What if I told you the New England Patriots defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 33 to 3, and they did it without their 22,018 tackle leader, Kyle Van Noy? And what if I told you the Patriots made a statement and they were missing their starting tight end, Ben Watson, to suspension one of their best receivers in De Marius Thomas and their starting center, David Andrews injury? What if I told you despite those guys, the defendant, Super Bowl champions, looked even better than last season? And Antonio Brown has it? In case you've been living under a rock, that's exactly what happened.
And tonight all break down the game in the message that the Patriots sent to the rest of the NFL.
The Patriots officially welcomed Antonio Brown today, and there are a lot of people worried or who just flat out.
Don't think Antonio Brown experiment with the New England Patriots will work out.
So I'll take a couple of minutes and explain to you why I think it will.
And even if the worst happens, why this is a very low risk signing for the Patriots.
The Patriots had a very low key under the radar signing on her, I guess.
Extension on Saturday that was overshadowed by Antonio Brown signing with the team.
And that was when cornerback Jonathan Jones getting extended till 2022.
And I'm gonna talk about why I think that was such a great move by Bill Belichick.
Because here on d p n, we like football.
We like football season and everything that goes with it.

And with all that out of the way, let's talk about our New England Patriots.
So after the fury of Saturday and everything coming down from the media and the closing opposing fan base is about Antonio Brown signing with the New England Patriots and after an off season about hearing how the Patriots are done.
And that was their final Super Bowl when they beat the Rams of Super Bowl 53.
After a week of Steeler fans and Jason Whitlock guaranteeing victory on Sunday Night Football, let's look over some of the sweet looking headlines from the media today.
ESPN headline was Patriots often overlooked defense roles in route of Steelers Deadlines said Patriots shatter the Steelers an opener.
CBS Sports Patriots Flex deep all potential and win over Steelers.
The Washington Post says Patriots looked unbeatable against the Steelers, and now they're adding Antonio Brown in the international set.
Patriots dominance on display ahead of Antonio Brown's arrival.
You know what? I didn't see any B s about the Patriots dynasty being done.
No questions about the culture for today.
I guess Tom Brady's not too old for the NFL and that Cliff seems to be getting further and further away.
Nobody is claiming Yeah, telling Patriot fans reminding Patriot fans that the Pats start off slow in September.
There's no crow to be eaten today and no defending our team's on field performance.
They pats nation.
We get to gloat now.
The Patriots victory over the Steelers was more than a statement.
It was a warning to the rest of the National Football League.
Any illusion that the Patriots have been taking a step back died at Gillette Stadium last night.
The Patriots controlled that game against the Steelers from opening kickoff.
Some of you may know I'm a nervous viewer to blood pressure.
And basically, after the second quarter last night, I had no nerves.
When the Steelers couldn't score on their final possession of the first half, I called the game right there.
You don't believe me? Go watch my stream on sportscaster.
I said it when they couldn't score.
Guys, I spent most of training camp saying that this was gonna be the most complete team that the NFL are that the Patriots ever seen in the Brady Belichick area.
And it's starting to look like I'm right, because last night's game was a complete team win.
Now, Frank Schwab, from Yahoo Sports wrote an article called Patriots Look Like a machine Sunday night in the aft Antonio Brown in two weeks.
Now he gives really, to me the perfect breakdown of last night's game and exactly what my thought processes.
And by now you guys know how this works.
Let's go through the article together, and I'll give my thoughts.
So here's that we start the article.
The New England Patriots will add Antonio Brown before week, too, and they play the miserable Miami Dolphins next Sunday.
If you wanted some help that we get if if you wanted some hope that we get someone other than the Patriots and its seasons, this season's Super Bowl Sorry guys, there was.
None could be found on Sunday night.
The Patriots look better than ever in the dismantling of the Pittsburgh Steelers, 33 3 It was reminiscent of the most dominant Patriots games from 47 6014 or whichever great New England team you want to pick.
All right, So look, comparing last night in this team to the 0407 2014 team, it got me super excited, and the only difference between the 2014 team and now is that they started a lot.
This team looks ready to dominate the entire season.
And you know, guys, the Patriots thrive under controversy.
We all know that.
That's when they play at their best when they're when they're under controversy.
And even though their on field product has been great, there's enough off field stuff to really get them riled up.
You look at the Josh Gordon situation.
You can look at the Antonio Brown situation.
Tom Brady's too old the Ben Watson suspension.
The offensive line is in shambles.
