See Ellen as 50.
Well, hey, we're finally in September training camp just weeks away.
It's so close, we can almost see it.
The light at the end of the tunnel is here.
Lakers basketball is almost back.
Still plenty of topics to discuss as we get ready for the season.
Joining me is jazz king of Lakers Nation Jazz.
How are you doing, man? I'm doing okay.
I'm doing on doing all right.
We're finally getting down to the NFL season starting.
I'm looking forward to that.
We had our legalization fantasy draft on on Saturday for for the pool that we're doing.
I'm sure I'm gonna be one of the bottom bottom three finishers that also you know what the U boats people will cut things got a little bit Ah, little bit interesting today with the U. S. Game versus Turkey.
So, uh, it's a good time to get back into sports and looking forward to the NFL kicking off this weekend, of course, training camp just around the corner for the N B.
So exciting time.
One of best times a year for the sports fans, you know, I mean, compared to May ish, when you when you get into April, when you get into the playoffs and October when the ENDA an NFL is kind of in full swing already it's It's a great time to be able to sit on your couch and watch TV.
So that's what that's what I'm good at.
So that's what I'm looking forward to it.
Yeah, I mean, things feel like they're finally picking up, you know, you've got even for me.
The MLS playoff race is heating up. That's getting crazy.
You've got baseball getting ready for the playoffs to start.
We're gonna be watching the Dodgers, of course.
Dodger blue dot com.
Our sister site is absolutely killing it with their coverage.
They've been absolutely amazing.
And then, of course, you've got the NFL season like you mentioned.
We did our listener draft the other day? We had our Lakers Nation podcast listener draft, and right now I am actually multitasking a little bit here.
Jazz, because the Lakers nation crew is doing a fantasy football draft.
We threw together enough of us to do a draft, and so were the tail end of our draft.
Right now, I'm actually completing that as we're talking here.
In fact, as I speak, someone just drafted Karim Hunt.
We'll see how that one actually works out for them from going off the board.
It's been a little bit of madness, but whatever.
I like my team. I like my chances.
You mentioned you mentioned fever.
You mentioned the near disaster that was the FIBA World Cup tournament.
Team U S A versus Turkey goes into O T.
It was shocking.
It was a message got up early to watch it.
What were your takeaways from that? Before we start diving into the Lakers, we'll have Turkey would've hit some free throws.
It would've been game so lucky that the Turkish players kind of frozen at the free throw line.
But you know what this is? This is kind of what happens.
And you saw this in at the 02 feeble world Championship.
04 Olympics on the old six World championship again, where the U.
Didn't win despite having pretty damn good rosters.
I mean, they came back in 2008 completely stacking and took the took the gold there in Beijing.
But, you know, it's it's hard to bring together a team, and it's hard to really get everybody on the same page and develop the chemistry in a short amount of time.
And you look at this.
This isn't the typical high end players you've seen coming in from the n b A and, you know, being Canadian myself.
The Canadian national team moment.
Everybody was talking about how much promise it would have going into into this and hoping to qualify for the games next year in Tokyo.
And they lost 17 eh? NBA players invited.
I think they're down to like three or four on the roster right now on a bunch of guys pulled out with injuries.
So I think we're starting to see throw players, maybe again, starting to shift away from caring about international basketball.
What sucks on a global scale.
But I mean, on a business level, the NB owner's gotta protect their investment.
I mean, looking at this outcome, right? I saw this game and I threw out the tweet on Twitter right after the game ended, because my first thought was, This is why this is exactly why we're seeing some of the top guys in the game dropout from at least from Team USA.
I can't speak for Team Canada.
I do know that there were guys who dropped out of there, but the expectation on Team USA is you're not only are you going to win, but you're going to dominate.
And if that doesn't happen, what's wrong with you? What did you do wrong? People are questioning Team USA right now, even though they want in overtime.
And yes, they were fortunate to do so right now.
Turkey had made a couple of free throws, then that changes everything.
This goes the other way, but they wanted a close game and people are already raising eyebrows, pointing fingers at these Team USA players and Jason Tatum got hurt.
Ah, guy who is who is very much needed by his team.
The Boston Celtics.
He rolls his ankle.
He's got training camp just weeks away.
Who knows if he'll be 100% so far? It sounds like it sounds pretty good coming out of the team U.
S A locker room, but still, that's exactly what's keeping guys from going because there's no it's.
It's high risk with no reward.
If you go and you dominate, that's what you're expected to dio.
And what if you get hurt? Is a player that's rough to know.
You might miss part of the NBA season.
And can you imagine, as a team owner, your your star player goes down in a game where you receive nothing for it.
