Nick's family. What's popping is your boy.
We're here with the F B Gay podcast.
This is episode number three.
Now we're gonna talk about Tom Thibodeau and whether or not he's up to the task to handle a rebuilding situation with the New York Knicks.
Hebrew, Raw, Hebrew.
What's popping, man? How you guys feeling today, my man? My man.
Happy to be here, man.
Yeah, no doubt about it, man.
I'm excited because training camp has begun right now.
There's only doing they're only doing, you know, individual workouts for this week.
And then they're really stuck hitting the ground running next week with group workouts.
But I was listening to Tom Thibodeau today, and I think there's very telling things in there that I want to get into a little bit.
Did you guys get a chance to check out Tom Thibodeau's interview for media day? Absolutely.
It's like a welfare Christians, man.
You know what I'm saying? S So what? What? What was your initial take from the interview? You hit him, hero.
Um, well, can you hear me? Because my Okay, there it is.
Okay, so I was picking up, they were all right.
So the media was asking him.
They're trying to get specifics from him.
Um, he The main thing I got from a couple of fifth number one, he kept saying, We gotta practice Well, for like we need, we need to have established good practices.
And he is absolutely legendary for his killer practices.
So you know that Zatz Not anything, you know, different from what we would expect.
Second thing is, what I like is when he said, I'm not giving out, ah, position job minutes to anybody.
Everybody's gonna earn their minute.
And unlike a previous coach that we had who shall remain nameless e a little flame in my throat, man.
Yeah, you could actually see that Tom Thibodeau meant what he said.
And so whenever whoever the row And you know what else he said he said, Gonna need to choose nine or 10 guys.
He said that which which is also with his eight year history essay Coast.
So we know that whoever you see in his rotation our guys that have earned it in camp and in practice Yeah, that's what that um, evil.
Man like you Look down the list.
I've been doing a lot of research, you know, with the different players and stuff.
Mess around with the different lineups.
So this is like a coach's dream.
Thio have this type of players because another thing, too, Like salaries.
All the salaries are the same, basically.
So there's nobody is gonna take special, you know, treatment or whatever.
So I just can't I can't wait for the for the competition of this group because, like you said, nine man rotation setting music, there's gonna be a bunch of guys is gonna be looking looking in, you know? So it is really gonna be telling for for these players, are they Are they gonna be able to stomach that? You know, because because right up there for for Knicks fans, we want it to be about the team.
You know, real Knicks fans you wanted to be about.
The team is not about individual guys developing.
That the whole you know, stage of life is over for Knicks fans, man, I'm now is about competition.
And it's time, you know, just trying to get busy. I'm happy man.
You know, I noticed an overall theme from the interview that I took waas teamwork playing within the team.
You know, that's something that I took every once in a while.
He would he would come back to that, right, Um, because they asked them about not having superstars.
They asked him about the roster, and you know how how much input he had into the makeup of the roster and he continue? No, he talked about he talked about, uh, you know, his input and their ideas into developing the roster that they have.
You know, obviously they you know, they missed out on Chris Paul Fed Van Fleet, Gordon Hayward.
But he talked about, you know, bringing in guys that were, you know, that was smart, professional.
Knew how to play the basketball game.
Uh, but he kept going into We need teamwork, right? When asked about Oh, you know how people feel about you know how, like the Vegas odds put the Knicks at getting 22.
5 wins and all of this, He's like, I don't care about anything and any of that.
I care about what we do and what we think.
And if we could play within the team, if we could play within one another, figure out when is the right time to shoot.
When is the right time to pass and we're doing all of those right things? And hey would say We're doing all of these things within the team.
Good things will happen.
He didn't say We're gonna be a winning team when you know we're doing this.
Good things will happen.
And I like putting it that way because if you're doing the right things, good things will happen, Right? So he stressed that teamwork and, like Ross said, practice how it all starts in practice, right? He and he stressed it.
I mean, several times.
Um so they asked him, How does he plan to keep players motivated? Especially the young players? Right.
So this is what this is, what he had to say.
Let's take a listen, Thio, Tom Thibodeau.
So that's the first step.
The first that is practicing the right way, having a professionalism and togetherness that will allow us Thio reach our whatever our potential is way.
Wanna build a winning culture that happens day by day.
So oftentimes you you're not gonna jump from 1.
2, You know, the top of the league in, you know, in a short amount of time.
So you have to go step by step.
