Once again. Welcome to the Saints Preview.
We will be preview in the Denver Broncos.
Um, game this coming Sunday.
The game will be a 305 The game will be here on SportsCastrs.
So once again, thanks for joining us.
We'll preview the Saints and Denver Broncos game, so we'll send.
We'll put the co hosts in.
So if you want to come in and talk to us, you could do that through the co host.
Um, that's a co host feature.
Lett's first off. We'll talk.
We'll have the Sean Payton.
Um um audio conference call when they will have the big Fangio press conference talking about the Miami Dolphins bond talking, and then we'll preview the third game.
So once again, thanks for joining us here.
So let's go ahead and begin with our weekly conference call with Sean Payton talking to the media.
So let's go ahead and do that speaking here, let us know.
Yeah, yeah, right.
Stuck with them.
You know, it wasn't by any means an easy decision, because I feel like we have to really capable in really good quarterbacks that, uh, that air in the building already.
And so, you know, a lot went into it, and it's kind of how we arrived at it, but a perseverance impatient standpoint, though.
I mean, yeah, who was willing to do a lot of other things for you In the meantime. Yeah.
Listen, you wanted to play and make a mistake when the When we claimed him off the film, it was as a quarterback of our vision was not as those other things and those air and results after he was here.
But our vision watching the film, I've told it a number of times that, you know, started watching practice, what receiver? And then pretty soon started watching more of the tape, more of the tape.
And then here was that evening.
Next day we were put in a claim in for So he enjoys playing.
And you can't help but notice that when you watch his snaps in a game, Sean, Okay, It's still gonna be a week decision or what you say Jason did enough.
Yeah, we're not making any big announcements.
That's not a you know.
And so, um, you know, we thought he played well.
We thought there were a lot of things.
We did well in that game defensively.
Obviously, we won the field position.
Want a number of situational battles? Um, I thought we ran the ball well, especially in the second half in.
You know, I think it was a good team when it was a really good team.
Went against, I think, a good football team.
I know the record doesn't say that, but, um, when you look at the games they played this year in the games they've been in, you know, that was the team that we've got a lot of respect for, and so, um, yeah, but outside of that, you know, well, we'll take each week with the approach.
What's best for our team? I can't.
Great numbers so far.
This year before this game weren't great.
Um, did he sort of break out in this game? Who is this? Something that was sort of coming all year.
Look, there's a couple things that go into that sometimes your packages might come from uneven front.
Sometimes they come from an outfront that could affect the end.
Especially a guy like cam over on the right side.
Um, man it was, it was it was good to see his production.
And yet there's a lot of hitting production, sometimes in rushing the passer.
And, um, you don't always necessarily get to see that the end result, which is, you know, what a stat line like a sack, you know, there's hurries, there's hits, there's all those other elements that go into it.
But, um, you know, you keep, you keep working, you keep going harder.
It's it's tough to rush the passer.
I mean, it's tough to do it, especially in a game where it becomes a little one dimensional.
You know, that takes energy.
And the one thing camps had throughout his career is this Stamina in in the ability is always in good shape.
So I think, more importantly and just pleased with how we're playing defensively.
So can you talk about the production of that You talk E Yeah, I think overall, the groups on a really good job and you can point to David on your mono.
You can point to Trey, you can point to ah, handful of the different tackles that have been in there.
Uh, you know, Sheldon, when he was healthy Tuttle ropes.
Um, you know, there's a number of those guys that are getting snaps.
Carl has got getting snaps, and I think that rotation has helped us.
And I think that, um, each week we've tried to come up with the best plan of of how to play those guys and then how to play the defense were planning Sean you reference case.
I'm saying that you saw more than that with somebody like Trey Hendrickson.
Obviously you all see more than anybody else did you see this kind of season coming or even get a little bit surprising to you that the production that he's provided this season well, look, it's hard to make predictions relative Thio the actual pitch counter productions that you're talking about the you know, the totals.
I know he's a tremendous worker.
I know he's in outstanding shape, and I know he's healthy, and all those other things can tribute to what you're seeing now.
And it's a credit to him, the players around him, and I'm happy for him, you know, and I think he would tell you it's important to win, but I think it starts with the other elements of how he works, how he trains.
Uh, you know, all those things.
