I'm going fluff from flustered Sport zone and welcome back to another SportsCastr.
And tonight that picking, I do a little bit of an MBA Free agency recap.
So far, we're two days in, and, Boy, we have had quite a bit of stuff happened, so I don't know.
I'll be reviewing, like, some of the major transactions and stuff for about maybe 25 30 minutes longer.
We will see right, But I hope you guys enjoy again.
I know I didn't count a lot of basketball games this year, but I will be using my good friends basketball reference.
Tell me what this broadcast and I hope you enjoy it.
And also tomorrow it's a little quick update for you.
Tomorrow I'll be commenting Packers and cold staff for 25.
I was going to the Patriots game.
Something popped up last second, so other Packers colts instead.
But anyway, let's get in to the broadcast.
So I guess, you know, and not really a free agency move.
But this was ultimately a trade that happened pretty much an hour before.
Application window goodness.
Well, us second on a why? No, that's on microphone on my computer, all right? I don't know if you guys could hear that, but we're back up and running now.
Now the computer, the voice in my computer to start going out for whatever reason.
So, yeah, anyway, the Celtics trade center and it's catered.
A three way trade with the Trail Blazers in the Grizzlies on its cater will go back to Portland.
He played there in the 2019 season.
Actually, we're heading over to the Celtics.
Yeah, he's played on the Jazz, The Thunder Knicks, the Trailblazers in the Celtics stand back to Portland and the Grizzlies.
We'll receive Mario Hazara and rookie Desmond bein from the Blazers, and the Celtics will get a future draft pick from the Grizzlies.
Uh, I don't know.
This is, I think, a pretty big trade.
I think it definitely helps out Portland quite a bit.
Without a question, I think Ask Kantor could do pretty well next to Damian Lillard and C. J. McCollum.
I don't really know what the two players coming from Minnesota or excuse me from Memphis.
I don't really know it.
What they're gonna do or not.
What I will say is that as Cantor Ah, he's a decent player.
I mean, he's not terrible.
8.1 points per game.
I averages one assist.
And again, I'm freeing off his stats from last season.
2 field goal percentage.
He's 14.3% from three point attempts.
That's not great.
70 plus percent free throw.
He averages about 22.
4 minutes a game.
It's not terrible.
I mean, you know he's can enter entering into his ninth year.
Yeah, he's definitely got a little bit wearing tearing him.
I don't even know if Portland will extend him once his original contract expires.
But, hey, I certainly can't complain.
To say the least.
That was a That was a pretty even trade for all sides matter.
All right, now we'll talk about Goran Dragic.
Yes, now entering into his 12th year, resigning with the You sound with that heat? Yeah, and he's been with Miami since 2015, Of course.
13 14 all n B A team.
Yeah, I mean, in 59 games last year, you averaged 16.
2 points per game, 3.
1 assists, You know, obviously a pretty key role in Miami's quest to the NBA Finals.
I think this is a smart signing.
I mean, it's kind of tough to say because I don't know if he's necessarily worth 37 million.
I would have probably lowered that down to about 32 million at the same time.
And you just made the NBA Finals.
You should have some sort of pay raise.
I would think so.
I guess that kind of makes sense.
Why the He and the Heat are also going after a lot.
You know, smaller moves as well.
You know Jay Crowder.
We'll get to him in a little bit, but they definitely got rid of some players.
They're kinda branch up that salary cap room.
So yeah, I can't really complain.
Their tragic, good signing again, I would have probably came just a little bit lower.
But okay is what is the core 44 things for tuning, but overall a pretty a pretty good contract.
All right, Next up we have Wesley Matthews from the Bucks head over to the Lakers.
He's entering into his 11th year and this is going to be his wow.
Actually playing quite a bit of teams.
This is going to be his 17 now.
That's not great on overall.
4 points per game. That's not great.
2.5 rebounds, Whatever.
6 field goal percentage.
And he actually hits.
Not that bad at three point range either. 36.4.
His career averages 36.1%.
Any averages? About 76.
5% of floor time, I think so Are free throw percentage.
You have just about 8.
1 minutes a game.
