t defense Talk home to real Miami Dolphin fans here on victory Monday.
I am here to talk to you all about why the Miami Dolphins defense was better than people think against the Cardinals.
There's been a lot of rumblings throughout the game and after the game that our defense play very poorly in this game and I am here toe, actually debunk that and use the eye tests and a little bit of common sense within it.
First and foremost, we know that the Cardinals put up 31 points, which is not good.
We were the number one, um, scoring defense in the NFL.
I'm coming into this week, allowing the least amount of points against any team in the NFL.
After this game, we dropped from number one to number four, which is still phenomenal.
Okay, Still phenomenal.
And that's with the first two weeks that we had, which is pretty tough.
Now, Um, give it up 30 one points.
Everyone will say, Oh, the defense just in play.
Well, X, y and Z There's a lot to talk about in this game when it comes to defense.
Now I'm going to start this conversation, letting you all know that I wasn't a huge fan on our defensive play calling in this game, Um, but it was enough to get the W.
And that's all that matters.
But we need to break that down a little.
Um, it's pretty obvious what Miami Dolphins air trying to do with this schematic football.
We believe that we have two of the best cornerbacks in the NFL that can lock down any two great receivers in this NFL.
When I say lock down, pretty much lock down, no one's perfect.
You know, players, they're going to get beat.
But you you make life tough for him on any given Sunday, and that's in Byron Jones and Eggs Avian Howard.
Okay, now, first and foremost, we have to put some context behind that.
In order for your guys to be locked down, you have to have a scheme that's conducive to putting pressure on the quarterback as soon as you can to force quick throws, quick throws or throws that do not take longer than 3 to 4 seconds to develop.
So if our guys we're gonna be playing bump and run, it is impossible for you to allow another quarterback 4567 seconds to sit in the pocket without being even pressured, um, to throw the ball.
So what happened yesterday in a lot of cases is Miami went into their classic defense.
That that just sucks.
Um, and that is playing zone.
We are not a good zone team.
Every single time we play zone, there is a completion against us.
For the life of me, I still don't understand why we do it now.
There are times that we will run zone to give our players a little bit of rest.
You don't wanna wear them out chasing guys all over the field.
You want him to sway in their area just to give them a little rest.
And you gotta be a great coach to call that perfectly and give them the rest necessary.
But we started this game in zone, and then when we would go into man to man, we would give cushion.
And when this game first started, the Arizona Cardinals couldn't find anything deep.
Kyler Murray would drop back to pass.
They called a lot of deep routes.
Nothing was there.
He had to scramble out and use his feet they were making some coverage plays.
But Kyler Murray, being who he is, was able to escape on a lot of those.
But those go unnoticed when Kyler Murray runs for 30 yards.
We don't give credit to the fact that the secondary did a heck of a job making sure he had no one to throw. Two.
That's number one, um, number two.
We run a scheme that on many occasions we run a zero, which means we're gonna man a man across the board and send everybody else, which should allow one free rusher to the quarterback on every play.
This game was totally different from last week, this game, for for at least half of the game, we gave the illusion that we would send the House and backed out every time.
So when you have cornerbacks that are elite that are playing bump and run or even giving a little cushion 5 to 7 yards on plays where you put everybody at the line of scrimmage, you're expecting those guys to make that quarterback get rid of the ball in less than three seconds.
But that's not what happened for a large part of this game, What happened was when Colin Murray hike the ball.
You saw three defenders dropped back on what looks like it was gonna be a seven man rush.
You saw three defenders drop out of there and there was a four man rush.
And every time there was a four man rush, you can count on your Mississippi's one.
Mississippi to Mississippi.
Three. Mississippi, four.
Mississippi, five, Mississippi.
Then Kala Marie makes a decision to throw the ball.
You're giving five seconds in this league, no corner.
You can rely to just cover across the board for mawr than 4 to 5 seconds on so many plays.
It's just not fair.
You gotta get the ball out of the quarterbacks hand quick, and that is where our corners strengths are.
Good eggs Avian.
Howard can guard you in the 1st 15 yards like no other and take chances to get interceptions.
You ain't doing nothing in the 1st 15 yards unless you want a quick comeback route for 345 yards.
That's about it.
But outside of that, you're not gonna do anything.
