What's going on? Lunch breakers and takers.
This is another episode of the lunch break. Hot take.
I am Jose and this is Bradley, and we're doing it live.
We just finished watching UFC 2 54 Fight Island Habib No Mago Madoff First Justin G and combine finishes with the undefeated career as it retires after he choked out just engaging with the triangle choke hold.
And yeah, that's not much surprise for me.
Um, pretty dominant.
Win? Yeah, gay three.
I mean, he's a talented guy.
Very, very violent guy, you know, always going for that highlight knockout.
But e mean up until the Ferguson fight, I never even considered him as somebody who would be, you know? Ah, championship quality fighter.
Eso Yeah, not not surprised here, um, into the first round could be took him down.
And I mean, if there had been another 30 seconds in that round, the fight would have been over right then, if you had no defense on the ground.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was surprised he Look, I understand g strategy, right? Like you gotta, you know, he wanted to start fast and really just kind of overwhelmed him and he did hurt.
Could be with a couple of his hits, right? It's just that cabbie was just really tough.
And his corner Try to tell them.
Look, you need to slow down, right? Way love the, you know, intensity.
And you landed some nice clean shots until until the end where you took you down.
But slow down the pace a little bit.
You're gonna get yourself and yes, you know, I saw at the end around when he took him down.
I mean, he's gonna get it was only a matter of time before it could be gone back down on the ground again.
And so he took him down.
There is literally nothing he could do.
He did the same exact move on him in the second round.
Yeah, I mean, at the end of the first, I said the next time he takes him down, the fight's over.
Hey, had nothing for him and, you know, even on the feet, you know, he was he was throwing a bit, but you could tell he was he was scared of that takedown.
Hey, did he? Did He did Hurt.
Could be especially those late case, because even on the take down that end of the fight he hit.
Could be with a really nice leg kick and could be stumbled into the takedown.
But could be was just I think that's yeah, he had him a couple of times.
A couple of good shots.
I think that's why he went for the takedown at that point.
Yeah, but yeah, I mean, he was I want to say playing with him, but, I mean, he was just kind of testing himself on the feet before he decided to end it on the ground.
No, no, Absolutely.
Well, I think because could be was so well rounded, right? He figured he can He can stand in there with Gayatri, but yeah, as soon as Gates started, Hurt him a little bit.
He said, Okay, that's enough of that.
Let's just go down to the ground.
And, uh, I'll put you out all right? Yeah.
And then a Z said after the fight, Uh, you know, he gave his He gave his little speech.
He was very emotional, left his gloves and the rings. And he's retiring.
You know, we'll see.
I don't ever believe fighters when they say they're retiring.
Maybe he stays away.
But my If I had to bet, I would say he he'll be back.
I feel a little differently about Could be.
I think he's done right.
He's dominated everybody. 29.
No, that's never happened before, right? Nobody's finished 29.
Uh, yeah, he's And we've had conversations about this offline.
Um, there are some of these fighters that are at the point of career where we understand as fighters, especially in USC.
It's hard to walk away.
But there's some of these guys where they very well could just walk away.
And I come back.
You know, we mentioned John Jones.
You know, Habib, you know, like I mean D c just retired.
You know, there's a lot of these fighters that at the point where it's like I've done everything, there's literally nothing more I can add to my resume.
Thio make a look any better, and I think he was at that point.
I mean, like, uh, he has some.
He has a few really, really, really good wins.
But, you know, like everybody else in the UFC, he's got a lot of winds over people who are kind of just guys, you know? I mean, he's 13 or no in the u. S.
I mean, personally, you know, they're talking, talking about He's the best pound for pound, you know? Number one, maybe best ever.
And I I don't think so, but I don't think so either. But he has.
I mean, he could make an argument for hey, can, um But you walk away right now, you could move up to two welterweight and try it.
Guzman, you know some of the fighters there? Yeah.
I mean, it's tough to say he's done everything he can when he hasn't had even fought.
You know, they scheduled that fight three or four times, and it never never came off.
I don't think you get anything more from fighting Ferguson.
Yes, he could be.
With what? The way? I don't think he's a type.
Not everybody could move up.
You know what I'm saying? Like just because you could say he doesn't mean that's necessarily the right move for him.
Not everybody can add weight and be this.
I'm not saying anything for sure, but they said that he thinks he can move up.
But, you know, uh, that's why I look at and I say, I think he'll be back because he's obviously very emotional right now, having just lost his father.
And this is his first fight without his father.