It's It's a tough sell, I think.
I think that's the element that we're seeing here now.
Yeah, and that's where it's at.
I mean, these guys are making so much money, you're you know you're investing $200 million in a guy for a five year contract.
You wanted to be able to play all five minute.
I mean, you know, if he gets hurt on the job, then that's fine.
You have a contingency plan to deal with that, but you look at it.
And Mark Cuban was seeing this for this back when when Nash originally went back to the maps, uh, for his or when he was with the Mavs, They're after he got treated from Phoenix.
Part of me, it was he was.
He didn't show up.
I mean, the 2000 Olympics.
And again, I don't expect a lot of people know this, but I mean, the 2000 Olympics.
Canada had had a great showing, finished seventh and in Sydney in the Olympics.
And then coming into the old four games, nationals gone.
He wasn't allowed to play any more Steve as dominate that Olympics for the Canadian team.
And then you saw him get to 2004 and he wasn't allowed to play.
And Mark Cuban famously said that Dwight Powell's another Cajun guy who not you pulled out.
He's like, I don't wanna play and for this it's like a you're having this in the off season before the Olympics.
So some of these guys, they're going a full season, you know, a personal training camp with Team USA, play another season in the N B A, and then you got the Olympics coming up That's a lot of basketball and knowing that you know about sports science and kind of had to keep guys fresh and how to keep guys healthy.
It's just a different era now, so I think you're going to start.
Maybe in the next you know, to Olympics, you'll start to see it be again, that you're going back to amateurs, true amateurs in terms of going back with college kids inside a pro contract.
I mean, I think that there's gonna be so it's in the team.
USA doesn't win this feeble World Cup, Okay? And then heading into the Olympics, though, the big stars come out right.
The Olympics Next summer, it's James Harden.
Its it's all the main guys they d winds up going and playing after he resigns with the Lakers.
Of course, fingers crossed made all these big stars show up right and the Team USA dominates.
I think this feeble thing will be for gotten assuming that, you know, look, Team USA can still win this.
That's not out of the question.
But if if Team USA loses and then they go into the Olympics and they dominate that when then kind of this this fever thing.
Well, the feeble World Cup will get overlooked, right? But if this turns into a disaster this summer and that spirals in the negative publicity for next summer and then they don't win at the Olympics, then I think I would go the other way.
I think that instead of bringing back the amateur players, there's gonna be sort of a resurgence from USA Basketball.
Kind of like the last time they took the bronze.
And then suddenly all the top guys said, Okay, we'll come to the rescue and they joined forces and then they we went back.
We had, you know, the dream team all over again.
I conceded spiraling that way, too.
I could see something where suddenly there's more pressure to fix this.
And so you get the top top guys coming.
Should things not go the way they want in the Olympics.
Yeah, that's what I like, I said, That's what we saw happen in that 2008 team was stacked.
I mean, you had you know, Coby on it? Of course.
Anthony Bucking machine.
Carmelo Anthony, at that point, amazing as an international player, right? I'm not gonna even get.
We're not gonna entertain the fact that anybody want Ask if he wants to be back.
The Lakers? I don't know.
Hey, that was actually something popped up today was Carmelo Anthony is trying to convince teams that it wasn't him.
It was He was just a scapegoat in O.
In Houston, in order to try to convince teams like the Nets and the Lakers.
And, uh, there's one other team in there and I can't remember it off top my head.
But but yeah, Lakers once again getting connected you to Carmelo Anthony.
Why? I don't I don't know, but it's happening, Bell, the LeBron I think the LeBron thing is, is, you know is gonna play into that to the connection between the fact that they're such good friends.
But okay, when you look at Carmelo, if you're a team like the Nets, where you don't have Kevin Durant this year not going, probably win a championship, and I mean, it's still pretty good young nucleus around Kyrie Irving, would you take a flier on a guy like on a guy like Carmelo Anthony just for the for the sake that he could bring some offense off the bench.
I mean, the Nets still have so many young players.
I'd be a little bit concerned.
If you're worried at all about about Mellows character.
Is he going to sort of infect that locker room with that? Is he gonna be, too? You know, ball, furs or ball? Dominant? Is he going to do any of those types of things? And look, I think he's Mawr in line with where Dwight Howard is right now, which is like, Look, give me a job, please, and I'll do whatever you want.
I'll do whatever it takes to stay in the game.
I've been humbled off.
I expect mellow to be more along that lines.
But if there's any question, I could see the Nets turning him down.
Otherwise, I guess it does make some kind of sense to have Ah, high scoring, small forward to turn to off the bench for Brooklyn.
