Okay, so Anthony Davis, this look.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo did a tremendous job of revealing some information about Anthony Davis in a peace that he wrote on.
First and foremost, he mentioned revealed that LeBron James after the e d deal went down.
LeBron James, he went to Lakers higher ups.
This is according to Chris Haynes, and he requested that Davis be the focal point of the offense, not himself.
That in and of itself shows so much self awareness from LeBron James understanding that he will be turning 35 years old this next season.
That despite all of the money and we're talking, it's into the millions of dollars that he spends every year on his body, making sure that he is as physically fit as he possibly can be that he is going to have as much longevity is someone can.
Ultimately, Father Time is undefeated.
At some point, he has to pass the torch.
At some point, someone else has to come along to do the heavy lifting and look.
LeBron James probably had to do too much of the lifting last season.
In fact, we know one of the things that the Lakers sold LeBron on when he came to the Lakers was Magic Johnson telling him that they were going to surround him with pieces that could do some of the lifting forum, some of the playmaking that he wasn't gonna have to have the ball in his hands anymore, and that appealed to LeBron James and wasn't gonna be all on him to create the often shirt he would pick his spots.
He would still control the majority of possessions.
But there were other guys coming in rage on Rondo.
Lance Stephenson course.
Being out there, Brandon Ingram being out there, all of these other guys will be able to take some of the pressure off of him, and some of the burden off of him thereby extend.
His career didn't happen.
LeBron wound up having to do a ton of the heavy lifting anyway, Now he's got Anthony Davis, and the first thing he does is he goes, and he asked for the team to run through a D.
He understands a 26 years old.
Anthony Davis is a superstar in his prime right now.
And look, if this is correct, if Laurent sticks with this and I'm gonna talk about how realistic this isn't. Just a minute.
But if LeBron six with this, we have to think that Anthony Davis is gonna be an M v p candidate if the Lakers are as good as we think they could be and the offense truly does run through.
Anthony Davis and LeBron James does what he can to set up a d.
We're looking at legit M v p candidate year for Anthony Davis, and that is super exciting for Lakers fans to have someone of that caliber here.
And just to throw this back to a few months ago, when the Lakers were courting Kawhi Leonard, this was one of the rumors that was out there was that LeBron was actually telling Kawai Hey, his part of his pitch was that he would step aside, that the team wasn't gonna be his anymore.
It was gonna be quiet.
It was gonna be Anthony Davis is.
His job would be to make them look good.
And that was part of the selling point.
Duke wide Leonard.
So look, the king is very much ready to vacate the throne and allow someone else to step into that spotlight and that someone else appears to be Anthony Davis.
Great news for the Lakers, because you're going to see a peaceful transition of power.
There's no Shaq versus Kobe rivalry or anything like that.
LeBron is willing Feli handing over control to Anthony Davis.
And let's not forget, LeBron tried to give Anthony Davis his number.
In addition to doing this.
In addition to going and telling management, the offense needs to run through a D.
LeBron tried to give him number 23 until that was next by Nike.
I think that's gonna happen the following year instead.
But, yeah, look, things were looking good for the relationship between LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
And I think at this point we have to ask the question, Is this now Anthony Davis's team? Because it certainly seems that way.
And it seems like that's what LeBron James wants now for Davis himself.
What I love we have learned all about him working on his three point shooting said that the other day, in fact, in yesterday's show mentioned that Anthony Davis has been working on his three point shooting and that he thinks that's gonna be a really important piece for his offensive game and for the Lakers over all that, he's right, perhaps even more exciting.
Asked about his goals, Davis told Chris Haynes that he wants to be defensive player of the year.
We've got a guy on the team already that's done it three times.
And Dwight Howard LeBron James at one point was a good defender was okay last season, probably better than he he gets credit for.
But there were a lot of place where you could see he was kind of taken time off on defense.
But here, I mean, 80 said.
And this is the direct quote.
I want to be defensive player of the year.