And you see this a lot with athletes, you know, and especially athletes who were very close or, you know, their fathers were big parts of their careers, you know? And you know the same thing with Michael Jordan.
You know, people lost his father and said, I'm gonna go play baseball.
And my dad wanted me to, uh and I think at a little some time away, I think we will be.
He'll come back real quick.

Okay, recover combat sports, NFL, NBA, All that good stuff.
Well, so assuming could be was done like he's actually retiring.
Not coming back.
Um, that leaves the lightweight division without a champion, right? Yeah.
You heard the Annick talking to G.
Thank your next plan is probably gonna be for a title, Probably.
Yeah, I think that's gonna be him versus the winner of McGregor and Korea.
And, you know, could be e.
I mean, I'm not saying that he's not a great fight or anything.
I just I just don't think he's the best pound for pound ever, right, But yeah.
So But you've lost that guy.
You lost one of your greatest fighters of all time.
So you better get on and make sure you stay on Congress.
Good side at this point.
Uh, well, you can't.
You can't hemorrhage stars like that.
Well, we were talking about, you know, fighters that could retire soon.
That's kind of the conversation that we're having, right? What's what's Dana gonna do here? I mean, he's having a hot year in 2020.
I mean, a lot of that's just because, you know, he was one of the few sports that that we're going at the time.
But, um, you have John Jones maybe one or two fights before he hangs it up.
Connor can't hang it up at any time.
He's made more than enough money he could have possibly imagine.
So, Really, it's just, you know, he fights at his own leisure, right? Um, pretty soon, Amanda Nunes could hang it up.
I mean, that's another person she has.
She's e mean men or women.
I could see her one of the best fighters ever.
She's dominated everybody.
I mean, who really, who is there left for her to fight? All right.
So she could be gone, you know? Could be just retired.
D. C just retired.
So I mean, as high, actually, your could be going soon, too.
So as high as us.
He's looking right now.
I mean, ah, lot of your stars could be gone and, like, two years, right? And you have to question like, how how are you gonna hold Congress interest? If he doesn't have a shot at that, fighting could be begin.
You know, he's he's already beat party.
Who is getting ready to fight again? and then after that, you know, I guess maybe, you know, like a thief Gay three fight for the title.
And then what? Yeah, you know, made Ferguson e.
I mean, we're probably looking at Adesanya and Whitaker rematch, right? What? It could look really good tonight.
Well, yeah, we didn't talk about that when that was the co main event.
Whitaker and Canon here.
Yeah, yeah, Whitaker look good.
Nearly not cannon ear out on the third.
You know, he got got rocked himself with the end of the fight, but, you know, he held on.
I think you won all three rounds, but he won 29 28 on all three cards.
Yeah, that that That brings up the question for Adesanya.
He had sent after his fight against Costa that he would fight cannon ear.
Right? Because he already knocked out Whitaker, you know, second round knockout.
Hey, beat you all, Romero.
He'd be a lot of the top guys in middleweight, right? So he said Yeah, I'd give canon earshot if he dominates Whitaker, which obviously didn't happen.
Eso at this point, you know, you gotta ask what's next? Yeah.
I guess would be possible, but I don't know.
That's if interest to Adesanya.
I know that he's been talking Ah, whole lot about John Jones.
So you know, if you want to make that happen, if you're serious about that move up, fight Black, which take that title and call John Jones out.
Um, yeah, there's There's nothing left for him at middleweight.
He dominated everybody.
And even though Whitaker has earned a rematch, I guess you could say I mean, he's fought well his last three fights, right? 2 to 3 fights.
Um, you know, But Adesanya already already beat you, man.
And if he's not interested in that fight, I understand if he wants to give you a rematch.
I understand that, too.
I think the second time where I would be a bigger fight.
Right? Um, but yeah.
Move up. Take that challenge.
I'm sure he wanted cannon near because Kennon near was a hot name, you know, he knocking people out? He was, like another, uh, cost a type of fighter.
But what occurred did to him what a senior was hoping to do to him first, right? Yeah.
You know, there's always been one of my things that UFC I don't I don't like the way they they produce their shows.
Basically, you know you have d C on there talking about could be And he's like he's dominated like nobody we've ever seen.
You know, he's 28.
No, you never seen anything like it.
And then, you know, they ask him about gay Jesus.
Oh, man, he's dominated like nobody we've ever seen before.
On then you also.
Then you turn around.
We're talking about Israel out of sight, just like 20 you know? So, like just you just got to stop.
You got to stop.
