00:05:11
Hello. Welcome in everyone.
00:05:14
It is roughly 7. 30.
00:05:17
We're just closing up the afternoon and early morning slate of games and wow, what a what? A day it was a lot of action.
00:05:26
A lot of big quarterback performances.
00:05:30
If you're not watching on SportsCastr and you're listening on full press radio.
00:05:34
I'm here with Brandon Halls.
00:05:35
Check where Our f p c Chiefs managing editor.
00:05:37
If you're watching on SportsCastr, you can clearly see that he is affiliated with the Chiefs.
00:05:45
Um, if you look real quick, it looks like he's just ahead floating in the middle of a red wall.
00:05:50
But it's okay. He is here.
00:05:52
At least his head can speak and we're gonna talk to the football so great.
00:05:56
And, uh, what, what? An afternoon.
00:05:58
I'm not gonna lie having the Patriots on Monday, and, uh, we have bucks and saints coming up tonight.
00:06:04
Today was a great day for some red zone watching for me, So it was a lot of fun today.
00:06:24
Yeah, well, I'm like, that's the thing to it's like a A team like the Steelers right now.
00:06:42
Who everyone is thinking.
00:06:44
Oh, Steelers Cowboys.
00:06:46
Obviously the stair list.
00:06:47
They're gonna win big, you know? But there was there was a time There was a time where Garrett Gilbert was was was was going back to his a f l days a F days.
00:06:58
He's clearly not that old.
00:07:00
Um, and he was looking pretty good out there, and And look, the Cowboys team, I you know, they they've suffered almost as much as the 40 Niners when it comes to injuries.
00:07:10
Obviously, the deck injury being the biggest.
00:07:12
So, uh, there's a lot of, uh, you're not gonna expect much out of him, but, ah, game like now.
00:07:19
And I I saw I don't know where it was last at.
00:07:23
I do know that the cowboys were down.
00:07:24
Three. Still correct.
00:07:45
So yeah. All right.
00:07:46
So you know the game still going on, So hopefully maybe we'll get a photo finish that we can kind of break here, but, you know, one of the biggest upsets of the day, one of the biggest games of the day.
00:07:56
I know if I want to call it upset.
00:07:59
Maybe it is an upset, but it's buffalo beating Seattle.
00:08:03
I talked the last couple weeks coming into this weekend, and I thought, look, uh, Buffaloes kind of taking a step back from that foreign.
00:08:12
I'll start. They kind of come back to Earth.
00:08:14
Josh Allen, um, hadn't been playing as well as, you know, We we had come toe expect him over the last several weeks, but he bawled today, man, I think.
00:08:26
What was it? Three touchdowns.
00:08:29
And I'm not sure if you saw it or not, but this is, uh, coming on the heels of, apparently his His grandmother passed away last night, so Yeah.
00:08:37
Big big performance from Josh.
00:08:38
Yeah, I just thought probably about 15 minutes before we got on there.
00:08:42
So big performance from Josh Allen.
00:08:44
Um, you know, I'm I'm certainly not.
00:08:48
If I was a Buffalo Bills fan, I'm not teetering on the edge right now.
00:08:51
I know they won last week, but you know where we kind of see the Patriots right now? Whether or not that was a big win, we'll see.
00:08:59
But this was definitely a big win.
00:09:01
And, uh, you know, this helped me kind of take me back off the ledge.
00:09:05
First from the buffalo side of things.
00:09:07
We'll get to Seattle in a minute from the buffalo side of things.
00:09:10
How How did you see this for them? And do you think this was a big statement? One for them this season.
00:09:54
Look, I mean, uh, say what you will about the Patriots.
00:09:56
They still have to play them again later this season.
00:09:58
So, Andi, I expect them to be competitive again.
00:10:02
I you know, it's just like when we saw the Patriots being good and buffalo not so good.
00:10:08
You know, the games was still competitive, so I expect the same from there.
00:10:11
Like I said as we started talking about this game, I'm taking myself off the ledge a little bit when it comes to Buffalo.
00:10:18
And if I was a Buffalo Bills fan because again, I I saw a lot from them today that, you know, especially Josh Allen, that that's the big thing.
00:10:27
When you start seeing Josh Allen looked like he was regressing a little bit and maybe not regressing.
