Well, it's August.
I mean, it's still August.
Somehow we haven't gotten all that much closer to the embassies, and it feels like it's taking forever.
But I don't care.
I want to talk Lakers basketball with you.
I'm gonna talk all about everything going on in the world of Los Angeles Lakers because there is a ton, even though we're still weeks away from even training camp.
Starting joining me today by popular request.
Denise Jones from Lakers Asian Denise, How are you doing? Dude, I'm doing good, especially after you said that it's by popular request that you can always that popular.
Oh, I haven't gotten into the mail bag.
Just just Just wait. Just wait.
I've got a few surprises for you now is amazing.
I'm excited to jump in.
I'm always excited about the podcast.
Dude, It's always a good time with you.
So how you been? Been holding a basketball free life going on on right now.
Unfortunately, Kyle Kuzma is not gonna be in feeble play for Team USA.
That was gonna be your one saving grace.
That was going to be the one thing that was gonna kind of hold me over until the Lakersseason.
And now here we are, still in in something of a of a Lakers drought.
Yeah, you know what? It's been interesting because it I feel like I I'm not in a place from missing basketball because I'm watching the classic games on a league that so it's that's kind of holding me off until season comes into play.
Any particular games, like on Kobe Day on Mamba Day, Shay on August 24th? It was I just recorded basically 24 hours straight of N b A t V.
Because all these great matchups Lakers versus Celtics have watched that one bunch of times from 2010.
Which ones are you like keying in on at this point is, maybe I'll take some notes here and, uh, and watch some of those help get me through.
Well, you know what? I'll tell you this.
I know we're not sponsored by ah n B A r N b a t v but I do like the way they're a team.
Yes, yet I do like how their content in both online and just on the channel delivers a constant.
They capitalize on holidays that aren't even holidays to people outside of basketball.
But it for the non basketball viewer it allows them to catch up on on an important game.
Teaches teaches them about an important moment in history, and it's just great.
It's just a good time.
So for Kobe Day, for example, Um, yeah, saying so I was sitting around watching, Of course, I watched the iconic 81 point game, but this year I watched it with commercials from 06 Oh, yes.
So normally just you can skip through them.
You want the entire game, and it's you know it's entirety without any, uh, commercial breaks there or even like, Yeah, you just don't see any advertising in this time.
Watching the commercials for 06 was just a different time.
I feel like I wish, you know, more channels at least allowed the culturally relevant commercials that air during that time.
Thio spontaneously pop up on on on the game whenever there's a need for commercial break.
So I guess I owe thanks.
What do you know? Yeah.
I mean, I can't even imagine what commercials would have been coming out in.
06 Like, I have to really think back in time here, Was there anything that stood out? Like so there was like, a Kanye commercial, a Kanye Pepsi commercial.
This is like my head is crime.
Uh, when you had just dropped or you Yeah, he just released late registration.
There was, like, a bunch of Obviously you get the traditional car commercial, then you see, like what? The popular car wards of that time? Um you see, like, you know, there was this mentors of California commercial.
I was like every celebrity in the book.
There was some, uh, people just doing like the, uh what's it Well, just like, you know, like a sprint commercial or something like that.
And, you know, they're now turned movie stars or, you know, they're on TV shows.
So the evolution of it from when we were in No.
Six, for example, has been great both in basketball pop culture.
Um, Yemen has been great.
Come a long way. It's crazy.
How far? Just even Just look at the technology, how far things have advanced since then, you know? So I get I get N B League passed every year, and so I'll check in on other channels are another teams and I usually like to watch around the around the country to see the different commercials from, You know, you get to see the commercial from SHAR later.
You get to see, you know what restaurants and stuff are popular in in Miami.
What ads airing there.
So that's always kind of fun, But going back in time, in addition to that, that'd be pretty cool.
That's ah, that's definitely a good way to do it.
I'm gonna have to have to give that a shot.
So, Denise, I don't speak again.
I thought we were kicking things off today, diving into the mail bag.
So one of the things we've been advertising lately on the show is that if you go over to apple podcasts and you toss us a rating, preferably a five star rating, we wouldn't complain about getting that on.
And then in the review if you type out a question or comments up the yeah, I'm not asking for too much.
Well, go ahead and read them.
So I thought, Let's let's start off with that.
Let's get into the mailbag here.
And, uh, you know, we'll talk about some of the questions and some of the comments that are on here, including some about our guy.
Well, it will finish with the one about our guide DeMarcus cousins, who has gotten himself into just a little bit of trouble here lately.
So let's take a look here and let's start with, um, a lot of these air, our comments.
But we're going to start with this one at MGs Raiders said, Hey, Trevor, you're doing a great job.
What do you think? And thank you.
What do you think is a good record for us tohave like the three seed or four seed in the playoffs.
Also, can you have Miss Jones on the pod more? She seems very knowledgeable on the Lakers.
Keep up the great work.
Love the pod. Thanks, Mario.
So, Mario Mario requested that you come back and here you are.
So I thought it's important that we have you here to help answer this question.
So in order to get the three or four seed, what record the Lakers need? Well, first of all, I'm going to tell you that I know Mario.
Huh? So I slipped him a 20 to give that review.
Thank you for that Morio.
Well, now, Louise.
Louise, Uh, you know, it's interesting because I feel like a lot of chemistry, and and I One thing that I really dislike, even though it's the business that we're in, is setting an expectation that might seem slightly unrealistic.
