Actually, 100 yard touchdown.
It is an absolute magician.
They sleep hello and welcome everybody to the trainings and have some additional Livestream pregame show for Syracuse. N. C.
State for any of you that they're actually watching this game.
Glad you could join us.
I'm here with Kevin Wall, and Cristian Guzman is always How we doing? Guess pretty good.
Pretty good, considering injury injuries from football, football transferred, Transferred over to the basketball team? Unfortunately, yeah, they eso a quarterback quarterback, a returning returning starter.
Yeah, indicating the Rex Culpepper is going to get the start and Dylan mark works.
That's probably some are almost every fan once this.
Each Kobe and Morgan has not just for today.
After the injury, he suffered, uh, to his upper body, his head, Uh um, during the Louisville game in the third quarter.
So he's out of the game.
DeVito is still in active as well, even though he's out of his walking.
That's good to see for him, at least, but it's gonna be cold Pepper.
All likelihood that will start the game, which will I know, will upset many fans.
I think the more intriguing story, though, is what's happening on the line.
And Stephen definitely touch on how that effects.
Um, the game today? Yeah, That'll be be interesting to see.
Apparently, words come out from Stephen Bayley that Dakota Davis is currently wrapping at the starting left guard with various Tisdale is the right guard, which means Chris Elmore is back in his original full back tight end.
I mean, for all we know, he may actually be playing the line, but likely that means he's back in his full back, tight end position.
Um, uh, well, I'll be very curious to see what What kind of looks he gets there.
Uh, to me, this means that Davis has looked like, you know, he looked a little shaky at times last week or the week before and his limited reps, But it seems to mean to me that he's, uh he's kind of worked his way back in, Um, also some of the communication issues we saw last week between him and Aaron Service or Carlos Federal.
Oh, maybe alleviated with him on the left side, working with the same group that he worked with last year between federal.
Oh, and Bergeron.
Uh, eso that could be could be a function of that as well.
Um, other intriguing things since we've seen that Rex Culpepper is likely out there because of Senior Day or I mean, Dino may think he has.
He gives us the best chance.
We haven't seen anything from Markovich yet.
Uh, Markovich, Mark Markowitz.
We'll figure it out when the announcer stones.
Uh, yeah, but that kind of do we do, we see.
Ah, Do we see Culpepper for a quarter for senior day and then, you know, roll with the young guns? Or does dino think that Culpepper is the better option right now is that something will need to be seen.
And from the line standpoint, whether Chris Elmore, who is a true senior, uh, not getting reps at line what that means for him and Aaron Hackett as true seniors in the full back, tight end slot.
Wait, do CMR on defense.
I think we all want to see him play defensive back eventually because the safeties air just that depleted that he'll probably needed there.
He moves like a rover is not built like one, but he moves like one.
I still want to see him as a short yardage quarterback because I want to know who is going to stop him sneaking the ball.
Remember that one Kansas City Chiefs play where they had? I think it was, uh, Demo Repo or whoever it was who taken the Wildcats snapping and jump pass over the line.
Yeah, yeah, I think you know, that was one of my things to watch.
This is a you know, it's it's been a brutal season.
Um, it's the last home game.
We don't know who is coming back.
We will certainly speculate that on that night coming week.
Uh, but I think, you know, it makes sense for Culpepper to start one, because it is the senior day.
He's one of the guys that I would actually be surprised if he did come back at this point, but to I think, you know, Dino was a little bit more open this week and his coaches show talking about what the seasons looked like.
Um, really talking about how close s u was canceling games because they didn't have seven healthy offensive lineman.
And I know Steve, you talked about this that include the £240 tackle, you know, is one of those seven guys.
So when fans talk about Markowitz coming in and playing right away, I think people don't realize that if you have seven or eight healthy offensive lineman, how many reps in practice can your third string or fourth string quarterback remember, freshman quarterback didn't come in the spring, came in the summer.
How many reps can you actually get in practice? And, you know, kind of, you know, talked about putting young guys out in positions where they don't get hurt.
And we saw Morgan, unfortunately, take a bad hit last week.
And so I think you know, some of the whether Mark which places depends on the game.
If it gets away early, you might see him.
But I think if it stays relatively close, people should prepare themselves to see Rex the full game here and even next week on the road against a Notre Dame team that unleashed a ferocious pass rush last night against Sam Howell.
Because while we want to see young players, I mean, I think last week we saw the reality of what could happen when you know you take a team that's not playing well.
That's banged up all across the board and you throw up brand new quarterback in there was not ready to play.
Um, you know, I think you have to think of a long term, too.
So hopefully fans can I know I'm talking to the Syracuse fans here, but, you know, exhibit a little patients here and what you're calling for, but I think way new this season wasn't gonna be normal.
