Bill Belichick Dan Boys talking about the greatest team in NFL history every Tuesday and Thursday night Live on SportsCastr at 9 p.m.
And now for the thousands of attendants and Patriots fans from all over the world.
Ah, podcast that Nobody asked for its DPM commentary with Ray and Connor and we are back.
My name is Ray. That man is Connor.
He's the commentary and together we bring you DPM commentary A SportsCastr featured podcast.
Connor, how do we feel after a 45 to nothing victory for our New England Patriots? After that one? Man, I couldn't feel better.
That was vintage patriots.
It really waas like I texted you at halftime and said something along the lines of I haven't felt this like I'm just gonna chill, I don't know, and like two years like I haven't felt maybe since beginning the last season, when the Patriots were destroying like the Miami Dolphins in that kind of thing, like like it was over at the at halftime.
Like I had no like illusion that the Patriots we're gonna blow it or something.
The second half, like I knew there's gonna be a blowout.
Our buddy Lawrence, who's a friend of the show, comes on all the time.
We're texting back and forth, and he's like, Are you coming on at seven o'clock or you waiting for this game to be a 50? Nothing.
It came pretty close to being a 15 game.
It came very close.
Well, I mean, and Bill Belichick didn't have to need the ball there.
He could have been a **** and could have Yeah, scored more points.
I was hoping he would have tried to go for a touchdown.
So, obviously to the right, Jared Stidham came in through a touchdown.
Should start the next game, right? Yeah.
According Toa, like 50% of Patriots Twitter.
He should have started this game, so I mean, after him coming in and throwing a touchdown.
Hey, he threw more TVs than or the same amount of tedious Cam Newton, right? So he did what he did.
He did for the rest of the year.
He didn't run as many in the Oh, that's true.
Does that count rushing touchdowns? I don't know.
He went two for three for 61 yards and a touchdown.
You know, 1 49 quarterback rating.
Hey, that's off to a man.
I just wish corner, though.
Like I was thinking about it today.
I wish that Bill Belichick could draft guys like after watching that Chargers didn't know when I'm watching that.
I wish that he could draft guys like Joshua J and Chase Window ***** Devin McCourty Adam Butler.
I wish you could get those undrafted free agents like like David Andrews, who, by the way, got his helmet knocked off today and kept fighting through the block the whole time.
Jackson? Jonathan Jones had a great game today.
I just wish that Belichick could get his hands on those kind of guys.
You know, the Joe two knees and the mike on.
We news of the world.
You know, I really wish that Bill Belichick just you know, Bill, I wish that Bill Belichick, the general manager, didn't get in the way of of Bill Belichick, the coach.
I know that would be nice, man.
Imagine he had those type of guys out there today making plays, what the game would have looked like.
God, I imagine like a chase.
One of which making an interception for the Patriots or JC Jason Jackson Getting is what? Seventh interception of the year, Right? Like I wish that, like, I wish that Belichick.
I wish that we had a guy like Adam Butler, who had a deflected pass and a sack and was just hitting the quarterback like crazy, like Joshua J.
Just like like crazy taking care of a quarterback.
Just hit them all over the place.
God, I wish we had those kind of guys on the Patriots.
What is Bill Belichick doing, man? Hey, man, he's out there just drafting kickers in the fifth round or something. I don't know.
I don't know what he's doing, man.
You know what? And speaking of kickers like imagine blowing a draft pick on a guy like Jake Bailey.
Oh, my goodness.
I know another terrible game by him, huh? What a game.
What? Your overall thoughts on today's game satire aside, satire aside, man, I I said it on Twitter earlier.
I hope Belichick has 53 game balls because I think everybody on the team deserved one.
The entire team played to a T.
I give the entire team and a the coaching staff.
The offense, the defense, the special teams.
I mean, obviously, the score speaks for itself.
45 to nothing, but they looked every bit Is that 45 to nothing as they played, man, they were great in every aspect.
Nine Patriots caught a football today.
Yeah, that's amazing.
That's an amazing stat right there in itself.
What did you think of the Wildcat? I liked it, man.
