Hello and good evening, everybody.
And welcome to a full press coverage live episode with actual football to talk about.
It is tthe east art of the 2019 NFL season.
And you know what? I'm excited, Kyle.
Um, how you doing tonight? What do you Ah, I'm sure you're as excited as I am to get this game going.
Oh, yeah, maybe even more.
So I mean, I even obviously I am a packers fans.
See? So, uh, yeah.
No, I'm pretty excited.
Thio t just Ah, A lot of things, but in general, a new look How Matt look for handles.
Things is a first time head coach.
T see how he handles the endgame decisions, decisions.
Also gonna be curious to see who's actually calling plays on offense for the Packers.
If it is the floor or he's gotta hand it off to Nathaniel Hackett off anything.
I mean, hack it back.
So I think has more playcalling experience.
I wouldn't be upset if floor just concentrated more on being a head coach.
The Patriots doesn't call plays, just overseeing things.
Yeah, he's got his hand in everywhere on every play, and his presence has always felt so in general.
That's gonna be a huge to see how the coaching staff handles their first was as deaf as a staff on then.
I mean, it's gonna great.
See Aaron Rodgers hopefully not hobbled.
Unlike all of last year.
Yeah, which was again against the Bears.
So that's because I guess that's the one Worry is that one word.
There's one team that's likely the injury, and it's gonna be this team.
So you think about the defensive firepower, especially on that defensive line with you.
Start with Khalil Mack.
It's It's something you want to worry about, you know? Think about in terms of Aaron Rodgers.
And I've always said that he has to focus, especially at this point.
Is in his career.
He has to focus more on Ah, I think, claim from inside the pocket and being a little bit smarter and trying to avoid, you know, Yeah, he could make these spectacular plays outside of the pocket.
But, you know, again, he's just one bad fall away from missing half the season again, and at some point at age 34 35 it's going to start to catch up to you.
But, you know, look, I'm right there with you.
I I want to see how this offense goes, and you know, anyone out there that follows me on Twitter probably thinks that I hate Aaron Rodgers and e.
I don't want to see him succeed in that.
That's just that's just false.
I just I hate some of the crazy people out there, and I actually in fact enjoy Aaron Rodgers playing.
So when he's healthy and he's out there signed me up because that means that it's gonna be an entertaining game and, you know, look it, This is a team that the Packers, you know, when Aaron Rodgers is healthy, you assume that they're gonna be contenders to go deep into the playoffs.
And, uh, you know, this is the symmetry with it.
And since you're a Packers fan, you probably speak on this a little bit.
But when Brett Farve, uh, was at Aaron Rodgers age, he welcomed and Mike McCarthy as the new head coach.
So there's there certain similarities with that.
And now you look at Aaron Rodgers, who look, Mike McCarthy, for better or worse, was a pretty good coach, but he shouldered a lot of the blame for the struggles this team has had over the last couple of years.
Now, that's gonna, in my opinion, fall squarely on Aaron Rodgers.
And, you know, it's gonna be interesting to see how it plays out, whether they do well or, uh, you know, if they struggle out of the gate.
So, um, I guess, yeah.
How do you see this playing out? Do you think it's gonna be a similar situation? Obviously, Rogers doesn't have Aaron Rodgers waiting in the wings.
You know, like Brett Farve.
Um, how do you think this relationship, you know, just off the cuffs? Custom is gonna work between these two.
I mean, he almost had Roger is waiting in the wings with Sean Kaiser.
He's no longer on the team.
And I don't think Tim Boyle is gonna come in and the next Aaron Rodgers.
But truth be told, I hopefully we won't find out this year.
Um, but to your point, I actually did like Mike McCarthy as I had actually got the team ready to play every week.
It seemed like he understood howto motive players out of organized practices throughout the week to get the best results.
That problem was that the offense just became stale in terms of its play calling and not even play calling play designed.
And I think play designed the fatal flaw from a car.
He was that he had too many like minded people on his offense of staff.
To people who thought exactly like Camel, almost like yes men like Think about last year, Joe Joe Feldman was.
His hot list is like right hand man on offense.
That's not really someone you want, really someone.
So what? I'm hoping to see what the floor is.
It's not so much new ways as you see it time using creative ways to get your players open right away to do exactly what your point is.