So when you look at the stats, what did they say we need? Oh, my Gosh, it brings me back now.
What did they say that we need to worry about with Arizona's offense? You gotta worry about Colin Murray, of course.
But who was the one guy that they say it is impossible to stop him.
They told me on the FCS Roundtable.
This guy just said that they're going to shut down this person.
This guy is delusional.
That's what they told me.
And who is that guy? Ladies and gentlemen, Nuke de Hop.
They said that we could not stop d hop.
I love what the Miami Dolphins did against D Hop.
Avian Howard nor Byron Jones guarded d hop.
They both guarded him all day.
The game started out very first play when Colin Murray looked to the right, Byron Jones was guarding him.
The next play, Eggs Avian.
Howard was guarding him, and I'm watching the chess match throughout the whole game.
They just kept switching up the look on D hop.
They kept switching it up.
X would guard them a little.
Then eggs avian Howard regard him a little, and they would switch up on him and Larry Fitzgerald.
They just kept on swapping them in and out I was because when the game started, I said, Oh, Byron Jones gonna be Garden D hop.
The very first play, Byron Jones is on them from Eggs Avian.
Howard's on Larry Fitzgerald.
This is your matchup today, but that's not what it end up being.
They kept switching back and forth and what happened to D Hop de hop on.
Lee had three catches in the entire game for 30 yards, three catches for 30 yards.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is what you call shutting down a new elite receiver.
He could have had three catches for 60 yards, and that is what you would have called shutting down another leader receiver.
But he only had three catches for 30 yards.
He got shut down.
Not only did he get shut down, but if he's referees weren't robbing the Miami Dolphins calling these weak pass interference calls, it would have looked even worse because some of those pastors should have been intercepted.
Some of them should have been intercepted.
They were calling some of the most ridiculous pass interference calls they were trying.
It got so bad that they were trying to force the ball thio de hop think about it was It was even on that fourth and one when they called that pass interference with Xavier.
How returned his head around, put his arms out to catch the ball and D hop.
Hits him from behind and they call pass interference on X.
And he was in college.
Murray was forcing that ball.
That was just a bad ball to throw.
He just floated it up.
So that is what you call shutting down in elite receiver.
So all those people who were this guy is ridiculous to even suggest that they would stop Diaz three catches 30 yards later.
30 yards later, they crying in the car.
You can't find them.
They're not over here saying, Oh, man, you were right. I was wrong.
No, they're not saying that.
They're in the car crying right now.
How is it possible? Yeah, he got shut down and and and then somebody put a comment before the game and said, It is totally disrespectful that everybody keeps talking about D hop when Larry Fitzgerald, the old G, is probably gonna be the one with over 100 yards and a touchdown or two.
Larry Fitzgerald four catches 54 yards sat him down to sound, too.
So D Hop and Larry Fish Gerald combined for seven catches and 74 yards, seven catches in 74 yards.
Even if D Hop has seven catches in 74 yards that shut down, you've been shut down to be D hop.
So no people need because.
And another thing, people need to slow down saying things about this defense.
Oh, this defense, then, is playing bad.
No, we took the guys that we wanted to take out of this game and force you to beat us with other guy, other guys.
And if you did, you did.
Other guys made play.
You gotta look at that now let's go, Thio, Christian, Kurt.
He's the receiver that had five receptions, 423 yards and a touchdown.
That was the one where Byron Jones got beat.
But let's talk about that play because if you take away that 1 60 yard bomb, we got another guy with four receptions and 60 something yards.
But I don't live in their life.
I don't say if you would have did this, that would have happened.
He had a good game But that's what that's what the game plan is.
Let everybody else do it.
Just don't let d hopping Fitzgerald do it.
Everybody else can go off, but long as those two don't go off now.
Kirk, I mean, Christian Kirk on that play, another play where we put seven minute the line of scrimmage sticks.
Don't forget that everybody was playing the first down marker at the 10 yard line, and it was bad coaching on that by the Dolphins.
It was a bad play call.
You got seven men on the line of scrimmage on a play that they gotta execute on.
We're playing that were literally playing the first down marker.
They five receivers wide.
Everybody got a man and Byron Jones got his man on the outside, but he's 12 yards off.
