Welcome back to O.
Here on a Thursday with an emergency broadcast on the SportsCastr platform where we're talking, of course, all things New York football giants breaking news Getting covered by Ian Rapoport over on Social Media will run right through the information that he put out there initially, uh, Mawr of the Giants here.
So we had scheduled to host the Bucks on Monday night.
The timing of the close contact cases referring to some Cove it cases that have come up here on the New York Giants roster started with quarantined.
All but four of their offensive lineman after one tested positive for Code Cove in 19 followed up there with the fact that they have the Monday night game against the Tampa Baby Buccaneers coming up and whether or not they will be considered high risk exposures will determine whether they can be cleared in time to play.
He additionally followed up Ian Rapoport, that is, with coaches.
Two of them were sent home, both the outside linebacker coach as well as the D B coach.
So now it's several offensive lineman along with these two head coaches that have tested potentially could have been either tested positive for or were in close contact consideration with those players.
So we'll wait to see what comes of it, just in terms of the response around the roster, the testing and whether or not these guys are in fact going to be cleared in time for them to make it.
By the way, Ian Rappaport is also reporting that a Chargers have had a player test positive for quota at 19 and that player and all close contacts were told today to stay home and isolate the team.
Learned of this last night in the facility will be open, but all meetings will be virtual so other teams around the NFL also dealing with this This comes a little bit on the heels of, As we know, following last week's game, Daniel Jones, Sterling Shepard say Kwan Barkley were out in the city, obviously had dinner at a private restaurant amongst themselves and then went to what was a close to the public bar and had a few drinks, had an image taken to them by a. D.
And that got up on social media and caused at least some concern around the Giants organization now don't know if there's any correlation between that and the the incidents of Outbreak on the team from the breaking protocol standpoint for those players.
Daniel Jones say, Qanbar Quiz doing Shepherd.
A couple other guys were listed in there as well.
From their standpoint, I think you know that internally was gonna be handled, his Joe judge had mentioned.
So we'll just wait to see what was going to come of that.
It will be unfortunate if it ends up being that one of those players out of that group ended up testing positive and caused this trickle down effect across the roster that could impact Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It depends, obviously, on the timing of those tests, how it comes back.
And if everyone gets clear now, all these players and coaches that have been sent home from the facility, that's all just preemptive precaution.
You don't know for sure yet if they're actually going to be positive cases and it will have to go through that protocol of getting negative test back.
If so, they'll be pulled from it.
We've seen examples of this New England Patriots suffered at the hands of the Tennessee Titans and their violations.
The Kansas City Chiefs were loosely impacted, though some would argue, maybe, and for a positive with the way their schedule got shuffled around.
So this is the nature of the NFL right now.
That's obviously something that we had anticipated coming into the season.
The question would come now for the Giants, who actually is going to be unable to play.
Is enough of this roster going to be cleared and test negative for Cove in 19 at which point you go forward with roster you have.
We saw that the Patriots were unable tohave Cam Newton under center for one of those games.
That's just the reality.
I think Gilmore also missed a game for them as well.
So that's just the reality off these type of situations around the NFL.
Currently beyond that, as we you know, just kind of touching on this game as well, we can mention that the line on this one did start out.
I believe somewhere in the 10 point range in terms of the Giants getting points, we'll go ahead and try to bring up that line here real quick just to get a sample size on it.
We know that they brought in Antonio Brown.
That is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So they're gonna have even Mawr potential to have an explosive offense down there.
I don't believe he'll be a part of this particular.
Another sign last week, so he may he may at least be on the sidelines for them, assuming that he's been brought in through all those protocols as well, trying to take a look here and just see where the betting line is.
Buccaneers coming at five and to the Giants, obviously one in six.
This is that Monday night, 8 15.
Start time in comparing these two just on the easy side of things.
Almost 32 points per game for Tampa to the Giants, lowly 17.
But we have been trending in a better direction over the last couple of weeks, at least getting up over that 20 threshold a couple of times 372 yards, good for 15th in terms of the offense for Tampa Bay to 82 for the Giants.
They don't even give you the ranking on that because we know it's safely at the bottom of the league And then, of course, the opposition points per game.
They are holding Tampa Bay opponents to just over just a hair over 20.
The Giants sit there at 20 for nearly 25 points per game.
But remember, if you're thinking about the New York Giants, you have to take in the least to account.
As far as the games that they played to this point, For the most part, they've done a pretty good job.
2 Philadelphia 22 points surrender their beat.
Washington 19 points.
Surrender their the Big two outliers over the course of this season really are the 40 Niners game back in Week three, where they lost 36 to 9, hurting both their opponents scoring as well as their own scoring output and then the 30 47 close loss at the hands of the Cowboys there three weeks ago.
Obviously, balloons that number a little bit taking out those games, which is not something you just get to do when we're talking about the stats.
But then you really are living.
Maurin a range off 22 1917 17 and then 26 Week one against the Steelers So you really be looking at something closer in that range, off 22 21 points per game? Certainly, we put them in a healthier spot.
Overall, you're talking about difference off literally, taking a score off the board there from 25 to 20 almost closer to a full touchdown score.
It will be interesting to see how they come out of this particular matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, because they do have that explosive offense.
So this will start Thio once you get that third sample size over what will be the first eight games this season, you know that the truth can lie somewhere in those stats.
And some of the teams you played early, like the Chicago Bears, still have Mitchell Robiskie under center.
And we're struggling to find any sort of rhythm on the offensive side, not similar to where they are right now in their current season.
