place between 9 a.m.
Good morning, everyone.
Or yes, it is Thursday, even though Mike and I just had a five minute conversation trying to figure out what actual date was.
Um, I still almost screwed that up.
But, yes, press insured, folks.
Which means way. Have Thursday Night football Tonight.
We have the Patriots.
We had the Rams.
It's rematch. Um, Super Bowl 53.
The well, according to some of the most boring Super Bowl of all time.
But, well, that wasn't quite the case for us.
We both enjoyed it.
We we both enjoyed the outcome.
And obviously I think the actual game itself, because it was a defensive masterpiece from both teams, and I think it was a lot of fun.
So let's get right into it.
We're gonna bring in the man himself. Mr.
Mike Debate Mike.
What's up, buddy? How's it going? How's your Thursday? Oh, uh, I'm doing well, buddy.
I am doing well.
It is game day here in the Northeast New England Patriots tonight in Los Angeles for the double set of a twin bill going up against the Los Angeles Rams and season on the line playoff hopes on the line for the Patriots.
A lot on the line for the Patriots, but, uh, big game for the Rams to if they want to keep pace and try to snag that NFC West Division title.
So should be a good one tonight in the City of Angels.
And I'm looking forward to it.
Yeah, I mean, it's obviously we have four weeks left in the season for most of these teams.
They all these teams only have four games left.
So all these races air really going Thio be coming down to the wire and this is a big one.
I mean, the Patriots have a chance.
Uh, they would have preferred a, uh hey, Cowboys win the other day.
But there's still a chance for them to find their way into the playoffs.
And it's just a matter of, you know, Most importantly, they have to win.
I don't think they can afford to lose another game if they're looking to to make the playoffs on.
They're obviously going to need a little bit of help from some other teams, something we're not so used.
Thio this time of the year with the Patriots.
Usually it's They need help from other teams to clinch the first round by not just the general playoff spot, but they're right in the thick of things.
Um, this is gonna be a big game because I think the Rams, obviously they're a good team.
But there they have their moments as well.
Most importantly, this is a rematch of the Super Bowl from a couple years ago, and I think it's gonna be fascinating to to see where these two teams are, Obviously, the big difference being There's no Tom Brady involved with this, but the Patriots have been playing pretty well offensively again.
Don't focus on the passing numbers, because clearly, if you do that, you're gonna create a narrative that that is so far from the truth with this team that it won't even be worth discussing.
I mean, this team is good.
They're not the prolific passing team that we've.
We've had our we've seen in New England in the past.
It's just not the case, but I mean, they're dynamic running game is pretty fun to watch.
I'm not gonna lie.
Um not a lot of teams.
They're really focused on this type of offensive play style, A t least, you know, from teams that air competitors.
And, uh, look, I think they're starting to find a group of four and one in their last five, and you're saying there's a chance, Mike, you're saying there's a chance I'm saying there's a chance.
And look, I've seen stranger things happen in professional football.
The Patriots have to get some help.
There's no question about that.
That's not something you have.
Yes, I've seen stranger things.
A bad joke wasn't that bad.
I'm gonna meet my mic right now.
You probably should.
But in any case, no. All kidding aside, folks.
This is gonna be a difficulty run for the Patriots.
They have to win out.
There's no question about it.
Right now, I think, sends them home.
And I think the Patriots know that as well as anybody.
They're going to need some assistance.
Like he and said in being able to make the playoffs, not something Patriots fans were used. Thio.
Yeah, like you said again.
Maybe to reach the top seed or to get home field advantage.
We're used to that a little bit, but not to clinch a playoff spot.
At least not in quite a while.
Um, this Rams team presents a couple of problems for the Patriots.
One. Quarterback, Jared Goff.
Goff is someone that is capable of taking the game over.
He's capable of putting up big numbers.
One thing that he hasn't done so well this year is passed over the middle.
The deep ball has not been an ally.
To Jared Goff is a matter of fact.
The games in which he struggled are against defense.
Is that have challenged him to do just that.
Teams that won't just give him something and allow Jared Goff to take what the defense gives him.
If they try toe, let him and force him to pass over the top.
There haven't been a whole lot of success, so this may be a key for the Patriots to be able to do that.
They're going to need a solid effort from their defensive front.
They're gonna need a big time effort from their linebackers and their edge rushers to get pressure on Jared Goff, keep him out of rhythm make sure that he does not get comfortable in the pocket and be able to set their secondary in coverage.
So that way, if Jared has to throw into tight windows, it's gonna be difficult for him to do so.
The other problem is Aaron Donald, arguably the best defensive player in the country right now, Uh, he presents a lot of matchup difficulties for the Patriots, and I know Patriots were able to hold Aaron Donald in check.
Largely, Joe Tony did an amazing job of those one on one blocks when he wasn't double teams, and I think that's what the Patriots will implode way tonight.
But one of the big reasons why that works so well was because you had Tom Brady under center, getting rid of the football as quickly and as accurately as anyone else in history of the game has done.
I love Cam Newton, but that's not his game, and he's not predicated on doing that.
So if Cam is holding the football, not finding open receivers and this secondary of the Rams, which is very capable of covering the Patriots pass catchers that they have on staff right now, that's gonna be tough to Dio, and I think that's where the Patriots gonna have some matchup problems here.
