What's going on? Everybody welcome into another broadcast here on SportsCastr.
I appreciate you guys tuning in.
As always, I am here to give you a quick preview of the Villanova Wildcats Boston College Eagles game tomorrow night from Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
That's where BC will actually play their first four games of the season in this very unique season amid the coronavirus pandemic.
But, yes, college basketball is back Wednesday for the teams that aren't dealing with covert outbreaks.
They do get Thio begin their 2020 and 21 season tomorrow night or a majority of college basketball teams anyway, and Boston College happens to be one of them.
And how about the test they face in their opening game of the season? Number three ranked Villanova Wildcats will be in their way tomorrow night in the semifinals of the two K Empire Classic on Yeah, I mean, obviously, this is a game where Boston College will be by far the underdogs in this game, and it would be shocking if they were to pull off the upset.
There's no doubt about it, but Jim Christian, head coach of Boston College, You know, he even said he wanted to.
He wanted Thio give his team the best experience, and he thought he'd give his team the best experience this season by challenging them and putting together a tough schedule.
Boston College have one of the most difficult schedules in all of college basketball.
Um, and you know, a few months ago they didn't even know if there was going to be a season.
So now that they're fortunate enough to have a season, why not, you know, have have a solid strength of schedule and challenge yourself throughout the season? It doesn't get much harder than Villanova, though in the opening game.
And so looking ahead of this game, obviously, Villanova will no doubt be the favorites.
But I also want to look ahead to what may be the entire season has in store for the B C Eagles.
Obviously, they've been underwhelming these last this last decade, really, Um, and focusing on Boston College and Villanova in particular.
They met plenty of times back when BC We're in the Big East with Villanova, but they haven't met since 2000 and six, when these two teams actually collided in the Sweet 16 of March Madness Villanova won that game 60 to 59 in overtime.
But, yeah, BC's last winning season hasn't come.
Uh, since the 2017 and 18 season.
Eso they've been they've been sub 500 pretty often over the past decade.
Um, but I think there is reason to have some optimism about the team.
And why not? Because there's really nothing to lose in a season where here already, obviously, in the A C C, which is a very difficult conference, especially for a team like Boston College, you just simply don't have enough talent to compete with a lot of these A C C teams.
But then, when you look at their nonconference schedule to like Villanova, um, you know the challenge is going to be really There's no string of easy games by any means this season for B C, but why would be a little optimistic is because there are some names to look out for.
Obviously, Mitchell would be the name that I would highlight because he was in all a C C and a C C all defensive team selection last season.
Uh, this will be his fourth and final season, so he's a true veteran on this team.
2 steals and one block last season.
Just one of six players in the nation till his team both blocks and steals.
And he's just overall a very fun player. Toe watch.
He's an intelligent player, his worth what his work ethic is there.
He's also extremely unselfish, Um, and he's an influential leader of this BC team.
So Mitchell will no doubt be a player to look out for with the Eagles this season.
He's very fun to watch, and he's a huge part of this team. Also.
Heath, looking on the young side of things, had a really, um, impressive freshman year, where he led the team in scoring, averaging 13.
1 points per game.
Hey had 65 3 pointers in just 31 games, which was a record for Ah, freshman at BC also reached double figures in points 26 times, including the final 15 games of the season.
So I feel like the future of of Heath is very bright in his college career, as he still has three more years to go.
If, of course, he plays all four years at Boston College, which is expected.
Eso Heath is definitely a bright spot in this team going forward.
An interesting name toe.
Also bring up is Winston Tabs.
It's been about 18 months since he's last played in a game.
He suffered an injury that forced him to have knee surgery and missed the entire 2019 and 20 season.
He did average nearly 14 points, four rebounds and three assists in 15 games for Boston College in his freshman year prior to picking up the injury on, and he was also considered one of the best young guards in the nation on while it has been, you know, a big setback for him.
Obviously missing 676 days, to be exact.
If he can get back on track and if he can get back to where he was in his freshman year, uh, and really get back to form, then that would be a huge game for this Eagles team because he was definitely missed the last season, a season in which BC ultimately finished 13 and 19 on, then also a reason why this team has a lot more potential is because there are a number of transfers that I think could be set to make impactful contributions on.
And when it comes to making an immediate impact for BC, I'd put Rich Kelley and Frederick Scott in that category.