Overall, there will be a pretty good death piece for the Lakers, especially if they're gonna repeat champions of kind of you pick up good pieces like Wesley Matthews to small forward and shooting guard.
Yeah, and I think he's going to dio pretty well.
I mean, he was doing decent in Milwaukee.
Yeah, the minutes will probably lower down a little bit, but he was pretty much like a role player to begin with.
And, you know, just going to a better system in l.
A I think we'll give him a much better shot at getting a championship.
Hey, who knows, Right? Thanks, lady Core.
44 for the tipping.
Cool for tuning in.
Definitely be interesting to see how I Matthews does, but I'm certainly interested in this one.
Our next one was definitely an overpayment.
Mason Bluhm Lee Coming over from the Nuggets to the Pistons last season, he wasn't actually that bad.
5 field goal percent.
That's certainly not bad.
He never attempted three.
That's kind of what you expect out of a center.
And he also had a 53.
5 field goal, a free throw percentage along some 0.
2 points per game, 5.
2 rebounds as well.
You know, it is a bit of an overpayment.
If I was the Pistons, I would have honestly tried to get back Andre Drummond.
Although that that definitely wasn't gonna happen.
I would have released. Gave it a shot.
Uh, you know, the average is about 18 minutes a game.
I mean, you'll definitely log you minutes will definitely get your points.
He's a pretty good passer.
And, yeah, he's 6 11, right would be towering over dudes.
But, you know, I think overall, I don't know if I I think I would have definitely lowered the contract pretty much Without a question, I probably would say a three year, 25 mil.
I probably gonna knock that down to about maybe two years at around 17 mil.
I think that kind of been more fair or you know, something along the lines of that, that dimension, he is actually already Yeah, he's already 30.
I don't really know if you want to give, you know, a center whose pretty much playing the best he has been since you know, a couple of years ago, I really know if you really want to give this guy a 25 million, but the Pistons will certainly take the shot.
It'll be interesting to see how it works, but I heard a lot of people on Social me, including myself.
I even think that's been an overpayment.
Thanks, Pig rock for tuning in, and now we get into the max out contract De Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings.
Yeah, you got Max out deal, but the regular deal is five years 100 63 million.
The max out deal is five years.
Yeah, Dad, this is another overpayment.
I think the aren't Fox rookie at the 2018 class or 17? Uh, yeah, it was It was 2017 costs, but I I mean, I think this is an overpayment.
Listen, I know he's one of the most exciting young players in the league.
He will be 23 of that time next season starts, but big one? Yeah, I think overall, it's an overpayment.
And it is, you know? Yeah.
You sure? You take a look at the stats.
You're thinking a look at the, you know, 200? Yeah.
1 points per game, 6.
8 rebounds, 48% field goal shot, 29.
2% from three point range.
He's hit over 70% of his free throws, and yes, I get it.
There is definitely room to improve, and they got him pretty much right around the right time, obviously, until he's in his mid to late twenties.
That's when this contracts going through, which is obviously what you kind of want to do for a franchise player like De Aaron Box.
But let me put to you this way.
Imagine the sabers giving Jack Eichel like a maxed out contract.
You take a look at the sabers and the Sacramento Kings, and I got in the same spot there, like both teams or yes, they're young and they could do something.
But you really aren't expecting them to make the playoffs, especially next year.
And I think Sacramento's making the playoffs for the next couple of years with how really good the Western Conference is.
That's the thing.
I think if you know you're young player on a championship contending team, I think you make this contract no problem.
And again, it's not that Fox is bad by any means.
He is a very solid player, but at the same time, it's just you're not in playoff contention right now, so I think I would have gave him a two or three year deal at first.
Then I would have game the five once you're really in that playoff form.
But that's just my opinion.
Thinks I went and Maya for tuning in and all right, Dwight Howard signs a one year, $2.
6 million deal with the Philadelphia 70 Sixers.
Alright, so 76 has got their new center overall.
He's definitely not the player who once was, obviously, you know, drafted number one overall by the Magic in old four.
Yeah, you know, 34 years old.
This is kind of what you're expecting out of him.