00:10:33
Maybe it's just coming back to normal because those first four weeks to Josh Allen, we're talking about him as a legitimate M v p. Candidate.
00:10:40
Um, not so much sense.
00:10:42
And and, you know, again, you were like, Okay, well, you know, the Buffalo Bills could be great on defense.
00:10:47
They can all have all these offensive weapons.
00:10:49
But if they're getting mediocre quarterback play Well, guess what? It's the Buffalo Bills, and that's that's what they are.
00:10:54
And, uh, you know Josh Allen? Definitely, definitely.
00:10:57
Um, really kind of made a big, big moment for himself here and especially coming off the heels of, you know, the sad news from his family.
00:11:07
So on the flip side, though, Seattle this is starting to really become a problem because we've talked about it, and this has always been the caveat.
00:11:17
With Seattle, their offense is great.
00:11:20
They could do a lot of things on offense, but their defense is atrocious.
00:11:25
And as much as I want to give Buffalo credit for what they did on offense, that Seattle defense, whether without Jamal Adams and Carlos Dunlap, is bad and I don't see a fix.
00:11:39
And look, Russell Wilson did not play good today.
00:11:42
His stat line looks okay, but let's not care ourselves.
00:11:46
A lot of that came in and late garbage, you know, quote unquote garbage time, his riel stat line rest around those zero touchdowns.
00:11:55
Two interceptions.
00:11:56
Because at that point, the game was already pretty much out of hand for Seattle.
00:11:59
So how concerned are you? First off on the D on the defensive side for Seattle? And is this something that you're looking at them now is maybe they're not the best team in the NFC.
00:13:05
Yeah, and and and that's the thing.
00:13:06
Thio, Russell Wilson.
00:13:08
We know we know he can get it done, but no one can do it all the time.
00:13:12
And this isn't a one week thing.
00:13:14
I mean, we the Seattle defense, I don't have the numbers in front of me.
00:13:18
But I gotta imagine that they're giving up points.
00:13:21
That a pretty historic rate.
00:13:22
I mean, every week I feel like I'm looking over and they're giving up 33 plus points every week and that that's you just can't do that.
00:13:30
And you know, that's the thing.
00:13:32
I, Russell Wilson.
00:13:33
And you know, we try to come some slack, obviously, because again, you know, no one.
00:13:37
It's hard for any quarterback.
00:13:39
Thio overcome that this week.
00:13:43
You know, I I would say his poor play at the start hurt them early.
00:13:50
Obviously, one of the turnovers put the, you know, put Buffalo right in scoring position.
00:13:55
He threw another interception in the end zone, which is that's kind of a weird oddity with Russell Wilson.
00:14:02
He he has a lot of those moments where I feel, and maybe this is just perception not, you know, my perception versus maybe it's not reality, but in this case, I kind of feel like it is.
00:14:13
I feel like there's a lot of instances of him throwing picks deep in the end zone.
00:14:18
And again everyone thinks about the Super Bowl. One, of course.
00:14:21
Yeah, we know that.
00:14:22
But, um, there's been others and and this week was another example of that.
00:14:26
So from his individual standpoint, his and and I know doing the M V P thing at this point the season, I mean, although it is at the halfway point, so there's at least a little bit more legit legitimacy to it.
00:14:41
Um, his M V P candidacy is is taken a little bit of a hit the last couple of weeks, partly on him but mostly because of the play of a couple other quarterbacks.
00:14:52
And you know one of them, where is almost as much? Red is what you have in your screen right now, and that's Patrick Mahomes, who had another really good day.
00:15:00
And Aaron Rodgers on Thursday had another big day, and they're all of a sudden between those three.
00:15:06
And I include, obviously, Tom Brady as well who plays later tonight? Uh, it's becoming quite a logjam of a very good quarterbacks playing really good football.
00:15:17
And I think Russell Wilson might be losing the little bit of a lead that he had.
00:15:22
What are your thoughts? And who do you think might be making the most headway towards towards that spot tonight will be big to Well, I mean, you also gotta figure two.
00:16:25
We're comparing all these guys versus perfection.
00:16:28
So when we point out these little miss takes, I mean, these little mistakes are, you know, we're splitting hairs here, but you know, again, when you're talking about the best of the best of the best, this is what you have to do.