So the Rams definitely present some issues.
But the Patriots? I think they're coming out with a new found confidence.
I think they're coming out with a new found, uh, where you on the ball early on 1st and 2nd down, established your game and then utilize third and short for Cam Newton toe work, his magic either running the first round or making short Chris passes that advanced the football.
That's when the Patriots are at their best.
If they could do that tonight, I like their chances.
Yeah, and and And I'm glad you touched on that.
I think you know, we we often talking, we often hear Bill Belichick talk about you don't really know who your team is until around Thanksgiving, and I think this year you're kind of it was kind of the same.
It took us a while to figure out who the Patriots, where there were a lot of factors that they went into that.
I mean, first and foremost your You have a new quarterback for the first time in 20 years so that that naturally in any situation.
It's going to cause some, you know, uh, time to adjust.
Add in the fact that there's no preseason.
Add in the fact that there's hardly a training camp.
Add in the fact that Cam got co vid and missed.
Well, I don't want to say missed a month, but obviously missed the game but wasn't the wasn't the same guy for about a month.
It took him a while to to really start to look like a guy that didn't you know.
I mean, there's a couple weeks there where he just looked like he was just a shell of himself and not so much from the ability aspect, but just from the, you know, capability aspect of being able to run and move and and do it smoothly without looking, you know, clunky.
And that's kind of what he looked like for a couple of weeks.
And I think it's safe to say that part of that or a good portion of that was because of him going through Cove.
It, um, obviously we know it affects players differently.
Eso we're not going to sit here and say, Oh, well, this person, this didn't happen to him, and it happened and, well, you know, let's we're not going to sit here and judge people based on what experiences other people had with Kobe.
It this clearly, I think, affected camp.
And we've seen now, over the last several weeks, this team start to come together and, you know, forging identity.
This defense has played really well.
Uh, they're just they're averaging just over 20 points a game allowed, Uh, this season it's its's right there with some of the better defense is in the league, and, you know, look, they got some playmakers to We talked about it earlier in the week.
You know, I said it kind of ironically, but I was like, Man, it's It's funny how often some of these drafted and undrafted players make place for the Patriots, and that's exactly what they're doing. We're talking.
C Jackson gets an interception every week.
Uh, Chase, one of it is all over the field now that his playing time has been pretty steady and pretty regular.
Um, so again, we're looking at a team that has a chance to make it to the playoffs, making it to the playoffs.
I think Would would making ah ah positive season again.
Say it all the time.
This is not a Super Bowl or bust team.
So, yes, is it impressive if they make the playoffs? Absolutely.
Does it rank up? There is one of their better seasons, absolutely considering the cir***stances.
And if you don't believe that, then again, you have some, um, expectation issues that you have to work through because you shouldn't be expecting this team to be the same team that it was under Tom Brady and even with Bill Belichick there, and he'll be the first one to say it like his greatest coaches can be in a they given impact, as the coaches have on this game, all about the players and execution.
And you know, Cam, I love camp, I I dio and we've talked about it pretty extensively.
I think he's he's he's one hell of a player.
I I love his attitude.
I love what he does for this team, and I want them to bring him back.
He's not Tom Brady and and that's not an insult.
And I've said it so many times that there's no one that's Tom Brady and despite how many times Shannon Sharpe contradicts himself.
Um, he was right when he said, Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback to ever play this game.
So again, I'm excited for what this team has.
I mean, this is obviously this is this is playoff season right now for the Patriots.
This is, ah, weird time.
It really is, because not often are you questioning whether or not they're going to make the playoffs.
At this point in the year, you're questioning where they're seating is going to be.
And right now, like we said, it'll be a slim chance.
I don't want to say slim chance.
It'll be, ah, good chance if they went out.
But you can't lose a game the rest of the way out, especially especially against teams like Buffalo in Miami coming up.
So no, without question.
I mean, you've got Buffalo, you've got Miami and they're definitely hungry there in the driver's seat right now to take ah, playoff spot and, of course, buffaloes right now in the driver's seat to take the division.
I don't think there's any question about that.
I think this division is there's to lose and I think they'll take it.
But at the same time, the Patriots all about you know, we're all about trying to look at what the Patriots, you know, perspective is and how they're going to be able to make the playoffs.
You said it very well right off the bat.
They need to win in order for them to actually be able to control their destiny if they don't win that decision and that that Grace becomes all the much more difficult and basically virtually impossible at that point without them winning out.
So there's gonna be a very, very interesting and difficulty, you know, run for them, no question about it.
But, uh, this is a game they have to win because I think one of those that Buffalo and that was Miami games are gonna be very difficulty.
The Patriots would love to get into a little bit of an extra respite on a high note, having taken to in Los Angeles.
Yeah, and and and, you know, for for what it's worth, having a chance to stay out there and not having to travel on a short week is probably gonna help this team again. I mean, it.
They were just out in Los Angeles playing the charge.
It's just a few days ago, it would it.
It wouldn't be a smart thing toe travel and then have to travel back, especially given the cir***stances.
So and I think, look, the Bill Bill knows how to use the time wisely.
