cast here a sportscaster and Washington coming at.
You still feel about this camera coming at you? Um, gonna discuss a little bit about pelicans.
Jazz just finished up here.
Final score 1 28 1 27 Pelicans.
Pelicans look really good tonight.
Um, you know, this is preseason.
We're gonna take this all the grain of salt.
But there were a few things that I saw that were very intriguing.
Ah, really May be excited to see the pelicans more excited that I was already and I didn't think was possible.
But here we are.
Zahn is a freaking beast.
The dude, the dude's stealing is pretty much unlimited.
I think at this point you're looking at a guy that his only real weakness is a shot.
His i Q is pretty incredible.
Incredible body control, strength, ball handling all this stuff.
I mean, yes, so many tools at his disposal, athletic tools.
All he really needs to do is going up that defense a little bit.
Of course, his decision making is gonna take some time as well.
That's just something that you have to get accustomed to.
Some of the commentators for this game we're talking about that talking with him, talking about with Alvin Gentry about what he needs to work on, uh, going into his rookie season, defense is the big thing For him, the speed of the game is definitely something that most rookies just have a hard time adjusting to.
So unless you're somebody like, I don't know, maybe a market smarter Robert Covington, you're not gonna come in just being a plus on defense.
Most people are at mass media average defender, usually below average.
Just something you've got to think about when evaluating rookies.
But from offense, this offensive perspective, the dude is a beast and spoiler alert.
I have a piece coming out on about him here and probably a couple weeks.
I have a lot of stuff on in the pipeline right now, but I will say that when it comes to Zion and his potential, there are few comes for him.
They're pretty legit.
Incredible cops for where he could end up stealing wise.
I won't say that he's good at that level, but comparable to I'm not gonna name those names right now.
They're pretty legit.
So you can take your guess is on who those players might be.
But in the meantime, I love what I see from him is an efficiency. It's incredible.
Last two games, 48 minutes total.
21 of 25 from the field.
All the shots are basically within five feet.
Except for that three pointer here tonight.
Do want to point that out.
He was a one for one from three.
So this isn't Ben Simmons.
I don't even think it's gonna be Mark Health Foltz, where he's just hesitant to shoot. And he has.
You know, all these issues where he's not confident you just want to take the shot.
I think he's gonna bypass all that.
He's gonna go straight to just being, you know, below average.
You know, it's fine.
He's not to be expected to do all that much.
He is a guy that's gonna come in, bring energy, pick a spots, be a cutter, be a rebounder, is rebounding is something that I think we're not talking about enough.
That's underrated part of his game.
He could come in and automatically average six plus rebounds a game.
That's just something that, with his size, not even being like a big man means like, Oh, he's a big man slash wing on.
You really know what his position is.
Want to see it before, but he's gonna come in.
He's gonna average 678 rebounds a game. Easy.
That's just something for him.
That's not gonna be that hard just because of his explosiveness and his just this knack for finding the rebound coming off the rim at just the right time.
It's something he said he's worked on right after the game, and he's gonna have zero issues.
Is coming into being an energy player like that's all he has to do.
That's a great benefit for a guy coming in as a rookie is just to be able to pick your spots delicately.
Just be real patient.
Let the game come to you.
He's not expected to come in here and be a franchise savior.
Alvin Gentry David Griffin have mentioned this on many occasions.
He is not expected to come in and beat this this, you know, savior and the spectacular franchise altering player they dragged in him for the future.
He's 19 years old, he has tools.
Sure, he's gifted, but you have drew holiday.
You have Derrick favors.
You have Lonzo ball.
I mean, you have pieces around him, Brandon Ingram that can come in and assume that responsibility in the wait so that Zion doesn't have to endure that.
So is that it can come in and he could be a starter.
Sure, he could be made of the fourth option on offense.
And they could just just feed off of those touches that he gets from Lonzo Ball that he gets from Drew holiday.
Because those guys, they're smart, they're great pastors.
They're great teammates.
They're going to send him up.
They're gonna put him in positions to succeed.
So he's not gonna have to worry about dominating the ball findings on offense.
He could let the game come to him so that somebody has going for him in his rookie year.
And I think the sky's the limit.
Um, I'm putting him down is my rookie of the year.
I think the opportunities are gonna be there.
That's kind of the first thing you need.
If you're gonna be a rookie of the year candidate, you have to have opportunities.
That's the first thing.
If you're not starting and you're not getting minutes.
You're not a rookie of the year, period.
It's just not gonna happen.
