What is up, everyone? This is empire Sports talk with May.
Look, Backman is I'll be covering the Big Apple's top stories and everything related to the Yankees Jets.
That's all live for my home studio office in Arlington, Texas, I maybe 2000 miles away.
But I still got the best New York hot takes on the Internet, Internet and with all that being said, a stop into today's topics.
So as usual, company accompanied every Thursday, we're going to do our weekly preview of the next game for the New York Jets, as they will be traveling to Seattle to take on the Seattle Seahawks.
But really, I really want to dive deep into the What is it, the Montross ity of the game we blew against the Oakland Raiders? Excuse me, Las Vegas Raiders.
Now I'm really going to dive deep into that game.
We should have one for sure.
But first, as usual, let's look at both teams.
Both teams air coming off the loss like obviously, Jets lost 31 to 28 to the Raiders.
The Seahawks got upset, and it was a surprising upset.
The lost 17 to 12 to the Giants.
Not another great game for muscle.
Wilson will get into him.
Hey was I has been saying for a long time that he was my M V P pick, but especially the last four weeks, he's fallen out of that discussion.
Let Patrick Mahomes takeover, then VP race.
Eso getting quickly into the Seattle injuries.
Jets injuries, uh through the Jets are wide receiver Denzel Mims.
He has a family emergency.
It's gonna be huge. He's been making strides.
He's been making strides, helping out our wide receiving corps, and he's gonna be out.
Which is gonna put a lot of more lot more pressure on Jamison Crowder as he was sort of getting pressure taken off of him.
But this week he's gonna be a lot more.
Are right guard Greg, Man Rotten.
He's out with the toe injury.
You would think that a toe injury he could get over, but I I did some research, and a lot of people have had to retire because of turf, toe or toe injuries, especially being a guard.
I can see how that affects you, So he's out both safeties for us, Ashton Davis and Ben Jackson.
Or out, along with Frank Gore.
He's limited with a concussion.
We're going to need him for anything offensively running the ball.
This is probably one of the probably the biggest injury for the Jets.
On the defensive side of the ball is Marcus May.
He's limited with sort of rib injury.
If you watch the Oakland game, you saw how big Marcus made played.
He was huge for us on the defensive side of the ball.
We need him at all for we need him.
Especially if he could potentially lined up across from D. K. Metcalf.
I'm not sure if that's how they do it, but he potentially could.
And then finally, linebacker Jordan Jenkins and in practice with shoulder and drink, moving quickly to Seattle tight end Greg Olsen.
He's been out for a while. No surprise.
He's out with an ankle injury.
Offensive tackle DaMarcus not DaMarcus Gianmarco Jones.
Excuse me? He didn't practice with a groin injury.
Ryan Neil Safety didn't practice with a hip injury.
They're running back.
Carlos Side is limited with the toe injury, so a couple of two injuries on both sides sort of uncommon to see, but it is what it is.
Um, taking a quick dive into Seattle season.
I, they started off is, in my opinion, may be the best team in the league.
They started off five and, uh oh, racking up wins against the Falcons, the Patriots, the Cowboys and Cowboys, not cowboys.
That was with that press.
Scots get still so more respectable.
Win on that one.
Beat the Dolphins and then beat the Vikings.
They went in the week six.
That was their bye week.
Right? And everything since there has been, I want to say down downhill, but has been downhill.
Uh, they've lost.
They lost a nail biter.
I think you could even say potential Game of the year against the Cardinals.
The game that D. K.
Metcalf ran down and stopped.
Oh, my goodness.
Uh, the Cardinals defender 100 yards for the touchdown.
I can't remember his name was a Buddha Baker.
He might have caught Buddha Baker from scoring the 100 yard pick six.
That was the game, the first loss of the season.
Then they come back.
They beat the division rival 40 Niners team 37 27 that was a game actually watching it, even though it's 10 points. It was not that close.
The Seahawks had that game and control all will be all granted that this was the game that George Kittel and you got was injured.
Garoppolo was out.
We all know the 40 Niners injuries, you know, plentiful so well.
That was a win they lost against the Bills in Buffalo, 44 to 34.
That was a real sloppy game by Russell Wilson and multiple turnovers, and it just looked like the Buffalo we came to play and was the better team.
Uh, then they lost to the Rams, 23 to 16.