She's like a complimentary of yesterday.
One thing you thought of the overall the last month or so You guys have fun, The ball expression Well and protected.
Well, also, yeah.
Look, we're doing well.
We've had a few different guys in and out of lineup with a couple next and injuries And yesterday's front is different relative to maybe some of the fronts we've seen.
Um, you know, you're getting a lot of movement from Tampa Bay and so, you know, hard slant angle defense where your landmarks can change protection, they can change in the run game.
Um, you know, it's it's difficult to prepare for that.
And then it actually, uh, simulate that what is going to be like on game day? And I'm sure that having gone through it yesterday, you know, we're only two weeks away from seeing it again.
Eso you have players go down with Andries whatever injured, and it is how much as a coach in the coaching staff, you just ****ing embraced the challenge of, you know, trying to figure out how we're gonna get it.
done there are job is to embrace the challenge before the injury.
We're developing everyone in the building.
You know, the roster. That's that's our job.
So we're not just coaching.
The starters were coaching the guys that maybe you're gonna play a role in that game.
And also guys that are on the practice squad and e mean, we're trying to develop everyone uh, in and look at how these players that air here can fit and help us.
Um, that czar are our job.
And so then when someone has to ascend into a different role on game day that, uh, we're able to prepare them for that role.
Sure, you put your finger the reason behind the increase in turnovers lately.
No, that's a good question.
Uh, something that we're aware of them.
We want to clean up.
Um, wait a wait again.
I met the turnover enforcing.
All right. Um, yeah.
I mean, look, the first thing that comes to mind when you when you have a game that becomes one dimensional in your opponent's passing, it's harder to play offense in you can. You can.
De sacs hurries.
And generally speaking, There's more risk in the Rose and you know your chances of interceptions go up or fumbles go up in the pocket.
John, you said that it was a difficult decision last week on which quarterback to go with after the game after it went so well, um, was that 1 may be a little bit more personally gratifying because oh, ****.
Okay, once again, Sean Payton's press conference, I will go to Big Fancy.
Oh, let's go ahead and go to Big Fancy.
Oh, we're going to him one second to put it up on the video screen.
We'll go over the big fans.
You're talking about the game with Miami? Uh, talk about Let's go ahead.
Do that to waiting on feed to come up one second, give us a second toe on, get the feeds up.
Yeah, if they start with a couple injury questions how to Glasgow and lock come out of the game.
Drew came out of the game.
I don't think it ever really ended him that much.
Um, any reports in good this morning? So no residual effects there.
Glasco didn't finish the game.
As you know, uh, just kind of felt his leg a little bit, but really might not have been his calf that was bothering You may have sustained, you know, maybe altered his gate or something.
But he's got a little store in this in his lower leg, but I don't think it's anything serious.
But last one on injuries you expect shall be back this week.
Possibility not guaranteed.
Uh, last thing for me that your pass rush with the six sacks yesterday.
A lot of five seconds.
How impressed for you with your coverage on the back end, but also your guys effort upfront to stick with it.
I'm both, you know, you know, you felt that during the game.
Sounds like you did some research on the, uh time that the quarterback had the ball there.
But for us, Thio get six sacks.
You know, you know are starting defensive lineman has been out for a good bit of time, you know, case he's been out, I believe since the second game, and Mike's been out since, e don't know Game four or five and shall be has been out.
That's the third game he's missed.
So when your entire starting defensive line is out, and obviously Bonds been out for us to come up with six sacks with all the guys in there that are rotating in there speaks volumes to those guys. The fight.
They have determination.
And as you alluded to the good coverage on the back end this morning, it took a couple for you.
One is Is Donatell back in in the building this week and then not not today is not.
Don't know if that will happen or not. This week.
Okay? And the other one was given that Brett ripping had taken so much of the work with one's last week.
And then Drew gets off to the over six.
Start with the pick.
Was there any thought, uh, you started? Get tempted to maybe put bread in for a Siri's or so or was we're going to stick with through regardless.
No, I thought never did cross my mind.
And the work Brett got last week, the bulk of it was on Wednesday.
Drew got the bulk of it on Thursday and Friday.
Thanks for Brian.
Coach, I know you guys switch to intensive protocols.
Do you really think that because you have been doing it for a month.
