give it just one second.
Hello, Lakers Nation.
Welcome into another show.
So glad to have you here If you were with us at 4 30 in the morning for the last two games again.
Much respect to you guys.
If you joined me that early, it's great seeing somebody Lakers fans showing out supporting the team, even during the preseason.
Guys today we're gonna focus on pre season.
We're gonna look a little bit ahead.
We're gonna talk about the matchups coming up with the Golden State Warriors, and we're also going to talk about what we've seen so far, both the good and the bad.
Today's show is brought to you by lakers nation dot com and see ln s Media and our sponsors for today are better online dot t g and C.
And, of course, up time energy drinks.
I would not have made it through the 4 30 AM games with some time energy drinks.
Make sure you guys go grab something.
Get him a 7 11 GNC and amazon dot com.
If you join me on my life stream of those games you saw, I was just downing up time energy drinks because that it was about the only way I could handle being up at 4 30 in the morning.
For some basketball, that wasn't always the prettiest.
But, hey, we made it one way or another.
Joining me today is Denise Jones from Lakers Nation and just about everywhere else constantly busy.
In fact, she put on a 14 hour day today and is now here to join us.
I don't know how she's still standing.
Denise, Thanks so much for helping on here and making the time.
Did I would only do this for you.
You know, I'm saying like I could use to be tapping out, but Trevor Lane pulled up, texted me and said, You know, let's make this happen So we're here making it happen And, of course, anything that regards of preseason and the excitement of L.
We're talking about camera, just the level of excitement I feel in the city just because it could be multiple reasons.
But like the roster, we have obviously like how we did in in the first preseason game, and we'll dive deeper into the combo.
Um, has really kept a lot of these guys watching these games at bars in L.
And it feels like sound kind of World Cup energy? Almost.
Yes. So there's.
There's people that are showing that we're showing up at 4 30 in the morning, in person, at these different bars in different places to watch the game.
Yeah, that's huge.
That's that tells you right there, that there's an energy.
There's a vibe around the Lakers, And, yes, that's been diminished a little bit by the last two performances.
And, of course, Anthony Davis's injury will get into all of that.
But still that that many people are showing up for Lakers games? Look, I don't want to be constantly comparing the two, but I don't think people are doing that for the Clippers.
So say, You know, I mean again, we're not here to compare, but I don't think people are doing that for a lot of teams.
So I feel like it has a lot to do with the drought that we've been in, and it's the energy is great.
So I'm really happy about it.
I just hoping fingers crossed that it stays like that with Laker friends the entire season, or at least up until, like the first quarter of this evening.
Yeah, I mean it.
Look, it's a long season.
It's an 82 game season.
Not easy for fans.
Not easy, obviously, for players to get through.
But checkers fans always toe always have that energy of the beginning of the year.
And if the team plays well, that's going to be sustained.
And I think that's the key.
The Lakers are going to have to get off to a good start in the schedule.
You know, isn't too tough.
I think they should be able to get off to a good start, But they got to stay healthy, and that's where we're gonna talk about that.
Anthony Davis injury a little bit, But yet, look, this is a great fan base, and it's one that we certainly appreciate, right? Yeah, 1000%.
I mean, it's we've talked about this before, like I'm born and raised here and there's no energy like, I've been very fortunate to travel and across the country and, like 10 different games, even, um at things of the cities and it's really nothing like it.
I feel even and you'll hear this were multiple Ben being from L.
A or not that the season or the league in general is always better of the Lakers A dream? Well, yeah, absolutely.
The league is stronger when you have a good Lakers team out there that is making things happen.
Of course, I mean the big news for this year's.
The Lakers have Anthony Davis and combining him with LeBron James.
So let's just let's just dive right into it.
We've seen them play three games now.
LeBron and Edie haven't played a ton, but what has been your takeaway so far of the two stars? I mean, why? Why bury the lead? Let's focus on them to start.
What do you think about how LeBron and 80 have played so far in preseason? Honestly, dude, I really love the do it.
It's exactly what I expected.
Actually, it's even slightly better because we saw in the first season preseason opener the way that LeBron play, LeBron was LeBron Anthony Davis was impressive.
Um, it just looked like I don't know the other like that.
I feel like when the two are playing well together, it almost feels like everyone else around the team is playing better and we saw that with columns over, right? Like when Alonzo was performing well on the court like we saw how much of a difference maker he was on the court.
But we're seeing that with two different players, Um, and the chemistry that they have being that this is your first well, like this is this is exactly what Laker fans were praying for.
So to see that chemistry be exactly what we wanted and some it is great to see.
There a devastating combo when they're when they're out there.
And I like what they could do on the defensive end together as well as the offense event I've even seen coming out of LeBron James, which, you know he's effort.
Kind of wait a little bit last season on defense, not saying he was a bad defender.
But there were times where he was resting on the defensive end because he had to carry the whole burden on offense.
And so we've seen him putting in more effort.
That's been a focal point of the teams that defensive side.
They haven't been great challenging three point shooters, but I did think the first quarter against the Nets.
They showed a lot of improvement there, and then that kind of slipped when Andy and LeBron went out.
Uh, the one thing it is, though, that Anthony Dave's.
We haven't really seen his shooting touch yet.
He's hit 13 I missed a lot of mid range shots.
We haven't seen that aspect of his game just yet.
And now we've already got an injury issue.
And look pelicans, veins.
I've seen them talking on Twitter and different social media sites, saying saying, Look, this is just what it is and we're so glad we got rid of him because we were constantly dealing with injury issues.