There's a lot of stuff to get them fired up, and they have all the motivation they need.
Paired with the talent, Ladies and gentlemen, the New England Patriots are gonna be borderline unstoppable this season.
Let's continue on with the article, it says.
Tom Brady looked great again.
Brady became the 1st 42 year old quarterback in NFL history with 300 yard game, and he had had that before the end of the third quarter.
Josh Gordon is back scoring touchdowns.
New England can run the ball when it has to, and now has plenty of weapons in the passing game.
They'll be even more dangerous when the when Brown plays next week.
Assuming he plays after the past a few weeks, nothing seems certain with him.
And to top it all off, the defense looked phenomenal.
The Patriots raise another banner on Sunday night, and based on a glimpse of the 2019 Patriots, they might be better than last year's championship squad, which I've been saying since the preseason.
Now, look, if we wanted to nit pick anything about the offense on Sunday night because we're Patriot fans were always looking for the negatives.
I guess you could say that Sony Michelle struggled to get rolling.
He was out performed by James White and Rex Burkhead running the ball.
Todd caress. He blocked very well.
You can't have. You have no problem with how we blocked.
His snaps were very slow, especially in shotgun.
I'm not sure if that was on purpose if they told me to slow down, or that's just how he snaps the ball, and I would have liked to have seen Maur out of the pass rush.
But besides that, the team looked phenomenal.
Let's carry on with the article.
It says the Patriots look Patriots of great on offense and defense.
The Steelers beat the page treat in the regular season last year.
Pittsburgh had Brown back then, but that doesn't entirely explain the difference in results.
The Patriots look much improved this season, and again, they're coming off a championship.
It was pretty clear early on that the Patriots were the superior team.
The defense gave the Steelers nothing.
The Patriots gave up 87 yards and four first downs before halftime.
Gordon scored in the first quarter filled door set, scored in the second quarter, and the route was on your SAT scores.
58 yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Just a pile it on.
And all the while, the defense kept frustrating.
There will be plenty.
There will be plenty said in the upcoming week about the Steelers and how they don't have enough offensive playmakers in the post Brown era.
That could end up being a normal that could end up being a problem all season.
But it looked like the Steelers were simply overwhelmed by a much better team on Sunday nights.
That might happen a lot of Patriots opponents this season.
The Dolphins, who lost 59 to 10 at home to Baltimore on Sunday are in a lot of trouble next week.
All right, guys.
So look, I am so excited to see such a complete game out of the Patriots.
This is a completely different team from 2018 and Schwab's gonna get more into that, so I won't go into too much detail.
But this isn't relying on one thing or the other.
This is a completely different team, the 2017.
How complete this team is now.
The Miami Dolphins on paper should not be a challenge whatsoever.
But it's actually a good test for the Patriots, because I want to see if a team this talent, it doesn't go down to Miami's level, you know, sometimes seems like the Patriots.
Well, not just not the Patriots in particular, but but good teams.
They'll step up in the big game, step up against the Steelers, and then they played down to a lower team, this being a divisional rival and a stadium that happened that bad things happened to for the Patriots need to go out and dominate.
They need to put their foot on the gas and not take it off.
They're tough schedule starts Week eight, and the Miami game is a need to win, and they need the win convincingly to really build that moment of going forward.
Now let's continue on with.
Schwab's article says New England could be better than last season The Patriots were obviously good last season, but perhaps a little short of great.
They needed a miraculous Eagles win over the Eagles win over the Texans late in the season to get a top two seed in the A F C.
It was a team that found its way to win in the playoffs, and they absolutely earned their Lombardi Trophy.
But based on the Open of this season, this Patriots team has a chance to be dominant from beginning to end.
A sense of dread washed over most of non Patriot fans on Saturday, when New England landed Brown, who got himself released from the Raiders and landed right on his feet.
There's no guarantee that the erotic Brown will suddenly become a good teammate just because he's in New England.
He could just be asked if he could be just as disruptive than he was in Pittsburgh in Oakland, and Bill Belichick wouldn't put up for that very long.
But we all saw on Sunday night the Patriots don't even need Brown, perhaps the best receiver of this decade.
And that's scary.
I want you guys to think about that statement.
They don't even need Brown.
And it's really ironic, because when you think back to the joint practice, you know what the With the Titans and the Patriots receivers really banged up, Tom Brady was throwing the ball to Dontrelle Inman, Braxton Barrios and Philip Door set.
Now he's going to go to Miami next week and be throwing the ball to Antonio Brown, Julien Edelman and Josh Gordon.
