00:00:05
Hey, welcome to the new film room for this week, Week 11 of the NFL.
00:00:10
And today it took me a minute to decide who I was actually gonna do this.
00:00:14
All 22 film room breakdown on.
00:00:17
But after I washed the Saints and Falcons game, I made my decision and it was easy for me.
00:00:25
Very, very easy.
00:00:26
Taysom Hill, the Saints quarterback who Sean Payton decided to go with other than Jamis Winston when Drew Brees has gone down.
00:00:37
With what? 11 busted ribs.
00:00:41
My goodness, now on the surface, you looking at the statue Looked like he had a heck of a game.
00:00:46
But let's go into the game itself and find out how good he actually waas.
00:00:54
Was he as good as the stats say, or was there question marks about him? I want to know.
00:01:01
I figured you want to know? Let's get into it right now.
00:01:08
Second drive of the game for Taysom Hill and this is his first egregious error in this game, and I mean, it's agreed. It's bad.
00:01:16
It's bad.
00:01:17
Okay, he loses a chance not only for a first down pass, but a monster game.
00:01:22
Possible touchdown.
00:01:23
Uh, depending upon water.
00:01:25
Emmanuel Sanders does.
00:01:27
But let's watch the play, see what happens.
00:01:33
He takes a snap.
00:01:34
He's looking around, takes off a little bit of pressure on the left side, gets four yards on the scramble.
00:01:42
All right, so it's a four yard play.
00:01:44
So you're like, How could this be egregious If it's a positive gain? Four yards? Well, let's watch what happens and what he misses on this play, because what he misses is terrible.
00:01:55
I mean, absolutely terrible, because he should have thrown the ball to two different guys on this place.
00:02:01
Now as we watched, Let's get through the 1st 23 seconds, right, right here.
00:02:08
Bam! Keep going now, right here.
00:02:12
At this point, this is where he should be, throwing the football 2.
00:02:16
5 to 3 seconds into the play.
00:02:19
The ball should be being released, and this play designed is made for 2.
00:02:25
5 to 3 seconds to get rid of the football.
00:02:28
Now, obviously, he can't throw the football up here in this receiver because why he's covered and the corners got good inside.
00:02:35
Leverage can't throw to him because he's not even moving.
00:02:38
He's got a linebacker right behind him, obviously can't throw to him because, well, I mean, there's a guy with hands all over.
00:02:46
Well, first off, well, what about him? He's already moving this way.
00:02:50
The guy covering him doesn't have the speed to keep up.
00:02:54
He could throw this right here because, as you see, the corners back is turned.
00:02:59
He could catch this ball, probably get the edge and probably a first down before the corner is able to turn back and make the tackle.
00:03:08
But the bigger Plato watch is Emmanuel Sanders, because, as you see, he's already got inside leverage.
00:03:15
He's already got the inside leverage on the corner back, and he's planting right now and taste them is staring him down right now, right now.
00:03:28
So he's already got inside leverage and he's planting, which means he should know.
00:03:33
Anticipation is paramount to be, ah, starting NFL quarterback.
00:03:39
So he's got to anticipate if he's planting with the inside edge already, if he throws the football here, he's going to get the football and uncontested and uncontested catch right here because he'll have separation from this corner really, really quick.
00:03:53
And then Sanders, we all know what Sanders could do after the catch.
00:03:57
He's one of the best YAC yards receivers in the NFL.
00:04:00
The only guy that's gonna be able to stop him is this safety right? Right now because none of these guys we're gonna get him and this guy is gonna be too far behind.
00:04:11
The only guy is just safety.
00:04:12
I'll put money on.
00:04:14
I'll take Sanders over Falcon safety any day, all day, twice on Sunday.
00:04:20
Let's watch what happens.
00:04:23
He waits, he turns.
00:04:24
He starts to feel a little bit of pressure coming off the left side.
00:04:27
Turns out now, right here, he could still throw to him right here on the outside edge.
00:04:33
You could catch it **** near, get a first down or look at the open space for Sanders.
00:04:41
As I said, Anticipate, buddy, Anticipate.