This isn't gonna be a wasted trip out there.
They obviously put time into this game plan.
And on the flip side, the ramps are also fighting for playoff positioning.
Now their path to the playoffs is, you know I don't have it right in front of me, but it's certainly easier. You know.
Their 843 NFC isn't as you know, I guess stacked as the A F C.
Whereas like in the NFC, the Patriots would be in the playoffs right now.
I believe a six and six in the A f.
That's not the case.
You're gonna have to win in nine or 10 games to get into the NFC playoff picture.
Um, so the Rams, obviously this is an important game for them.
They're trying Thio keep pace with the Seahawks trying to win this division.
Uh, the NFC West, that is, and you know they're gonna have all the motivation of the world to come in.
And I know it's not a quote unquote revenge game, but there's there's a lot of players on that roster that were on that team two years ago.
Who lost that Super Bowl? So they're gonna wanna, you know, try toe.
Yeah, try to exact a little bit of a revenge from that game.
So there I imagine they're going to come out pretty pretty focused pretty on point, you know? So this is not a game that the Patriots could get off to a slow start.
They really got to attack them like they did the Chargers last week.
No, no question about it.
They need to get out and do exactly what they did against the Chargers last week.
And again, that's not gonna be easy, considering the Rams defensive front is much better, much more equipped to absorb the run.
This is a team that is third ranked in the league at defending run.
They know how to stop runners.
They know how to stop runners that air powerful.
They know how to stop runners that air quick and shifty Damian Harris.
Quick and shifty, he's shown the ability to do that.
Sony, Michelle James, White arm or, you know, threats.
Well, James White.
Definitely more of a threat out of the backfield.
Sony might be used Maurin second down situations, but ultimately, the Patriots are going to need to establish their game on the ground in early downs.
Like I said before, 1st and 2nd are going to be he tonight.
If you see the Patriots picking those off getting first downs early and not having to get put into third and long early in the game, then you know their offense is clicking.
Do you know they're able to play their game and then you're going to see the New England Patriots play their maximum ability? But if they're getting stuffed on 1st and 2nd down and you start seeing thirds and tens 3rd and 11 3rd and 12 even third in like 789 that's gonna be difficult for them to overcome.
Because Cam is not predicated on getting the ball out as quickly as Tom did.
That's where they're going to struggle, and to me, that's gonna be the battle that's gonna be the key for tonight's game that protecting the football, obviously not turning the ball over.
But if they get, they get into situations where sacks air moving them back and they're losing yardage at the line of scrimmage.
That could be the kiss of death for New England tonight.
That's the one thing that worries me most in this game, even more so than trying to shut down the Rams offense, which I think the Patriots have the defensive prowess to dio, it's more or less.
Can this offense be able to put up points on the Rams defense? I think that's gonna be the key to this game.
Well, look, the Patriots, they they've been pretty good at protecting the ball.
There was, ah, couple games ago were came through a pick.
But for the most part, they've done a really good job of protecting the ball after kind of a spell of turnovers there earlier in the season.
Um, I'll ask you So Obviously, Jared Goff is a focus on the offense.
We know Aaron Donald to focus on the defense.
What offensive player should the Patriots worry about The most We know, we know they have the guys Thio, Thio, make some noise on defense.
You know, we see it every week.
These guys air emerging, but this Rams offenses is dynamic, and you're gonna have to figure out who you're going to cover and how you're going to cover them.
So who do you think is going to be the biggest? Uh, I guess issue for the Patriots on defense, at least besides golf, who I think at that point is really the key to what what they're gonna be able to do if Jared Goff is getting to his bread and butter, which is short underneath passes for short yardage, that's gonna be a very difficult thing for the Patriots to stop.
If he's getting those passes and the Patriots or giving them to him and he's taking advantage of them, it's gonna be a long night in New England or going night floor. New England.
And I should say in Los Angeles, my sharp eye is gonna be on Robert Woods.
It'll be on Cooper Cup.
Thes guys are one and two in terms of receptions and yardage on the team.
Uh, they're very capable, very good with yards after the catch.
So even If they're getting short passes from Jared Golf, they're turning it into multiple yardage after the catch.
That something that the Patriots need to be able to defend against.
They're gonna need a solid effort from their secondary and being able to do that in the running game.
Darryl Henderson had a 38 yard run for a touchdown against the San Francisco Excuse me against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
UH, Sam run gain in check.
So Patriots may want to pulled from that game tape a little bit and see what they did successfully with being able to stop.
Los Angeles has run because they have three running backs that are capable of doing the job.
Cam makers is their star.
Rookie running back.
He's banged up a little bit.
I think he's gonna go in this game.
He was removed from the injury report, so he looks like he's good to go, but he's gonna be limited in his action.
So that means a little bit more of Malcolm Brown, A little bit more of Darrell Anderson, but they will continue to run the ball and they run the ball effectively.
Tyler could be at the at the tight end position could make some places well, so a lot of guys to keep a nigh on.
But I would say probably if I had to pick one to take away.
It would probably be Cooper Cup in this situation, as good as Robert Woods is and as explosive as he can be, I think Cooper Cup is the guy that makes that offense go.
He's the type of guy.