It'll it'll put you ahead of the curve there that that your routine is developing.
I guess there's no real way to quantify that.
But to know that you've already been doing it, there's not a lot of extra planning.
Let's just keep our fingers crossed, our toes crossed, arms crossed.
But yeah, the new protocols that the NFL instituted league wide last week really did not have any effect on us.
We were able to continue doing it the way we were doing it.
Thanks it, coach.
It seems like a lot longer, but for Drew, it's only been 13 game and we've seen the highs and lows.
What is the key for him to then? Kind of find that consistency? What? What can you learn from a game like yesterday where you don't have the you know, the really big guys way? Well, the one thing we did as a team yesterday was we ran the ball better.
We played good defense for the most part, and to me, those air quarterback, especially young quarterbacks, two best friends and he had them yesterday eso the more we could do that as a team, the more he'll be able to develop in a more logical in a more logical progression, a za relates to him specifically.
I mean, we just have to be able to, you know, eliminate the bad plays, you know, the interceptions, you know, make the right raids.
You know, make some easy completions.
I'd like to see him get off to a better start.
Obviously, that we've been getting off, particularly as it relates to the passing game here in the last few weeks.
So those are some points advances.
I think we need Thio focus on this week, Beck, I just wondering the challenges of sort of zoom life.
When you have a guy like holder come up from the practice squad, you put him in the in the dime, essentially what it is and sort of getting a guy ready to play like that.
Well, you know, we're not zooming right now.
Um, so but it's a challenge.
He hadn't had many reps there.
I just felt like part of the reason we brought him up was for special teams when he was up two weeks ago.
It played well for us and special teams.
Obviously, you know, our special teams hasn't been up to our standard of late, so that was part of the reason to bring him up and to get him up.
You know, he had the take over the dying position.
Um, you know, we'll see if we continue that way this week again.
But I thought he did find in there.
Obviously, there's a player to he would like to have over, but, you know, it was pleased with the way he played.
Thanks for my cliffs.
Why did you get it on you like you still needed? We'll come back to you next one here until I would go ahead the coach to for you first.
Speaking generally, Justine Simons is instincts.
How impressive are those in terms of him knowing when Thio kind of slide over and challenger past Justin's instincts are excellent, You know, that was one of the first things I noticed about him when we got here back in 2019.
Um, and he's just progressed beautifully along those lines.
As he has draft more of a command of the coverages was played on our overall scheme.
So that's something that I think will continue to improve.
Although he's playing at a high level right now, I still think will continue to improve in that area and it will result in more big place for him.
And then you guys had a bunch of offensive players with, you know, big games.
I think five receivers with catches of at least 15 yards.
Obviously, Melvin and Philip also have big runs.
What do you like about what Pat Shurmur did? Thio kind of change things around a little bit and get some guys going? Yeah, we showed some versatility in the offense, both by the number of different guys that you alluded to that cots and balls and obviously carried it.
And I think again, it's just a direct result of being able to run the ball better.
You know, any time you can run it a little bit better, it opens up things for a lot of guys and if you throw it a little bit better it will open up the running game and I think we had that going yesterday.
I do think we could still throw it better on the early downs than we did, but we had more balance and balanced.
It's easy toe have balanced.
But can you be successful with it? Yesterday we were like, we're going to try again.
You got me, Mike.
100% that you don't never turn on your switch.
Hey, uh, watching Rosner and you know Bowles pull out there yesterday brought me back to my childhood watching football with Jerry Kramer and Fuzzy Thurston and Forrest Gregg leading for Paul Harding and Jim Taylor.
I was wondering, why do those principles? I was supposed to be antiquated.
Why did the principles of that type of blocking scheme still work today? And where did you get the idea to do so much pulling? Well, part of the reason is, and you hit on it, you know, you went all the way back Thio the sixties there, you know the Miami Place, um, fronts that were was popular in the sixties way play those fronts to hear a little bit.
We mix them in disguising a little bit more so because of the way they played their defense.
Those runs, we're appealing to us and we put him in and the guys did a great job of executing, so it's time for a few more.
Next, I mean information.
Vika was wondering what you thought of Lloyd Cushion Berries season to date what you want to see from him in the next six games.
