What is up? Everyone? Thistles! Empire Sports Talk with may look Backman as I'll be covering the Big Apple's top stories and everything related to the Yankees Jets Nixon that's all live from my home studio here in Arlington, Texas.
Well, it may be 2000 miles away.
I still got the best New York hot takes on the Internet with all that, means said, Let's happen in today's topics.
Um, we'll get into today is, um, it's a by week for the Jets.
So obviously no game.
There was a huge game on Monday Night Football.
If you did not catch it, it was a surprisingly well played.
Now I want to say well played but a competitive game that I didn't expect.
I didn't expect that at all between the Jets and Patriots in the middle lands in New Jersey.
And we'll cover that because, as a Jets fan, I thought we had I thought we had the game.
I will, so I'll give you my recap of the Monday night game.
Obviously, uh, tell you tell you some things that really irritated many things that look good for the Jets and obviously things that didn't so we'll get into that.
But again, there is a bye week this week.
So if anyone has questions, when I finish up with the recap on Monday night and just talking about it, any football questions? I mean, this is empire sports talk.
So any, Like I know the N B. A draft is next week.
So any questions about, like, the Knicks or Nets or like anything, I'd be happy to answer that after I get finished wrapping up the Jets game.
Really? Looking ahead that they're kind of season is the whole S o.
I mean, let's just dive right into it.
For the Monday night game, the Jets lost a tough one.
They lost New England Patriots, led by Cham noon 32 27 on, and they lost on a 51 yard field goal by Nick. Full coup.
What is a former Jet? Former Jets kicker? Uh, extremely old really old who had back injuries like they were saying it was even questionable for the game.
It's a 51 yard field goal toe end our chances at a potential first win this season, right? And we lose 20.
I'm excuse me 30 to 27.
Well, it was tough to deal with this loss because there's good and bad to come from this loss, and we'll start with the bad as the Jets are obviously Wensley winless.
We're all in nine, have not won a game this season, and things have not look good at all in any games, really, this season there was a game against Denver on Thursday Night Football.
Excuse me, that was competitive.
But if you have watched it, it really wasn't as competitive and as a Jets fan thinking, Oh, we have this one as Monday night's game against the Patriots was considering, we actually had a 10 point lead in the fourth quarter against a Cam Newton who had not been playing Well, um, I've been a huge Cam Newton fan going into the season, right? Um, I was like, Okay, Cam's gonna come back.
He's going to really prove the league wrong.
The Patriots Josh McDaniels is gonna put him in a great situation, and that hasn't been the case.
Granted, he did miss a game and kind of obviously was lingering from his positive co vid 19 test.
And so he missed a game.
Obviously, when you're out for.
What is it? 10 days, You get fatigued.
I mean, I believe the status for athletes 48 hours without doing anything is when you become out of shape.
So obviously scam wasn't camp.
He had the rough game against Buffalo, where he funded the ball going to, um, what was it? He was inside the red zone, fumbled the ball when they just needed field goal to tie the game.
The league division leading Buffalo Bills.
They were not able to do that.
Eso cams, taking a lot of heat.
And while if you look at his box score yes, he completed a lot of passes completed.
Completion percentage was high.
If you watched the game, you saw that he was not throwing the ball down the field down the field at all.
I compare him a little bit, too, how Drew Brees had been playing earlier in the season, where Drew Brees was one of the worst, uh, quarterbacks during the ball.
At least right cam was just little five yards dunks.
You know, dunks and dimes toe running, back coming out along with slot receivers, and he well not all slot receivers.
Jacoby Meyers and we'll get into him.
Had an absolutely fabulous, absolutely fabulous game for New England.
And he was the go to man for Cam Newton.
Put back to camp.
He did not have a Cam Newton game where he was running.
Run the ball all around, you know, throwing it deep.
Cam Newton game of you know, his prime M V P season.
Obviously, we haven't seen much of that now, but just looking at the running game he, Josh McDaniels and Belichick.
They talked about this.
If you watch the broadcast, they said they taught, McDaniels told them, and Belichick told the announcers that Okay, we're going to do something different this week.
We're going to try something different.
And it turned out to be that they just didn't decided not to run Cam Newton, which I don't know how effective that is.
We did see Cam on multiple attempts die for the first down.
He did Q B snakes, and you always gotta run camp.
He could be what could be could be a line back.
He's so Cam is so big as a quarterback that you have to run them just to keep the defense.
You know, guessing.
That's what he came in the league, into the league as a runner and everything.
So but they really limited that s o that made camp at the camp.
Have to sit back in the pocket pocket and throw the ball more what you did.
Well, just dinks and dimes.
But, you know, granted to him, he made him.
He didn't miss one receiver deep late in the game, but obviously that didn't come back to bite him as they ended up winning the game.
Rex Burkhead for the Patriots.
Had an absolutely great game.
He had a really great third quarters.
They propelled the Patriots back.
The Jets had it.
Okay, this is where we're gonna give him the bad for the Jets on the Mystics.
This is the team I've been watching now for nine games, and we're not a good team.
If you've not watched the Jets at all of this for the last nine games, you know, the Jets are bad team.
I'm as a Jets fan.
No, the Jets are bad team, right? And it showed with our mistakes.
I'm gonna rattle off at least.
