What's up way? Got audio. This stuff.
You can hear me, right? All right.
How are we going? How we doing? Correct.
You can hear me now, right? Yeah. Yeah.
Can you hear me? Mhm.
Yeah, I could hear you.
Don't e don't know if it's on my end this time.
Anybody in the chat here? Right.
How about now? You hear it? Yeah. My check.
Anybody hear me? Yeah, right.
Yeah, Right now you do.
Do you hear anything I say? I can hear you perfectly.
Jack and heroes.
Beth, apparently, now we're doing the whole, uh, Mike.
No, headphone, No.
Okay, so the problem is definitely on my end, because tarps talking here, both of us, Right? Because of course it's on mine.
Let me try something here.
All right, Talk to me.
This, you hear? Right.
Now, let me put the back over there, and I go over here.
All right? You found fine now, Okay with this.
All right? Yeah.
I'm not sure what's going on, but here we go.
That difficulties that we've tried for the people here, we've tried like four other times.
There's always been something with technical difficulty from somebody's side.
Yeah, I don't know.
My computer just doesn't like this SportsCastr thing, because this is, like, the fourth time I've done a podcast.
And the first with you is the only time I've had any problems with its probably being temperamental.
Yeah, it's my birthday this weekend for the birthday.
The wife got me a mic and headset deal for podcasting.
So I'm gonna be rolling in style.
Won't have no issues anymore.
That's the idea.
We're gonna get all the issues. Mhm.
Eso, uh, get started.
Basically, what we plan to do for the technical difficulties.
You just talk to my XFL, have some fun.
So you want to start with, like, your favorite team? Make it Make it easy, Alright.
I get it from Iowa.
I'm from Iowa, big football guy.
I, uh I have a little slight confession to make.
I didn't really have a favorite team due to the shortened season.
I was just kind of watch Watch them when they were on Because I love watching football.
So look a little bit.
I'm gonna roll the Tampa bag.
What looks that to some of the highlights.
That's gonna be my team going forward.
We're gonna roll Tampa back.
I couldn't take ST Louis because I hate ST Louis because I'm in Chicago guys.
So that was the closest local team with ST Louis.
I can't take them, so we're gonna go.
Yeah, Quentin flowers on Tampa.
He's Q B running back high.
There was talks of him going to Dallas for a try it because he was actually scheduled to play in the spring league, but he was randomly taken off the roster for some unknown reason.
Everybody just assumes it's Dallas with nobody's hurt.
E looked up if any of them had made it onto the roster this fall, and there was only five that made it onto active and, like 13 on the Practice and Flowers was E.
Was kind of surprised because he was one of the guys that pop out of me when I was looking at stats and highlights, so always liked him.
Three years in a row, over 3000 yards in college passing and three years in a row of 2000 running, that's in That's incredible.
Oh, yeah, that was I've been watching except the highlights on and off for about the past week.
This kind of re acquainting myself because it's been a while since we had a game.
Man, there's a lot of really good football on a really good players in the league.
66 or eight months since we had a game.
Uh, let me see September.
Now it's October.
We're rolling with 6 October.
So six months now.
So you kind of you kind of forget a little bit.
So I just went on YouTube and had anything that said XFL highlights and just let it play on my TV when I was doing other stuff.
There's a lot of really good football going on in the league.
Yeah, honestly, I'm more into that than I am NFL.
I think it's because of, you know, that's most of what? My article, Zahra.
Bad in that? Yeah, yeah.
No, I'm definitely looking forward.
I was kind of disappointed when I saw that they weren't trying to do a season for 2021.
That's what I thought, too.
But also being they're coming, like, fresh off of the league being canceled.
I feel like the rock didn't wanna have to flight.
Was Kareem in in having another potential shutdown? And plus, he's the rock.
If he wants to wait another year, he's still gonna have the whole fan base.
Yeah, The rock really got nothing to lose.
Yeah, it will be interesting to see what the teams look like coming back, but we're getting off course now.
You could tell us about you because I already told you about.
If you know, man, I was a big city like diehard Seattle Dragons fan, mostly because of my boy, the punter Brock Miller.
Shout out Brock Miller, then Cube.
Everybody loved to hate this man. Brandon Silver's.