But I think we were getting a glimpse of just how far from normal expense for seriously, Yeah, I think the more the more the off season ramps of, the more we're gonna actually get coming out about how, for lack of a better description, how stupid this entire season.
Waas um you know some of the weird things as to how much they were practicing, whether like how they were practicing.
Like you said, If there at seven offensive lineman, that's not even enough.
You've got your first team running the scout team.
Uh, how many reps can you possibly take as a former college offensive linemen and current still fat kid, there's only so much you can let these guys run.
Uh, like there's there's a lot of a lot of reps and not a lot of bodies to take them.
And there's a reason that we split that into, you know, the scrub team, the scout team and the first team and that you, you know, have a balance between the two and that you're not just running the same guys out every single play.
And speaking of that Scout team stuff like Remember before the Vita got injured.
Morgan and Markowitz.
We're taking reps with the scout team, and we're not running Syracuse's offense at all during practice, but may be the only experience they had with the Syracuse offense before the before the injuries happened was the for so weeks during summer camp.
That's not a lot of time.
That ad equated with an offense that is as fast and can at times be as complex, uh, Steve Baylor style offenses.
And even then, you're still those weeks that they had, that they're still running the scout team.
So even though it's scout against, like there, they're still running the S U offense.
They're running it at a pace against issues first game defense.
So you're not seeing the success.
You're not working with the same, you know, the place aren't coming off.
You're not seeing what's actually happening with the offense.
When you've got, you know, bare Black and Jonathan blowing up your second string offensive line the entire time, you're not gonna get a feel for your time and you're not gonna get a feel for anything in the offensive.
So, uh, even that limited amount of time The head was until the Duke game, until the week after the Duke game, they really wouldn't even have seen any hide nor hair of, ah, true feel for the offense.
This is a Syracuse program that desperately needs not only a spring ball, but some hope that the CIA extends spring practice, a za result of numerous bull cancelations and what schools have faced over the summer.
So, um, you know, fingers crossed that there's some extra time built in for coaches, toe work with players.
But Christian, there was one other thing that I think would be of interest to you that Dino Babers talked about.
And that was Luke Benson and how they've got to figure out ways to get him the ball more next year and even referenced their tight end that they had at Eastern Illinois when him and Gilbert were there.
So I know you've harped on this from the beginning of the season, but it's gonna feel good at least finally here. Babers.
Admit this publicly and keep in mind.
Like I said in my tight ends, peace during the first five week, which feels like, uh, 10 centuries ago.
Now, um, this is a baby's problem in terms of getting both his tight end.
Do you remember raving on Pierce and the kind of impact he had on offense, especially in short yardage situations? He was extremely effective in short yardage situations.
Is Benson that type of guy? Not necessarily.
But he's shown a great op opportunity to make himself available as a wide receiver that kind of time.
Sit nicely also, until my point in my class things toe watches who steps up and makes themselves available as an option in the passing game because from the Limited all 22 shots we've seen, um, it doesn't seem like the Syracuse routes that they're running are complex because the playbook has been simplified.
Uh, from the start, of the season just because of lack of spring ball.
And due to the fact that the quarterbacks that are running the system aren't at all advocated and familiar with the complexities that the Baylor style offense is going to get to eventually, that means that the routes are supposed to be simple.
And once they're done running the routes, the wide receivers haven't really done anything to get themselves open or even got themselves open from rats in the first place.
We're so used to seeing Harrison Johnson burn guys down to feel like we did early in the season.
We haven't seen that same separation pretty much ever since the Georgia Tech team on Ben.
When you take a look at some of the other opponents that Syracuse has faced, I know the wide receivers are much more talented when you're looking at, say, flowers and to to act well.
But these guys are getting a ton of separation from the Syracuse defensive backs, even though they are freshmen.
But when Syracuse receivers are making catches, it's almost always contested.
So can a circus wide receiver reduced something with the natural talent that they have to get themselves open and make a play for themselves on Benson Cadet Tree.
Be Ah, great way to do that because his speed is gonna burn.
Most people covering him, especially if it's a linebacker, because you don't expect that speed coming from a tight end.
I don't want to be curious to.
I mean, we talk a lot about him a tight end, having watched a lot of blocking from him.
He is not optimal at that.
Um, do you just prognosticating next year? Do we see him shift more to that outside possession receiver? You know, he's that big body that can go up and get over somebody.
Remember, that's the type of tight end that Syracuse has also been recruiting.
The past couple of recruiting classes Stephen Moore Jr and Landed Morris are essentially the same type of tight end that Luke Benton is, um, or receiving migrate tight end.
So even the sorcerer supreme himself, Maximilian man.
So like, is can you find a way to get those guys? The ball is something that still needs to be worked on because, as you mentioned, the blocking from them isn't going to be their primary focus and it's not necessarily what they've built their game on.