But we can't skip over any of those steps.
Uh, and hopefully we have the right guys where we could build that culture.
Next question comes from Rebecca Harlow for them.
And let me go ahead and stop that right there.
Um, so you know, that was, you know, that was in response to keeping guys motivated.
Just that little clip right, developing the right culture, going step by step, not jumping over steps.
That's what coaches in the past.
A lot of coaches in the past have done that.
Try to jump over steps.
My question, though.
Is he patient enough to go step by step? Well, absolutely.
I think he's a basketball guy, man.
One thing you know I take about take from it is this that you know, the names we are, you know, we're supposedly skipped out on these different names.
That's what the press and everybody keeps trying to play us into that to that game, but it's not really about the name of the players.
It's about the name of the jersey for the first time and God knows how.
However, man, because I mean, take it back toe Scott Laden when he did to the rocks and and all the way down the line to now it's never been about the The name on the jersey has been about the player, you know, it's all of it.
Should be about the laundry, the Knicks.
You know what I'm saying? So, uh, he's talking just like, you know, what's the name on timetable to sound like Hebrew.
You know what I'm saying? So I mean, like, you know, if he's talking like one of us, man, then then you know there's nothing that does nothing bad.
You could say nothing bad.
You could say Hebrew.
What do you think he can he Can he stay patient? I honestly don't think it's a question of patients.
This is the question right here.
Well, it's not even a question.
Let me put it this way on.
And you've heard you guys have heard this.
A lot of people are saying, you know Tom Thibodeau got against his habits in the past.
You can't wear his players out.
Um, you know, you can't be. It's hard.
I'm gonna tell you.
So he got a system and he's like, hanging.
He's got when he said steps he has and he's gonna go from those things.
He's not skipping it.
He's gonna have I or 10 guys, his top four guys.
We're going to be playing more than 35 minutes a game.
He's not changing.
Okay, Now he might as the season goes on, if they get it back to back, he might give them a like That's the only thing I could see changing.
But, you know, you know what they say, man, when you put goal in the fire, it comes out pure right.
He's about to put this team in the fire.
The veteran guys that he had, that he has gotten all you could say, They're all a journey.
They're all journeymen.
And and and he and he has, we know that he's under the Creole realization that he got a bunch of young players, you know, also, this is what we could say without a doubt about Tom Thibodeau.
He has already studied hours and hours of Nick fell.
He has seen all of these players on film for many hours.
He I mean, you know, he looked at this for many hours.
He knows what he's working with.
What he's gonna dio is he's gonna put them through Tom Thibodeau, fire Andi.
He I'm sure he has an expectation of who's going to survive and who's not.
But he's gonna let his system did take that.
And at the end of this season, this season, I forget the record for me.
At the end of this season, he will have developed some players into Riel, eh? NBA players.
And when this next draft and this next off season comes, they will be in a position to put, like, I believe, the next draft.
There's some generational talent coming out.
We will be in a position to maybe get one of those with a trade with some pics, plus maybe attractive free agent.
But he is goingto make some of these guys that are you know, that don't know what it is yet because we haven't had the development staff, haven't had the management staff.
They're gonna know what it is when it with Tom Thibodeau finished.
And I think that I think that's why Rose hired him.
I think that's part of his function.
To come in and whip these guys and see what they really have.
You're going to see what is God, what is RJ? God, what is Frank? God, what is Mitch got? What is what is the guy? So he has a sister.
When he talks about steps.
He has a system where he does these steps.
That's his own sister.
He's not going to skip a step.
And it is not about patience.
It's about it's about.
I think I used to think it was impatient, but it's not that he's demanding.
He's a demanding coach and he demands you be ready and he demands you pick up the scheme.
He demands you step on the floor, you better be ready to play.
I'm so happy about this.
I'm trying to keep myself calm.
I'm trying not to.
Not to bite my tongue, man.
Swallow my own spitting here, listening to you speak man E because that's what it's all about.
I've been really, really angry kind of about about everyone keeps talking about developing certain players.
Oh, this guy needs to get minutes because we need to develop him.
That's totally the wrong way to go about things.
And you know, the playtime is over.
Thibodeau is not gonna be doing that.
We're not gonna be just playing Frank just because we need to develop them or not.
Still, we need to develop him, Mitch, we need to develop him.
Those days are over.
And if you watched it and you need to watch it instead, instead of looking for clips and and click bait and stuff like that, you need to go to the source and watch it from the source and hear from the from the horse's mouth.