Not having Rodrick give him quick, open throws right off the bat and use his his intelligence to kind of find those open matchups right away.
I think that's what the Floors offense is gonna attempt to do floors.
I know the whole thing.
Seems like throughout the offseason is the amount of audibles allowing the way you have to come out and say it straight like he could do whatever he wants.
But I think the point is that LaFleur is gonna make it so that he doesn't have to audible or he's trying to give him out.
Thes trying these open looks somewhere and use a lot of motions.
Snap so I could see things like, you know, Marcus Valdas Scanlon's pretty fast.
So one thing I would look for in this game is maybe a few, uh, maybe just sweeps early with him and then to draw the defense out and then eventually fake a jet ski tow, open something else off on the reverse open something just things that, you know a lot of other coaches do.
It just seems like our unwillingness to doing so again.
That's kind of what I'm hoping for with floors offenses, just creative ways to get guys.
Just you wait and you made a great point there.
And it's It's a lot of these good coaches air going to AA game plan to the strength of their quarterback.
And if LaFleur confined what really works for Aaron Rodgers and what you know, what he feels is the best, you know, way to keep him healthy and keep him from getting knocked around as much as he has.
I mean, that's gonna be the best for everyone, because again, it's gonna give Rogers the ability to make easier decisions and may have those decisions just, you know, present themselves to him.
So he doesn't feel like he has to run.
And he has to make the big play because I think, you know, in a way it's his flaw that he feels sometimes he has to do that.
But you know, in other ways, the team has kind of put him in a position where it's almost necessary sometimes.
And, you know, again at age 35 you know, if he breaks his collarbone are Spain's and M C L or does something like that, it's It's getting harder and harder, especially with all the games that he's missed.
Um, over the last few years and again, you know, this is this is a tough division with with a lot of really tough defensive lines.
I mean, obviously you're looking at the bears tonight, but look at the lions.
I mean, they too are pretty much built Thio to stop that type of, you know, that type of quarterback, that athletic quarterback.
You want to keep Aaron Rodgers in the pocket and make him be, too, from that, which he's really good at.
But again, you know you can take advantage of that and we'll see.
And you know, who knows? Maybe this is the, You know, the change that's gonna get Aaron Rodgers and the Packers over the hump over the next couple years is, you know, maybe a little bit of adapting and a little bit of changing as he gets into the ladder.
Um, the last few years of his career, because again, 35 years old, you know, not everyone's gonna play till 40.
I'm not going to say you can't.
But, you know, we can't just assume these guys they're gonna go that far.
I mean, you never know when a quarterback might retire a 29 so exactly.
I mean, look cold, like colds.
Fans are figuring that out right now, you know? Look, you had a nine year old franchise quarterback, you know, again had all the skill and talent in the world.
And now you know, he's He's Yeah, they got out with 25 26 year old franchise quarter interact with the next two years with all things considered the culture in a fairly decent position.
I mean, with the team that they have.
And look, Jacoby percents a pretty, pretty good quarterback, and I think he's going to do well.
Um, you know, with this group of ah teammates around him as opposed to 2017.
But but that's that's for a Sunday show later tonight.
It is about to pay off the backers and the Bears.
Um, so you know, obviously we're focusing a lot on the Packers because, of course, you are the full press coverage Packers managing editor as well as the full press coverage fantasy football managing editor.
So I chose to go.
Ah, when you see this screen, I chose to go with the full press Packers logo.
Just this time around, we'll mix it up, but he does only a couple of belts here, couple hats.
But so looking at the Bears, and you know, this is a team that I picked, we released our staff picks today, so if you want to go to the site for press coverage dot com, you can see the see all of our picks for divisions, the conference championship games and eventual Super Bowl winners.
Well, I pick the Bears to get to the conference championship game in the NFC.
This is a team that's that's been really hyped up in the off season there, really hyped up last year, and they seem to be that team that's making those progressions.
How do you see this team this season? And you think that they're gonna live up to the hype? You know, maybe not the actual height they're getting, because again, type can be, you know, exaggerated.
But do you think they're gonna live up to, uh, lofty expectations that are being set for this team? I'll be honest in my picks, I think the Packers to win the division but pick the Bears to actually win the Super Bowl over the chief's this year.
And part of me thinks that thinks this defense.
You talked about it.
It's not just clear back.
