Welcome into the Saints coaches show here on the community coffee States Radio network um, Zach Street Joined by the kitchen cannon, Bobby a bear in the New Orleans Saints, returned to the Superdome yesterday and rip off a 24 to 9 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
Taysom Hill with his first start as an NFL starter in the Saints defense with their third straight dominating performance in the Superdome.
Setting this team up for what looks like a very exciting stretch, uh, to finish up the year here and I'll bring in now. Bobby Hebert.
Bobby. The obvious question.
I know you spoke about it after the game yesterday, but you know your thoughts on Taysom Hill and his performance.
His first one is a starter in the NFL.
Well, I thought Taysom Hill was outstanding.
You know, things are always gonna work in your favor.
Maybe got off to a slow start, but Holly played in the second half was outstanding I think if you trust you know everyone on the team talks about the process, whether it's on offense or defense.
Do you understand the play concept of what the coaches are asking you to do? And uh, I think you can help with be inaccurate quarterback.
I think the combination of Sean Payton, I think Coach P.
Carmichael, coach Lombardi, all with a how they put in a game plan and give you opportunities to have success.
I think it was a long way.
I could tell you what right now if that Taysom Hill going forward to 78% passer, considering how they can make plays with his feet.
I think he is the quarterback of the future.
Game in and game out I look at he was 18 to 23 233 passing yards, but he also led the team in rushing with 51 yards.
So you want that production.
You know, you always looking at with Tamara like the patrons even running back or running the football.
How you contributing eso Basically, Taysom Hill was around 300 yards, which I think is outstanding now.
The one thing you cannot do when the big plus one for the game.
We now plus five for the season, you got to protect the football, Whether it's interceptions or fumbles, we gotta take it away.
But we've gotta protect it, and I know going forward, I don't care if it's Denver.
Uh, it doesn't matter who it is.
If it's Atlanta again, it could be Philadelphia.
The Chiefs, Whoever it might be.
How about we continually continuously forced turnovers? We forced 10 turnovers on four Gates e.
I mean, that's a winning formula.
You look at a parody, Bobby in the competition.
I think that's that's what you need to do.
We've got coach Sean Payton on the line here, and so why not ask the man in charge of everything about it? We welcome in our state head coach Sean Payton and coach congratulations on a big win yesterday.
Certainly, um, anytime you win seven straight football games in the National Football League, it's quite an accomplishment and that's what your team was able to do yesterday.
I want to start.
I know so much of the messaging over this really Past week has been on the quarterback position and and the changes that were there.
But for the third straight game, your defense was absolutely dominant.
And, you know, you start getting into a stretch this long.
Uh, you know, any team can play well, outstanding for one game, maybe even for two.
But when you start getting into stretches like that, it's becoming pretty clear that you may have the best if not one of the best defense is that you've ever had here in New Orleans.
Look, I think a couple things, I think, man, the big thing as you preach all season long is the race to improve the race, to improve, to get better, all the little things.
And we're seeing that those guys on defense, Dennis and his staff along players.
And, uh, you know, I think we're playing a really good complimentary game right now.
Time of possession, field position.
You know, all the things that you hear all the time are actually are actually happening.
I thought we played really good defense up in Chicago.
We had a hard fought, went up there and then, of course, followed that up with the Tampa game.
And then you just kind of, you know, the confidence kind of comes from on the field, and I said that before.
It doesn't come from planning on having it or wanting it toe happen, and and so you know, periodically has some guys banged up.
You know, I think the concern yesterday, when you lose a corner like Marshawn and you're going against the skill positions or the skill position group that that Atlanta has is you know that they're challenging.
That's a That's a good football team that just hasn't won.
It's a handful of games they very easily could have, And, uh, it was a good one to get.
Uh, we were excited about it.
Of course, it's a division game. It's the Falcons.
But it was the next opponent, and I Zack, I would agree if we continue to handle our situational football, the red zone third down, and then if you just said Who's quarterback was under more duress, often time that that can, uh, that could determine the outcome and coach pain talking about the quarterback being under duress.
I might have said this like I know for sure four of not five times look on the year tenure.
Look at Matt Ryan, Drew Brees.
They've been here a long time.
And I said this even previous to the pregame on those and we sacked Matt Ryan.
Three or more times were eight, and Oh, but now we got eight sacks for nine and no.
So we play em in a couple of weeks, just second three or more times than we're gonna be, uh, the tenant.
Oh, I mean, you know it.
Just say, Hey, we get after Matt Ryan.
I kind of like that formula.
I'll say this, though, and it's the case with so many of these elite level quarterbacks.
Um, man, it's hard to play that position if you don't have that third Mississippi, you know, I can't feel like right at the second Mississippi.
You know, uh, that past rust becomes more and more challenging.
And when we all play pickup football and you said, Hey, it's three Mississippi or four Mississippi and your friends when you begin to leave early and start rushing yet it's hard to find started to find completions and eso that that matters a lot in our league.
You know, it's a it's a passing league.
To some degree, it's a third down leak to some degree.
Obviously you wanna have the balance.