But again, he's gonna have to convince teams that he's changed and that's what.
But Howard had to do and he was successful.
We'll see if Carmela and that he could do the same thing.
Yeah, you're right because I think that you know a team like the Knicks, A team like the calves.
You know, maybe a team like the Bulls doesn't really benefit you to bring in Carmelo Anthony.
The Nets like ranch into a bunch of young guys.
But I think when you look at the Knicks, Cavs, the Phoenix Suns don't really have any playoff aspirations.
So you've made me not want to take a flier on him.
But, I mean, we see it hasn't worked with two veteran stops with that he had with O, K. C.
But, I mean, I think that a team maybe could take a potential flyer on him.
I just I don't see it happening.
I think Dwight Howard has a different skill set that he brings that.
Then Carmelo does, and Carmelo's one great skill just seems like it's diminished.
So I don't I don't see him getting another chance.
So, please, we know we were asked about 1000 times this season.
I don't see Carmelo being in the purple and gold.
I certainly hope we don't have to be subjected to that either.
Yeah, I I agree with you there.
I don't think it's actually going to happen, but yes, I could do without any more.
Is Carmelo coming to the Lakers? That's for sure.
Um, let's get back to this this fever thing.
So the other thing that popped in my head is are we fortunate that Kyle Kuzma is not there right now playing for Team USA? He had to withdraw due to injury or these.
That was the story out there that he was hurt.
He had done something with his ankle.
Is it actually a good thing that he's not their given what we're seeing right now, I think it was a good experience for him to be a part of the training camp.
You get to see kind of and work with pop a little bit, maybe on some individual stuff that he could improve on because when you when you got Steve Kerr and Greg Public Gregg Popovich, are you working for? You know what the hell happened there? But, uh, you're you're kind of working with that you're able to you're able to grow as a player.
You still a young guy and maybe get some feedback that he wouldn't have gotten from Frank Vogel and just a different set of eyes and years for you there.
So I think it's beneficial for him to be a part of the experience again.
Do you? Would you rather have Kalla, Cosmo win a gold at the fee, but World Championship or B A B A.
You know, a meaningful contributor on the Lakers team where he might be, you know, the third or fourth best off? Yeah.
I mean, that's that's the question.
I mean, look, will the Wood.
The feeble experience have given him confidence heading into the Lakers season, and obviously we'll never know the answer to that.
But the same time you're not risking what just happened to Jason Tatum routine play.
It wasn't like he did anything crazy, didn't hurl himself to the floor anything.
He was running down the court and happened to step on someone's foot and rolls his ankle.
I'm kind of glad that Kyle Kuzma is not in that situation, though he's already sustained a what we believe is a minor injury.
I'm kind of glad that Karl Kruse was not in that situation because he's gonna be so important for the Lakers.
So I think there is a silver lining to it, to him, not being there, but again overall.
I mean, look, it would've been nice for him to be there.
Do they defeat Turkey with Kyle Cruise Mount there in regulation? I'm gonna say yes. Okay.
Don't leave any kind of clues, but but But you know what? All in all, I think he's still got the experience out of it.
Now we can bubble wrap him.
He can go and he can do what he needs to do to get ready for the NBA season.
Yeah, and that's exactly.
And I think that's where unless the top end players start like you mentioned, that things go terribly wrong for Team USA next year at the Tokyo at the 2020 Games.
I just don't see the benefit anymore.
Tohave the n b A players.
As an owner, I'm looking at it from that perspective. The fan.
I want to see the best versus the best in the international competition.
Like the World Cup, Olympic hockey are awesome to watch a sports fan.
But you know, in the basketball, I just don't see.
I don't see the MBA owners being okay with this, and maybe that's one they renegotiating the C B a that look.
There's no there's no benefit to us with the game's already global as it is, you kind of maximize the marketing that you're getting from the embassy.
So trying to get the Olympic thing going like they did with Yao Ming and injury, that's time with the Asian boom game, especially basket popularity.
I just don't see it happening going forward.
Maybe in the next.
Like I said, 4 to 8 years.
Yeah, it is a big risk for teams and owners to take the have your guys go play means we see the same thing in soccer, right? We see guys.
In fact, that's happening right now.
And you know there's club teams around the world that are looking at their players that are going on playing for their their their countries and just holding their breath and hoping that that guy doesn't get hurt, because if he does there, they're in a bind, moving forward and you know it. Basketball.
The effect is even greater than it is in a sport like soccer.
If you lose a star, you're in a really, really big trouble in basketball, so so we'll see We'll see where this all winds up going.