Ah, I hate setting expectations of how many games the Lakers need to win in order to make it two, uh, like the third or fourth seed.
And I'll tell you, I'll tell you why.
Because the season hasn't started.
I haven't really seen the chemistry that these guys have on the core on paper.
they look fantastic.
Fantastic is a slight overstatement, but it's the Lakers.
Uh, yeah, man, I always But I feel like I'm always shooting myself in the foot. In fact said expectation.
Because even then I looked back and I knew that that wasn't gonna be the case.
So for this purpose being, I'd like to see how much how well they average in the first quarter of the season.
And then I Mario, I can have a better answer for you then because I feel like an early prediction now, especially with everything that's going on in the season hasn't even kicked off.
It makes things a little challenging.
So I That's kind of where I stand.
I am not crazy on these on a prediction, but if I had to, I would rely on what the first quarter looks like.
And then I could extend my prediction for that.
That what if we took Lakers out of the equation? Just what do you think it's going to take for any team to get the three or four seat and in just the Western Conference, like how many games they needed Yeah, Like Hominy Hominy games.
They need to win.
What? What would be a record that would be required to have the three or four knowing how just absolutely bonkers.
The West is this year.
I like you just gets more and more, more and more crazy.
Yeah, let me look it up here.
I'll see what it took to get the three seed of the four seed last year.
Let's see what what that came in.
And I'm guessing we're probably looking in the mid fifties, but let me double check here.
53 wins was the 3 53 wins was both the three and the four seed for last season.
It was the Portland Trail Blazers in the Houston Rockets, but fish with 53 wins.
And that's what it took to get three or four.
Is that gonna change? Honey, I think it will get a little higher because of how competitive it is.
You're gonna get a little hot.
I mean, that's that's still to get number.
That's hard to argue against, right? 50.
It's a little over half, and as competitive as we are on the West and how much more competitive we are this season at, I'd give them between 50 and 60.
Okay, that's it.
That's a pretty wide range there.
But it's a pretty safe range.
You can say somewhere between 50 and 60.
I actually think we're going to see happen in the West because you've got so many teams.
I'm looking at the at the list year.
You've got so many teams that you could tell me this team made the playoffs and I would buy it in the Western Conference like there's only two teams that if you told me there a playoff contender, I would say No way.
That's not possible that that's the Memphis Grizzlies in the Phoenix Suns.
Yeah, everybody else you could tell me they are a playoff team that the King, the Great, the Timberwolves, the New Orleans Pelicans, even you could tell me they made it.
I would buy that the Dallas Mavericks.
They could make it.
All those teams I could see them making, and none of them made it list last year.
Course the Lakers could be in that makes.
So you've got so many teams in the West that have a legit shot that you're going to have some of these teams just beating up on each other, and it's gonna be hard to get a win on any given night.
There's no easy games in the West with the same for those two.
And even those two could catch on it on any particular night.
Any given Wednesday, they could get you.
So I'm gonna say it's actually gonna be a little bit lower because I think as a result of playing all these good teams, everybody's Windows can be a little bit over and it's gonna be a little bit more even.
There's not gonna be as big of a gap, so I'm gonna say it's gonna take 51.
Yeah, I'll save everyone wins again.
So that's that's just my guess at this moment.
But who knows if that's where it's really gonna wind up In any event, can the Lakers get there? Can they get to 51 wins? I say yes, they can, but like you said, we're gonna have to see how they how they do in ah in the first quarter of the season and then how they adjust from there.
Yeah, I think that's a big one for me.
And that's something that I've learned, you know, transitioning from like a fan Thio even just like making better educated guesses, uh, or not guesses.
But just like predictions better get said, um, because it's so hard like you get so excited in the first court in the first quarter of the season.
Er, yeah, you get to excite the first quarter issue than that.
You all moles forget how much can happen and how many things can change for, you know, the other 3/4.
And so it's It's been something that I've tamed myself when it comes to just really focusing on what that first quarter looks like, how well their chemistry is, how well they're adjusting to changes.
The rotation is a big loan.
We saw that last season.
How do you know we had a cooze playing a five and it was just really we were getting pretty experimental.
Um, so I'm curious to see what's gonna happen this season, and I'm relying a lot on that first quarter to give me a good prediction of what the rest of seed is gonna look like.
I like it measured, measured approach by the best way to go when the next comment says from At Por Por Yai, which is making fun of my buddy Keith Smith, who does the front office show with me, said, because he can't pronounce the last name on one of the Celtics players party.
A poor well as we said it.
But Key Smith, a Celtics guy who lives in reports in Orlando, is the best guest on in the Lakers centric podcast.
One of those weird things.
Yeah, he's a Celtics guy, but he brings good and by balance, reporting an insight.
Traveling is a great host.
The show is very good.
Give it a listen.
Hey, Thank you, man.
Appreciate the comments, and Keith and I do the N B A front office show as well.
So make sure you guys check that one out.
You can find it on iTunes and, of course, a great review and subscribe to that one as well.
Here's another one for you here, Denise.
This one is requesting more female guests.
Please saying that they want to hear more female voices paired alongside with me because they do such a great job.
Keep up the good work so that I think this person just didn't remember your name.
But that's that.
You're who they're talking about.
I My name's Denise Jones, for the record, didn't meet Jones.
Maybe they could skip to whatever minute of the podcast that's on and and remember it next time.
But you know what, man? I feel like anyone that you pair with on the podcast does a great job.
Did it? It's good feedback.