00:04:45
Sanders is wide open right now.
00:04:48
Now the safety now because he waited and he rolled out this way.
00:04:54
It did not anticipate the throw earlier.
00:04:56
The safety's got better leverage with he throws this football.
00:05:00
Yeah, Sanders will probably catch it about right here if he throws it right now, but the safety would be about right here as composed toe where Sanders would catch it right here when the ball's caught.
00:05:11
Sanders would get tackled immediately afterwards, but instead Hill decides, You know what? I'm gonna go with my gut instinct for what I've been doing since I've been in the NFL and use my legs.
00:05:28
I'm gonna pump fake to try to draw this, uh, guy off of me, but it don't work, and he's just gonna tackle me for a whole four yard gain.
00:05:41
So Taysom Hill took a four yard game over a possible first down or even a big play 26 30.
00:05:50
Even a touchdown play had he anticipated the throat.
00:05:56
Now that's his first NFL start, So I'm gonna give him a little bit of leeway.
00:06:01
I think that, uh, the more experience you get started in the NFL, the better you're gonna get as as your career progresses.
00:06:09
But that is a very, very bad decision on Taysom Hill.
00:06:14
Same drive.
00:06:17
And if you look you're about where the position would be if he had thrown the ball to Emmanuel Sanders earlier, okay, that he missed.
00:06:25
Now on this play, he shows the complete opposite of what he showed in the first clip.
00:06:33
He showed anticipation and it's beautiful.
00:06:38
So I think he learned from earlier anticipate where your guy's gonna be.
00:06:42
Let's watch the play.
00:06:49
Now. He takes a snap.
00:06:50
He looks to his right.
00:06:52
No one there looks to let Oh, wow, Trautman.
00:06:56
Nice.
00:06:57
Nice.
00:06:58
Now let's watch this in slow, Mo.
00:07:00
Because what he does here is gorgeous.
00:07:03
What he does on this play is absolutely beautiful.
00:07:07
He looks out here to the right side after the snap, going through his progressions and noticing.
00:07:13
Neither guy is open, neither guys going to get open.
00:07:17
The wide receivers do not have the position on this play to throw the football.
00:07:26
Now he looks he looks over there.
00:07:31
No, no, not good.
00:07:33
Not good.
00:07:34
He looks over here and he sees the Trautman is making his cut right now.
00:07:38
Now he's got a guy underneath and a guy over the top, But he knows that Troutman is gonna come this way.
00:07:44
And these defenders, they're going to continue because this defenders following, uh, the running back out.
00:07:49
So this is gonna be a open throwing lane right here.
00:07:52
It already is.
00:07:53
He's already got the ball. Cops.
00:07:55
Look, he's got the ball copped and he hasn't even completely made his stop yet.
00:07:59
The guy's not open.
00:08:00
He knows that if he throws the football here, Trautman is going to be open and have room to run up this direction.
00:08:06
This is an absolute gorgeous, anticipated throw to Troutman, who's opened by five yards all the way around him all the way around him and is able to turn back upfield and get this first down.
00:08:20
This is gorgeous anticipation on a sort throw by tasting Hill.
00:08:27
Beautiful play.
00:08:28
And I hope to Seymour of this as I watched the film on this play case in Hill makes another error on this play.
00:08:38
He's not looking all the way around and seeing defenders, and he misses an opportunity for a touchdown.
00:08:45
This play, Dr Ends two plays later in a field goal.
00:08:50
He has an opportunity for a touchdown right here on this play, but he misses it, and the touchdown is right in his line of vision, and he focuses too much on one receiver.
00:09:02
Granted, if there is a wide receiver that you wanna focus on its Michael Thomas, but not on this play, let's watch the play take snap looks.
00:09:13
Oh, my goodness.
00:09:15
What in the world, homie? Alright, so let's watch the play going into slow motion Now.
00:09:25
First off, if he's gonna throw, he's looking at the running back right now.
00:09:30
And he knows that if he throws this ball out here to the running back album Camara, he's going to catch it.
00:09:35
And he always got to do is make one move.