Thibodeau said that that's not what's gonna happen.
And thats zero end of it. That's the end of that.
I was having this discussion with Mark the other day.
Oh, you know, we were talking about we were talking about, you know who is going to start at the positions way began with the point guard position, right? And I know he thought that I was saying that Elfrid Payton has to start.
That's not what I was saying what I was trying to get across to him.
Is that because he was like I say, You just go ahead and throw Dennis Smith Jr out there because you gotta and I'm like, No, Tom Thibodeau is not gonna do it that way.
If Dennis Smith Jr earns the spot, then okay, he earns the spot.
But he's not just gonna throw him out there just because, oh, well, he's the most talented point guard.
He's the most most athletic point guard or the fastest.
No, he's gonna put a point guard out there, whoever he chooses, who fits the criteria that he believes he needs.
Toe win, right? You know, if that's Dennis Smith Jr didn't Dennis Smith Jr fine.
But he's not just gonna put him out there just because.
And I was so glad to hear the interview today because he confirmed what I was trying to get across.
Yeah, that is not the stone guys out there.
He's gonna put guys out there that he believes is gonna help the team when l for pain.
Yeah, pain is not going to just sit back and allow somebody to take a spot.
You see what he did to to that to that to that dude.
What's the guy used to be in Boston when he puts him into the stands? Because he was shooting at 3.3.
This is the type of guy that Alfred painting it and thats why he's here.
People want to know why he's here.
You know that. He's so trashy.
Don't shoot threes. He makes badasses and stuff like that.
But he gives a ****.
You know, I'm saying he cares.
You know what I'm saying? So that means a lot.
That means a lot. He cares.
That means a lot.
Yeah, you know, So I mean, it's gonna be there's gonna be a different vibe and camp this year, and guys better be ready.
You know, like we talked about last time.
There's no more than summer camp stuff.
It's gonna be a different vibe, and they better be ready to to approach it.
This is what Tom Thibodeau had to say about developing a young players and team development.
Now I want to get you guys thoughts on this.
All right, this is Tom Thibodeau, and it's the overall development into building a winning, uh um, organization.
So it's not just the individual player development, but it's the team development on.
I think we have some guy thio have a big upside and, uh, you know, obviously when when you look at an RJ, uh, you you look at a guy like Obi and manual.
And you know our point guards.
We have, you know, several players there, so you know, and I like that there's competition, so, uh, nothing will be given to anyone you're gonna have to earn your minutes on.
Those decisions on the rotation will be based on performance.
And what gives the team the best chance of winning players? Not just gonna get minutes, Thio, get minutes.
You have to impact winning.
You have to put team first.
Uh, there has to be sacrifices made.
That's what we're going to strive towards each and every day.
Yeah, I think we have a very strong staff.
The focus will be on teaching, uh, work eso.
We know there's a lot of work to be done when you look at you know where we stood last year.
There's a lot of ground to be made up And when you look a, you know, the rosters of the teams that were competing against the challenge will be How together can we be the degree of how smart, how hard and how together is going to be critical for us and right there, I mean, that za themes right there, the overall development.
Sorry about that.
That's the theme right there.
I'm glad that part we play, you know, because no, let's go back to coaches.
Let's go back to Fizdale.
Talk that game about Keep what you kill.
But he already knew who he wanted.
But he said at the opening, uh, looked at movie A.
There was no keep it because he already knew who he wanted to play.
Hornacek was he was looking on his shoulder for a year and a half at Phil Jackson, and all he wanted was triangle stuff.
And he started focusing on the veterans that because he was playing for his job, this guy is got a system is gonna be really keep what you kill.
You show up and you play hard.
Look, look, look, look.
Looks like he froze, but yeah, you show up and you play hard, like you said, and you are gonna get your spot on the floor.
Yeah, I'm laughing at the horny *** thing, man, because I want to say, looking over his shoulder, man, that was crazy.
I think Heywood might be in in, like, another realm right now.
E is caught in another dimension.
You know, I'm sure he'll be back.
You're froze up on us for for a minute.
And we lost to their way.
Didn't get the whole the whole thing that you were spitting.
I'm sure there was a lot of knowledge that just went out in the cyberspace.
And what street fighter weighing that? When you When you when you go the Oh, that reminds me.
When I first started coming on here, man, I was like, going into cyberspace.