You know, he's coming off his first championship.
Yes, he's a future Hall of Famer.
But in reality, he's just, I think, just trying to find out reasons why, uh, pretty much not retire at this point because his statistics are not that great.
I mean, you know, they're still pretty decent.
Don't get me wrong, but, you know, some 340.
5 points per game, some 0.3 rebounds.
Okay, that's pretty good.
But like Onley 0.
7 assists, that could be a little bit better, for he throws 51.4.
I just I see too many flaws in his game playing now that he's going to be pretty much 35 by the time next season starts.
So I mean, it was smart by Philadelphia, only giving him a one year deal.
It really can't backfire.
Like even if he gets injured.
Okay, you're only giving them a one year deal.
You just know not to resign him.
Don't Howard, though, It'll be interesting.
But I feel like the 76 year should have went after.
I feel like they could have went after plumbing, because I feel like the 76 is there, like a really solid center away from really contending for, ah, it really contending in the East.
And I don't know it's white how it's gonna bring that.
All right, maybe it is prime, but I don't think he will anymore anyway.
And the Trail Glades resigned, shooting forward and shooting guard Ronnie Hood to a two year, 21 point million dollar deal.
Yeah, this was This was a This was a good signing.
I like this one a lot.
Hood, already on his third team in just five years, average 11 points a game, not to mention he was injured.
He hurt his knee, and he that's what sideline him.
For the majority of the season, he only had 21 games, 3.
5 assists over 50% field goal wise.
He was averaging 12.2 minutes per game.
Listen, I can't really complain about Ronnie Hood.
I mean, he is a fantastic player, and that was smart.
They brought him back Thio, Uh, because, you know, you wanted to pair him up, I think, within its Kenter and not to mention you already have become alert and a pretty solid bench.
You know, this is a Portland team who, you know, ran the table and made the playoffs.
You know? Imagine if they have run the hood.
I'm not saying they would upset the Lakers, because they wouldn't have, but they may have more of a syriza lot of those.
A lot of those games against the Lakers were lost sight in the post season this year.
So I guess you never know.
I felt like if they are good, they would have been a lot closer.
I don't think they would have lost, but they would have been a lot closer and some of those games things up in my afford the thumbs up.
Then we'll continue on here.
What? Jeremiah Grant.
Okay, this one was this one was projected toe happen.
I don't think many.
What had happened? Jeremiah Grant.
He got signed by the Pistons.
A three year, $60 million deal.
A power forward in small photo shoots, Right? He's 26 years old.
I mean, you got him a pretty much the right age.
Coming off a career year, averaging 12 points a game, 1.
8 field goal percentage, a 38.
93 point percentage as well, averaging just over 14 minutes. Game. Yeah.
I mean, you really can't complain with Jamaica Grant.
I mean, if he was playing solid on a very good Nuggets team, I'm only expecting you know, that playoff experience, you know, really brush up on the young Pistons.
And I don't know.
I feel like Detroit.
There's still not great, but I feel like they might be able to make a wild card spot like they might be the eighth seed in the East, but like they'll make it.
They'll just be like the worst team and probably swept by the bucks of the Celtics.
Raptors, whoever, But yeah, I think overall, the Pistons could be a sleeper team for the playoffs.
And again, I'm not saying they go far if they make it anyway.
But definitely having a Jermaine Grant for a right price range to me. 60 mil.
You could save a little bit too much, but I think it's okay coming off a career year and he's 26 again.
You're you're getting them pretty much at the right amount of time.
And, yeah, this was rumored for, like, the past month, so I don't think anyone was really surprised when that actually happened.
All right, up next, we have Brook Lopez going from the Bucks all the way to Washington.
Do you play with the Nationals? I mean, it's certainly not horrible.
I mean, already has over 700 games under his belt, but not not Not terrible idea.
15 year, 12 points last year, 4.
6 rebounds and 1.
5 sisters, also his career average.
And he wasn't also terrible in the field. Goal percentage.
There are only 43.
5 averaging about 15 minutes a game.
He was the main center on that Bucks team, and I was decent, but at the same time, you could have done better, but at the same time, it's kind.
