00:02:14
Hello, everyone.
00:02:15
And welcome back to another live episode of full press coverage live.
00:02:18
We are talking post game.
00:02:20
We're talking bears Packers, and I am once again joined by my man Mr Kyle.
00:02:24
Sandra, Full press coverage.
00:02:26
Packers managing editor Kyle, Congratulations on the win.
00:02:29
It wasn't exactly how we drew it up, but, uh, no one's a win, right? Oh, yeah, Yeah, it feels pretty good to be on the winning side.
00:02:37
Even though I you admitting Lee, You know, the Bears shot themselves in the foot a lot.
00:02:42
Like, you know, Packers fan should consider themselves lucky.
00:02:45
That could have been just as easily gone the other way.
00:02:48
So is, you know, by no means is this you know, you know, should we just hold this over, say no? Yeah, we were clear, The better team.
00:02:56
I mean, football's over game to come down to some balances in certain plays.
00:02:59
And fortunately, the packers executed when they needed d'oh.
00:03:03
Uh, the bears did, to a certain extent, But not you.
00:03:07
No, no, he didn't capitalize on on certain opportunities because they didn't get a good feel positional game.
00:03:15
And I guess I could get that detail soon Yeah, and and And look, that's I mean, I think you kind of summed it up pretty well.
00:03:21
I mean, I I think both teams obviously there were bright spots for both, but it's certainly not.
00:03:28
You know, if you're the Packers, you know you're going home with win.
00:03:30
But you know, you have things you need to work on and, you know, on the flip side from the bears perspective, um, you know, you better hope this is just ah, no bump in the road for Mitch Travis Key because it certainly looked for the most part, like he wasn't, you know, making that leap that he made from your 12 year, too.
00:03:50
You know, in this first game again, one game in this season, this could be come a afterthought.
00:03:55
But by the time of the season end, So, um, but of course, we only have one game to base all of our opinions on, So that's what we're gonna do here.
00:04:04
So there's a couple things.
00:04:05
Obviously, we talked about it right before we got on air.
00:04:09
Both these offenses struggled.
00:04:11
Aaron Rodgers had that nice Dr you put together.
00:04:14
You know, we hit the big play down the field for a 46 47 yards.
00:04:19
Something like that.
00:04:20
It's set up the lone touchdown to Jimmy Graham.
00:04:23
I might add way did talk about earlier, and, uh, you know, I'm kind of kicking myself.
00:04:28
I didn't start him and fantasy because they would have been a nice start, but, hey, whatever.
00:04:33
Antonio Brown will get those points for me this weekend, but yes, Oh, you know, obviously, that was a nice drive, but I think the overall senses, especially from the Packers offense, that it's still a work in progress.
00:04:47
And I don't know, Do you put a lot of stock in the fact that, um, obviously Aaron Rodgers didn't play in the preseason? Do you put a lot on that, or is that just rode as they get used to each other Mad floor and obviously Aaron Rodgers.
00:05:02
Yeah, they kind of mentioned a few times during the broadcast.
00:05:06
Um, part of me thinks that the biggest factor is the Bears defense.
00:05:09
They were going timing off at all times and at any time.
00:05:14
Actually, the Mac Mac was a huge factor, but they were able to nullify him at times, you know, when they had Ah, they're able to position the often of lines that either blogger Bachtiar E.
00:05:26
Was covering matter blocking Mac.
00:05:28
He usually worked out pretty well.
00:05:30
Um, but it was the times when you had someone like Billy Turner having a block Mac one on one and then run plays.
00:05:37
They had a couple times where the tight end would end up blocking Mac, and that obviously didn't work at all.
00:05:41
I think that's the biggest factors opposed to the lack of in game reps because I mean, can Rogers is getting lots of first team raps with a lot of his receivers, and that includes Marquez Val, this scant ling who made some good plays but also showed a bit of a lack of timing with Roger's.
00:05:58
At times there, I think back and it's fresh because it's close to the end of the game.
00:06:02
But on the Packers final offensive drive, when after the interception, the you know they're trying to milk the clock for as much they can.