But I'll have say you You're you're popular guest.
And I think there's a reason for that.
I think people are connecting with you.
So, uh so, yes, I'd always happy to have you on your, uh let's finish with this one.
Hey, this one was actually from a few weeks ago, so you can tell by this, but I want to use this to springboard into a little talk about DeMarcus cousins.
Hey, Troubling of the best podcast, man. Thanks.
Uh, that being said, I would like to know if Boogie returns to his pelicans form before the injury.
Do you think the Lakers signed him next year? I personally think you will be a beast this year.
This hurts to retreat because I thought the same thing.
I thought he was gonna be a beast this year.
Two Lakers win the prize. Great signing.
Thanking you in advance? Yes.
It was a great signing.
3.5 million. Then he gets hurt.
And now we've got another issue to deal with.
So this is from G s, Will, Um, I want to change this into a Denise.
Do you think at any point we'll see demarcus cousins back with the Lakers? I'm talking about even next season.
Now that he's got some legal issues going on in addition to the injury, Uh, well, it's sick and take things one step at a time.
So with just focusing on the injury, I do see in coming back, Um, just because of the expectation that was set on him.
And you know the impression that we all that the Lakers had when they brought him on board and Laker fans and how enthused a were, um I think based on the injury alone, we'll see him back, Uh, maybe later this suit in her next season.
But that being said with everything that's happening in his domestic violence misdemeanor.
You and I were talking about it offline.
What makes it complicated is disconnecting myself from a band disconnecting myself from my *** being a female, um, and and just really looking at this story for the, you know, face value.
I understand that he wanted his son at his wedding on and the mother of his child was interfering and, you know, didn't even have a reason In the audio clip that Tansy released, Just simply said no.
Now the way that he reacted and how frustrated he was being pressured, it isn't the problem.
It's just his delivery in how he came across, how threatening he waas.
Um, in the times that were in, I think, and I've told you, I think he just fell for a trap.
I think he fell for a trap.
I don't think he was being smart about it.
Um, I don't think that, uh, just it's it's I can level with him, but it's also like to You should've known better.
You should have known better.
So to circle back I don't know, I feel like it depends on how this all pans out.
You know, men, you you get to questioning like, you know, Is there other times with other women that he's been verbally abusive with, You know, is it Is this a problem that we're going to be seen more often? We've seen it with some players.
As soon as you know, they can't accuse from one that really all it takes is one.
A few other start surfacing, so it really just depends how severe this situation really is.
But I I don't think the injury is gonna prevent him from playing next season.
If anything prevents him from playing next season, it's gonna be this charge.
Yeah, I agree with that.
I think that the injury he can ultimately come back from and we can we can speculate forever about whether or not he could be the same player is he's still gonna be effective.
Where's his head gonna be added and all that kind of stuff.
But that may not matter all that much, depending on how much they charge sticks.
Now, from what we've seen, it's not.
It's a I want to say it was like a more of a misdemeanor domestic violence.
And he didn't actually you hurt someone, but still with the saying that things that he that he said in that clip sent out a death threat.
You cannot go on and you look at what's happened in other sports, the issues dealing with domestic violence, guys, we're getting our getting cut, guys, you're getting dropped from leaves and things like that, which is, I mean, as it should be, like he he shouldn't be in any kind of a mind set to say these kinds of things, and the thing that gets me is if he's if she has the the foresight to record that conversation, that tells me he's probably said that before, or something before that radiator to think, Hey, I better record something like this.
I have something on him, Yeah, you know, and that's what I'm saying, like I feel like and I didn't mean to cut you off.
I feel like you're right.
It's definitely not the first time he said it.
I you know it should be the last, because at this point it's it's everyone knows about it, and I feel I'm I'm afraid that more women or more people are gonna come forward because if this is something that he's known to be, he's known for, you know, behind the scenes for the mother is child to know, you know, to record him.
Then I wouldn't be surprised if there was a person out there with no relationship or connection to hand, but just had one night and it wasn't great that came forward with some stuff.
Yeah, that's the thing.
You got to be hoping that this was a one time thing, that it just happened to be the time that he slipped up and she happened to be recording it.
Then again, that sounds fairly unlikely.
Okay, but you have to that that would have to be.
The hope is that DeMarcus Cousins just just messed up.
One time said something.
Maybe he's seeing Red wasn't thinking.
You're talking about his child not being at his wedding like that's a That's a pretty serious thing.
It's not like she say, Well, yeah, it's not like she just just saying something mean to him or something like that, like your kid is your own child is not gonna be there like that's a that's a pretty big deal.
So maybe that pushed him over the edge and made him say some something that maybe he was, you know, just in a state of rage or whatever.
Not that it's an excuse.
But again, the question is, and you bring it up so well, is that Is this something that's happened before? Is this something that's going to happen again? And if that's the case, is that something that you want around your organization? And and that's gonna be a discussion for the Lakers as they get further in this investigation and as they find out Maura about it and learn more about the entire situation, Right? So here's hoping God bless him right now.
I mean, tough, tough spot to be in for him.
Not only is he injured, you can't play the game that he loves all that now he's got got this going on.
But again, if you can't go around saying these things, you gotta be smarter than that, especially in the times that we're in.
You got to be smarter than that.
You can't just tell a person let alone a woman, anything that's, you know, threatening to her life.
You're not that young anymore.
You cannot. It can't happen.