00:16:39
And, uh, I I had Russell Wilson as the favorite and I tried to make this world wording as, uh, makes sense as much as possible.
00:16:49
But I have him as the favorite right now, although again, like I said, it's its's taken a step back a little bit, Um, but I always felt right this instance that it's Tom Brady.
00:17:00
So lose and look, there's no doubt in my mind that that Brady might have the best overall supporting cast out of all of them.
00:17:08
Offensively, it's it's, you know, coming into this week, it's arguable.
00:17:12
With with Kansas City, I think they clearly have a better defense than the Packers and, uh, and Seattle.
00:17:20
I think they're more talented than the Chiefs, but I give the Chiefs a lot of credit for the championship championship experiment experience.
00:17:29
So I think that kind of closes the gap when it comes to who's better? So, you know, I think despite that, though, given the fact that he's the only one on a new team Onda that team last year with, for the most part for the most part a lot of the same supporting staff, um, is the exact opposite of what they were.
00:17:52
I think at this point last year there were two and six, and right now they're six and two and all that.
00:17:57
And of course, you know him going on Sunday Night Football, having a big game against the Saints.
00:18:02
That's gonna put a lot of wait into How do we how we see this tomorrow? Because I do think like you said, despite, you know, again with Patrick Mahomes, I I think people that always expecting so much spectacular and and it was never really I mean, it was great when he did it, but it didn't happen at the frequency that people kind of started to believe.
00:18:26
So now, when you don't see the spectacular, you think he's off when in reality, he's just doing what every good quarterback does.
00:18:34
Um, does he miss? Throw sure every quarterback does.
00:18:37
I mean, you know, people sit there and I look I'm guilty of it, too, But you sit there and point at once I'm throwing you like Oh, look at how bad will look.
00:18:44
Every quarterback has a bad throw.
00:18:46
The point is, um, he's playing consistently.
00:18:51
He's, you know, again, maybe maybe, you know, some of the picks that again.
00:18:55
I hate this out of turnover worthy plays I.
00:18:58
I think there's some stock in that.
00:19:00
But I also feel like it.
00:19:02
That also makes a lot of assumptions that, you know, maybe you you're not necessarily at liberty to make, so I'm not necessarily gonna put too much weight on it.
00:19:10
But I do think, you know that the 24 to 1 touchdown racial, whatever it is, I think is a little misleading.
00:19:18
But again, we're splitting hairs.
00:19:19
I think he probably made the most headway.
00:19:24
I the thing that's hurting Rogers right now, and I know I'm rambling a little bit.
00:19:28
The thing that's hurting Rogers is the fact that he's already lost the Brady.
00:19:31
They've struggled against some pretty good teams.
00:19:34
And you know what? Look, they just beat the Jets.
00:19:37
Yeah, I'm not gonna put to too much talk into that.
00:19:42
So needless to say, I do still think at this moment at 7 47 on Sunday before Sunday Night Football, I think Russell Wilderness the favorite, although that door is opening and it could quite possibly open the door for for Tom tonight.
00:19:56
Uh, speaking of which, actually, you know what? Before we get to Sunday Night Football.
00:20:00
I'm going to try to save that for the end.
00:20:02
Uh um do we have Ah, I missed it.
00:20:04
We have a fight on the Cowboys game, Correct? I know.
00:20:20
I was I was looking at it just a moment ago and just gonna keep my eyes on both things at the same time.
00:20:24
Who else? I'm just gonna throw it.
00:20:27
Throw the ball in your court, so to speak.
00:20:29
Who else stood out the most? Which team? Which player? Which? Anything.
00:20:33
Which was kind of eye popping from these one toe one and four o'clock games today.
00:21:45
And and, look, I mean, we, uh we obviously joke a lot with Terrence.
00:21:48
Bigs are Oakland Oakland are Vegas Raiders managing editor.
00:21:53
And I think even he'll tell you like, Look, I mean, it's much slack his car has gotten, and he's deserved a lot of it.
00:22:01
There's a reason why it's taken a while for people to start saying Oh, okay.
00:22:07
Maybe maybe we should start giving car a little bit more credit, because, look, he he lost a lot of that with with how he's played over the last few years.