But for him, he's gonna get 25 30 minutes a game off the bat.
He's gonna start.
He's gonna get touches.
As I said, yes, guys setting him up.
So he's gonna be in a prime position to be the rookie of the year.
If not that he's leaving top three Easy.
The only other guys that might have the opportunities he he does is, you know, maybe I'm everything R J.
Barrett's gonna have that many opportunities just because of all the veterans that are around him.
Ah, the kind of the circus that New York always has going on.
John Durant is probably all the other guy I can see.
That just has a straight path.
Here is getting tons of minutes, tons of touches all the time being able to put up those points.
Assists those stats, but going away from Zion for a second, I want to shine a light on another rookie that is doing really great things for the pelicans so far.
Solomon Summer League washed him a little bit and he's continued his very strong play into the preseason.
That's the kill.
Alexander Walker. 22 points tonight.
Two boards, four assists, seven of nine shooting.
And here's the kicker.
So this is a guy that comes in at a legit 65 Great length.
Great instincts, great basketball like you.
He really knows how to play the game coming from the Virginia Tech out of college.
Ah, he just has this this composure about him.
This, um, this composure, this, um he just has this smart.
She has a knack for the game.
Competing with Frank Jackson for that backup guard spot is gonna be a fierce battle.
You have to throw each one more, and you also have to throw in Josh Hart.
So between those four guys, uh, there's gonna be a lot of competition for the guard spots after holiday, and ball is just gonna hate who wants it the most.
Ah, so Alexander Walker is making a great case for heavy, legit minutes.
Ah, Still best case scenario.
I think he maxes out about what you got tonight.
I would say 15 minutes.
He was approaching 16 minutes.
That's probably the cat for him.
Frank Jackson got 20.
He's not gonna be getting 20 in the regular season.
That's kind of Ah anomaly.
Because you also have J. J Reddick danger when it got 17.
So you know what? The season starts? J.
J is going to be getting 2025 28.
So Frank and Alexander Walker gonna be pushed down the pecking order, obviously.
But just going up and down the roster, just looking at the opportunities that the Pulitzer pelicans are gonna have It's just fantastic.
And it automatically makes them a top five leak past team because you have a nice combination of veteran presence and talent.
And, of course, you have the fun factor with guys like Alonzo uh J J Reddick running around like it's heads cut off, draining threes.
Uh, you know that I'm coming into doing his thing.
So from top to bottom, the pelicans just have a fantastic team specifically for tonight.
They won by one point, and I really thought that in the third quarter they were not looking so hot.
Um, you know, post halftime.
Ah, you know, they really took it in the fourth quarter.
They won that quarter 39 to 27.
And, of course, this is all kind of wacky, because starters none of the game.
It's bench guys.
You can't really take anything away from the fourth quarter these games.
But nonetheless, it was good to see the Pelicans kind of keep their composure.
Come back and force, um, forced a close game the first half.
It kind of got away from them.
In the second quarter, they were outscored by seven.
The Jazz's biggest lead was 14 so they were at risk of letting the game get completely out of hand.
But date they kept it close.
They did what they had to do to kind of chip away at the lead and give themselves a chance going down the stretch.
But the big reason for the pelicans you've been getting in that position in the first place is that lack of experience, what you get beyond holiday and Derrick favors.
There's not a lot of experience.
You look at Josh Heart ball and Ingram.
There are there between two and four years of experience.
That's not a lot. It's really it's really not.
Reddick, of course, is a veteran there, but Alexander Walker Jackson Hayes.
Mellie has played overseas, but he has not played in the n B A.
So he needs to get a justice.
Well, um Frank Jackson, second year player up and down the list of this roster.
There's just not a lot of experience.
So they're gonna take their lumps thereto have games.
They just don't have it.
They got beat several times while I was watching the second quarter just by that driving kid game.
Um, their defense got penetrated in the middle.
Ah, Jazz kicked it out of the corners.
Donovan Mitchell had tons of quarter threes.
Bogdanovich has some open threes.
Mike Conley, you go down the list, there's guys you just cannot leave open.
They were getting open looks and, um, going to the three point percentage here.
The jazz shot 43 actually, 50%.
So I mean, that just tells you right there, 50% from three.
You can't allow that, Especially when you're playing these teams in the Western Conference.
In your own division, there is the pelicans.
You're gonna get burned.
And I think if the starters had continued to play tonight, it would have been an easy one for the Jazz.
They're already kind of taking advantage of those situations that the pelicans left for them.