We look like we're about to send seven, which means Colin Murray is going to either have to get rid of this ball in two seconds because there's one guy that's going to come unblock or if he doesn't send a guy.
If he doesn't get rid of the ball into two seconds, Um, he's gonna either run and try to go for the first down himself, but there is no room for a deep ball when you send the blitz.
And what did they do when the ball was hiked? Every receiver, when when they got to the five yard line, Not a single d be backed up.
Why? Because they were playing the sticks.
But the problem is the Miami Dolphins didn't send the house.
We back three guys out in coverage and Kyler Murray sat back there for five seconds and you got a receiver running full speed and Baron Jones waiting at the first down marker.
And as soon as he realized that we ain't got no pressure on him, I gotta go chase him deep.
It was too late.
It was too late.
At that point, Callum Murray floated the ball up deep.
It was too late.
You were gonna get burned.
If you would have sent the pressure, it would have never happened because he would have had to get rid of the ball early.
And that's what gets me when we literally put guys at the sticks.
We need to send at least one extra guy.
You cannot sit there and do plays like that and give Colin Murray four or five seconds to throw the ball.
That's not smart, and that is the one deep ball that they got in the entire game.
The only deep bowl.
People don't understand that, either.
That was the deep when that went to the house for the touchdown.
Now let's stay on this defense.
Oh, the run defense.
They gave up literally 178 yards on the ground.
178 yards on the ground is not good.
But let's back up, y'all.
The traditional run game Chase Edmunds run ran the ball 25 times for 70 yards.
We held him the 2.
8 yards a carry.
Anything under 3.
3 yards and my eyes is a win.
We did what we were supposed to do in the run game.
The Onley rushes the collar.
Murray had 106 yards, and that was because he used his legs and escape some really tough situations.
And that comes with the territory that comes with the territory.
There were guys all in the backfield ready to tackle him, and he just put them jets on and shook him and went out for 20 yards, 30 yards, 26 yards, 19 yards.
He ran the ball 11 times, an average 9.
6 yards of carry.
6 yards per carry.
So we did our job in the run defense we didn't do.
Our job is well in the quarterback contained defense.
That's a whole different standpoint.
The Miami Dolphins came into this game with on defense with four points.
Number one No D hop number two No Fitzgerald number three.
Don't let them run the ball.
Number four contained Colin Murray.
We passed the test on three out of four.
The only one that we failed was the containing Kyler Murray.
If you look at the way we played this game in our game plan, the Onley facet of the game on defense that we did not execute was containing Kyler Murray.
Thea other three.
We won the battle.
Now somebody said that d was far from locked down yesterday.
The d Overall, I agree it wasn't locked down yesterday, but when we talk about our game plan No, no, um d hop.
Don't allow them to run the ball or We locked him down.
De hop didn't do no.
He couldn't even get in the rhythm.
He was out there getting frustrated.
You didn't see it.
Fitzgerald was non existent almost in their run game.
They barely made good runs.
They didn't do anything on us in the run game, in the trenches.
The only facet that we that we really hurt was containing the mobile quarterback.
That's something we still have yet to be able to prove.
We still have yet to be able to prove that facet of the game containing the mobile quarterback next week isn't gonna be easy, either.
And that's why it's gonna be interesting.
The Herbert effect.
I believe we could get to Herbert, and he's not gonna be as elusive as Kyler Murray, and that's why I feel like we have a the best chance to win that game.
But it's not gonna be easy.
It just depends on what defense of scheme are.
Are our coaches want to run? Herbert is the type of guy you need to bring the pressure, but will we? Will we bring the pressure? That's what's important.
All right, Um, but outside of that, listen, this defense played a good game and shout out to Emanuel odd bod.
Do you know that he has seven sacks on the season? Halfway through the season, he has seven.
He's on pace for 14.
He's gotten a second every single game, I believe, except Week one.
If I'm not mistaking, I believe he's gotten a second almost every game except week one.
So it'll be really interesting guys, Um, but I like what our defense did.
I just think that we need to put our secondary in a better situation.
Like think about the Rams game.
We never had to worry about them beating us deep because we put so much pressure on him that he never even had time to throw deep.
He never had time to throw deep this game.
We gave Colin Murray plenty of time to throw deep guys.