I liked it. I liked everything they did.
I thought they they just they were running on all cylinders.
Everything they did today seemed toe work.
And should we also clear up for people that the reason Sony Michelle got a bulk of the carries in the second half was to keep Damian Harris fresh like, Should we get that out of the way right now? Yeah.
I mean, I think both of us have talked about this.
Ah, bunch of times, which is the exact plan.
I mean, Damian Harris has won the job.
It's his job. Sony.
Michelle was gonna come in and steal it.
They're not giving them the ball because they want to get Damian Harris out of there.
E I mean, they wanna we wanna keep Damian Harris fresh, but I think we should also acknowledge that Sony Michelle ran 10 times for 35 yards.
That's 3.5 yards.
Not he had a nice catch, too.
He had a pretty solid game. Damon Harris.
Those 16 carries, 80 yards average, five yards per carry, right? A great game.
I think he had a catch to, did he not? I think he did. Yeah.
He got that screen pass at the beginning of the game 1 15 yards on reception.
So he had again over.
He had 95 yards in total yards today in and catching and, uh, in receiving and rushing the football.
Let's go through this player by player and just give our reactions how we thought they played today.
Let's start with our man Cam Newton, 12 for 1969 yards, one passing touchdown.
14 Russians for 48 yards, two rushing touchdowns.
No fumbles, no interceptions.
Quarterback rating of 87.4.
What do you think of Cam Newton today? I thought he did great, man.
They didn't ask him to throw the ball much, but he didn't need Thio.
He did a phenomenal job running the football.
Damian Harris was great, Supplemental e.
And he pounded into touchdowns when they needed him to also great throat in the keel.
Harry, man, we've been given the kill Harry a hard time.
We said last week he is very close to being a bust, but great touchdown catch.
Great throw by can, Man, I I thought he played great.
Yeah, I wouldn't come in and say he had a spectacular game by any sense, but he didn't need to.
And I thought that he played just fine.
He didn't turn the football over.
He made smart plays, took one sack.
Yeah, I had no issues whatsoever with him today.
Uh, James White had a quiet game.
Yeah, three catches for one yard.
No carries today.
I thought after Birkhead went down that James White would become a much more.
A much larger fixture in this Patriots offense.
Were you surprised that he wasn't overly involved today? Um, yeah, kind of.
But my prediction for the remainder of the season, as faras James James White goes, is that it's gonna be very up and down, and it's gonna be game scripted.
I feel like this week he got three touches for one yard and negative one.
Yeah, whatever it is, next week he's gonna be super involved.
And then two weeks from now, he's barely gonna be involved again.
I think James White, it's gonna be a week by week thing.
If we were gonna pick a guy who we could actually find a negative sort of connotation to talk about, it would be Jacoby Meyers.
Targeted six times to catch is 15 yards.
Ah, big drop on the opening drive.
Uh, there was a little bit.
It was a little bit of a low pass by Cam Newton, but missed it.
Disappointed in Jacoby Meyers.
Ah, strong word.
I mean, I thought he I thought he did drop a couple of passes, especially that for us when he was talking about but I mean, the team played so well and they didn't really need them today, so it doesn't really look a bad.
I'm sure if they lost the game would be harping all over him a lot more, but I think we'll be fine.
I'm not too concerned about Myers.
So Ghana Rusevski had one catch today.
38 yards and a touchdown reception.
Um, you didn't really do anything else special during the game.
Besides that, right? Um, you did OK in a couple of returns.
You think you did.
Okay, What? Decent Three returns for 100 and 45 yards.
Ah, 70 yard touchdown.
You're saying that's that's an okay return.
That's an okay game for Gunner.
I thought it was pretty solid for Mr Gunn around there.
Yeah, I know. What a game.
What a He's I don't know what it has been the past two weeks.
He's a completely different person out there.
Is e mean special teams was the name of the game today.
Yeah, they were phenomenal.
Like, absolutely the name of the game.
The blocked punt picked up by Devin McCourty who, like I mean just runs it back in the return by by Oshinsky.
Give it up to Moncrief on the block.