Everything is over the top.
Everything is the greatest fight in UFC history.
It just bugs me like it's not a big deal, but it just bugs me.
I get it is definitely annoying.
But e I mean, boxing doesn't thio like they're starting to get like that.
Now that that networks are citing, you know, their their own fighters.
And it's just kinda it's being carved up, like, you know, ESPN is with top rank.
So Lomachenko is the greatest thing we've ever seen.
Yeah, but yeah, now it's just irritating, but Yeah, I think that lasagna.
I'd like to see him move up and fight Block.
Which, um, that guy, he's really big, really strong, you know, he's a killer.
I mean, personally, I think that Adesanya will be ableto avoid those.
Yeah, I avoid those punches and get the win.
But I'd like to see it. Yeah.
And at that point, he wins that fight.
He's a champion.
John Jones will come back down to fight him.
John Jones only going up to heavyweight for one fight.
All right, well, yeah, And if they even give him that fight, you know, they're talking about in gone.
Ooh, getting a shot at ATM Yokich before they let Jon Jones fight.
Yeah, so, yeah, move up, get that belt and, you know, give Ah, give us the Adesanya and Jones fight before he gets a chance to move up. Yeah.
The other fight I want to mention was Walt Harris against.
I can't remember the other guy's name.
They call them to call them.
Drago was his nickname, but yeah, I was I was running for a while.
Harris. He had a tough 2019.
His daughter passed away And his the fight that he took, Uh, not too long after his dad passed away.
You know, he fired.
I want to say Dos Santos.
I didn't see that one get a chance to suit.
I think it was no scientist I could beginning wrong, but he had, you know, he fought well, came up short, but he came into this fight, uh, in better shape.
You know, he lost £30.
You could tell he was a lot more, you know, cut up.
And he started at a good pace and just, you know, drag a was was, you know, had a long reach advantage.
Long legs, long limbs.
And he caught him with a kick straight into the solar plexus and knocked the wind out of him.
And that was pretty much it for, uh, Alexander Volkov.
So, um, yeah, I don't know where he goes from here.
I mean, he's a quality fighter.
Um, I think there's there's some things that he still needs to work on.
Um, he's got power for sure, but power isn't everything.
Especially against guys like that that can that can neutralize it with, just, you know, a straight jab.
You know, the kicks to keep you.
Oh, you know, off of them.
So he mentioned something about having more of a ground game than people realize.
He needs to start working on that.
You know, there's there's several places you can go in the heavyweight division.
Uh, you know, obviously in Ghana is gonna be looking for a title shot, but he got Curtis Blades.
Rosen struck Derek Lewis.
You know? Does Santos is still out there. I mean, I don't know.
He, uh, shaved off his witness protection mustache yet he's ready to go again, but yeah.
I mean, there's there's a nice mix of kind of to our 2nd and 3rd tier fighters in the heavyweight division.
They can keep, you know, fighting each other and keep it entertaining.
Yeah, I think there's really only one top tier fighter in that division, though.
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
That's pretty much it.
There were two other three other fights on the card.
I mean, it was pretty entertaining card.
Um, but those those are the main fights.
Phil Hawes started his UFC career with a 18 2nd knockout, second fastest debut knockout in UFC history.
So congrats to him.
Uh yeah, that that that's pretty much it.
The big takeaways here obviously could be retiring, opening up the lightweight division and Robert Whitaker, you know, making his claim for another another shot at at style. Bender.
Yeah, that's gonna be interesting thing.
You know, Look, assign you can He has options, right? And no matter what he chooses, I'm gonna be there to watch.
But Whitaker is the awesome fighter man like that's That's the thing.
That's what makes Adesanya so interesting is that Whittaker is a very good fighter, very good fighter.
And to see Adesanya just break them down the way he did just e against like that, You know, he's not one of those guys that rushes in and just, you know, Oh, you know, like, he's a very smart fighter, you know? He's quick and he's got you know, he's got everything.
What if he's got everything? You know? He was a He was an excellent champion, but Adesanya was just a level above, you know? So you know, did he learn something for that fight? Fighters like Whitaker.
They can learn from losses.
So let's see what kind of adjustments he could make in the second fight.
If that happens, and see if if we make it more interesting, I still don't think he wins.
But I think it be it could be a more interesting fight.
Yeah, I don't think he would win a second fight.
And if I'm Adesanya? Yeah, he's already on the wrong side of 30.
Um, I'm at that point.
He's 20 and oh, yeah, he's the champion.
