I'm Grant Flood from Fluster Sport Zone and welcome back to another SportsCastr.
And tonight I just figured I'd give, you know, spend a few minutes and kind of give my opinion on the Boston Red Sox resigning.
Picture Eduardo Rodriguez to a one year, $8.
This was to avoid our arbitration and yeah, just give me my quick opinions on this.
Of course, Rodriguez came into the MLB in 2015 with Boston.
Played 21 games.
It wasn't terrible.
He had a 10 and six record, which certainly wasn't bad.
I mean, the 120 hits now, that wasn't crepe the only allowed 13 home runs.
That certainly isn't terrible, you know, 98 strikeouts, his career low.
I mean, in reality, this was a pretty successful year.
I'd say his rookie year.
It least it was, and even just progressively got well, okay.
2016, took a step back, played one last game, and he went three and seven, only allowing 99 hits, though, and, uh, 16 home runs.
That's not great.
Wasn't exactly the greatest in 2016 and really 2017 same thing.
It was really 2018 where he really exploded onto the scene.
And this is why I think he really earned this contract.
Now get toe What? The contract I would have gave him in a little bit here.
But again, I think 2018 was when he really started to turn it on the 13 and five record.
Uh, just under 130 innings.
Pitching a lot of 119 hits on Lee.
56 runs, though that's certainly not terrible.
Um, on an e r a A plus 1 16.
And he was ranked or Excuse me.
He was right. Nothing.
2018, Although he did.
Of course, when the world Siri's with Boston that year and I'm pretty sure you had a pretty good playoffs, actually, yeah.
Let me go check out his playoff statistics.
And yeah, they were pretty good.
Yeah, three starts.
I didn't win them.
Didn't lose them overall, though.
Yeah, he played pretty decent overall.
There ain't no seriously.
Okay, so he played eight.
You played a seven games.
Okay, there we go.
I played seven games in the playoffs.
It's allowed four hits.
All right, that's that's actually pretty good for, you know, not pitching often the playoffs.
So, yeah, I think I think that's a pretty good scent line for the postseason, for the most part of them was a key contributor in the pitching staff.
Thio Give the Red Sox the 2018 World Series, then last are two years ago.
He unfortunately missed last year due Teoh a ninja re slash covitz stuff so he had to miss.
Last year, 2019 went really broke out on the scene, a 7 60 win percentage with a 19 and six record 34 game starts that led the league over 200 innings.
Pitchy allowed 195 hits again the only 88 run.
So we kind of kept the runs relatively low for, Ah, large amount of innings.
And yeah, we're all.
He was just playing pretty good.
He was ranked sixth in the Cy Young Award voting and yeah, I mean again, he had to miss last year.
But I think overall he has been a pretty good picture thus far.
Thinks Ese Alexander importune again.
So he's 27 years old.
You just avoid arbitration new rumors have it that the Red Sox might also pick up Corey Kluber.
So what does this mean for Eduardo Rodriguez? Well, I think this is a good contract for this year.
At least again, it is to avoid arbitration, so I kind of get why they only gave it a one year, $8.
But I think next year since Boston's you know, they brought back Alex Cora that kind of getting their way back into the playoff picture just a little bit.
I think next year you're gonna give Rodriguez probably a four year deal worth about roughly 40 million.
I know that seems like quite a bit, especially with the rotation that already includes Chris Sale, who's coming back from Tommy John.
But at the same time, you know? Yeah, keep these young pitchers around.
I would think, because again, you were just getting right back into that playoff contention.
And honestly, I think with the healthy non Covic season, and you know everyone doesn't opt out and avoids the injured reserve pretty much I would say pretty confidently, the Red Sox finish at least third.
Um, without a question, I think the raising.
Yankees, at least last year, finished about Boston the standings.
But at the same time, you're expecting Boston to do better than Baltimore.
And even Toronto made the playoffs last year.
Uh, you really expect, you know Rodriguez would definitely be bad than those guys and to kind of keep them in contention.
Now, here's the other interesting thing.
A couple weeks ago, the Red Sox DF eight pictures Ryan Weaver, Matt Hall.
Two of the worst.
Either starters or rotation guys.
And that was a smart calling.