Got the revenge on a Thursday night game against the Cardinals against Arizona, 28 21.
Followed that up with another win against the Philadelphia Eagles, 2030 17.
And the Eagles, everyone knows, is having their problems, and the 17 came off.
I believe there's a late touchdown, and then Philadelphia went for two.
So the defense played good in that game, right? Uh, but against that was against Carson Wentz, who's now played well and was actually bench for Jalen Hurts earlier this week, which is a whole nother topic about what's going on in Philadelphia.
It's really been What is Carson Wentz? His future? I'm gonna go off on a little tangent, our little side piece right here.
I think you give Jalen hurts some run for the rest of the season.
Obviously, they're starting him.
I hope they don't flip flop.
I don't like when teams flip flop back and forth between quarterbacks personally.
Just it stunts the growth for both of them and especially a young quarterback.
And Jalen hurts, I believe, Just get him reps on the field.
So that's my opinion on the situation in Philadelphia on then last week.
Week 13, they lose to the New York Giants without Daniel Jones.
That's the big key.
While the Giants have been playing better, their defense has been playing.
As you could tell by the they didn't give up 12 points.
They only gave up 10 because the Seahawks had a safety in that game, right? So they played a Giants team without Daniel Jones.
Colt McCoy was a starting quarterback for the Giants in that game, and they go into Seattle and beat Seattle.
So we're gonna ask We're gonna have to see how Seattle Response it's.
We're gonna have to see what they're made of because they should not lose to the Jets.
Everyone knows this.
If you play the Jets, you should not lose to him.
Uh, we all know my Jets are winless, Still still in contention for the number one pick.
I was scared because if we would have beat Oakland, the Jaguars lost.
We would have been tied.
And they have the tiebreaker because I believe they have the easier schedule. That's how it goes.
Um, so, uh, looking back, I was happy we lost, But, I mean, I don't think I should delay it anymore.
Just go straight into talking about the game against Oakland.
This was talking about the game against Oakland.
Now this was one off the most jet things that could ever happen.
Sam Donald played good.
Shout out to Sam Donald.
He finally came through clutch.
I want to say clutch, but he came through.
He had got to passing touchdowns in the first half.
He hadn't had any in the lab prior.
Four or five weeks, I believe.
Right? It was great to see Sam.
Donald actually play well, have some mojo.
Have some energy, some life about him, right, and the offense went right off of that.
We scored 28 points, especially this offense.
You hope that would be enough to win? We scored 20 plus in multiple games that we should have +11 against New England on Monday Night Football and then last Sunday, right? But as much as I want to go into this and say it was our defense that cost us the game as you know, players play and coaches coach, It was really the coaches that put the players in that position, namely Greg Williams.
If you don't know Greg Williams.
He was our former defensive coordinator, right? He was fired.
What was it Monday, the day after the the upset? Not the upset, the absolutely ball drop of will win.
That win was in our hands.
We had grasping in our hands that went and Greg Williams off.
What is it not fourth down? Third down.
I believe it was decides to go cover zero Bloods on a Hail Mary situation with 13 seconds left, one of the most and again I played football for one year in seventh grade.
I'm not most technical person with coverages, man to man zone.
I'm I'm not like, um, not the best of those.
He runs a cover zero blitz where he's rushing.
Everyone trying to Basically, he was trying to exact Derek cars because they had no time outs.
Obviously, the game's over.
You sack him, but they're gonna hail Mary situation.
And you have one on one against all of their receivers.
And there's multiple layers.
I'm gonna dig into just this one play, right? The first one is obvious.
The touchdown, you give up the touchdown toe.
Henry rugs right now? Yeah, Henry rugs.
He ran a 4 to 7 in the combine.
And you want to go one on one with him? You know, he's other than Darren Waller.
Who is the tight end who had a monster day and again.
This has gone back to since the start this season.
You wanna have success against the Jets? Have your tight end be one of your best options passing the ball wise.
So this final play, we have Lamar Jackson.
He is, uh, ironically, a name of a quarterback on our team.
So don't get confused with the Baltimore Ravens quarterback, but he's a quarterback for us.
Well, Mark Jackson is guarding rugs and no safety over the top. No help.
Just write down the sideline.
You re let rugs just burn them, right? And so that's just one part of the play.
You can't have you.