You can ask anybody if XFL mark cast is in here.
You guys know that I piggyback Brandon Silver so much? I literally love that man.
Six TDs, four interceptions.
Everybody hates them.
He started every game but won.
I mean, sure, he got a little bought hurt for, like, a better terms when they pulled him for B.
But, I mean, who wouldn't if you're the starting Q B and you feel like you're the team's leader and you get pulled.
Nobody's gonna be happy.
Yeah, I always like.
So where is he? Always kept his head up.
He never let the noise to get to him.
He just played good football.
Yeah, definitely one of the things that really surprised me.
And I watched a couple of the highlight games from the bikers.
They could not close out games last year.
Oh, yeah, I believe they were the worst team in the fourth quarter. Defensively.
Yeah, but you look at him overall, they had the number one rushing defense.
They were tied for second on the passing defense that the number one rushing offense.
And they were third in passing offense by like 0.8 yards.
So they were basically tied for second on passing offense.
They just couldn't close anything out and that it was just that just that was part of what attracted me when I was just like looking at staffs and stuff.
I'm like, Oh, well, here's the number one defense in the league.
I like watching defense's like if I'm watching a game like if I'm watching S e T Hours game because I'm a Big 10 guy.
But I watched SEC football because it's football.
But I just here for what was on defense because I like watching defense.
So that was kind of way that drove me towards Tampa Bay, that they had the best D in the league.
And then you start watching their games.
It's like, Well, they had the best D in the league for three quarters.
Yeah, in the fourth quarter, they just turned in the I got man.
OK, that was totally off the wall, but a defensive tackle just had an interception in the spring League E just completely shocked me.
But back to that in the fourth quarter, I believe with something like they let up 15 more points than any other team in the fourth quarter.
I would 2nd 2nd with Seattle. I was.
I think I will admit Seattle was not the best defense, although they did have a couple of good guys like Steven Johnson.
They had hot point here and there, but they were couldn't close out games.
The reason they only won one game.
I think I was watching the highlight reel from Los Angeles, the Los Angeles game and it was a fairly good one.
It wasn't just showing scoring place.
It was just showing first downs and decent runs and turnovers and everything.
There wasn't a Los Angeles play on the highlight deal till the third quarter.
Like, I mean, they went up 24 nothing quick.
I think they forced three turnovers all in the first half, and then they ended up losing the game like it was like 36 28 or something like that.
They just came out the first half and spank them and just couldn't close the game out.
So is the Los Angeles was actually the opposite.
Cad can off Luis Perez.
Actually, not Luis Perez.
He was the first trade that went to The Guardian's his act with that other guy.
I'm drawing a blank Josh Johnson 11 touchdowns.
I'm not good with names.
I have this little like no bad deal.
But I wrote if I wanted to remember because I can read it and you ask me three hours later and I'll tell you the number will be able to tell you the name E mainly just have it all memorize.
You're better than may I? I can.
I'm pretty good at remembering like stats and what I saw but to, like, get the actual names and exact numbers.
I gotta have it broke down.
Yeah, like, yeah, that defense.
I mean, they were pretty good against the run.
And that one linebacker had a whole bunch of tackles, so yeah.
Yeah, Cornerback was pretty good, too.
I think he had a couple of pics, especially that one game.
He had that one.
Pick six, you know? Oh, yeah, that was awesome.
That was the best game of the year.
No, I like that.
You brought up Quinn flowers.
He was one of the guys I wrote down because, I mean, he was 16 rushes for 78 yards, playing as a hybrid.
I mean, for basically five yards every time you ran the ball, that you can't go wrong.
I mean, you'll see some guys that are sweep specialists or run run exclusively off the reverse, and I'll have, like, 12 or 15 yards per carry average is.
But for any actual running back to be averaging five yards every time you run. That's impressive.
If he was just a straight up running back, he wasn't, you know, like, uh, yeah, no, a jet sweep or you just three.
That plowing through guys.
Oh, yeah, it was impressive.
And then and they're tight end.
I didn't write down his stuff because he you see a lot of him.
He got picked up by the Panthers, and he saw a lot of him.
Hey, was really good at blocking.