Yeah, e o sound like he's using a freeze.
These big freezes internet right now.
No, this big crazy.
I'm not dissing you.
We're just saying it sounds like he's the uncle Fiji's Internet right now.
Right? Um but and you know the themes air there work hard in practice, Teamwork not playing unselfish.
You gotta make sacrifices, right? Uh, that's everything.
That's everything that I think he's, uh, he's pushing for.
And it's gonna make this team better right now.
Another question that people always ask, you know, and it was brought up by several of the reporters.
I think maybe E.
Bagley brought it out the best, you know, and kind of it kind of hit it. They're the best.
A couple guys didn't really get to the point.
Uh, but he's asked about how you gonna manage playing the vets over the young guys Right on.
And do the young guys need to play in order to develop? And I know you know, this may have a lot of people up in arms, but this is what he had to say.
This is Tom Thibodeau about playing kids over the vets.
Oh, however, is going to take place.
I think there's a lot that goes into development.
E think, you know, like oftentimes people say, Well, uh, you have to play him in the game and you dio, But you also have right? This is the This is where it starts.
So you've got to get that part down first.
Then you have to have studied film study meetings with your coaches on.
Then you also have the opportunity to use them cheaply.
And so there's a lot of different ways that you can develop, but also understanding Thean importance of winning and how important that is.
And so things they're gonna be earned, they're not gonna beginning to place on.
That's the way, way have to approach.
And again, you know, right there, he says, things are gonna be earned.
They're not gonna be giving the players.
That's the way that they've got to approach it.
It's a message to everybody, you know, and everything that he said.
There's a message to everybody there, you know, from Oh, be topping to Julius Randle, right from your least paid guy that's gonna be on the floor, Whoever that is to your highest paid guy, which is Julius Rand random, which, by the way, ladies and gentlemen, when you look at the next cat, Julius Randle makes $18 million.
The next closest person is under $10 million.
That's a wonderful place to be.
That's the wonderful place to be when it comes when you're talking about your cat that's like, Yeah, our third highest player is walking Joakim Noah.
He's out there high salary right now.
So that tells you how well we're doing it right now, right? You know, it's a new day.
Joakim Noah still on the books, I think is this is last year.
Maybe next year is his last year.
I think I think you might have two more this one order in the next one.
I think this right, Right, E.
I think it's this one in the next one.
Um, but, you know, that's that's the story with With With Tom Thibodeau right now.
I mean, what do you think, man? Do you think? Well, what do you think I like? I like the fact that, you know, you mentioned Julius Randle will be topping.
That's that's kind of like to fight everybody, just really focusing on that.
But nobody's really talking about a guy that I totally forgot about it when I was looking at the rocks and stuff is just, uh, Reggie Bullock.
You know, Reggie Bullock is a good player.
He's not easily, um, he's healthy, you know, you're not hearing anything about his little injury that he was having before.
So I mean, like, you know, a player like him, and then play like, Alex, Um, Burke, whatever.
These guys are gonna put pressure on, a guy like Kevin knocks, you know, even even though everybody's favorite, um, you know, three point shooter killed on guild Rich.
You know, he's gonna be putting pressure on Knox and practice to you know what I'm saying? Not me.
Not, You know, he can't shoot threes and stuff like that, but and, um, and practice.
He's gonna learn what MBA defense is.
You know, he's gonna learn what? What? How to cut.
He's gonna know what with the MBA offenses.
He's gonna know, uh, to snap out of it, you know, because if you don't snap out of it, Reggie Bullock is right there and he got a family, got a life, too.
He's on a one year deal.
He wants to keep playing in the NBA, and he's a good player.
And he's not here, you know, just to just to let Kevin Knox live his life.
You know, he's headed to on to build his own brand as well, so that that goes down the line to every single player that we have.
Even Austin Rivers, like Austin Rivers.
Where does he play? Because, I mean, like all these guys I mentioned Alex Berger, you know, then you got R J and all these different guys.
So, uh, you know, the table is set for the for the veterans Thio take their spots already, But, you know, if these young guys really want what they what they say they want, you know? And if you you fans of these players, you know, if you want these guys to jump up, then then maybe you need to, like, hit him up on on fortnight and tell them to turn the game off.
You know what I'm saying? And listen, listen, let's get watching some tape, you know? And if you know, if you really want to play, you got you gotta get busy, man.
Those days are over, man.