Um, but you have to be able Thio, allow guys like, like, through or taste them or whoever is in the game a quarterback.
If they get time at this level, it becomes difficult to cover.
And, you know, coach Pain, You brought up this modern day game and stuff, And, uh, to me, this really catches my attention.
Over the past 12 quarter quarters, you've only allowed one touchdown, and people might say, Well, you're playing, You have to look at who you're playing, and I even look back at the Bears and the foreigners.
But look where Tampa being the Falcons were at and you still only allowing one touchdown.
Uh, to me, that's significant.
And all I know is the bottom line when we allowed 20 or fewer points under your tenure were now 83 wins and eight losses.
I mean, I kind of like that ratio.
Look, I like that ratio to when it's in our favor.
And I think, uh, just those numbers you're talking about really become or are a byproduct of, of the things that we're discussing leading to that, you know, and, um, I think I said this last week.
Um, you know, we want to rush the ball 30 attempt.
There's so many things that go into winning time of possession, rushing the football.
Uh, and it's harder to do when you're behind.
It's easier to do when you have a lead.
And I thought in the second half, um, you know, you go in at half time, it's, Ah, it's a really hard fought close game And then all of a sudden there in the third quarter, we began Thio put a little distance in the score, and then you get into that situation.
If you're playing defensive line with the lead, you love your job.
And if you're playing offensive line with the lead, you love your job, right? If you flip it around, you don't like your job and and you know, And so I I was proud of how these guys fought yesterday.
Uh, and you know, picked up the slack where, where we needed to.
Patrick Robinson did a great job of coming in and and starting in place of Marshawn.
Ah, handful of guys.
I mean, I go on and on relative to game balls and great performances, but it was a really good team win.
We'll continue with Saints head coach Sean Payton when we return.
You're listening to the coaches show here on the community Coffee Saints Radio Network.
Okay, once again, the sense coaches show Well, we turn in just a few moments here on SportsCastrs.
So let's go over some news headlines while we wait on ESPN will do that.
We put this, we put the chrome screen in it iss chrome screens in.
So we're going over some news headlines.
Okay, let's look at some news headlines from ESPN dot com.
Okay? Pulled us Michael over to me.
Okay, once again, tourney A c l tourney.
M c l That is more damaged.
Once again, Joe Burrow got injured yesterday.
Um, in the game.
Eso Once again, Joe Burrows career is it Looks like it's going to be over.
So unfortunately, um, look, this young man, look.
Hey, went through a lot of things and stuff like that, but the truth of the matter is luck.
I hope he does come back, um bbd recovery and come back better than ever.
So I just what I hope for, but, um, him.
So, um so, once again, you got to feel sorry for him.
That's just something right there.
He's, um ah, young rookie and stuff like that.
It's gonna happen and stuff like that.
But the truth of the matter is luck.
He will come back.
He will come back stronger than ever.
So once again, this is from ESPN.
Go to ESPN dot com.
We'll go back to the States coaches show in just a few moments after the commercial there in commercial breaks.
So commercial break as we speak.
Okay, Let's see what we can talk about here before we head back.
Houston reaches on agreement, So looks like he's gonna get a one year deal.
Um, with the Houston Rockets.
Uh, he told Marcus Spears of the undefeated.
So it looks like he is going to be going to the Rockets.
So that's once again he played with the Sacramento Kings and the pelicans.
He's averaged 21 points a game, 10.
9 rebounds and also 3.
So that is once again, hey, is going to go to the Houston Rockets so once again, This is from ESPN.
Go to ESPN dot com.
We will return to the Monday Night Coaches show, which is the Saints coaches show and on WWL.
We'll be doing that right now.

So once again, this is from ESPN.
Um, we'll go over Thio What's happening on the other one? Let's see what's happening.
Looks like Okay.
Mondale Harold has doubts that the Clippers I want him back.
Um, so the Lakers sign signing.
Ah, business decision.
So I think that's a good, um, probably a good acquisition for him.
Um, so Montel Harold will go to the l A Lakers to play with LeBron James.
I signed the two years year work $19 million so looks like he's going to be going to the L A Lakers.
So that's probably going to be the the Temple to know I'm right there for, um, um, Bonds out, Harold.
So once again, we'll go back to the States.
Coaches show on here on SportsCastr.
We'll go back. We'll have the news.
Um, Ato breaks Bob Behavior and joined by Saints head coach Sean Payton, coach For the second year in a row, you guys have started a quarterback not named Drew Brees.
You've certainly had a lot of success in that situation.
And really, both of them came into a game, certainly from the outside with questions.
Obviously, you know, Teddy hadn't played in such a long time.
Taysom Hill, never starter in the National Football League and both of them a T least through six games have really, I think, exceeded expectations.
What do you think it says about your staff and the ability that you guys have to develop talent inside of your building and just how important that is for you guys, particularly as you go into an off season That's kind of uncharted territory with the cap and all of the kind of new things that this problem has created for you.
Look, I think number one our jobs as coaches.
You know, I said this number of times were teachers, and you say you're just not teaching.
You're starting a lemon on offense and defense special time, and you're teaching your roster and you're developing your roster.