So we'll see where all this goes was certainly something we'll be following because obviously, you know, DeMarcus is even though he's heard he is still on the Los Angeles Lakers for now, he could wind up getting getting dropped.
Her are waived or whatever, but But we'll see where it goes from here.
I do want to move into something a little bit, Maur upbeat, something that made me smile a little bit.
And that's that's Ice Cube's comments, because I think they are.
E think he does such a good job of just summing up how Lakers fans feel about the Los Angeles Clippers right now.
But before we get into that quick shoutouts, you bet online dot e g baseball season is in full swing.

You know this read about the NFL season getting going made me realize that I intended to ask you, This is the beginning.
Do you have a particular favorite team? Denise.
Is there a football team that you're getting excited about watching because that's gonna hold me over till basketball season a little bit.
Yeah, the Rams uh, w well, much. I feel like it.
With football, it's a little different in California.
With all the teams that we have you.
Do you have your section of Raiders? Have you ever sucked in a Rams? Can Do you have your small section of charger fan? Do you have your, uh, you said small section.
Well, because they're there's true little sour.
It's true, you know, they it's not right.
It's a new city, But But what's interesting is that Charger perfect.
Though it was such a short movie, right, because it was still in the same state.
They're more hurt about how short of a move it'd as opposed to, you know, have they moved to a completely different state, had moved to a completely different say that the narrative would have been completely different.
But because and I understand because it's, you know, just a few hours away, Non Charger fans are ****ed.
Charger fans are ****ed into strange rural, So I'm watching the rounds this season.
Have a good time.
Wise France. Fair enough.
Yeah, you know, the Rams are one of my teams to watch.
For sure, I'm excited about that.
In fact, we're doing a listener fantasy football league that's gonna be drafting Saturday night.
We just put it together on our last show so that's that's gonna be a lot of fun.
We'll see how quickly the Rams players go.
I have a feeling they're going to go pretty early in that one, but it should be a ton of fun.
Um, so going from going from that, let's talk about Ice Cube because his his comments here are great.
You don't even like the charges.
He doesn't even like the chart like he makes comments about the Chargers to and it's it's hilarious and I love it.
So here's what he said to our buddy Arash Markazi.
Ice Cube is talking about Paul George Ankle I Leonard.
He says, I wish they would have come to the Lakers, but I guess they picked the team that they were more comfortable playing with.
You got to be special to play for the Lakers.
You have to be ready for all that comes with that.
Those championship banners and those jerseys are looking down at you when you play for the Lakers and it's probably easier to play if you cover those up for some people and then he goes on to take some more shots of them.
He says the Clippers are like your cousin who moved in and starts thinking it's his house because he's been here for so long.
I really think they should move the team.
We didn't ask them to come here.
I think it's unfair to so many cities in America who don't have a team like Seattle that we have two teams here in L.
They should move because it's never going to happen for them here.
They may have a blip on the radar every now and then, but it's never going to be their city.
They should just get out and they should take the Chargers with them.
Man, Ice Cube is straight to the point.
Shots fired here.
Bye bye, Ice Cube.
What do you think? About what? About everything that that he said here.
I mean, I think it's pretty amazing.
I mean, I love Ice Cube, and I know he's coming in hot, but it makes sense because the Big Three, their season's coming a wrap on Sunday.
So he needs to figure out a way to catch momentum.
And not to say that I see you even, uh, looks for a way to seize a moment.
I'm saying this not trying to get publicity, but we haven't heard too much from from Ice Cube for a minute, especially because the Big Three wasn't seasons.
And and now that this championship game shout out to Frank Nitti, Uh, who's making it? That's that's on Sunday is happening.
I feel like he has more time in his hand and you can talk about things I was interested in.
So do I agree with what he's saying? He hit some extreme levels, but I think it all makes sense.
I think it all makes us because, as you know, someone who was born and raised in L.
It's it's the love I have for the Lakers and the love that mostly city, The Clipper is very you know, it kind of that's a good ****ogy.
I don't know what he was doing when he when he thought of that and compared the Clippers to cousin that you know overstays their welcome.
But he's right there we have we're known for having two of everything and I think what a lot of people in L.
A are a little frustrated about is that you have the Clippers and you have the Chargers really trying to claim Inglewood, who you know, is such a pivotal part to the county of Los Angeles.
It's where the Lakers started playing, so it can get a little insulting when you have this team who too many hasn't paid their dues trying to claim the city, especially now, more than ever, that when they have, you know, some key players that they haven't had in the past before.
So again, extreme levels too extreme for me.
But I understand it and it makes sense.
You know, this is his comments are not unique.
I've heard Lakers fans say similar things.
A lot of Lakers say similar things.
I've been seeing the messenger board posts and all the things like that, saying the Clippers should move to Seattle.
It's never gonna happen.
They make too much money being by just by being in Los Angeles, so that's it's not happening.
But they're That sentiment has been around for a while that the Clippers are this unwanted team and now the Chargers kind of have that as well.
And it's it's an interesting dynamic and I think Ice Cube is as much as we can say the Lakers and Clippers.
Games are going to be fun, right? It's gonna be exciting having the Lakers and the papers both be good wth E L A F c versus L.
Galaxy games have been an absolute blast, regardless of what side grown.
It's been amazing watching those and just how fired up people are getting about about the sport and all of that.
It's been It's been great.
Uh, I don't know if you're gonna hit those levels with Lakers versus Clippers, but leakers or just something that's it is just ingrained into the culture in Los Angeles that we've said it before.