He's almost like a Julian Edelman and his type of role in what the Rams do.
Well, he's a safety net for Gerrard off, and he's excellent with yards after the catch.
That's the guy to watch tonight.
Yeah, and and again, you know, he could do damage all across the field, not just in one particular area.
But I did notice you did say keep a sharp eye.
So I'm glad you're recalling your your album title that I think if people weren't paying attention the other day, and I'm gonna bring this up here right now because I e.
If you didn't see the album, if you're on SportsCastr right now, you'll be able to see this.
I'm gonna pop it up on the screen.
Um, if you haven't seen there you go.
If you haven't seen the album cover Mike's, uh, debut debut album or at least the one that hit the charts right at the top.
Keeping a sharp eye.
AM goody stores all across the nation.
Do they even have those stores? Are they still around? Sam Goody strawberries.
All those places.
Remember those? I have.
No, I Oh, yeah. Strawberry.
Strawberries was local here.
That was like the big local store in Rhode Island.
But Sam didn't have goodies in Rhode Island.
It was strawberries kind of local.
I thought that was ah, national.
Uh, it was a national, but, I mean, that was a big, in other words, in Rhode Island, that was the big story.
They don't have Sam Goody's in Rhode Island when I was a kid.
So we used to have to go up to Quincy Market Faneuil Hall in Boston to the Sam Goody there.
And that used to be the big tree, like, Oh, we're really We're graduating with a big time now.
Yeah, here we go.
E wasn't sure if you're going to notice I had the volume so low, just kind of Ah, kind of a background mood center.
Yeah, um, no, that it's funny because I don't know if I feel like people, like coordinate these things on Twitter, but you see a lot of those the last couple of days, like, you know, talk about your favorite t or reveal your age without revealing your age type of thing or say, a store that, you know, it was around your kids and I saw a lot of the strawberries to Sam Goody that, like the CD stores where you walk in and they were overpriced DVDs.
And when they first came out and all that stuff, it was, yeah, you know, it's one of those things.
Maybe maybe a little nostalgia makes you feel like you actually miss it when in reality now all you gotta do is just go to YouTube or download a song on Amazon.
And there you go.
You know, you don't have to deal with going to the ball because that was the thing.
Sam Goody was in the mall.
If I remember correctly, that was like You have toe yet the brave, the crowds.
There And, you know, I was much like I am now, and I I hate crowds and lines and stuff like that.
I I basically based, if I go to get food, I base it on what's the longest Wait.
There's been times when I've walked into a restaurant, seem like three or four people in line and just turned right around because I'm like, nah, e don't like way.
I e can't, uh, yeah, I can't I can't blame you, but, uh, yeah, strawberries was local here in, uh, in Rhode Island.
I know they were a national chain, but they were actually bought out by a company called F Y E.
And I want to thank our good.
Our great listener, the lovely star from the Garden State in New Jersey, did point out that f y e was the big store where she grew up.
And, yes, f y e was around, but they kind of penetrated into Rhode Island later when they bought out strawberries, Which, uh yeah, that's I think so.
I think it was more regional than anything else.
Maybe, but it wasn't just local to Rhode Island, but Sam Goody was like That was the big moment when you went to Boston, you had to go up there because they didn't have them around in Rhode Island when I was a kid.
So, yeah, we're really showing R E was going to say, And folks, if if you're under a certain age to put it in perspective, um, this is this is much like the when we wax poetically about the video store, because again, when when you think about it, Okay, you have an option.
You can either sit on your couch and rent in view any movie that you want by a couple of clicks to the button.
Or you could get in your car, you could go drive.
You could walk through a bunch of crowded people, look at video cases and and choose one and then drive home.
It seems like an obvious choice to just sit home and do it, but there was a certain experience that went along with it.
Same was going to like a CD store.
And when I was a kid, when I got my first job at the at the nice age of 13, I was working.
I was working early. My friend.
Um, I was working in a convenience store, Get paid cash, you know, do some cleanup stocking shelves, that type of thing.
I was getting, like, anywhere from, like, 12 to 20 bucks a day type of thing.
Two or three hours, and I would think like, Oh, you know how many CDs I could buy with that? Like that was that was the motivation.
I was like, Okay, you know, it's simpler times, my friends, simpler times.
Now I'm looking at health insurance And how toe, you know, pay for the dentist and all that.
Now, back then, it was okay.
When When can I get the newest CD? When when this jock jams to come out, Okay.
I mean, Well, actually, no.
I did have some of those early jock jams, uh, CDs, but who didn't? Who did it? I mean, you play sports, you gotta You gotta listen to all that stuff, but no, look, it was an experience.
I miss it a little bit.
I mean, not that I would actually go out and go to the store.
Now, I hate doing that now, but maybe for like to go rent a video I would do that.
I mean, you know, those that that was always that was the big, you know, it was like the big night out.
You know, when you were kids and you didn't have anything to actually do, But that actually constituted a night out was being able to go out rent movies of Blockbuster and you know, you know, I mean, of course, I said back in the day, you know, Hollywood video was the place that that I used to work and thank God, Thank God there are pictures through the the place to be.
That's right place a place that yes, the place to be.