Um, man, the attrition week by week in our league, you just go through the games.
There's gonna be key players out.
You hope you hope that that injury but doesn't hit you and then obviously it's It's bigger news when it when it's the quarterback position.
Um, so, yeah, uh, you know, we've been fortunate to have, I think, really good depth there, guys that, uh, you know, work at it.
Uh, they get that opportunity toe work under drew and watch the preparation.
And then it's up to us, his coaches.
If that happens, Thio build a plan around the next player in the game.
And, you know, a year ago it was Teddy.
I remember we flew up to Seattle right from L. A.
We were staying across the water there for a whole week.
And, you know, we tried to put a plan together that we felt benefited him.
Now, man, we returned the opening punt for a touchdown.
Um, you know, way do okay, offensively.
But then in that two minute drive at the end of that first half, he hits the screen pass for a touchdown in the second half, you know, begins to get comfortable, but look their stress at that position.
And when you're coming in for the first time, whether it was tasting yesterday or Teddy last year, uh, you wanna you wanna give, give them some things early on that that helped them get comfortable.
Um, we struggled really? With that a year ago.
That first drive in Seattle.
It wasn't necessarily crowd noise as much as it was getting personnel in and out of the huddle on the field.
And there were a handful of things that I could have done a lot better, uh, in those not only opening plays, but the first quarter.
And we tried to do that yesterday.
Uh, just haven't gone through that before, so, um I mean, it's critical.
Otherwise, if you have an injury at that position.
And then all of a sudden, regardless of how well you're playing on defense, regardless of how well your lions playing or you're running, you know, all of a sudden, now, uh, if you can't function there, you're gonna lose football games Now, Coach Pain.
I'm gonna go to the defense.
Obviously, I think Dennis Allen all they've done an outstanding job and we could go on and on about the individual players who actually charge the football.
But I know we continue to do this.
Uh, this is like It's not even very good or greatest is dominant.
I'm looking at our D line and I'm talking about David and Yamada.
Cam Jordan Trade Henderson coming off the edge If Memorial Davis.
I'm looking at Saks quarterback kids.
Quarterback hurries, tackles for loss.
So I'm looking like eight sacks.
Airheads that seven tackles for loss.
That to me as a quarterback, it seems like Matt Ryan.
Uh, well, just like he wanted to fall down and then he didn't even, like, wanna fight.
I mean, it's amazing when you see that kind of production in the NFL game.
Now I look at Trey Hendrickson, where he's come from.
Look at Camp John DeMario Davis.
They all have stories.
But David, on your model as a little boy, didn't even know about American football.
And now look where he said, That's unbelievable.
Yeah, look, he's he's having an outstanding season.
And when we lost Sheldon here a few weeks back, uh, snap count has gone up.
All he does every week is just go out and play football.
Uh, you know, he reminds me of the defense of Lyman's version of Jari Evans, and I'm not making that jar is the whole thing guard.
But my point is, man, that you it's not that you take him for granted, but week in and week out, you get the same type of performance.
That man has gotten better every year, and he's He's 1000 snap snaps behind most of his peers because they've all played high school football.
And, you know, he kind of walked in the building up in Canada and said they had like to play and they said, Well, come on and it's a great story, but if you're around him, he's got a smile on his face.
He loves coming to work.
And, uh, man, you appreciate him.
Certainly, as a coach, we'll continue with Saints head coach Sean Payton when we return.
This is the Saints coaches show on the community Coffee Saints Radio Network.
Okay, once again, the Monday Night Coaches show will return.
And just a few moments here on SportsCastr.
Let's go ahead and go up some more news headlines.
We'll do that while we all wait for the on, um, Saints Coach.
You showed the return.
So let me get that up on the screen for you. Apologize.
Who? Sorry about that.
Hit the wrong button.
I got it up on the screen now, so let's give you those, Uh, let's go to ESPN.
Okay, Let's go to some more headlines.
Okay, let's put this up on the screen for you.
Okay? Mass are now required for players on sideline, um, as part of the new covert protocols.
So it looks like it they're going to be, um, implementing masses.
That's gonna be that should be implemented on the sidelines at all times because look, um, called violation will be a force.
It looks like If they do, they're gonna have to face a fine maximum players.
The travel will be reduced to 62 so it's probably going to be, um, coming down the pipeline.
So also, um, media access will be limited.
Um, uh, The total of 15 on independent members, um, can cover outdoor practices.
But independent parts may not enter the club facilities, so it looks like that's going to be coming down the pipeline.
So once again, this is from Kevin Schieffer.
You could reach him at ESPN s ESPN dot com.
Also, Mike McCarty expired Dallas Cowboys, Um, by smashing watermelons.
Looks like So this is from Tom Alter.
You could reach him at ESPN.
It's ESPN dot com.
Eso Once again they were expired.
Um, toe win the game yesterday, 31 28.
So looks like they right now there, they're They're getting back on track with Coach Bac RP.
So once again, uh, this is from Tom Martin.
This is some of the highlights will show you, um, Dallas scores a touchdown right there on screen pass or nice or screen pass going in, but it touched down.
