What's up, everybody? Chris draws ball here, hosted the Hateful Hitman podcast Live on SportsCastr with my war chant.
Recap of the evening game just got over with obviously terrible finish, you know, to the game against Pitt.
And it started out with such promise.
Um, you know, But it's like that the whole season that they started out with with a good plan, the 1st 234 drives of the game and and here we go once again, nothing in the second half.
No points scored in the second half again, they just can't get down there.
They can't get it going.
And look, I'm a Norville backer.
I He is definitely the right guy for this team.
He's the right coach for this program.
He's going to take this program in right direction.
It's not that I have to keep telling myself that it's what I believe.
This. His passion is enthusiasm.
I mean, if you go to that Jordan Travis 88 yard touchdown run and I'll get to that as we go through the game.
But you look at him on the sideline, okay, and he's waving his arms, and when he sees Jordan, Travis is cleared, you know, he throws you up, you know he's running beside him.
You know, the enthusiasm like that is what they need, um, at the coaching level at FS you, that's what they have toe have.
And he has to have that kind of enthusiasm and energy because it's going to be a rough climb back to the top.
Um, you know, we don't know the extent of what Travis's injury was.
They really didn't say anything.
Um, it was a shock when they got the ball, the second half and and black men was a quarterback.
I'm thinking, Oh, my gosh, what happened to Travis? I mean, there's no way they benched him just for, you know, he didn't have a great half, but he was definitely the best option quarterback even going with, you know, pretty.
They're in the majority.
The second half there was still Jordan.
Travis is still the best option of quarterback, so we can only hope that his injury isn't serious.
But he was on street clothes, so I mean, he was done.
I mean, there was no emergency situation or, you know, he's gonna play if something bad happens.
He was done, so we'll wait to see what the what? The extent of his injury is again.
And you know, you live by the sword.
You die by the sword with this kid.
Um, he he's the spark, and, you know, he's the straw that stirs the drink.
Um, but, you know, if he's not in there, that offense don't look the same.
That and you know, look, it's not hard we'll get into the 1st and 2nd half breakdowns in just a minute.
But, you know, it's not hard to to see what pit did to neutralize, you know, the running ability and the running threat.
You know that Travis, you know, is on it didn't take him long to figure it out.
So, you know, um, they had two weeks to get ready for this game.
And, you know, I'm watching here on TV and Notre Dame Game just kicked off with Clemson.
And, like the first play of the game, Notre Dame's this house did.
Anyway, um, you know, it took him.
It took them no time to get down there and score their first to their first to Siri's on.
They went up 14 to 3 and It's like, you know, this.
This offense is rolling.
Here we go where it's rolling. Good.
But that was about it until the second, until the very end of the first half, they didn't score again.
And you could say that that interception by Travis swung the moment.
Um, you know, in pits favor and it probably did.
But, you know, because they were even saying on the sidelines at the pit sidelines was down and real quiet.
It was just really, you know, ho hum.
Because then I always had the ball back up 14 to 3.
And Travis throws that pick and and gives them life.
But it's more to it than that.
Okay, this defense for pit is among the nation's best for a reason.
Okay, and it didn't take him long to make some adjustments.
And I don't want to say the lack of passing capability for Jordan Travis, but it's It's almost like his his elusiveness and his running the ball in his mobility as his strength and his throwing is secondary.
And for a quarterback, it's usually the opposite.
So, um, when that happens and you're a good defense and you can make those adjustments and you saw them almost instantly.
You once they got that 14 points, they had one more good drive and then pit made some adjustments and that was it.
It was just blitz all game.
They were bringing it all game.
And Jordan? Travis isn't the guy that can look past one or two reads.
He's gonna have toe get it and his first or second.
Reed's gonna be there, and if it's not there, he takes off and that's the strength of his game.
But when you're bringing six guys okay, you can't get away from that.
And you know he's Houdini.
You know, a lot of times, but when you're bringing that many guys and four of them get home, you ain't escaping That so it didn't take long for defense is a good is pits and there and there is their strength.
Is that defense? Because the offense I don't care if they scored 41 points, that offense did not impress me, not not at all.
They didn't run the ball very good there in a ball, decent and pick.
But I mean, he didn't The offense didn't impress me, But we knew that going in, we knew that it was gonna be pits offense against Florida State's defense.
And that was gonna be, you know, the mixture.
And, uh, you know, F sus offense would have been good enough had Travis been able to play to stay in this game, but they couldn't keep up.
And it's been it's been that way.
And every game that FS use lost this year when they get behind and it seems to be like a two score rule when they get behind two scores, you might as well go ahead and call it because they're not gonna be able to come back.