Now we've got a sprained thumb, which, as by the way, if you have your joining us in the sports sportscaster live chat here, welcome in.
But we've gotta add Laker fan Mike's that expect to hear 80 injury update tomorrow.
Of course, we're recording this Sunday evening and Kuzma as well.
Yes, so Anthony Davis is actually getting a scan on Monday.
We thought that's game was gonna come today, but they got in late from China.
So instead it's happening.
On Monday, we'll be finding out exactly the extent of the injury sounds like it's just a great one sprain.
I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him again in preseason.
I guess that could be reality.
Just because we don't have that much left of preseason that much time, they'll probably let him heal up.
But are you concerned at all that there's already injury issues? I mean, a deal with the thumb sprain Count Koosman with the stress reaction, his foot losing boogie cousins for the season to Annecy.
You've also got Jared Dudley's been out.
We haven't seen him yet due to a calf issue.
Is it last season all over again, like should Lakers fans be worried at this point? You know, I don't think so, and I feel like obviously the one with a cousin was devastating for everyone.
Thio here about it.
It did spoke us a bit like your friends a bit, but something like Anthony Davis is thumb sprain is isn't alarming to me of I Like I said, I wouldn't to be surprised if he didn't play for the remainder of preseason.
I would be mad at it.
I'm also really training myself not to take pre season, uh, toe heart too much.
Be regardless of whether we performed better than expected or we don't perform like we expected.
I'm kind of trying to stay level headed.
That's actually something I recommend for all Laker fans, because preseason is exactly when you want K cups to happen.
Um, small injuries toe happen just like that again, these air learning curve.
But Coco's my I'm curious to see what the deal with his injury is going to be and how much that's gonna hold us back a little.
Because he has been, uh, we've seen him in practices and he has been somewhat of a difference maker when it comes to, like practices and and the rotations that they have appears to see the lineup that they're gonna put out, um, for, ah, just opening night.
But yeah, a CE faras injuries go.
Not your concern, not your concern.
I don't think it's something that, like friends should be concerned about.
I don't think it's last season all over again.
I think it's too soon to tell.
Yeah, I mean, look, I guess that's a That's a great point that we need to be, I guess cautious.
And how will we react to this? Because we've been starved for Lakers basketball for so long.
And so when you actually get a little bit of Lakers, but we're talking about three preseason games.
Tiny, tiny sample size LeBron played 1/4 last game.
Same thing with VD.
These guys were playing minuscule minutes, but the tendency is to hyper analyze every single little thing and take it as meaning something when it may not mean anything.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't like it at all because there certainly aren't takeaways from those things.
But just know that the sample size is small, so that could very well change.
Like if they come out and and they play great for the next three games.
I mean, we're gonna be celebrating, right? We we want to try not to ride the roller chemistry too much and understand that it is just preseason.
Like you said Kyle Kuzma, That's gonna be a real big one.
Look, Lakers we saw without Kyle Kuzma, they could be very good and we've seen flashes of it.
No, they didn't look great for long stretches against the Nets, but we've seen what they can be, especially on the defensive end in without Cosmo.
But with Kuzma, he's like the turbo button for the team, right? The team could be.
Could be way up here.
Could be really good, but you add him to that makes you got that extra, uh, rangy wing defender type guy that hopefully can go out and defend a little bit on the perimeter that can that can cut to the basket.
That's got a little bit of size.
They're missing that piece right now.
And you add that makes and it just raises their ceiling so much.
So I'm really hoping that he's gonna be okay for opening night.
But it's gonna be tough because he's been off his foot first so long it's gonna take time for him to get Ramp back up to speed.
We'll see. Fingers crossed Monday. These scans.
It's gonna be a big day for the Lakers.
Yeah, it's definitely something that everyone's looking forward to hearing more of.
Ah, because again, like you said, it's it's It's one of those things where you saw the young core get broken and then you saw how comes mistake and you saw the role and the energy that he was playing with the he was filling up his shoes as much as we needed him to do minutes.
Have an injury like this happened at this time complicates things.
So, yeah, I hope it's fingers process.
It's it's nothing as severe as everyone is kind of thinking.
Yeah, for Cosmo, it's gonna have to be something where we're hopefully you can get back in and just slide right back into the rotation, especially if we're not going to see Anthony Davis for a bit.
Preseason doesn't mean everything but these air valuable minutes for building chemistry And so that should be something to keep an eye on is what's the Lakers chemistry going to look like? We know there's gonna be hookups.
There's gonna be bumps in the road early in the season, Jared Dudley himself said.
Four months, probably to really develop chemistry on the offense event that takes time and so losing this time in preseason.
It's not good, but it doesn't mean that this is at the end of the world.
It doesn't mean the team is cursed in some way or anything like that Anthony Davis.
In fact, I've been very impressed with how good he's been without his outside shot.
Really following this guy has a lot of There's been a number of moments where I've been saying, Wow, this is this guy is on a whole other level than even what I had previously.
I thought he was a top seven player when he came to the Lakers, seeing him on the team and getting to watch a full full games of him out there playing.
It's he does stuff that is so, so impressive.
So I'm still optimistic about the way this season is gonna go despite a couple of rough performances and some injury issues.
Yeah, we have another reason to be.
I mean, Jesus the 1st 18 or within 18 minutes during the Warriors game.
The numbers at him and LeBron had together weren't stated.