So that's one of the highlights from the game, Dallas in Minnesota.
And then, um, 2nd, 2nd goal.
They throw a touchdown right here.
This will be a nice little past Plato CD land.
Nice little catch.
So that was an excellent catch right there.

We talked about this already, so let me get this off the screen.
We just talked about this.

Alvin Kamara becomes the first player in history with 500 yards rushing and receiving in each of his first four seasons on DSO.
Certainly this year, maybe, Uh incredibly, maybe more than all the others has just been incredibly consistent for you guys, especially in the absence of Michael Thomas and all of this coming off of, you know, getting the big contract that he had hoped to get.
How important is it with with you guys signing guys like Alvin Kamara when you give the big contract to get that type of contribution and knowing exactly what you're gonna get out of that player year after year? What's that mean for you guys? Not only offensively, but as a team and building the organization? Yeah.
I mean, look, when you go back in the draft and you're going through the process, you know, it's it's easy to select players and and then you you really ask yourself, Hey, is this a potential second contract player like you know? And what does that mean? That means there's, Ah, there's an appetite for football beyond just the financial element of it.
I think Alvin loves plan.
He's a fantastic team, mate.
Um, he has provided great versatility and he's got extremely high football like you.
I mean, he picks it up very quickly.
Um, all of those things.
So you can play him in a number of different roles, whether he's playing as a receiver, a slot receiver in the backfield, Um, if he needs to return a kickoff or punt, Uh, he's got that type of versatility and I would say also a great trade of his, especially its unique for his position.
He's very unselfish that she's happy it's Latavius just had a big run or watching anyone who scores a touchdown with with him on the field.
He's excited for them, Um, and he's a winner, and I'm glad he's on our team now.
You know, Coach paid the one thing you know, fans have asked me, uh, it wasn't Achilles heel in the beginning, especially the total yards as faras penalties.
But it just seems like you're being more discipline as of late assed faras penalties.
Is that What is that yelling at him? What is he doing to make a difference? Is that officiating crews? Because it just seemed like as of late, we're not anywhere near what you never wanna be nine penalties arm or around 100 yards, but it seems like we've been more discipline.
Yeah, Listen, I think all of the above I'm yelling.
I think sometimes it's officiating crews.
But I would also say to our players credit Generally speaking, when you when you see the fouls that that air the fouls that you're you don't wanna have Oftentimes it it could be a technique issue and you get out of position a little bit.
And then, uh, you know, you're grabbing outside your body, you pick a player.
Then at that point linebacker, corner, left guard, tight end.
And so you work on the technique.
And you understand, we spent a lot of time on the cruise each week who are getting with the red points are the bullet points as's faras fouls that they're calling that year and over the last two years and then what our record is with those officials dating back the last two years.
And where do they rank amongst the 17 cruise this year? You know, Are they calling more special team fouls or they you know, I think I think that's all that's important.
And, uh the yardage involved in that is significant.
And so we're working on it.
Uh, it's never perfect.
It's always right around the corner if you're not paying attention to it.
But the credit, our players, I think we've done a better job with that.
You know, Coach Pain, you gotta be proud of this because, you know, because I think you emphasize this, I'm at practice that I watch it and paying attention to detail.
Another area besides penalties special teams when you look at, you know, offensive, even special teams.
Uh, it's a third of the game, you know, basically, when you look at it, but it just seems like we've been outstanding overall, not not perfect, but outstanding.
With our kickoff and put coverage units and also a return game and the kick and punt return.
Now we have a lot of death.
Deonte Harris whether he's available, not looking Calloway.
So it just seems like I expect this every game, and I expect that this Sunday is the Broncos that when all said and done, we're winning in that area and I know you expect that also, yeah, it z man, it's It's one third of the equation and and none of the thirds are more important than the other.
We're gonna play an altitude this weekend.
They've got a kick off a guy who's gonna kick it deep.
You know, the balls fly up there so you might not have to kick returns then then depending on the wind.
How are you doing in the punt return game? And I I think the big thing back to the penalties.
You know, we've all seen Ah, man, a change of field position with with a return.
Or maybe maybe you just field a punt in the air and catch it fair. Catch it.
But if there's a foul on the play, it can negate all that.
So the field position battle.
I mean, if you buy into yards, equal points, then we're fighting for every yard.
Saints head coach Sean Payton coach.
I'm gonna leave you with this.
I know Bobby Bobby likes Thio.
He likes to barrage you with statistics in certain situations.
Todo that's That's not a statistic, Bobby and I appreciate that he does it. I've got one here.
It's a perfect state way.
It's almost like we talked about it, and we didn't.
But, Coach, you know, will Lutz has been such a good player for you guys has been so consistent.
Missed a field goal in yesterday's game.
And I know Bobby loves his odds on this.
Bobby would tell you I like my odds.
Yes, it's a little bit of the Saints now have won their last 10 games in which they've missed the field goal.
So I just want to give that to you in the next time.
You know, you're missing early field goal.
Maybe you feel a little bit better about it, Coach.
So, what, Bobby suggesting is, Maybe I burn a time out and freeze our kicker.