I mean, do you remember the time when people claim that Maurice Harris was going to be the big plane thinker on the Patriots? Second to Julian Edelman? We were all begging and pleading for Rob Gronkowski to come back in a season that we don't even need Grok anymore.
He would just like I seen on the cake.
The defense looked really, really solid again.
I want to see a little bit more pressure on the quarterback, but before it.
Besides that, they played almost flaws.
The Steelers at times put themselves in a good position and the defense just shut them down.
You know, this has the makings of being one of the best Patriots teams, if not the best of all time.
And wouldn't it be fitting that the last best team for the Patriots who won Super Bowls won back to back Super Bowls? And it's hard for me to imagine why the Patriots wouldn't be Super Bowl favorites this year.
This is actually actually the most complete team we've ever seen, and it has the potential to be the greatest of all time.
And, um, I overreacting over one game, probably.
But who cares, guys, Because if you watch that game Sunday night, it's okay to be excited about this New England Patriots team because they look awesome now.
Overreaction or not, the Patriots look pretty damn good, and the Patriots are only going to get better.
Lance Kendricks returns Nak next week from suspension, improving the run game Kyle Day Noi returns Next week, he'll help the pass rush.
Congratulations of the Van Noy family, then Watson.
We back, you know, Bye Week five and of course, next week.
Antonio Brown is the New England Patriots Now we've had a couple of days to process Antonio Brown joining the Pats.
And, you know, I had my fun this weekend, trolling all the other NFL fans and players and media like you know, The real question is, though, Is it gonna work now? While uneducated Twitter warriors say no in media experts, you know, say yes.
I mean, even Rob Parker.
Rob Parker believes that a bee will work in New England now.
He took a shot at Tom Brady to prove his point, but that was expected.
Here's what Robert Parker wrote, he said.
The Patriots are the General Hospital of the NFL.
Discarded players go there to get well, Randy Moss is on line one.
The rest of the list is even too long for the Internet.
Meanwhile, the rest of the league is have inquired tryouts Now, I wouldn't say that the other players and on the other teams require boys.
I mean the the Kansas City Chiefs of Prime examples.
Um, you know, the Cleveland Browns aren't too far behind, but the Patriots just consistently make it work.
You might ask me, does that tweet really mean that Parker thinks it will work.
Well, here's the tweet that confirms it, and it's gonna upset you guys at the same time.
He tweets more proof that Tom Brady is the Lochte luckiest of all time.
He gets the ultimate Christmas president September and all time great receiver Antonio Brown toe help him at age of 42.
A bee will help Brady not go off the cliff yet.
All right, So look, I don't think anybody solely gives Tom Brady credit for the Patriots dynasty.
It's a team game.
It's a coaching game is a big combination of why the Patriot Air so successful.
But while endorsing the Antonio Brown signing, of course Rob Parker has to take a shot that Tom Brady to stay relevant, just like he tried with RG three before his ass got fired.
But Parker is not the only one.
That thing's gonna work Adam London of Ness and wrote an article called Why Phil Simms convinced Antonio Brown will shine with the Patriots.
It's a short article will go through it now. Give my thoughts.
I'm gonna read the whole article before I give you my thoughts, but it's really interesting, it says Tom Brady having Antonio Brown at his disposal sounds.
Sounds great in theory, but success isn't determined on paper.
Brown comes to New England with quite a bit of baggage.
His departure from Pittsburgh was far from a clean break up, and his short but memorable stint with with Oakland arguably was even Messier.
But despite what history might suggest, Phil Simms is expecting Brown to follow suit with the Patriots, who reportedly signed the Starburst receiver Saturday shortly after his Raiders released the NFL.
Today's Phil Sam said this about Antonio Brown. Quote.
In the NFL, talent overrides character and A B has a lot of talent for all the New England haters and all the Antonio Brown haters.
I got some bad news for you.
It's gonna work out in New England.
It's going to be great.
He brings energy to practice every day.
He's a talented football player.
He's going to bring energy to that locker room.
It's going to work.
Foxboro has served as somewhat of a haven for players looking to reshape their image.
Randy Moss wasn't exactly highly taught upon his rival in New England, but he quickly flipped the script all whiles you know, stuffing that statue with the Patriots on once in a lifetime opportunity awaits Brown, but it's now up to him to make the most of it.
Brown initially will serve as a spectator as he begins his Patriots 10 year, but he'll be eligible to take the field in Week two when New England visits the Dolphins.