My new it's it is just pre season, so we're now walking in with our hope side.
But the chemist, just seeing him explode on the court and that chemistry really comes alive was phenomenal.
So yeah, I'm I'm really not too concerned about.
It was so funny, cause I I did see some tweets, Um, from pelican fans about went in Ah, when ah, baby got injured and it was so tidy Eo it was so you know, it's just like all years.
So I'm excited to this chemistry.
I am not too worried about his injury, but improvement for sure, is something that we're all gonna be waiting for.
So this is something that you know, I've been saying this since the Davis trade.
Since he got traded, the Lakers pelicans fans, I get that.
They're gonna feel some kind of way about 80.
They're gonna feel What's that about him? They're gonna have that kind of venom towards him and everything.
But if you really step back and you look at this, Anthony Davis did them a favor.
He did by by telling them ahead of time that he was going to leave, that he was not going to resign.
He allowed them to get something in return.
The worst thing he could do is if he had just kept his mouth shut and then left as a free agent left him with nothing.
Now they've got a really good team to build around.
I get it doesn't feel good.
Have a player say, Hey, I don't want to be here, but he actually help them out quite a bit to help them build for the next phase of their team.
The other thing I'll say is this.
It's not like the Lakers gave the Pelicans these guys who have never missed a game.
Dude games due to injury, right? Lugs a ball has been perpetually injured.
Brandon Ingram has suffered all kinds of trimming the DVT last season.
So pelicans fans saying, Oh, we're breathing a sigh of relief because this injury prone player we finally shipped out and how we've got all these healthy players might be careful with it again.
I'm not saying I want those guy.
I hope those guys stay completely healthy, just your miners.
But it's just it's just the kind of thing where you're gonna have a fan base that's going to take shots of teams no matter what's going on.
And maybe the self awareness is lacking a little bit there.
Dude, all I'm hearing is you're just reminding them that karma exists and to also keep an eye on their players are injury prone as well.
And again we don't want to see them injured.
I'd like to see everybody.
Yeah, because injuries suck.
They're not fun.
I want to talk about another couple of players that we've got.
Seems I'm really positive things from, and this is a guy who look, we both said when we were in Vegas this last summer that this was a good signing for the Lakers.
And so far and again, it's just pre season, but so far he's proven it to be true.
That's JaVale McGee.
I played some really good minutes.
He's looked really spry on both ends of the floor.
You mean clearly, to me, it looks like the Lakers starting center.
I think he's out playing Dwight Howard by by a wide margin.
What have you like from from jail so far? Dude, honestly, he everything like you talk about a player who is.
I feel like he's playing with the stronger purpose this season, and part of it just comes again.
Like he did this family go back like deep into his past, like his family having like that strong Ellie touch to them, Um, and him being brought back.
Um, it's something that's interesting because he's he's showing a lot of players in the n b A.
What it's like to really hold your spot.
I was trying to win my buddies earlier like it's so easy to get into.
Not easy, but it's not the most challenging thing to get into your favorite team, right.
But to stay with that team and to, you know, create a legacy with that team, it is completely different.
Just stay and show.
Why do they need to bring you on boat board to show them that preseason isn't something that you're overlooking? Um, he was just so explosive during the Warriors game.
That's exactly what we want to see.
Uh, so it's It's been a really it's been really good to tow.
Watch him during this preseason because I don't feel like people expect much from devil because they know how how good he delivered.
But even then, he still goes above and beyond and over delivers.
It shows is how much more he's capable of.
Yeah, I like that.
And this isn't something that we've had a chance to talk to him about.
Hopefully, once we start doing interviews again, we can talk to him about this but obviously the the players weren't doing interviews in China.
But you look at this summer JaVale McGee heading in was looking at okay.
The Lakers brought into Marcus Cousins, who is any Davis's favorite, who is a favorite of Russian Rondo.
And and so the sense was that DeMarcus Cousins would probably wind up being the starter.
And it seems like I don't know if this was motivation for him or not, but it seems like he really put in that we saw him on.
He was all over social media, showing all of his workouts.
He put in a ton of work, and he's a guy who has always been in shape, but he's in tremendous shape at this point.
You can see he's playing in a very, very high level.
When Dwight Howard came in, That's Dwight Howard's of Major.
He's a Hall of Fame player.
That's a big name that's coming in.
That's a three time defensive player of the year.
No, he's not that guy anymore.
But still, JaVale has got to be feeling like, Hey, another guy that could be threatening my spot and he's gone out there, improving that Hey, this is my position.
You're not gonna come in and take it from me.
I am the starting center for the Lakers.
I think his play has definitely demonstrated that really impressive stuff from him, and hopefully he can keep that up.
Yeah, 1000% men. 1000.
I'm really excited.
Just like to see how again.
Just I got hungry.
This guy devil is a hungry dude and he doesn't.
I need to be deep playing at the caliber that explain or not saying is easy, but he just over is delivered.
I'll leave it at that.
He's a He's a guy that gives us more than what we even think we need.
He didn't rest on his laurels, that's for sure.
He didn't just assume that Hey, I'm the incumbent center.
So I'm gonna be the starter again this next year by default.
No, he went in and he is doing what he can do to win the spoon.
And you mentioned that, you know, he he over delivered.
He over delivers that the things that he's good at, I love that he keeps the game very, very simple.
And he doesn't get out of his own space.
You don't say he can do it, but you don't see him spotting up behind the three point line because he knows that's not necessarily inefficient play.