You know, they were jumping out to 10 15 point lead, and, you know, it probably would've stayed that way.
If this were a regular season game, the Jazz part would have took this by 10 15 points, 12 whatever.
So for the pelicans, I don't have them making the playoffs right now.
I put them about night.
I'd say they win and the low forties is forest games go, maybe 40. 41.
Just not good enough in the West.
Gotta make that clear in the Western Conference to make the playoffs.
So I just don't think their defense is gonna be there at a consistent basis designed.
Still learning the ropes and you go down the list of those young players.
None of them are really established defensively.
Can't do it by himself.
Reddick could be a liability, and just because of this size is getting older.
His lateral quickness isn't there, so you know, holiday and ball are very strong in the backcourt, but after that, it's just kind of iffy interior defense.
Perimeter defense aside from those two guards is definitely gonna be something to look out for.
It's gonna be a weak spot, so awkward.
The Pelicans route said the playoff race.
But as far as a lead past team, pure excitement there is exciting and just riveting.
Interesting as any team in the league.
Honestly, uh, so that's about it for the pelicans.
You know, I'm getting hyped up on them as you can, as you can see for good reason.
So they have a lot to look forward to you.
I just don't be there to make the playoffs at this time over on the Jazz side, they had control of this game for most of the time.
It's up until the fourth quarter.
Um, pretty balanced effort.
Royce O'Neil led the way with 16 for them.
Bogdanovich in Gobert had 15 apiece.
Jeff Green Uncle Jeff Green on Twitter had 20 points, Colleen, 13 and out of the Mitchell struggle a little bit with 10 points.
But across the board, I mean, they just have so much depth, I think, between them and the Pacers, probably the most stepped in the league, you know, pelicans are there as well.
They just go probably 10 or 12 deep on that team.
Uh, not enough minister goal around for the amount of contributors.
Solid, consistent contributors on this team.
But that's a good problem to have frequent cider.
He wouldn't have it any other way.
He doesn't run on isolation offense.
He likes guys to get.
Um there touches everybody to be involved.
Equal opportunity offense.
Nobody's gonna be singled out.
The ball moves and good shots are gonna be generated.
That was the case tonight.
On many occasions.
Um, you know, I just said they stopped 50% from three.
They shot 59% from the field.
So they're gonna get their offense early and often, I'm sure.
And their defense is gonna be there with Colbert.
Me? And if you have a guy like oh, beer, you're gonna have ah, pretty solid defense.
So that's something they shouldn't have to worry about.
Too much eso going down the list here.
You know Devon Mitchell struggle a little bit.
His shot selection was good and bad at times.
Two of six from three.
Uh, you know, he picked his spots reasonably well, did have seven assists, so That's something that's around to look out for.
You should have more opportunities to be a distributor.
Ironically enough, him and his new backcourt mate, Mike Conley, each had seven assists.
So Donovan's definitely gonna have more opportunities to dish the ball and just play off the bowl.
And the recipient of those passes just because of Conley there, in the back or with him, that's definitely gonna boost his office efficiency.
Didn't look like it's night.
You couldn't tell from tonight's results, but it will be there.
I'm pretty confident that he's gonna do great things out there.
Do you want to give a shout out to war? So, Neal, for his, um, performance here second leading scorer on this team.
Four of six from three here tonight, six of eight from the field.
Um, he had a lot of open shots as that pelicans defense kind of buckled a little bit, but he took advantage, all right, so Neil got his start in the front court along Bogdanovich and Gobert, interested to see if that becomes a trend.
If Joe Ingles comes off the bench like you did tonight may have just been a preseason thing, but it could be that Jeff or rather, Russell Neil starts.
And you have Joe Ingles coming off the bench with, um, with Jeff Green.
It looks like it will be a good fit for those guys.
I know Joe getting into his thirties, he's gonna want less, uh, less of, ah, burden on his shoulders.
The jazz went on him a lot.
You gotta run the offense.
Ah, lot of pickle roll ran through Joe Ingles last season, but this sees with guys like Bike Ali in the fold.
Ah, he's not gonna have to do that as much.
Which is it's good and bad.
I'm sure he wants more touches.
He wants to be more involved.
But at the same time, if you let him kind of run the show a little bit on the second unit along with Jeff Green, why Conley and Mitchell sit? Or maybe you throw him in? Uh, if cali or Mitchell, um, sit, maybe they stagger those lineups.
That's another way to go another route for though.