All right, so that was the article.
Now look, New England page fans.
We've been saying this for ever.
Any player with the past is welcome in New England.
Cinnabon over Bill ballot check will fix him most of the time.
If you remember the 2018 off season, the trouble between Brady and Ballot Shack now they're best buddies.
Why? Because winning solves everything.
And winning will solve Antonio Brown's attitude just like it did.
Corey Dillon, Randy Moss, Rodney Harrison Helping Josh Gordon, Chad Ochocinco Johnson.
Now he didn't excel with the Patriots, but he wasn't an attitude problem.
Liguera Blunt and so on and so on and so on because you can't walk into a dressing room that has Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, Dont'a Hightower, Devin McCourty and display those kind of ant because Bill Belichick doesn't treat anybody differently, Rob Gronkowski just talked about how even Tom Brady is not treated like a star.
So Antonio Brown's going to go in there, put its head down and shut up.
And Shannon Sharpe talked about the last season when he was, you know, arguments get Bayliss about something, he said.
Guys go and become humble when they get to New England.
How many retired problem child of the NFL have turned their career round and praised Be Allah check And, you know, for the people saying that Antonio Brown is gonna come to the Patriots locker room and blow it up, and then the dynasty. It's laughable.
Laughable because, like it or not, And believe it or not, this is a low risk signing for the Patriots.
I did it a day. It's only money.
It's off the books next season.
It was an option for next season.
They're gonna release him at any time.
The pages didn't have plans to go spend big money on somebody else.
It's only money.
So if Brown doesn't get it together, they just cut him.
It's that simple.
The captain's our locker room aren't gonna let Antonio Brown go in there and disrupt things too badly.
But I believe it's gonna work.
And when it does, how do you stop that New England offense and for the Patriot fans who aren't happy? But Antonio Brown, being there, talked me at Christmas because I promise you you're probably gonna love him at Christmas.
So look, obviously Antonio Brown coming to the Patriots.
There's an unknown factor around it, as we all know, the New England Patriots, the team that likes consistency and what Bill Bell check is doing now is he's ensuring that the cornerback situation stays consistent now.
I talked a lot in the off season and during training camp and even during preseason about Jonathan Jones, and I was talking about then how he was, probably while he I mean this office.
He was the Patriots second best cornerback, and he is quietly, he being a force in the Pittsburgh Pittsburgh and the patriotssecondary is often tasked.
You know those really tough coverage is you go back to the F C championship game.
He played that high low safety corner combination with Devin McCourty.
They just absolutely blanket a Tyree kill.
They held held to one catch 42 yards on three targets.
Hills season average was five catches, 92 yards in the homes of targeting meet times per game.
Jonathan Jones is a very quality depth piece that does a lot in the secondary, and I am thrilled that Bill Belichick extended Jones right 2 to 20 right through till 2022.
Now here's the contract terms.
It's three years, $13 million guaranteed $25,000,001 million per season.
Now Jones was playing this season on a restricted free agent tender, and he was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent going after this season.
So I believe that Jonathan Jones was too important of a piece for Bala check to let go, and they really they got him for a good price.
And I think if you would have had a good season this year, he would have priced New England out of the market.
Michael McDorman from Pats Pulpit wrote quick observations about the Jonathan Joan extension and what it means for the Patriot moon for it.
You know, we know what the Patriots why the pictures wanted to keep him.
I'm good at explaining.
The ex knows you guys are good at explaining the Axis and those of me.
I'm not great explaining contracts, and McDermott breaks down the contract and where compares to the team and the other teams and all that kind of stuff.
So here goes, says Antonio Brown was really the only big signing the Patriot reportedly made yesterday mean Saturday.
While the football world went crazy over Brown's releases subsequent signing with the Patriots, the team quietly locked up.
Ah, an up and coming defender on their roster and cornerback Jonathan Jones.
Jones is a quality depth option who does a lot of things in the secondary, which made him a potential extension candidate this season.
The Patriots obviously had similar thoughts as they gave him a three year contract extension with a base value of $21 million a max value of 25 million and 13 million guaranteed.
Jones was set to play the 2019 season on a second round tender worth just north of three million before reaching a free agency before signing the extension.
Jones is now the second highest paid cornerback in terms of yearly average, right on the Patriots.
Obviously, Jones will be averaging over seven million this season from 2022 2022 with a max value of 8.
33 million, making him the second highest paid corner and defensive back on the roster next to top cornerback stuff on Gilmore of $13 million a year.