I mean, a keen hicks on the other side of the line and you two guys like us in the past.
It's really tough for offensive lines to contain that, but overall in overall, every level the defense has playmakers.
You look at linebacker.
Got a guy like game today, for instance, was back there and the rookie last year with local on Smith, who came in and came in and without really any training the amphibian sign.
Think he signed too much when they got Cleo? Mac suddenly added both those pieces and immediate impact right away.
So only imagine what Smith Skin looks like after a full actually going to training camp in and after having just a full NFL stolen.
You have to be in the for that whole off season.
Corner in a Born and what I thought was one of the best.
One of the best signings in terms of ah, one year contract for value is ha ha Clinton Dix.
They signed him for just under two million, which is crazy.
It may be indicative of why the Packers Packers got rid of him.
Got rid of Major.
They didn't think that.
You think? Yeah, so anyway, so they've got pieces all throughout the defense, but really, it's this offense.
I think it's gonna take a step up.
Now it's gonna be your too undermanned and, um, to say Hand.
It was the third round they traded up.
Traded out there, which was there first to get a running back running back.
Looks like he looks like he fits Maggie System and David Montgomery.
I kind of expected anything.
If he's given all the carries, expect him to have quite a big day.
I know my concern for the Packers kind of wrote about this throughout the offseason.
Is has been a linebacker linebacker? Um, really, really like Martinez.
He's using no play caller on defense, great tackle machine.
But next to him is the big question mark in Oran Burkes tourist packed muscle.
It was like the very first defensive Siri's and Week one of the preseason.
He's an active tonight.
Don't think it'll be too much longer.
So that's that's good news.
But then suddenly you've got 1/7 round rookie tie summer and then b J.
So you just traded for a few days ago? Those those those the two players that are gonna be playing inside linebacker next.
So So you know, if the offensive like unclear Space and Montgomery, your Mike Davis or Kona whoever's running to get to the second level.
No, there's a bit of unproven this with this lined AK record back Well in.
And that's And that's a great point, too, because you have to.
You have to figure to that, you know, especially with the way offenses air going now there's a lot of action in the middle of the field.
A lot of you know, your linebackers have to be somewhat athletic to be able to keep up with, you know, with some of the playmakers.
And, you know, one of the guys that I know I know pretty well from obviously following the Patriots that the Bears ad was Cordero Patterson, who you know, he's not the you know.
He's not gonna make all the plays, you know, receiving lies.
But you know, he has the ability to really set the tone on special teams.
And when he gets going, he can be really fast.
And you know, if anyone knows anything about the Bears, they have a history with having a very dynamic kick returner and special teams guy.
And I'm not saying that you know he's Devin Hester, because, look, Devin Hester is arguably the greatest plant slash kick returner in NFL history.
But it still creates those opportunities because, you know, you're talking about a guy in mixed Robiskie who has progressed very well over the 1st 2 years.
And I think you know, they're still questions about what his ceiling actually is.
Um, I think we're gonna find out a lot this year because the team's their thesis.
Tums been in place.
Like you said, It's the second year with Matt Nagy as head coach.
Um, you know, they were they were this close to moving on to the divisional round.
You know, if a miss field goal, I mean, maybe, who knows? Maybe that's gonna come into play once again this year because, hey, that's just how sports work intends to.
You have that that poetic nature to it.
Um, so, you know, this is the team that really has all the potential in the world.
It's Are they gonna let it get in their way? Is the question because in years past, the Packers were We're the hunted, you know, I think coming into this year, I think the Packers, I think people wouldn't be surprised like you said if they won the division, but I think they're still there, kind of in a wait and see mode because they think the bear and I believe this.
I think the Bears are the better team right now, but that could change in a few weeks when all of a sudden we're like, Okay, you know, this new offensive system is really rolling in it.
You know, the Packers offense gets going, you know, that could really, you know, push the push the needle, too towards them, you know, against Ah Bears team.
That again is has all the potential and high ceiling in the world.
But there's still question, Mark.
So what do you think about Mitch Stravinsky? Do you like his game? And where do you see him going in year three? Yeah, I like his abilities and he shows enough in the run game as well.
That was a That helps that you're running backs because that suddenly, linebackers, we're kind of having to worry more.
Even spy on him.