You don't see him complaining about post touches.
You don't see him demanding the ball and getting upset when he's not able to go with his back to the basket.
No, he runs the floor hard.
He defends like crazy, and he dunks the ball.
When the Bronner, whoever else drops it off to him occasionally in a emergency situation, will have to do a little sweeping hook across the lane because the shot clock running down and somehow the ball winds up in his hands.
But otherwise they're not drawn a place for him, and he doesn't care.
He's successful because he's so good doing all these little things that the Lakers very much need and so credit to him for understanding what it takes to be very, very good in certain areas that are gonna help the team and not worrying about the rest of it.
And yeah, he's done a great job and he's carved out a role and I think that he's gonna be big for the team this year.
Yeah, 1000% recognizing your strengths and weaknesses like it gets you to play at the level that development he is playing like he plays where you shines.
Uh, and next time I do want to talk about Dwight a little bit because he's been kind of head miss, but we'll get into that in just a moment. First.

So, Dwight Howard, the guy that we didn't think would ever be a Laker again, somehow is back in purple and gold.
What are your thoughts on what we've seen out of Dwight so far? Well, I'll tell you this.
I was really impressive.
Dunked his pants off.
He's gonna get like the game hadn't even started yet, But he should get, like, some bonus points, just just plus five in the point before the game.
If you take your pants off, that's that's gotta mean something.
It has to mean something.
I mean, it's only a player only an M b.
A player could do that.
And I'm happy that it was Dwight because I feel like he's the only player that comes to mind that could do something to pull a stunt like this off like it was.
It was explosive.
It was like, Yo, I'm concede this guy's like, ready to really put out minutes I got to get, um but yeah, now it's it.
It's been interesting.
I mean, I I'll be honest with you, like I didn't have the highest expectations for Dwight.
Um, I'm I was actually just more curious to see what he can produce And where his new we knew where his pain points we're gonna be this season.
Um, I think that Keeper sure have been better offensively than I even was giving him credit for.
Um and that's been great to see.
Um, but I still need to see a little more.
I still I'm still not all the waster about how much you how much of a staple he's gonna leave.
Ah, this season.
Um, but I'm not disappointed What I'm seeing so far.
Where's your hesitation coming from on him? What is it about his game right now? That's that's kind of that you're not, like, super thrilled about, you know it is.
I think it's just consistency.
I feel like and I am being a Laker fan like, I'm also comparing old white with New Dwight, which, which I really should be giving him a little more credit and painting a better blank canvas for him.
But I think it's just that I think it's, I think he's playing like you're protecting his spot.
Um, and I kind of want to see him let loose and get more into flow.
Fair enough? Yeah.
And look, I'm doing the same thing because I haven't made it a point to go and watch a whole lot of Dwight Howard.
You know what I mean? The last few years and last year he only played on 99 so I was expecting him to be not expect him to be explosive like he was when his last stint in the late with the Lakers or anything like that.
He wasn't super explosive.
That was coming off of an injury.
But I'm not expecting to be like the Dwight Howard that we saw wearing the Superman cape in the Don't contests and things like that that God doesn't exist anymore.
He's 33 years old, right? So I wasn't expecting that.
But even so, he has been.
His lack of explosiveness has been a little bit even more than I thought it would be.
It was a little bit less explosive than I than I expected.
He looks a little uncertain place, but again, look, Father, Times undefeated.
He's in tremendous physical shape.
I don't know that you're not looking at him thinking, Oh, this guy's just not in shape.
No, I think he's in really good shape.
It takes a little while to get into game shape.
He only played in nine games last season, so that's part of this, too.
But on the positive side, we're seeing Dwight set screens.
We're seemed what actually set really hard screens, and he's nothing but a player.
He's not brushing off of them.
He's not doing that thing where he slips the screen because he doesn't really care about the screen self anymore.
He's worried about getting the law, but the rim.
That was my big pet peeve with him.
Last time he was with the Lakers, he never made good contact on screens because he was always so concerned, was slipping it and getting himself to the rim.
He's not worried about that anymore.
We see a Dwight that's now focused on the little things that are always gonna show up in the box score because he has to write me that These are the things he has to focus on in order to stay on the team.
But still, it's a great sign.
I like that, that we're seeing him worrying about boxing out.
We're seeing him again.
Set those screens were we're seeing him attack the offensive boards.
He's doing all the things that previously he could get away with not doing because he was just so athletic.
And so now that he's a little bit athleticism, he's focusing on just playing good, fundamental basketball on dhe.
Credit to him for that.
Yeah, that 1% like I feel like so far.
If I would give him a grade for Holly doing this preseason, and I'd give him with seat like it's not.
It's something that you it's promising enough to still prove and gets a place where we like them to be.
But it's also, um, you know, I feel like it's just right in between and hopefully he does improve with time and hopefully again.
He gets into flowing, gets a lot more comfortable with his gay because I feel like for me, I'm seeing a lot of uncertainty and and like you said, it's not that he's not in shape.
I just think there's just a lot of doubt in his gain, Um, and that could just be internally like a Neil when you're coming back into when he's coming back into L.
A Were a good portion of the fans aren't really in your favorite now that you have, you have yourself off earning them again and again.
I feel like right now he's just figuring out where Hiss where he's gonna work best in like we know Javelin knows his strength.
We know that he knows exactly where his place is and where he's gonna shine.
I think it's, I think, Dwight still experimenting with that.
And what better time than preseason? Absolutely.