That number also puts him ahead of Jason McCourty, who was much older than the 26 year old Jones when he signed a two year, $10 million contract in March.
McCord is pretty much a year to year player from a long term perspective, while J.
Jackson and Juan Williams are still playing on rookie contracts in terms of the overall defense on Lee, stuff on Gilmore, Dont'a, Hightower, Michael Bennett and Devin McCourty All average Maur on their current deals, and Jones.
Now it may seem crazy to pay a nickel corner as your fifth highest defensive player on the team, but again, I think that the value that Jonathan Jones brings to the Patriot is actually very underrated, and he's quietly become one of the most important pieces on the Patriots defense.
And 2018 he had a career high three interceptions.
You know he averages a sack of season three quarterback hits in 2018.
He averages 46 tackles per season over the last two years.
He's a definite upgrade over Logan Ryan.
That's why Bill Belichick was able and had no problems moving on from Logan Ryan.
And here's how now he compares to the rest of the league.
So here's where his contract rates versus other top nickel defensive backs.
Logan Ryan has a three year, $30 million contract, Chris Harris Jr has a 5,000,042 $300.
5 million contract and Justin Coleman has a four year, $36 million car.
They're all making well north of eight million on their current contracts.
This puts Jones right behind those three for some of the highest paid fifth defensive backs in the league.
Ryan and Coleman both got their contracts of free agency from the Titans and Lions.
Perspectively as a slot corner role, has become Maur increasingly important after the emergence of the slot receiver in the previous decade.
So listen, I believe that Jonathan Jones is worth a lot more than Logan Ryan, and yet he's making less salary, which makes him a bargain, you know, and when the article carries on.
It gets more into how important Jones is on the Patriots, and it also shows how the quarterback contracts are now set up for a long time.
So I'm gonna finish off the article and I'll give my final thoughts on everything.
Jones saw his workload increased in the postseason, being asked to shadow speedster Tyree Kill with Devin McCourty, aggressively helping in the A F C championship game and playing a lot of safety against the Rams and Super Bowl 53.
He's also been a very solid cornerback who can line up inside and outside while contributing on the four core units on special teams.
I expect to see Jones playing a major role in the defence as his contract is similarly high to compensate the slot nickel corners as Justin Coleman, Chris Harris and Jones won't be asked to play exclusively in the slot.
Just when his guy lines up there.
Jones also give this gives the Patriots and answer for covering Tyree kill underneath with help.
There are always gonna have to double him moving forward.
The pages were carrying five corners on the roster, now, all of them under team control until the end of the 2020 season.
All five of them figure to play a major role in the 2019 Cesena's.
Each cornerback presents their owner own matchup, strength and weaknesses, and a league where five di B's are playing 75 to 80% of the snaps.
Having all five quarterbacks play at a competent is playing.
Playing a confident is paramount for the team to continue to be able to defend some of the best passing attacks in the NFL.
Jones is a critical death option in the secondary due to his explosive speed and ability to contribute in the kicking game.
For Jones, that guaranteed money is pretty significant, with almost 70% of a guaranteed unless there's ah, hi, signing bonus involved.
I'm guessing his salary guaranteed through the 2021 season as well as his roster status.
All right, so it's great to know that there's gonna be security and consistency in the secondary moving forward on the Patriots.
I've already said this enough tonight, but you know, this is the most balanced team we've had in the balance check Brady era, and keeping that court together is really gonna be important now I expect Jones workload to increase this more this season even more.
Um, but what I love about Jonathan Jones is his versatility.
Blind up, all versatility, toe lamp all over the backfield, and it makes them not much more valuable leads to my group, especially with an older safety group.
You know, it's good to know that Jones can drop back in a pinch now, when we're looking at the 2120 21 cornerbacks after everybody's contract expires.
Bill, Bill cheque.
Me looking at a time.
Look at the time.
I think that's the time to move on from a stuff on Gilmore who's got an expensive contract.
And you could see a combination of Jaycee Jackson, Jawan Williams and Jonathan Jones is the three corners on the team, with Jonathan Jones being the oldest cornerback, a 28 years old.
Or they keep stuff on Gilmore and you gotta Jackson Jones combination with Gilmore and you could move Deron Williams to safety if you need to.
Ultimately, having a young core gives Bill Belichick a lot of options of what he could do.
And look, guys, I'm not ready for the New England Patriots run to end any time soon and locking up Jones is just one step to keeping this dynasty rolling.