That kind of takes attention away from someone like you is so dynamic on the outside and with a biscuit.
The key would be the matinee.
It seems like it's it's similar to what? The Florida with Rogers and find there's an exploitable match up.
Some exploitable man gonna be.
Every play is gonna have that.
That player trying to get a certain player trying to get a certain player now today against the Packers Tonight, I expected to be tight end, actually, just because the life experience at linebacker Now we find out that Trey Burton is inactive.
So then suddenly comes in Adam Schiff teams in this year.
So I think, if just speaking strictly on tonight, if Travis Ki confined a connection with Shaheen, that could be something that could be exploited throughout the game. Exploited.
But, yeah, I think it's it's gonna be electricity.
Not always Teoh.
Much to see a guy like Alan Robinson out there, I'm sure, is a quarterback that it's gotta look really appealing to throw T o.
Sometimes that's force feeding him might be the team's air kind of approaching him in single coverage, and we think you have the edge, sure that go with that.
But in other cases, teams may try and and blanket him and do some other things that force you look elsewhere for.
Titanic's Anthony Miller might a huge component this season, actually, hold it this season, actually.
Well, I I kind of sense you're talking about the tight ends.
I wantto I kind of want to flip it over back to Green Bay before I forget.
Because, you know, Jimmy Graham, you know, early in his career, especially with the Saints, was, you know, talked, talked about is one of the, you know, basically him and Gronk one into I mean again.
And it comes with the caveat, though, that, you know, Jimmy Graham is not blocking tight end that Gronk was so there's a distinct difference.
You know, Jimmy Graham was kind of oversight receiver, but he was really good with the safe's, do you see? Especially with the floor coming in his game, expanding a little bit more with the Packers, because again, you know, he I dare say he underwhelmed thus far with this, you know, in his time with the Packers.
Do you see any of that changing anytime soon? Um, I'm not sure.
I guess it depends on the wear and went on the field.
May be surprisingly, Jimmy Graham was second on the team and targets last year had 89 targets only 55 couches.
So it's not like he wasn't used used.
Um, I mean, he only had two touchdowns, so I think maybe one area, I think, where his role may expand is the red zone.
LaFleur is gonna try and manufacture racing him open in the red zone.
But outside of that, I don't know.
On most plate plays, I see, especially the Packers do run more. 11.
The three receivers Adam's, Alison and Marquez.
Bella's Scantlin is being options.
One thing that I know I would want to see this year.
A lot is much more passing to the running back.
Aaron Jones is a really great receivers for running backs.
Run really good seam routes.
He's got good ball skills building to track down field passes on I want Thio so many times.
McCarthy last year and Aaron Jones catch was just a almost a lot of in the backfield.
Oh, hey, he's one yard head of Rogers, but there's there's a lot of times when he was getting the ball behind the line of scrimmage and it seemed unnecessary where he was, you know, using both him and Jamal Williams to get down the field a little more.
And then that leads back to again, Giving Rodgers easy outs and the running back might be the best way to get a quick option.
It's easy out maybe.
Maybe it's Jimmy Graham, too, though you're right, but I kind of see it going more towards the running backs.
Well, into one of the best ways to combat a ferocious pass rush is to get the ball out quickly and you know, instead of like you said, getting the ball out behind the line of scrimmage, where it gives those guys a chance to kind of catch up to it, find ways to get those running backs right behind them.
Because all of a sudden you know, you start getting that ball out quick enough, those those guys aren't gonna be able to catch up.
I mean, look, you know, I don't intend to always kind of bring things back to like Tom Brady and the Patriots, but it's It's a great example where in the past there's been times where the pass rush has been relentless.
But if they get the ball out quick enough, you get you screen set a runningback designed plays not, you know, last Resort plays, but designed ones like you say it's gonna give Aaron Rodgers Maur options and better options where he doesn't feel like OK, if he goes through a second, read all of a sudden like he has to run because no one else was going to get open.
You've got to create these opportunities for him.
And again, I think that all comes back to trying to make him more of a think pocket first, as opposed to think outside the pocket first.
And I'm not saying he does, because I think there's a very distinct difference where, you know, very young, not so great running quarterbacks will make a run.
One read, not like what they see and then just scramble.
You know that's not Aaron Rodgers.
Easy, obviously far better than that.