And when they got it back within, uh, seven at the half with that field goal, thereby growth house at the end of the first half, I really thought that they were going to have that spark going into the second half, which they did not.
So it's It's the same old, same old in the second half.
No points scored, nothing to even really look forward to in the future if Travis is out and they played party and they got him in and that was great.
But uh, he's not ready.
Okay, He's not a lot of these.
A lot of these teams can throw freshman quarterbacks in and they could make it work because they're offensive lines better.
They got a threat of a decent running game and their defense keeps them in games.
Don't have any of that of four State.
Okay, so Jordan Travis is the spark to this offense.
And if he's out, this team is going to struggle for the rest of the season.
So we wait to see what his injury is.
What about the good, the bad and the ugly? The ugly will get out of the way.
Real quick was when Blackman came in, it was automatically Oh, my gosh, this is terrible.
Look, in my opinion, James Blackmon should never take another meaningful snap for F S.
I've said this, you know, on my on my live streams in weeks past.
He shouldn't play.
He's broken, he's fractured.
His self confidence is terrible.
He's a statue back there, and with that offensive line they can't afford that statue.
So they should have just went with purty uh, at the beginning of the second half, does he throw the pick? That gives them a two touchdown lead? Maybe, but at least there's a threat of mobility, and you got to see a little bit of his athleticism talking about trouble party.
You got to see a little bit of his athleticism tonight when the pocket collapsed, he was able to move around and do something that's not Blackmon, and that's not take automaker.
So they need the threat of a mobile quarterback.
And I really would love to see Jordan Travis take the next step as a passer and be able to find the guys open and his accuracy improve a little bit.
And if that's the case, then he would be this guy and it would be it would be, no question, but as long as they're still well, he's a He's a great runner.
He's a gifted athlete and he's the most dynamic running quarterback and f S u history.
Probably, um, but the throws are just a song as he's that there's always gonna be a door left open for somebody else to come in and take that job, and then you factor in the injuries and you're looking at.
But we may have Travis the whole game.
So if you can't rely on the kid and he can't be in there for you, then you are going to, by process of elimination, look elsewhere and Travis his His window may get passed by, so I hope not, because this kid is he's awesome.
The 88 yard touchdown run he came, It was, ah, was a read option.
I kept it, came through the line, made one guy miss, and he was off to the races.
Safety back there drew a line, couldn't catch it, and, you know, that's that's But that's the dynamic that he brings.
But they have to stay in the game in their offensive scheme.
They can't be doing that on on 2nd and 15, 3rd and 18.
That doesn't work.
They have to stay ahead of the change.
That's that's simple, simple, you know, movement of the football right there.
You get negative scripts.
They can't throw the ball down the field with any kind of consistency.
And that's what we saw here tonight against Pitt.
Once they got much pit, figured it out and they made their adjustments and they dialed it in what you're looking at after that fourth day, jumping offsides penalties lost, you know, major losses on on plays, Travis scramble and lost.
What was 12, 15 yards? Just trying to allude pressure.
Once they knew that they pin their ears back, come right at him, and it was over with.
And you get in 3rd and 23.
You treat teams.
Don't convert that.
You know, you you may have back in the day had, you know, winky Toe Warrick completing that just because those were some dynamic players and, you know, But this day and age and this and this realm of college football, you're not converting the 3rd and 20 unless it's completely busted.
Play or you're playing Florida State.
In which case there is always that chance.
And Terry was back.
That's great news.
He wasn't himself.
Um, obviously, that's no big surprise.
There was probably more of a decoy.
Having him on the field automatically draws attention.
Okay, 85% to more.
Ian Terry is better than 100% of whatever else they have on the roster.
And him on the field drew pressure all night long.
There was somebody that was you constantly thinking.
Okay, Where's Terry? That takes away something on the defense.
So have him play.
If he was available and able to play was a good thing.
When I saw he was in uniforms starting, I thought, we're not gonna expect a whole lot from him because he's just coming back off, you know, minor knee surgery.
And, you know, it's gonna take a little bit.
So him coming back hopefully didn't re aggravate himself, Um, anymore, whatever heard his injuries or make himself any worse.
But I mean, him being back will help, but it really to me, I mean, in the running backs are good.
Okay. I love the Damien Web.
I love the youngster Lawrence toe feeling.
And Corbyn had a had a decent game starting off.
I was really surprised to see him have as many carries as you did to start the game.
But it was running.
Backs are good enough.
If the quarterback plays better F s.
You got exposed on the offensive line tonight.