So the jazz have a lot of options here, and those lives are gonna be rich.
You know, the second unit tonight, Jeff Green.
Ed Davis, Um, George's Ni A Ah pretty much ran that second unit.
They were the nose four major players to have time coming off the bench.
That's something that could become ongoing trend for them.
Uh, so you look at this roster from top to bottom.
They have a lot of options.
Quin Snyder's gonna have some good problems as far as finding enough playing time for all these guys.
But based on tonight's results, I think they got pretty much all they wanted out of this team.
Everything that coach is looking for, they didn't win, but it doesn't really doesn't matter.
They're just looking for good habits to be built here.
That's what you're looking for in preseason.
So by all accounts for both sides, I think it was a successful night.
You know, there are a lot of games tonight, but I wanted to highlight this one because it's the one that I, uh I caught the most of it.
But also just sigh on.
Um uh, just a few more things on sign here real quick for wrap this up.
You know, Zahn's body control is something that stuck to me as Well, he had one instance.
Uh, I think it was during the second quarter where he got a pass from Brandon Ingram.
He was right in the middle of paint and he elevated off the two feet with no rings. Start.
It was straight vertical leap went into Gobert.
And he just has this insane ability Contort his body in the mini er which for a guy his size makes absolutely no sense.
I know for most of us were average human beings.
Average weight, average height, shorter guys.
We couldn't even come close to what he did. I know I can't.
I'm I know for a fact s so if you're 66 to 80 and you're doing stuff like that, I wouldn't even know.
I don't even know what to say about it.
Other than it's just, um it doesn't seem human.
It's really an alien kind of freak of nature act out there when he's out there.
Just moving around is being so fluid and land on his feet.
It really is incredible.
I think I'm gonna be in the camp where I'm buying all the stock.
I know That's easy to do for a guy.
That's a number one pick.
But I'm gonna go on a limb.
I say he ends up being a Hall of Famer.
Ah, superstar for this team, once holiday kind of passions, the baton, so to speak.
Sounds could be the face of New Orleans if he isn't already, and he is gonna do amazing things.
But, you know, I'm not just going off a pre season here.
I didn't just come up with this opinion today.
It's something that I've really just been thinking about before Summer league, probably before college.
Just I just get this feeling from him.
He just has all the characteristics of a guy that's gonna continue to work, continue to get better and utilize those gifts to make the most of his opportunity.
So that's about all I got guys for this game, Uh, kind of like my introduction, my first leap here into sportscaster.
I would have a lot more coming this season.
I'm glad that I have a platform now where I can kind of talk to you guys just a dedicated streaming service where I don't have to go to Instagram and bother my friends that are not into ball.
You know they don't really like that when I'm just kind of constantly just going on Instagram Live and talking about these games were like, Dude, we don't care about basketball were we're here for football or baseball or whatever.
So that's besides the point.
But just glad to be here on Sportscaster.
This is fantastic.
After what I've been able to see already bit about been able to connect with a lot of you guys are a lot of fellow basketball fans, sports fans.
So, um, excited to chop it up with you guys, you know, hit me up.
If you have any questions or any other thoughts, maybe from this game or from Zion or from anything, really, in general, as far as the N b.
A goes very excited to be under two weeks away from the start of the regular season, Fine.
If these matchups are any indication word for a fun ride.
I can't wait to see where this all goes and, uh, try to get back on here tomorrow with some more thought.
So we only have two games tomorrow.
What is at 7:30 a.m.
So what kind of see how that goes.
But in any case, I'll be back real soon.
Uh, open it for you guys too much from my first sports caster kind of venture here.
First episode, so to speak.
But, uh, this is a great game tonight.
Pelicans took it.
Zions look spectacular.
Um, also Brandon Ingram.
I think Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball are gonna have major bounce back seasons.
Ah, Brandon kind of finished last season on a sour note.
He was injured a little bit, had a health scare with the blood clot.
And then Lonzo ball, just kind of, you know, he had his injuries, But Lonzo ball with that new shot, guys, keep a look out for him. He's gonna be dangerous.
He already has the passing game.
The defense of the shot is anything like you look tonight, which, you know, I'll go to his box score road quick.
You know, he was He was four of 10 from the field, two of five from three, but it's looking good.
He's looking very confident in that jump shot.
And, um, he could be most improved player.
So if you guys were thinking like that, let me know I might have to put him put him on there when I do my award predictions.
But, um, that's about it for this time, guys, I'll be back real soon and look forward and you'll be back on here so you
