What is my bed? What is up? Everyone, This is empire Sports.
Talk with me, Luke Backman.
I'll be covering the Big Apple's top stories and everything related.
The Yankees, Jets, Knicks and Nets all live from my studio office here in Arlington, Texas, I maybe 2000 miles away, but I still get the best New York hot takes on the Internet.
With all that being said, let's hop into today's topics.
Today. We will be looking.
I haven't been on for a while, but Thanksgiving happened last week as the Jets.
I would have previewed Jets first Dolphins, which turned out not to be a game that really mattered for the Jets as they lost 22 3.
But we'll get into that.
I'm here, though.
This week, talking Jets and Raiders playing in the Meadowlands.
Las Vegas Raiders come into this game just after getting blown out by the really newly acquainted Falcons is therefore, and two without.
Their with after changing from Dan Quinn is their head coach.
The Jets, as I mentioned, lost in the Miami Dolphins 22 3.
Ryan Fitzpatrick played.
He was in for two as to what was injured, and he played well, obviously led the Dolphins to a 23 win.
Raiders Derek Carr had his worst game this season.
No touchdowns, couple turnovers.
They look to bounce back against the winless Jets, and before we get into the storylines game, let's get into a couple of injuries around Shark Perry.
Men shoulder injury.
He was limited practice on when yesterday actually expect him to play.
I believe he'll play while right tackle George Font knee ankle injury.
He did not practice Wednesday, so I'm not too sure whether or not he will play on Sunday Font again.
As I've mentioned, we need all the offensive lineman as we can, even if they have not been as successful as I've hoped throughout the season.
We still need offensive lineman who are healthy and can potentially help block only two.
Really, those two really injured for the Jets? Same Donald has looked to make a recovery on the shoulder injury, so that's always a plus to see Sam Donald Lineup, which we'll get to actually is.
His performance on Sunday was not one Chaka, one of the great Greater stand Donald performances.
We'll get into that closing side.
The Raiders injuries running back Josh Jacobs.
He did not practice with the ankle injury.
Um, I believe Jacobs will play if even if he does, if he does, he might even get sparring snaps.
Just because the fact that this Jets defense is not really contain the run as much as you hoped to as as well as they did last year, which they believe sixth in the league last year containing the run they're not they were not able to do that well this season.
So even if Jacobs does players in 100% we'll get some snaps and he will be effective, sadly, against the Jets defense.
Wide receiver Nelson Aguilar angle? Or he did.
He didn't practice either Wednesday.
UH, knee injury.
He's had a really good comeback season for the Raiders himself.
It was mocked, made a mockery in Philadelphia, which is a brutal city in the, you know, at its finest.
You can't really mess up in Philadelphia, and they'll let you know.
I remember one interview after Al angle or dropped, I believe a touchdown to win the game.
Uh, there's this is so off topic.
But I remember this.
There is a story.
It was a local news broadcast in Philadelphia and a house was on fire, right? And the dude there, there, any of you in a dude about how how what happened? Any Children in there? He was like, Oh, I saw E saw someone say Throw their you know their baby was stuck up there because the firefighter tossed their baby out the window and the dude was like, I hold Nelson a girl or a girl or is it catching it because the baby would have dropped, like just stuff like that is so Philadelphia that you can't make one mistaking a football game or else you're gonna get talked about on the local news for not catching babies.
I don't know what made me bring that up, but he's had a bounce back year with Derek Carr and Jon Gruden system with the Raiders, but he did not practice Wednesday.
I believe we'll get some snaps sparingly.
He's their rule.
He's their sop****re sop****re year safety.
Drafted high last year from Alabama, knee injury as well.
Similar to AGL or he didn't didn't practice on Wednesday.
Finally, cornerback uh, Dammann Arnett. Concussion.
Concussion protocol did not play Wednesday, either.
Not play did not practice Wednesday.
Main players on both to on both sides of the ball did not practice on Wednesday.
We'll have to see if they make an appearance in Sunday's game.
Looking at the Raiders.
They are six and five On the season they've played.
They've been surprisingly playing well.
They're vying for a wild card position as the Chiefs will have the division locked just quickly running through the Raiders schedule.
Raiders win their first week Week one matchup against the Panthers, 34 30 when we to 34 24 against the Saints.