You got rid of arguably two of the worst pictures on the team, and yeah, I mean, you released them.
You re signed one.
You're better ones. You and Chris sale back.
You should be good.
And now we take a look at the hitting core that you know, they might bring back Mitch Moreland.
Not entirely, you know, confirmed yet, but they might.
I think they certainly have a shot at doing so moral and play great with Boston last year for getting traded to the Padres, any kind of fizzled out a little bit.
Um, Alex Bardugo.
He's I've seen I get better with more experience.
Um, so kind of up in the air about Xavier Bogart's um it will see what happens with him, but you still have Andrew Benintendi coming back from injury.
I know he's kind of had an up and down career.
I think if he stays healthy for the most part E you should produce, I'd say 15 home runs, maybe 60 or so hits, you know, that's decent for, I guess, the middle Mel of the rotation hitter.
And then there are the middle of the deck.
Um, I would also suggest that the Red Sox bring back Jackie Bradley Jr as well, because he's just a tremendous outfielder and you're pretty much just have toe bring him back.
I mean, again, I know right now he's a free agent, but you know, certainly I think a playoff contending teams gonna wanna go after him.
But I would say you already signed him to about a three year deal, if you can.
With around, I don't know, maybe 25 or so million and just kind of hope that everyone else, no.
And I hope you either, you know, stays passion and stays loyal.
The Boston or you just kind of guy I hope that you had over pay him a little bit just to make sure he doesn't go to another team, especially a contender like I am protecting him to go.
But again, I think this was a very smart signing.
And again, I mean, just rumors came out today.
They're interesting saying, Corey, Kluber, I know clubbers, Not the picture he once was, especially when he was with the Indians.
However, I do feel he was kind of cooked with Texas Slash, but I do feel like he could have a bounce back season.
And again, you're replacing either hello or Weber in that rotation.
Pretty much in that.
Not to mention the Red Sox also have one of the better farm systems in the league.
I'm assuming their pictures are pretty decent down there as well.
I heard a couple were close to getting up, and actually, they do have no a song.
I do remember he's a right handed pitcher.
He's actually ranked number six right now in the Red Sox Prospect Pool, along with the ninth and 10th prospects, also being pictures right handed pitcher Thad Ward and the 10th is Tanner Hawk and yeah, I mean, in reality, these two are these three pictures.
I think we could see song coming up to the miner's.
Honestly, maybe sometime during next season, like in the middle of next year or in Hot ****.
I think we're gonna have to see roughly 2022 or so before you really see them in the major leagues.
But again, you just gotta build on that rotation and, you know, get this team back into contending for me.
The hidden chorus. Fine.
I think I would recommend you bring back Mitch Moreland.
Yeah, and Corey Kluber and you bring up a couple of guys from the farm system who I think I personally ready to get up.
You just go for it.
And again, I think this would lead to a least about record than the Orioles and the Blue Jays and maybe even the Rays.
Really? Because Tampa Bay lost Charlie more than they lost Hunter Renfroe.
They have lost a ton of pieces, and pretty much they have Blake Snell.
And you know, Randi arose.
Arena is about to get arrested, but luckily, charges were dropped.
So raised kind of dodged a bullet on that one, but again in Tampa Bay, Really, In my opinion, at least, what they've done this offseason is definitely looking like they do not want to.
You know, repeat Asael champions for whatever reason.
So I'll raise have definitely fallen off a little bit.
You know, again, I think if the hink or state like it did last year in the pitching, you know, mainly the middle of the rotation does its fair share like it did in 2018.
I'm not saying Boston makes the playoffs.
They probably finished second in the division and probably a game or two out of a wild card spot, if not even make a wild card berth, depending on you know what happens in tiebreakers and whatnot.
And again, that really depends if we have 162 game season or not.
But again, I mean, Austin, I feeling a little bit optimistic about the Red Sox this year round the last year.
It's kind of expected that we're gonna stink this year.
I have a little bit more optimism.
Hello, They haven't done a whole lot.
That's really wowed me this offseason, but you know, they've been in the conversation for Francisco and door again.
That's another great way to boost up your hitting core.
And yeah, I guess you just take it from there and we'll see what happens with the Red Sox moving forward.