We'll see it with the reaction to Team USA is going to be if they if they come up short, which is looking like a very real possibility here, why would you want to move on to the mail bag? Let's talk about that real quick because I've got a comment that came in from G s Will have always throws out some great comments, give us a five star rating, which is great, by the way, guys, the way that we're doing this is if you go on to apple podcasts and you give us a five star rating, preferably we would appreciate that anyway, on.
And then you go ahead and fire off your in your review.
You can fire off a comment question whatever will make sure that we address it, especially if it's something that could springboard us into a topic.
So if you have a question that I want to ask, go ahead, fire it in there and I'll make sure that we get to it.
But GS will as hey said, Hey, Trevor, I'm still here enjoying your show.
Glad you're here joining us I like to comment on the Dwight Howard signing.
I have the same view as Denise Jones, Denise and I am the last show.
We're talking about this.
I was on the fence before that.
And you know that.
Can that can hurt us.
This is it for Howard.
He, uh he knows if he doesn't put all into his game, he has done in this league.
Hello, Big Three.
He's hit rock bottom.
Once you hit bottom, you either get buried or you pick yourself up.
He knows if he keeps doing the things he was doing, it's over.
That's the definition of insanity.
I'm sure he'll bounce back.
Sorry for Boogie.
And I'm pulling for him.
Keep up the excellent work.
So what Gs Will is basically bringing up here? Jazz is this idea that Denise and I were talking about the last show and that's that there's something universal about what Dwight Howard is doing.
We can all we can all be upset with Dwight for the way that his last longer stint went but be tend to get behind the guide that has his back against the wall and is out of options and has nothing but himself to rely on right.
That guy, that is, is fighting that struggle that we all identify with the fight against father time, right? He's raging against the dying of the light and all of that.
We can all identify with that. Certainly.
And so you almost wonder how quickly this is going to swing for Dwight Howard.
Are Lakers fans going to get behind Dwight Howard faster than I ever imagined they would prior to him actually signing? I think it's gonna be an interesting, dynamic toe keep an eye on this season.
You know, I think it just depends on what he does.
And I think this is gonna be on completely 100% on Dwight Howard now if he comes in and is a contributor to this team and by contributor Amina values baby playing top nine top 10 minutes in terms of rotation and he you know he's out there like I said, just doing his job.
10 12 14 minutes, and I, depending on the matchup, could beam or could be a DNP CD.
We don't we don't We don't know what Frank Vogel's thinking there, but I think if he's able to come in, be a good defender, be a good rebounder and playing hard and not causing any drama and not being, you know, treating three things like a soap opera and fern up all around the locker room he's been famous for, Then then I think that's not a metaphor.
That is legitimate, You know.
He's keeping flatulence, the FDA, so I don't want him.
And that's where I think that it depends on how we handle themselves.
So you're mentioning that, you know, he rock bottom.
And then the commenter was saying that a CZ well that, you know, going from rock bottom.
It depends on how he's gonna bounce back.
And you look at Carmelo.
We talked about a little bit a while ago on the show.
He wasn't ableto handle himself mentally, But I think if he comes out and ends up not playing well and being a bit lax, a daisy ical, especially on the defensive end, fans are gonna turn on him real quick.
If it depends on what he does on the floor, if he is providing something positive out there that I think people will get behind him.
If not, then there's gonna be certainly a counter push that have, you know, people who will be upset with him.
I think that's going to happen.
There's a picture that was going around actually of Dwight Howard, and he was getting a workout in with with Quinn Cook, who I'm really high on, I think somebody that we're gonna talk about later on in the show.
But in this picture, Dwight Howard is wearing a shirt.
It's a purple shirt and it's a It's his own silhouette flexing on this shirt, and it's This is this.
I don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing, but it says the return in Lakers script like this group that the Lakers use if you happen to be watching the Lifestream, I've got that same script on my shirt right now on my shirt That says L.
He's using that Laker script and says the return on this purple shirt and it's the silhouette of him flexing showing off his biceps.
Um, I don't know what you think of that, Jess.
It's like it's like in music like bands don't wear their own shirts.
You know whether it was on stage, please.
Most don't, you know, is that I almost feel like he's kind of doing that a little bit like, I don't know.
Is this just a marketing campaign? Are what make it probably doesn't mean anything.
It's just a shirt, but still, it's a little interesting.
It's limited edition, man.
He's got the only one in the world, so you might think it's what? Towards something you want.
I don't I would never wear my own shirt.
I, of course not have in mind you if I'm good enough to have my own shirt, so I'll give him that.
But, um, yeah, I don't get what he's thinking with this.
This kind of stuff don't get me wrong.