Lose to the Patriots, 36 to 20.
Lost to the Bills, 32 20 three.
Excuse me, This was one of the biggest surprises of the year.
They beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 42 32 in Arrowhead.
That was really the game that put, I'd say, Jon Gruden system.
And the way the Las Vegas Raiders, now on the map, to be a team to have potentially watch out for obviously they're the only team that is Beat the Chiefs and we'll get down to their latest game against the Chiefs, where they had a really good chance.
Uh, that game in, uh, Las Vegas now to be the Chiefs also.
But Week five, their win against the chief was an eight point victory.
Okay, they're sadly followed that game up in Week six with a 45 to 20 lost to the Buccaneers.
That was what the time the Buccaneer old Excuse me.
Buccaneers started rolling.
They were rolling.
Tom Brady was playing good.
They jumped out to, I believe, a six and two record that those that win came in that stretch where they got a couple of wins.
So they just met a hot Buccaneers team.
Meet the Browns by 10 16 to 6.
Real sloppy game.
I believe that that was a real windy game.
Neither quarterbacks had it going.
The score tells you, Uh, next week.
They followed that up with absolute real good game between both quarterbacks of the Raiders and Chargers Chargers that we found another way to lose that game so that Rangers ableto gifted, I want to say gifted.
They earned the win But when you're playing the charges, the charges, they're going to find more ways toe lose that, say, than win, as that's evident with the amount of games they've lost when another game, 37 to 12 against the Broncos 1000 week.
Now, then, the next two games have not been going well for the Raiders.
This is the Chiefs games I was talking about 35 to 31.
They lose to the Chiefs.
But here's the silver lining.
Looking at the game from two weeks ago, one Mahomes had to beat him on a really good last two minute drive.
Patrick Mahomes could do it right? Patrick Mahomes, I think, undoubtedly, is the number one quarterback in the league.
A moment, especially with how Lamar Jackson the Ravens have been playing.
There really is no competition for Patrick Mahomes.
He's doing everything his Travis, Kelsey and Tiger kill lead the league in receiving just because how great Mahomes has been recently.
So that's one reason, and another reason is they had 10 players on the Kobe 19 reserve list.
Uh, that weren't even suited up for that game against the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes, as great as I just mentioned he is he him and the Chiefs had toe make a real comeback win against the beat upset secondary of the Raiders defense of the Raiders second team of the Raiders on defense just to eke out a four point win against them two weeks ago.
So that's a silver lining.
But even with that close game, you're thinking, Oh, wow, the Raiders air legit.
Even in a loss, you feel good about it.
They followed up with a 41 6 loss to Atlanta.
Obviously, I mentioned Land has been a different team after the firing of UH Dan Quinn, 41 to 6 toe Ah, Falcons team, I believe it did not have Julio Jones last week.
Just absolutely dominated by Calvin Ridley Derek Carr.
Easily at the worst game of the season, we're gonna have to see how him and Jon Gruden respond to this, because at the moment there close to the wild card but not guaranteed a spot in the playoffs at this moment, they're getting helped out by Baltimore Baltimore.
At this moment, I think you should put your money on not making the playoffs.
They're six and five.
The Browns are second in that division at eight and three.
They have a lot of ground to make up.
Eso You could see Baltimore fall out of that and the Raiders step up into that space.
So they're getting help from Baltimore in that regard.
But still, it's you have to win this week against, sadly, my New York Jets to even have a chance.
If you lose, go six and six with four games remaining, it's gonna be a hard long, you know, climb to the mountain toe, potentially get into the playoffs.
Looking at these key players for the Raiders.
I've mentioned multiple times best season of his career in 19 touchdowns, only four interceptions, completing the ball at a 69.
3% just under 70%.
Him and Jon Gruden have found a way to make it work this season thing.
I wasn't too sure how this contract with Gruden was gonna go.
Remember, they send them to a 10 year $100 million contract to bring them to Las Vegas.
I didn't know how is gonna work, especially in the first year resident play that we didn't play well at all.
But this year has been a revelation.
Even at six and five, they've really made strides of improvement running the ball.
Excuse me, Josh Jacobs.
He's had 206 carries.
Josh Jacobs has been phenomenal.
Form 206 carries.