Yeah, three, right here.
If you watch it, you probably saw clips or screenshots 12 men on the field.
We get thumb down in the we stop them down in the end, Red zone, Gettinto kick a field goal.
And then when we get our field goal unit onto the field, we have 12 men on the field allowing a penalty.
And it was, I believe, fourth and one.
But the Patriots were down 10 at that point, so they had to take points, so they were able to get the first down.
They weren't going for it on 3rd and 1/4 and one because of the fact that they had to get points right there.
And a field goal, you know, cuts it to a one score game.
Just get 12 men on the field.
Five yard penalty gives the Patriots a free first down.
Luckily, the Jets stopped him on the next three downs, had him still kicked a field goal but still almost gave the Patriots of golden opportunity to there.
Another one is Flacco's interception.
If you were watching the game, the Jets came out.
They came back from a Patriots drive.
The Patriots got the second half kickoff.
11 play Really good.
Dr Rex Burkhead.
It was really a lot of just running him.
Flack on the Jets came down and they absolutely bald out and they scored a touchdown in 11th place.
Took some clock, and you're like, Wow, Flacco's been playing well.
He played great in the first half, had absolutely dimes toe Jamison Crowder, Right? Very next possession of the Jets after the Patriots responded.
Once again, Flacco first play throws an absolute bomb.
What was it? 30 yards down the field? He had two guys crossing underneath on like a little slant cross route.
And he just totally decided I'm going to throw the deep ball.
Got picked off by J. C.
Jackson, who's supposed to be the hair to step on.
Gilmore. Stephon Gilmore Don't play.
Jackson picked it up. Expect that pick was huge, as that was the turning point.
But Flacco It was a poor decision on his part, and it cost the Jets time.
That's the Jets ran.
What was it? They ran 15 plays in the second half, and 11 was on one drive. The first drive they had.
Excuse me in the fourth quarter, No, no.
In the second half.
They only ran 15 plays in the second half.
You know you can't win a game.
I mean, the Patriots were doing 15 plays on a single single drive, and the Jets through only ran 15 plays in the half.
Not a recipe for your success.
As obviously we showed with the Jets losing the game and then the last one, this one had me screaming at my TV.
As Cam Newton completes a pass down the field, Jacoby Meyers has to slide to catch the ball right, so he's already on the ground.
There's three seconds left and three Jets players run over to down him.
You know, touch and make sure.
Okay, he's down.
They're in field goal range now.
They weren't and Cam gotten got them into field goal range with that pass, and they Patriots obviously called time out, got their field goal unit on the field.
But what had me angry was, he's already on the ground.
He can't get up right or he can get up, But he says he's sworn by Jets defenders while the Jets just run over there and, you know, down in immediately for no reason.
If they didn't, he could have.
They could have let the time run off the clock going toe over time and see, you know how the court coin flip is.
That's another discussion to see how you know the overtime rules in the NFL work.
But right, they down and they're able to call the time out and get their field goal unit on on the field and score touchdown.
I mean, kick the field goal, right? So just the mist aches and the lack of football i Q.
By the Jets players is saddening, and it's sadly expected as a Jets fan watching them play.
Right? Um, we've talked about this before, just Sam Donald's future.
Flacco played great 262 yards, three touchdowns, one interception on 7 to 72% percent completion.
Right? Um, the Jets had really played awful without Sam Donald and his three years here.
When he has been injured and not played, the jets have lost every single game.
Okay, uh, so the fact that Flacco gave them an opportunity is great.
I don't see him.
If when Donald gets healthy, Donald's gonna play.
Because this is still Donald fighting for an opportunity to have that quarterback position, and it will be a real shame if he does get let go.
I know the Jets are looking to trade on and everything, but it's looking more more likely.
We're gonna draft travel Lawrence, and that's I'm happy with that.
As long as Adam Gaze has gone as well.
Talking about draft position.
The Jets Air Owen nine right, worst record in the league.
So we are in play for that number one pick in the NFL draft, right? Sadly, the Jaguars or one and seven.
So if we had won that game, this is the good news I was talking about at the beginning of the Jets losing.
If we actually had won that game, we would have tied our chances with the Jaguars at the number one pick.
Obviously, more stuff has to play out.
What? Um, if we ended up with a tie with the Jaguars for amount of winds, the Jag wires do hold the tiebreaker due to just strength of schedule.
They have a better strength of schedule or easy whatever.
So if we do end up with the tie is were the first two teams in the league.
The JAG wires are going to get the first pick over us, and I imagine they take Trevor Lawrence.
Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if this happens, because that's what happens when your Jets fan right.
Everything just doesn't go your way, as it's just a multitude of things, not aligning correctly for the Jets.
So even if they would have won that game, it kind of it would have been bad.
So and it in a weird glass half full, half empty scenario, I am happy that the judge did lose that game, would have loved to see him win.
If the Jaguars win, they don't, but they can't believe they lost to the Texans, 27 25 if they would have beat the Texans.
Thank you for the tip.
If they would have beat the Texans, then I've been totally fine with the Jets winning the game, right? They weren't able Thio.
So as until the Jaguars get that second win, then I'm not comfortable with the Jets winning for the draft.
Sick, right? Um, just looking at the Russian game, Frank Gore played well.