But it's it's something that has become generational.
And so have the Clippers coming along and saying, OK, we're going to be You know, the implication is that they're gonna be stealing fans away, that they're gonna be carving up our own territory.
You talked about the last time we we were to get it right.
It's, um there's over, really know it's really strange, but I will say this.
If I'm comparing the Clippers and the Chargers, the Clippers wanna have a place in L. A.
They wanna have the heart of the city the same way that the Lakers who the Chargers I don't want to be in L. A.
Doesn't want the Chargers in L.
There's more radio fans, the Chargers fans, a lot more Raiders handling charge.
It's Raiders and Rams, and it's That's such a weird mix.
When you add 1/3 team in there and they're playing it, I mean, right now they're playing at Dignity, Health Sports Park and Frank, the Galaxy Stadium.
And from what I've seen, I mean, I haven't gone to a Chargers game there before.
From what I've seen, there's Maur fans of the other team.
They basically play 16 road games a year because there's more fans of whoever they're playing, then trade her fans there.
I mean, that's I don't understand why that why the Chargers came to L.
I mean not to get too far off the basketball.
It seemed like there would have been other locations that would have been better.
Or they could have seen that.
Would at least embrace the Rams Maur because the rains have a history in Los Angeles than the Chargers do.
But in any event, two teams is already a little bit of a struggle right across a lot of sports.
I think it's great for MLS, but in terms of baseball, hockey, basketball, right, it's a you end up with a big brother Little brother syndrome, right? But for the Chargers, there's Big Brother.
That's there's, like two big brother, right Raiders and and the Rams.
And I would imagine this time goes on the Rams, because they're actually in L.
Will, probably continue to grow in their fan base.
But then you've got the Chargers, and it's like neither fan base wants the Chargers there.
And so that's a That's a tough spot, forever that seem to be a tough spot, man.
I shot out to excuse for always voicing his opinion and for putting together.
I'm a fan of, uh, one of you get a chance to catch up on the Big three league this season, but it's actually pretty good.
I I walked in with not too many expectations and was actually pretty entertaining.
So yeah, I saw you Joe Johnson turn it up.
He's leading the league in points, and I believe you want to say he was like third and assists as well, and he can't get to the point where now the Clippers and a host of other teams are actually looking and bring him back, bring him back into the N B A because he's been so dominant in the big three.
So I mean, that would be a first if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not up on my Big three history, but a player going into the big three and then his play their earning him a spot back in the n B A.
I think that would be a first.
That would be it would be really impressive.
So you know what I mean.
A credit Ice Cube for trying something different.
I like the concept, like the way that he was going about it, his comments here.
I think he represents a lot of Lakers fans and how they feel about the Clippers and how they feel about everything.
And you know what? I think we're gonna be feeling that on opening night we're gonna feel that venom.
We're gonna feel that frustration.
It's gonna be a Clippers home game.
But I have a feeling there's gonna be a heck of a lot of purple and gold in that in that crowd, skin me alive gets up.
I'm excited for that game a lot.
So let's move on and let's talk a little bit about a guy that is no longer wearing purple and gold.
Ball loves a ball now.
A New Orleans pelican.
He's back to working out.
We've seen the videos online.
I was sad to see long ago.
I was hoping that there would be a way that they could.
Yeah, I hope good things for long.
So I want to see him do well in New Orleans, and I don't want to see the Pelicans beat the Lakers.
But I hope loans oh, plays great.
I hope they can beat it.
I hope he plays terribly when he plays against the Lakers, and they lose because I want to see the Lakers win.
But otherwise I would I wish success for Lonzo ball.
But he he has a new song out, and in that song he makes a little comments about the Lakers and the fact that he got traded.
Ah, and he says just straight quote.
He says, L. A. Is going to regret their decision.
What do you think about this? Denise Lonzo Kind of taking a little shot.
Obviously, it's very, very muted shot here at the Lakers and their decision to treat him, you know, a man, even as a Laker fan.
I was actually excited to hear a comment like that.
Not because I want for Alonzo to be spiteful, but because we see this polished version of Lonzo every time this calculated Virgin Alonzo in every press conference interview.
And if it's and because he's so Paul Er's his dad is the one that's like just out of control and blurting out his emotion.
Speaking for Alonso, quote unquote.
So to see Alonso air out some dirty laundry of emotions that it seemed like he was bottling up.
I think it's great and use music as an outlet.
He's not the first.
Won't be the last.
Ah, when it comes to athletes, you know, using it's one.
It's one thing to use the game as an outlet to express yourself whatever emotion you're going through.
But to use music and words, you know something that people can really pick up on when it comes to what you're feeling.
I think it's great.
I like that, that he was vocal about it because I can't imagine the guy's feeling good that they left such a great team.
Such a great city, not notice on New Orleans or the Pelicans.
But it's not L A.
And it's not the Lakers.
I can't imagine them being happy with that move.
Yeah, I mean, I saw this quote.
I was totally fine with it.
I thought, Okay, yeah, that's that's great.
I think that Lonzo has to have that mentality.
I think that he has to come out and feel a little bit.
Ah, little bit slighted.
He should feel a little bit upset about it.
He should say the Lakers were gonna regret their decision because if he's not, if he if he just says it, I'm okay with that.
You know, that's that's not the kind of the world.
Yeah, yeah, it's not bad to that.
You want It shows that he didn't care.
It showed that he wasn't invested to the team.
There's so many sets, the argument that you could be on.