Yeah, nine touchdowns.
Excuse me and receiving the ball.
He's been a threat to granted.
Not a bigger threat is ****ogous tomorrow.
Percent, but 17 receptions for 175 yards Coming out the back field is amazing.
Uh, I mentioned Nelson Agler earlier.
29 catches on the year, 497 yards and six touchdowns.
He's been Derek Carr is found ways to find a galore and turned him into a receiver that we thought he was in Philadelphia for the last couple of years.
Right? Budgeting for Henry.
Rugs from Alabama.
17 catches, 312 yards to only one touchdown.
Did you think about that? Rugs is a really good receiver.
You wash them. Alabama is really good.
They have a lot of playmakers there on the offensive side of the ball.
Right. I'm gonna name off two more receivers.
You remember the small dude from Clemson got the game winning touchdown from DeShaun Watson to win the national championship? He himself is 38 catches, 509 yards and two touchdowns, right? He gives you that really slot receiver. Reliable.
I watched, you know, cowboy game because I'm here in Arlington.
If you're Cole Beasley, that's who he reminds you have.
Really, because he's a slot receiver, buddy.
He has a good agility.
Wherefore makes an impact, and it's shown with 38 catches.
And then I'd have to say easily, one of the better titans in the league.
Darren Waller and obviously Kirk, uh, Derek Cars. Favorite receiver.
64 catches on the year, 542 yards, five touchdowns.
And he easily is one of the top tight ends and NFL.
If you watch hard knocks, you know his story.
It's a really good story.
Watch the dude, just the wash and play and make I want to make money.
He signed a really good contract a couple years ago, I believe earlier in the off season, and he's producing 64 catches.
I just read off cars found him multiple times throughout many games, and he's obviously the favorite target.
Their out of this really stacked receiving corps.
That card and the Raiders have defense side of the ball, just going through these quickly. Max Crosby.
He leads the team and *** with only with six compared to everyone else on the team.
No one has over 1.
5 sacks on the team.
So Crosby is far and away the leader in that regard.
Jonathan Abram, who I told you.
I believe I said he might have been from Alabama.
He is from Mississippi State.
I hard knocks If you watched.
I watched hard knocks because I love to watch Gruden.
Uh, I loved watching his Q B camps, so I love and knock on wood.
If you're with May, everything about Hardman Hard knocks.
I like Jonathan Abrams.
Oh, I believe he has Charles Woodson's old number.
He talked to Charles Woodson.
Woodson allowed him to wear it, and everyone is one of those safeties you can look at become a potential new Jamal Adams.
Quick impact, right? Uh, is counterpart are That's his right hand man, his teammate Jeff Heath, another safety.
He leads the team, uh, and interceptions with three.
So that safety 10 has really been working well for the Raiders.
And then finally there.
Kicker Daniel Carson play really well, 23 out of 25 field goals he's made, along with 31 32 extra points.
So special teams has really been locked up for the Raiders getting into the game looking at each games.
Prior Raiders, I mentioned coming off an embarrassing loss to Atlanta.
The question is, how are they gonna bounce back? Are they going to bounce back with passion? You know? Okay, we got to get this win or they're gonna be like, Wow, we lost.
We lost a game to the Falcons by that much, you know, defeated.
I expect angry, angry Oakland Excuse me, Las Vegas Raiders team, just for the fact that they have leaders like Derek Carr.
Like Jon Gruden like Josh Jacobs.
Josh Jacobs is quiet, but Jonathan Abram isn't right.
These guys should have their teammates ready for everything.
I thought I was going to say everything the Jets were gonna bring to the table, but that has been shown lack thereof for everything that the Jets spring.
The Jets bring to the table at this point, but I believe cars gonna have them.
While I wouldn't say a defeated team, you could see writers team that plays down to the Jets level.
Obviously, you're playing the on 11 jets.
You're thinking we have this wind sealed up. The Jets are playing awful.
Scored three points against the Miami defense.
So you'd want you'd hope to see them not play down to the level of the New York Jets.
But that could potentially happen.
Even if they did that, I would still pick Las Vegas during the game.
But that's something car and grew.
The need to try and avoid from this team and car, especially.
Get get going, quick, get some passes, gets, um, completions.
Get going. Quick, quick.