I can't remember if you pressed up or not, or you just flat out just ran right past him.
If you pressed up, then I don't know what you're doing in that situation.
But if he just got burned, he just got burnt and he was exposed right there.
Right? So looking at that from the cornerback situation, re watching the play because, sadly, I I had to re watch it many times.
I was watching it live.
And I'll tell you, I was sort of in a conundrum right here.
Uh, well, of course I want the jet wanted the Jets to win, but I just know if the Raiders would have lost on the Jets, would have won of my basketball practice on Monday.
Would have been would have been tough, just to say the least.
I was kind of in the middle of Italian weather I was totally disappointed.
The Jets losing, which I'm furious about E. Thank you.
Ethan knows exactly what I'm talking about.
Hey, knows exactly how hard that and read us too, If he's in here.
Exactly how hard that Monday practice would have been if the Raiders lost to the Jets, Right? Yep.
So on one hand, I was like, He can't a side.
No, He did cancel Monday anyway.
So I was screaming, like, What are you doing on the other hand? Like Okay, we pull the jet.
We lost this game.
Okay, so that's the cornerback situation.
You just got beat. Absolutely.
Got burnt again.
I'm not the most technical coverages.
Who with a cover zero blitz.
You're sending basically everyone The blitz. Correct.
You have the linebacker.
If you re watch the play, as I've done multiple times, you have the linebacker standing and absolutely no man's land.
He's just in the center of the field.
He eventually presses up to the quarterback and Derek cars moving up in the pocket.
If you've seen the play, he moves up in the pocket and delivers like what? A floater over the top It wasn't even a drop back and he throws the doors.
He moves up in the pocket and just floats it into rugs.
His hand for for the touchdown.
He's supposed to come up now.
He was a quarterback spy.
That's basically what he was doing in the middle of the field.
He was playing a quarterback spy situation in a Hail Mary situation against Derek Carr 50 yards from the goal line.
I appreciate it, Daryl.
Appreciate that one.
So it just it makes no sense is because I know the conspiracies are, well, they did this on purpose.
And this is one of the reasons why I don't think it's on purpose because the Jets players just and this situation are so incompetent as our linebacker doesn't even rush the quarterback on a cover zero blitz.
Become a guide after what you did to see her after you be Seattle.
I think I'm about to become a Giants fan.
Um, our linebacker.
He had the sack right there.
If he if he comes up in the coverage and the proper defensive assignment that he's assigned right, so that's one reason why I don't think it's a, you know, a conspiracy.
We lost on purpose because our players just didn't play it right.
It's not just, you know, we got said Okay, Thio Lamar Jackson, Go get beat right here.
No, no one played that right? Finally, our former now defensive coordinator, Greg Williams.
That's just his m o.
I was listening toe.
What was it? Ryan Clark and all these other players on ESPN the next day? Talking about Why did Greg Williams called this multiple? People call this the stupidest, stupidest, stupidest call they've ever seen in football history.
Just watching it like, Why would you call a blitz on a Hail Mary situation? Brian Clark, who played with Greg Williams, said that that was just his m o.
He wants to end the game, showing you this is my defense and I'm going to sack you.
I'm going to sack you to end the game.
I don't know why he would have thought that he puts the Jets players who worked extremely hard for this win.
The Raiders have been a better team this season.
Obviously, they struggled of recently, but they've been a better team overall, correct and Now you just want to throw the game away to prove a point like, Yeah, I'm Gregg Williams and I'm going to sack you and do it my way to end the game.
And when I tell you it's his m o.
The Raiders actually talked about this this week.
They kept their tight end, Darren Waller, who is there by far, best pass catcher over 100 yards on the day.
I believe he scored a touchdown.
They kept Darren Waller.
They didn't let him go run down for a hell Mary.
They let him stay back and blocking for pass protection because they realized, This is Greg Williams we're going against.
He's gonna blitz here if you watch the play.
Darren Waller is blocking their tallest receiver.
He's blocking instead of going down to try and score touchdown to win.
So am I happy with Greg Williams firing? Absolutely, Um, granted, I think by the end of the year it would have been a clean house.
It would have been just a clean a house there in New York, as gays needs to be gone, Greg Williams needed to be gone.
He's already gone.
