Welcome SportsCastr News Tuesday Morning edition, and we're going over.
NFL Week 13 Monday Night Football games.
We're going to get to the first game.
Real quick, which was the Washington football team versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Washington handed the Pittsburgh Steelers their first loss of the season.
A four and seven NFC East team defeated the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.
Now, the way the Pittsburgh Steelers have been playing all year had many people wondering if they were actually overrated.
Yes, they were an undefeated team.
And, you know, as the saying goes, you are what your record says You are correct, but not always.
I mean, they found ways toe win in every game, which is something that is a big, huge, uh, eggs in their basket.
Because there's many games that Pittsburgh should have been.
Could have lost.
I mean, the Ravens game, the Jag wires.
There was multiple games where Pittsburgh it looked like they were going to lose this game.
And in this game, Washington saw what needed to be done and went out and did it.
Now Pittsburgh didn't help it all with, like seven dropped passes three or four of them from former Colts and Lions tight in Eric Ebron.
But let's just let's just say this.
Even though Ben Roethlisberger was 33 of 53 for 305 yards, two touchdowns in a pick, they needed that run game.
They needed the run game to get the pressure off of Ben Roethlisberger because that's all Washington did was pin their ears back.
I go after Ben and force him to throw the football early and often because they could not run the football.
They didn't even try to run the football.
They ran the ball an entire 13 times for a whole 21 yards.
All right, 13 times for 21 yards.
That's less than a yard and a half a carry on 13.
Not only could they not run the football, but they were like, Why even try? We'll just throw these little short, quick passes and use that as our run game, which I understand sometimes when 11 aspect isn't working.
You could throw the little quick passes to do that, but Washington was ready for that.
They play a lot of man press.
They played a lot of right up near the goal line, expecting too quick slant routes by your tight ends, expecting the little quick hitches by your wide receivers, expecting, um, like screen passes and flat passes to your running backs.
And they played this game very, very well, Very well.
Alex Smith, on the other hand, since he's been back, has been absolutely bawling.
I mean, my goodness, I said, Beginning of the year, Alex Smith should be quarterbacking the Washington football team If Washington.
Honestly, if Rivera honestly thought that Smith's leg was up, the holding it, he should be quarterbacking.
He pulled the trigger. He put him in.
Alex Smith has just been breath of fresh air for this Washington team now that they could throw the football.
That's allowing them to run the football more often.
But what's funny is they didn't even run it very often, either.
I mean, they ran it 21 times for I don't know, like 42 yards, 43 yards.
They got about a yard and a half about about two yards a carry, but which is better than what? Pittsburgh dig.
But Alex Smith? The one thing about Alex was he didn't turn the football over against this very aggressive Pittsburgh defense that is known that is absolutely known for sacks.
They got three sacks in this game.
Watt got himself the sack.
Stefan to it, got himself a stack.
Robert Splaine got himself a sack, and they had a few tackles for losses as well.
But the Steelers offense could not put up enough.
The Steelers have to put up more than 17 points to win football games.
Even with an aggressive defense like the Steelers have.
Washington, Washington's defense did not even come up with a sack this entire game.
As far as I know, I'm looking down the street.
They had some tackles for losses, but what they did do was forced incompletions.
What they did was kept.
Everything in front of them didn't allow the big play downfield.
That's the one thing that Pittsburgh has lived and died on.
They will chunk you to death with little short, quick passes, and then when you bring everybody up, they try to hit you with guys like Chase Claypool down the field for big plays.
But Washington was ready for that they played incredibly well.
Now, the question is, do the Pittsburgh Steelers.
What are they looking like now? I mean, I'm I'm curious because they've got some games coming up, and they're they're not gonna look, uh, they got a priest.
Pretty tough schedule ahead of them.
I mean, they got the bills that the Bengals, which is, but then they got the Colts and the Browns.
So the next three out of their next three other next four games are going to be tough games.
The bills look like a team that I mean, my goodness, if if the Steelers can't put up more than 17 points, the Bills were gonna blow them out because Josh Allen has the mobility to get out and run with the football.
That's just all there is to it.
The Bengals, I'm gonna I'm gonna say the Steelers will beat the Bengals.
I mean, their backup quarterback is just awful.
The Indianapolis Colts.
I mean, if Ben Roethlisberger had issues with this defense, the Washington defense, imagine what the Colts defense is gonna be able to do.
And Philip Rivers is getting the ball out incredibly fast.
In the last seven games, he's completing 6/66 a half percent of his passes in the last seven games.
14 touchdowns, four interceptions, okay, averaging over 290 yards a game.
And he's getting the rid of the football fast in around about his fastest.
What ven ven Rachael's burger leads the league in like 2.
2 seconds before getting rid of the football Rivers is right up there around 2.3.
Okay, so this is something that's gonna be tough to do.
And then you got the Browns, who they got to go to Cleveland and face a team that handled Derrick Henry and this Titans offense and just threw points up like nobody's business.