Much like the much like Frankenstein's billiard room, where the neutral place without any pants.
All kidding aside.
Yeah, I think it was.
You wanna talk about streaming and being able to download movies? Did you honestly think we were gonna get through this hour without me talking about a very big event for me yesterday? And that is the release.
The release of the Season three trailer of Cobra Kai.
It is available, and everybody is loving it right now. It's gonna be great.
It's gonna be awesome.
And everybody can't wait to see it.
Well, I'm going to say everybody.
I mean, me, But, you know, I can't wait to see it for one.
But it is something that I think is, uh, going thio get a lot of downloads comes up January 8th on Netflix and tell you it looks good.
I like the The teaser trailer gave some hints, but it doesn't give away too much.
Uh, I think the production value that Netflix is gonna add to this show is gonna be great.
We'll see what happens.
But some fan favorites coming back to some characters from the old movies and some rumors about characters that weren't seen in the trailer that we're hearing are going to be in the season.
Gonna be a lot of fun.
So if your karate kid fan definitely want to check this out, be honest.
Are you in full? Get up right now.
I know. I know. You were.
Yes, I have the cobra Kai key.
I've got the the you know, the bandana.
Um team Cobra kai right now is that people say they go.
Team Cobra Kai, Your team Miyagi dough? I don't know.
I'm kind of I think I'm like team Johnny Lawrence.
Right now I'm kind of in the middle, You know, you can't really go completely over to the dark side of Crease.
But, you know, Miyagi dough is just, you know, it's a little that's that's a little bit Thio, you know, a little bit too, you know, you know, just just a little too, you know, easy going.
But e really, I think in terms of reboots, we've talked about this before.
I'm not a fan of reboots.
I'm not a fan of remakes at all, But this is one of the very few that did it and did it the right way.
And that's why I'm such a big fan of it.
Yeah, and And look, I'm same way too.
But then again, you find something that I like, Really? But some of start saying, Oh, they might reboot 24 be like, All right, let's do it. All right, let's see.
So I'm right there with you, um, and folks out there.
This isn't just today.
Think with Mike.
He wears that G every day.
I mean, it's kind of a problem.
Yeah, we're trying to help him out here, but now I think it's appropriate.
Yes, I'm getting help.
But there's Yeah, there's there's just a some issues.
So, you know, just not a lot.
Yeah, but a little issues a lot, but you have a lot of issues.
Yeah. Anybody that knows me knows that.
Yeah, well, they also know that she came out with an album.
It's called Okay, you know, keep a sharp. Yeah.
So let's let's go back here because I do want to bring it back Thio actual football in sports and everything like that.
So, naturally, we do have Thursday night football tonight.
We already talked about that New England, Los Angeles.
Um, I Look, I I have not been great with my picks.
There was that one week where i e It was clearly clearly an outlier e mean, there's no doubt about that, but I did have that one week where I went 12.
No, other than that, it's been it's been pretty rough going for me, except from Monday.
I did pretty Well, on Monday, I'm going to start this week off by saying I'm taking the Patriots.
I mean, at this point, it's a little bit of bias.
I'll give you that.
It's easier for me to just go back and say, Oh, you know what? I'm just gonna take the Patriots.
Well, they're actually playing some really good football right now, and, uh, you are, You know, going up against the Rams is a tough Absolutely.
It's gonna be a tough one.
It's gonna be probably a lot tougher than the Charger, especially on special teams.
Um, but I do think that the Patriots, with their backs up against the wall, continues to play really, really well.
And, you know, every week that goes by, we get closer and closer to the playoffs.
And you never know.
Mike, You never know.
You do never know.
You absolutely do never know.
And you know what? I'm locked on Patriots.
I said it. I said it. A Murph show.
Uh, you know, one patriots, please.
Earlier this week, call me a homer.
I'm going with the Patriots in this one, and I You know, I don't think it's gonna be a blowout.
You're not gonna see 45 to nothing in this one, folks.
If we do, I would be absolutely shocked beyond belief.
Uh, simply because I think this Rams team is just head and shoulders above what? The Patriots on Sunday.
But two things make me feel confident about the way the Patriots were playing.
Josh McDaniels, play calling the last couple of games has really tried to play to Cam Newton.
Now, A lot of this is going to be whether or not Can can play up to his strength if he can, and we saw him do it on Sunday.
I like the Patriots ability to move the ball against this Rams defense.
Patriots offensive line right now.
Matches up very well with that defensive front.
They can't sustain long drop backs.
That's where this ranch.
So if the Patriots could get the ball out early, if they could get the drop backs going, if they can utilize, play action and utilize the run game on 1st and 2nd down, that third down opportunity is gonna open up.
And that's where the Patriots could score and get to Thean zone on defense.
Trying to contain Aaron.
Donald is gonna be tough.
They're going to double him at first on.
I think you're gonna see double coverage on him early on.
But build Electric hinted at this earlier during his media conference call.
He said, You can't allocate too many.
Resource is toe Erin because then you free up.
Ah, lot of other defenders.
And there are a number of defenders that can play.
You know the game pretty well in, um, in Los Angeles.
It's not all about Aaron, Donald Sebastian.