He's beat everybody in that division.
I'm moving up and taking nothing but make a fights.
You know? I'm gonna go fight Yang.
I'm going to try and fight John Jones.
You know, I'm not I'm not giving out. I'm not handing out rematches.
Two guys I've already knocked out.
And that's gonna be one of the things that Dana White hates.
That's that's where they're gonna butt heads.
Right? Because And that's what happened with the and white all the time with this starfighters they want to control, you know, the narrative.
They wanna say, Hey, look, this is what we want to fight and understandably right, because I just don't think as a whole.
USC does a great job promoting their fighters.
Yes, you've had.
You've had a couple of mega stars, right? You had I mean, well, three rows e Um uh, Connor.
And you could say Must be at all.
All right, but yeah, probably.
But other than that, and, you know, other than row Z, I would say the other two did it on their own.
I don't think you will see really helped him out.
So fighters want to control their own careers, control their own destiny so they could market themselves the way they feel is best for them.
And Adesanya is not gonna be any different.
He's a flashy fighter, right? He wants to be known like everybody else because, honestly, like, uh, those names that we name, he's a better fighter than all of them, right? Skill wise.
Yeah, he's a better fighter, so of course he wants to start him.
Why wouldn't he, right? So yeah, um, pretty quick.
I'm not sure what the next.
Um, but they said the next pay per view was I can't remember.
Yeah, Um, yeah, I don't I don't know.
I know they have another event next week, but I'm not sure what the next pay per view is.
Yeah, Yeah, I remember.
It was the one that knocked out the takashi do.
Got a, uh, Uriah Hall.
Anderson Silva next week.
That's next weekend.
That's not you know, it's not the next pay per view is Davison Fergus? Uh, Figueredo figure out.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And that is gonna be November 21st.
About a month out.
I mean, I'm gonna watch them.
I'm not I'm not gonna pay for it.
I don't think we'll need to be doing a stream about that one, but yeah, you won't be hearing from us about that one.
Unless something, uh, something big happens.
Yeah, we'll be back next week.
Uh, sometime next week.
Not not right after the fight, but with the in a way.
And, uh, Malloy Yeah.
Yeah, that's right, Maloney.
Anyway, Maloney and then and then Davante Juventus is fighting. Yeah.
Xander Crews, It's the same night, right? I think the same night.
So, yeah, there's gonna be a boxing podcast next week.
We'll have a lot to talk about.
And I've been teasing it for, like, weeks that I wanted to talk about the Canelo and Golden Boy beef.
Right? For those that don't know, You know, Canelo Alvarez is suing Golden Boy promotions for the issue that they're having with the zone.
Just getting the right fight set up and getting paid what he was promised.
So luckily for us, that's not going away anytime soon.
So we can talk about that whenever? Yeah, no, we have time.
I'm curious to see how long this thing is going to take, right? Like this.
Canela wants a sideline while they get this whole thing wrapped up.
Or does he just say okay? Just, you know, give me something fair.
I I know the zone reached out to them already and said, Okay, let's rework the deal a little bit.
So you're still getting a lot of money.
Plus, you know, you get some points based off of performance of the view, you know, But, you know, the base money that he's supposed to get in for a fight, I think is like 15 million less than when he was supposed to be making, So I don't know.
I don't know, but yeah, we'll dive into that, and, yeah, there's gonna be a pretty quick one.
We just wanted to get out of here and, uh, talk about it. Congrats, toe.
Be if this is his last fight, Um, one of the best careers ever.
, and he dominated everybody now? Yeah, pretty much.
I mean, I still would have liked to have seen, uh, could be even Connor have a rematch.
Means I think that that countered, I don't I don't think kinda was in the right headspace for that, you know, a couple of years laid off, and yeah, I mean, he seemed to be kind of not not fully invested at that point, right? I mean, you got him in the middle of the fight.
Talent could be pay. It's just business. Yeah.
That's what happens when you take a fight with Mayweather and you make more money that you could have possibly have imagined.
Right, You know, um, yeah, your your your will to fight it drops a little bit.
You know, money, money does change.
You like Yeah, you might still think you you still have it.
But there's a part of you that feels, man, I'm financially secure.
I don't need to do this anymore.
You're not hungry anymore When you're eating steak every night and starting up your own whiskey brand.
And the thing is, you know, the beef that those two had it was really on Habib side.
It was manufactured on counter side.
Kind of doesn't really care about, could be right.
He does all that stuff, you know, he he flew from Ireland toe where he was and and and broke the window on the on the bus.