I think if I'm able to do that, I can help this team win.
The offensive end will come around, but defensively, I wanna hold myself teammates, including LeBron, accountable.
In order for us to take on the challenge of being the best we can be defensively, I mean, Frank Vogel must have done a back flip as soon as he read that quote.
That is incredible stuff from a coach's perspective to hear your star player, the guy that apparently the offense is gonna be running through, saying he wants to take responsibility for the defense, that he wants to make sure that everyone is following in line.
Even LeBron James, even LeBron, who sometimes didn't try as hard as maybe he should have or could have on the defensive end last season, Anthony Davis is saying no, even LeBron.
I'm gonna be holding him accountable.
That's Anthony Davis stepping up and saying, This is gonna be my team.
I'm gonna be responsible for it and I will hold everyone.
I don't care who you are.
I don't care if you're LeBron James one of the greatest of all time.
I will hold him accountable as well.
He wants to be the defensive player of the year.
6 10 76 Wingspan.
Incredible shot blocker has enough agility to defend on the perimeter.
If his mind is set on becoming defensive player of the year, he very well could do it.
He has that caliber of player, and last season the Lakers finished 13th in defensive rating overall, but they had a massive slide in the second half of the season when the calendar year flipped over to 2019.
They dropped like crazy.
They actually started this season playing pretty good defense.
That was what was keeping them in a lot of games.
But as the season we're on, the defense slipped.
If a D can come in and really revitalize the defense along with guys like Danny Green, Alex Cruz, so getting out there, Avery Bradley players like that.
If they cannot, the defensive intensity This team can do some really good things.
And Anthony Davis is 100% right.
Offense will come and go.
The NBA's and make maker mislead.
Some nights, the shots just started falling.
But if you can play defense consistently, if you can continue to put in that effort that Anthony Davis is talking about right here, you can stay in games and steal games even when your offense isn't clicking.
I think that's very, very big that Adie understands that and wants to be a leader on that end of the floor really big for them.
So again, does this become Anthony Davis's team? Well, here's the big question Now.
Last summer, we heard all about how LeBron wasn't gonna be handling the ball as much that was the big talking point was that LeBron was not going to take a back seat.
But he least he was going to lighten the load a little bit on guys like Rayshawn, Rondo and Lonzo and branded and grim and all these other players didn't really happen.
Instead, LeBron still had to do the heavy lifting, laid the shot clock.
LeBron's getting the ball, having to create most of the offense ran through him despite saying all these things last year.
So now we're hearing that he actually told management he wants the ball and run through Anthony Davis.
He is giving up his number or trying to give up his number.
He's doing everything he can to show that this is gonna be Anthony Davis's team.
But when the going gets tough, when we get into crunch time, when we're in a close game, the Lakers are dealing with a close game on the road.
The record is kind of slipping a little bit or they're kind of in a in a funk.
Is LeBron going to take over? Is it going to become the LeBron show again, or are his actions gonna going to prove true to his words here, and he's going to really take a back seat.
Say, Sadie, this is your team.
This is your time to pull us out of this.
Put us on your shoulders and we'll follow you.
Is that the men the route he's going to take? I think it's gonna be interesting to see something to watch all season long, but for right now, for even even get into any of that kind of stuff.
I think everything the Anthony Davis is saying here is great is wonderful for the Lakers.
Great stuff from LeBron James to understand the situation and have the kind of self awareness that he does these.
This is a great sign for the Lakers moving forward, and all he could say at this point is, Can we start this season already? I want to see a locked in Anthony Davis.
I want to see Anthony Davis, who is just an absolute monster on the defensive and I want to see an offense running through 80 taking advantage of his passing, which he is a better pastor.
I think that he gets credit for taking advantage of his ability to score I want to see what kind of damage LeBron James can do when people are focusing on Anthony Davis.
I want to see these shooters that they brought in gosh season can't come soon enough.
I know Lakers fans.