So the Jets team has no, you know, mentally thought of.
Okay, we have a chance in this game.
One thing that has I've been working for the Jets recently, though, is the receiving corps of Denzel Nimes and Bashar Perriman.
Perriman was a rial, has turned into a real big player.
Jamison Crowder has been our number one receiver do a majority of the year, but is obviously you don't have many weapons.
On the Jets side of the offensive side of the ball, right, Perriman has stepped up huge and Denzel Memes.
He was injured for a lot. Mims.
He was injured for a lot of the year, but he's come into the game into these games.
Excuse May and made immediate impact.
His first game he had, I believe, 40 or 60 yards.
That was his first game coming off injury.
He is just another receiver there, and him and Perriman mention Pyramid.
Obviously, I've done a great job of taking the pressure away from Crowder, who's getting potentially double covered safety over the top of him on deep routes, which has made it easier in turn for Donald.
But Donald has not been able to capitalize.
As here we go with a stab.
Right now, he's gone four straight games without a touchdown pass, right, the longest and drought for a Jets quarterback since 2013 ob.
The quarterback is Gino Smith.
You remember Gino Smith was the second round pick by the jet? Yeah, by the Jets back, he played, Uh, I feel like I shouldn't have to go down Gino Smith's resume, but he really had not played well or made a name for himself in the NFL.
He was a real good quarterback of West Virginia year before he entered the draft, or two years before the year before he entered the draft, he fell off extremely hard.
He was considered going to the season.
The Heisman favorite fell off.
No, obviously was a second round pick.
Never materialized for anything from New York.
I just read the staff four straight games without touching on past.
Donald hasn't that and entered that range.
With that being said, it's hard to place all the blame on Donald.
I know it's easy, just okay.
He's the quarterback. He's gotta throw touchdowns.
They gotta score.
I talked about minimum period, and they can Onley do so much.
Your running game has not good.
Your offensive line has not been good all season ache.
I'm putting the blame on case.
If you've been here for Empire Sports talk when I previewed games, you know how much I dislike Adam.
Guess he's not a coach.
I want for my Jets next year.
I don't want him next week.
Percent at all, you know, Mind if they fired him right when I got off stream? I don't like Adam Gayssot all, and he comes here.
He comes to the media with quotes.
He gets snippy with reporters the other day, said, I came here.
This is talking about Sam gnarled.
I came here to help him help them develop his career, and we haven't been able to do that right.
So finally, is taking some responsibility for the fact that he has been, in much cases, a hindrance on the development of San Donald at all.
Gae Soo's seven and 20 and his time in New York For the past two seasons coaching, we've easily been one of the one of, if not the worst offenses in the game.
You remember Peyton Manning? Vouch for this man said he was a Q Q B guru.
Jets hired him under Peyton Manning, coming to them, saying, This is the man.
Just look at his time in Miami.
Ryan Tannehill did not flourish in that system.
Go to Mike Rabel in Tennessee, granted is cooled off a lot, but early to start the season and even, like oh, thanks for the tip.
Even last season, they won a playoff game to play off.
Do they want to playoffs games? I know they will beat the Ravens.
Oh, they beat the excuse me.
They beat the New England in the wild card and they want to playoffs game with Ryan Tannehill.
I know you're gonna say Derrick Henry led the team, carried the team, but you have to have a quarterback who is competent to stay in playoff games and would get you to the playoffs.
Tennessee has been up and down this year, but Tannehill's looked relatively fine and not the case with him and Jason Miami a couple of years before, right? So Gates is the common denominator in all these places where the quarterbacks have not flourished and then going off to flourish.
Obviously, that's yet to be seen if Donald goes off somewhere else to play.
But in my opinion, I think it will, because just the fact our offensive line can't let Sam Donald gets set, not set, but get time to make it past Donald's averaging is one of the league's worst and just throwing the ball yards Um oh, my goodness, I'm blanking on like the acronym, but it's how far you throw the ball right? Drew Brees was.
I've talked about this before.
Maybe on quick takes.
Drew Brees was one of the worst early in the season of throwing the ball deep and Sam Donald's crept up right on gays as flip flopped.
Who's calling plays? They've tried everything.
In fact, he said he doesn't want to say who's calling plays because he believed he believes it puts his team had a competitive disadvantage.