12 carries for 46 yards wasn't, you know, Prime Frank Gore, but still very productive day.
Um, you know, other running backs had a total of six carries.
First, Yeah, six carries for 19 yards.
P Ryan with Michael P.
Ryan didn't do much do too much, but really, was Flacco playing so well able to spread the ball around a shot? Perry. Men.
You had five catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns and Denzel Mimes.
He was able to have four catches for 62 yards.
Okay, um, minds have played a big impact since his injury since returning from injury, and it's really seen it, I believe.
What is this? His 3rd, 2nd or third game now? And he's a rookie and I can't wait to see him develop.
Hopefully, we keep him.
Is the Jets two of the history of us just trading away our best players looking at this season, right? I talked about Jacoby Meyers and get a partner in crime to mere bearer Amir Bird.
Excuse me Combined, they had 17 catches for 234 yards, and the Jets just couldn't seem to figure him out.
It really was just Jacoby Meyers torching our defense time and time after again time and time again, as the Jets could not stand in, their cornerbacks could not appear to see her could not stand in their garden, and Cam was able to make those throws when he need to make him.
No turnovers for came or the Patriots, which was huge from, um, finally talking about the Jets thing.
And you guys can type questions if you want to, because this is just a little outlook.
I'm love to answer questions next, but I'll finish up with the Jets looking at this.
Okay, when will the Jets get their first win? This season? They do play the charges.
And, uh, yeah, no, Excuse me, They don't play the Chargers next.
The Chargers are the only team under 500 that they play right.
And if we don't get a win against the Chargers, then we don't play another team with a losing record until week 17, when we play the Patriots again, Okay? Granted, I imagine Can would still play if they're in the playoffs or not, unless they decide to start Jared Stidham.
But I see that I want to use that one year contract of Cam all the way up through the entire season.
Um, so if we lose to the charges, there's a real possibility of us falling toe one 16.
No wins on the season.
And if that happens, obviously would get the number one pick.
But it would be embarrassment is, I believe there's only four other teams that have not won a game in NFL history almost recently, the 2017 Cleveland Browns.
We're just talking about that today.
Sean Kaiser was the quarterback for the Browns at that point.
The quarterback from Notre Dame.
And that was the year that led them into drafting Baker. Mayfield.
They just drafted Myles Garrett.
Excuse me? Actually, Myles Garrett is from right around where I live here in Arlington.
So that's pretty cool.
But, uh, yeah, this was the year that led them to having the number one pick and drafting Baker.
Yeah, um, any questions from anyone out there? Any sports, uh, football questions.
If the Jets don't get first pick and Trevor Lawrence a crucial y'all go for if we don't get the first pick.
Um, so I'm saying Trevor Lawrence is Obviously, Trevor Lawrence is off the board.
Quarterback wise, I have become a Justin Fields fan.
I was watching a little bit of the Ohio State, I believe, Penn State game, and they talked about how he went.
Was it? He went vegan.
It might have been Justin Fields went vegan.
So, quarterback wise, I think Justin Fields, actually, maybe the second best quarterback in the in college right now.
Or just, you know, in the draft, coming up.
Eso quarterback wise, I'd love to go.
If we do miss out on Trevor Lawrence for me, it's Trevor Lawrence hit or myth that, you know, we're all in on Trevor Lawrence at this point.
Um, I'm really thinking he might be the savior to the Jets organization.
Obviously, that's a lot of pressure on him.
And if you look at his stats, Lawrence has not played the greatest right.
But still, I would imagine, Um, I really like how his game could potentially translate, but obviously, other than that quarterback wise, I'm going with Justin Fields, other out of the quarterback position.
I would love for us to build our old line as much as I I can't stand when teams take offensive alignment like early in the draft.
Top 10 picks Jessica's.
There's a fan, you know, watching the draft.
It's boring, but we would need to draft offensive lineman.
We really drafted a stud and Makai Beckton, uh, this year and he's been injured.
He actually got injured.
That last game had to come out the game early in the game.
But I love for us to draft another young, you know, rookie offensive lineman.
I don't know off the top of my head who the best offensive linemen are right now in college.
But I'd love for an offensive lineman to be picked by the Jets earlier in the draft.
Oh, I did have someone asked me this question earlier when I was, like promoting this and what was it? The question was, is Michael Thomas over hated? Yeah, over Hated.
Um, so if you haven't been following the Saints and kind of they picked it up first, they started off.
Really not know.
I was about to say, really strong.
Really weak is the Saints.
Where are Super Super Bowl contender really have a potential potential toe win that division the NFC South right Michael Thomas has gotten.
He was injured to start the year, right? He missed a couple of games.
Then he missed a game for a belief, punching his teammate and get the team inside suspended on.
I believe he's back.
I think he's still battling like and maybe a potential lower Angkor slight ankle injury.
Um, but is he over? Hated bias wise? I'm saying yes, because I'm saying this because ah, couple years ago actually had Michael Thomas on What is it fantasy, right? Oh, my goodness.
Michael Thomas is a beast.
If right now I have him as, oh, maybe I'll give him this real quick I have.
Michael Thomas is a top receiver in the NFL.
You know, this year obviously has proven a little shaky just because he hasn't been on the field that much, but just go all the way to say is he hated.