Joseph Day has been very good in the middle of that defense, being that type of nose tackle that they lack the last couple of years.
He stepped up into that role and done it very well.
Michael Brokers just on the other end of Aaron Donald, and that's a pretty formidable three man front in a 34 set like Grant.
Like the Rams play, they've got linebackers that can fill the middle to Troy reader Kenny Young.
Those guys were very good at being able to play the middle of the field.
Then you're talking a very good maybe even one of the best secondaries in the NFC this year with Jalen Ramsey and Troy Hill at the cornerback positions.
John Johnson and Jordan Fuller back in the state.
50 positions so they can cover without any question.
But if you can control Donald, you can make the control of the offensive game, and I think that's where the Patriots win this.
To me, that's gonna be the battle of the game.
I'm not even so much worried about the Patriots going and trying to shut down Jared Goff because at the same time, if the Patriots were putting a point for point, that means they're playing their game, and I think that's where they can take this one.
So, Theo, end of the day, I like the Patriots in a close one.
But I like the 2021 to 17 over the L. A. Rams tonight.
Gonna be a low scoring one.
Yeah, no, certainly.
And you know, I I agree with you.
I mean again, I don't think this is gonna certainly not gonna be a 40 five to nothing blowout.
I think that was a nice treat for everyone to watch this past Sunday, But this one's gonna be a lot closer.
I think there's there's there are emotions from a couple years ago, you know, maybe more so on the ramp side.
But, you know, there are players, obviously, that were on this team, that for the Patriots that won the Super Bowl back then.
So there is that familiarity.
And of course, you know, going up against a guy like, uh, Aaron Donald, you're always going to have your head on a swivel because you know that he can change the landscape of this game at any given moment.
So I do have the Patriots and in a fairly close game, and, uh, I I imagine it's gonna be pretty entertaining unless you already have it in your mind that this game is gonna be the exact same way It was a couple of years ago and you already hated it.
So, Mike, guess what Today is the 10th.
You know what that means? Um, we There's 15 days till Christmas.
Uh, close, close.
There's 13 days until Oh, yes, the tradition of Festivus begins.
That's what the airing of grievances one of my favorite times of the year.
And certainly one where we way seem to always have a show to dio around festivals.
So this is gonna be fun.
Uh, 13 days, my friend.
13 days, Uh, two weeks from yesterday.
Festivus Celebration Thio.
You know, I think you could make the argument that 2020 has just been one long Festivus celebration.
Everybody's been airing grievances since March, folks.
So, you know, get your Festivus grievances in that.
That might be good space.
That's right. That's right.
Thank you, Frank.
We will get the pull out of the crawl space, but of course, it requires no decoration.
Frank Costanza, Ian and myself all find tinsel distracting.
That's it. See, Frank? Right on the money.
He tells you like it is.
But you know what? That may be a good exercise.
I think we really should ask some of our listeners to send in their festive his grievances.
And we could read them on the air.
We could read them on the air on festival.
So if you're listening, if you're listening toe fbc radio live right now.
Drop us a line at FBC Radio Live on Twitter.
We would love to air your Festivus grievances.
You know, he and I are gonna be doing it, so we want to hear from you to What is This is your heritage.
Is that part of who you are? Absolutely right.
And we want to hear all the ways in which people around the world have disappointed you throughout the year.
Keep it clean, folks.
Don't forget we're a family show.
So, you know, keep it clean, keep it respectful.
But you know, Festivus grievances in general will be happy Thio to share.
Yeah, we will certainly get that set up when we get a little bit closer.
But always tag us at FBC Radio Live on Twitter, if you ever I want to get your comments and early.
I know some people will already have some grievances.
There's a lot thio to grieve about and, uh, be upset about, so we will, uh that will be a lot of fun as it is every year that we do it.
And I think this year, um, it'll be more so and I think will really come out and say but the Wednesday after, we're gonna have a lot of fun.
A So we get closer and closer to the holiday season.
Uh, update me, Mike, have you have you watched any Christmas movies because I I got one that came in the mail yesterday that I'm quite proud of.
Quite excited about this be Would this be the rousing holiday classic? Yes.
Yeah, friend as I reach you must watch it.
You cannot waste any more time.
You have to it now you have to take the DVD.
You have to put it in. Now you have to do it.
Way Could all watch it together on SportsCastr Now Jingle all the way Starring obviously Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sinbad and the kid who would go on to play Anakin Skywalker in return of the Clones or Attack of the Clones.
I just mashed up thio to Star Wars movies right there.
But turbo man turbo Terrible, terrible man, You gotta get Yes, we had terrible man. Terrible.
It's one of my It's one of my favorites, as we, uh rockem sockem jetpack.
You know, I e just popped inside my head.
I just I'm thinking of three jingle all the way.
It's been a while since I've seen it, and all of a sudden you're like turbo man, and I'm like, Wait a minute rocket stock and get back.
There you go. See, folks.
See all the random crap that goes through a I'm going Thio amazes me on their appearance.
Well, I mean, that's coherent.
Is all relative relative coherent relative to us? Yes.
Coherent relative to normal people.
Yeah, we'll see.
We'll see how that goes.
Uh, no, we we both have this.