I think he only had, like, Well, I think how is that was, like, one catch for 13 yards, But he didn't talking when the Panthers picked him up, so I mean, at least he shared what you could do. We got to the NFL.
He might have been putting the dirty work, but he got to the big.
So I thought that matters in the end, you know, somebody's got to put in the dirty work.
I mean, I just I'm really big.
My dad was an old lineman in high school.
He wasn't no superstar.
Anything didn't even play college ball.
But even growing up, he was always telling me that you see that block? Did you see that block? Did you see what that guy did? And just always pointing out the mechanics of stuff because the running backs get a lot of credit, but they ain't getting nowhere without their own right.
Those guys get overlooked a lot.
Which is this is NFL related, but proved Levian Bell from the Steelers.
He was insane on the Steelers, and he went to the Jets and just, hey, couldn't do it without the good headline.
Yeah, well, a lot of that has to do with gays being a horrible Yeah, yeah, but yeah.
No, they just didn't have the blocking.
And that's the problem with the Bears to that's That's my NFL team and they can't get Mount.
Montgomery is running out of room a yard behind the line of scrimmage every time he touches the ball.
They if they could at least get him past the line.
He'd be wrapping off 34 yards to carry every time.
Oh, yeah, usually so it's kind of frustrating to watch, but and I can't remember what it was.
The 40 Niners game last week saw their guard take out D tackling a linebacker with one block.
Hey, hey, just He jumped in front of the line backer, so his legs came back across and hit the linebackers legs at about the knees as he was hitting the D tackle.
And he didn't stop either of them.
But he slowed him up long enough to get the back around the corner and he was gone.
That's what matters.
Yeah, plays like that.
Just make me smile.
Yeah, Jack has a question in the comments.
What's our opinion on the XFL's A stepping stone to the XFL? For May out, I don't I don't consider the XFL to battle NFL, but I also don't really consider it is like a minor league.
But I feel as going to the XFL is going to help your chances to get to the NFL.
Like there, too.
Like I want to consider it something.
It's like a minor league.
No, it's definitely not a minor league.
I think expansion league is a term I heard.
E I think that's a little bit more accurate because I don't think that we're ever gonna get to be where, like for a baseball ****ogy, if you you come out of college and you go play for the Iowa Cubs and then events.
If you do good, you'll get to go play with the Chicago Cubs.
I don't think we're ever gonna have anything like that.
But you come out of college and you are a you know, like six or seventh round pick and you, you know, projected and you go and then you got Tampa Bay offering you a contract to pay you and they'll tell you you're gonna be first or second string.
You're gonna be on the field.
You go play there for two years and clean up whatever it is you need to clean up.
And then the NFL comes calling.
Yeah, I agree with that.
Yeah, I don't really think it's quite it's not really gonna be a minor league system or necessarily a stepping stone.
I think it's really gonna function as its independent league, but you'll definitely have some guy's going from XFL, the NFL if they improve.
And if they improve? Yeah, the way that Z kind of like a better turn.
So it's like a showcase for your talents, but also to get paid to display your talents.
It's definitely something that's gonna help you make it to the NFL in the end.
Well, I think the real interesting thing.
Long term with it.
I mean, we're kind of getting off into the weeds here a little bit, but, I mean, we gotta hear before the season starts.
So we might as well.
What does all day song? I think the people are gonna be watching this.
The closest is probably gonna be the N c double A truth.
Because if this if they get 345 successful seasons under their belts and they're going to be do and the X f l, I mean gets 345 good seasons.
They're making money.
It's pretty obvious they're gonna be around.
I think a lot of these high school kids are gonna be looking at Well, I can go make 50 grand a season, or I could go to school for free.
Yeah, And here you're going to school for free.
But if you want to make it to the pro, he also has to be good on the field to Yeah, so it's almost kind of like, you know, the I just kind of like the MLB or N B A.
You get drafted straight out of high school and start playing professionally.
Yeah, well, and I think that that would be as faras the x f l.
I don't think they're ever going to compete with the NFL directly.
I mean down the road.
But the NFL is just It's too big.
Got too much history.
But I think there's definitely a marketplace for him.
And, like I said it, they get they get a few good season under their belt where people think they're gonna be a success.
They're going to start competing with these college guys.
I want to get paid.