It's not gonna leak over to on the court stuff, at least, I hope.
But I mean, I look at him and I'm like, What are you thinking, man? The return of what? A shadow of your former self like. Get it together.
I started doing a little bit of math, better decision making with what you're doing, but that's on the court or with your wardrobe, man.
I mean, I guess I guess pro wrestlers, where their own shirts all the time right is like like a marketing thing.
The big baller brand they Which is, which was kind of all in the same vein of pro wrestling, that overhyped, you know, self promotion.
They were wearing their own stuff, But other than that, I mean, you don't see too many guys like wearing a picture of themselves when they're sure.
No, no, he's a different dude.
I I wish him the best that I really do.
I hope that he would say, I hope you wanted finding success.
I hope that the Lakers can, uh, can be a place for him to revitalize his career, that he can find a new role as a as a role player as a word.
Somebody who can just come off the bench, perhaps, and do the dirty work and get the job done.
Because, like I said, there is something that we can connect with it in his current struggle.
And you know what? If he doesn't get it now, it's It's probably not happening exactly, and I think you hit the nail on the head.
I know we talked about this a lot.
The last show, too, is we want to see him succeed.
And you want to see somebody who, like you, mentioned where they kind of go down in their life on baby made mistakes, Whether that's career or their personal life, you want to see him bounce back and learn from their mistakes.
So as I said, you know, when he first originally asked me the question our friend's gonna be this is completely what Dwight Howard gets out of this experience is gonna be what Dwight Howard puts into it.
It's an old cliche, you know what I mean? So I think if he's able to, if he's able to channel his energy and just say, Hey, you know what, I'm just a part of this.
I'm not the biggest part of this machine.
And LeBron and 80 they're gonna do everything I think they'll be.
He'll be all right, but, um, we're in your own shirt. Damn, I don't know.
That's forgivable in my book right now.
Come on, the return.
Look, let's let's give a shout out here to our comment section on the Lifestream on sportscaster at Laker Fan Mike's that love the show.
Trevor, keep up the great work.
Is Dwight attending Camp LeBron in Las Vegas? I would assume so.
He's part of the team now.
He seems to be around the facility quite a bit.
I wouldn't imagine that.
He's gonna He's gonna skip it.
That certainly wouldn't be a good impression.
I mean, he said he's gonna be on his best behavior and then, you know, bow out of camp LeBron.
And in Vegas, I don't think that's gonna happen.
I I think that he's gonna be there, you know? I haven't confirmed it.
Don't haven't heard anything, anything concrete.
But I would have to imagine that he'll be there.
And then you know that again.
You want to show your teammates.
You serious? You want to show that you're that you're committed and you're ready to do your job? Well, here's your first chance to screw this up right away.
Yeah, just show up and you can do whatever you want.
A nighttime, right? Just show up.
Well, it's Vegas.
I mean, you know what? Maybe you don't want to tell Dwight.
He can do whatever, you know.
No. Todo biggest.
Yeah, he will as it may. He's never really.
But as you had, anything happen up, Not really.
Right off the court has been okay, for the most part in turns out of the most part.
But still, I mean, look, it's Vegas like, Yeah, I mean, anybody in trouble in Vegas.
That's why I stay away from me.
Hey, speaking of unfortunate incidents, so javale McGee in the air A negative thing.
You're really unfortunate here.
JaVale McGee. His house was burglarized.
Hey, lost about.
Apparently a couple of saves were actually stolen out of his house on he lost about $200,000 worth of cash and items, including what his championship rings with from the Golden State Warriors and those iconic goggles that he was wearing in the postgame celebration.
Those and there is Well, you know what? Sometimes people suck like that's that's That's awful.
You know, you could say, Oh, they're athletes to make millions of dollars And what whatever.
You know, what? Like there's value, their sentimental value to those things that he had in addition to clearly ah, lot of monetary value as well.
Um, sometimes, man, just just the things happen and It's unfortunate, and you just wonder why, why people do stuff like this to other people.
Yeah, you're you're seeing, obviously the crappy part of human beings.
I think with that.
And I like you, mentioned I mean, you probably have some old like, I feel like if you go in my wardrobe, I have, like a T shirt that's like 12 years old.
I have no business wearing.
I don't wear it in public, But I mean, it's just like my home shirt.
You know what I mean? If anybody saw you get rid of that, you can buy another one of those for $10 if you really want to.
You know, it's just my shirt, man.
You know what I mean? Like I get rid of it.
Imagine that with it.
With a championship ring, I think it's replaceable.
Joe Lake up in them are printing money up in Northridge, California.