We gave him too much time to throw deep and it's unfair to the secondary and it makes the secondary look bad in our own fans.
Oh, these secondary.
They're looking bad, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Those guys played there, but off yesterday Byron Jones, Xavier Howard, they played there, but off yesterday.
I'm not even knocking that Saving Howard with all them pass interference.
He was not technically sound.
He could have been better on.
But listen, he was there with his man.
Colin Murray never even threw the ball because it just wasn't open.
Did you notice that collar? Murray didn't have many completions to where they got batted down or just a raggedy and completion, because Colin Murray is the type of person.
If they're covered, I'm not even throwing it.
If it's a really tight window to squeeze in, I'm not even throwing it.
People don't notice that about callin Murray's game.
That's why he's so efficient.
He was 21 of 26 y'all, 21 of 26 Onley, five incompletions, Onley, five incompletions, 21 of 26 and that that is a testament.
But But I'm willing to bet that he dropped back to pass calamari drop back to pass, probably 40 times.
He dropped back to pass.
It had to be about 40 times because if he took 26 pass attempts and he had 11 rushes because those rushes, um, eight of them were designed to throw the ball three of them were designed quarterback keepers.
You know how they running around the corner with him and see if he could see any lane and go through it.
But, um, yeah, he literally dropped back to pass over 40 times, but he was 21 of 26 so he doesn't throw the ball.
He does not throw the ball if it's not open.
And that's telling y'all for him, the only throw the ball 26 times.
There were times he didn't even want to take a chance because it was guarded.
I'm not one of those individuals that say, Oh, our defense was trash yesterday.
Another impressive thing by our defense.
The the fourth quarter.
They scored zero points.
They scored zero points in the fourth quarter.
So when our defense needed to show up the most, they held Arizona 20 points in the fourth quarter fourth quarter, where you need them the most.
Not to mention you're right, Tim.
The defense is the reason they gave us the early earlier, um, the early arm lead from another coverage sack.
He back there looking, don't where to go.
Bam fumbled the ball touchdown.
They gave us the early lead and they closed.
The game is, well, zero points in the fourth quarter.
It's crazy, man.
So I like what our defense did, guys.
So I'm not with that narrative that our defense sucked yesterday and all this and that this was a team win.
Um, and I want to give to a lot of credit.
He did carry us in moments in this game, spread the ball around evenly.
It wasn't any individual.
Devante Parker came much huge and in multiple parts of this game, I want to make sure he definitely gets his, um, respect.
But he wasn't like this huge big figure.
He got six receptions for 64 yards, pressed him before he got hurt, had four receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown.
So, um, it might just Seki.
Three receptions, 42 yards and grand, four receptions, 35 yards.
So to have spread it around a lot two is spreading it around.
Seven different guys caught a ball, so I like that too would definitely spread it around a lot.
And also, he added a little flare on the ground with seven rushes in 35 yards.
So this was a great team win altogether.
But it's good to see that our quarterback and ADM.
Or than just do his part.
He can carry us a little, and that's what he did a little bit in this game.
So glad to see you in the comments section.

My favorite player on the Dolphins isn't tour.
It's the M v p Jason Sanders, man, he is constantly proven.
Why you need a great kicker.
Arizona knows better than anything, literally.
I thought the kick was in.
It was a line drive right down the middle.
But it was short.
And you let me say this, too.
Even if he would have made that kick, I had the full confidence we would still win the game because if we were still gonna be left with, like, a minute and 40 seconds or something like that, and I think that would have been a tie ballgame, I had confidence we would have went down and, at a minimum, scored a field goal.
So I wasn't worried about that, either.
Eric wrote that.
Dude, man, a lot of guys that that dude but man Jason Sanders is the M v p man people, man, see that brings me back to people talking that craziness.
I remember we drafted Jason Sanders.
They were like, Oh, leave it up to the Dolphins.
Always doing something stupid.
Who drafts a kicker? That's what they said.
Who drafts a kicker? Oh, this team will never get it right.
Jason Sanders is proving and proving why he is worthy of a draft pick.
Why he is worthy off a draft pick.
This guy has been so clutch.
He like he's guaranteed his money.
He's just a great kicker, man.
He's a great kicker, man.
So So Listen, man, I'm glad that we got Jason Sanders.
