will have my Packers pregame stream.
I plan to have Terry Briggs, who's the full press coverage majors managing editor.
I haven't, uh, any previews with anyone else yet, so this will be, uh, nice to get some extra input in.
Uh, hello again.
I know some of the stuff I was saying kind of came to fruition.
Ad, for example, the coverage.
I was talking about the pregame.
How would the Packers assigned coverages to their DVDs? And I kind of suggested Okay, even though it's the obvious.
Mattress was gyre Alexander on quality Colony size and Kevin King sized EA 63 and Dialects 5 10 And King had been doing well against visible corners this year and less against the burner speed.
That guy's so, uh, I'm kind of surprised.
Maybe it's better off to put King on holiday.
And, you know, Kim got burned a few times at first to me.
Who? Maybe I made a mistake suggesting that.
But then But then later on the game, King made some good plays.
Uh, General Alexander, though, really did a good job putting on Marvin Jones.
Really? Jones finished with two catches for 17 yards.
So, uh, big play threat came from Marvin Hall and then Golladay.
But, uh, the most part packers outside of those two big plays, uh, did a great job of preventing the big place.
So, um, coverage wise, That was interesting.
Uh, and maybe you even have a good tune on this Packers team in terms of how they're gonna approach things coverage wise because, uh, again, the plan to play king against more physical corners since the one that the Packers are gonna go with.
So, uh, look for Alexander that kind and not necessarily shadow it.
Teams talk for receiver like you would considered holiday in this game.
Uh, look for himto, okay? They're top deep threatened Jones.
Maybe that's where he shut down.
Who knows how that's gonna be against the Raiders, though? That's gonna be interesting.
Ah, if, um, I don't know if, uh, Tyrone Williams place, Then I think, for sure.
Dryer Alexander, Textile Williams.
But, uh, but I haven't No you Trevor Davis.
Well, see, uh, dusting like the Raiders game plan should be with the Lions and the Cowboys game plan were, But they seem to go away from it, run the football.
Uh um I don't know if, uh teams I don't know.
Um, teams who should be running aren't running on them.
Gotta think the raiders pay attention.
That seeing how that's two losses in the road teams playing the Packers, that should have really ran the ball against Yeah, I think rooted in the Raiders offensive brain trust.
They're gonna say, Let's just run the football out of down their throats in the middle because I mean carry on was trying runs to the outside, and it was really doing work.
Well, it is runs in the middle that work.
But again, it they stopped at this game.
So, uh, maybe the packers of turning a corner, Maybe having or in Burke's back, it actually will help.
Uh, I didn't make too much of a 1,000,000 pack plays, to be honest, but, um, to give two tackles, one solo.
Uh, but again, I thought the limited time he played against the cowboys, he did have one really good tackle on Zeke for sure.
Um would have stopped.
What would have been a big run? Eso maybe.
Or in Burke's being here is that it's gonna be some changes.
The Packers run defense having that second linebacker next, Martinez, that could really clean things up.
So, uh, look for that, too.
Maybe improvements the year goes on.
Uh, but the truth is, the Packers offense needs to play better.
Maybe Alan Lazard is the answer there.
Uh, this is this is a potentially explosive, passive explosive passing offense.
Um, and while obviously moving about the and it's a big hit And who's in Alison's also big hit.
I can't make the excuse for that.
You know, every team's injured.
Every team's hurt, so it's using what's there on the field right now.
Alan's argument look like the Packers number one receiver next week if Monty Abbas is back.
So yeah, we'll look to next week against the Raiders once again.
My name is Kyle.
Sandra on the managing editor for full press coverage.
Packers and full press coverage.
Next time I'll be on sportscaster will be an issue related.
I'll be doing my weekly CFL DF extreme going through all the best D.
S prices for CFL games on both Draftkings and TSN.
Uh, followed by Sometime next week.
Kendall do the Packers pregame again with the plan now is to have Terry Biggs, the press coverage managing editor for Oakland Raiders, to come on and we'll discuss this game eventually.
Back here for another reaction.
So, until next week, enjoy.