00:22:15
Um, he's looking a lot more confident and how he's throwing the ball and where he's throwing the ball.
00:22:20
He's making some some pretty, pretty wild place.
00:22:24
I mean, uh, you know, things we weren't seeing the last few years and a lot of people kind of chalk that up to, like, he was a little gun shy and And, you know, given his injury, which kind of derailed his 2016 season, you don't You can't blame him.
00:22:38
But at a certain point, if you're gonna be your starting quarterback of an NFL team, you've got to get over it.
00:22:43
And people are starting to wonder.
00:22:45
So that division and you know, obviously including Patrick Mahomes has has is really starting Thio look like it has a lot of really great young quarterbacks.
00:22:56
Um, you know, obviously Derek Carr is a little bit older, but I mean, Justin Herbert, I mean again, I mean that that kid can sling it.
00:23:02
Um, even it drew lock even.
00:23:05
I mean, you know, maybe the quote unquote worst of the bunch, but that that's not necessarily, uh, you know, you know, it's not meant as an insult.
00:23:14
It's just There's a lot of really good quarterbacks in this group.
00:23:17
So outside, let's say outside of on, I'll ask you outside of Patrick Mahomes.
00:23:22
Obviously off those three.
00:23:24
Who are you? Who you were impressed with the most so far released.
00:23:28
Who you most excited to see? Developer.
00:24:13
Forgot the mutant.
00:24:14
I'm like, I'm actually I've been remarkably good at this, Uh, since since I got the new microphone.
00:24:19
Uh, not so much today.
00:24:21
I've kind of fumbled that a few times.
00:24:23
Uh, look, and we got to remember Herbert being thrust into action Ato last minute and, you know, and fortunate for Tyronn Taylor, the cir***stances of which he missed that game.
00:24:35
But it was very clear.
00:24:37
I mean, almost instantly, you're like, Wow, this kid, this kid's got something.
00:24:42
And when when you see that you're you're not going to take him out so good for him.
00:24:46
And, uh, that's gonna be a fun division to watch because I think there's gonna be a lot of high flying offense is at least this year that the Falcons almost did it again.
00:24:56
I you know, I know folks out there and and, you know, we're not here to talk about the election, but I know folks out there, we're going to say, Hey, you know what, Georgia, if you come through for us, we're going to stop, uh, knocking you for 28 to 3.
00:25:13
I'm so glad I didn't make that proclamation because I knew I knew there was no way I would ever be able to abide by that.
00:25:20
I You know, I like to think of myself as a as a man of my word.
00:25:25
And if I say that in less than 24 hours later, I I go ahead and start knocking them, and it's just not gonna happen.
00:25:31
So I'm glad that didn't happen.
00:25:32
Because, look, I mean, it didn't happen this time.
00:25:35
The Falcons good for them.
00:25:37
They didn't blow this lead.
00:25:38
It's gonna happen again.
00:25:40
It z I don't What was the biggest margin in this game? I remember seeing it.
00:25:45
I can't remember what the exact score was, but I remember seeing and I'm like, Oh, no, the fourth quarter starting.
00:25:51
This was not good.
00:25:52
And the Falcons were up like three scores.
00:25:59
Yeah, it doesn't really matter.
00:26:05
Doesn't really matter if it's 28 to 3 at this point.
00:26:07
Um, but, look, I mean, the Falcons, obviously their their season is is you know, this is just about getting through healthy and trying to figure out what you're gonna do.
00:26:17
Uh, they obviously already fired Dan Quinn, but, you know, they come through, they come through the window over Denver to the A F C West, um, rival of yours.
00:26:28
So before we get started a football, one more thing to point out the Vikings, the Vikings have started to kind of turn it around a little bit.
00:26:36
Um, I I will I will say this.
00:26:38
I actually picked them to win the NFC North.
00:26:41
I looked very wrong right off to that.
00:26:43
I still very much may be wrong.
00:26:47
I don't think that they they they're capable of being ableto kind of dig themselves out of this hole A to this point.
00:26:53
But Dalvin cook huge game, uh, coincidentally with Adrian Peterson's well, and I would start to think that maybe maybe they might start to make some noise in this NFC playoff freeze.