Yeah, just going to school for a free scholarship and dealing with the N C.
Double A as football isn't quite as bad, but like NC double A, uh, I can't remember the school, but some volleyball team had the forfeit a championship and a perfect season because they bought a player of phone.
Yeah, $225 player a phone, and they lost their championship and their perfect season off the books.
But that's stupid, like it's not like you're saying you're gonna get $50 a win or something.
You literally buying somebody that you're buying something that somebody needs.
That's like saying, Here's a box of Syria.
Yeah, well, I mean a lot of these kids, and I was going to start to say something a little bit different, but the more I think about it doesn't matter.
On college, I mean living in Iowa City, and I'm sure it's worse.
I saw somebody said, Roll Tide.
So I'm sure it's were worse in Alabama, at least as bad in Alabama as the desire with City College isn't cheap.
I mean, not even about tuition.
You know, just paying for housing, paying for your books, all this stuff.
It's just it's not cheap. It costs money.
And you get a lot of these kids going to college to play football.
They don't come from a whole lot, and I don't care if it's a farm in backwards Iowa, where your dad has 1000 acres.
Or if you grew up downtown Detroit, it is.
Them kids are in the same situation.
They don't have a whole lot of extra money.
So you, um, I'm gonna go to college and play football for free, and it's great bye.
For four years, I hope I get to the NFL or am I gonna go play for the X f? I will get paid if it's May and that such a situation.
I'm taking access.
Get the money straight up.
Plus, you're already getting a big If you're talking five years down the road, you may even have a bigger platform.
And somebody at Auburn, Alabama, big colleges.
Because professionals, you can you can actually bet on professional league.
That's a whole another group of people.
Yeah, at least the same level of exposure.
I will definitely be interesting.
I say I'm thinking that's the rock they're gonna do way better than they did the first time.
Yeah, because the rock, arguably one of the probably one of the most popular killer people in America who doesn't love with rocks.
Well, everybody loved rock.
There's just Yeah.
I mean, I don't It was kind of funny, because I'm gonna go slightly political here, but I'm not really gonna be picking sides.
You see, all these people like that lady off The charm show went came out hard for Biden and like Fox News and everybody was making fun of her.
You had Chris Pratt with his deal about not going to the fundraiser and CNN, and everybody was going after him.
The rock comes out and supports fight, and it's just crickets nobody wants to mess with E.
Just thought that was funny.
Every single other celebrity that comes out to makes an endor*****t get's absolutely murdered by one side of a rock picks aside and everybody's like, Yeah, we're just gonna leave that guy.
Well, yeah, Iraq and probably take on all 50 the all 50,000 people at once in window that that that that that definitely made me laugh.
Um, the other thing, I kind of wanted to ask you because you're a little more tied into this than I am, and I'm kind of coming into a little bit late as far as the news thing.
Have they made any announcements? Are they keeping the rules like the 12 and three point tries to kick off changes the stuff like that going forward? As far as I know, it's all gonna be the same besides possibly different cities for the teams because certain cities aren't totally agreeing yet, but I know the Tampa Bay and ST Louis or to that half agree.
I believe in Los Angeles is in the process.
They're trying to get the same teams back.
That that'd be cool.
No, I mean, that was the other thing.
Just watching the highlights.
The kick returns were so much more fun to watch.
And even from what? Last season, the 12 and three point I was really sad when the season got cut short, because I really think as the season went on, coaches would have been using those the different options a lot more strategically.
Oh, yeah, for sure, because I mean remove.
That's the only time you saw anybody using the three point was when they needed points to catch back up.
Yeah, and plus that I just made the game so much more interesting just bopping through the kick.
The field goal extra point.
Probably That's, like 95% success rate.
Why? Don't ****e it up a little bit of the XFL, then? Oh, yeah, definitely so, yeah, because, I mean, even the NFL and college have been trying to do something a little bit about it either a little bit about it, with the two point conversion and moving the field, the extra point attempt back.
But I mean, even especially in the NFL.
Trying kicking a 35 yard as opposed to a 20 yarder is going to change anything.
98% of the kickers, I say 98% because we do live in the world where the double blank exist.
But 98% of the time from 35 yards or kicker is gonna be just as good as it gets from for So it just it didn't really change a whole lot.