We're both under the same mindset that, uh I don't like a Christmas story.
I brought this up before.
I think it z a very much over.
I think it's on par with Turkey where I think people just enjoy it because they've been told to enjoy it for so many years and they haven't, you know, learned otherwise.
They haven't got rid of that learned behavior.
I think a Christmas story is the same exact way.
And, you know, obviously you brought up you the issues with it being played for 24 straight hours.
That's just just unnecessary.
I I say you replace it with jingle all the way.
I'd rather watch jingle all the way for 24 straight hours than a Christmas story, but I think we decided, and maybe next week, Actually, no, We'll save it.
We'll save it for the week of festivities.
That'll be, uh that would be quite the holiday, I guess.
The quite the holiday.
Because I believe Christmas lands on a Friday.
So Friday, Christmas Eve on Thursday and festive It's on on Wednesday.
So we're you know, we got the whole week covered here on FBC Radio Live.
So I think that week I think that's when we do our Christmas movie draft.
We talked about it.
I believe last week.
We haven't really put the put the plans in motion yet, but I think that week we should do that.
We should draft our favorite Christmas movies and see you has the best, uh, team quote unquote, I think this will be a lot of fun.
Perhaps we could go, Uh I mean, hell, there's so many of them out there.
We could feel the whole 53 man roster.
If we wanted Thio.
I think we could I think there's definitely a chance on then.
Yeah, we did talk about this, and I think it's a great idea.
I think it's a great move and yeah, definitely.
Uh, Christmas movies, folks, And, uh, if there's, you know, some that you'd like to see a part of the draft again.
We're feeling very interactive today.
Here on ABC Radio live, you know, drop us a tweet.
Let us know if there's a holiday classic that you think doesn't get enough credit or enough national love for being a great Christmas movie. Drop it in.
Well added to the mix, we'll add it to the pool of talent that might be selected.
Now, will it be drafted? Can't guarantee that.
But we'll at least put it in the pool and we'll publish the pool before we're ready.
Thio do this so you can see who were choosing from, uh, with with this, uh, this pool or who knows, Maybe we'll just, you know, surprise people and take one out of thin air.
But, you know, if if there's some that you want to see featured, keep us posted, let us know, Yeah, I think we're going to cover them all.
And I would I would say we have quite a I mean, all I gotta do is just say something and, you know, related to any sort of eighties movie and like can give us the full history.
So we clearly have a unnecessarily large amount of knowledge when it comes to some of the stuff.
Or at least, you know, we just think it's knowledge.
And really, it's just we've waste a lot of time watching movies over and over again.
But you know what? I'm going to stick with knowledge.
I'm going to say that we're smart and we're cultured and we're You know, we we just love the season.
We love the holiday season no matter what.
Whether it's legitimate movies, comedy, movies, uh, parody movies, it doesn't matter.
Die are That's a Christmas movie.
I think we can all agree with that.
Um, it will be interesting.
Will die hard, go first.
Overall, that's a good question, because that's a good question, because I think this isn't this isn't a slam dunk.
It go first on this draft because I think diehard is obviously in the mix there, there in the mix for one of the top ones.
But again, there's there's a lot of strategies to go to this, and I'm already it's already I'm already thinking about and, you know, the strategy does come to if you choose diehard first overall.
Is this a movie that technically, you could watch all year long, including Christmas? That has to factor into the decision.
Versatility, my friend.
So you know what? Maybe maybe all of a sudden as we approach the draft, maybe diehard stock is up.
Diehard stock up.
E was going to say we will certainly get it.
There were maybe about, like, 0.
6 of our listening percentage.
That actually just got that reference.
I know you're one of them was You're just a sick as I am E Well, and I got a few gray hairs and the side of my head, so that indicates that I've been around a little bit longer than some, but, um, no, I I think this will be a lot of fun. Excellent.
Her up looking down.
It's going to start sitting here doing quotes over and over again.
You're you're lucky I didn't find the Rodney soundbite when you said which.
Which tea or which movie gets.
I was gonna say which movie gets no respect.
Now I've been thinking about that.
I'm like, you know what? That that might be a good segment What? What team? What? What? Yeah, You know what? Let's do that.
I'm gonna put you on the spot, Mike.
I'm gonna put you on the spot.
Roddy, Debate field.
All right, Which team? Right now, Which player? Which coach? Which? Anything heading into the final quarter of the NFL season is getting no respect.
And then question number two Christmas movie doesn't get respect.
I know we're hitting on every every every part of the spectrum here, and you're just gonna have to keep up here, because that's what we do here.
We're firing a mile a minute.
So I'll tell you.
You know, we're talking football, aren't we in terms of teams that get no respect, I'll tell you a team that doesn't get any respect.
The nine and three sits at the nine and three Cleveland Browns.
They're not getting any respect.
And I'll tell you, you know what, nine and three, they're taking out everybody.
Well, everybody could talk about his Baker Mayfield that he is, you know, it's it's terrible.
You know Baker, He was you know, they tell him.
Is this teeth getting yellow? He wears a brown jersey.
No one cares. Nobody cares. about this kid.
Nobody cares of the Cleveland Browns and nine and three, I'll tell you, it's unbelievable.