And also how do you think he's doing in terms of getting everything right? Pre snap, getting the protections right and all that.
E think Lloyd's done a good job all year of improving a little bit each and every week, and that's not surprising because that's the type of guy he is.
He's very conscientious, has a lot of pride, wants to uphold his end of the bargain as it relates to fitting in with the offensive line executing his blocks.
Doing his job is the center, which does involve by dein fronts and where the line how the line is gonna work.
So he's made small strides each and every week, and that's what we're hoping for.
That it does these last six weeks is continues to make small strides each and every week to Georgia Tech.
The KJ's 15 yard catch on 3rd and 10 on that first scoring drive for you guys kind of got got the ball rolling.
Um, you know, what did you like from him on that play? And then on a larger scale, how he's been kind of really finding his role within this offense the last three weeks or so.
Yeah, Obviously that was a big play is kind of similar to the play the day Sean made against the charges a few weeks ago.
That God is going on a third date conversion.
I think, you know, handlers doing a great job improving every each and every week.
I think he's a very hard guy to stay with.
He's tough to cover.
I think that was illustrated a couple times, so yeah.
I mean, you don't need to break it down because we don't say it's gonna win, but I will be honest.
I gotta break it down.
But I gotta break it down, because this way, but it is something to break down because Dolphins defense is really good this year.
But I don't know what happened in this game.
They were just crap.
So, yeah, I'm gonna be breaking it down for you, so I mean, I know if you don't want to come in and that's fine.
I Dio, Let's let's not make fun of the Dolphins.
Yeah, so you can.
They were gonna want their sixth straight game.
They were in this game.
They just Absolutely.
But I'll be honest.
The Broncos didn't do that good.
No, they didn't do good.
Just the Dolphins did war.
So because broncos didn't even move the ball, It's really just really nothing going.
And, you know, the running back.
So, yeah, Melvin going? I'm looking at him.
Yeah, there's Melvin going and he's gonna get run right there.
So nice or run going in around the walls. Dolphins.
Justin capitalized on the Broncos turnovers because Broncos turned it over.
Oh, yeah, pathway.
So that was a nice plate coming in.
So if you like I said, look, um, we have toe right.
You don't have Drew Brees.
Yeah, I've tasted hell, but you should still be able to win because Mom goes like, I'll be honest, you still be able to win because, like I said, we have Ah, like a He said the running game is going to get better and stuff like that.
Now we can say it's gonna be an easy when because that's what us Dolphins Fan said.
We as Dolphins fans said, Easy win and guess what we lost.
So now the Saints fans are gonna have to learn from the Dolphin fans, and they have to understand it's not gonna be that easy.
Look, Yeah, the favorites.
You should win. You should win.
But we can't say it's easy anymore, because Broncos, I don't know what happened, but, well, it's not that the Broncos play terrific.
Yeah, Yeah, right into the insulin.
All run. That was a good pastor.
Yeah, I know, I know.
It's just salt and put salt on the wound, but that's all right.
I'm just going through the film's Yeah, but that is to a debt.
He didn't even thrown interceptions.
Yeah, this is on the play that he looks like.
Yep, it went down on that place.
Offensive line was terrible.
It could be that the defense of line for the Broncos is really good, but that's you're gonna have to watch out for because Taysom Hill they get sacked because two or got sacked tons.
You had of Washington.
So he is a rookie at a Washington carry eso I did come out.
I did come in at a perfect time because you are showing dolphins in bronchus a dolphin e that kind of it.
So sadly, I did about games.
I'm just going I'm just going just pausing it and stuff like that.
Giving you what? What's going on and stuff like that.
So, once again, this is on third and five.
So 33rd down conversions.
Demba was two of before on those plays.
Uh, governor was Temple, so let's see what happens.
It's gonna be the see if it's caught so that we caught called towards the sticks.
Yeah, but we'll see a lot of Moore's out next game because that's gonna be a big factor.
Yeah, most likely going to be the big factors.
What happened in last week, maybe.
Yeah, it was like I said, they had an interception in that game.
Uh, Lattimore, That was Williams.
He got injured that he wasn't playing off game.
I don't know. I don't know.
It's probably gonna be questions.
Look at the report starting Thursday.
So that's what we're gonna have to do.