It's kind of what you'd expect that.
But I think you know, you obviously wasn't the player. Brook Lopez.
He wasn't the player he once was when he was on the Nets.
And, heck, even the Lakers.
But you know, overall, he's still a decent veteran.
Have around, I think.
And, you know, entering into his 12th year.
You should be pretty good, I think.
Not to mention he made the all defense team this year.
Forgot to mention that.
So, yeah, no, I I think or glow puzzle foot fine in Washington.
I'm pretty sure you're trying to get the starting job as the center role as well.
Here's Joe Uh, 4864 tuning in.
We'll continue on here with the news that happened today.
Justin Holiday, now for the Pistons, are not for the Pistons.
He went overall, every sound with the Pacers.
What I'm trying to say this is going to be is eighth year.
He was pretty good last year, 8.
3 points per game, 3.
Both of those higher than his regular career averages.
not to mention 79.
1% from the free throw line.
That's certainly not terrible, either.
Now, averaging about 12 minutes a game.
I mean, he's 31 so this is kind of the contract you expect him to get three years, 18.
1 Mill Pacer fans really can't be complaining about this.
And in fact, they're not.
Because again, this this is this is the contract you would give to a 31 year old, too is coming off one of his better year statistically, but is expected to stay around this area.
If not get a little bit worse.
Not saying just in all these all Star anything because he hasn't made I'll start ending his career.
But what I will say is that he is a very good player to have around, and you know, he could play in the small forward or shooting guard.
He has been a pretty effective shooting guard for Indiana for the past couple of seasons, so, yeah, I got no complaints from me and wow, I should say this year he played on Memphis.
Last year was pretty good, but yeah, he's playing on the Pacers This year.
Obviously no re sign him, and I think that's a smart move.
All right, now we have Chris done going from the Bulls to the Hawks, done and Onley his fourth year.
It was the fifth overall pick by the Timberwolves.
Well, I wouldn't say his fifth overall material, but overall, you didn't have a pretty good year.
44% from the field goal percentage, 25.
That's Ah, that's a bit too Well, I think a career high looks like in vehicle percentage.
Excuse me and free throw percentage.
6 rebounds game. Okay, so it wasn't terrible.
This is a pretty safe contract, I'd say by the Hawks.
It's really you know, you're trying to revive a guy's career and you're just trying to give Trae Young another guy to work with.
I think as well.
So yeah, Jan really complain with that one.
All right? Now the Raptors, they do the right thing here and they will resign.
Fred, then Fleet.
I know a lot of after fans who have been upset if he was gone and he is not going anywhere 17.
6 points per game.
Yeah, that's certainly not terrible.
6 assists per game.
The field goal percentage.
His career averages 41.
2 surprisingly, and his three point percentage is 39%.
That dot his career is 39.3.
Not to mention is free.
8% also better than his average in his career, 84.2.
And, yeah, it was actually about 16.
3 minutes per game.
It was pretty good.
And he also at 5.
8 wind shares, which means number of wins by a certain player.
Got to mentioning That's after all these players, but yeah, I mean, definitely been a good player again.
In his fourth year, Toronto would have been nuts to not resign them.
And, you know, for a four year, $85 million deal, you could say it's a structure you want, But the problem is he's 26 he just came off a career year the year after winning a championship.
Yeah, it was a good it was good re signing we all.
We all had a good feeling he was going to recite anyway and ultimately, he did.
And ultimately it was the right call.
I think 100% van Fleet is definitely fantastic.
He's a good shooter.
He's also pretty good working underneath the basket as well.
So yeah, I got no complaints here, man.
Fleet besides the Toronto.
And now we are getting into Gordon Hayward and all right, all right, all right, all right.
What do you want me to say? This is the most typical Michael Jordan GM thing you could ever done.
Ah, 120 million for Gordon Hayward.
Who? I hate to say it will probably get injured sometime next season.
And it's not gonna be a little injury that I'll lock him up for a couple games.
Now I'm talking about an injury.
It's got a sideline for about half the season.
Not to mention Hayward is already 30.
He's already 30.