Oh, I just had That was one of the ones I was excited about, that that I hope they keep.
And I really like to kick off, set up where you know, the guys.
You got the blocking line, the receiver back there and the tackling line.
And nobody moves to the balls caught, and you can't put it in the end zone for time.
I don't know what because NFL extra points when you guys bought it like six yards deep into the incident.
Either that or just it will hit the five and the returner just let it g o yelp.
And that's Yeah, that's just wait. Touchbacks.
Take away one of the most exciting parts of the game on Devin Hester is one of my favorite NFL players ever, right? Because he's a bear.
But watching him return kicks was just so much fun.
I remember I'm like mad, and this is going back in the day.
Well, back in the day for me.
Like mad in 09 or 10.
He was the only player with 100 speed ever on the game.
Oh, yeah, I do this faster than ****.
Find that you do it.
You do a lot of custom on your shows, right? Oh, yeah.
You say what? You what? Yeah, I know.
I'm really dealing them out every other sentence without even realizing it.
Yeah, I don't care.
This is on field.
Yeah, I'm looking.
I'm sorry. I was reading Tarps off.
We got tarps off.
Jack is a fairly active commentator here. Tarps off.
Jack C M v Pizza.
Yes, I do like Eddie Jackson.
Um, this is an NFL.
So? So I'm not gonna get into what happened on Monday night.
Let's see Dallas in yet.
That would be a moose question.
Is Dallas in on the X f l yet? Uh, most likely, I would say, because the rock does want they want to keep all eight original team, But he could only confirm Tampa and ST Louis and most likely Los Angeles at the moment.
But the only solid lock, sir.
ST Louis and Tampa.
Okay, Of course.
ST Louis wants because they lost their France and they're s***bags City.
So they'll take whatever.
Everybody piggyback the battle hawks so much.
I hated that team.
I just I have a severe dislike for anything coming out of ST Louis Cardinals.
Oh, **** the cardinals.
You're a Cubs fan.
Oh, the Cubs usually own I was a pirates, man.
I'm okay with that.
It is what it is.
This is not cardinals.
Uh, I hate the cards to we share that mutual.
Well, uh, mutual hatred.
Oh, super important.
Nowhere else to get Excellent.
You came to the best check.
Oh, man way have gone a little off the rails here, but I'm very excited to see what the rock does with it.
I e I have definitely, um I know we've been a little light on XFL, but I've spent the last week I went on Twitter and I followed, I think about 15 XFL accounts that I hadn't been before because I wasn't really active on Twitter when the last XFL season was going on.
Uh, on a bunch of them.
I checked out the XFL website looking for news and pretty much anywhere else I can that that.
What's the name of the league playing tonight? Alright. League.
Yeah, the spring league.
There's a little bit going on with that.
I just I could have the game on directly behind me, Like my laptop is almost touching the screen.
Yeah, I gotta work on getting that set up where I can have have the TV behind the laptop so I can keep an eye on stuff going on.
I watched a little bit of that before we came on here, but I just there's not really a whole lot of there's not many like notable players.
I mean, we don't have any.
As far as I know, there aren't any rosters to talk about.
XFL related Yeah.
No, I can talk Spring League for a minute just because I want to share Brian Scott, who is actually the two QBs on right now.
I'm going to talk about Brian Scott from the generals.
He actually played D three and he didn't get drafted.
He went to the Chiefs, and then he went to the Spring League last year.
And then he's back in the Spring League and the other guy is Kevin Anderson.
Uh, how do you say, conquerors quarterback.
I've been a fan of him ever since.
He was a freaking Marshall like, 2015 and he transferred the Fordham.
He didn't get drafted.
I I don't even think he had, like, an NFL show it.
Then he went thio the the league that went the league that went down the pot, the lines of American Football League and play for Orlando.
It's like a Q B to third down guy because he's Dolce through it, just especially tonight.
This dude slinging it, he's He hit a guy in coverage.
There were 30 yards down the field.
His arm is crazy.
Yeah, well, they got shame.
Magic plan in that league, too.
The guy from Michigan.
Three TDs is this afternoon.
Yeah, well, we always called in shape.
Tragic because he's goingto so. Turnover.