And you know, I'm excited for if you're listening to this on Monday for tonight's game, right, the Monday night game against the Golden State Warriors, because they'll be at home they were on.
They've been on the road so far the into the entire season.
So are the entire preseason games they've been on the road.
I want to see what the reaction is from the Staples Center crowd to Dwight Howard, a guy that they booed vociferously for years because he left when he was when he fled to the Houston Rockets.
And it was just not a good way to end things.
And now he's back and he's trying to prove himself.
I think it's gonna be interesting to see it can.
He turned the crowd.
Can you get the crowd behind him? I think you can.
I think you certainly can't.
I think it could be a really good narrative If he is able to turn the Staples Center crowd and and get the money side again, it could be kind of a I don't want to say undoing a mistake or anything like that, but it could be a nice way to to kind of close that chapter for Dwight 1000% and listen.
We need him to hold the line down for developed for a baby, and it's it's not.
It's not even necessarily about like him improving in one aspect of his getting looking said defensively like he was great and it was nice to see him just be the team player that he should be, Um but it's is just a lot more than I like to see.
There's a lot more than I'd like to see and again a C grade.
For me, it isn't isn't bad.
Like it would have been too disappointed with how you've been playing.
It's just been a lot of Ah, you know, when you're watching a gaily your watch, you watch a movie or something.
I feel like it's also like maybe inherited this from my dad.
But you're kind of just like good.
No, the interesting.
You just expected a little more from from Brian when it comes to like a pass from players and um, it's not it's not disappointed feeling.
It's just more like, You know what? I was interested to see What was he doing? What? Let's see what else you can do.
So, like, that was good.
But it could have been better.
Yeah, like it's like, you know, when he would give you some passes to some of the guys like, Okay, I was interesting.
You're like, you know, you have some offensive rebounds and is just like like it was There is some interesting moments.
It wasn't disappointed.
It was just not what I expected.
Like I expected him to come off explosive from John Ben and that not being the case, I can understand what? Yeah, I think we kind of have to tow, re re analyze where we need to be with Dwight Howard.
What are expectations should be right when you may need to take a look at that. But, yeah, he's.
I think you can play a positive role on the team this year.
Let's talk about Frank Vogel a little bit because he's, you know, the new guy coming in, and I've seen some really good things.
But I've also seen some things that could be concerning and particularly worried about the three point defense.
Now, to be fair, in the first quarter of the third preseason game, which is the second game against the Nets in China, I thought the Lakers fixed a lot of that thought.
They were doing a really good job sticking on three point shooters and at least contesting the Nets.
Chuck up a ton of threes and they were doing a nice job contesting.
Danny Green did a great job of getting it out there on guys.
Anthony Davis was putting in the extra effort.
LeBron was that entire first unit, but that once a D and LeBron went out.
Everything fell apart that I'd started hitting tons of threes again.
So what do you think about Frank Vogel so far about what you've seen on the offensive end? The defensive end? Obviously, it's very much a work in progress.
But what do you see him? You know, I I think Frank Vogel has a plan, and I think a lot of it is just coming with, like, what's the best rotation? For starters, Um, we saw, you know, the the last season where some players played positions that we never would imagine.
Some being Kyle Kuzma, for example, work.
He was running a five.
We know that his his strength is playing the three.
So I think it I, um It's not that I don't have anything a phone frank lovable right now, especially the last two games.
I think it's just like he was experimenting, and I'm glad that he's experimenting again during preseason because we didn't get that w with the Warriors and we lost back to back with the net.
But you know what? I've had some thoughts on that, too.
I don't think it was all soul only necessarily on the game.
Um, I think there was a lot of outside factors that had to do with it to that also affected players performance so much going on in China.
So, um, I don't think that that Frank, gullible or the team this is to blame for that.
I'm I've actually been pretty pleased with some of his rotations.
Yeah, I mean, look, he's trying things.
I personally would like to see Les Roger on Rondo in the starting lineup because I don't think Rondo and LeBron is a great combo.
I think that you're you're kind of, I don't know.
You're you're diminishing what they can bring.
I think Rondo with the second unit is okay and then that you could have somebody out there that can handle the ball when LeBron isn't on the floor.
But if you've got the mother for at the same time, that's an issue.
But maybe that's something that help figure out kind as he goes along, and so we'll see less of that.
But overall, I can't complain too much because it's preseason.
If this was the regular season and he's benching Danny Green so that he could start Rondo and that Casey.
Yeah, yeah, but But right now he's tinkering, and that's exactly what he should be doing.
I would like to see the Lakers making a little bit more adjustments on the defensive end of again.
That closing out in three point shooting was it was an issue.
But it's so early than the sample size is so small that I totally get why he's doing what he's doing and why.
He's been shifting things around the way he has.
And I expect that to continue for most of preseason until the last maybe game, where we see them really start to get his real rotation together.
If he even has a full team, if he doesn't have anything you need out there, it's gonna be pretty tough.
One of the things that we need to talk about about a bit is the shooting the Lakers signed about shooters over the summer.
All right, Quinn Cook, we haven't seen yet.
Troy Daniels has been just got hurt, but still you and only shooters.
Danny Green, right, comes in Jared Dudley, another guy who's been hurt.
Alex Caruso shot 48% from three last season, not so much in the last few games.
Rajon Rondo drew rave reviews for his shooting has shot a little bit better from three, but the overall the shooting that we're expecting to see hasn't been there as of this moment again.