00:06:09
They get a good run on first down, take some time off for the Bears to use a time out and then second down instead of running it again.
00:06:16
They try to throw a quick out, Uh, Scantlin spinach Just stand where he is.
00:06:21
I guess it was just gonna fake block and then turn around to catch it.
00:06:24
But I'll tell you when to turn around the ball was already has his feet.
00:06:28
Like it seemed like it just the Rogers through to quicker valve that Scantlin reacted too slowly.
00:06:32
So those those things were concerned because those are the types of plays the you know, Even if you didn't do in preseason, you would have had lost time in training camp to do. Yeah, exactly.
00:06:41
I mean, those are the raps again.
00:06:42
You get a lot of those reps, mostly in training camp practices and stuff like that.
00:06:46
You know, obviously, nowadays special in the preseason, where, you know, a lot of these teams aren't playing their starters as much.
00:06:52
I mean, Los Angeles.
00:06:54
I don't even think they feel that any teams going out of preseason and they're just like, you know what? Screw it.
00:06:58
We're just not even gonna try, so, you know, again, I You know, you don't want to put everything on one week, because again, this is just one week and it's the first week and there is some rust factor to it.
00:07:10
But it's definitely something thinking, long term, like OK, these guys need to get on the page a little bit better because, yeah, the Bears have a good defense.
00:07:19
But, um, I, you know, I think if they had of a better quarterback or better quarterback, play from the get go.
00:07:28
I think, you know, perhaps the outcome's a bit different.
00:07:31
And, you know, obviously the Packers defense played well and we talked before we got on the air.
00:07:35
There was some poetic justice there at the end.
00:07:38
You know, Adri name was coming up with, you know, what I thought was a game clinching.
00:07:42
Obviously, they were drive each for, you know, both teams, but that essentially sealed the game because the bears were driving and, you know, obviously had a chance to tie it up.
00:07:51
Um, what did you think about the Packers offense specifically? Because obviously they're the ones that showed up and only gave up three points against Ah, you know, a team that most assume has one of the best defense is in the league.
00:08:05
Sorry. That's all right.
00:08:06
The question is You know what I was saying? Like, you know, a lot of people obviously expected the bears defense to be really good.
00:08:12
Yeah, but but the packers, I just wanted your your thoughts on their defense in general.
00:08:17
How you thought they played obviously against a limited quarterback or offense, but they still did some really nice things.
00:08:24
Uh, yeah.
00:08:25
So I think that first and foremost it all starts the pass rush.
00:08:28
Uh, and then we talked with us just before the broadcast started.
00:08:32
But you love it when a team makes all these big free agent acquisitions and they actually work out.
00:08:36
But to their biggest, we're both of the line backers that got all the playing time.
00:08:41
Essentially a Preston Smith from Washington inside, Darius Smith from the Ravens.
00:08:46
And those guys came in and I mean, there were 26.
00:08:49
They're both in their prime, and they really showed it today.
00:08:51
Especially Za'darius Smith.
00:08:53
He was constantly wreaking havoc.
00:08:54
And, um, I remember there was one play where he almost got Travis key and he rolled out, and that was that was the play at being a offensive pass.
00:09:04
Interference was a big looked like a big cash for Gabriel.
00:09:06
But like he so even that night, Za'darius Smith was constantly in position to make plays, even if Tracy was able to escape.
00:09:13
Ah, but he did manage to get some sacks.
00:09:16
Uh, any and even so, just getting too risky is face and force.
00:09:20
Cem, Cem Rush throws.
00:09:22
I think he hit him once toe a pass that really under sailed and just fell incomplete and out of harm's way.
00:09:28
So, uh, Za'darius Smith especially deserves massive credit.
00:09:32
Um, one player who, since the release of Mike Daniels, has been expected to kind of step up and be the the guy on that defensive line is Kenny Clarke.
00:09:41
Ah, there were times where he was not winning one on one, and that that's something that happened in the preseason, too, and it kind of worried me a little.