00:09:37
Make a guy miss, and I like album.
00:09:39
Camara's chances to get in the end zone for a touchdown, but he doesn't take that shot, which I would have took it.
00:09:45
But right now you got Michael Thomas coming across.
00:09:48
If you through this ball right now, right here in this window, he's got a linebacker on him.
00:09:54
That's a touchdown.
00:09:57
What's he do? He looks now.
00:10:01
Now he sees Michael Thomas coming around the top, stops weights.
00:10:08
Now he's throwing this football and he's gonna throw it on this line right here to get to him.
00:10:13
The problem is, he doesn't see the Sam.
00:10:18
He doesn't watch the Sam the Sam Lut Tamara go and is in zone fitting in zone, so he's watching his eyes.
00:10:30
You can't make this past because he's watching the eyes he's gonna reach over here and snap you.
00:10:35
He's gonna slap that ball right out of the air, but right on the same line.
00:10:40
Look over here, Jared Cook.
00:10:42
Jared Cook has got the edge.
00:10:44
Always got to do is come around.
00:10:48
If he pump fakes this and throws the cook now right out here, that's a touchdown all day, baby.
00:10:58
That's a touchdown.
00:11:00
Instead, he threw it over here to Thomas.
00:11:08
Man.
00:11:09
Thomas had double coverage on him.
00:11:15
You can't do that. Cook.
00:11:17
Easy touchdown easy if he just threw this ball over here.
00:11:21
Easy Touchdown.
00:11:22
He's seen him coming around the back side.
00:11:24
He should have thrown that.
00:11:25
You don't throw that in a tight window when it's your first NFL start, where you have another guy out there in the back of the end zone.
00:11:34
Cook, whose mid making plays for the team all year.
00:11:39
My goodness, come on, guy, choose who you're throwing the football, too.
00:11:46
I get you like Michael Thomas with a linebacker on him.
00:11:49
I would like that, too, but there is too many bodies in the area.
00:11:54
Don't throw when there's too many bodies, and especially when one of those bodies look I mean this.
00:12:02
This is an interception waiting that happened when he throws his football.
00:12:06
Too many people here, too tight of a window for this small but cook cook.
00:12:15
There's one on one.
00:12:16
There's no one but the guy that's covered him.
00:12:19
Make the throw out here.
00:12:20
Jared Cook used his big body to make that make that catch.
00:12:24
This could have been an easy touchdown, but instead they end up settling for a field goal.
00:12:31
Here's a play where Hill shows complete composure in the pocket under the rest, and he does an amazing job at this play, leading a receiver waiting for him to hit the open spot in the field, even with a guy barreling down on him.
00:12:48
Let's watch this play.
00:12:49
This is gorgeous by Taysom.
00:12:52
Here.
00:12:53
You got Thomas and Motion.
00:12:54
He comes up.
00:12:55
He does a little little slant route.
00:12:57
Oh, good, right as he's getting hit.
00:12:58
Nice Pastor Thomas.
00:13:01
My goodness.
00:13:03
Now let's watch this again.
00:13:05
Now, first off, when he fakes this play action, what that does is it brought the linebackers over here.
00:13:16
They brought him up in this way, which opens this side of this opens the middle of the field.
00:13:22
It puts a little bit of space right here between them and the safety.
00:13:26
So you got Mawr room right here and look how much.
00:13:29
Look how the corner is given Thomas all kind of space, and he's got the inside inside leverage on a post route.
00:13:39
Really? This is all day tasting is going to turn around and see.
00:13:46
Hey, I know Thomas is getting ready to run this post, right? Right up here and look at the space. Now.
00:13:54
What he does is he's gonna wait.
00:13:57
He's gonna wait for this go route to clear this out on the post and he sees number 55.
00:14:07
He's barreling down on him, so he's gotta wait until the last second.
00:14:10
He's gotta wait for him to bring that corner down as far as he can because Thomas is breaking Now Thomas is breaking this post right now, so he's waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting.
00:14:26
Look how Look how long he waits to start to throw this football before number 55.
