he right? All right.
I'm Garrett from Iowa.
And this is the degenerate corner.
The first one ever Quick break down what I wanna do here.
We're gonna start off.
It's gonna be a little different this week because it's my birthday this weekend, so I got some plans going on.
But going forward, I think Wednesday nights I am going to do Hawkeye talk for the season, uh, the entire football season and will probably cover basketball to might switch nights when we get to basketball and on.
Then, on Friday nights, we will be doing college football gambling picks, uh, no previews.
Nothing to in death.
Just games I like and what I am actually going to be betting on not who I'm gonna win, who I think is gonna win big games or whatever.
Just games I'm going to put bets on.
And then we're gonna do the same thing for the NFL on Saturday nights this week.
I'm gonna kind of combining both tomorrow night.
Do both college and NFL and one big go.
Because, like I said, I'm a little busy this weekend.
I'm going another year older.
So there's that kind of dive right into it on Hawkeyes, which is the main topic for tonight.
Rough weekend, uh, hard game to watch.
So definitely did not expect us to drop that one.
I got blawg on it.
You look at me. Look me up.
Garrett from Iowa on Twitter.
I got all my stuff there, but, um, yeah, we lost the game.
The fumbles really hurt us.
And our defense definitely looked gassed at the end.
That was dropped because we're usually the team that is running over everyone at the end of the game.
And this game, it was not.
It was definitely the other team running all over Iowa's defense.
It's kind of been a trademark thing for Iowa over the years.
Yeah, we've made other teams look bad in the fourth quarter and this'll game.
We look bad in the fourth quarter.
So it was a tough loss.
We're gonna have to move on a couple things.
Got some positive to take away from the game.
Spencer Petrus, our new quarterback.
22 of 39 for 265 yards.
Hey, definitely had a couple that he missed.
That's gonna be a little mix of the good and the bad here.
But so far what we're looking at is he is incredibly accurate.
And when he wants to be and has a cannon and he doesn't make bad decisions, I don't think I'm sure there's somebody out there that's going to correct me.
But I don't think Hey saw him throw a single bad throw as far as throwing it into danger where he's going to get a pick or where it's in danger.
Getting picked off, he definitely overshot people.
His accuracy was hit and miss, so we definitely need to clean that up, get some consistency there.
So but he has the makings of a very good Iowa quarterback, and I think we could see ah, a lot from him going forward.
Another bright spot.
Goodson, sergeant 140 some yards between them, they both look good. Other than the fumbles.
You can argue that Goodson's was kind of mishap, so there is that.
But still we can't have fumbles on turnovers, loses games, especially that one in the fourth quarter really hurt.
But Goodson just ran people over all day and that was really good to see on receiving.
We had Laporta leading the way with 71 yards on five receptions and regain the right behind him with four receptions in 61 yards.
And then Goodson Smith, Tracy Jr Pot a Bomb all got into the mix.
Big name missing there.
We did not see Smith Mar set catchable.
Uh, some of that could be credited.
Thio produce defensive planning.
But Spencer himself said in the post game, he definitely missed him on some throws.
And I mean, that's unfortunate, that guy, he's fast and hey does a good job.
He's just a great guy.
You need to get him involved in the offense.
It was definitely unfortunate to see him shut down all day, but like I said, uh, Spencer in the postgame interview he did with Ed Polack and Gary Dolphin, he was very critical of himself, and that's what you gotta see after a game like that, because he missed wide open throws and he no, he did.
He admitted that he did, so it's something he knows he needs to work on.
I think he's gonna be even harder himself after he watches the tape.
Just need to work on the accuracy and getting more consistent.
5 quarters of great play, and it really hurts Seeing them get ran over for the last drive to win the game, but the offensive put him in that position to They gave the offensive chance to win, and we fumbled.
So not a lot of concerns on defense.
Uh, a little worried that Campbell's out hope to have him back soon.
It does not look like he's gonna be playing this week, which is unfortunate, but, I mean, Iowa has always been lock load, reload on defense.
We got a lot of great guys, so I really expect the defense to be forward.
Duncan was his normal self and moving on.
That's enough talk about the loss.
We know it was bad.
So moving on to the next game, we have Northwestern coming into Kinnick, uh, wrote a block on this to once again, uh, Garrett from Iowa.
Got almost up there, so normally I would give this game toe Iowa, probably nine out of 10 times.
The Wildcats do occasionally find a way to surprise us, but usually this is Iowa's going to lose.
However, after the showing Saturday last Saturday, I don't have as much confidence this is still a game that we can win.
It's just really gonna depend whether or not we can clean stuff up.
Northwestern is coming off 43 to 3 shot lacking of Maryland.
Now it is Maryland.
So you gotta take that with a grain of salt.
The biggest thing take away from that game is I don't think you could read a whole lot into it.
As far as how good Northwestern is, uh, to Aaliyah, I'm not really sure how you say his name, but to us.
Good brother transferred in, went 14 for 25 94 yards and three interceptions.
And they also had another turnover in that game.
So four turnover game, uh, controlled the ball two thirds of the time.
Maryland was never in the game, so it's not really a good game to judge how good Northwestern is, but they're definitely gonna be right in the high of a beat down and coming into Kinnick looking for blood.
So we're gonna have to be ready for him.
I really think I was gonna be looking for blood to.
That was a tough beat at Purdue, and they're gonna be looking to bounce back from it.
Hopefully, another week of practice will help Petrus clean up the rusty nous.
I'm probably talking too fast.
Yeah, that's my first time by myself.
So bear with me.
But I think Patrick's will have definitely have some rust knocked off and have the timing down a little bit better with his receivers.
Week of practice could make a lot of difference when it comes to that timing and the one thing I forgot.
Toe cover Talking about Purdue game is penalties.
10 penalties for 100 yards, right? You can't have that.
Iowa builds their program around, not making mental mistakes.
That game was full of them.
So we got to clean up the false starts.
Stop giving away yards, giving away place, and as long as we could do that and clean up the fumbles, I think we run away with this game.
We're going to see whether or not that happens, but should be a really good game.
You got to watch the quarterback.
Good athlete does a good job.
23 for 3200 and 12 yards and a TD against Maryland.
Hey, didn't really have to do much.
The game was pretty well in hand, and it was evidenced by their heavy rushing attack.
They had let me see here.
Four or 56789 players with carries.
That's That's a lot.
And out of those nine Onley, two of them were single carry.
Everybody else had more than one.
Had four guys with rushing touchdowns, including Ramsey.
One of the big things they have to watch out for is Anderson.
He had 100 and three yards on 10 carries.
Now Iowa has a better defense of Maryland.
So we're gonna have Thio do our job and keep him bottled up. We can't be leading.
Yeah, that's a 10 yards per carry average.
You can't be letting that happen if you're gonna win a game.
So definitely gonna have to stuff the run, make him throw some more, put Ramsey and uncomfortable situations, and it's really easy to have a great game when you're up to scores.
The vast majority of it and the other team's offense isn't doing anything kind of makes it easy for you.
So it'll be interesting.
Our defense is gonna have to be our defense.
And hopefully our offense doesn't put him in a hole in the fourth quarter of this year.
This time around and Iowa comes away with the wind.
Um, that's about all I got for this.
Like, says my first time on by myself.
So thank you all for joining.
And I'll be back tomorrow night with gambling picks for both college and the NFL.
So you all have a good night and we will see you next time.