Yeah, and? And listen, these young guys gonna be pushed every single one of them, every single one of them.
Now, he was asked about Mitchell Robinson, right? And I noticed some things in the conversation about Mitchell Robinson.
I'm gonna play what he said about Mitch, and they don't want to talk about it All right Now this is Tom Thibodeau talking about Mitchell Robinson.
No e think he's had some good, really good moments.
Um, but I think he's, you know, he's got a long way to go.
I think the work part, the professionalism to continue to grow, to impact winning.
There's a lot of room for for growth and I think the discipline to, uh, practice well, each and every day.
I'm excited about having him here, where we can get to work with them each and every day and that I don't know where he'll end up.
And I hate to compare him to anyone because there's things that he can do that are very unique.
And I think we were very fortunate getting Roland's no well.
I think he's in some ways very similar.
When you look a Rim protection and where Nerlens ranked last year, I believe in his second in the league and also believed he was in the top five and finishing.
So we're excited about both guys and let me tell you, it strikes me any time when you asked about one player and you transition to another player especially a player in that same position.
Mitch, you better be careful with your position, bro.
Be careful with your position because yeah, definitely signs them up beside them right there.
And there were those couple sentences.
Signs them right up.
That's so let's see if I'm was how he was doing right now.
Yeah, I think you're good, man.
All right. Yeah.
This is the first time that I myself had doubts as to how many minutes Mitch is gonna get because he asked.
He was asked about Mitch and listen, that's a Freudian slip.
You know, he went right Thio.
And then I'm trying.
And Noel was low key.
You could see he was He was trying his best to be low key, professional.
And then when they asked about tips, his face lived up.
And he, like tips, tips is all about the defense and giving people opportunity.
I was like, Oh, shoot, because my thought waas if Mitt springs the ankle and Mrs two or three games, you may not get this on the spot that he may not get it back.
I don't even I don't even I don't even know if it's gonna come down to that.
Noel might win that starting spot.
I can't I'm thinking about that, Magic Johnson.
Meanwhile, he's like, I I don't think he's gonna have to seo.
When? When? When? Noel.
When it was accident.
Well, specifically about, you know, you know, just about Kentucky.
They were talking about Kentucky.
He started grinning like where he's like like the little Grinch grand and stuff, you know? So he's he's salivating.
So he's he's not playing around, You know what I'm saying? So I mean, oh, man, this is great.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, you know, much better. Watch it.
And I've seen someone in the chat say that Nerlens is a G league player. He's a bus.
What, are you crazy? You are crazy.
I mean, he may not be.
I I don't remember where he was drafted.
I think he was drafted in the top 10, so maybe he didn't live up to that.
But we're not getting that guy.
We're not getting someone that we expect to be a top 10 player.
We're getting nowhere.
For what He is a shot blocker, a rim protector, a defender and he can actually shoot and knocked down the mid range jump shots.
Yeah, he gets up in the air real quick to, you know, he's just good at the Rim Runner, as anybody I've seen in the n b A.
You know what I'm saying? There's not the Philadelphia no world, no.
Well, it's the okay, Senior.
Well, it's a totally different animal turned down to $70 million.
He knew he messed himself up.
He said himself back several years and this to me.
I'm looking at a guy that see this here as this opportunity e back.
That's that's what he's looking at.
And so he's gonna He's gonna come ready to play, man, you know? Well, nervous.
No one is never not come ready to play.
I mean, he's always in shape and he's always ready to play.
But this guy smells blood in the water, man and my man, let's be ready.
This guy smells, but Mitch better be ready.
He better be ready to work.
You better come to practice.
He better come to camp serious.
You know, when you hear some of the things that Tom Typical said about Mitch.
You know, of course he complimented him on.
You know, some of the things that he brings, you know, which is his athleticism, the ability to block shots.
But he also recognizes that he has a ways to go, and I think he's talking about a lot of those little things.
If you go back and you listen to the entire interview, Thibodeau talks about doing the little things.
If you do the little things, you practice right, you do the little things.
Good things will happen, right? And Mitch has to learn how to do those little things which no, well, he knows how to do the little things already.
I'm and yeah, we'll see.
Noel may end up being that start got Listen, you know, people, for all of Mitch is, um, ability.
When you go when you look at the numbers, he shot the ball 5.
6 times per game last year.
It would seem like he shot the ball more than that.
That's what that's what it seems like for some reason.