I don't think they'll be happy to put me up for that, but like I like you mentioned the Gago's whatever they find out, he's going back story to it.
So that's unfortunate for him on again, like you mentioned people, man, it's it's It's the crappy part of society.
We've seen a lot of that Go on.
Uh, especially is a boom of the Internet.
You're seeing a lot more of the negative side of people.
So let me deal with Atkinson's for JaVale is maybe get little better security system.
Maybe have you have a better alarm or whatever going on in your home? But in all serious I mean, that's Ah, that's a crappy thing to go through for any one man.
And hopefully jail.
Hopefully, the police are able to track down whoever has it and and maybe get those goods back for JAVALE.
I do want to get into Alex Caruso, who I had a kind of a week thing happen to him, and now he's getting drug tested because of it s so we'll talk about that in just a moment.
But first I need to talk about our sponsor bet Online, not a G.
So baseball season is obviously in full swing.
The playoffs are ramping up.
We're all anxiously eyeing the playoffs.
Uh, and I've been watching a ton of Dodger baseball because again of Dodger blue dot com, our sister site for Lakers Nation, that is absolutely tremendous effect.
They're the number one doctor site, single team Dodger site in the world now, which is amazing in a huge credit to Matt and Daniel and all the guys over there that I need to try to beat in fantasy football.
But this week I've been watching the Dodgers just like every week.
But wait, can you believe NFL preseason is underway in the season? Is almost starting? We're just a few days away to celebrate another season kickoff.

Jess, I don't know if you saw this, but there was this.
You're going around of Alex Caruso and I'm assuming I know you're not huge in the superhero movies, but have you seen Captain America when he first becomes Captain America have seen those those pictures when he's first like that bulked up, you know I'm talking about They've been Somebody went and Photoshopped a picture of Alex Cruz and and don't get me wrong Alex Russo was in tremendous shape anyway, right? He just is.
But somebody took a picture of Alex Caruso working out and basically made his body look like Captain America really like post super soldier serum.
The door opens and he's got that body, right? I mean, he's just ridiculously shredded.
He looks like he's put on like we talk about everybody, puts on 10 to £15 of muscle.
He looks like he's put on like 30 to £40.
Okay, it's Alex Caruso, just completely ripped, shredded and looking like he is just going to destroy worlds.
Well, it's Photoshopped.
And Alex Russo today posted on Instagram that he suddenly got a completely random drug test from the D A.
They apparently someone a picture going around decided, huh? Maybe we should give a little drug test.
Alex Caruso, who is suddenly as big as I don't know.
Hulk Hogan Proclamation.
I would give me, uh, give a drug test to check for DNA test for H G H.
And anything else you could you could find out if you look like that.
I remember seeing that the photo, too.
At first I was like, Oh, damn.
Like, is that for real? That I was like, No, you can't get away.
It's impossible to get them.
But like Ivan Drago? Yeah, just a genetically altered, more free coming out or something like that would be crazy if Alex Caruso was that big.
I don't know that.
Help him on terms in terms of the basketball court.
But, you know, I look at him and I think that's what we should go in from now on.
And he is Captain America to everybody here right now.
The Lakers fans around the world.
So let's just give him the nickname.
Now. I just gotta go.
Yeah, There you go.
We got at least something good came out of it, right? Move over, Randy Coach or exactly Alex Caruso is now a captain.
Ok, well, we're gonna roll with that this season. Alex Caruso.
Uh, speaking of ah, of Lakers guards Quinn Cook so quickly because I said he's in that picture with which Dwight Howard he's been working out.
There's a video out there of him hitting 25 threes in a row.
I'm starting to I don't know if it's just me, but I'm starting to transfer my excitement over to Marcus Cousins to Quinn Cook.
I'm starting to look at him.
I think that's what can this guy be in this? The guy who would like Alex.
Alex Caruso went undrafted.
And don't get me wrong.
I'm still thrilled about Captain America Alex Caruso, but I'm starting to look a queen. Coconut thinking cash.
How good can this guy be in the Lakers system with LeBron James? You know, I've been watching some of his film with the Golden State Warriors.
Man, this guy, this guy really has something here.
He has some legit, eh? NBA skills.
And he could doom or than just shoot.
You know, he's a great shooter.
He can run a pick and roll. He can run an offense.
He's a better passer.
I think people realize I'm looking at this guy.
They commended the Lakers Really get a steal here, Jess.
What are your thoughts on on Queen Cook? Am I crazy to kind of take that that excitement about cousins and push it over on the Queen Cook? Is it just the shiny new toy effect? I feel like I might be getting a little bit too fired up here about Quinn Cook.