Just tiny sample size but three preseason games in they are 24th in field goal percentage, 37th in three point percent rate.
37th because in preseason, sometimes they play other teams from outside shares.
They're 37th right now in three point percentage because they couldn't hit anything in that second game in China and 31st in free throw percentage.
So, so far, a team that brought in a ton of shooting is not shooting well at all.
Uh, it again, is that just a small sample size thing? Or is this a road trip? The China thing, or is this part of a bigger problem? You know, and I was digging too deep into that, too, because it has been a bit of a letdown.
But I also think this is just a different side to the are different angle to the conversation, I think, is Frank.
Well, uh, Frank, just like focusing on one key piece We've seen it happen in the past where we have a coach that has expectations for all offense and defense.
And it's tricky because you need both right.
But it's so difficult to really a team of players, some who haven't played with each other, some more, playing with each other for the first time ever, Um, and learn a list of offense to plays, a list of the defensive plays and then also, just like no, has better chemistry with who? I think right now we're seeing It's Frank focusing on the defensive side, Um, and not so much on the offense because I've been pretty happy with Leg has been playing defense.
Um, so I think it's that I'm not disappointed with, uh I want to.
I'm not disappointed because I would like to see a better offense.
Um, you know, I'm just not concerned with with them not outperforming ah in the offensive side and then doing a lot better during defense.
Yeah, I think that's what he's doing.
I think that I think of the planet and that plan is just like doing one thing at a time.
Yeah, and I think there's some of this element to it is the thought process, and this makes a lot of sense to me.
Has to be focused on defense because if you can get turnovers and things like that, that generates easy off.
And then on the offensive end, you've got LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
So why would you spend a ton of time putting in a bunch of offensive sets and getting things really dialed in there when you've got guys that can create in a pinch? So wouldn't you be better off focusing on the defense event at least to start? And then as the season goes on, your offense can become more and more evolved and hit higher levels of play.
I think that's kind of the thought process and makes a lot of sense.
But during preseason, it can lead to some sloppy play because you're not playing anything.
Davis and LeBron James, as much as you're going to during the regular season, when you're going to lean on them to kind of run the offense.
So yes, it's been disappointing.
Yes, the shooting hasn't been been great, but I think there's also a little bit of method to the madness here Yeah, I think so, too. I think it's strategic.
Um, I I think it's definitely something that's being done on purpose, and I'm I'm not.
It's not a bad approached, Um, we haven't.
It's been a invented tough season in last couple seasons for late your friends.
When you can't get the fundamental right, you can get these guys to get these offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds and be the defensive players that we want them to be here that we expect him to be.
So Java coach, Um, that is defensive minded.
Um, at least for the start of the preseason, it's looking like, um is a greater is a great change.
I think her leg prints, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
And look, it's not gonna go back to Byron Scott, who's just everybody man up and I'm gonna cross my arms and literate people until they do with it what I want them to do.
Uh, I don't think he's that type of coach.
I don't think he's just all defense.
I think he does have some optimistic statements and things that are gonna be throwing in, but just you only have so much time.
And so that's why course offense is gonna look sloppy.
It's not an excuse for the poor shooting, though.
I think that's mostly small sample size there because these guys are better shooters to what we've seen.
And I do want to talk in just a minute about two guys in particular, Danny Green and Avery Bradley.
What we've seen that from them.
I've seen some good things, but I've also seen some things.
They give us some cause for for a concern.
But first, I need to talk about CBS.

So Danny Green and Avery Bradley to the new guys coming in, both expected to provide a little bit of shooting.
Danny Green shot 46% from three last season, not so much so far in preseason, and that's been the fear with him that maybe there'll be a little bit of ah, regression and it's expected.
You can't just assume the guy's gonna shoot 46% from three every single season because that would make him one of the greatest to ever play the game as Faras three Amigos.
But and these get to save 40%.
Been two games since he's had a three hasn't knocked them in lately.
Avery Bradley has not been shooting well from from outside him, though.
He's done some good things.
They've both done some good things on the defensive end.
But it's the offense that's, Ah, that's been a bit of a challenge for both of them.
What do you think about what they've provided? And do you think those two guys should be in the starting lineup? You know, I Let's not Let's not diminished you.
And I'll sort of this how well Danny Green set out on the defensive end, uh, during the warrior thing.
Like it it It definitely was something that Lemon he didn't perform as well.
He only managed to get six points during that came and it was that great.
Avery Bradley didn't do great offensively either.
Um, but does that mean he said, like it's also high like eyes and the highs being that he was great, like he definitely created a lot of opportunities for the Lakers on defensive end that led him to that. W.
And I'd love to see thee more than season be.
You know, without that, Simon, like, talking about the often, um, as faras seeing them in the starting lineup.
I don't and I don't see it just yet.
I don't see just yet.
Uh, maybe any drug Dudley, Um, I see it possible, and it's it's it'll be an experimental makes of you.
Add like, um, you have LeBron in there and you have Quinn Cook made even.
I guess maybe at that point, just throw Danny Green on.
That would be interesting if I saw both of them in the starting lineup at the same time.
That would be great.
That would be really interesting.
Um, but it's so interesting that it's so hard to tell right now just because my brain is thinking which guys, they're going to be endured.
Which guys can I actually include, at least for the season opener? Um, so it's tough to give you a concrete answer on that.
I will say, though, if I did see them on a starting line that they both be together.
And you'd have Maybe Quinn could LeBron Danny Green, Jared Dudley and ah, yeah, thrown that last spot.
