Okay, so let's talk about Anthony Davis and three point shooting.
Absolutely critical for the Lakers.
Last summer, the Lakers kind of ignored three point shooting.
They didn't find the shooters that they really needed.
They looked for for playmakers.
Instead of talking guys like Lance Stephenson rage on Rondo.
They saw as a score players who aren't known as shooters and typically LeBron James led teams have been built around shooters.
The Lakers just didn't go for those guys.
They zigged where everybody had zagged in the past.
And so now this summer, they've realized the error of their ways, and they've done everything they can to stop their team with shooters.
We're talking about guys like Danny Green, Queen Cook, Troy Daniels.
Even Jared Dudley can knock in threes at a fairly high level.
Well, Anthony Davis is working hard to make sure that he is one of those guys as well, and he can provide the floors facing that the Lakers so badly need.
In a Twitter question answer session, he said This summer, I improved the most on my three ball.
I wanted to be able to stretch the floor as a big game is definitely going that way Now.
I for sure want to get that percentage in the high thirties by me doing that.
I'll be able to help the Lakers as much as possible and hopefully win a championship.
So there's actually video footage out there of Anthony Davis training him hitting a couple of step back threes off the dribble.
Here's the thing Anthony Davis can already shoot threes.
Actually attempted over two per game, 2.
6 per game last season, but only hit 33% of his threes, Which that's not that great.
That's not enough to make defense is really step out and cover you.
33% is about what Lonzo Ball shot last.
He's actually a little bit better than what Kyle Kuzma shot last season.
Another guy who has been working on his three point shooting, Kuzma shot just 30% from three, So he's another guy that needs to improve his three point shooting.
But as of right now, Anthony Davis can knock in threes.
He's just not quite doing it at a high enough clip.
To make defense is respect him out there.
If you can get up to say 37 38% something like that that changes the entire game, then defense's have got to get out on him.
Gonna have to be stretched a little bit, and that's going to create more space on the inside.
For the Lakers, like LeBron James, guys like Javale McGee, Dwight Howard, other players to get in and really do some damage So Anthony Davis being able to get his three point percentage up is huge.
And in fact, if you dig into his advanced stats, my friend Joey Ramirez of lakers dot com actually noted this as well.
There's a There's some evidence that he's already hitting threes in a fairly high level, just not off the dribble in catching shoot situations.
He's actually hitting 37% of his threes.
And guess what? He's gonna get a ton of this year, catch and shoot opportunities, because teams were gonna be paying more attention to LeBron James.
Anthony Davis has never played with a player who attracts attention the way LeBron James does, so he should get plenty of open looks from behind the arc.
Now, why is this so particularly key for the Lakers? The Anthony Davis is three point shooting improves.
While a lot of it has to do with the Marcus Cousins DeMarcus cousins we know.
Unfortunately out for the season, most likely with an A c L tear, the Lakers have replaced him with Dwight Howard.
Big difference, though DeMarcus cousins can step out behind the three point line, he is confident out there can knock in threes and teams will have to at least respect them behind the arc.
Dwight Howard, Not so much teams.
We're going to be just fine, allowing Dwight to cast away from three.
So he's not gonna set up out there.
He's not gonna create the kind of spacing that the Lakers will need.
He's gonna display Maurine the dunker position like we've seen JaVale McGee kind of hiding out along the baseline waiting.
Get drop off passes from guys like a D and LeBron.
So without that, pulling the big out away from the basket, the Lakers were gonna make sure that whoever plays power forward is going to need to space the floor and Kyle Kuzma is going to get some minutes there.
So he's gonna need to improve his three point shooting.
And then Anthony Davis has said many, many times now that he prefers to play power forward and not center.
One of the main reasons why the Lakers got Dwight Howard was because they wanted Anthony Davis to be able to play the position that he prefers to play and hopefully keep him healthy.
We have him avoid banging with the big physical fives down in the paint.
So if you're gonna play a guy like Dwight Howard, you're gonna play a guy like Trail McGee and you're gonna slide Anthony Davis over to that four spot he needs to be able to knock in three pointers.
Otherwise, things we're going to get really congested really fast.
If the big that's guarding a D can suck into the paint and kind of ignore him behind the art.
So this is gonna be huge for the Lakers if Anthony Davis can get his three point shooting.
And I'm not talking about off the dribble, I'm not expecting that out of him, even though we've seen it happening in in training and things like that.
If he can get his three point percentage in catching shoot situations, which again, I said, he's gonna see a lot of if he could get get that up even a little bit more.
Say 38 39% there we even say, 40% catching shoot to hit those corner threes.
It's going to make a world of difference for the Lakers offense.
You're going to see a ton more space inside.
More room for JaVale McGee lobs more room for Dwight Howard lobs more room for for LeBron James attacking the basket off the dribble.
More spacing for a guy like Danny Green to set up behind the arc and, perhaps even more importantly, more room for Anthony Davis himself.
Because when guys close out hard on him, Anthony Davis is pretty good at putting the ball on the floor and then attacking the basket.
So you're gonna be able to see him in those scenarios as well, Right, guys, can Anthony Davis do it? Can he improve his three point shooting? Because if he can, he could take a huge step forward this season and be a massive, massive threat in the M V P race.
That's how good this guy is.
We're talking about a potential M V P candidate radio on your Los Angeles Lakers.
Exciting times, that's for sure.
Let me know what you think.
Is this the right thing for 80 to be focusing on his three point shooting? Or is there another facet of his game that you'd rather see him working on fire off your take? Let me know in the comments down below what your thoughts are and of course, guys, make sure you follow us on.