Hey, some hell touch them? Yeah, that's I mean I mean, like I said, this I know it's a salt on wounds.
Okay, this is on 3rd and 10.
Once again, Broncos went one for four.
That was in the game.
So let's see what happens on this play.
It looks like he is goingto from the past.
Looks like everybody is blocking here and looks like they have some pretty good disruptions.
So that's one thing in common, right? That you cannot have these disruptions.
Uh, got to make sure it is essential.
I want to hear a song about those things.
You ready for this? Yeah.
Wait. Pause the video for a second. Alright.
Deposit this'll guy was so happy because he sang a song because Taysom Hill got him the money line because he was betting on the game.
Yeah, and what happened was he got the money line.
So he was hotly saying so.
Thio said, um, can't leave him wide open.
Just we really terrible You did.
And on those games right there, that's one thing I did was wide open.
Well, defense played.
Oh, that's the past plate coming in once again.
That'll pass plate number 80? Yeah, probably.
Probably the same.
I don't know why they showed it twice.
I don't know what's happening.
It's kind of the replay.
Once again, this was in the I formation.
One back in the backfield.
Uh, he's gonna have to pass, and he's gonna hit that pass.
I'll see you later, but yeah, let's see if he gets out quicker.
All right, field goal. Coming in.
That was a field goal.
That was at the 9.
50 something, mark.
So, once again, thanks.
I think for coming in.
We are doing some breakdowns.
Saints and golf.
Um, we're doing, um, Dolphins and Broncos.
I'm gonna give you an in depth look on.
Um, what we're gonna be facing this Sunday against the Dolphins, the not the Dolphins, the freaking, um, Denver Broncos.
Once again, Denver and Saints.
This Sunday, 305 Once again, that is a run play coming in.
We will give you that box score from the last.
We'll give you that box score.
I'm gonna go ahead and put it up on the screen.
So past place coming in, That was um, interception.
Once again, Denver was running three on that on that play to look, just, um looks like he's gonna throw a nice or pass play right there to the sideline.
So once again, they'll run.
Therefore, and Tula will try.
Toe just, um Yep. Go down.
So there was once again, that's something you got aboard right there.
It's those, um, um downs and distance where they're gonna sack you.
So that's just something.
Like I said, Denver.
Like I said, Sure, Denver, we're gonna give you that box score on that game.
So we're gonna give you so we're gonna wrap this up and we'll give you the box score in this game.
So let me go ahead and get this out the screen.
I'll give you the box score.
I'm gonna give it a box score on Denver.
I'm gonna give you the box score in Denver and Miami box score Denver or just Miami box score.
We're going to give you that box score okay? And let you know what happened in that game.
So it's going to give you the box score in that game.
I'm gonna go to the database, will go to the football.
It's called the football database.
Let's go to the box score.
I'm gonna go over to the box score.
Once again, the box score on the screen, 22 13.
Which your final score.
The first couple of plays.
Um, Denver scored on a one yard run that was at the 13.
And then Denver, um, kick the field goal.
Um, it was a 29 yard and also a 47 yarder that was at 505 and 15 minute mark.
So that was in the second quarter.
Also, Melvin Gordon had a 20 yard touchdown.
That was the only, um, um um, Denver score 20 to 10.
So in the game, uh, Denver had 19 1st sounds.
Eight on runs, nine on past.
So they got nine on those past place.
Um, but they only had two penalties.
They had 459 yards total compared to the 2.
They ran the ball 33 times, so that was kind of what they did against the Miami Dolphins.
Um, there were 18 for 31 interception So they were 18 for 31 interception.
On third downs in the game, there were seven for 16 for about 43% and 33% from Miami.
Now, Miami used only 61 place Denver used 63.
But the time of possession Waas? Um, absolutely.
30 minutes and 19 seconds.
Drew Lock last Sunday.
Had 18 for 30 passing.
He did not have a touchdown.
Um, Melvin Gordon had 15 carries in the game.
Felt Lindsay had 16 carries for 82.
That was a five point, um, one average of both of them with averaging, um, five yards and carry eso that they had some.
They had to run a game last.
So that was 189 yard that was over.
That was close to 190 yards in a game.
Um, when it comes down to it.
So I look at it this way.
If you could slow down the Mayan, the Denver running game, you have Lindsay, you have Melvin Garden.