But I looked at I was surprised when I looked at, I said the only shot 5.
6 times for the game.
Seems like he shot more than that, You know, he was getting whatever.
20 whatever minutes per game average.
What is the average eight points, Nine points a game or something like that. 20 minutes.
Um, I mean, the numbers are similar.
Mitch can block more shots.
Um, but they're both significantly.
Yeah, not significantly.
Uh, you know more, you know, because you know, if you do about 30 30 on six minute thing, the well is still there, right? 33 blocks a game.
So he's comparable Thio him, You know, with that e.
I mean, you know, they're both of them runners.
I do like what makes could do in guarding the screen and roll.
I think he doesn't really really well in his length is so much.
Yeah, well, good, but no. Well, does a good too.
And you gotta You gotta compare hands.
Yeah, at the at the five spot way.
Actually, have to me.
We have nirvana because these two guys are going to push each other and they're gonna and if there was, and I think both of them gonna respond to the challenge and it's gonna make us a better team because they're gonna be pushing each other.
So no matter what happens, if nowhere else starts or missed, you're going to see them.
You got what Tom Thibodeau did today.
Is he challenged Mr Robbins? That's what he did today.
He challenged Mr Robinson to become the best basketball player he can, and he's looking for Mitchell Robinson to show up the camp and say, Coach, what? You need me to do whatever and take all the punishment and ask for more.
That's what he's looking for because Mitchell Robinson gives you, Ah, he gives you a laid back vibe.
You know, he gives you a very laid back vibe and timber those an intense coat.
And he needs to see that Joakim Noah intensity when you show up on the court.
No, Well, Nerlens well knows that Mitchell Ronson's learning that, But what Thibodeau did today he laid the garland and he challenged Mr Robbins.
Hey, did he did, and hopefully admits, hears it takes it seriously.
Now, if you listen to Noel talk and he talked about being a mentor, the Mitch developing that brotherhood with him, Uh, and you know what? Well, you know? No, I was 26 years old.
It's not that much older than Mitch.
I feel like he might be a better mentor for Mitch than DeAndre Jordan Waas Because DeAndre Jordan, while he had years in the league and you know he's made the all Star team and those type of things, He's a jokester.
Yeah, he's a he's a good boy and it plays right into what Mitch does.
So that s so they had a natural connection.
Well, it's gonna be a little bit more serious in his approach to the game, I believe, right? And that may be exactly what Mitch needs to take his game to the next level.
I mean, having Tom Thibodeau is gonna help him take his game to the next level, but having a center there, whether or not whoever, however it goes, one of them starts, comes off the bench, Whatever it is, I think they'll both be willing to work.
Whatever happens that I think they'll both be cool with it.
They're both gonna play and get plenty of minutes.
Um, hopefully, no, Well, can be that guy to mention, and I like hearing that you know, I just want I wanna help mentor him, help him grow, help him become the player that he can become.
You know, you can't ask any much more any more than that, you know, from you know, like like he's playing the Taj Gibson role this year with Mitch and in that center power forward spot.
He's playing the Taj Gibson role, except he's going to give us more minutes and more production on the floor.
Let's remember Nerlens Noel has not reached his prime.
Yeah, it s so we're gonna have to fives this year.
Put it this way.
Let's government doesn't let him never get hurt this year, but are five spot is set 48 minutes.
We got 48 minutes of defense right there.
Energy and defense.
Yeah, so I'm not worried about the five.
Spot it all that five spot is set, and that's basically when you look at the tips defense, that's the anger, the defense, the five spot.
So that five spot is set.
I'm really happy that that that was the best signing they did in a couple of years.
Getting nervous? Yeah, definitely.
Uh and we're going to need it.
We're gonna need it, because at the four spot we got two guys is like Swiss cheese.
We're definitely going to need it, you know, tips way.
They're not playing no defense.
They're both gone.
Okay, so I want to see who comes out ready to play on the defensive end.
Who's gonna cover that ground, baby? Because that's who's gonna play.
Forget all them dunks and all that.
Let's see who will show up on the defensive end because he will sit both of them and start bullet.
That right? Right. They will.
He won't play, man.
He's not gonna play right, Right? He will.
He will sit both of those guys are you talking about? Oh, be a little bit.
You know, obviously he talked about what he could do on the offensive side of the floor, but he was very clear that he needs to work on his defense and, you know, with the with the coaching staff that they have in place, he talked about those guys mean, you know Ah, good developmental team.