It was important, but e I mean, it's good to see him playing, and I hope he does well because the guy, the guy had a lot of talent, and he's one of those guys.
When we were talking expansion Li versus minor league stuff that I think could benefit because he he had, he showed flashes of brilliance, and he's got the talent.
He's got talent.
He just He made too many mistakes needed to improve his mental game.
Go play two years in the spring league or for the XFL.
Clean that stuff up and he might get his shot.
Yeah, that's the reason I like the XFL's because players who a they didn't have a fair chance in the NFL or be just want to a small school and didn't have the talent yet.
They could almost use it as a minor league for lack of better term was just a be have some pro level players to go against and home down their skills, then go to the NFL from there? Yeah, definitely no I think I don't think it will be anything but good for football.
Uh, one other thing.
I've been trying to come up with something clever, and I have not.
But if we're gonna be doing this week that we need to come up with a name for it.
So I think we've been vouching between 10 and 20 people watching.
So anybody's got any ideas for tarps up, tarps off.
Jack, you're the M V P.
You've been dropping us. Um, good comments.
E need to apologize.
Reading comments Out of the corner of my eye, I thought that the super informative combat comment waas that meant sarcastically and obviously was not so I apologize for that.
It was just bad time, and it came right when we're talking baseball.
So e did the same thing with the reset e thought he was messing around, but, uh, e it was like a backhand.
Yeah, I think it was actually a compliment.
So that and thanks for the follow.
I'm not sure if it's not here on Twitter or whatever.
My handle is Garrett from Iowa, g a r r E t t from Iow A midnight Most.
If you search midnight movie, you get him and, ah, Iowa going gonna beat Ohio State this year.
I'm way we beat Ohio State is if we win the West and I don't I would like to serious from the table and have that happen, but I just I don't know.
We got some tough games coming up and we have to make it to the title game.
If we wanted to play Ohio State, if we pull together and make the title game, I think we can.
Speaking of Iowa, I think they ****ation right.
Excuse me, E think Stanley is actually in the spring league, That Iowa quarterback from last year that I That would be good because the Vikings picked him up.
But I know he got sent back to the practice squad before the season started, and I I'd like to see the guy get chance.
I think if you put the right weapons around him, it can be good because he doesn't make mental mistakes.
Hey, doesn't have the arm that a lot of that.
I think that's probably what helped him back.
He doesn't have the accurate D farm.
Hey, could hit a guy in stride at 50 yards downfield, but he's not gonna throw a 30 or 40 yard bomb in the double coverage and put it between two.
Defenders were only his guy could get it.
You know what I mean? Kind of like a slightly Marcus Marietta comparison.
Yeah, yeah, but no, he definitely has some talent.
And I mean and say, Well, you know, I always had a little bit off field drama.
I think it's getting blown up by the press a little bit.
I don't think it's bad as a lot of press makes.
It's a scene, but Iowa kicks out mentally strong players.
You know, You go to Iowa, you learn how to play football without making mistakes.
And if you make dumb mistakes, you don't play for Iowa.
So regardless of talent level, you're always gonna get somebody that is a monthly strong player when they come out.
Yeah, sure, it'd be nice if Stanley could get a shot.
But yeah, it's good to hear that you're still playing football.
All I wanted was almost picked off.
E just want got super into the game there.
They went forward on forced them.
They didn't get it, obviously.
Yeah, but either way, that's if you're If you're into the show, that's it's sure it's XFL base, but we talk about anything if you just sitting there.
Yeah, as the whole point is, Just talked to football now. So far.
Yep, exactly, but yeah.
I'm gonna I'm keeping my eyes open.
I'm gonna try to get some inside info, maybe find some people I can hit up.
Thio, get some XFL news or find something that's not really has mainstream.
But, you know, plug xfl board dot com.
I'm gonna plug xfl board dot com.
Yeah, I totally not bites because I write for them.
**** everybody you want.
We gotta pay the bills.
Eso But yeah, definitely. Definitely.
I got them on twitter, so that's pretty been pretty good ones, but hopefully we'll have a little bit more xfl related next week.
But either way, we could talk to football, uh, to I'm gonna have thio half hour.
And I think it went pretty well.
Yeah, went smoothly.