Hey, run the first three snaps and shake the first field goal attempts and you guys were pretty much unstoppable up.
You call the time out, coach.
So I just wanted you to think about this Is e Yeah.
Help you out So you don't hit the upright? Yeah, he's been super consistent with us on.
I'm talking about will and I'm and you know, when you decide to kick the field goal and when I say midfield, you know that there's a such a pro and a con There's three points, obviously, and you're kicking off.
But when you don't get one of those and it's e, I mean, look, Theo, nine Super Bowl, that was the difference in that game.
I mean, people forget we hit 3 50 plus yard field goals and then the Colts attempted one.
They weren't able to hit, you know, And then all of a sudden, offensively, your on the field and it seems like you're right at the 50 now.
We were at the 40 but I mean, that's significant.
When when you have confidence in a kicker toe to make a field goal there because, uh, it's not just the points, then you're kicking off and and you put the the field position back in your favor.
But, you know, when you miss the those long ones, you know you the offense comes right right out like a like they just had a good punt return.
Not now, Coach Payton.
It's like 15 seconds.
Zack, don't get mad at me.
Uh, it just seems like I love swag.
I love emotion or love Passion.
He just came to the team.
It seems like he's been here forever.
I mean, to me, that's a great thing alongside Demario Davis.
Yeah, listen, he loves playing football.
And so I generally speaking, that travels in in all 32 NFL locker rooms.
And then he comes back home where he played college football.
And he knows players on this team.
And there's a there's a vision and a role, and I'm glad we have him.
He's a physical player.
Uh, he's an extremely good pass rusher.
And so you know, when you're when you're playing a defense and you're trying to figure out what what linebacker, are you gonna sign the offensive line along with the four known rushers? You know, you could say, Hey, we're gonna We're gonna put the Mario in that front and now you have to deal with the back on Quan or vice versa.
And so when you have linebackers that can rush and really, uh, rush the passer, well, that's challenging on your protections.
It's challenging on the running backs and, uh, and that that's a great trade of Hiss.
Alright, Saints head coach Sean Payton, coach.
We appreciate the time.
Congrats on the win and good luck next week against Denver.
Thanks. All right, coach.

It's on the screen.
So you see everything.
Let's see what else.
Once again, the new in thing the Buccaneers will take on the Rams.
That will be just a few minutes on Monday night football.
That'll be just about involved.
Maybe about four minutes from now.
Once again, um Stephen A.
Smith here starts, um, with, um, talking about the Steelers are calling the Steelers overrated.
I think that's probably, um, let's see this.
I'm very, very worried because Ryan Clark is missing something that's very, very important.
What's the measuring stick? Max and Mollie and and and, uh, and Ryan Clark.
And I appreciate that.
Super Bowl trophy, Thank you very much, even though you retired of Redskins, but we'll deal with that later.
Here's the bottom line.
Kansas City Chiefs are the standard you're talking.
When I look at the Pittsburgh Steelers, I'm asking myself, What are the chances that this number three defense against the past, this number seven defense against the rush, the number one defense and points allowed in the entire NFL? What are the chances to knock off the Kansas City Chiefs? And if I look Stephen A Smith, be honest with you.
I know he's on ESPN and all that stuff, But the truth of the matter is, look, the Pittsburgh Steelers are for Riel this year.
That's just them.
That's just, um, no way describing it.
I mean what he could say.
Whatever he wants, any time he wants on his shows.
That's his show.
But the truth of the matter is what the truth comes out right now.
The Pittsburgh's here is our 10, and no, I mean, that's just no way to describe it.
So once again, Stephen A.
Smith talking about or the Steelers overrated? No, I don't think the Steelers are definitely overrated.
I really don't think they are because, to be honest, which is not even close to that situation.
So once again, that's from ESPN.
Go to ESPN dot com.
That's ESPN dot com.
Yeah, now what? We're going back to the Monday Night Coaches show That will be Saints way.
All have Curtis Johnson, Um, in just a few moments.
So we're going back there at a commercial break.
So wait for the commercial breaks. The end.
Eso Let's go to some twitters.
Let's go to some tweets.
Um, once again, looks like Gator football looks like Louis Virginia talking about the pelicans.
Um, it's time Thio Max.
I think they should absolutely should.
Max Brandon Ingram.
They should give him a Max deal because he's going to be playing for this team for a very long time, so I think they should do it now.
Once again, um, Ken Trahan talking about Belle Chase gets a hard earned victory against, um um de la Salle, the captured there to Russell matches.
So once again, congratulations to the Belle Chase.
Um, Cardinals Wrestling team Also Calvin K.
He's also on SportsCastr talking about the, um, play back in New England back a couple of years ago.
That was Wes Welker, um, on the Rams.
So once again, Pff talking about Taysom Hill Overall grade, 79.
5 overall and 81.
1 passing grades.
That's a pretty good, um, ****ysis there.
So that is what we're talking about.
So once again, uh, this is from ESPN.
Go to ESPN dot com.
We'll return to the Monday Night Coaches show that it's, uh, Curtis Johnson is on.