Gazes What? What's up next? Speaking of case, if I was reading, um, what was it? So basically, when the defense of coordinators, because gay at Gesar head coach, has no involvement with the defense civil defense at all, he's basically here.
I'm gonna work on the offense.
You could tell by our offense were what he's helping contributing, which is absolutely nothing, right.
Case has done nothing for the offense Gates says he hears.
And on his headphones headset, he wears Greg Williams call in the microphone toe.
I forget who's our communicator on the field.
Obviously, I believe a linebacker or Marcus may our safety, he says.
On the field cover.
Zero blitz, right And Gay said he was talking to an assistant coach or something and her blitz and was about to turn and say, like, What are you doing? And they already snapped the ball.
I don't understand why he wasn't paying attention to the game and listening in the headset, but it's just another bonehead mistake.
By Adam GAYS Azaz The season has been filled was the best way for the Jets to reset for next year like, who do they have to draft? Okay.
Obviously, my first answer is drafting wise and resetting.
Is Trevor Lawrence? Granted, I'm not the biggest Trevor Lawrence fan in the world.
Uh, of course, you watch cleansing games because they're on ESPN, primetime all the time.
But I'm not the biggest.
Especially after you got exposed in the national championship a couple of years ago or a year ago.
I want to say exposed, but just l s u plan from accordingly.
And LSE was just on a on a mission.
They were winning the national championship.
So I say Trevor Lawrence, because I think he's the best quarterback in the draft.
Justin Fields is really climbing.
My list is I really like Justin Fields.
We'll have to see what he does with Ohio State with a playoff and everything, but I really like Justin Fields, but Trevor Lawrence is my guy.
So that's why I believe the Jets should draft.
Obviously, I think, Oh, yeah, that's that's fair.
The past couple of Ohio State quarterbacks of not panned out well in the leak.
I mean, just look at Cardale Jones, who won the national championship with on the 2014 is playing in the X f l.
I believe, um J T. Barrett.
So yeah, that's fair.
Um oh, yes, speaking coaches.
Reset you go into is you Fire Adam Gates.
You've heard me talk about this for this is Episode 13 Empire Sports Talk 13 episodes.
I've called for Adam Gates to be fired.
Appreciate the phone finger.
I want Eric Behe me from Kansas City.
He I don't know how he didn't get interviewed or given a job last year.
He's the offensive coordinator for Kansas City, and this goes to hire college coach or NFL coach, offensive coordinator for the Chiefs.
He put the system around.
Granted, Andy Reid plays a big part, but behemoth play, uh, help put the system around Patrick Mahomes and look at how that deadly that offenses.
Obviously, I don't wanna automatically compare our offense with Trevor Lawrence Mohini toe the Chiefs offenses.
They put weapons around him.
We have yet to put weapons around our quarterback, as evident with Sam.
Donald believes with Sam with really legit pieces, and Donald could be a really good quarterback, but we have yet to do that so that Zatz my drink for the Jets.
We get Trevor Lawrence and we get on offense.
Offensive coordinator from the Chiefs, Eric Bohemia to set up and build an offense and a team around Trevor Lawrence make the best that he can for them.
So that's really my reset for the Jets next year, as the Jets cannot screw up this number one pick they can like as much as I come on here just saying, I really hope next Thursday I come on here for you know, finally, we can talk about a win.
I need the Jets ticket and number one pick.
So if the Jaguars win a game and they have two wins on the season, okay, the Jets can win a game, so they're still gonna leave for that number one pick.
Well, we need the number one pick because the Czech where's their selecting a quarterback, too? They have no quarterbacks there in Jacksonville.
So if the Jets somehow jet up the draft and, like somehow ruling this opportunity, I don't know what I can dio as because also Eric behind me, he is a high like he's a target.
Hi, target for many teams, and I hope the Jets land.
Um, I don't know if we can, but that's my dream for resetting next year behind me and Trevor Lawrence.
And then we'll as three years ago as the years ago, we will add pieces down the line.
So that's really my recap of the game on Sunday.
01 last thing to say about that if you didn't watch the game.
So of course, you've all seen the play where they throw it over the top.
They scored a touchdown with the final second final five seconds.
The play before we let.
Oh, my goodness.
What's his name? Not all shot. Jeffrey.
Um oh, my goodness.
Receiver for the rate, Uh, Raiders just blow past every single Jets defender.