You know, two years, two decades of absolute futility and they can't get international love.
This is a team right now.
I tell you, they could do it.
They got, they got the offense, they get the defense.
They got the coaching staff, and no one can seem to be able to give them any love.
So I'm giving love for the Browns.
Give love for the Browns, even though the city sucks after they sacked the quarterback, they went after his family.
That's right, and they're going have to pay his family every single time.
There's a girlfriend is getting hammered.
His wife is getting hammered on 20 on Twitter every single time.
I hate it, but the Cleveland Browns get no respect, and I'll tell you what.
It really it upsets me.
It upsets me very, very deeply because this kid does deserve some respect for what he's doing out there.
You know? E wish I wish I could.
I wish I could give him the respect, you know, but I can't do it you know it.
Z getting old in, you know, tell you it's it's stuff that stuff getting old, it really is.
It's tough being who I am, stuff being ugly.
You know, My mother used to feed me with a slingshot.
E can't even take it anymore.
Um, teams that a player that's getting no respect.
I tell you, a player that's getting no respect, I'll tell you, it's a tough one.
That's a tough one, a player getting no respect.
Its's not being a player in the NFL, you know.
It really, really is gonna go with Philip Rivers in Indianapolis.
Everybody says he sucks.
He's got this team in contention.
You know? Everybody said he was terrible last year that he had completely lost.
It was going in Indianapolis.
I think he's done a pretty good job.
I covered Philip in in Los Angeles.
Let me tell you, you guys got a lot of kids, just a bit of busy guy.
He's a very busy guy in the off season.
But let me tell you, you know, I think he's been I think he's been under the radar this year in terms of guys that have made a difference on that team.
You gotta Indianapolis back in the mix now.
So those are the guys that I think, then you need a little respect, so they need a little more respect in, you know? And then we get a little more respect.
I think the world's a better place.
What do you think? Well, I I want to ask you.
I'm trying to figure out the jets here.
Are the Jets not getting respect or are they? Just, uh, get deserve respect.
I'll tell you, the jets are so bad.
You know about the Jets? Uh, no.
But this is this is this Jets team is you know, every time they go into, uh, MetLife Stadium, the locks have changed.
You know? They're trying to keep him out.
You know, the Giants don't want any part of it.
They want to turn the whole stadium blue.
They won't want to see green at all.
Bill Belichick, Chicken Bill Parcells, women.
They didn't want to go in the locker room.
I'll tell you, that's no respect, But the jets don't deserve any respect cause they haven't won a game.
You can't get respect if you can't win, and that's the way it is.
You know, they like the me of the NFL.
No respect, but no, no respect deserved.
You know, they don't do anything to earn it.
That's exactly what is going on there.
But the Jets not no respect, but they don't deserve respect time where? How, you know, in what way could this that Jets team actually ever compete? Where can they compete? Because, well, maybe the USFL, maybe the Canadian Football League look if they tank for Trevor and they get this look, if they get this kid Lawrence, who knows, you know what? They'll find a way to mess that up to.
You know, it's just It's one of those things that I think you know, the Jets right now they're just a mess.
You know, when you're a jet, you're a jet all the way from the first fumbled snap to the last bungle play.
That's the way it ISS.
And then that's That's the story, and I'm sticking to when it comes to the New York Jets.
That was incredibly clean sound bite.
I'm going to pull that.
I'm gonna use that over and over and over again.
And that's gonna be the the motto that goes on my gravestone when you're very well done.
That my friends were very well done.
Um, that that killed enough time for us to say goodbye.
No, Uh, I'm actually Oh, you got about.
I forgot about Christmas movies.
You know, you're talking about no respect not giving me any time to feel underrated.
Underrated Christmas movie.
You know, I gotta go with Frosty the Snowman.
You know, a lot of people don't love it because it's an animated version.
It's one thing with Rudolph in the gold motion of Santa Claus is coming to town.
Rose is a good movie.
I'll tell you, it's good. You gotta guys.
Hey, turns into a snowman.
He melts, you know, but But he brings love.
He brings all kinds of happiness to the family and all these Children that all love him around.
So, you know, Plus, I love to see fat guys get respect.
You know, I'm Frosties, a chubby guy, you know, like I am.
You know you well.
I'm not in good shape. You don't take my body to science fiction.
But in a lot of ways that I think it z good.
It's it's good for people.
So I think Frosty the Snowman deserves a little more love a tous time again.
You know what, folks? Mike, Mike, Debate Field just got a raise because he carried us there in the last 10 15 minutes with really? What? Ideo finally got some respect.
Folks, thank you very much for putting up with all that.
We appreciate you sticking around If you stuck around, remember, we both pick the Patriot way.
Lost these people along.
Oh, yeah, We're basically just talking to each other right now, but it's okay.
I mean, when we're not just talking to each other, that's essentially what we're doing.
Remember Thursday Night Football tonight Patriots Rams kicking off? Week 14? Uh, yes, we 14 are.
I don't even know. Week 14.
I'm telling you, I got I gotta I gotta get more.
I gotta get more in touch with what's actually going on.
I'm being distracted right now because there's a giant cat on my desk just rolling around playing against the wall.
So, uh, stay tuned.