00:14:32
He waited as long as he can tow let that receiver on that Gore out, dragged that corner out of the play and the safety has to turn and cover him.
00:14:43
The safety has to which opens up even Mawr space here.
00:14:48
This is as good.
00:14:52
Ah, play all the way around that any quarterback in the NFL could make right now in the NFL.
00:15:00
I wouldn't expect better from Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson. It doesn't matter.
00:15:05
This right here is beautifully done all the way around the patients, the the way he used to play action, the way he's, uh, just completely calm and collected under pressure.
00:15:22
Now he throws his football bam, right at the last second, getting hit right as he throws the football because he waited, waited, waited, waited and he let him.
00:15:32
He led Thomas well out there to catch this football.
00:15:37
Thomas obviously catches the football, has room out in front, the safeties way out here now The only thing I could say about this past is that he could have been a little more accurate, but because he waited so long, he didn't.
00:15:56
It's hard to throw a really accurate pass under the pressure that he's on under right now.
00:16:01
Now he steps, steps, steps.
00:16:06
Wait, wait, wait, Throat.
00:16:09
But that's still a beautiful pass.
00:16:13
Yes, Thomas has to jump up there to catch the football.
00:16:15
If he didn't have to jump up, if he could have caught it in mid stride, he's probably gone down the field.
00:16:23
But either way, with that kind of pressure that throw that, that's just gorgeous.
00:16:32
That's just gorgeous.
00:16:34
My goodness, that's the play of the game so far that I could tell from tasting Hill in this game.
00:16:41
That is just beautiful, beautiful heck of a throw for a guy who is considered to be, I mean, not just a throw, but the whole play is I'm explaining.
00:16:53
The whole play is just gorgeous for someone that's young that no one thought could be a starting quarterback.
00:17:00
That is just a gadget guy.
00:17:02
That right there shows he has every tool in the book to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
00:17:11
With all the beauty of the last play that I showed this one right here.
00:17:17
This is in decision.
00:17:18
This is that's all this play comes down to is just the indecision of Taysom Hill, not enough experience to realize when he needs to get rid of the football.
00:17:27
You hold that football too long, you've got to get rid of the football and there are opportunities to throw this football.
00:17:33
And he just is indecisive.
00:17:36
Let's watch the play take snap looks.
00:17:43
I see two or three places he could throw the football Instead, he holds onto it too long.
00:17:49
Hold on to it.
00:17:50
Way too long now.
00:17:54
Lots of protection Early on, he's got great protection right here.
00:17:59
Right now.
00:18:00
He's got great protection, beautiful protection.
00:18:07
And as of right now, he's got two guys.
00:18:09
He could throw the football, too.
00:18:11
Two of them do you see them? And he's looking in that direction right now.
00:18:20
If he was, he could pump fake this way.
00:18:24
He could either throw it here and it's gonna be a contested catch right here because you know, the safety will come down and hit him right about the time the ball gets there.
00:18:33
Yeah, Like I said, you could even throw it or you could pump fake it real quick and throw it out here because in a half a second he's open.
00:18:45
You lied that you lied.
00:18:47
Now he slows down on this route.
00:18:50
But if tased him throws this football out here right now just leads him.
00:18:55
It'll make him run to the football.
00:18:58
It'll keep separation from the corner and he'll be able to catch the football because the linebackers not getting to him, the linebackers standing still and he's already in motion.
00:19:08
He's moving.
00:19:10
So if he just let him right now out here so that he would have to run to the football to catch it, that's all day, baby all day.
00:19:20
And that's a That's a catch.
00:19:21
He'll probably catch it turned upfield.
00:19:23
Now the corner probably tackle him, and he'll be like two down, like two yards short of the first down.
00:19:30
But he'll have gotten a big positive yardage in this play.
00:19:35
Instead, he still waits, waits, waits.
00:19:38
Now he's got another throw he can make right now.
00:19:42
Now this is a tighter throat.
00:19:43
Don't get me wrong.
00:19:45
This is a tighter throat.
00:19:47
But he could throw this bad boy right here.
00:19:50
He'd have does.