Yes, He had a 50% field goal percent.
5 field goal percentage.
Yes, He was averaging 18.
1 minutes a game.
Oh, bad this career averages.
Yeah, but Still, this is the first year stayed healthy and about what, 23 years? Ridiculous, Obviously, In 2017 18, when you first came over to Boston, he played that one game.
He got hurt and then 20.
And then last year and then 20 18, 19, you stay pretty healthy.
And then last year he played all 52 regular season games.
But many of injury prone are inconsistent.
We haven't seen enough consistently from Gordon Hayward since he left.
The Jazz is what I'm trying to get Thio and the fact you're paying a guy 130 million Gordon Hayward.
Mind you, I mean Oh, yeah, goodness.
There's a lot of better players out here in free agency.
I'm being dead serious.
There is Burn a bridge.
One of the better ones.
Don't get me wrong, but I would have I would have probably been more lean, giving Hayward the four year, 85 mil deal and then maybe given Fred Van Fleet like the Raptors resend to a four year $120 million.
And I think that would make more sense.
I'm not saying hey, you know, because a word is pretty decent when healthy is good, but it says he's not $120 million worthy.
And again, I just think he's bound to get hurt because he's just been so injury prone since, pretty much leaving the Jazz.
I hate to say it, but that's unfortunately been the case.
Mhm, I don't know.
That was an overpayment by Charlotte, and that was the most Charlotte thing you really could have projected them to do.
Honestly, it was kind of expected that the following move definitely made sense.
The Hornets waved, shooting forward and shooting guard Nicholas Bait UM, and will save $27.
1 million of salary cap room.
Why did they release the solid role player? Because they have to pay Gordon Hayward.
And you know the Hornets one.
I don't even think they're in playoff contention.
Still, even with even with Howard are Hayward, Excuse me and Terry Rozier.
I still don't even think they're a playoff team.
It's like again, there's other teams like the Pistons.
Um, good Pistons, the Pacers.
There's just other better teams out there.
They'll be fighting for the last wildcard spots.
Maybe the Nationals event, not the national thought.
The Wizards making a baseball, Maybe the Wizards.
I think they have all better shots and making the playoffs than the Hornet's Dio.
And simply put, this is a typical Charlotte Hornets move.
I don't know why they did it, but they did it anyway.
We're moving on to Jae Crowder re signed a three year deal with the Sons.
Crowder was very good with the Celtics.
Even better with the Heat.
Honestly, Um, yeah, he was.
He was pretty solid.
Last year, he averaged 10.
5 points per game, 5.
5 assists and 34.
3 field goal percentage.
That that's not terrible. 77.6.
Free throw again.
I 30 years old, self of the sons.
This is actually a pretty smart signing.
To be honest with you, you're trying to pick up a guy who, as a lot of, ah, a lot of experience under his belt, especially for the sons like, for example, that now the Sun's got Chris Paul and stuff.
I do think that these sons will actually make the playoffs next year, not to mention remember how good they did the bubble they went under feeding and Devin Booker was just carrying them with a bunch of scrubs.
I mean, now, now you have Paul Crowder not not re respectful sons, by the way, but really don't have much else besides of Booker.
Then you have Paul and Crowder.
Yeah, that already onto a near playoff caliber team.
They should be able to make it without a question barring any injuries and stuff like that.
I think the sun's got very bright future.
I think they have one of the better futures in the entire MBA, especially hang in the next year.
So you know it's trying to surround Devin Booker.
I can't complaint the signing.
All right, we're going to the heat siding.
He used to play in the Celtics as well.
He also playing the Lakers last year when the championship with them.
Uh, yeah, Not to mention it's also a two time defensive player.
Thea, our all time defensive team twice.
But yeah, I mean, really, I'm looking at a staff to mean 40 4.
That's not bad at all.
3 free throws pretty good heat against more depth again.
Miami is trying to build onto the solid team they've already gotten.
I know they also resigned, Miles Leonard.
I'm not going to really talk about that.
But the heat also recent Miles Leonard.
And of course, we talked about Dragic earlier.
So yeah, I mean, for a guy who's 29 who is coming off a pretty hot run during the playoffs.