But this just shows that you know what? He was really happy in l. A.
He was really happy playing for the Lakers, and that was taken away from him.
It's it's the business, It's an end of the game doesn't come as a surprise.
But, hey, he's a young guy.
This hasn't happened to him often.
He's not jaded yet, so it's great that he feels frustrated about this.
Yeah, I want to see Lonzo playing with a chip on his shoulder.
I feel like there were times when he got he caught flak for being too passive.
And so hopefully now we're going to see a fired up and determined and motivated Lonzo ball.
Not that he wasn't motivated before, but we're going to see him push even harder to hit that next level.
So I'm excited to see what it what it does for him.
I have no problem when he's making making these comments.
He should feel that way.
He should feel a little bit slighted because the team basically said, Look, you know Anthony Davis, being a star right now is more valuable to us right now.
Then the pieces that were given up, I mean, that's that's what a trade is saying and so now it's all Mom's O to prove them wrong, and that's that's totally fine.
And, uh, yeah, no issues with that.
I don't think the lungs is gonna catch any.
Then he flagged for it from Lakers fans or anything.
So, yeah, I'm all good.
You think e might? Because it was aggressive.
But you know what I think balance balanced that lyric out was his lyric to, Ah, that the BBB partner, that, uh, is no longer there. Yeah.
Alan Foster you? Yes.
Um, he had some shots fired for him, too.
And so it was almost one of the like you mentioned of Alonzo.
So I think if late your fans are the few that do get upset with that lyric, if they really dig deep into that song, it's It's good.
It's what you want to see from from artists and an athlete turned artist.
It's honest. And it's wrong.
Ah, and I'll take it.
No, no issues with that at all.
Um, okay, Next news, news.
I want to get into you Shack on Dwight Howard.
So at First Shack made a comment about, you know, basically, I feel like he doesn't even know who Dwight Howard is.
which over the years Shack and Dwight Howard, I've had this weird little thing where they're going back and forth like, you know, I'm Superman.
No, I'm the real Superman, right? And that's kind of faded over the last few years, and now it kind of popped up again, and Shack was kind of taken a shot at him, and then he came back and he kind of, um, switch that out.
So here's what what? Shack said.
Um, he said, Listen, I wish him well.
My only advice to him is that he needs to dig, dig deep, really deep.
I know he's a big man. He's worked hard.
He wants to win a championship, and then you can get it done.
My message to the great Dwight Howard is.
I know everybody's counting you out.
I know everybody's messing with you, but if you dig deep down and play with that anger and play with that ferocity and stop kidding around, use LeBron and Kyle Cruise.
But because you you've actually got a good team in Miami.
People thought I was washed up when I left.
L a but I dug deep down.
I said, You know what? I can do this.
If he does everything like he's supposed to do, focus.
No joking, no playing.
Just dig down deep or dig deep down And really, really wanted they could possibly win.
Uh, Denise, your thoughts on what shock is saying here about the white.
You know, man, I feel like Shack would actually turning and you leave.
I feel like when he was giving Dwight that advise, he was giving him a younger version of himself.
That same advice, something you maybe wish he would have done.
There may be something that he did that kept him going.
Um, I think the media has an interesting way.
I know that we're media, but we're different media.
Uh, I think certain muse outlets have ah, an interesting way of spinning this story because I I don't see it as a shot.
And I We've seen Shaq take some shots.
I don't see it as a shop.
I I actually see It is like, Okay, well, this is cool.
He could keep it pushing.
It's not anything that Dwight needs to get defensive on.
Um, it's legitimate advice.
He does have to dig deep because the contract that he has is is is a big risk, you know, And it's it really all just depends on Dwight.
It depends on how bad he wants it, how much you willing thio work for it, how consistent he and how disciplined he can be throughout the entire season.
It's really all in his hands, and the only way for him to really get through the entire season and make money, because as soon as he's cut it, we know that it's done.
And it's not something that we want to see.
It's not something that Bright wants to see.
Um, shacks, right? In order for him to finish the entire season, he asked, Really dig deep? That's all it is.
It's something that we all already know.
And I didn't see another shot.
No, I don't think this part is It was It was before when he said that Dwight who part where he was pretending that was But this isn't it was joking.
It was just shock being shocked.
But this I love it.
I love what Jack say bees.
It shows that that empathy, right? He understand like he can now he can relate to dry, the only words whites at he knows where he's been, and he's able to say, Look, I've been there before and I know what it takes and it's not easy and it's hard and people are gonna count you out and you're the only thing that's gonna keep you going.
And I just think you showed a wholly different a whole different side to Shack.
And so I'm really impressed by what he said here and he's right.
He's absolutely 100% right.
Dwight Howard is going to have to dig deep.
He's going to have to figure out a way to play through all of these issues and and show what he's made of.
And so in that way, I think that some people are gonna be kind of rooting for Dwight Howard because everybody knows what's on the line.
Everybody knows that If this doesn't work, this is probably it for him, like it just doesn't work out.
If he gets cut from the Lakers on the contract that he's on right now, he probably doesn't get picked up anywhere else.
So this is back against the wall fight of his life here, and it's hard not to root for a guy in that kind of a situation.
Look, everyone's on this side.
Everyone like you said, is rooting for him.
Um, I think he he needs to stay focused because I know that he did release some words in the form of ah, of ah, what is that? An instagram live? And he dressed the interview and he said that it's irrelevant.