I have to say that, Yes, you are getting a little bit just lining up for my liking for good.
But I think that what he showed for the where's last year he had a bit of a decrease well compared to how much he was playing in 2017 2018 minutes were down eight minutes a game.
But overall, his production was pretty damn good last year.
You know what I mean? I mean, you look at what he was able to do with stats wise and put up seven points a game.
I think that's what you're looking for from him, and I don't think you're gonna ask him to come in and be a complete difference maker 82 times.
That's completely unrealistic, and I just don't see that happening.
But I think for Quinn Cook.
If you could look at him and saying, All right, you know what? This is your fourth year going into professional basketball and you know, try and take a leap and show yourself to be an everyday contributor, not in everyday superstar.
Been everyday contributor.
But if you look at what he what he can and can't do like you mentioned, I think offensively and he had some you had some nice highlights to, especially against the Raptors in that in the finals.
But after Durant went down the second time, too, you played pretty well and you help that team win.
I think it was Game five right in in Toronto, where they came back and won.
Look, I'm looking at himto bring some much needed three point shooting to space the floor.
I think that, you know, you mentioned that, but that's all he could do.
If you can come in and again, you're looking at Dwight Howard type minutes where you're anywhere between 12 maybe 18 and on a good night, you can get 24 or 25 so I think he's gonna have to be a contributor because he has shown that he could do it.
I would rather have Quinn cook out there than raging on Rondo.
I think that's where he's gotta come in and her that.
But it's been said that bar nice and high.
They're jazz walking way.
We talked about this.
I mean, if Bradley is hurt and still kind of in the same boat, that he's been the last couple of seasons where his performance has been diminishing a bit because of the Knicks that that he has, then you know you want to see Quinn could get that opportunity.
And you we talked about this before.
He stinks defensively, so that's something he's gotta clean up.
Yeah, that's the one thing that's really holding me back because you look at you, look at his offensive game.
This is guy you can kick the ball to.
He's deadly from behind the arc, but he's got just a ball handling skills to wear on a close out.
He can attack it.
He can put the ball on the floor, he can pull up and he's pretty good at hitting that jumper.
You can also hit that the pick and roll not great getting old the way the rim doesn't have a whole lot of explosiveness.
I'm sure he can dunk.
But in the highlights and things that I have watched and the clips I watch, I've yet to see him do it.
He's not that kind of explosive athlete, but this guy's such an amazing shooters in the 97th percentile purse energy as a as a shooter.
So that's that's incredible that he could do that.
But then the defensive end.
He is almost Rondo level.
Bali on defense as a guard in terms of is defensive reading, it's not.
It's really, really not pretty.
He was was not good as a defender with the Golden State Warriors.
And that's where I wonder if he was 100 12.
1 for defensive rating.
Rejoin Rhonda was about 113.
So we're talking about Quinn Cook.
Rage on Rhonda like right there.
That scares me. Absolutely.
But let me ask you this is he in the mix to be considered for the starting point guard spot, assuming the Lakers don't go with the supersized lineup with LeBron and Danny Green and Cosma and Veil and 80 if they do go with a smaller guard.
Easy in that conversation.
And you know that Almost that way, we're gonna say point guard by definition.
But you know, when you look at what it's gonna be just in terms of the team, you're probably looking at somebody who's the two, right? And I think you're gonna run.
LeBron basically isn't a factor one.
And and I think that second spots wide open.
I do think Danny Green's gonna start.
He's a professional, consummate vegetable, coming in shape, ready to go.
And so you're looking at that to spot.
It's like you got a B.
Bradley, you got Quinn Cook.
You know, maybe Alex Russo comes into camp in and comes in guns a blazing in America.
You know, something's up.
Yeah, he likes things up and he gets a chance.
So that's where I think that Quinn Cook does have a bit of a chance to get into the into the starting role.
Do I see it happening? Maybe.
I mean, that's a hard thing to answer right now.
I think you're gonna have to see who l plays who.
And you know the competition for that.
That last starting spot.
I think it's gonna mean a lot going into camp, and that's something that's kind of, uh, going to start getting talked about more and more as we get closer to the season.
Yeah, I look at a look of the guards that have had success alongside LeBron James. It's usually not.
It's more of your Derek Fisher type guard, your guy who plays off the ball.
Somebody else's the initiator, knocks down some big shots and complain. Good defense.
Queen Koken do the first part of that.
He can knock down some big shots, but the defensive side isn't there.
So that's where I think.
You know, a guy like like Alex Caruso, who plays just a scrappy physical brand of defense, he may have Ah, leg up on him.
They're particularly gets cruises bigger.