As they try Thio keep winning games and also figure out that offensive side of the ball with Alan Robinson going through concussion protocol, potentially not gonna have him available as they look ahead to that match up this weekend with the New Orleans Saints So that's that side of it.
Some of the other things that we covered on the podcast previously on yesterday's show Markus Golden gets traded away.
Still some speculation around the possibility of other players that may find themselves on the outside looking in with on new teams and being traded away here.
It's hard to kind of speculate, so I've gotten into a couple of good conversations on social media about this stuff.
Golden tape is a great example.
So it was thrown out there that the Giants brought back Corey Coleman.
We covered that yesterday on our broadcast.
Uh, and there it is, So just okay, so just to back it up for one second here, that is Will Hernandez, who tested positive for the coronavirus.
So this is coming up here on ESPN reporting the guard.
Will Hernandez tested positive for co vid 19 and expect to be placed on that reserve slash co vid 19 on Thursday.
The Giants announced this this morning unidentified player tested positive.
The team also said the contact tracing process was initiated.
Okay, so now we've reduced it down to Will Hernandez is the player that tested positive and will head for the Cove in 19 reserve list for the New York football giants.
What that means is, as we were talking about these trade possibilities, Kevin Zeitler was one of those guys.
Arguably, even though he hasn't played great by his standard to 30 years old, he's been one of the more consistent players across this offensive line.
Maybe he was gonna be put out there on the trade block to move him to allow a player like Shane Lamu, who the Giants internally are high on and later round pick.
But they believe he can develop into a strong guard contributor for this roster.
Now, all of a sudden, with Hernandez getting moved over to the reserve list, if this game still goes forward, you will automatically bar none.
See Shane Lamu get inserted into that left guard position.
I don't think there's really anyone else that you would look to you on this roster before him, and really for a team that was looking to get him some reps.
We've talked about this before on the podcast, trying to avoid some of that baptism by fire syndrome.
When you just throw these guys into the walls, we've seen that with Andrew Thomas don't know what the impact would have been if you had still had Nate solder, and you were able to maybe give Andrew Thomas a few weeks like they've done with Pert to understand the system, get into the rhythm in the NFL, then get a couple of small sample sizes before getting a really big workload there a couple of weeks ago.
So that's going to be interesting to keep an eye on.
Yes, I do assume that we're going to see Shane Lemieux.
They're taking over that spot.
We pull up the depth chart here real quick for the New York football giants as well.
Where we can, of course, get a sense of just who else is on this roster in behind them, for the most part, is, we've talked about it.
It's always been we know we have Nick Gates move over there.
Yes, Spencer poorly behind him.
We understand what was going on in the tackle positions, especially following the opt out by name Solar.
So when we look into it and we go through the list, we of course we'll see here beyond Matt per Behind Andrew Thomas and then and now is listed already officially there as well, has moved out.
Shane Lemieux has been inserted.
Now that could be speculation, technically, but when you look at this roster overall and the offensive line, let me go ahead and give you all of the guys that are listed on the active roster right now.
They will make a move here and pull somebody up from the practice squad because you need depth protection there.
But as it stands right now, the biggest level of depth actually comes at tackle.
Where behind Andrew Thomas and Camp Fleming, you obviously have Matt Peart.
And then you also have Jackson Barton.
So you gave yourself those five offensive tackles there to fill those two spots in behind UH, behind.
Hernandez was just Shane Lamu.
Behind Gates is pulley, and then behind slightly is Shane Lamu.
So he's the guy that's going in there.
And now we'll think about how they'll shuffle the deck here to give themselves some depth options for game day if they're able to go forward with it beyond that Monday, you figure Monday the testing protocol.
Hernandez could clear and get back involved for the following week, so they could get right back to where they were.
But this is now a really big opportunity for Shane Lemieux to step in show that maybe he has a little bit of a spark here.
At that point, you at least can say.
Still, if you wanted to think about trading Kevin Zeitler, you can move on from him knowing that you're gonna get a sample size of Shane Lemieux.
Or maybe you're going Thio, look at it and say, Will Hernandez, who has struggled, who has not been good this year for the Giants? If it's time to move on, maybe he gets split into that backup role.
You play out the rest of the season with Shane Linux at left guard, and then you allow Zettler to stay with this roster for the last.
What will be, uh, you know, this is the eighth and then the remaining nine games, uh, to play at right guard and finish out the season, and that's how you're gonna live with it, and then you'll then then we'll get what we've been waiting for, right? We've seen Samat per we have seen Andrew Thomas, for better or worse, and we hope that it continues to grow out of those pains and it could be a developed left tackle for us.
You've seen Nick Gates at center, and I think that as the seasons got along, he's gotten steadier and steadier in that role.
Now you're going to get Shane Lemieux, and that will represent all of those young players and off season moves that we talked about and the re formation of this offensive line.
Still a long ways to go.
But we could be talking about being midway through this season and having an opportunity to see that combination of Thomas Lemieux.
Gates will still Baby Zeitler and then part, though.
So a lot of opportunity here.
Ah, lot of speculation around what that's going to look like.
What we will do is come back in.
I'll connect with Andy Mackiewicz.
We'll be right back in here tomorrow morning.
We'll cover this stuff in a little more broad stroke detail, but obviously more information is gonna come out over the remainder of today and then into tomorrow morning we'll have a better sense of not only what it looks like on the roster and any other contact traces the process that's gone through.
Are there any other positives out there on the team? And then beyond that? What does it look like for Monday night's game? Will that still be on the sleep? We thank you, as always for checking in with us.