00:09:48
I wrote about a bit in some of the articles, uh, but there was a couple of keep plays where Clark came in and really stepped up right when he needed them.
00:09:56
Two were right when they needed him to Ah, one was on the third down play was ah, Facebook.
00:10:02
Halfway through the second quarter.
00:10:04
Um they decided to run.
00:10:07
I think it was Cordell Patterson in the backfield.
00:10:09
And I had him lined up in the tailback position and Adam back far as they can get a head of steam.
00:10:14
And e guess it was It took too long.
00:10:16
Developed as Kenny Clarke.
00:10:18
Just one shot right through line.
00:10:19
Used to swim, move.
00:10:20
And the guy barely got a hand on him.
00:10:21
And And that nullified because it was the 3rd 1 and ended up losing, like, two yards there.
00:10:26
That was Ah, drive.
00:10:28
It was second big second quarter, right? Yeah, I think, honestly, I think that was the drive right after the touchdown.
00:10:35
Okay.
00:10:36
Yeah, it was so So the packers score the touchdown.
00:10:38
And, you know, the Bears were looking like maybe they get something going on the on the drive.
00:10:43
You know, I think Robinson had a had a big catch, um, to kind of kick start the drive and then, you know, suddenly go.
00:10:51
You know, they stopped in there on the third down and really kind of it could have turned the tides in terms of momentum.
00:10:56
The Packers having just scored and I mean, frankly after, except after a point.
00:11:00
The Bears didn't score again.
00:11:02
They had the field goal in the first quarter and then got shut out for 3/4.
00:11:07
Yeah, and and then, of course, the one Dr that they put anything together and ends up on end zone interception by much. Drew Pinsky.
00:11:14
So, you know, again, we talked about, you know, before this, uh, game, you know, obviously the bears being a a popular pick.
00:11:22
And we both, you know, obviously have high hopes for them.
00:11:25
Um, it was not the coming look again.
00:11:28
I've said it already three or four times this tonight.
00:11:32
It's one game.
00:11:33
So, you know, if the trip is, he could go out and have the next six weeks where he's just playing lights out and no one will remember this game.
00:11:40
They'll just chalk it up as a It was week one things when When you have his high of expectations as they dio Aah! When you come out and you look like you've regressed, for the most part and you did mention a few plays like that, that throw that was ultimately the offensive pass interference that was That was a great throw on those that highlights what he can.
00:12:02
D'oh! Flight.
00:12:04
It just wasn't happening consistently.
00:12:06
And there were the Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady year. Drew Brees.
00:12:52
But, you know, this is a team that is built to win a Super Bowl, giving their talent, especially on defense.
00:12:59
Now they just need to put it together or not.
00:13:00
And so if I was a Bears fan, I'd be a little bit worried.
00:13:03
But again, you know, you got to see how it plays out over the season.
00:13:06
But Strabinsky did struggle, and, uh, I'm kind of regretting, um, meet already picking them to go to the NFC championship game.
00:13:14
But, hey, you know my picture.
00:13:16
Never that great.
00:13:17
Anyway, So, uh, yeah, um, with Travis Key, I think the word that comes in is inconsistent, but I mean, you talk about, he made some great clothes.
00:13:26
There's another Pasto. Alan Robinson.
00:13:28
I mean, a really nice toss toe thio Taylor Gabriel, who got a bit of separation on Jay Alexander.
00:13:35
But rare time that that is allowed to happen.
00:13:37
Um, so there were moments where he did seem great, but yeah, it's ah, the mental processing wasn't always there.
00:13:44
Um, meeting the packers just you know, the way the past brushwork, he didn't have a lot of time to the process. A lot of things.
00:13:51
And, uh so the final interception, Uh, I guess the only interception.
00:13:56
But, you know, in the final on that final driver in the red zone, he kind of stared down Robinson and a mole saw it, and he kind of read it the whole way.
00:14:04
And and, uh, you know which room on William's having good underneath coverage gave a most the freedom to kind of go over top.