One of the blocks on that play.
He blocked on the second time when I thought I thought gonna was gonna run it in for another touchdown.
I thought he was gonna have a two touchdown day.
I kind of got ran out around, what? The 10 or 15 yard line Right when he came very close.
Another huge return.
Just spectacular game.
How about our boy Nick Folk? One from one on field goal, 6 46 on extra points.
He's officially money at this point.
Nick Focus. Almost Mr Automatic.
When he comes on, I fully expect him to make every kick.
At this point, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing for him, but his expectations with me are now extremely high.
Jake Bailey has four points today, 497 yards.
Three of the four are inside the 20 yard line.
The Onley touchback he had was, if Matthew Slater wouldn't have run out of bounds, he would have stopped that thing right at the goal line and it would have been another unbelievable punt.
We've said it 100 times.
Jake Bailey is an absolute weapon for this Patriots team.
And he looked absolutely fantastic.
Yet another Pro Bowl or him and Nick Folk should both go to the Pro Bowl at this point.
I don't know how they don't No, I agree.
Um, you know, Nick folk Never in doubt, man.
Never doubt way talking about to kill Harry a little bit.
That touchdown catch that he had were basically Cam Newton threw the ball before he even turned around and he jumped up, Got the ball, won the 50 50.
Just played bigger, stronger.
That's the reason to kill Harry is on this team to make those type of catches, right.
I was so happy to see Nikkila Harry make a catch like that today because I think that's what we've been waiting for.
Harry, get up there and go get the football.
Absolutely, uh, happy with happy with his performance today.
Had a couple of catches, One of those being a touchdown.
Yeah, he had a great performance, man.
I don't know what what more we could have asked for.
They didn't throw the ball that much, obviously.
But that was a huge touchdown.
I'm not going to sit here and say I wasn't surprised.
I was pretty surprised when I realized, Wow, that's number 15.
That was McKeel Harry who just caught that ball.
But, hey, he's got to start somewhere.
Then we're gonna give him a chance eventually.
And he took advantage of the opportunities that he had today.
So we'll see what he does the next four weeks.
Are you starting to sit here now? So let's backtrack before I get into that question.
I think that this is the Patriots moment we've been waiting for.
Is it not 100%? We've been waiting for this for 12 weeks now because all we've heard Cam Newton say over and over again, this team is going to get better.
This teams, you know, we're not even there yet.
We haven't peaked to set all the right things, right? We're just we're getting our groove together.
Today was just offensively was complementary football one 100%.
Yeah, and I mean, we still got to get into the defense and we'll get into that in a minute because this Chargers offense was the third best offense in the NFL.
I think it was the second best passing offense, just just behind Kansas City.
Like, and I talked like I was on raised useless rant yesterday on YouTube and I said that I believe the Patriots gonna win, but they're gonna have a perfect game.
Cam Newton was gonna have to play smart.
He was gonna have to, you know, not hold onto the football run when he needs to.
You know, make the passage needs to make the defense.
Was gonna have to play elite special teams.
Was gonna have to be key.
Well, two touchdowns come from special teams today.
Defense doesn't let up a point.
A couple of interceptions.
They're banging around Justin Herbert like crazy Cam Newton doesn't have Ah, you know, uh, M v P game, by any sense, but plays a good, smart game managing game.
Makes a couple of big runs and plays when they need to.
His touchdown gets called back.
Doesn't even miss the beat.
Just sneaks it in for another touchdown.
They played a perfect game today.
They're not as close to because you can in the game of football.
I can't really think of any mistakes that they made.
I don't even really remember them having any kind of penalties.
I mean, maybe they did.
I I just remember it being flawless, thinking about it now on all three aspects of the game, especially the coaching as well.
They they just pounded them and it was.
It was just a beat down from the start to the finish, and it showed on the scoreboard.
Man, 45 to nothing.
And this is really one of those games where it's when we look at the defense.
It's not like all the secondary played great.
All this side played great.
I mean, from the front seven to the secondary, everybody played spectacular.
Let's start with the front sevens.
John Simon has a tackle, but he hit the quarterback a bunch.