00:19:51
He'd have to rocket tastings, got the arm.
00:19:53
He's got a strong arm, and if he just hum that, football would be high enough for him not to reach him.
00:20:01
On the other hand, he would have to make this move over here.
00:20:05
He'd have to throw that as hard as he can right here.
00:20:09
And he might have a chance to swat it down.
00:20:14
But he wouldn't because the ball would be up too high.
00:20:18
You throw it a little high, but not too high in a place on Lee.
00:20:23
The receiver can catch and you rocket that ball up here and he could get that ball out.
00:20:31
Now you think Obviously this guy out here, there's no way you can't throw it to him because that safety will will break out in front of him and intercepted.
00:20:39
But because of the indecision, he holds onto the ball too long and he gets sacked for a three yard loss set.
00:20:49
You cannot be that indecisive.
00:20:53
And on top of that buddy, you're outside the hash marks right now.
00:20:58
You're at the hash marks.
00:21:00
Throw the ball away, throw the ball away.
00:21:03
Don't lose three yards on this plate.
00:21:05
Throw it away.
00:21:09
I know you think you could handle.
00:21:11
I know you think you can handle a linebacker one on one in the open field, but you're a quarterback and you're behind the line of scrimmage.
00:21:20
Remember what you're doing.
00:21:22
You're not a running back.
00:21:23
This ball was not handed off to you.
00:21:25
This ball was not passed to you on a screenplay.
00:21:27
You are the quarterback.
00:21:29
You are going to lose yard if you have the option to throw the football away and just take a loss of down rather than a three yard loss on top of it tastings.
00:21:40
Got to realize Get out of that.
00:21:42
That whole, uh, thought process that Hey, you know I'm that gadget guy.
00:21:50
He's got to remember.
00:21:52
I'm the quarter back.
00:21:54
I have to play like a quarterback.
00:21:58
Yes, I love Taysom Hill.
00:21:59
One on one in the open field against the linebacker.
00:22:01
I've taken nine out of 10 times, but not here, but not on this situation.
00:22:08
You gotta throw that football away.
00:22:10
My God, you've got to throw the football away.
00:22:13
Hey, guess what? Taysom Hill shows Good.
00:22:17
Good decision.
00:22:18
He, uh, he makes a quick, decisive decision, throws the ball hard and accurate.
00:22:25
And uh huh knows what he's doing on this.
00:22:28
This is Oh, my God.
00:22:31
This is such an up and down game for Taysom Hill.
00:22:34
There's more positive.
00:22:35
It seems like in this game he learns from mistakes as he's playing.
00:22:39
And that's why experience.
00:22:40
It's so important for a young quarterback in the NFL.
00:22:44
Let's watch this play as it unfolds.
00:22:51
Got the motion, man.
00:22:53
Sanders turns steps one less than two seconds and that ball is out less than two seconds.
00:23:01
And that ball is out and that is a really good deep pass.
00:23:06
Not like deep, deep, but accurate.
00:23:09
Strong.
00:23:10
Decisive.
00:23:11
My goodness.
00:23:14
Now watch this.
00:23:17
He uses this play action and he's throwing the football.
00:23:23
He knows right now, it's about one toe 1.
00:23:28
5 seconds into the play.
00:23:30
Look how deep the center fielder is playing.
00:23:34
Look how deep.
00:23:36
I mean, he's 22 yards off the line of scrimmage.
00:23:39
22 yards.
00:23:42
He knows at the 40.
00:23:44
Thomas is going to stop and turn.
00:23:49
He's already ****ed and ready to throw the football.
00:23:52
Thomas is making this cut.
00:23:54
If Thomas does not slip here, he throws that football.
00:23:59
Thomas slips.
00:24:00
He throws the football right here.
00:24:03
Now the placement of this football is beautiful.
00:24:07
Okay, let's go back to the where he's at.
00:24:10
As he's slipping, he launches this football.
00:24:13
He puts his football here.
00:24:15
Why? Because no wake in this corner.
00:24:20
No way can this guy make a play on the ball? No way.
00:24:23
Not not Not when he's got outside leverage.