They're interviewing chorus Johnson.
Let's go ahead and go back to that in progress.
Thio called David Griffin Start working out those rookies over there in the building.
C. J. We appreciate you joining the showman.
Start you off with a question Ah, player that that I really don't know.
I've been really impressed with him, and he's really surprised me at the wide receiver position and he was so good.
And it is so good.
Um, in special teams, which was the reason he's brought in.
But Deontay Harris and his development at the wide receiver position I'm just curious.
Um, you know, from your perspective of maybe what's the, you know, whats the ceiling for Deontay Harris? What type of player can he be? And you see his role expanding, continuing to expand as a wide receiver in this offense and, uh oh, Johnson CJ Is it all about coaching? It's all up to you to get into the next level.
Well, you know what? I would say this.
I think Bill Bill Bridge special teams coaches with first guys who turned us on to him.
I mean, we, you know, last year training camp, he was really injured most of the time.
And I mean, we just we just didn't know what we had myself in a model Karlie, who is the receiver coach.
I mean, we just we just fell in lovely.
If there is a limit for this young man, I don't know where it is.
He could do it all.
Check your soft and take a moment the ball.
He's quick in and out of break in place, big go up.
So do you think is going to get the ball? This kid is just phenomenal, just getting used to playing and doing so much special teams.
But he's a phenomenal young man way now.
You know, CJ looking at If I like anything that is NFL history and Zach knows that.
And I'm looking at Michael Thomas and I think ultimately, you know, dealing with Andrew.
And he's coming back.
What 482nd of his career, he catch the past.
He broke the record of a player in the first five NFL seasons previously held by, ah, local product form Else You star Jarvis Landry, where at the end of 2018 season.
But he's now caught 55 more past than anyone in the first five seasons.
So it just seems like I don't know, getting Mike the ball.
You can't guard Mike whatever but the taste of male.
Throw it too hard.
It was like all of a sudden here, Zach on the radio, and he's saying, Oh, I don't know.
It was like too much juice on it I go? What? Michael Thomas dropped that ball? I don't know.
You were telling him There's no way you should drop that.
No, absolutely not.
You know, I guess, I guess.
Get out for a while.
You know, Maybe he took his eye off that one, but he's called him and he's like a human vacuum.
He catches everything for a big guy in short area quickness.
He could break away from guys.
He could run away from guys.
I mean, Michael, professional athlete.
But he had he had been playing for so long that some of his I was just happy to see him in a lot.
Back in the lineup, it just happened to be running. John.
Hey, just love watching his wonderful watch now CJ Saints wide receiver coach Curtis Johnson.
Uh, but you know, how I've been impressed with is another Tennessee product like Alvin Kamara.
It's all about opportunity.
Mark West Caliphate.
I mean, it just seems like, uh, Calloway that he will do whatever the team wants him to do.
You know, whether it's in the return game is a special teamer, and then he's also as a receiver.
I mean, he's not little 62 to 05 But you gotta be impressed so far with his work ethic and where he's at.
You know, I've been hearing about this young man for years.
One of the guys I coached at the University of Miami, coaching at Tennessee, Kevin did.
He'd always tell me about Marquez.
So when we got it myself in R and R C Donald pearly way we're beating about him.
But we just didn't see enough, but he didn't have enough spring ball like we call it.
Didn't have enough, you know, training camp.
But what? Every time we get the ball who was slashed to make a big play down, there would be another long run.
You know, Sean and those guys were wise enough not to pretty more fight to stop.
This kid is a player.
Um, we're just gonna get better.
Better, better smart.
Getting across into the offense is a dynamite special to this place.
Speaking with state wide receivers coach Curtis Johnson, CJ Emmanuel Sanders was brought in to be the number two guy next to Mike Thomas this year, kind of ah, desire of a lot of saints fans around the around the Gulf South in the last couple of years, and you know, he's been a big play receiver throughout his career.
And we saw him yesterday.
You know, get behind coverage a couple of times, get some opportunities down the field.
Do you feel like having tastes, um, or Jamous at quarterback almost unlocks Emmanuel's potential a little bit down the field, going through out.
So it's just a just a matter of time for the man, you know, a man way figuring him out.
He's taking us out.
He's getting to the office.
It doesn't matter.
I think the man who played for a bunch of different quarterbacks, Peyton Manning, one of me playing for I mean, he's gonna do well wherever he is, and whatever he does is just, you know, we just got to continue, create more place for him to do so well.
Way started, you know, develop so many weapons without then take this and all those guys and Jerry and you know it all the way.
Happy to have what we have to get all the guys you have playing for us.
But he had a fantastic player.
J talk about development of receivers because you gotta expanded practice squad.
It's different this, uh, year because of covert, uh, all those things fans that we're all familiar with.
Tommy Lee Lewis.
We all know about Austin Car, uh, Bennie Fowler.
Now he's on injured reserve.
But the one player that catches my attention because I don't know he's the biggest dude.
And that being, uh, Jawan Johnson, 64 to 31 out of Oregon, a rookie.
I mean, I've seen them at times.
Make plays like Calloway.