Um, granted, some people are dislike him, but I don't I don't I would say he is a little over hated being biased, but taking that bias away and just looking at it, you know it.
You know he's a player, you know, I'm a fan.
Obviously, I'd say no, he's not over hated.
Because if you punch your teammate like what do you What are you doing? E like I don't know what to say about that one.
Um, if you play sports, you gotta really, you know, just like your teammate to just go ahead and punch him, Kyung, right? That's it. That's your teammate.
That's, you know, your brother s So that's a reason.
And he's kind of made these twitter, you know, sub tweets before.
And so, no, I don't think he's over hated.
And since he kind of does it to himself, But as a fan of Michael Thomas Yeah, he's over hated.
But just overall, no, it does some things that you know kind of deserve.
You know, some people to dislike him or question who's looking better is the number one receiver tongue early in the next five years.
This is a good one.
Um, there's some variables going into this question because if you look at it, what is Breezes E.
I believe this is breezes last year, or if not second to last year.
So Michael Thomas is going to have a new quarterback right in the next two years granted ST Potentially, maybe not two years.
But in the next five years, I imagine Calvin Ridley, we'll have a new quarterback.
I'm not completely sure on Matt Ryan's age at the moment at the moment, that's not something I just have off the top of my dome off the top of the dome.
Right? But uh huh, as a number one receiver, I think I have to go.
It was looking betters.
I love Michael Thomas is Michael Thomas is hands pause, right? He just catches everything that comes to him.
There was ridiculous stats last season about like he went like so many games without a drop.
So hey, catches everything.
But Calvin Ridley, his route running is amazing.
The break he has on routes, the footwork, He has the speed.
And obviously you can catch the ball in a high rate.
Right? Um, you have to wonder in Atlanta when Julio would be, you know, out of their out of the city, you know, out of the, you know, traded potentially free agent signs.
You know, signing somewhere else.
Um, let's see. Okay.
For the next five years, I'm going I think I might go.
Calvin Ridley granted.
If Julio is gone, I do think, uh, Calvin Ridley will be the better Wipe.
Your better option is number one and five years.
Just because Michael Thomas is gonna go grow older, speed won't be entirely there.
And he'll have to adjust with a new quarterback or just go to a new team in general.
Um, where do you think Westbrook's gonna be traded? Okay, Um all right, so this goes in perfectly with just being empire sports talk.
You know, I'm a Knicks fan.
You guys will learn that with the time coming.
You know, just right now we're talking about jets, but I'm a Knicks fan.
Sadly, sadly, on the Knicks fan, we have the eighth pick in the draft, right? And where do I think Westbrook is going to be traded? Like I don't want to do this to myself? Because I did it with Zion.
It was saying we would then get Anthony Davis.
Um, what was the big thrill sayings I on a D? Oh, my goodness.
I was saying we were going to get before the draft last year saying our Big Three was gonna be Kyrie, Katie and then Anthony Davis because we're going to trade the number one pick to go get Anthony Davis.
You know, obviously didn't work out as we didn't get any four of those, including the number one pick.
But I'd love to see Westbrook and the Garden.
I mean, well, I think he's gonna be trading right now.
It's trending towards the Charlotte Hornets, where Westbrook's gonna be where the Westbrook with land.
But I've heard talks, you know, potential of how, going to the Knicks of her potential talks about James Harden going to the next.
If James Harden's going anywhere, I believe it probably would be Philly.
Um, right, I heard for Westbrook, though answering the question.
I've heard Charlotte in Chicago, which is surprised makers in the quick Tex episode.
Let's see, Tuesday And then last Tuesday, we talked about the draft, and we also talked about the draft next Tuesday and another quick takes episode.
Um, um, excuse me for that.
Um, what was I saying? Well, Chicago in Charlotte, right? So Charlotte has a really good point guard in end of want Graham, and I'll get to the Raiders. Question.
Charlotte has a great point guard coming up in Devante Graham.
Okay, he if you look at the stats, he really should have one.
Actually, most improved player Brandon Ingram was great, right? I love Brandon Ingram game.
He was able to develop when he came over from the Lakers to the pelicans, but by sheer just improvement in numbers wise Devante Graham Granny, he did get a lot more minutes, so he had more time to prove himself.
But he played absolutely out of his mind, right? Um, along with a signed Terry Rozier, which was not a good signing, they overreacted to his postseason.
He had without Kyrie.
You know, What was that? 2018, you know, and didn't play that even great in 2019.
But still, Michael Jordan, as the owner, gave him a huge contract.
Okay, so that one really doesn't make sense to me.
But Michael Jordan, that's a Jordan brand.
Ambassador Westbrook is so that could be a connection.
And just wanting to sell tickets and then Chicago.
I don't like it because they just drafted Kobe white and Kobe whites are high, intense, you know, player.
So I wanna see why Kobe White has to have the ball in his hand.
He's not going over to shooting guard.
And with Westbrook, you're given Westbrook the ball.
You're not letting you know Kobe White take and say, Hey, Russ, you be the shooting guard.
Russ. What? Russell Westbrook.
Wherever it goes, we'll have the ball in his hands on.
I think that will just stunt the growth of Kobe White.
Eso either Chicago or Charlotte is what it's looking like.