He went right down the middle of the field and Derek are missed him.
He threw it long, and you're like, Oh, my goodness, that was their chance.
That was their chance to beat the Jets.
And the very next play, Derrick Carr steps up in the pocket, floats went up to rugs and they win the game.
So the judge deserved to lose just off those last two plays.
You know by themselves.
Um, it's just irritating to watch the Jets, and we're gonna have to watch, you know, moving to this week's game against Seattle.
Seattle's defense has not allowed a touchdown to a receiver in the last four weeks, right? They haven't allowed over 100 yards total from receivers in the last two weeks.
Right? These air evident with the Giants only scoring 17 points along with the Eagles, only scoring 17 points.
And you have the absolute beast of Jamal Adams in the safety position for the Seahawks.
And this is this is the revenge game for him.
Uh, I love Jamal Adams and he takes stuff personal.
You, if you think that the Jets coming to Seattle isn't something Jamal Adams is going to take personal.
I don't think you follow Jamal Adams.
He he takes every little thing is motivation to chip on his shoulder, and this is gonna be one of them, which it's gonna be scary, especially if he's playing well.
If he and I've talked about this before, Jamal Adams, he's not best in coverage.
He's best at rushing the quarterback.
If you watch Jamal Adams, he can rush the quarterback and get sacks all day long if he wants to.
I believe that's where he was angry with the Jets.
They wouldn't let him continue to do that.
They wanted him keep playing coverage, and Seattle's used him perfectly in that situation.
Every game you see something, another Jamal Adams sack.
He's just right, you know, lining up on the defensive line.
Quick speed for quick first step and he's getting to the quarterback consistently.
Eso I expect him to really try and get a couple sacks on Sam.
Donald, the Jets especially.
With our right, Uh, yeah, our right tackle.
Right guard. Excuse me. Being out.
You could see not Donald Adams just targeting that new right guard.
Eso Seattle's defense is gonna be really scary this week.
I'm glad that the Jets offense got somewhat going with 28 points, but I'm not sure I can keep it going, especially against the Seattle defense flipping size for Seattle.
Uh, he's already had 11 interceptions on the year, which is tying a career high in this season, and obviously we have plenty of mortgage aims to go.
You just wonder.
Appreciate the thumbs up you just wonder how he started off so hot.
Zero like zero turnovers in five games, maybe one interception.
These last games.
He's just been throwing multiple picks a game, you know, pick a game.
You wonder if you can try and get back on track against this depleted, just secondary.
As we're missing two safeties, we can see if the Jets force turnovers to get the offense.
I think the Jets, if they want any chance of winning this game, we're gonna have to force a defensive score, which is a lot harder than you know, a lot easier to ask for.
I think we'll need a defense of score, maybe a pick six, a fumble return if we want a chance in this game, because I don't give our offense too much of a chance just standing there and go toe for toe.
Even with a dif excuse me offense for Seattle, that's been wary these last couple of games.
We can't go toe to toe with them.
Let's keep it then.
Obviously, the stood on their team is D K.
Who are we going to guard DK back? If we could have Bryce Hall Garden.
I can't I can't believe the Giants beat him.
You guys were playing with Colt. Colt McCoy.
You guys beat the Seahawks in Seattle, which I honestly can't believe that happened.
That was probably the biggest shock in the past couple of weeks for me, because I I just marked that game up is Oh, that's the easy Seattle went, especially without Daniel Jones, but again, the Giants have been playing well recently.
So what? I believe they're my pick now for the NFC East easily, but back to D came back half way.
We don't have to say much about him.
The dudes, absolute stud, his yardage and completions.
I mean receptions.
The past couple games have been studied, but only a single touchdown in less four games.
And maybe look for him to get going a little bit.
I mentioned Bryce Hall in the Mark Jackson as potential matchups against him.
Potentially like to see Marcus May marks.
May is more of a bigger body.
Maybe press DK at the line.
I'm not sure how much you can do that, especially with the speed of D came back.
Kevin, Here's the biggest thing you can't forget about Tyler Lockett, Tyler Lockett in that game against try to lock it in that game against Arizona that they lost on Thursday Night Football here.
Oh, my goodness, the stats for him are amazing.
I don't remember off the top of my head over 200 yards receiving kind of lock.
It can really beat you if he needs to.