Well, if he's healthy, I'm assuming Anthony Davis is gonna be in there, right, Juan playing the card, just in case, in case you're looking at in case he's hurt.
So why would you be looking at like like, JaVale McGee, then? Sure.
Okay, I think the value. Yeah.
So that's that's fair.
And I think I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm gonna stay optimistic and assume that the 9 30 days will be there to start the season.
The only good news when the results of the scan is your list start the week up right after the scandal already been revealed.
If you're listening to this after that, um, gosh, hopefully hopefully we're getting a good diagnosis here, and, uh and I don't you know, sounds stupid for my optimism, but I'm optimistic.
I hope that JAVALE will be starting there at the center 88 before LeBron at the five.
It's the one of the two.
I actually really like having both Avery Bradley and dating Green in there.
No, they haven't been perfect together.
But what you meant was the defense.
I thought the defense of combination of those two guys along with the other three javale Lady and LeBron I think it gives you a really dynamic defense.
And no, they haven't agreed on the offensive end.
But look, Avery Bradley is pretty good.
Cutting off the ball on Danny Green is a good shoot.
Better than what we've seen again.
I'm gonna I'm gonna say this is a small sample size issue and that these guys can and will knock down shots eventually and that if you start them, then you've got a pretty good defense.
You've actually got a really good defense.
And Avery Bradley has done some things that I don't like.
He's been actually over aggressive.
He's picked up some fouls on the defensive end because he's been going too hard on that end.
But I'd rather start that way and have somebody like that setting the tone for the rest of the team on the defensive end, being putting in like Rondo, who may try hard but is going to get torch pretty much no matter what.
If you watch the Nets game, it was like the the Nets eyes lit up.
And whenever they saw Rondo on the floor and Rhonda trying to defend Caris, Levert and there, their offense was Give the ball to Caris, Levert and let him torture on.
We'll play from there.
So look, other teams are gonna pick on guys like that.
I don't think you can have a player out there on the floor that other teams were gonna pick on when they're trying to play defense, so that's why I'd go with both of them.
But at the same time, they haven't been perfect.
They've missed a lot of shots.
Danny Green has had some bad turnovers.
Avery Bradley's Mr Temple at the Remy.
I don't think he's hit a three yet at this point, so we haven't seen what we expected to out of them.
But I still think they are the best options in the starting lineup at this point.
We haven't seen these gets hit their prime, but again, like you said, like it's it's it.
Jared's gonna be setting the tone in that way, and that's a small fee that we have to pay that by all means, let's do it because at the end of the day, if these guys are performing the way that they're performing defensively, like I asked her out, where would this about Frank Vogel? But train the guys to just be quick to run back, uh, and and make sure that they have the outside between the competitors has been something that I can definitely see promising into the season.
Um, but it's not something that's alarming the fact that they haven't been performing mall offensively because it's not just it's two guys that have been performing walk ins.
It's an entire teeth, Um, and the fact that each guy individually has their own strengths on be friends.
We might just be waiting or or we might soon be seeing what peak offensive looks like.
This could just be us seeing what the highlights of the defensive side, what they've been working on is, and maybe in the next game or two, we'll see what the peaks in with the highs are with their offenses.
Yeah, I mean, look there, there's going to be there's gonna be a flip side to this.
There's gonna be a portion of this work where they think started click for both of them.
For Avery Bradley, for Danny Green.
For everybody else.
These guys who haven't shot well and who knows, Maybe it'll come Monday night against the Golden State Warriors, but they are going to turn things around because again, these guys are good shooters.
They just haven't shot well right now.
And I think that will change and save them with Alex Caruso.
He's had a couple of tough outings in China.
I thought he did some things well in that first game against the Golden State Warriors when he got to play in the second half.
But, uh, Caruso, Captain America, I mean, look, people are super super excited about him.
People have been thrilled.
He's been the MIM of the paper, right? Andi hasn't quite lived up to expectations yet, but I still think there's something there.
There's another level that these guys haven't quite gotten to yet.
For whatever reason, whether it was a travel of being in China, all the tension going on around that whole situation, the players who were put out on the floor constantly changing rotations, all of that it hasn't been an ideal situation for these guys.
But I guess the message to fans out there should be.
Don't get too upset over what we're seeing here in preseason, because we know these guys are better players than what we've seen.
Just trust that they will play better because they've got that skill. They've got that ability.
They have the ability, and it's one of those things Burt like, he said.
There's so many factors outside of the game that are coming into play.
Aside from the travel like it's, it's canceling actual events that these players have it.
It's, you know, almost like not giving them the China experience, that they thought that they were gonna get theirs.
Please, I looked forward to this, you know, from summer like they're looking forward to the troubles in the culture and then the fans, if they have in a completely different country, and then to have something be, as you know, be the situation that it is can sometimes leave a toxic feeling in your mouth like we don't know exactly how these players I even going about in practice, how they're you know how well they're getting.
Just like with everything around China has been so negative.
So again, I don't think that we're seeing the crew so yet that we all kind of expected to see you.
But it's like you said, it's not anything to be concerned about.
It is just preseason.
So if any of this was gonna happen at any moment in the season, now is the time.
All right, Denise.
So let's let's wrap with this.
The game against the Warriors.
Or at least let's let's even project out beyond that just the rest of preseason, Just in case anybody's listening this on, say Tuesday after they've already played the Warriors.
