00:00:00
come back to the of sports headlines.
00:00:03
I'm coming to you right now.
00:00:05
Live Warner Sinker.
00:00:07
No, Sean Davis this week.
00:00:08
Actually, we're gonna miss Sean Davis Friday unless something changes.
00:00:12
But I got a real nice episode playing for you guys today, so let's get right into it.
00:00:17
We're gonna cover some MLB news, um, Cem trades and free agency for the Major league Baseball and also some NBA, um, news as well as a few a few stories in the NFL.
00:00:30
But we're saving our NFL episode again for tomorrow. That is Wednesday.
00:00:34
Um, I will be live with you all then.
00:00:39
So let's let's just start right off on it.
00:00:43
Um, Charlie Morton.
00:00:45
Wow, That is a blurry picture.
00:00:46
Charlie Morton has been assigned to the Atlanta Braves on a one year, $15 million contract to raise.
00:00:54
Declined his player option.
00:00:56
Her team option that was worth $15 million.
00:00:59
And now the, uh, they were unwilling, basically to pay him a multiyear deal at the price he was asking.
00:01:06
So the braves got him for one year.
00:01:10
He is 37 years old.
00:01:14
A last year for the Rays and and honestly, was probably the race.
00:01:17
Um, Glass, now in Snell orbit, Inconsistent.
00:01:19
Snell was on the pitch count for really the entire season.
00:01:24
Um, this is gonna help Atlanta's pitching rotation tremendously.
00:01:27
They now have, uh, to go along with Morton.
00:01:32
Max Freed and coming off of his Tauron Achilles, actually.
00:01:39
Coming off his torn Achilles Mike Soroka, the two young starters there.
00:01:42
And then they also have a juice.
00:01:44
Miley, who is a free agent signing and then probably Ian Anderson as that 45 guy, um, for the Braves.
00:01:52
So they're looking to run it back on and just start right where they left off.
00:01:57
And, you know, I'm excited to see it.
00:01:59
I hope the Reds do not match up with them in the first round again, but the Braves were looking to be a really, really good team, at least next year, if not for the years to come.
00:02:09
They were kind of lacking that Shut down.
00:02:13
It's locked down your lineup starter, um, in these playoffs b.
00:02:17
I mean, really, because Mike's Rocca was hurt with his torn Achilles.
00:02:24
Um also some trade news.
00:02:26
No, one in Renato eyes going to potentially betrayed.
00:02:29
Now we've been talking about Nolan Aeronaut of trade for probably the last three or four season.
00:02:34
Um, but it's looking like it's going to keep its gaining more momentum.
00:02:39
Of course, the Rockies just signed him to a big, big contract.
00:02:42
Um, the Dodgers, of course, our potential suitor.
00:02:46
So, yeah, the Dodgers might just keep getting better and add a top three third baseman, if not the best third baseman in the entire league, uh, to their roster.
00:02:56
The Dodgers, of course, pulled off a trade like that for Mookie Betts and then signed him to a massive contract.
00:03:02
Um, last year, and it honestly gave them a World Series win.
00:03:06
Eso We'll see what they do with no one there.
00:03:09
Not Oh, The Rockies have been really stubborn on trading him so far, but they have done absolutely nothing and honestly wasted away some of his prime years of baseball.
00:03:17
40 homers, 125 R B I s and hidden over to 80 But that is picking up steam.
00:03:25
And naturally the Dodgers are a potential suitor.
00:03:28
And then Blake Snell is well, Blake Snell is, um having some some trade talks.
00:03:33
The Rays have put him on the block, eso to say, and he's looking to maybe end up moving.
00:03:42
Um, so that would be huge for the Rays, Honestly, losing him because they've already lost Charlie morning.
00:03:48
Then they would only have Tyler glasses.
00:03:49
Now, um, Tampa Bay is not necessarily shopping him, but they have said they're open trading him and you know, they haven't been open trading him really had all in his career.
00:04:00
Especially not after that Sion Ward.
00:04:01
He just one, which was just an all time great year, especially in terms of E.
00:04:10
But hey has three years and $39 million left on his five year contract with a total of $50 million.
00:04:16
So the is obviously back loaded.
00:04:19
It's gonna keep the salary, is gonna keep rising.
00:04:23
5 million in 2021 12.
00:04:24
5 in 2022 16 and 2023 which is the last year of his deal.
00:04:31
If the Rays want to compete again this year for another World Series, they're gonna have to get a little bit better on offense.
00:04:36
and they're gonna have to keep pitching rotation together.
00:04:38
And that's not gonna happen because Morton's already gone.