00:14:12
And there were a couple passes that risky kind of over sailed at times.
00:14:16
And that was another one.
00:14:17
Barely not, That was that was a good throw.
00:14:19
But it was the worst decision, I think, just because of the the coverage.
00:14:22
I mean, Williams's with Robinson the whole way, and it seemed like that was really forced Well, at a at a key moment where they could have, you know, they could have won the game there if they plan.
00:14:36
If they played out differently, you had showed more patients so well, I was going to say I'm glad you said, uh, he stared down the receiver because I saw him doing that a lot.
00:14:44
And it seems like again when you when it happens to be a guy that you played with, who you practice with a lot, they're gonna pick up on those subtle little tendencies that you have.
00:14:53
And you know, I think especially when when situations for these guys like quarterbacks like that get, you know, the hottest.
00:14:59
Or, you know, you're trying to come back or you're it's an intense game.
00:15:03
Those are when those mistakes, they're gonna come out, you're going to start, you know, keying in a one guy.
00:15:08
And, you know, good defensive players are gonna pick up on that.
00:15:10
They're going to see that, you know, they can see your eyes, they can see you know what you're thinking.
00:15:15
And that's exactly what happened.
00:15:16
And I like how you phrased it where it was.
00:15:19
You know, it wasn't a terrible throw per se, but it was a bad decision because it just you know, that's a type of throw that Mitch Robiskie shouldn't be making right now.
00:15:29
It just to me, I like you, said if you were a little bit more patient, you could have played that out a lot differently, but, you know, hey, again, these these were things that hopefully, you know, if you're embarrassed, man, you hope, you know, he learns from and they developed from, So you know, of course.
00:15:45
You know now Packers air.
00:15:46
Wanna know bears their own one looking like your division pick is Ah, looking pretty good right now.
00:15:51
Hunters and packers in the lead.
00:15:53
But those bears, you know, you don't know, but moving ahead.
00:15:57
The Packers have a pretty I don't want to call it.
00:15:59
It is not an easy schedule, but they spend a lot of time at home.
00:16:03
And they highlighted this during the NBC broadcast.
00:16:05
And, uh, which makes to me this makes this win on the road in Chicago huge in the long run.
00:16:12
Because now the Packers are going home.
00:16:14
They're going to play a lot of their games.
00:16:16
And then over the next six weeks at home, I believe 5 to 6, I think it was on the graphic.
00:16:20
Um, is this something like again? How I don't want to say how big, because so high hyperbolic, You know, it's how big was this win? But I mean, yeah, sure.
00:16:33
How big was this winter road early in the season, especially new coaching staff against a rival.
00:16:39
You know all the spotlights on it, you know? How big is this for the Packers and Rogers and the floor and the whole gang? The the most obvious way that I think it's significant is you said Dr Alot more in that division, rival, right? Like division games always count Double basically right.
00:16:56
So you division, division road win those air.
00:17:00
Those were always so key.
00:17:01
And, like you said, new coaching staff talked about in the pregame.
00:17:04
How would they come out? The floor was calling plays, so he managed the game pretty well.
00:17:09
I know.
00:17:10
He kind of made ah say ballsy call.
00:17:12
Ah, challenging on that.
00:17:15
What was another great play by travesty? That was one of his better throws her And, uh, you know, I think I actually think that was actually pretty savvy.
00:17:24
Move right, because it was the challenge, the offensive pass interference.
00:17:28
They didn't, you know, they called it a catch and everything.
00:17:29
And he said, you know, challenging for the four offensive pass interference, which is the new rule change this year.
00:17:36
One of the new rules.
00:17:38
And I think he was just, you know, it's the first game of the season for Yeah, they've had some experience with in the preseason.
00:17:43
But first day of the regular season, let's see which way they go.
00:17:46
And it was the fourth quarter.
00:17:48
At that point, you still both your challenges.
00:17:49
So he's like, You know what? Let's let's try this.
00:17:51
Let's challenge, Let's see what happens.
00:17:54
Let's, you know, be one of the guys to kind of set the president's.