Lawrence guy has a great game.
Adam Butler, Butler, great.
Three tackles and a sack.
That's back to back great games for Adam Butler.
I think he's officially. That's great.
Yeah, he looks great to Detroit's Weiss Jr.
A guy who I didn't even think was gonna make the roster this year, A guy that I was, you know, basically said his last opportunity came last year and never came through.
He's actually probably been the Patriots most consistent defender this this year.
And then he had a great game today.
Yeah, absolutely, Man.
The entire line.
They harassed Herbert all game.
And coming into this game, I was kind of nervous because Herberts a gun slinger man, I think that kid's gonna be really good.
Despite his poor performance today, I honestly put it more on the Patriots than I do him.
They harassed him in.
I have not seen the Patriots defense harass a quarterback like they did today, since I don't, uh, I guess early last season when we were calling them the Boogie Man and they were going against Ryan Fitzpatrick, It's been 22 games since I've seen them go after a quarterback like this.
It was just phenomenal, man, I love to see it, you know, and we talked about that a lot about a lot this year about how this Patriots pass rush was non existent.
And, you know, we always we kept saying like, it be great if they could could get to the quarterback occasionally e.
I mean, what we saw today to is was Josh UK and Chase with a bit on the field a lot.
They were both all over him.
I'm gonna as we're talking here.
I'm gonna go on Pff and see if I could get their snap counts and everything, but yeah, they were absolutely just They were spectacular today.
Hit him a couple times and the sacks are great, but the pressures are Justus important.
Then even if you don't sack him, get there getting his face hit him.
That's what Joshua J.
Was doing all game in him and Chase Voinovich are sizing up to be two phenomenal draft picks at this point.
Oh, absolutely, Absolutely.
The grades are still pending, so I can't get that yet.
So I'll we'll go over that tomorrow.
We'll go over how much they played.
No, that duo is just showing exactly what this team could become defensively.
Right? But how about a shadow to Jawan Bentley, who had a fantastic game today? Him to man.
It's just like the entire game.
Like I said earlier, Bill Belichick needs to hand out 53 game balls because the entire team just played the absolute best that they could.
I can't think of one guy, really.
That didn't do anything.
I know James why didn't do much, but he wasn't really out there.
And every everyone who played performed, it was just like the chemistry.
They're just starting to gel.
So Justin Herbert goes 26 for 53 for 209 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions, three sacks on the day.
Like what more can you ask for out of your defense and he's been lighting it up.
It's not like he's a poor quarterback.
There were there were a great offense.
Austin hecklers, a stud.
Keenan Allen is phenomenal.
Hunter. Henry is great.
Mike Williams is a good player.
They are really good offense.
When we talked about this game on Thursday, we said, Yes.
We think the Patriots are gonna lose, but we more put it on the Chargers, in the sense of they always seem to find a way to lose.
That's what we kept saying, right? They always you know, this team? Yeah. You know, ****.
You know, they're gonna find a way to lose.
Uh, you could have said you could have given me 100 guests if I didn't see this game.
And I was just here right now.
And you said Ray Guest how much the Patriots won by Dude.
I'm gonna use, uh I wouldn't even ****ing come close to 45.
Nothing. Me neither.
I never in a million years would have guessed that they would have shut this team out.
Four games left.
Four games left.
Another game tonight can be a dogfight.
They're a tough team.
Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets.
Nobody did any favors for the Patriots today? No.
The Jets blew it.
They almost did, but they blew it.
The Jets blow it.
The Texans blow it.
Texans blew it. Big time.
The Patriots Cleveland one today? Yep.
The Patriots still don't control their own destiny.
And I hate being in that situation.
It's close, though. It's close.
If I saw the other day, if they go 50 which we have one down, it was a 98% chance they make the playoffs.
So they just keep winning.
What game now with the remaining four games worries you the most.
I'm gonna go in reverse order, I'll tell you that.
I think the Rams probably worry the worry.
The Jets being the last game obviously worries me the least.
I mean, if you can't get past the Jets, then you shouldn't be in the playoffs.