I think the Knicks air putting, putting a package right now.
It's saving the franchise.
I wish I could even believe what I'm saying, but I can't.
Um Well, Sally, get in the next later on, but all right.
Do you think Rita's Yeah.
I can't even answer this completely straight.
Um, if you don't know the joke here is, um my friend Reed is He just signed the Air Force Academy.
It is an academy Air Force College.
Right to play basketball there.
Congrats to him.
He obviously is in the chat.
Read is 31 eso he just signed yesterday His national letter of intent.
So, you know, huge day for him.
You know, next four years that so make sure you turn your turn ESPN e but ESPN on toe watch him, But yes, I think I'll do fine, Ethan.
Uh, let's see any more questions? Um, we'll talk obviously by week.
So slow week for the Jets research, You know, not much.
Patriots game was just a disappointment.
Overall, I thought we had it, but obviously we didn't.
Upcoming game is actually the charges.
I was right. I don't know why I corrected myself.
We do play the chargers, and they're the only team under 500 with a losing record. Right.
Um, let's see, this isn't fair sports talk.
So anything nets or mixed related? I don't believe so.
Oh, how do you think? Okay.
Came and clutch for two questions.
How do you think I'll answer even, um, anything charges? Um, how do I think they're doing without German champs? Okay.
We talked about the Desmond King trade.
What was a couple weeks ago? Actually, I believe I couldn't I didn't like to trade it all.
He actually in Tennessee the other night.
Just had first game in Tennessee.
Had a fumble recovery for a touchdown, right? Um, while they've been in games in it, the Chargers have found ways.
Excuse me, Lose games.
It's not because, like their defensive playing so well, you know, there bailing out the offense and find no the offense.
It's been playing absolutely out of his mind.
He's made it a real race between him and Joe Burrow is offensive rookie of the year.
And with that I mean, um, the charges of bending games because of Justin Herbert, not because their defense has been playing well, right? Derwin James is a top three.
Safety and league.
Um, granted, What is? Yeah, I put Jamal Adams is personally, I'm a huge Jamal Adams fans.
So I'm having Jamal Adams, number one.
You obviously know he is not a part of the Jets anymore, so but I still prove for him.
I loved him all Adams.
Um, but without German James, they've kind of been exposed.
And then they just traded their best corner all pro corner Desmond King away.
A couple of, uh, a week or two ago, so I don't think they've been doing well at all.
They're giving up 30 plus points every time I look at their game score and they're just finding ways to lose s Oh, I don't think they have been playing well at all, Grant.
You can find some areas, maybe, but secondary wise, they're getting they're gonna be and it hurts without having a safety over the top for the Rockets were trade, um, Western for bread.
So that's and Westbrook to Detroit.
Uh, I don't like that because and what? I have to preface this by saying, What are the Rockets strategy going? What's the Rockets strategy actually gonna be right? Are they still going to be this team that only shoots threes and layups? Because Daryl Morey, the founder of that philosophy, right, is gone.
Mike D'Antoni is gone.
It's a new It's a new head coach.
Eso We're gonna have to see, you know, if they do play that same way.
No, I don't want Blake Griffin traded to the Rockets.
If they do play three in lay ups, Blake Griffin isn't a great three point shooter.
I don't know why you're gonna just keep him on the perimeter.
Um, eso we'll see.
Oh, I'm totally I'm working on the opposite of that.
Um, no, no, You know what? No, I don't like to trade it all.
I don't like to trade for Houston in that regard.
If they're going to keep James Harden, I don't like him pairing with Blake Griffin.
Blake Griffin has tried to morph his game and, um or, like, more modern, a more modern game, You say? I don't believe it's really worked out well for him.
He's playing in Detroit, so you don't know all the great things Blake Griffin's doing.
You know any, you know.
You don't look and see.
How did the pistons make out last night? You just don't do that.
Right? But just for all all two sides, I don't think the games I don't think that trade would work that well.
Um, yeah, eso The MBA has decided on a start date, and that's December 22nd.
Um, you guys know as my first one of my first streams was talking about the n b A finals.
You know how I feel about the Lakers and LeBron a za Knicks fan.
I have to root for someone else.
I can't just be sad the entire season, so I do root for LeBron LeBron's my favorite player of all time.
We did the Jordan LeBron go discussion streams ago, right? And you know who said I took eso starting December 22nd? I think it's unfair Thio Not just LeBron and Lakers, but really any team that went to the bubble that committed all that time there, Um, like, what was it? I believe both the Miami Heat and Lakers off season will be 77 days or 73 days while the other people other teams that didn't even go to the bubble 280 something days, right? Somewhere around there, so totally in favor for more rest with the teams that didn't make the bubble.
Obviously, the response is gonna be well, they had, you know, months off in between, you know? So it was just 100 days they played well.
You're playing every day practicing every day at that high playoffs.
High level, high intensity.
I would have liked him to push the start date back a little bit for revenue revenue reasons.
Um, hopefully I hope that players like like LeBron don't like, Sit out because I believe I heard a leak or something.
That Warriors Lakers is the potential Christmas Day game and I want to see that game.
I'd like to see LeBron and the Lakers play against Stephon.
The Warriors, you know, both fully healthy, but looking away from just how tiring it's gonna be, free agency is gonna be like this.