If teams know who's calling place, it really doesn't matter.
Uh, you're the head coach.
You need to put people in position, toe toe succeed.
And that has not been the case with Adam Case.
I don't know if the Jets are purposely sabotaging themselves by keeping him his coach.
If we're purposely trying to tank, obviously we're trying to tank.
But if we're like if if that would be insane, if we said our best shot to lose games is to keep Adam Gates as head coach, that's absolutely insane and it's it's proven well, right.
But is it No, it's I was trying to think of another way to say, Is that someone else's fault? But in my opinion, it's always his fault.
He's brought a negative energy in New York.
It's It's just not fun to go ahead and watch Jets games as we get, you know, lose toe.
A backup quarterback.
Granted, photographers played well, but we lose to the Dolphins, 22 3.
We can't even put up.
We put up a field goal.
We can't even put up a touchdown or anything is.
It's just sad is a Jets fan granted last year we did beat these Raiders 30 43.
Obviously, I mentioned the whole new system that Jon Gruden and their car having, uh, I'd say imported into this season and have really succeeded with.
So I wouldn't say this is a revenge game for the not Oakland Raiders.
Excuse me, Las Vegas Raiders.
But obviously they remember that the Jets beat him last year.
Jets were not a good team last year, either, right? Uh, and obviously you're not going into a game against Owen 11.
12 team thinking.
Oh, this is a revenge game.
This is everything.
They just wanna beat the jets, you know, move on to the next week.
That's how it's gonna go while we didn't put up points and this is where I'm gonna lead to next as a Jets fan, we limited Miami only 20 points.
My name is often Miami's offense has been playing what recently well granted to had a hard time against.
I believe those Denver and they to bring.
Yeah, it was Denver and they bring fit.
Patrick in offense was having a hard time there.
But overall there offensive that fine and the defense was able to make some stops on the Limited.
With 20 points in the NFL, a few Onley give up 20 points.
In my opinion, I think you should b on pace to win that game, especially in the spread spread out league now where everyone's strong. The ball. Air raid.
Big Ben last night.
Crazy say last night on the Thursday you know Wednesday football game.
Big Ben last night for the Steelers football.
That's just what the league has become, right? Our offense could can't put up seven points a touchdown.
We could only manage a squeak out of field goal in that game, right? So in that regard you have to put all of, if not the blame on the offense because Frank Gore is doing everything he can.
We've talked about Frank Gore.
He has no offensive line blocking for him.
He's an older running back.
He's He knows he's retiring in a couple of years.
I wouldn't be surprised if he signs with the 40 Niners and retires with them next year, right? So it's just hard for a defense to continue.
Go out there, worked for your team.
When you know the offense has been coming up short and every game this season, it's except maybe the game against the Patriots.
That's where the defense let up.
But even in that, Flacco threw the awful interception, and the offense made the defense go back on the field.
Just even looking at the offensive ratings were 32 in yards per game, 32 2nd yard third.
Excuse me, 30 seconds, passing yards per game, 26 rushing yards, which isn't no, that's still bad, but not as awful as last in the league.
And then finally, this is where it is 32nd in points per game.
We're averaging 13.
8 per game. That's not even.
That's just about two touchdowns.
The game and this league were.
Quarterbacks are running, throwing the ball so much, you can't score 14 points and expect to win a game.
Even in the game against Miami.
If you scored 14 points, you still lose by six.
That's if you don't miss the extra point.
Which the Jets? Yeah, it's the Jets.
I I wouldn't be surprised if they miss an extra point.
And defensively, they haven't played awful.
Uh, I mean 29th in points per game.
Granted, they're giving up 29.
3 points per game.
Uh, you have some games where you obviously get below that.
It's an average.
Some games, you give up a lot, and we've given up a lot too many teams.
So that's kind of swayed our average a little higher.
Who? We've had some competitive games, especially on defensive recently.
Eso maybe look for this team to try and stifle Garrett car trying, not him.
Get him going immediately.
So Sam Donald can potentially get on track and get going for the Jets, because if they're gonna find a way toe win this game against Las Vegas.
It's gonna be The offense is gonna have to really step up production.
Personally, I have a I want the Jets to win.
Obviously, I would love just for one Thursday to come on here.