The Miami Dolphins worry me.
The second least the bills worry me.
The third least, I think the Rams is gonna be the toughest game followed by the Bills.
And if they could win these next to watch out, man.
So you're more worried about Miami than you are about Buffalo? No, no, I'm saying the opposite.
It goes Rams bills, Miami Jets, right? Yeah. Yeah.
I'm the most worried about the Rams, and then it just gets easier from there.
And I thought I thought today was gonna be a tough game, but I think going forward, it just gets easier.
Do you expect to see this kind of overall team performance like we saw today? Or do you think that this was just anomaly? Should we use Patriot fans? Get our expectations through the ****ing roof now, cause that's what I'm asking you.
Should we be sitting here yelling about super bowls.
I tweeted out at halftime.
I'm just like when his wildcard weekends.
I gotta patriots came to watch.
So if they keep playing like this, they're gonna win the Super Bowl 101 100% because they would have beaten any team today.
They could have been playing the Packers.
Who? I think, um, in my opinion, is going to go to the Super Bowl in the NFC.
They would have won.
They would have beat them.
They were just on point at every position.
But we we've seen them be so inconsistent.
I mean, they lost a Houston a couple weeks ago, which drove me crazy.
They put up in absolute diverse, the 40 Niners, But then they come out today and they look like a completely different team.
They look absolutely phenomenal.
So I mean, my expectations were getting higher because, like Cam Newton said, Man, they haven't played the best football yet.
They're starting to come into their own.
Hopefully, this is them jelling, But we're gonna have to see what happens on Thursday night.
And look, I know they've been inconsistent and like you and I talked, you know where you just said it.
The San Francisco game looked awful, right.
But we haven't seen this out of the Patriots yet this season.
Something completely different, like And to me, that's where I'm at with this.
Like that's where I'm getting excited like we actually, we haven't seen them dominate a game this year, right? This was like the Baltimore Ravens game on steroids because we thought they looked phenomenal.
Then this was like they went to another level to when they beat Arizona last week.
Whereas I'll say it, Tom Brady would have been running out with his helmet in the air.
You know what I mean? Like we won the game.
Cam Newton turns around and looks at Josh McDaniels and says, I'm sorry like I'm sorry, man.
Right? So after a win, he could have very easily been like I had a bad game.
Whatever we want, we want right.
And he sat there and basically said, Yeah, he said he said it like I played like ****, you know, I played I played bad, but we want I'm not gonna apologize for a win.
It was at that moment, dude and I talked about this last week.
It was at that moment that I was like, Man, that's my quarterback Like that's been I was so proud to say Like I've been happy with Cam Newton is my quarterback.
That was like, My I am so proud that Cam Newton's my quarterback.
That a part of me wonders if we should have expected this performance today because this team I've never seen the Patriots is a team look like a team like they are right now since the early two thousands, where you just look at the camaraderie, camaraderie, camaraderie, camaraderie on the bench.
Look at the guys together like I've never seen.
You know, we're so used to seeing, you know, Brady, sitting by himself, maybe having Julian Edelman beside him.
You know, um, with Jared Stidham sitting on a helmet beside them, they don't even have to be on the same bench type of deal where you see these guys on the sidelines like after Rochette skis, touchdown, run! He's sitting there with Matthew Slater and they're just talking and laughing and and all that kind of stuff, like and I think a lot of that has to do with Cam Newton right now.
Did you see him celebrate instead of touchdown pass with him.
Yes, ran out there.
Yeah, I couldn't couldn't wait to celebrate with them, and it just shows the camaraderie that they have.
He celebrated yelling, Hey, celebrated stadiums! He celebrated.
Ozersky is run like he.
There's definitely no favorites on this team, right? That would be a fair thing to say, right? There's no favorites whatsoever on this team.
Like Brady, we knew that Brady had a little inner circle, right? Gronk and Edelman and whoever when Amendola Chris Hogan loved Amendola.
Um, I think that the defensive line is in his inner circle.
Any nicknames for everybody? Anybody that he comes into contact with.