Things we've got.
Cool pigs, rock and hockey guy.
22284 Turning in.
So, yeah, it's pretty much my opinions on it.
The Red ***ually signed and Juan Rodriguez to a one year, $8.
Thio avoid Abbott duration.
I mean again, I think this was a pretty smart move.
You know, we have Chris Sale coming back. You might.
And Korey Cooper. Rumors came out today.
I'm also trying to think of Well, she got, but yeah, I mean, the pitching, it it's definitely getting better, at least, um, that is for sure.
You still our, uh Yes.
So if Nathan Eovaldi forgot about him for a second, So if Nathan Eovaldi he's pretty decent.
He'll start roughly, you know, 15 games next season, or so I'm projecting.
So yeah, I mean, we'll see what happened.
Dress socks, picture and getting better.
You know they again.
The main reason why the pitching was so bad last year because again he missed.
Rodriguez missed the entire season last year due to injury and co vid, but he's coming back and again.
Remember, he was sixth rank in the Cy Young voting in the A l So keep that in mind again.
Boston Really again.
Their picture back and again there also again.
Chris Sale back.
So I'm feeling optimistic about the Red Sox.
I say Bring back Mitch Moreland and try to re signed Jackie Bradley Jr.
And I think you might be said, and you might squeeze in the wild card game and right in the fact that the Red Sox have never played in a wild card games, I would be very interesting if they actually do make it toe one.
Thinks hard guy to 2 to 8 for the tip.
And you know what? You know what your opinions are again? I'm feeling very optimistic.
I think the Yankees gonna run away with the A with the A lease.
Uh, next year, I think the race is gonna take a step back.
I think they're gonna finish in third.
Orioles fifth, uh, Blue Jays in fourth.
And you know, don't sleep on the Blue Jays, either, because again, they snuck into the playoffs last year.
But at the same time, I'm just not really convinced with the pitching core.
I mean, obviously, uh, Flat Guerrero Jr and Bo Bichette are gonna have great years.
Don't get me wrong there, but same time, I don't really know what the rest of the pitching is going to really do for Toronto.
As for Baltimore, they're still rebuilding mode again.
The raises, a lot of key paces, especially correct.
Morton and Hunter run for Oh, so I think they're going to slow down a bit in the Yankees that they're gonna be fine.
I mean, we've even seen when they've been injured, they still in games and just, you know, imagine with, you know, if John Carlos thank you know, yeah, a little bit better, you know, get a little bit more like his Marling years.
And, uh, you just launch nukes in the center field.
We'll see what happens there.
Of course, Aaron judge is ready to go.
They still have Garrett Cole, um, still up in the air.
What's gonna happen with D.
Lo Mayhew? But I think overall the Yankees will still probably finished first, with or without the Mayhew, but yeah, Red Sox free siren Eduardo Rodriguez.
And that was a pretty smart move, I think, for sure hope you guys enjoy the broadcast.
Influx of sports on saying, Have a good night, A much longer stream Tomorrow, of course, I'll be on well, seven o'clock Eastern time for the power skate show.
Got, uh, A lot of major news this week is still quite about hockey news, so make sure you go tune in and again.
Then Thursday, we'll probably a throwback because, of course, because of the Ravens game was on Thursday, that game got postponed to Monday.
So I'll be doing most likely a throwback on Thursday Friday, either a throwback Friday Night Smackdown or a college game, and I'm thinking about doing some college basketball.
Saturday will be college football.
Most likely Sunday will be probably the Patriots Chargers game.
Then Monday will be Bills, 40 Niners and then to Zander.
What's gonna be next Tuesday.
So Stephen Lover to 983 and G.
Vilna 19774 tuning in.
So yeah, guys, enjoy the broadcast I'm gonna flunk closer sports on saying, Have a good night.
The Red Sox free sign, Eduardo Rodriguez.
And it's to a great contract.
They're not over paying him.
If anything, they're under paying him again.
To avoid arbitration.
They only wanted to give him the one year deal.
Re sign him next year.
J B J and the Red Sox just might sneak into the playoffs next season.
All right, let me know if I'm crazy.
I'll see you guys tomorrow.
Enjoy the rest of your evening.