00:04:40
But I really I mean, really, they cannot afford to lose Snell, or they're gonna go back into another sort of rebuild reload with with questionable pitching but a better line up.
00:04:50
We'll see when they get forced now, but it's not.
00:04:55
It's not looking, um, likely that they'll trade him, but they are open to trading former Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.
00:05:04
I'm gonna transition to some NFL news.
00:05:07
Ryan Shay's here.
00:05:09
Um, of course, had that gruesome neck and back spinal cord injury a few years back.
00:05:16
Um could not walk.
00:05:17
He was airlifted to a hospital or he was taken to a hospital.
00:05:21
I think he was airlifted, um, two sets hospital and could not walk for quite a few years.
00:05:28
Um, but he is regaining his his ability to walk in his leg strength back through a lot of physical therapy and and gradual weight lifting.
00:05:38
He had expressed that he wanted to play again, but there's only so much you can do.
00:05:44
But he has started a nonprofit company for spinal injury patients, so that is that is, um, you know that that's what you gotta do.
00:05:55
That's that's a positive role model.
00:05:57
That's a guy that realized, you know, I have fun playing football.
00:06:00
I made a good bit of money playing football.
00:06:02
I played all my whole life on Ben.
00:06:05
I had this injury.
00:06:06
Now it's time to walk away from the game.
00:06:07
But I can keep giving back Thio the community and the people who love the game.
00:06:12
Um, people who commonly get spine injuries.
00:06:17
He's giving back to the game.
00:06:18
Um, think about wrestlers now.
00:06:22
That's not really even back to the game.
00:06:24
But military veterans that's given back to the game and spinal injury is such an unfortunate injury that it couldn't happen to the everyday person.
00:06:32
I mean, if if I was taking a shower this morning, um, not only for Ryan stage here, but also for the world.
00:07:05
I think this is learning from their own experiences, um, successes or failures and trying to make the world a better place as a result.
00:07:17
By all means, they definitely, um, more injury.
00:07:23
And it was Joe Bro, the number one overall pick in the draft got injured.
00:07:26
Not because he got smacked by Chase Young at the goal line.
00:07:29
That was a huge hit.
00:07:31
Oh, my goodness.
00:07:33
Stretch the ball over.
00:07:34
Get a touchdown! Young went from right end spot, right pass rushed on borough Going away from Chase Young Jason came back around and absolutely destroyed Joe Burrow on the goal line College at this, uh, frank, embarrassing miscommunication.
00:07:55
I'm not really knowing what the call was covered and in the end zone, taken out of the end zone film again back into the end zone, then recovered by Washington again for a city.
00:08:10
And they said it was fumbled by borough at the goal line ball into his own.
00:08:16
Washington didn't have possession, and then when I think I felt it again, we weren't really a fumble because he never had possession when he fumbled it back into the end zone.
00:08:30
Then Washington fell on it again.
00:08:32
It was just such back.
00:08:34
That was the whole mass of a call.
00:08:36
But then late in that game, Joe burrow, um, in the pocket.
00:08:41
He's got Montes sweat and Chase Young coming around the edges.
00:08:45
Those two freaks of nature, um, athletics, beat is, you know, strong, fast, quick.
00:08:51
Just to potentially amazing pass rushers for this deal.
00:08:56
Um, um steps up in between goes to throw past, and his offensive guard honestly throws the defensive tackle back into Burrows leg, and it just buckled It buckled in on itself.
00:09:07
Torn a C L tourney M c l plus structural, knee damage.
00:09:11
Um, shown by the Emory.
00:09:16
That is terrible for him.
00:09:18
That's gonna take more than just a year to come back from.
00:09:20
He is not going to play.
00:09:22
I don't think next season he's gonna miss the rest of this season, obviously.
00:09:26
And I don't think he's gonna play next year.
00:09:29
Um, unless it's in, like some sort of, ah, you know, limited.
00:09:33
Like, you know, when you have ah, running back or or defensive lineman or corner get hurt, they just play limited snaps.
00:09:40
Now, that's not really the same value as a quarterback.
00:09:42
Obviously, as the quarterback is in there, every single offensive snap, unless you're going some wildcat and usually they're still in wind up receiver somewhere.
00:09:49
Um, Drew Brees, I guess, is an exception with that, but that they have tasting hill Taysom Hill, The utility man there for him.
00:09:57
But you mean you've got the A, C l and M C.
00:10:03
L. That's going to, of course, need surgery.
00:10:05
It's going to hell.
00:10:07
Um, and it's gonna take a while to heal.
00:10:09
It's probably gonna take a year, year in the third year, in a quarter somewhere in that terms, all the way up to probably maybe even a year and a half.