But again, there's still an inclination on his part that he has two good.
Get out of the pocket and go try and make something happen and and I just don't think that's good, especially against the teams he has to go up against in the division for the long term.
So designed those plays get those running backs open get those, you know, drag routes open, you know, for him to get rid of the ball quickly.
And all of a sudden you're talking about a Packers offense that's probably gonna catapult to the top of the league, because again, you have Aaron Rodgers.
So you know, I'm excited to see it as a football fan again.
Obviously, you know people who followed me.
You see my If you're watching, obviously you're watching on Sportscaster.
You'll see my Twitter handle up there.
Don't look if you're a Packers fan and you generally generally good.
I mean, again, this is most of it's directed to a very select few people, so don't don't take it as a generalization.
I happen to have a lot of friends that are Packers fans, but, um, but if for me, I just that's what I want to see our out Aaron Rodgers, because I do want to see him do well.
And, man, do I really just want to see a Patriots and Packers Super Bowl? Oh, yeah, and it's like I feel like Come on, let's let's let's let's let's bring this together at least once.
We got a couple more years, maybe that will have a chance for both of these guys.
So let's let's let's get it together here.
And maybe maybe this is the year.
Maybe this year finally comes together.
I'm not picking them, so that's that's good.
I'm sure there's lots of the landing pad.
Patriots Sainz? Yeah, there's a few others.
If you stick with the Packers because it's a rematch and I like rematch, it will.
I actually never mind.
Rematches have not been generally good except for the Rams rematch.
But that was I'm putting that on the fact that they're in different cities at the time.
But the Eagles rematch.
Did it go well? Giants rematch to CO Well, hunkers one probably wouldn't go well either, But I still want it.
So, um so, yeah, so here we are.
It's Ah 7 40 I have, like two different machines going on here.
Bradley had to look for this.
So it's 7 40 We got about what, 40 minutes or so 50 minutes before kickoff? Um, you know, we're focusing mainly here tonight, obviously, packers and bears, because it's the 100th anniversary.
It's the oldest rival.
E. It's the greatest rivalry in the sport.
Two of the oldest teams Original four guys.
Um, you know, it's just it's a special night because again, like, yes, as a Patriots fan, I would have loved to see the Patriots kick off the season as most Super Bowl champions.
But I'm not the type of person that's complaining.
There's some people that are kind of complaining about it.
It's like to me, I just I don't understand.
I mean, I understand it, but at the same time, I really like the NFL's decision to go with this game, because again, you know, you're talking about 100th anniversary.
You know, the two oldest franchises in the league, and they're both relevant.
Um, you know, there's been times when the when the bears have been really good and the Packers have been okay and vice versa.
Now they're both kind of, you know, they might be passed in one another, but right now they're kind of the same point where they're both competitive.
That both in it.
So I'm excited for this game.
Um, I said I said, maybe we get I'm sure that patriots Oh, go ahead.
I was gonna say I'm sure that the Patriots fan.
You was thinking, Oh, you know what? It's one year will probably get the kickoff game next year anyway, so? Well, exactly if you've seen our picks, you will know that I will be expecting the kickoff game next year after the Patriots raised there.
I'm running a finger seer soon.
Um, no, I Look, I I feel like I picked the Patriots every year to go to the Super Bowl.
And, um, I'm not gonna change now.
At this point, I've been right more than they have been rocks.
So you know what? It's a pretty safe bet.
The NFC, On the other hand, I have not been as good at this year.
I did pick the Eagles.
I think they're kind of in a position where I think they're gonna have a really good season and maybe write that too.
Again, we're talking about a rematch.
So, you know, I don't know how I feel about that, you know, my personal picks, but I would not be upset if it turned out to be Packers patriots.
Anything patriotsfirst I'm I'm good for, But as a football fan, I'll take any really good game.
But packing a Patriots priority.
Okay, but yeah, so I figured, Hey, look, you know, we gotta cut.
Like I said about 45 minutes or so before kickoff.
Um, to some predictions.
You want to go first? What do you have this game at? And the score and everything like that.
So I said, you message me just before we started this mess for at 27 26 for the Packers.
And even though I have bears were in the soup look and I said, I think the Packers will win the division.
The Bears will make it as 1/5 or sixth seed and then kind of backdoor their way through.