Now Kelly, who played that Quinnipiac, averaged 16.
2 rebounds per game last season.
Frederick Scott, meanwhile, who went to Ryder, averaged 12.
2 rebounds and 1.
4 assists last year.
So these are two guys who are obviously at smaller schools, but I think will make an immediate impact for this.
BC team Also Makai Ashton Lankford, who is from Worcester, Massachusetts, not too far away from Boston.
Ah, local kid out of Brewster Academy.
We'll be able to play for B C for the first time, Uh, after transferring from Providence last year.
So that's definitely exciting news for the Eagles because he did have to sit out the 2019 and 20 season due to NC Double A transfer regulations.
Hey did appear in 63 games for the Friars from 2017 to 19, and his career high in scoring, actually, fittingly came against Villanova, who BC are set to take on tomorrow night, where he scored 20 points and was a perfect four for four from three.
So maybe that could be a bright spot for BC in an attempt to maybe pull out.
Ah, miraculous upset against Villanova.
And while BC have struggled historically speaking, I believe they're six and 56 against teams ranked in the top five all time.
They did beat number one Duke back in 2017.
So who knows? And upsets always possible.
And I do feel like since this team is one with not much expectation, considering how disappointing they have been, uh, these last few seasons, I feel like they could be overlooked by some of their superior opponents that just have, you know, head and shoulders more talent.
Then then Boston College and BC are playing a ton of great teams.
And so maybe they can, you know, maybe they can pull off a miraculous upset.
Obviously, it will take a miracle and icy Villanova comfortably defeating Boston College tomorrow.
But looking down the road and in the future, there is talent on this on this Boston College team there is, you know, there's They've got some veteran talent in Mitchell, like I mentioned.
And then they have some young talent, some great potential, these transfers who could make an impact as well.
So I think there should be some optimism with this Boston College team.
Obviously, there's a long way to go and being in the A C C.
It's always gonna be tough for this Boston College team.
And, uh, and with one of the most difficult schedules in the country, yeah, I expect them to finish with a losing record again.
But But maybe they can.
They can find some bright spots and, uh, and start building towards the future.
Uh, because because there is some talent there, obviously they will face a lot of challenges considering their schedule.
And I'm looking forward to seeing this team back on the floor.
I think a lot of us are looking forward to the return of college basketball in general, and and I like, in a way, how at the head coach Jim Christian is challenging his team with this schedule, you know, right off the bat facing number three ranked Villanova.
That will be tomorrow Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.
Eastern Time, The two K Empire Classic that will be on ESPN.
Um, and we'll see what what? BC CA ndu.
But I think looking forward down the road this season, we'll see if this team can progress.
I I have a feeling that they're going to get off to a little slow start because with a good amount of transfers is, Well, um, that that will, I think, get get impactful minutes, Whether that's in the starting lineup or off the bench.
I feel like it's going to take time for them to jail together.
But maybe by the middle to the end, to the to the latter part of the season, they can.
They can start Thio start to reach their full potential on DSO that That's an exciting prospect, I think.
And so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the Boston College Eagles back on the floor.
And, hey, the challenge will will be there right off the bat, and we'll see how they deal with it with the Villanova Wildcats tomorrow.
And then they'll have a game the very next day against either Arizona State or Rhode Island s O that should be.
That should be a good challenge to kick off their 2020 21 season in the two K Empire Classic, for sure at the at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Bubble Ville, as they're calling it or Conte Forum South, if you like for this 2020 21 season.
Kind of like a temporary home to begin the season, although they will have plenty of home games at a Chestnut Hill at Conte Forum as well.
But yeah, Looking forward to the 2020 21 season for the Boston College Eagles, they face a stiff test tomorrow night in the season opener against the Villanova Wildcats, 9 30 ESPN.
And don't forget Thio.
Keep an eye out for those names that I mentioned for Boston College, both veteran and experienced players, some some freshman and sop****re that definitely showed what they could dio in their freshman year.
In the case of Heath anyways, and then some transfers that I think can make impactful contributions immediately and we'll see.
Couldn't up step being stored tomorrow.
Highly unlikely, But that's why we love college basketball.
There isn't upset once in a while, and maybe Boston College can pull it off against Villanova.
The season starts tomorrow.
College basketball is back.
And BC Take the four from Mohegan Sun Arena tomorrow night.
Thank you, folks, for tuning in.