00:17:57
Let's see if if we make them make a tough decision and ultimately they didn't.
00:18:00
But and I think now you see that you learn from it.
00:18:02
Okay, Now they've kind of set one thing.
00:18:04
We kind of know this is this isn't enough for offensive pass interference.
00:18:08
I think I learned from that.
00:18:09
So that was pretty smart at that point.
00:18:11
I think kind of showed a lot of game awareness.
00:18:13
Um, because looking at it, I didn't think it was gonna get overturned.
00:18:17
But I also thought it's probably worth it to try it because it was a big play.
00:18:22
Have turned things around on then. Also good.
00:18:25
I later to challenge on, uh but they want a challenge for stick that catch, will. They ruled it a catch.
00:18:31
Yeah.
00:18:32
Hey, was they didn't find out about that? Was that was smart.
00:18:35
I mean, I was really super obvious call so good.
00:18:37
Good on him to use it there.
00:18:39
Um, so, yeah, I think that yeah, in terms of significance, the way it showed that LaFleur can coach, he can.
00:18:45
He can be a head coach for a winning team That, like you said, doesn't go to plan.
00:18:49
I mean, the offense ah, didn't always move the ball.
00:18:53
Really well.
00:18:54
In fact, special teams is how the packers move with the ball.
00:18:57
Um, I think if if one asked the game of A with a ah, really excelled was special teams.
00:19:03
I mean ah on whenever they were kicking away, rarely did did the Bears players get to return.
00:19:10
There were so many fair catches, they constantly had to three guys down.
00:19:13
And when the Packers were receiving the ball, they were able to get some space. Not always.
00:19:19
They had to make a couple fair catches, but they put it on.
00:19:22
Yeah, Davis was able to get some space to make some returns, so certainly shows that the Gunners air doing their job and getting down to where they need to get on and J.
00:19:31
K.
00:19:32
Scott just great leg and then saved the best for last right at the end.
00:19:35
That 63 yard punt right when that there was something after the offense again.
00:19:41
Maybe a question will call on second down there when you're trying to kill the clock.
00:19:44
And they didn't really managed to kill much time and didn't move the ball.
00:19:47
So really needed a big punch Sheffield position back and make it tough for the Bears toe.
00:19:53
Come out and win.
00:19:54
I was going to say I I'm sure a lot of Packers fans got Dom Capers flashbacks when ah, you ran Ah, third down third and 10 draw.
00:20:03
That didn't really gained much yardage, I think, uh, which room I can't remember.
00:20:09
I think it might have been in the third quarter, But, you know, um, maybe it wasn't a drop me, was it? Was it? Ah, is it a toss? I don't know.
00:20:16
Either way.
00:20:17
It was 1/3 down run play, and, um, I I laugh because, you know, some people I follow on Twitter that a Packers fans were just like, you know, that was kind of a big critic.
00:20:26
You know, both of these teams coming with different types of question marks, but certainly there some that still remain.
00:20:33
Um, yeah.
00:20:34
I mean, honestly, I I'm just happy that football back just being able to get on here and actually discuss actual game and actual um hey, you know, just just play, you know, it's it's good.
00:20:46
And obviously on Sunday, we're gonna have a whole lot more.
00:20:48
So I guess Let's wrap this up here.
00:20:52
Ah, we talked about it earlier before, Before the game this Sunday.
00:20:57
You're gonna be any surprise and actives kind of keeping people aware of that.
00:21:01
Uh, you know, my co host for my full press fancy podcast.
00:21:05
Alessandro's gonna join me.
00:21:06
He and I are probably just gonna start with talking about some of the decisions we're making kind of showing our process right, people.
00:21:12
This is why I would take this guy over this and these were things I'm considering the factors you you put into it and ah, SportsCastr has ah interactive comments section.
00:21:20
And so if people are watching listening, they can certainly comment or on Twitter.
00:21:25
Ah, all our handles at Yama underscore Ks is mine.
00:21:30
But really you could find any of the fan the full press fantasy stuff.
00:21:34