The draft is next week.
And then, you know that gives you what? That dress on the 18th that gives you what about a month for free agency And the Lakers really have to Ricans.
I'm using the Lakers is a prime example here, you know, Obviously this applies to other teams as well, but the Lakers need to rebuild the roster If they think they can contend for a championship, well, they'll content.
Will win a championship with what they had on the court for, you know, another year against.
You know, the warriors coming up as much as I don't want to admit it, the words you're gonna be scary.
The Brooklyn Nets with Kyrie, Arcadian Kyrie They can't just get one draft pick and think, OK, we've turned our seat.
We've turned our roster around.
No, they really have to re hall.
And with this short turnaround, I don't know how Poulenc, Rob Pelinka The GM is really gonna get that done.
So as a fan, I love it.
I love watching the MBA, but, you know, from the player's perspective and like the business side of it, it it might.
It looks like it's gonna be too soon.
Um, that's really that's so empire support stocks.
So, yeah, you can all see the background.
Uh, that's you know what is that? The Carrier Dome right there.
Uh, that's where I've applied to college.
Both my parents went there, you know, in the Empire State.
So we'll talk about Syracuse.
Right? Um, when college basketball season starts, we're two weeks away from that which I can't wait.
Do your Excuse me, dear New York decommitted from cues That one hurt.
Granted, I wasn't surprised.
I don't even think, do or will go to college.
I I imagine he'll go gp Or if he can just go straight to the MBA.
But when I got the notification.
I wasn't like you're joking me right now.
Two c D or D commit was like, Well, did you expect it? What? What can you say? Right.
Um uh, he's been at least 156 different high schools.
And he's a junior.
He obviously he started.
Earlier this year, Trance heard is heard is what hurt his ankle transferred back to California.
He just left California to Goto.
Kill went back to California, you know, decommitted.
So he's obviously had I don't want to say, like, commitment issues, but he has not stayed at a place for you no longer than a season.
Um, I didn't expect him to be a Syracuse for two years.
He was a one and done players.
He made it known, and they Syracuse News reporter asked, were interviewing him.
He's, like, normal.
One had done player, and they asked him, Well, what if you can go straight to the N B A? He goes, we'll have to explore my options.
So he wasn't that committed into Syracuse.
Um, and I loved yours.
A player I've seen.
Have I seen him play? No, no, I haven't seen too or played live.
But I'd watch all this highlights because, you know, I'm a big fan of your You're right.
You're did not wanna have to fight for his position with me.
You know, that could have been one of the scariest backcourts in college basketball history.
What do you or didn't want? You know, he didn't want this.
Hey, don't want to smoke with May.
He didn't want to fight for that point guard position.
So that's why he decommitted.
But back to, you know, actually, back to reality.
Actually, um, I don't see d or going a little fun.
Do your do your new.
You know, I was not making mistakes at the point guard position.
He knew he couldn't beat me, you know? So beat me out it for that.
But the only reason was rendered, the only reason that we even had a chance in him was because he grew up and was born in New York.
So it was even a blessing.
Because if you want, if you're a Syracuse fan, you know, we don't get to five stars like that.
We don't get top players like that, so yeah, as sad as it was It wasn't much of a surprise to see d d r decommitted.
Uh, I got to say when you committed, I was exactly I know I remember exactly where I was When you thio commit, I mean, excuse me.
Committed was about to start a basketball game, actually, but yeah, seeing them Deek? Deek um, it not, you know, devastating.
Because, sadly, that's what I sort expected.
Do you think Michael Williams is overrated? What is Mike? Is Mike Williams 14 or 15? I can't remember.
Um, but, uh, so I think it's cooperate.
Oh, he just transferred.
Um, actually, the North Carolina school that that's where he is this year.
I didn't even realize you 16.
Oh, I thought he was much better for being like a 15 year old.
Um, but being 16 still, Michael Holmes is really good.
I'm not going to go overrated because he, you know, I don't know.
We'll see this year.
I'll give you my input.
Um, I'd say after the school season, because who he was playing with e just said he, you know, transferred North Carolina.
He was in California UM, who is playing in California.
His competition was not very high.
He was dropping what he to drop 77.
Obviously, that's great and all, but his competition and get in California was not great.
And he transferred over Thio, not a real powerhouse.
I was surprised by that where he transferred Bishop Forum.
I might be confusing his school with another school, but they're not a real powerhouse over there, so we'll see competition wise.
I think he was a little overrated, like the way he gets his exposure from, like Slam and over time.
But player wise, I think he he's on pace to be a really good player.
Um, I don't know if I put him up as like one of the top players in the car.
This is actually a good question.
I'll have to see because they started playing because I saw he played his first game and they lost.
It was a close game against another really stacked team.
I'll have to give you my opinion after this year because it's finally when he's playing real competition and a U is he played with content, magic, any plates he played his age. He didn't play up.
I don't think so.
I'm going to see how he plays this season.
And his What is he, a sop****re Junior.
You know, I'll see how he plays in this school ball, and I think I'll make it there.
But exposure wise, I do think he is a little overrated, but other than that, I don't think so.
Back to the Jets.
Do you think Just tryingto degree.
I never want to.
Just this going back to the Jets and everything.