I think eventually if you saw this often, you know, operating the way we wanted.
Teoh is if you're spreading the field with your outside receivers and you've got elusive slot guys is your tight ends.
We should have opens down the middle.
And you talked about Benson.
You know, having a mismatch on a linebacker is if you've got safeties cheating to the outside to cover Harris and quickly on deep throws.
You've got the middle of the field open and your tight end is going to be running right up the scene, you know, And if there even or if they're a threat to hold the seam and hold the safeties in the middle, then you're keeping that one on one on the outside.
So you could see, though, if Mahar and Morris of these other guys are are able to develop that, Benson could possibly move to the outside world where he can hit those deep routes, be available for a slant and also be an extra blocker, because I think people forget that is one of the things that we missed on the outside and throwing those quick screens to the slot.
Guys, you need someone who could block in front.
And Steve Fishman was especially.
You know, a great example of that type of receiver that Syracuse had, and that makes your often to click a little bit, you know, even just a little bit better and right If if Rhino does come back next year and you have him at full back tight end, you have Mahar another year in the program.
You've got Meng Hackett technically could come back.
I don't know whether or not we'd see him come back, But, you know, if you have those options, you you can work.
You know, maybe he has a little flexibility.
He already knows the title playbook, you know, run him outside a little running inside a little playing wherever you can.
Uh, like you said that stock blocking would be immense out there.
Well, having that opportunity to, you know, hit a seem and just burn a DVD like there's, there's a lot of ways you could get creative with this roster, and I'd like to see with the full offseason what they could do with it.
I mean, that creativity is gonna be so important because just like last year, once the last time other than Anthony clearly slant route have we seen a Syracuse quarterback throw the ball inside in between the hashes.
It's not that all often this year at all, it's almost exclusively been sidelined.
Passes outside the numbers.
So, like a little bit more creativity from that, which could be a Luke Benson's streak route down in the slop could could greatly help.
Syracuse is, uh, offensive creativity.
So how about the other side of the ball and not so much of this game? Because I think you know weight is gonna come out and I think run the ball a lot.
Like to control the clock.
Would not let Bailey Hawkman make too many turnovers, make too many mistakes.
But what have you guys seen from some of the young players that that are promising for moving forward for next year? It's the main.
The main thing that pretty promising is that there at least getting time? Um, I really that's really the only thing I could take away.
I mean, the the big thing is still to run defense, and Jonathan Lyte is probably gonna have an absolute field day against Syracuse.
But we mentioned this in the slack check last week.
Uh, were in the Louisville game is that some of the angles that these guys were taking to ball carriers is just abysmal in terms of their run defense, which is partially the reason why, um, they've it's partially the reason why they've really, um, given up somebody yards on the run.
On the flip side, the man defense is actually still putting pretty good.
It takes a special wide receiver like a safe flowers in a two to act well to get separations from the safeties.
If they're manned up on a guy zone.
Coverage still needs work, but the safeties have been pretty good man college as long as the wide receiver isn't first team all HTC quality.
Yeah, and that's been a big thing to me is that other teams have had to move those first.
Those always succeed receivers away from the cornerbacks to try and get him the ball.
Um, I thought that was especially telling with BC and Louisville, you know, because those guys flowers and long are their offense, and B c struggled to get the ball Thio either guy, you know, in an effective manner.
Despite trying Thio and Louisville, it took them a while to hit that well in a big play.
But Syracuse really contained him pretty well for the most part in that game.
And to me, that's like if both those corners air back, I think it makes the defense's job a lot easier to try and integrate guys in the middle.
Hopefully, Erik Cole would be back.
You know, to help more with that run support on Ben.
Guys like Hannah and Greenwood could be used a little bit more in coverage.
But what about you, Steve? Have you seen anybody? That's kind of stepped out for you? Yeah.
I mean, it's been a weird I mean, Stefan.
Well, freshman on defense in general, you've got to talk about Steven Thompson.
Um uh, you know, big showing.
Basically, at this point splitting time with Richards.
Richard's not seeing as much time as we expect is a believes is he Richard sop****re now, uh, junior Richard sop****re.
I think it's a Richard Jr.
I had the roster because I was looking up when you when you started talking about the freshman.
We have 38 of our 100 guys that are either freshman and redshirt freshman A to this point like true freshman or redshirt freshman.
And how many of them are dressed for this game? That's the big thing for this game.
I'm not asking you to count, but I'm guessing, by a rough estimation, it's probably 95% which is just going through.
Which is anybody that Yeah, which is, as we said a couple of weeks ago, once the last time a division one program in general dressed it more than maybe 70% of their freshman.
If that right, yeah, at this point, we have to.
There's no other option, right? And it's not only dressed, but how many of them are starting.