You can, um, do something extraordinary.
But if you're let them continue toe pound the ball.
You're not getting off the field on third down.
That's just how I look at it.
So you got to be mawr.
Um, conscientious when it comes down.
Third down defense.
So you have to control them on third down.
You have to control that temple of the game that z how we see it.
Why? So let's give you those rankings.
I'm gonna give you those.
See if we can give you those rankings on Miami and the Saints.
I'm gonna give you those coming into the game, so we'll give you those in just a second.
So let me get those stats up on the screen.
I'm going to the It's called Stats Stream.
I'm gonna give you the rankings, give you those stats screen stats on the screen.
So let me get those switched over my stats switch over to my stats.
I'm gonna give you the young Yeah, that's a Wes number Broncos.
So I'll be giving you those numbers giving the rank.
Once again, the rankings air on the screen rankings.
Um, once again, that ranked 22nd and total offense with 3 46 They also ranked 15th in the running game, but they're also ranked 21st.
They're not a good passing team, their 21st coming in.
They're also lacking and scoring the 27th.
So they're lacking and scoring.
So they're also defensively.
They give up a lot of points.
That's six point difference right there.
But also there were ranked ninth in passing.
So they're kind of in the top 10 when it comes down to pass defense.
But they're also ranked 19th and running, giving up runs.
So that's what their team rankings is.
And also the ranked 13th coming down the line.
So once again, I'd be honest with you.
I think this game right here, I'm gonna give you some numbers on them.
Let me give you some breakdown numbers.
I'm gonna give you some point.
Spread numbers on them. Okay.
Once again, Denver, Let's go through the when they're playing on grass field.
Denver is two and four straight up, and also four and two against the spread.
Now, they're also we 10 through 13.
They're five and three straight up and 62 against the spread.
Now the New Orleans Saints.
Um in game versus um, Denver.
They're gonna be favorite.
That ranked 55 and one straight up in two and four against the Spread.
Also in road games there.
5, 17 and three straight up and 15 and five against the spread.
Now in home games Now in home games, this is the line.
Home games road game.
There's 17 and three straight up 15 and five now in points over 42 to 49 points there.
Straight up there. 13 and two.
And the Saints are also 11.
When playing on six days.
Arrest the Saints of five and one straight up and four and two against the spread.
Now, uh, in the last three seasons, the Saints or 25 6 straight up and 21 10, um, against this sure run, um, offered division game that Z Atlanta Falcons 11 and four.
Um, straight up at five and 10 against now, um, playing on grass fields.
This is going to be a pretty good altitude going up to our Dumbo, um, 10 and one straight up in 83 against the spread.
Now, in the month of November, the Saints are 11 and two straight up and nine and four against.
Now, um, once again, coming off way gave you that information e against the visual components or say, no division rival.
This is offered division rival 84 straight out and for and eight against the spread.
Now the what? After two or more consecutive wins, the Saints or 20 and five, the straight up.
And also they are against their 17 and eight.
Now, Um, when teams, Uh when this team is playing against teams with losing rockets, they're 14 and to coming into the arm gang straight up.
But they're also 12 and four against the spread.
Now when they play against a team with a losing rocket that's in the second half of the season, the ST nine and three and nine or three against and 10 and two straight up.
Now that's going, um, a week, Um, 10 through 13.
That's saying to eight and two and the against rocket is seven and three.
That's your combinations when it comes down to it, um, for the Saints and the Denver Broncos.
So, like I said, at this point, spread is going to be four and a half.
I think the game it's going to be Maybe you could say in the neighborhood.
Pull this up to my screen.
Okay? I'm gonna say it's gonna be in the neighborhood.
Or maybe I say 10 to 12 points.
I say maybe 10 to 12.
Or maybe 10 toe.
When? So I probably think it's gonna be maybe higher in the game if the same stone screw up the same stone.
Um, um, give up the third downs on defense.
So that z what? It depends on them don't giving up any third downs and first downs and stuff like that.
And also fourth down.
You don't have to worry about it.
Denver is one and 211 for two.
They're not gonna just go forward on fourth them if they have to.
They don't have to, but we have to have a plan.
So, um, to ensure that it doesn't happen.
So on that note.