Eso we can't pay too much attention, ****.
A madcap because it's obviously are quarterbacks get burned.
Lamar Jackson got burned by rugs last week.
We can't have them go one on one with Tyler Lockett because Locke is gonna beat him.
You guys somehow kept Metcalfe in check.
You guys were able to keep rusting.
McCoy has always been, uh, hey had bounced around for a while in the league and hasn't really found good, but he might be a better backup quarterback than her.
I say Andy Dalton at this point, especially after Cowboys been playing from watching those games.
Has been a tough one, so coma coin might be a better back up then than Andy Dalton is, um, going back to Jamal Adams were quick Adam Gates at this quote about him.
Uh, this was in the context of Jamal Adams.
Time in New York.
I thought it was good, but obviously he felt different thistles before his practice.
The practice on Thursday.
I never had any poor interactions with him.
I thought everything was.
He was somebody I talked to a lot and communicated with which I find a flat out lie because I told you before, Gates has no interaction with the defense.
He wipes his hands clean with the defense, so I find that lie even.
Is Jamal Adams being your face of the franchise? I don't believe he had many conversations with Jamal Adams.
I think it's just another Adam Gates lie and finally always ended off with a talk about our Q B situation and Donald training partners.
Okay, we could look at Seattle, not Seattle.
Excuse me, Pittsburgh Steelers.
Big Ben's growing up in aged injuries.
Injury is not this season, but last season potentially.
Look, this is the one I'm looking at is Indianapolis Colts? They have both their backup and Philip Rivers, Will, Philip Rivers and Jacoby percent on one year deals.
They're paying Philip Rivers 25 million and also paying their backup Jacoby percent 20 million.
Maybe they try and move off of those contracts.
Get a cheaper, younger quarterback.
They can work around because they have good defense, good offense, align good receivers.
They're really a team that's a quarterback away from being a contender.
So the Colts, they could go that route.
I heard they could go a Carson Wentz Row.
What? To see how they decide.
You know, between the two, the 40 Niners could potentially be a suitor suitor.
It's obvious that Kyle Shanahan is ready to get off of Jimmy Garoppolo.
Was his quarterback? Yeah, Stafford expected? Yeah, especially with the retooling now in Detroit.
Fired Matt Patricia a couple of weeks ago.
A little over 30.
Obviously, uh, so Not too much left in his tank as, like, high level play.
But Stafford could be a good pick up for the Colts.
Niners for Jimmy G.
Obviously, they want to get rid of him.
And then the Bears with everlasting Is it Mitchell Robiskie? Or if or is it Nick Foles? Obviously, the bears don't even know between the two.
So we'll have to see what the Bears think about that for years on your need for colds.
Yeah, I think through the win now.
Mode. Uh, exactly.
I don't think they're in the win now mode or have the chance to win now with Philip Rivers, the quarterback.
I don't I'm not a Philip Rivers fan.
I don't trust Philip Rivers, especially.
He just throws the ball everywhere, tries to fit it in tight spaces.
You need a real quarterback and for the next four years, especially if they keep that defense intact.
Oh, for sure, Indianapolis could be a really good contender and, especially with the defense, could make a run against Kansas City.
I still think it's a Kansas City dynasty in these next Oh my goodness.
Years and years and years.
I'm just a huge Patrick, my home fan.
Well, I do think it is a the Kansas City Chiefs and then everybody else below it.
And, yeah, Philip Rivers.
He's making 25 million.
That's pretty good because he needs.
He has a lot of kids to take care of.
Uh huh, eso wrapping up on that.
Let's say how am I predicting this game? What's the score um, I going to say so we're playing in Seattle.
Seattle's defense coming off two straight.
Really good games for the Jets.
We score 16 points.
I think we get three field goals in touchdown.
Seattle I think Russell Wilson doesn't have the greatest day, but he gets spent sort of back on track.
Plenty enoughto beat the Jets, 24 16, 8 point when one possession ballgame.
But I don't think it will feel like that.
As the Jets will settle for multiple field goals.
I think they'll be able to drive a little bit, just looking at their offense from last week.
I think they could drive a little bit and get a couple field goals.
Three field goals to be exact and, yeah, finally, get 16.
I'm wrapping up here, too.
So for sure, stop by next week.
Appreciate you joining and you know perfectly on that note.