So, yes, Steelers have really tough schedule ahead of them and the Browns or not the Browns. I'm sorry.
They're tied right up there with the Giants in the NFC East.
Are you kidding me? Wow.
Let's look at the next game that was on the list, all right.
The next game, which was Buffalo and San Francisco, shot themselves in the foot multiple times.
They had Josh Allen pin back on a 3rd and 19, or a chance to get him third in 19, and then Alan ran out of balance through the football away.
They would hit him out of bounds.
My goodness, that's an automatic 15 yards in a first down, They bailed Buffalo out, all right.
Nick Mullins played very, very well.
He had two interceptions, and neither of them were really on him.
One of them was a past were in which brand and I.
You just bobbled the ball that went up in the air because he couldn't secure it on the second try, bringing it in.
He bobbled it twice and then got hit and the ball went up and got intercepted.
And on the next one, he threw the football.
And it was just an incredible, incredible play by Troy Davis White in order in reading the play, breaking on the football and outmuscling the receiver for the interception literally at the goal line.
This happened on the goal line, where, where the Niners were going to score a touchdown.
Okay, so the either of those interceptions really on Mullin's.
He was 26 of 39 316 yards and three touchdowns.
I honestly think Nick Mullins is the better quarterback for the San Francisco 40 Niners that Jimmy Garoppolo now Niners fans might disagree with me or argue with me on this, but Nick Mullins might be their quarterback next year, even if Garoppolo comes back healthy.
At least I would do that because I personally think that Nick Mullens is a better passer.
Then Jimmy Garoppolo.
Now they ran the football.
Both teams actually through the football very well.
Josh Allen, obviously still looking like Josh Allen out there.
32 of 4375 yards, four touchdowns for he is still out there trying like heck to say, You know what? I am M V P.
Why don't I get any nods for this? I get it.
You know, Aaron Rodgers is still playing out of this mind.
I get that Russell Wilson.
It's been kind of down lately, and then, you know, over there in the A F.
C West, you got this one guy, you know, for Kansas City, who's been playing ball in pretty darn good.
But Josh Allen has been playing pretty darn good, too, And it's weird because so many people said that Josh Allen last year was going to be a bust for Buffalo, but he's playing at an incredible level right now.
Devin Singletary carried the ball 18 yards for six or 18 times for 61 yards.
Josh Josh was really pressured.
I mean, the Niners played physical, tough defense.
They shot themselves in the foot a few times, giving Buffalo a few a few extra opportunities that they shouldn't have had, like encroachment penalties and things like that.
But they only got to him once, and that was a Dion Jordan sack.
They had a lot of pressures, but because of Allen's ability to be able to move in the pocket and free himself that that just it's really hard to bring someone like that down.
Mahomes, Watson, Allen, uh, Wilson.
These guys, they're they're they're so hard to bring down in the backfield.
Once you have them locked down, you gotta be able toe, hold your you're gaps and keep him boxed in.
But San Francisco was unable to do that.
There is one tiny flaw that I've noticed from Josh Allen.
One tiny fall this year so far.
By the way, Bull Runnings and Pauline, the Bulls fan, 99 thanks for joining here on SportsCastr.
Appreciate you being here.
But the one thing that I've noticed about Josh Allen is I get that he wants the big play.
He's got the weapons now, especially with digs and all of them.
But when you're flushed out of the pocket, he's still looking for that deep play over a. For sure.
First down, there was multiple times where I had noticed where he was flushed out of the pocket and he was running to his right.
And he was holding on to that ball looking for that deep past when the running back or a tight end was sat down open in the zone right in front of him, and he could have threw the ball to him and got a first down.
Or at least a massive chunk of yards.
You know, between six and eight yards, if not a first down.
But he wouldn't go that route, or he would go to that route as a last option, and then it would be too late, because the defense would then close in around that as they realized he was running out of room and then it would be an incomplete pass.
Josh needs to hit those open receivers when he sees them.
Not just go for the touchdown every every time.
It looks great on film.
What I'm telling you, efficiency is better than big place.
Alright, Those big place they'll come because as long as you're efficient, you're gonna force the defense to play closer.
And that's gonna open up those downfield opportunities.
So, Josh, take my advice.
Take that open receiver when you see him.
It will be a lot less stress on you throughout the game.
I promise you that.
Now, for the defense for Buffalo they were.
They were on it.
They were on it. This game.
Hi, Troy Davis White.
Like I said, both had those interceptions.
There was only one sack this entire game and that Waas San Francisco got the fat Buffalo's defense.
Not once sacked Nick Molins.
Not once, and there was only three tackles for loss in this game.
San Francisco was moving the football.
They just turned the football over and shot themselves in the foot on defense too many times.
That's why they lost this game.
This game should have been a lot closer than what the score predicts.
But, I mean, you are playing with a bunch of guys who started the year off either second or third string or not even on your roster, possibly on your practice squad.
Because all the injuries and stuff that you got on your team so well, it's just, you know, perspective.