You know what Shack said is a relative with what he's trying to do? Um wasn't a big fan of that response because that just goes to show that maybe he didn't really either.
He's still walking with a chip on the shoulder, and that can work to an advantage with his performance in L. A.
Or he Onley read headlines.
That's what I and ah jumped to conclusions, which doesn't prove that we're gonna be seeing the mature Dwight that that were hoping for but hit two different scenarios.
Let's just let's hope it was it was the first.
Maybe he's just too focused, even, really dig deep into what Shack said in that video interview.
Yeah, I don't think it's a relevant.
I think he was responding to shacks.
I don't think I don't think he would react this way because somebody asked him, Did you? In that instagram video? Did you see what Shack said, or something like Like that? Um so, yeah, like they've gone back and forth a few times.
It's been a bit of an issue here and there.
So he was probably assuming that they were talking about the negative comments and not the positive thing.
I mean, I wouldn't take which what Jax that is insulting in any particular way. It sounded of anything.
It sounded like he's He's behind Dwight Howard and he's hoping that he does find success dealing with it.
Yeah, so s so That's it.
It's a whole different.
Hopefully, it turns a new leaf in their relationship.
Hopefully, it becomes something where Dwight can look to what Shack did at 34 he actually was an All Star 34 in Miami.
And then he's able to, uh, sort of revitalize himself and reinvent himself.
He's got a long history with the Lakers.
Obviously, Lakers fans had no love loss for Dwight Howard After what happened after, You know that the now this is going to be fun team that we all hate to remember and then leaving town right after going to the Houston Rockets and all of that, that was it.
Dwight's been been reviled in L.
A ever since then, but this thing is a chance for him.
This is a chance to not only turn his career around, but right, that wrong to kind of fix the perception of him in Los Angeles.
And so again, back against the wall.
It's hard not to feel something for him to feel some kind of hope that he's able to do it because we all want a root for that guy.
That's that zone.
Is that got his last shot.
It's his last chance to really make something happen at second chances, either, you know, and and this is a rare opportunity, and it's one of those.
Its own impulses as juicy and Goodman is when you see someone from the Geely who has pay their dues and some get like the best moment, get like and I'll bring a Valley screws or, like get that book, get a moment like that where everyone thinks it's it's **** near impossible on.
Then you prove Prove everyone wrong.
So that's what that's what Dwight can do here.
Someone coming up from the D League and kind of being that underdog getting it done that? Yeah.
That's why people love Alex Caruso so much.
You look at the all throughout sports that there have been players like that who just who pop up like Lookit, lookit Linsanity, right? I mean, that was that was same.
Same idea of somebody that you didn't expect.
I didn't expect to find success, and that is able to rise up and succeed despite the odds.
And we always we always get expired, inspired by stories of people who overcome the odds who somehow, through their own perseverance, are able to able to win and able to find success on whatever level.
Look, I mean, the rocky movies, right? Same idea.
So the reason why we watch Rocky absolutely use it.
So hopefully Dwight can actually win this battle.
It's gonna be really interesting to see how it all plays out.
And, uh, yeah, hopefully it works out the best for the Lakers and for him.
All right, Denise, we're gonna wrap up with one final topic before we do.
Let's talk about CBD m D.
If we've learned anything from LeBron's career, it's that taking care of your body is important If you want to stay on the court when it matters most, and even if you don't play in the N B A, which is probably most of you listening to the show, giving the natural support your body needs is crucial to being at the top of your game.
That's why thousands of athletes from weekend warriors Thio ice cubes, Big Three Basketball League Trust, CBD, MD.

All right, they need So let's wrap up with this.
I want to do a little prediction.
One player, one Lakers player who you believe will exceed expectations.
And why would you like to go first on this? Or do you have somebody in mind? Ah, you know what, man? I'ma let you go first on this because I've answered every every other question verse.
So all throughout mine, Hopefully I don't steal yours.
So the guy I'm gonna go, and I feel like on this the expectations already super high for LeBron super high for Anthony Davis.
Expect for them to exceed expectations that would require something superhuman right at this bank.
Um, I'd look at a guy like Alex Caruso.
We've typed him to the mood.
I think for him to exceed expectations would again be superhero.
Although I'm not gonna count him out because you never count out Alex Cruz off.
One thing that we've learned, but I'm not gonna go with him.
I feel like expectations are super high for him.
After he shot 46% from three last season I think of anything, he's not going to quite live up to expectations, but he's still gonna be a hell of a good player, even not quite living up to those expectations.
Uh, Cosmo's got some really heavy expectations on him.
I'm gonna go with Quinn Cook.
I'm gonna go win cook as my guy that I think is gonna exceed expectations.
I felt like he was the guy we found out shortly after the Kwai decision broke right? The quite mayor says shortly after we found out he was going to the Clippers and Paul George and all that that night before I was heading out to some early to join you guys out there.
And then it was just a few hours later that were broke.
They were getting Quinn Cook, But then by the next morning, we heard they were getting to Marcus Cousins.
So it was like, Quinn cook it like a seven hour period where people were excited that it was oh, demarcus cousins, right? And everybody moved on.
And he's kind of that for gotten guy.
And I think people forget how good of a shooter he is.
For his career, he shot 42% from three.
That's ridiculously good.
And in 2017 2018 he shot 44% from three.
Now, that's only in 33 games, a small sample size.
But last year, in 74 games, he shot 41% which was his his career average.
This guy can shoot the ball and he can provide some point point guard skills for you.