If you've watched fs you over the past three or four seasons, this is a lot of what we've seen over the last 34 years, which lead to Deondre Francoise getting his his Achilles ruptured or whatever it was he heard against Alabama that year.
Blackmon getting beat to pieces, This offensive line.
This defense did not let up and they didn't let up until halfway through the fourth.
And then they finally took the foot off the gas when it was cruising and the coach realized, F S U is not coming back to win this game.
We can let off the pressure, and they did then and But it was blitz, blitz, blitz, blitz, blitz, all game.
And it worked because there was no threat of getting burnt over the top because that wasn't in their game.
When they third long, second and long, you can just put him back and go.
You get a little bit of run game in there.
You keep yourself 2nd, 5, 34 6 yards, something like that.
Anything is possible to play books open.
It's real simple, but they have to build this up.
It isn't gonna happen over one season, okay, so a little steps better here and there.
The offense has come a long way in a short time this year, In my opinion, I'm not a professional, Okay? I'm just a guy with a expensive laptop and and a very strong opinion.
That's all it takes to make a podcast.
They meant good strides in a short amount of time.
It's not really all the coach's fault.
I think that maybe something has to change in the off season, but they need to get more talent.
And they they all I talent, they do.
Kendo is hey is a phenomenal football player, Dix, where he started at middle linebacker, Tonight's true freshman.
He is really good.
They're but they're losing Samuel, they're losing, um, Marvin Wilson, who didn't even play tonight.
So they're gonna have some holes to fill with these younger guys.
And they set out on the broadcast for State 73% of their roster freshmen and sop****res.
I wasn't aware of that.
So they're young, they're going to grow and get better, but they have to have something to get better for.
They have to have something you have tow play for something to get better for.
You can't just think there has to be something.
Okay? There has to be something to reach for.
So the prize is F S U.
The prize is we're gonna bring this team back to prominence, and we're gonna make this team, you know, good again.
Instead of being the joke of the A C.
Which right now they are.
You wonder why? Because it's better than them.
Boston College is better than them.
I watched Duke get beat today, and they're better than them.
Okay, North Carolina gotten wasn't prepared for f s.
You I'm not sure what happened there, but fs you went into that game and they won that game.
If that team shows up every week, at least it's competitive that I was gonna win, but they got two or three more games are winnable.
If they get this fixed, they're gonna get smoked by cleansing.
If they get four wins now, I would be happy.
So I would be great.
But a long way to go And you know the defense.
Hey, I don't think they played bad tonight.
They played with heart. Emmett Rice tackled hard.
If you watch that, watch the game.
He's hitting people hard.
Stephen ****s were hitting people.
Okay, Brownlee had a really good game in the secondary.
And the one thing that I noticed that I wanted to talk about very important.
And they may have addressed this because it was almost a joke of the N C.
A was when they're down by 30 points and they're making plays, they're getting up wagging their finger, doing the incomplete.
If you noticed tonight, there was none of that, Okay? They asked all of it, and Norville and his coaching staff may have squashed and said, Hey, look, you got two wins, okay? You're two and four.
Going into this game.
We don't need none of this.
Don't need none of this, okay? That's what the rest are there to say. Incomplete.
There was none of that tonight.
There was There was some celebrating was lost downs, you know, stops for, you know, short games, whatever.
But this whole finger wagon and then nobody wants to see that when you're two and six and getting boat raced by every team you play.
And if you notice that's not it was down.
It was done and the defense played harder.
The score won't reflect it because the defense for Pitt was so dominant that offensively fs you couldn't do much.
But the defense played better tonight.
And if you go back and you know, like I said, the stats in the score, but individuals Emmett writes was hitting people.
Okay, I love Amara.
Gainer. That dude is a beast.
You know? He's hitting guys.
Samuel was really good.
Those guys are playing and hitting people.
And that's what we want to see.
Want to see growth on the defense because they've got some dogs on that side of the ball.
They just gotta release it.
You know, don't be afraid to hit somebody hard, Okay? If you if you hit somebody hard and legal, okay, something's gonna happen.
You're gonna get a loss of down, you're gonna get the ball popping loose where you're gonna get somebody realizes.
Okay, this dude's gonna smack me and Emmett Rice tonight made some really hard tackles.
And, you know, I was I was happy to see that.
So, you know, it's Ah, it's Ah, it's a crawl, and it's gonna be rough.
I said it almost every every game this year.
Other than the U.
It's gonna be a rough Kroll, and they're gonna have to get some recruits some transfers, you know, to get this thing turned around.
And you hope next year for a 500 season and you build on that, so, you know? Anyways, I'm gonna get out of here about 20 minutes.
I'd like to keep him about 20 minutes or so.