Hey, definitely does.
He's big, he's fast and he's physical.
That's the one thing that I could say that it was just unfortunate that he's playing a little bit behind Michael Thomas.
You know, we never got a chance ability what he could do because Mike's always making plays.
He was always in there.
I think you are gonna be a great player for us, but one thing about a big guy that's £235 man each and run, so there will always be a place for him on the roster somewhere.
Saints wide receivers coach Curtis Johnson.
We appreciate the time. As always.
I appreciate you coming on and reminding everybody of my basketball prowess and how good we were on the hardwood back in our day.
Appreciate all that stuff, but good luck out in Denver.
Congrats on the win this weekend.
All right, we'll step away when we come back.
I'll be joined by NFL ****yst, good friend of the show Mike, to tell you right here on the Saints, coaches show you're listening to the community Coffee Saints.
Okay, once again, the money thanks.
We'll return in just a few moments.
Just a few minutes remaining, we'll go over some more news on. We'll go over some more.
Twitter's Let's get that up on the screen for you.
I have it up on the screen so the twitters are on on the screen, so you'll see it.
So I'm gonna be going over the Twitter's.
Okay, let's go over some more.
Looks like let's say what's happening on a tweet on.
Once again, Um, a Jesse Curtis receives an offer to play for the University of Houston.
That's Coach uh, that Z um, Curtis Tak Lee received the A offer to go to Houston.
So looks like congratulations to this young man from Coach Jesse Curtis.
You could follow him.
He's the head coach. Also.
Calvin looks like Calvin Johnson.
Um, okay, the first black official cruise, so looks like that's in tonight's game.
So they will make history tonight.
So once again, the first NFL officiating crew that will be African American.
So once again, Ronald Jones, Um, I had a run, so looks like 37 at the 41 yard line.
Uh, that's updates from mob Greg Almond.
You could reach him at Gregg Allman.
Also, Alabama's, um, the Van T.
Smith tapped for the NFL draft, um, winner from week 12.
So looks like so that Z, uh, California win the league baseball.
Talking about that will begin in January of this year.
Also, Austin echl er rehab Looks like this young man.
Hopefully, this young man will come back stronger than ever.
Uh, he's doing his reps.
So it's Holly Road, um, talking about the Oklahoma City.
So it looks like, um, that Z no halftime shows there.
Also, the fairgrounds will open up this Thanksgiving.
So for horse racing, fans.
That is good news.
So But it's going to be, um um without fans.
So it's not in color hat.
So it looks like they're not gonna have fans, Um, A to the fairgrounds this year.
So due to Kobe 19 also once again, this is from Kansas.
Collegian Athletic Conference talking about jailing Scott, both offensive.
Been defensive player of the Year week.
So congratulations to this young man.
So, once again, this is from Kansas Collegian Athletic Conference.
And Kansas Collegian Athletic Conference will be going back to the States Coaches show here on on SportsCastrs.
So once again, thanks for joining us here.

Welcome back to the States.
Coaches show here in the community Coffee Saints radio network um Zach Street.
A chance to spend a little time with Saints head coach Sean Payton, as well as Curtis Johnson, wide receivers coach, outstanding wide receivers coach for the New Orleans Saints.
A guy Mike that that has really well, you talk about position coaches that have meant a lot to this organization and the Sean Payton era, you know, short of the little time he was up in Chicago for one year, got the head job.
But two lane, I believe for four seasons was gone.
And the other 10 years has been here in New Orleans.
And quite honestly, I think this is his most talented wide receiver group that he's ever had.
And you know, you go back and look and I know you know these guys.
Listen, these were friends of mine and they're called heroes almost in New Orleans.
But you know, the guys that used to make this offense click, I think, really to a man would tell you that Curtis Johnson played as big if not the biggest role in their success.
Uh, than anybody else in their career is just an outstanding football coach and ZAKA.
I can't call him a bio guy, but he's on the River Paris, So he's close.
I could take a baseball and throw it from the first to say, Charles, if I was close enough.
I remember Curtis when he ran track at ST Charles Catholic.
He was a tremendous track athlete.
So don't let him get you.
Well, maybe today you might be able to beat him, because but still, he was a great track athlete back in high school.
But he's been a tremendous coach and you look at, you know, getting.
He was at San Diego State.
He got Marshall Faulk toe leave New Orleans to go to San Diego State.
He recruited Reggie Wayne to go to Miami in Florida.
Man, he's done a great job, Tremendous recruited when he was in the college ranks and he's been an outstanding pro coach.
Well, let's be honest.
If you meet Curtis Johnson and you don't like him, we got something wrong with you.
Something wrong with you we got really is let Mike, you don't wanna talk about you are talking with you about Taysom Hill and your thoughts, and I'll share mine.
You know, it was a really interesting week to me.
The the amount of just polarizing beliefs that people had going into that football game and quite honestly believes that people were finding, you know, based on his role in the Saints offense and not on him as an actual quarterback with a game plan built around him.
And, you know, we'll continue to see people kind of huddled in their corners, really, no matter how he plays, unless he finishes the season at the spot and then goes undefeated when people will finally, you know, kind of concede that they were wrong.