You know that like he's mad because he knows the cameras are rolling and he's trying to promote a fight.
He's trying to get at that fight, going like he's a promoter.
And then he injured a couple of kebabs friends, and you've got really angry and upset.
Yeah, and this is and this is really four.
Yeah, that's really could be.
And encounters mind.
He's just Yeah, he said it during the fight.
Look, man, it's just business.
Like he really didn't care about it, you know, But to be honest.
He sure he doesn't care now.
E feel like I feel like he probably does.
I think he's back into the UFC mode right now.
I don't think he's talking about fighting Pacquiao.
He's talking about fighting back out, but he's fighting.
He's fighting in the UFC in January, you know, he's back into it.
You know, at that point, I said it had been a couple of years since he, uh he fought in the UFC and, you know, he hopped in What could be I'm sure he knew he was gonna lose that fight.
Well, we'll see.
We'll see if it could be, comes back.
I have a feeling he won't that I feel like he might be done.
I thought he might be done.
I'm gonna say, a year and a half to two years, you'll hear he's ready to come back two years.
A year and a half to two years, I think he'll be ready.
I'm not making this prediction.
I'm just gonna float it out there.
What if he's gone a year? Two years, gets out his UFC contract goes to Bela Tor.
Is that where his brothers fighting now or is his cousin his his cousin, his cousin signed with Bella Toria.
Just I'm just just just floating out there.
Just this, then, you know? Yeah, He could be in belt or that would be huge.
That would be huge.
Beltre keeps hanging around, man, like I understand.
You know, we don't ever talk belt or on our podcast or anything like that.
But they're out there.
Yeah, there around.
Yeah, they, uh they don't have the fighters, so Yeah, but that's what they say.
They're changing out their strategy, Trying to sign young prospects, a supposed thio fading stars.
So they start doing that, we'll start talking about him, you know? But look, they've been around for a while, so you can't count them out.
They could absolutely do that. Right.
Uh, u s C has a better product, but you know me and be aren't fans that in a white I don't think he doesn't particularly great job of running USC like I'm not saying he's doing a bad job.
Obviously, they're making money, and they got a huge deal with ESPN, so he's doing something right.
But there's just a lot of things that he's doing that.
I feel like he's not doing right.
He could do a lot more Thio to make the sport bigger.
Yeah, they don't They don't nurture their their talent, right? Right.
And I think I think they're gonna I think you'll see fans because I've seen some comments on Twitter about how boxes of dying sport you'll see is, you know, has taken over.
And you know that Zo it's blowing up.
I think we're gonna find out, um, the next few months and going to 2021 that boxing is still king.
Yeah, Bison took took time off right there, being safe with the coronavirus.
You know, the pandemic that's hitting, because really, nobody should be doing anything right now.
Still, but they want to take the time, you know, to come back from this, and it's starting to ramp up.
You know, you saw a really good fight last week with Lomachenko and until a few more Lopez, you know, we got two good fights coming up next weekend, and this is more fights.
Yeah, and you're talking about Lomachenko.
And in a way, those air two of people's top £5 for pound fighters, both fighting for free on ESPN.
So, yeah, it's been Yeah, it's been it's been quiet on.
Part of that is also because, you know, they're having There's been some trouble in in, uh, in matchmaking, right? Like Canelo.
He said he's having problems with his promoter, uh, bud Crawford and arrow spins.
Can't get that that sign, you know that We're still trying to work that out, But, you know, uh, so we see Lomachenko on T f e mo in a way and Maloney next week, and these were not pay per views like that.
They're gonna be grabbing people's attention, right? No, I agree.
So we're gonna find out.
I think 2021 is gonna be huge for boxing.
You gonna e mean way? Still haven't seen, uh, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury Part two yet? That's gonna get well, Fury is talking about wanting to fight.
Uh, December 5th doesn't know who he's going to fight, but he wants to fight December 5th.
So you still have that rematch. You still have Anthony Joshua.
You know, maybe one day he'll fight one of those guys.
So do you have two big heavyweight bouts still to come? Um, and then I think you just going to see a lot of big matches in 2021.
I mean, Lopez is talking about fighting a demon Haney, you know, and eventually, Tank, they was gonna have to fight somebody to, right? He's got to step up and and put his big boy pants on.
And And which, of course, Stevenson.
You know Virgil Ortiz? Yeah.
There's a lot of of young, upcoming, super talented fighters who are about to come into their own thing.
So all right, we can end the stream here.