He's 65 Quinn Cook, stir, say two on.
Then you've got, Of course, Avery Bradley, who was also 62 but has crazy long arms.
And so he makes up for that a little bit and has a reputation as being a really good defender.
I would have to think those guys are probably ahead of him, but again, if you go into camp, and Quinn Cook is very much heading into the prime of his career.
Um, I can't say it's completely impossible.
Like if he if he even gets up to being an average defender just a little bit, just just be an average defender.
His shooting is so good that it might be tough to keep him off the floor, knowing how much defense is there gonna have to focus on LeBron James and Anthony Davis? Yeah, and then that's where that's where I think you mentioned.
I think he's got a leg up on those guys in terms of the skill set he brings and being able, because if you look at the Lakers, we have LeBron can kind of get whatever shot he wants whenever he wants a D's in the same boat.
And then where do you really get somebody else in the perimeter as a true threat? I mean, you look at Kuzma, I like Cruz.
Is game a little bit more where he's not.
I mean, not taking a ton of spot up standing in the corner, taking three's buried.
He's able to create a little bit, but I think in terms that traditional guard and you know, we're looking at a smaller guy.
I think Quinn Cook's the one who brings the most in that aspect.
Like you mentioned that defensive rating last year, I think was 112.
112 point one in 2018.
So that, that is that is like, really, really bad.
Yeah, you're like, you're like a a sieve defensively.
So you want to definitely try and improve on that.
And I think again, that's where it's gonna be up to him and the work he puts in.
But having Thio having the benefit a plane with a guy like LeBron James and getting to learn off somebody like him, I think could be beneficial.
And you might see him start to improve.
Maybe as you get towards the midpoint of the season as well.
Yeah, that's true.
Once he gets used to it.
I mean, look, he got plenty of open looks with Gold State Warriors.
There's no question playing alongside guys like Curry guys like Durant, Draymond Green, who confined you, Clay Thompson.
That's a good situation for him to be in, and he spent a lot of minutes with the second unit, But still, he's a guy who can come in and fill a role for the Lakers.
I want to see him succeed, want to see him really fixed things defensively because I think he is.
His ceiling offensively is so high because of what he's doing, what he brings to that side of the ball.
If he could even be OK defensively, then he'd be.
He could be an incredible find for the Lakers, but again, you got to be Avery Bradley.
You got to beat Alex Caruso and look even the non holdout version of Alex Cruz.
Oh, I don't know if I can pick against him at this.
Has a little time.
We bet against him.
He just proves us wrong.
It's going to be really fascinating, and you notice I'm not even mentioning Region Rondo's name in there, But we can't say with 100% certainty that he's not going to at least be a consideration, right? I mean, well, I think that's statistically he shouldn't be.
Yeah, there's no reason, he said.
He stinks defensively, right? And I think I think Rondo handsome.
He could hit the potential to have some great moments, you know? And you've seen that from him like we saw last year.
Yet the big games in terms the assist, the buzzer beater against the Celtics.
But I mean consistently, your you want someone to come in and earn that spot earned those minutes.
And I think you look at somebody like Quinn Cook who you know, he's coming into this season.
Now, um, he's gonna be 27 during during next season of March.
And you look at that, You're like, Okay, are you gonna be able to take the leap into being a guy who was like, you're gonna be able to play in the N B A for another 89 years? Or are you gonna be someone who's kind of a one trick pony? So it's gonna be on him.
It's going to be on guys that Caruso who have the work ethic and the desire to be there, And I think whoever kind of the cream always rises to the top.
That's another cliche that they say It's, like, all right, that that that spots available.
So whoever is gonna come in and take it, gets it.
Yeah, it's gonna be quite a battle will be interesting to see And, um I guess to sum it all up, start the season.
Can we Can we just start this? I think these guys need to get out there on the floor.
I'm ready for preseason.
Game one, first game of preseason, which is I believe it's October 5th suggest.

I gotta watch it.
But now you're kind of getting on the boat you're doing, you know, the good thing by finding this whole weekend with her and taking her somewhere romantic, But you also set yourself up for disaster.
But being like maybe I might have to cut it a little bit gonna go for a preseason game, so, I mean, you put your foot in your mouth a little bit on that one.
Next time, she ain't gonna check it, You say? Oh, yeah.
They're doing something to honor, uh, the great Magic Johnson for the job he did as is as the president of basketball operations.
But But there were no other days for us to go.
So now, you know, here we are getting all fired up about preseason.
I'm knowing that very first game, that first game back, I might be out of town, But the I gotta figure out a way, I gotta come up with it.

Do my work so I could bring it.