00:27:49
I've right now, so it's going to be tough um, you might have been a little, you know, too little, too late for them, But certainly they don't wanna keep going on the road that they had started when they started.
00:28:01
This isn't so, uh, getting to senator football.
00:28:06
We already kind of talked about the the rates.
00:28:08
Of course, this has a lot of, you know, impact on that.
00:28:11
I would say, you know, specifically with Tom Brady in mind, um, Antonio Brown making his debut with the bucket.
00:28:18
Here's Chris Godwin is back.
00:28:20
Although his effective ists we're going to see, you know, he's still recovering from the fractured finger.
00:28:25
He might just be more of, ah, body out there for them, which, you know, tick is good enough for a lot of offenses.
00:28:32
And on the flip side, you get Michael Thomas back for the first time since, well, week one against the Bucks.
00:28:37
So how do you see this game? Because, you know, I'll give my opinion.
00:28:42
How do you see these two teams coming into this match up versus perhaps, you know, versus where they were at the start of the season.
00:29:43
And I think anyone who looked at Week one or saw Week one between these two teams.
00:29:48
But you know, Yeah, it was a good win, no doubt.
00:29:52
Great win against for New Orleans anytime you pick up a divisional win, although I think most reasonable people look to Tampa was like, Let's not judge them on this because they're off the offense just didn't look great.
00:30:06
It was okay, but it didn't look great.
00:30:08
Certainly not good enough to compete with some of these, you know, pie flying offenses like the Chiefs.
00:30:13
Or, you know, even the Saints coming into the season.
00:30:15
Uh, that's definitely not the case.
00:30:18
Now they get Antonio Brown in there today.
00:30:21
I think he's gonna make an immediate impact.
00:30:23
Um, you know, it's not.
00:30:24
Maybe it won't be a big 12 13 catch game, but I think he's going to have a touchdown tonight, and I think he's gonna be just a big part of opening up.
00:30:33
Just areas for these other receivers to go because I shared half.
00:30:45
It doesn't because if you do appeal each up and if you commit too much to him, other players are going to get to him.
00:30:55
So I think tonight is gonna be a lot of fun, obviously, if if if Brees and Brady pass back and forth this touchdown, you know regular season touchdowns lead that they have.
00:31:11
Obviously, Brady has the one touchdown has the one passing lead, uh, at the moment, so that could obviously change.
00:31:18
But, like, I, I kind of laugh and chuckle, you know, when they make a big deal about it, especially when they frame it as the most touchdowns in NFL history.
00:31:25
Because it's not, really, I mean, because, you know, a little playoffs count, too most regularly.
00:31:32
It's a lot of fun.
00:31:33
And to be able to see these two guys go at it right now, same game.
00:31:37
That's that's That's a really cool thing that I, you know, I could see.
00:31:41
But, um, I'm kind of with you, I think, despite being older, I think there's a lot of a lot of more, Ah, lot more football.
00:31:52
I had a Tom Brady.
00:31:53
Then there is Drew Brees a lot better football in the immediate future as well.
00:31:57
So I do think eventually he's gonna and it might have already happened.
00:32:01
He might have taken the lead for the last time.
00:32:03
Um, and and he may not let it go, so we'll see.
00:32:07
Do you want to give away pick? Did you pick the saints to just pick the bucks? What do you got? Yeah, Yeah, I think it's gonna be something like 38 to 21.
00:32:42
I just again, I think Antonio Brown is gonna make it.
00:32:46
And meat eating immediate impact.
00:32:48
We've seen Rob Gronkowski really start to come into form.
00:32:52
Um, you know, he was kind of afterthought coming into the season now, especially with George Kittle out in a Calcio.
00:33:00
The best tight ends in the league.
00:33:02
And it's like you're seeing the old Rob Gronkowski in the way he rugs, routes and certainly the way he blocks.
00:33:08
I mean, I don't think he's ever lost that.
00:33:10
He is probably still the best blocking tight end in the league.
00:33:13
So, um, so, yeah, I just I think this Tampa Bay offense, even despite their injuries uh, toe Evans and to Godwin, uh, they just have too many weapons.
00:33:23
And Tom Brady's playing too good football for for the safe to really keep up.
00:33:27
And like you said, eventually, New Orleans is gonna have to beat Tampa Bay over the top.