And there, Monday night game Monday night debacle against New England.
I'd never want to think that, you know, a professional team is going to say, You know what? We're gonna lose this game on purpose, right? But you can make a case that the Jets absolutely try to lose that game on purpose, which I don't want to think, but there's a real possibility.
Uh, you know, I've noted the 12 men on the field, the interception that Joe Flacco threw the just awful I Q.
The Q one of not of downing him.
I'm not going to say that was, you know, losing on purpose like Oh, down him down.
But there is a chance that, you know, gays just told Joe Flacco.
You know what? On this play, you're throwing the deep ball, no matter what.
Because I mentioned earlier he had two guys crossing over the middle of the field wide open and he had been dealing.
I don't know why he didn't He wouldn't pass to them.
Oh, so I would never like to, you know, just go like, yeah, I'm going to say the Jets lost it on purpose.
But there's a chance that management was like, guys, remember, Jacksonville lost.
I mean, yeah, Jacksonville lost this week.
If we win this game, there's a chance were tied with Jacksonville with, you know, one win.
They obviously get the tiebreaker.
You know, we need this number one draft pick, because if not, then our whole season was a failure.
If we don't get Trevor Lawrence so for to some degree there, I think maybe, I think, yeah, Gates might have told Joe Flacco you're throwing the deep ball on this, no matter what.
Um, the 12 men on the field as much of that is like, Oh, that's an easy way toe you know, lose on purpose.
I don't think so.
I think maybe there's some confusion, but it was really idiotic play by the Jets and that good? It's not, you know, actually, could be I'm trying to lose.
But personally, I would like to think No, they weren't trying to lose on purpose.
That's the jets for you.
They got you thinking.
Just as a fan, I would really kind of irked me if any professional team was like, go out there and lose on purpose, because what's the point of playing? I mean, what is the point of playing at that point if you're just going to go out there and not compete and not play? Oh, well, Russell Wilson, win the M v. P.
So for weeks I've been saying yes, I've been saying yes.
Russell Wilson is gonna win the M V.
I've had him as my number one leader, you know, is being in the M V P race.
But he did not play great against Buffalo last week.
And obviously you can have you can have a bad game. We all have.
You know, we all have bad games.
You know, I'm a high school.
I've had bad games.
Professionals have bad games.
What he has turned the ball over, I believe, five times in the last three games, which is really uncharacteristic of Russell Wilson.
You really manage the manages the ball, usually well, And so just seeing that has been a cause for concern.
Not that they lost a game.
If you lose a game and, you know, get the throne for the M V P that you guys must have, you know, something must've been wrong.
But the way he's been playing has not been up to par with Russell Wilson's own standards.
So I still think I think I'll turn it around.
I don't think there's much cause for concern on the offensive side.
Offensive side of the ball for Seattle.
Russell Wilson would be fine, um, defense defensively.
They have to figure that out because defensively is what is the problem there in Seattle.
And they need to figure that out, you know, so they can alleviate some of the pressure for Russell Wilson, you know, So he doesn't have to make those hard throws that get picked off potentially, uh, question about a former M V P.
Do you think Cam Newton will ever be back to the level we used to play it with Carolina? I gotta say, 2015 came new with Panthers.
That might be one of my favorite football players.
Toe watch, like of all time.
That was back when you know Cam was dabbing on everybody, you know. He was doing the dad.
He was That was the year him, you know, the the GIF of him, like with the towel over shoulder, you know, chewing his gum when he came back against what's his name? Odell.
On the Giants that you're Josh Norman and then went back and forth, right? Um, so no short answer.
No, I don't think he'll ever get back to that.
I think he's at shoulder injuries.
He's just he's gotten What is he? He hasn't gotten Pepper.
He's gotten, got leaner, and I don't believe there's just gonna be an offense offense like game playing dictated around.
Okay, this is how we have Cam Newton as a player.
And this this is how we're gonna do it for us to win.
They're not gonna Offenses aren't building around Cam Newton anymore.
He's just, you know, you're plugging them in like the Patriots they're trying to, but they're not really creating an offense just for Cam Newton alone.
Okay? Eso short answer.
No, I don't think you'll ever get back to that play with Carolina, which saddens me, because MVP can.
In 2015, when he led the Panthers to the Super Bowl, that was one of my favorite players. Toe watch.
I was always a Cam Newton fans just how big he was. Pause.
How how good He ran the ball.
He was just a great player, and it's sad to see just his demise.
His decline has been so sad to watch.
And I told you earlier in the stream I was rooting for Cam, even as a patriot.
You know, I'm a Jets fan.
I can't stand the Patriots.
I don't stand the Patriots since I've been born, you know, been born, been a Jets fan, but I was rooting for Cam and he Sadly, we saw the first game.
We really didn't throw the ball well, we didn't realize that would be you know how it was gonna be for the entire season.
But that really was a preview for the entire season.
And I don't think you'll ever get back to being ableto sling it down the field.
I'd say, you know, just be how it was.
I got two questions.
I if anyone has any more questions, type of men.
So get those in, wrap it up.
You starting that.
Okay, um, the first one, right.
I got four nice questions.
And on these four, um, Coulter titans tonight.
Um, as good as the Colts defense is, I like the colds defense, right? Philip Rivers? I'm not a fan.