They're gonna have like, a college style system there, I believe you know, and they got people that could reach everybody.
You know, you got you got Mike Woodson.
That can really get to the veteran type of guys like the Julius Randle's.
Well, I mean, no one is gonna have a relationship with Kenny pain.
But you know, the Noel guys, the Austin Rivers type of guys, right? I believe.
What's in Khost? Austin Rivers and with the Clippers, Right.
Who's that? Uh, Mike Woodson.
I think he coached Austin Rivers with the Clippers, didn't he? Front of mistaken assistant as an assistant Azzan assistant.
So, like those type of guys has been in the league for a while.
You got Mike Woodson that can relate to talk to those type of guys.
And then you're young guys, you know, you got to Kenny pain type of guys and and like, with any pain type, you know, you could still get those guys that college type of feel, that college type of coaching, the rial teaching, like you've seen him working with all be topping and, you know, you know, it's trying to keep his feet, making sure that he has his feet, you know, show the length apart and and those type of things it they got away to touch every single guy where they are.
Yeah, you can't forget about Brian to that coach that we got from Utah.
That Yeah, he's nasty to.
He's closer to them in age and stuff.
And I posted a video a while back, you know, with with him coaching the Geely team for Utah.
And he's like the little things, little things that he's saying to the guys.
Listen, look over here, but, like, talk to you guys, you know, this type of thing.
What are you seeing out there? Stuff like that to get the guys looking at the game with certain ways.
So But, you know, like you mentioned all these different guys, even on Woodson, everybody brings something to the table with the coaching staff.
So it's so it's It's a beautiful mix, man.
So you know, way and be in good hands like like Allstate Way.
Let me give a couple of shout outs here.
Shout out to David Ah, Kovalenko.
He was give you some advice to maybe turn off the camera, and it might stop the lag.
But, you know, you don't have to worry about it now because we're almost through.
And if you're Yeah, you're right.
Uh, Marty Knicks? He said, Wake me up when we get a young coach like Sean McVeigh.
Kyle Shannon a Cliff Kingsbury said, I'm done with these nineties basketball.
No, I think Tom Thibodeau Tom Thibodeau is, I think, the right guy.
See, someone said it in the chat.
Someone said someone tell that food that he was coaching in 2016 2013 Thio coaching.
It s someone telling that that Chicago Bulls was 2013.
Please tell him that.
Please come on the screen.
Coaching United Stopping right, right, right.
I don't know what Mike is talking about, you know, saying, Tom Thibodeau, someone just said someone just said, uh, Tom Thibodeau may not have been the coast of that wanted, but he's the coast that we needed.
And I think I agree with him, you know, because I was looking at, um I can't even think of his name.
Now what? You call it from Brooklyn.
You know Kenny Atkinson? I was thinking about Kenny Atkinson, but Tom Thibodeau, Tom Thibodeau, might just be exactly what you need for that.
I got a little stuff we're talking about.
Kenny Akerson E But it was my second choice, but e Yeah, Tom Thibodeau might just be the guy that we needed, though.
Yeah, with with what he's gonna bring Albert Grant thinking for the super Chatty said, I believe that Tibbs will give Frank the confidence that he lacks and unleashed the beast as well as Kevin Knox.
And the Martinich said Tips is already playing favorites like Fizdale.
She's got Oh, my goodness.
The confidence that give give Frank the confidence that he needs. I mean, come on, man.
You know Alfred, Elfrid Payton and all the other guys on the roster that that that on the possibly I'll play Frank for his minutes.
Those are the ones that gonna put the fire under Frank to get him to play better. Exactly.
Exactly, um, all in all, man, I think that I think that speaking way gonna we're gonna give Give him the right stuff so we could get right.
All I know, I think that Tom Thibodeau sent a lot of messages that he probably already sent to the team, right? It's got to start in practice.
It's all gonna be practice.
You know what I'm saying? What you're doing practice.
It's going to determine whether or not you're going to get on the floor.
You know, I'm saying, you know, you know, when he talked about when they said when they asked him about the young guys and this and that, you know, he said, Yeah, they gotta play, but they gotta learn how to do it in practice first.
All right? So I mean, that's that's that's what it's gonna be practice and then teamwork.
I don't see any evidence on the team, man.
So, you know, everybody gotta get busy and practicing while obviously on the team e.
I will say this, though.