00:24:26
Thomas slips.
00:24:28
If he did not slip, there's a chance.
00:24:30
He catches his football and curls around the safety and it could be gone.
00:24:41
But he slipped. He had to reach out.
00:24:43
Come back for it. Catch it secure.
00:24:46
Either way, that pass watch hills entire throwing motion in this play, it is perfect.
00:24:59
I mean, perfect.
00:25:01
Even the handoff.
00:25:02
This fake.
00:25:05
That's gorgeous.
00:25:06
He holds the ball back.
00:25:08
That's a good play.
00:25:09
Action! Fake.
00:25:10
Right there.
00:25:12
He stops, He looks plants, those legs he put, uh, Hold on.
00:25:19
We got to go back.
00:25:21
We got to go back.
00:25:24
Watch how he plants and puts all the power of this throw on his back leg right here.
00:25:31
He brought that leg up right here.
00:25:35
He'll hop forward.
00:25:37
He'll plant that back.
00:25:38
Right leg and push.
00:25:42
And right here.
00:25:43
This is where all the strength is coming from.
00:25:45
Right now, All the strength of this past? Yes, he's throwing with his arm, but there is so much extra strength to this past because of that.
00:25:53
Push off with his back.
00:25:54
Right leg, Right here.
00:25:56
and he launches a rocket.
00:26:00
A rocket.
00:26:03
Perfect.
00:26:04
There is no way anyone makes this catch other than Michael Thomas.
00:26:09
And if Thomas hadn't slipped, he wouldn't be on the ground right now.
00:26:13
He would be catching this football and curling around the safety that it's a perfect pass by Taysom Hill.
00:26:24
Perfect pass, I'm telling you, I know that tastes and had some parts in this game where he looked bad.
00:26:34
But there are other parts of this game where he just looks so good.
00:26:38
This throw right here and the throw earlier.
00:26:42
It just goes to show that he's learning during the game.
00:26:46
He's learning during the game, and that shows great great progression for a quarterback.
00:26:54
I think that the next time he goes out there and starts, he's gonna be even better than what he was. This game.
00:26:59
Now it's the Atlanta Falcons defense.
00:27:02
So take it.
00:27:05
Take it, as as it is because it is the Atlanta Falcons defense and they're used to giving up big yards.
00:27:11
So, you know, wait until we see Taysom Hill against a good pass defense.
00:27:16
But here he's making the right reads at the right time, and he's learning from the mistakes when he's becomes indecisive.
00:27:25
He's learning from his mistakes about, UH, looking players off and throwing the football and accuracy waiting patients in the pocket, things like that.
00:27:36
He's learning as he plays.
00:27:38
And that is something that you can't ask for more than that from a quarterback in the NFL.
00:27:44
I can't wait to see him in the next game.
00:27:47
Now I understand why Sean Payton went with Taysom Hill over Jamis Winston when Drew Brees went down those cracked ribs.
00:27:58
I completely understand he knows Taysom Hill.
00:28:00
He understands what Taysom Hill is good as compared to what he's not good at and is able to game plan and form a playbook around him against a team that they know very well in the Atlanta Falcons.
00:28:14
I believe that this is not necessarily ah slight against Jameis Winston.
00:28:22
It's just, they know, taste them so much more than they know Jamous Do.
00:28:27
I think that tasting has earned another start for Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints? Absolutely.
00:28:34
I think that he showed a lot of promise in this game and I believe that, uh, his next game, he's going to provide even Mawr spectacular place and improve on that decision making and quickness and making those decisions.
00:28:49
I think he needs to learn how to throw the football away still, Uh, rather than just think Hey, you know what? I can make a play with my legs when I have to.
00:28:58
Sometimes just getting rid of the football is a good idea.
00:29:01
Alright? Especially when you already outside the hashes and you've got somebody on you.
00:29:06
Close proximity.
00:29:07
Sometimes taking the loss on downs is better than taking the loss on downs and a loss on yards.
00:29:14
So I wanna thank everybody.

With only a few weeks left in the fantasy football regular season, plenty of owners out there are fighting […]