All. I haven't been a fan of Philip Rivers.
Even in San Diego.
Get San Diego Chargers days now.
L a Chargers s I'm going Titans.
This one, I think times have to really come back.
Make a quick Ron.
They lost two games in a row, you know, slid back And like, the power rankings for best teams.
So I'm going, I'm going.
Titans get the win tonight.
I think Derrick Henry again, we'll have a monster game and Tannehill will play better than he has been playing.
Uh, what made me a Jets fan? Um, so I was picking, you know, When you get to a certain age and you're watching games and everything, you start picking your favorite team.
Like, for instance, I became a LeBron fan ironically, because he was playing the Mavericks in the finals and what was a 2011 and I watched, you know, obviously, I was happy.
I wasn't, you know, fan of anyone, really.
You know, home, team.
My home team won, and, you know, I saw every I was happy and Oh, yeah, I was part of the home team winning a championship.
But I saw how much people hated LeBron, and it was like, I don't I don't really like them.
I'm gonna root for this guy.
Obviously, I didn't know all the, you know, conspired with the decision and everything, but I wanted to root for LeBron.
I felt bad for, you know, this is on a tangent, but that's how it became.
You know, when you're young, you pick your you have a reason for why you pick people or pick, you know, teams for jets.
What was it? 2010 2011? They had two years in a row.
They had made back to back a F C championships Um, yeah, 2011, because the Steelers beat them in the A F C Championship toe end up going to the Super Bowl and Dallas actually here in Arlington at Jerry World 18 c Stadium.
But I have been watching, and I always because I was a Yankee fan since birth like that was a team I immediately picked up on, you know, no doubt about it in my house for Yankee fans.
So I always wanted to pick, you know, New York teams to root for.
Well, there was.
There was the Jets New York team winning a F C championship, one game away from the Super Bowl, right? I was like, Oh, nothing could go wrong And then, ever since I've become a fan, they have done absolutely nothing, right? Mark Sanchez, who I thought was amazing, obviously let the Jets toe to back to back a F C championships.
You know, Butt fumble.
We all know that clip drafted Gino Smith point had Tim Tebow is a quarterback, so it's been downhill.
But that's originally what made me a Jets fan.
Watched him go to two straight A F C championships in New York.
You know, pick with all the injuries this year.
Do you think starting that earlier was a mistake? For What was that for Camp starting this early er for MBA.
I'll get back to that one.
Ethan, Which one? What were you really talking about? Um, what's your opinion about the cowboys you guys know here? I live in Arlington.
My opinion about the cowboys.
I can't stand the Cowboys That, uh I've probably people are gonna not like this when I get back to school, but tomorrow, Whatever.
I'm not a huge Cowboys fan at all.
I can't stand the Cowboys.
My dad is a diehard cowboy fan.
He lived in New York, right? Grew up in New York and was a Cowboys fan.
I can't stand on, Can't stand him.
And this year has been so fun to watch. I can't lie.
Obviously not the deck injury.
You hate to see that.
You know, Doc, I really want that to get paid.
Really good guy.
But seeing this it seeing the cowboy fans finally just be quiet because every single year it's Yeah, it's our year.
We're making it to the Super Bowl this year.
Finally, they could just shut up.
And I don't have to hear I don't have to hear the cowboys, right.
Uh, what do I think about them? I mean, they're just not a good football team.
Granted, Um, Gilbert played really well against, um, the Steelers the other week, so I don't know why they started bending Nucci over this dude.
I mean, bending Nucci looked really awful.
Eso it's been fun.
I'll go. I got you.
Um, it's been fun to watch the Cowboys lose as bad as it is to say, but that's my opinion on No, just Okay. Okay.
I got you, Uh, always the original question with all the injuries, do you think? Um, yes.
And just for that reason, you said the players have as long the question was, do I think it was with all the injuries and everything? Do you think starting early was a mistake? And I think you said it perfectly.
Ethan, the players have as long as as much and as long as you know, they usually do to prepare and get in shape for this season, right? Um e I don't think people understand how much an offseason really means to players.
It's huge for you to get your body in shape and get prepared for the upcoming season, especially in football.
The wear and tear your body takes over, of course, of 16 games.
Plus, if you make it to the playoffs, you know you're getting hit every single day and practice and games, you know? So, yeah, looking back, you know, obviously hindsight.
2020 hindsight on.
Yeah, I think the NFL could, you know, the NFL could look back and say we were wrong in the fact that we started early and not give these players this amount of time.
I think they're just trying thio cash in.
It's not really a business.
They want to make sure they get the revenue, but with the amount of injuries on the turf.
And yeah, I do think so.
I mean, you're saying Odell safe, Juan and just the 40 Niners team is the whole, you know, they're all injured.
So I do believe that the NFL probably is looking back like, yeah, this was a bad decision starting this early.
Um um there we go.
I mean, And on that note, that's all.
I have time for tonight's stream um, thank you for everyone coming out.
You know, turning in the chat in the empire sports talk with may.
Oh, but you all have a great weekend.
And I'll be seeing you Tuesday for my quick takes show.
Same time, Same place right here. Live on SportsCastr.
Uh, hopefully all stay safe and everything, and I'll catch you next time.