00:10:18
Um, I would not rule that out within the structural damage.
00:10:21
On top of that bones and cartilage, that's just that's awful.
00:10:27
And that's gonna just delay the recovery time.
00:10:29
And and so he's gonna have to start physical therapy later.
00:10:33
And then he's gonna have Thio take physical therapy slower because of all the damage.
00:10:37
And I don't think he's coming back next season.
00:10:39
We're looking at another potential top five pick this season and next season, no matter what happens, unless for some miracle, they end up with Trevor Lawrence in their lap and then draft him.
00:10:51
In that case, I mean, that's honestly, Joe burrow his his career.
00:10:59
I don't think will be over, but it's definitely gonna be his end of time.
00:11:03
Cincinnati And if the Bengals end up having that a pick, whether it's the first, the second or the third if Trevor Lord somehow falls down to the second or third pick.
00:11:15
If the Bangles end up with that pick, they had better trade it because they're gonna lose every single one of their fans.
00:11:22
If Joe Burrow is not, if they draft Trevor Lawrence to replace Joe Burrow, the guy that that organization is just so mismanaged the coaching staff is bad.
00:11:32
Zach Taylor is is a bust of a coach.
00:11:35
Um, that mhm don't even get me started on on the brown family.
00:11:42
Um, who just doesn't want to spend any money whatsoever in free agency.
00:11:46
At least give him a starting count like a replacement level offensive line.
00:11:50
I mean, you've got something in Jonah Williams.
00:11:56
I mean that that really is it.
00:11:58
They don't have any other like, talented, potentially, really, really good to great level offensive lineman.
00:12:08
Now, you can have guys developed into that, but I mean immediate impact.
00:12:13
Right now I'm going to allow 5 to 10 less sacks, and I'm gonna get a better pushing the running game.
00:12:20
I'm gonna protect Borough better.
00:12:22
I'm gonna give him more time than my then the guy I'm replacing right now, and they just they can't do that.
00:12:28
And, you know, it's it's it's just it's awful.
00:12:33
Um, 2020 is over for him, and most likely 2021.
00:12:37
Um, that's my guest.
00:12:38
I don't think he's gonna play.
00:12:41
Um, I don't think he's gonna play next next year.
00:12:45
And if he does, it's gonna be in a really, really limited role.
00:12:48
Uh, probably sharing snaps with Ryan Finley or whoever The other back up starter quarterback is gonna be for the Bengals next year, but that is awful for Borough.
00:12:59
So let's get onto some NBA, um, news.
00:13:04
We have big, big news in the MBA first, um, not so big, but the rockets have settled on a one year deal with DeMarcus cousins.
00:13:16
Um, they gave him the veteran minimum.
00:13:19
Um, of course, he uh huh.
00:13:25
I believe it was what? Achilles injury by cousins, which again shows why it's gonna be so hard for Kevin Durant to come back because this man was a monster of all MBA.
00:13:34
Probably the best center in the league, if not top three and the Achilles.
00:13:38
And I know I know that.
00:13:40
I know that Kevin Durant him have very, very different skill sets.
00:13:42
He was a dominant guy.
00:13:43
Kevin rants more of a finesse player.
00:13:45
Um, not quite as big and muscular, which is probably gonna hurt him a little bit, but a way better shooter shoot from anywhere.
00:13:52
That's not DeMarcus cousins and never has been and probably never will.
00:13:55
Um, But he had that injury he signed with Golden State and then got hurt again.
00:14:00
I honestly, I forget what that injury was, but I know him this time, I think, was a hamstring or something.
00:14:05
Um and then he signed with Lakers trying to win another championship ring chasing, if you will and tears his a c l.
00:14:12
So now he's on the Rockets, Uh, for one year on the veteran minimum contract.
00:14:17
Um, he's 30 years old right now.
00:14:20
He's a four time All Star, um, and averages about 21 points and 11 rebounds per game.
00:14:29
Of course, Prime DeMarcus cousins was probably up in the 24 25 26 12 13 rebounds.
00:14:36
Um, he paired up with Anthony Davis in New Orleans for a season.
00:14:41
Then, of course, his his Achilles injury happened, Um, that it was a Tory quad.
00:14:49
That's that was that was he Tours quad with Colin State.
00:14:52
So torn Achilles torn quad now torn a C l Honestly, I think DeMarcus cousins has done.
00:14:57
He needs to find himself another line of work.
00:15:00
Um, I would not be surprised if he tears another leg muscle this year whatsoever.
00:15:07
Um, but he has signed now with the Rockets for one year league minimum contract.