Excited that the Jets of one.
But my actual basketball head coach is a diehard Raiders fan, and I know if the Jets beat the Raiders, I'll probably have to run couple suicides on Monday if the Jets win that one.
But the amount of trolling I do would be amazing if the Jets actually could pull off this win.
The oh, and 11 Jets could pull off this one on 11 12.
That would be amazing.
Right now, let me get seed right now.
Where is it? So, uh, I was going to say I believe the Raiders are 8.
5 point favorites.
That's what Vegas is saying for the Raiders.
Yeah, I like him more than that.
I'm surprised. It's only that much.
All right, I believe is 8.5 points.
Excuse me if I'm wrong, but mhm.
Thanks for the tip.
What was the account? Um, prediction wise, I have the Raiders winning this game, which I'm gonna have.
Thio my coach is gonna is gonna talk so much snack to me.
But what do you expect, Bird Winless? We're not.
We're not any good at all.
We're not good at all.
Raiders will put up, I say 27.
We'll get up 27 points.
The defense will make a couple stops, force a couple puns.
Offensively, I want to say 13, but that might be giving them too much hope.
You know what? I'm going to go on our CVS an average.
I'm gonna go 27 to 13.
Raiders win in the Meadowlands? Yeah, they win by 14 points.
Two touchdowns really isn't much of a game.
Maybe maybe we get that.
We'll get to field goals in the first half and maybe a late touchdown to make it 13.
Well, that's really how I see the game going.
I don't see the Jets winning this game, and really, I don't I don't think the Jets win win a game this season.
If we're being honest, we've went over their schedule and passed performances.
The game against the Patriots was the game that was the one we needed to win game against the Chargers.
Chargers granted, are the only like Team under 500 that will play, but they have a much better team than what has been shown.
So I believe sadly, it will be a known 16 season for us New York Jets fans.
I don't know if there's hope.
There's, um, Jets fans in here.
Okay, John Wall trade real quick, making this kind of sticking with the empire sports talk of New York.
I am disappointed that the Knicks did not make a trade effort for either one of them.
I know we want to stay young and everything, but, uh, I would love the Knicks toe, have Westbrook on their team and might stunt the growth of R.
Baird or someone but give me something toe watch, Knicks games for or John Wall at all.
I would have loved to watch John Wall and, you know, the Garden, the Mecca.
But that's just me.
Is the Knicks fan of sad, lonely Knicks fans Like what we're doing with the draft.
We're getting that MAWR the season approaching fast and Empire Sports stock will definitely covered convicts.
But looking at just Houston and Washington's perspective.
It's somewhat of an even trade, just looking at the fact they're both around the same age.
They both production wise, are similar in some facets.
John Wall has never been the biggest three point shooter.
I'd say, Yeah, all right.
And neither is Westbrook.
Westbrook made a living in the mid range, which is d create.
His average is decreased the last couple of seasons, but they're similar player point guards.
Obviously, contracts are almost identical, which is insane, which makes us trade so much easier.
That's why it was such a one for one swap, and then they both have been injury prone John Wall.
Obviously, I can't wait to see him back on the court, especially in the if you watch the videos, the summer runs they've been having.
It's been nice to watch John. We'll get back on the court.
So I think it was an even trade.
I might say the Rockets win this one because they got a first round pick in 2023.
I believe the Rockets it was it was a one for one swap and then believe Washington sent a first round pick in 2023 so neither team, I think, really makes them contenders like I don't look at.
The Rockets is potentially taking down the Lakers because of this move.
Maybe they get to the fourth seed in the second round, 3rd, 2nd round, exit again.
So I see it kind of has a one for one with Houston winning it just for the fact that they got that first round pick.
You know, in the short term, obviously, I might be wrong.
And Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook, which is a duel I will tune in the wash.
That's a do alternative tune the watch, but maybe they'll figure it out.
But feel and wall were so tight, I don't know.
I think Houston wins that trade.
Just the fact they get that first round pick, which which will be huge.
And on that note, that's all the time I have for the night stream.
Thank you so much for everyone in the chat for tuning into empire sports.
Look, Backman, I'll tell you all, have a great weekend and I'll be seeing you on Tuesday for my quick take show.
Same time. Same place.