I can't Really I can't really complain That that was That was a decent citing an overpayment in under.
Pam, that was a good contract.
All right, so now we're moving on to our final three players here. It actually four.
Because I've just gotten word that Mm.
I just got also got word that Brad Wanamaker time with warriors.
But we wanna talk about that.
Actually, you were the one that we're down to.
Three more players.
So we have Ron J. Rondo.
He is not retiring.
He is somehow some way still kicking around in the n b A.
I I don't know how honestly and his death.
Yeah, they definitely falling off from his prime, as you'd expect.
1 points per game. Only three rebounds.
8 field goal percent. That's not terrible, I guess.
8 from the field from the three pointer, 65 from free throws to again, You're expecting Rondo, set to be a little bit better, but yet again, he is 30 40 34 I think, like 30 eight, anyway.
All right, well, you still be still around.
You know, he's a good player.
I guess the Hawks will definitely use them.
Hawks signed to a two year, $15 million deal.
Yeah, I can't really complain with that one.
That that was a decent signing, I guess, Especially since, since it's only for two years, no harm, no foul, especially if it's really back to this year.
You could just kind of all right, and then we have two more re signs up.
At the end of the broadcast, Carmelo Anthony will stay in Portland.
I predicted that one from a mile away.
I kind of sensed he was going to stay with Portland.
Of course, coming back after playing in Europe for a couple of years, Um, 15.
4 points per game, 6.
3 rebounds, 1.5 assists.
Yeah, these really matches career highest per se but again for player.
Really hasn't had much MBA experience in the past couple of seasons.
He did well because remember, I played with the thunder.
They played in Europe for a season.
Then he went over to the Rockets and he played 10 games there.
And then, of course, played all 58 games of the Trail Blazers.
And, yeah, I was averaging pretty good stats.
Not to mention his averaging a total of 15.
4 points per game, which certainly isn't terrible.
I mean, especially for a role player like him at this point.
I kind of sense Carmelo was gonna do pretty well.
I said he would win Comeback Player of the year.
Okay, well, that that was maybe a stretch.
Of course, if you remember that episode the all sports talk show that was also the one I said Taco Fall.
When Rookie of the Year.
Yeah, see, my basketball knowledge has expanded you guys, by the way, Taco fall.
I got his, um, yeah, his loves it.
That's franchise tag.
But his his player option Celtics except his player options A Taco Falls still staying in Boston? Yeah, Carmelo Anthony, that's good signing and the one into our last one.
Paul Millsap is saying in Denver for another season they'll be making 10,000,011 0.
6 points per game, 5.
2 field goal percentage, 43.
Oh, wow, It's created. There's only 34.3.
I remember when Millsap was a beast on the Atlanta Hawks.
Of course, that was quite a few years ago nowadays.
But, man, he's been pretty good with the Nuggets.
He's gonna spend his fourth year with Denver now.
Nobody's gonna be decent again.
I think the Nuggets should without a question b a playoff team with Jojic and Jamal Murray.
So they're fine.
Resigning, thereby Denver.
Well, that is it.
I hope you guys enjoyed it.
You know, about half an hour's kind of what I expected to be read off some staff, give my opinions a little bit again.
I think right now.
And I guess I'll quickly ended off with What do I think was the move in, like, the worst move? Yeah, we'll do that.
I think the best move here was the Raptors resigning Fred Van Fleet to the four year, $85 million deal again? I think he's only gonna get better.
He's still in his mid twenties.
There's definitely room to improve their I think that was a nice signing and then the worst, the transaction that literally happened right after that.
We're going to the Hornets for a four year $120 million deal, So yeah, I thought manfully it was the best move so far and Hayward was the worst.
Without a question, uh, I got you know, there's a couple overpayments, but for the most part, everything worked out well.
And we've had a crazy MBA for energy.
We didn't even get to everything.
Like I said, I don't but I wanna make her Just got time of the Warriors.
I know Steve Adams got traded.
The pelicans Ah, lot of other stuff.
What is going on? It was it was a lot, but that's why you follow grant for you.