What was it going into this we were talking about in this, like earlier in the week? There's what, six guys that are starters with a guy behind them where none of those positions were on the on the too deep at the start of the season, like there was nobody that way didn't even see their name.
We're on our 4th 5th string quarterback fourth string quarterback.
We're on our seventh string running back because I still yeah, e can't wrap my head around that, uh, we're down to all freshmen in the secondary who actually have been performing admirably as we've noted.
But like, there's there's a lot of s So when people say, Oh, every teams dealing with cove it every team dealing with this No, every team is not dealing with this.
And I would even point out like, Look at Nebraska.
Look at L s u Look, a Michigan and Penn State who one of them is going to get a win today.
E mean, those air rosters that air far we would everyone would agree, have more talent than Syracuse.
And, you know, teams they're struggling, so I wouldn't put it as, uh oh, this is on Lee.
You know, some, you know, negative against the Syracuse program.
You know, this year it's been quite unusual season and, you know, hopefully they'll be better for it moving forward.
I mean, we're also talking about freshman.
We'd be remiss if we didn't talk about Garret Williams.
And what an excellent job he's done. A cornerback.
Remember, he's a redshirt freshman and this is his first year starting.
And, uh, I talked about a couple weeks ago a zwelling on this site.
He in the bottom.
We need to be receiving a lot more national attention because I still think that with all the targets they received, they still haven't let up a touchdown when they've been targeted.
Which is just mind boggling to know that he has been excellent coverage and considering the guys he's gone up with as well.
He's covered Amari Rodgers and to to act very well and gotten interceptions off both of those guys when he's target when he's been targeted against them, which is not something you would normally see from a redshirt freshman.
I mean, he should be a freshman All American.
I think e don't expect him to be a first team all A C C just because of the record.
Uh, I mean, we just know how it's going to go.
I mean, I think you're gonna struggle to get e think if Syracuse put some guys on the second team, that will be a good thing.
But you know that freshman all American team get one should definitely be on that one.
We've got a couple of minutes before kickoff, so we should probably talk about today's game.
And what are we looking for today? Way? Want? Thio? I mean, we don't want to.
We can't really deflect and talk about basketball right now and make us feel better way.
Really? We could.
But at the same time, you know, for a football pregame show, we should probably finish it off talking about football.
But before we give our predictions, I'd say we let people know that the rest of this weekend feel free to head over to home field apparel.
Kevin and I are both ripping the shirts.
Amazing field to, um, amazing customer service.
Follow if you ever want the counters pretty pretty solid with some quips on Twitter also, they'll make you hate Indiana basketball more, but and he kind of will actually be joining Andy and I on the show tomorrow night.
But if if you guys want Thio, get 30% off your order this weekend through for their black Friday promo all the way, I believe through Sunday because we're using the code tomorrow night too.
So I think into Monday morning, you can use the code BF Nunes for 30% off your order.
So I took advantage of it and got a U C.
Irvine Anteaters shirt because it was just really awesome.
Uh, before we get into predictions, breaking news coming in.
Uh, Chris, Elmore said on Orange pre game.
He's playing fullback for the rest of year, and he has changed his jersey number back to five.
Which means we're all changing our predictions to a Syracuse went, Yes, I want to get a touchdown.
I think Elmore gets a touchdown today.
E don't know how they're just gonna get the ball into the red zone, but he's going to score.
No Syracuse Syracuse leading rusher today is going to be Krystle more.
It's not to be Sean Tucker.
It's going to be crystal more perfect.
Tuck, jump! Elmore back.
E You can't carry e on your back.
Technically, technically, a penalty.
I've been called for Well, Z e c c reps to know their rules.
Yeah, not hold my breath there.
E I don't I don't think this is gonna be a close one.
I think it's probably gonna be another ugly game toe watch offensively.
Um, but, you know, look for the silver lining in the dark clouds.
I'm excited to see if Syracuse can give us a senior moment.
Maybe it's Elmore.
Maybe Rex will hit another long throw.
But before we see something fun would be nice.
Yeah, I think all of us were within, like, five or 10 points on both sides of spreads for the predictions of like, s u loses by a good chunk.
So and does and doesn't score much either, for that matter.
Yeah, I think I think I called Schmidt happening at some point.
But beyond that, it wasn't wasn't really.
It's so sad that we haven't seen too much of Schmidt happening this year just because Syracuse hasn't ever gotten into field goal range at all.
You need to get inside the 50 for him to remotely even the thought of so that be That's been a stretch at this point.
So but the end of the day, we will have, uh, Seymour football than Ohio State fans will today, and we will have one more win than either Penn State or Michigan.
God, I forgot about that tie possible.
We could still be ahead of them, so yeah, Gotta love it.
Alright, guys, we're almost a 12 o'clock.
So, uh, thanks as always for joining us and go orange, Warren Gorge.