00:15:13
I don't really think it's gonna have that big of an effect on the Rockets Rockets keeping hard or Westbrook, um, or the Rockets, if they do keep them elevating their play so much so that they can not get taken to sudden gains by a Thunder team who nobody had any expectations for.
00:15:33
Let's just say that, um, but DeMarcus Cousins is now on the Houston Rockets.
00:15:39
Um, Also mantra is Harold Thief, former Clipper, big man, if you would say offensive presence from the middle, a little bit smaller, believe 69 ises mantra is Harold, but he is, um, now a Los Angeles Lakers the Lakers steal him? Um, from the Clippers.
00:16:02
Patrick Beverly and Lou Williams were.
00:16:05
I wouldn't say devastated, but I would say they were disappointed in Mr Harold for going to to the Lakers.
00:16:14
Of course, Anthony Davis and Montrezl Harrell will have probably really, really good time in the paint to offensive presence is heralds not the greatest defender.
00:16:24
Not really good.
00:16:26
But Anthony Davis should pick up some of that slack.
00:16:29
Um, And pardon me.
00:16:34
Um, and here is really gonna bring that offensive presence that they may have been missing when Anthony Davis left and went off the floor for some rest.
00:16:43
Um, Davis is not gonna be able to go 60 minutes game.
00:16:45
Nobody in the NBA is gonna be able to go 60 minutes a game, and this should help.
00:16:50
Kind of pick up some slack for for the Lakers in terms of points scoring when they are when Anthony Davis is not on the floor.
00:16:59
Um, so I expect this to be good for the Lakers, but the biggest part for the Lakers is that he waas, he's no longer on the Clippers.
00:17:11
Honestly, um, clippers really had nobody who really, really fit and played that versatile role that only had one sided players last year, and he was still a one sided player.
00:17:20
But I think the one side of this is gonna work better for the Lakers, just because simply Anthony Davis and his presence defensively and then his lack of presence when he's on the bench offensively, um, is really going to help the Lakers now, of course, heralds gonna be having to play defense.
00:17:38
Still, even when Anthony Davis is on the floor, not to even mention off the floor.
00:17:42
But I think that's gonna help with the Lakers long term.
00:17:47
Also, Marc Gasol, um, is going to the Lakers as well.
00:17:51
So they have really a rotation of three big men that they can e mean Davis and Marcus all can shoot pretty well, especially for centers.
00:17:59
Um, there Mark Castles, that big body guy veteran drafted in the second round of 2007.
00:18:08
But, um, you have Anthony Davis being in all defensive first team player pretty much year in and year out unless he misses time.
00:18:16
Harold being that really, really versatile guy off the bench, you can score points, um, from that five spot and then Marc Gasol being that all around Guy who doesn't do anything particularly great.
00:18:26
But he does everything else really, really, really well.
00:18:29
Um, and it's gonna be a valuable part for that Lakers team.
00:18:34
Of course, Dwight Howard went to the six or so they would be missing him.
00:18:39
Other center news.
00:18:41
The big man himself, Steven Adams.
00:18:43
And I said he is the next one to go.
00:18:44
He is now on the New Orleans Pelicans.
00:18:47
Um, they traded for him.
00:18:49
Ah, biggest, uh, the biggest cap and trade are tap release trade in NBA history.
00:18:58
So the pelican sign into a two year, $35 million extension and the thunder end up getting away with basically dumping about $50 million in cap space.
00:19:09
So, um, I think that's really gonna help Zion Williamson in particular.
00:19:14
Um, there's gonna be less attention towards him.
00:19:16
He's not gonna have to do quite as much.
00:19:18
And it's gonna help Republicans as a whole with that, you know, rebounding, presence, defense, um, is pretty good offense.
00:19:26
Pretty good? Um, he's definitely a starter.
00:19:29
He's a solid start.
00:19:30
He's not quite an All Star, not quite a star, but he is definitely a solid starter.
00:19:34
You need to play a good role for that team with Lonzo Ball on Brandon Ingram and, of course, Zion Williamson.
00:19:41
Well, um, they did lose Drew holiday to the Bucks, but that's really that's That's just how it goes through holidays, going to a team that's contending now, Um, depending on what Yannis decides to do instead of a team that could possibly contend later.
00:19:59
Uh, there is no guarantees for this team, despite the breakout season that Brandon Ingram had on Ben Zion Williamson, obviously, and all the hype that he's had, um, coming into the draft.
00:20:11
And over the years, um, if you have anything that you would suggest Sean or myself, go over or go through, then make sure you put in the comments tweeted us at Sports headline eight.

Thank you all for watching have a