But man, I just can't imagine asking for Mawr out of your backup quarterback who's never started in an NFL game before he was, he was efficient, you know? We're talking.
He was 18 of 23.
2 of those were drops on back to back place, right? So I mean, was, was highly efficient, you know, took care of the football and more than anything.
And I think maybe most importantly, he looked a little bit uncomfortable early and did not look uncomfortable at all by the second quarter.
Yeah, I think that was the thing I think people have to remember is when you gauging him, what are you gauging him on on the gadget plays he was involved with? If you look back at Brigham Young, he played in a system which was a pro style system.
Okay, Uh, I think the big question mark for me going in was how well will he hold his water and depression, so to speak, Because he had a tendency when they would put him in there and some of the passing plays If that signature guy wasn't there on the one read, I'm bolting out almost like a coat in the field.
I'm gonna take off and run with it because that's his instinct to take off what I think.
What I saw was much better patients in the pocket toe look over to feel better.
And I think that that is the biggest improvement I see of him from his days at BYU and today, because you really can't gauge him up the preseason game. Come on.
That's the biggest mirage in the world, a preseason game.
But I think when you look at him at BYU, he had that tendency.
Okay, My number one guy is not open.
I'm running with it because you're so talented as a runner.
I the thing that jumps out at me. One. He was accurate.
He was a 58% passer at BYU.
Look what he did Sunday.
He's in the seventies.
And the other part about how it iss off, how patient he waas toe, let receivers get open and not just take off with it because a lot of those patterns were much deeper patterns.
Then we're normally used to seeing from the Saints. Offense withdrew.
It's quick, it's fast and he cut you a million times.
But you know, Taysom is a different player, so you gotta give Sean a lot of credit toe adjusting his game plan to Taysom Hill.
Ah, lot of coaches are man.
You gonna run my system? Okay, there, bits and pieces, everybody's gonna run.
But he kind of opened it up and and played to taste some strength.
Now here's the part in the NFL that's difficult.
Doing it consistently.
Game in, game out because that separates you from okay, The one or two hit wonders from being, you know, a full time starter in the NFL.
Yeah, and I think again, I think it's a good point, and I think it's fair, and I think that that Sean Payton has been very clear about that as well.
And, you know, listen, it's we're gonna pick the guy that gives us the best chance to win that week.
I don't think you could have asked for Mawr out of taste him in that football game.
It does not mean that he's the quarterback of the future.
He has not been creased quarterback this week.
He's the equation quarterback of now, and I think, um, you know, in that way I thought I thought he did a great job.
You know, there's a slam throat of Mike Thomas in the third quarter, that football game, and there's a non black linebacker and he's coming right through the hole, and it is the It is the throw that I think that you're concerned.
That's the one that you've never seen him make.
You know, you just never seen it before.
And, man, he stood in there.
He delivered a strike and he hops up off the ground.
And Ugo, maybe, you know, Maybe maybe maybe we got something here.
The other thing to Zach.
Listen, I got to throw this out offensive line play was outstanding.
I know we talked about it before the game, and everybody wants to talk about the receivers and running backs and corners and everything else.
And quarterback, certainly.
But, man, when you went up front, good gracious, you're gonna win a lot of games in this league.
The Saints just didn't win upfront.
They dominated on both sides of the football upfront and that other than the defense, playing so great and, you know, seeing what Taysom could do, it's the line play that was so impressive on both sides of the football.
And but you're not going to hear a lot about it.
Okay, then that's not going to get the headlines of offensive defensive line play.
But look how big a presence they were yesterday.
And when they started to get in that group running the ball, then you could see those linemen.
Well, hey, Coach, don't throw the ball no more.
We were just gonna pound it at him and, you know, like I have to put my two cents in here.
We have to give Eastern credit shocker.
We gotta give Eastern credit.
Look, address Pete.
All of a sudden, he's not available.
Plug and play East has been outstanding.
I was going to say the same thing, Bobby, after Mike finished talking and you know, you always you always get to the end of training camp and what he started talking about.
He's not gonna beat him out.
He's gonna get cut.
They're going to cut him, but can't pay him all that money to be a backup.
You really you have to appreciate and respect just how dedicated the same front office has been to creating depth on this football team.
Sean talked about in our interview.
Bobby, Guys, we're going to get hurt every single week.
Every single team is dealing with it.
It's all about Have you developed somebody that can come in the game and perform and keep the train rolling? And Nick Easton has done that all year long, and you know, as much as if I was Nick, I would hate this whole rotation thing with Cesar Ruiz.
But man, those guys that both handled it in a really positive way and it's paid off in a substantial way for them because that line, like you said, really dominated 80 yards rushing in the fourth quarter yesterday on 17 carries.
That's a dream for an offensive line.
That's Nirvana right there.
But I wanna think that Coach Sean Payton, Curtis Johnson for joining us, of course.
Bobby Mark Menard in the booth.
Mike de Italian, all of you for listening and go check out this Monday Night Football game, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Rams.
And we'll see if the Saints would get an extra game here on the Bucks.