And the fact that you'd never see Tom Brady gets super excited about the backup quarterback or your possible replacement next year throwing a touchdown and that there's Cam Newton.
Just thrilled for System.
I think that was just part of the Patriots.
Today is, of course, that I'm came in and do a touchdown.
They were just on fire.
They were just doing so well that it didn't matter.
Stadium came out.
Stadium couldn't wait to be a part of what was going on today and that that just shows the vibe that's going on with this team right now.
Yeah, and again.
And I think that all comes down to Camden.
And I'm so proud that he agreed back.
I agree completely.
That's it all comes down to the leadership man and the the locker room.
The vibe must be so high right now.
Belichick usually likes to go in for his his post game speech and always like, Alright, guys, we got a tough game coming up.
You know, we played solid 60 minutes today.
You know? Not, you know, got to do this.
Better got to the What can he say to them? That would be negative about this game.
You know who's gonna get an earful tomorrow or on the plane tonight? Kyle Duggar for not touching the receiver when he was down on the ground and letting him stand up and get 15 yards out of it? I don't know.
Did somebody jump offsides once like Adam for Adam? Butler jumped offside, double trouble and well, that doesn't matter.
He jumped offside, and I think that led to the blocked field goal that Okay, uh, did say something Yeah, probably, but I don't think there's gonna be any, Uh, go get Johnny ****ing Foxboro to do this.
Not this week, man.
The entire team e mean, that was today was the epitome of do your job.
And every single person on the entire roster did their job.
It really blew the doors off this team.
I just Yeah, I'm just sitting here right now, almost dumbfounded, like, almost almost dumbfounded.
Like I sat there when I texted you with the half.
Like you could tell by my comment.
It was almost like a what the **** is going on to? And then at that point, I was kind of like, wow, like this games kinda over.
I'm like, I'm always gonna watch the second half, but I'm like the patriots have already won.
I'm like, I never expected this.
I did not think it was gonna be this type of game at all.
Well, let's put it this way.
When when Lawrence messaged me to be like Are you doing seven o'clock with me? I was like, Yeah, like like I'm not I'm not going to skip out on this for this game.
It's not you know, like a soon as I saw a number four running on the field.
I'm like, Right? I was ready for stood him to come in and like, this game is so far out of reach. Like play.
Who let whoever play.
It's like a little league game When you're 12, you know, let every little kid pitch.
You know, it was 35 to nothing.
This is my favorite postgame we've done so far this year.
Yeah, This Yeah, absolutely like this today.
I hope that in a month you and I aren't coming back looking back at this game and saying too little too late, right? That's That's one of the things.
And I was talking about that earlier with my dad, we like, Even if they won 11 of those games that they just barely lost, it would be so much closer.
But regardless of that, they still I think I think they still control our own destiny.
Win four in a row and you will make the playoffs.
I know we have to worry about everyone else, but you can only worry about yourself.
Just win four in a row.
Yeah, and you can't.
We as Patriot fans.
We can't scoreboard watch.
Now we can only focus what the Patriots are doing.
But e, I agree with you, though, you know, win for.
But I agree with you in the sense of, like, beat Seattle.
You know, like hit that one yard beat Denver.
You know, don't fumble against Buffalo, and we don't have to win a three game gauntlet, which, in my opinion, Rams Miami, Buffalo.
It's a three game gone lit, so yeah, it's it's really tough toe.
It's gonna be a tough stretch for the Patriots.
But as I said yesterday, I'm gonna say it right now, and I'm sure you'll agree with me a zloty.
As the Patriots are mathematically in the playoffs, I will never, ever count out a team led by Bill Belichick.
And what I saw today on that field was the same kind of team I saw back in 2000 and one a scrappy underdog team who plays in gels like a team.
I can only imagine.
You know what? No, I was gonna say I could only imagine the party they're having on the plane right now.
I bet you they're all looking at their tablets studying the game tape of the Rams.
Because that's a short week for them.
This week it's gonna be a quick turnaround.
And back to practice tomorrow.
So is the tank for Trevor Lawrence off or call me **** the tank Way will see everybody.
We will see everyone.