He can run the point.
Yeah, the defense isn't great.
That's true, right? And that's gonna be an issue for him.
It's something that he's gonna have to really work at.
But he shoots the ball so well.
And what makes me think, perhaps more than anything else, that this guy can really exceed expectations.
Eyes I look at hold is he's 26 and 1/2 basically heading towards 27.
He's going to be right in his prime.
What is this now? Three years of N B.
A experience under his belt.
So he's gonna be hitting that point where he's gonna be jumping to that next level.
He's still young enough to where he's growing physically.
He's entering his prime years, and now he's playing on a team alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
And, look, he got a plenty of overlooks playing in Golden State.
So don't get me wrong there.
But I think this is a guy who could expect exceed expectations.
And between him and Caruso, I think that's gonna be the battle may be throwing Avery Bradley as well for that starting point guard spot, because I think he is a legit contender to take out the starting point guard role for the Lakers this season.
The good one, man.
And you know what? I like Quinn because he's he's playing with.
He's playing for something that fans know of.
And that's family.
Like he rides for his family in a big way and and he's made a very, um, he's made a point of it that where his priority stands from, you know, picking his number two, um, dedicating games in the past.
So, uh, yeah, I'm pretty excited to watch, and I think that's a good pick as faras like, exceeding expectations.
You know what? Just because we were on this conversation and then I do like Quinn.
But I'm really rooting for this guy.
I'm I'm gonna go with Dwight.
This is the seventh.
This is the seventh game.
I mean, seventh team.
I'm sorry that he is gonna be on bribe being with the Lakers.
He already has that first impression that he left L.
A with he has we talked about how this is his second time to make it right.
He's playing with a different level of energy, and most importantly, it's playing for something.
I feel like sometimes in the n b A and some of these players, like they take for granted the position that they're in and not to say that, you know, they're like, spoiled or, you know, like they don't deserve you know where they are.
Um, but it's different.
And when you come across a player who's playing for something every game, every season, you've seen it with Kobe's of the world, we've seen it with, you know, the LeBron of the world.
And not to say that Dwight is don't come close to being anything like them.
But he's playing for something more than ever this season because he knows what it is to almost lose something.
And he's in a very unique opportunity to get a second chance at a knowing that he still had, um, I think he's going to exceed expectations.
It's not even it's beyond hope.
It's knowing what Dwight's potential can be when he's focused when he's consistent, when he's working out and and, ah yeah, he knows what it is.
Very few players know what it is not to be in the n b a.
What they've been in the n b.
Very few players know how sad and terrible that feeling is when you didn't choose to retire and he knows is he's come close.
So I think he's gonna exceed expectations in a big way.
God, that that last point that you made there was was great.
I hadn't even thought of it from that angle that he's got that experience because think about last season, he only played nine games for the Washington Wizards, and he spent the rest of me. He was injured.
The rest of the season has been around the training facility and stuff, but he hasn't been with the team with the team and there's that.
It's a different world when you are not wrong, you, when you're hurt and you're just rehabbing and you're not with the team.
It's a different environment.
It's a different vibe.
You don't have that camaraderie.
You don't have that sense of of of team, right? You lose all of that family.
Yeah, You feel like you.
You feel like you don't belong.
You feel like the guys you know.
They're replacing you.
You feel like it's one thing we go to work every day.
We have our, you know, our group of co workers and no, you know something.
We don't go come to work like they'll check in on it.
I can't imagine how I would feel it if one of those co workers who is in my inner circle wasn't checking on meat, Um, if they were getting promoted and I wasn't there to celebrate with them, um, you know, it's the level of the feeling of being replaced.
It is something that's heartbreaking.
And he knows he's in a position where he knows what it's like and can really fix that.
Yeah, I mean, said, there's a It's a lonely feeling for for sure, and now and now.
Dwight has had a taste of that this last season.
He knows what it's like.
He knows he's had a little sample of what it's like to not be in the n b A.
And now he has an opportunity to prove that he still belongs.
Yeah, I hadn't thought of that of that angle from Dwight's of Dwight's story.
There's so much here.
I mean, there's so many different ways to look at.
This is just one thing.
You know, he is gonna become one of we are going to see a more self aware Dwight than we've ever seen for.
I mean, this is a This is a guy who ****ed off Steve Nash for the nice Is that you're just saying that it sounds ridiculous.
How do you do that? How do you How do you make the impossible possible? But you know what? He did that.
Then you're gonna be able to do that now with this team because the difference again from then and now is that he didn't know that this was his last chance.
When you know that this is your last chance.
We know miracles can happen.
Some go with Dwight.
All right. I like the pick.
Hopefully it does work out for Dwight you know there's There's still a decent chance that this doesn't work out, that he winds up and cut or that you know he can't make that transition to being just a role player, that things don't work or he's upsetting people like me.
That's been his history, right? That's been the passport.
He's got to know this is his final shot.
And so, uh oh, yeah, we'll see what happens with it.
Hopefully, he is able to come to terms with where he's at right now and be a positive impact on this Lakers team.
And I hope you're right, that he exceeds expectations and that there's a real battle between him and JaVale McGee for the starting center spot, because I think that would be a heck of a lot of fun seeing those two guys to go back and forth if they're at their very, very best, which Lakers really, really need them to be after losing to Marcus Cousins and not getting cool.
I like and all that.
They need these guys at their best, all right, Denise.
I think that's pretty good place to wrap things up.