I do believe Obi toppings gonna end up starting because what, even though he's 22 like Randall is 26 now and he's been in the league seven years.
I don't think you're going to get much change from Julius Randle.
I just don't think so because he's been in the league seven years.
B has developed a lot just over the last 24 months. Bond.
I think that's going to continue, and he's got the attitude already that he's ready to run through a wall for the New York Knicks.
So I'm thinking you're going to get him starting at the four.
I'm thinking is gonna end up starting.
I don't I don't know if he's going to start right away.
Maybe he ends up starting.
I think that, um, there are few things that I think Tom Thibodeau is gonna like about Julius Randle.
One of them is the brute strength and his ability just kind of be a bowl down there.
And then just just because he's been in the league for a while and, you know, there's a lot of competition at that position around the league, you know, and his ability Teoh, you know, understand what's going to be there.
I think that maybe something that Tom Thibodeau leans towards a Z they play.
Obviously it's gonna be It's gonna be over toppings position.
One question that I'm gonna have is what kind of relationship can Julius Randle have? Or will Julius Randle have with Obi topping whoever starts like we're talking about Mitch and no Wells, right? Both players seem like they will be fine with starting or coming off the bench with Julius Randle and Obey Topping.
That might be a different dynamic.
Yeah, and maybe a different dynamic.
And, you know, Julius Randle should want to say, you know, I wanna help this guy get better, but I mean, he's clearly looking at his replacement.
And Mitch, maybe he's looking at his replacement.
I mean, you talk about Julius.
Randle was on, you know, he still has two years left on his contract.
The last years, a team option.
Got a multiyear deal with Mitch.
Noel has a one year deal, right? Mitch? Mitch, You know he has this year.
And then the next year, while he could be looking at his replacement, Mitch could or Noel could be looking at Mitch and saying, You know, I got to try to beat this guy out or whatever the type of they both come off the bench in their careers, right? You know, Eh? So I'm interested to see how that dynamic works with O.
B and Julius Randle, Regardless who start to come off the bench.
Do they have that camaraderie that I think Tom Thibodeau's Look, I wanna tell you, you know, the guys that played with Julius Randle last year that are going to be on the team this year, that's what I wish.
I could see the practices he's gonna do that stupid spin moving practice and they're gonna be stripping it.
Yeah, e don't think it's gonna do with this E don't think he's gonna e I don't think he's going to do it this year like he did last year.
E think that Tom Thibodeau is going to put a stop to it? Yeah, that's not gonna be in the playbook, period.
I think I think it's gonna put a stop to it on and and then and then maybe teach him how to do it correctly, because a lot of times he had to spend move towards the baseline.
But he would spend towards the middle of the floor, right? Or, you know, or or vice versa, you know, So he would spend into the traffic.
I feel like Tom Thibodeau is gonna put a stop to that spin move.
Yeah, there was no rhyme or reason.
There was no rhyme or reason for him to make that spin more he was just spinning, spinning.
And then he's like, Whoa, what to do next? You know what I'm saying? So it's not gonna be that type of type of thing anymore, But I want to ask you guys about about this power forward and stuff.
There's a lot of people talking about Toby Topping being in a small forward to start with Julius.
What do you think about that? I don't like it, but I just wanna No, I can't see it.
I don't see him having good enough footwork to guard the reason.
Foot work's not there.
Yeah, and 455 Yeah, they decided to go small ball.
They could do some small ball.
Five defense would be atrocious, but they could do some small ball.
And that's another thing about, you know, with O B.
I think he's gotta work on that foot.
Works and more, you know.
I mean, you know what he well, he was able to get away with in college.
I don't think he's going to be able to get away with in the n b. A.
You know, I mean, a lot of times in college, he was able to just jump through his defenders to get to the basket.
It's not gonna do that in the MBA Z.
That's why they're comparing to marry a lot.
Because, Mario, in the beginning, he was just jumping over guys, you know, just dropping both feet and just jumping over, guys.
But as he got older, he met.
You know, Kareem, you know, not Hakeem Olajuwon.
And you got some footwork in there.
So, you know, hopefully Obi is on the on this, you know, that's not even hopefully I just know that Opie is gonna be on that way for, like, he's gonna be trying to get better, because just the way he talks, he talks like like like a self made kind of kind of guy.
He's not looking for anybody to give him nothing.
He's gonna be working on his own, you know, without Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I definitely agree with that.