Sure, What is it that you're hoping to see? What do you want to see from this team that everybody was so hyped up about after that went against the Warriors? And now there's been kind of a a ah, downward trend here after these two losses in China.
But what is it that you want to see if the remainder of the preseason before the regular season kicks off? I definitely want to see them will step up a team offensively, I think it's something that we have yet to see.
Obviously, the injuries and injury update would be great just to know exactly what we're gonna be dealing with feet for the remainder of the preseason.
And then also for opening night.
Um, and then just individually, I'd like to see Maur of Danny Greene and ah Caruso.
I just want to see.
And Dwight Howard, I'd die hard on that list is because it's I had had a moment of realization in the middle of the pie.
Casper, I said I was.
I said I was giving Dwight the benefit the Dow and and seeing where he was going to go.
But then I realized, like Holy St, like his entire time I was comparing old lights.
And you, Dwight, um so I want to see those three, uh, outperformed their last three games.
This is you were there at doesn't see what we're getting into for, ah, opening season and the first quarter of the season at least, um, I think if those guys were healthy yet and they figure out where their strengths are, I think we could be like, you know, a lot more popular than a lot of friends even accepted.
Yeah, I think that's a great point.
Look, all distractions aside and This is actually kind of perfect, because the Lakers are playing the Warriors for all the rest of their preseason games.
So all distractions aside, right? You know, you're not traveling to China.
You're not dealing with that whole geopolitical issue.
You're not dealing with any of those sorts of things.
Now you've just focus on what's going on.
I want to see what these guys can really bring who are really when you're on a normal like Alex Caruso was sliding all over the floor in the last game.
He was slipping like crazy on a normal n b a floor in California because you're playing up north with the Warriors or down here in l. A.
But what can these guys do? What can they really do? You think this is gonna be a n'importe thing toe to find out over these next few preseason games before they kick off the season by playing the Clippers? Yep.
No, man, it's exciting.
And here's hoping that we get Andre to, uh, yes, you know, we we didn't That was on our list of things to talk about.
We didn't even mention that.
So, Andre, with all the latest news on that was that a few more Djurovski, when he was talking to Zach Lowe on a podcast, mentioned that it's between the Lakers and the Clippers for Andre Iguodala.
And, look, I mean, we're seeing right now part of the reason why they needed under Iguodala.
You saw the next take advantage of the fact that the Lakers don't have a lot of wings right now, Kyle Kuzma.
Instead, you've got a guy who's 69 legs on and Moosa and or Caruso who are out there.
They're draining threes over guys like KCP, who's 65 and just can't quite contest those shots.
Kuzma get out there can make a difference on that, Uh, would always another guy who can make a difference. Defending wings.
And yet it could come down to the Lakers battling the Clippers yet in it, yet again, like the Kawai Leonard situation.
So if he is bought out from the Memphis Grizzlies, won't you saying that? And that hasn't happened yet and doesn't sound like it's happening any time soon.
But if and when it does happen, it's gonna be between the Lakers and the Clippers.
So how big of a signing would that be before we finish up here? And would it be devastating if we went to the Clippers? Let's keep it positive, since we're ending the podcast here and then on. I know.
Let's say that he goes to L.
Being the Lakers, I think he could end up to be one of the most clutch players, its key components of the team.
I'm A lot of people are saying that, you know, he, he mentally he's he might not be right.
Um, he is very injury prone, But let's also remember what his performance was last season with the Warriors like it can still play at a high level.
It's not something that should go unnoticed.
So I think and I'm hoping and we're ending this podcast on a high note, my fingers are crossed for those listening on this podcast, all figures Ah, that the Lakers get Iguodala and it's something that's gonna get us closer to that championship that we're all that everyone's hoping for.
Here's what I want to put out there and look, the chances are minuscule of Andre would all listening to this, but just my pitch to you would all would be this on the Clippers.
He doesn't matter that much.
They have a ton of wings already, right? They've got guy that I mean Kawai letter.
Paul George about Mo Harkless.
They've got all these players that are probably playing ahead of him on the Lakers, though, like he goes to the Clippers, he makes them maybe just a tiny bit better.
And he's not really leaned upon that much on the Lakers.
They need a wing defender.
It's clear that's the biggest hole on their roster right now, unless you want to say that they need a more established point guard, which, okay, I get it.
But the biggest hole in the roster to me right now is another wing defender.
I think it would all go into the Lakers.
Makes a really big difference, and he'll probably see it.
It's the most and any role, whereas on the Clippers it makes just a tiny it's Actually, it's more important for the Clippers that they keep him away from the Lakers than anything else than they actually need him.
You play on the floor for them, so if he wants to go somewhere where he can contribute and really make a difference.
The Lakers are the no brainer choice.
Now, of course I'm biased in that.
But she bought out Andre Iguodala makes the right decision and put down that purple and gold.
Yeah, I know, man.
And it would be It would just be a moment if you get the news Monday morning.
Kyle, Whose money? Ready for opening the first quarter of the season? A B E injuries.
Not that serious.
You're gonna be present for the last game of preseason in Hee.
Welcome to Los Angeles.
Welcome to the lay Gree.
That would be the best week in October, ever.
And I could use a good happy week, man.
That would be a great way to start off a week.
I wouldn't even be mad that it was a Monday at that point.
If those things all happen, let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that, uh, that's actually what goes down.
All right, then he say thanks so much.
Obviously, you had a really, really long day, but appreciate you coming on here and joining me.
And thank you so much. Probably had a lot of guys.