Maybe they take down the Saints at one point, and then that's how they get that Super Bowl.
But I do think the Packers and kind of come out, come out swinging.
If if the floor can create some things that the that the Bears defense hasn't quite seen, you know as much to talk about all the talent on the Bears.
Losing Vic Fangio's defensive coordinator might be something that takes some time for them to adjust.
Adjust, I guess, the one that kind of specific prediction I have is, I think, the Packers they're going to score.
He return touchdown touchdown.
Trevor Davis has been pretty good this year.
Even though it was, you know, there was.
There was a training camp for the job.
Both the people who are the primary computing book made the team dairy a shepherd.
He's an active tonight, so it's gonna all fall on Trevor Davis the return duties.
But he's impressed this year.
And, uh uh, I don't know that the Bears special teams are necessarily really, you know, upper echelon to to work the point where they really shut down the packers returning.
I could see them getting along one off at some point.
So So, yes, I said yes.
Well, and the good thing is, is we're going to disagree because I'm going thio because obviously last year we, uh, way saw the Packers get the big comeback win and everything like that And you know, is the Coolio Max first game, all that fun stuff, I think, Uh, look, I I think the bears are gonna return the favor.
I don't Obviously, I don't think it's gonna be something dramatic come from behind victory.
Um It's certainly not because again, that's that's, uh that, I mean, that would be too much to ask for.
I'm not gonna expect that.
But I do think a bit of poetic justice is an order, and I think the Bears are going to win 24 21 with a field goal at the end of the game.
So I think we're going to get a really great time tonight.
But I think to make Bears fans rest easy, at least for one night, we're going to see a game winning field goal with just with very little time on the clock.
It's certainly not enough for Aaron Rodgers to bring the Packers back, so I got the Bears win in 24 21.
So I'm glad we disagree, too.
Close games, though, So we're Oh yeah, Oh, yeah, e mean you brought up earlier this division so tight.
I mean, we could talk about Minnesota's Well, well, gets get's gonna be one of the most high, highly contested contest division titles this season.
This well, that that's actually something.
I'm glad you said Minnesota, because again, if you if you look at a few goto full press coverage dot com.
You can find all of our picks for the season.
All that and not a single person picked Minnesota.
The wooden north.
There's a Lions in there.
There is a Packers, and there's a bear's, obviously, but there's no Vikings, and I feel like they're almost, you know, just kind of forgot about.
But again, it just speaks to this division and the teams that Yeah, definitely.
I guess time will tell.
So, you know, who knows paper? Minnesota is gonna end up going, like, 14 and two and being the juggernaut that everyone kind of expected them to be.
Okay, I don't really believe that. I didn't pick him.
You know, maybe I could come to get a wild card, but I didn't pick him the window division.
I'll tell you that much, but so thank you.
Once again, everyone out there for for watching.
We're obviously on sportscaster.
This was, uh this was the first of what we're gonna do.
Ah, many of and that's pre and some postgame work myself.
I'm gonna be here back Sunday morning.
And then, of course, Sunday evening after after the sell of four o'clock games and kind of get you set for Sunday Night Football between the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots and the team in Pittsburgh Steelers or something or other.
You know, some franchise.
The Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Majestic like that.
Pirates. Pirates, I think.
No, but anyway, so he stole the unit, you know? So we're gonna be doing a lot of these throughout the season.
You know, we've set up this great partnership with sportscaster dot com.
It's allowed us to a lot of Great. Thanks, Kyle.
I know you're all over to just like myself doing fantasy work.
Tell the people out there Ah, little bit about what? You're gonna be doing the season on a sportscaster.
So, for starters, I'm gonna be actually doing something very similar to this.
I mean, not necessarily right before the game.
And I'm gonna do with the pregame you sort of videos about every package.
Just kind of looking for that week to their opponents, their opponents, You know, the strength of the Packers, certain team, the weaknesses, what I'm concerned with the results are gonna be.
But then I'm also gonna do on Sunday mornings fantasy football show on from sportscasters.
I think the plan right now is to have my co host from the full press fans the podcast allesandro, senator or join me and we're gonna just talk about six start decisions sometimes take our own teams into account and talk about the decision that this is how I'm gonna make this decision, These of the factors I'm factoring into kind of peel behind the curtain.
I'm showing how people decide their fantasy lives.
