I'm Matt Williamson with yard barker here to talk about the 40 Niners going cross country to New England to take on the Patriots this week.
Jimmy Garoppolo returns in New England, and obviously, Bill Belichick is very familiar with his strengths and weaknesses.
Garoppolo played a lot better last week than the week before when he was pretty obviously not healthy.
I'm still not upon 2% sure that he's, you know, in tip top shape, and they are going to try to protect him a lot, But that is an interesting dynamic.
Both of these teams will look to run the football and control the time of possession, and so far both have done a good job in this year in that capacity in both capacities, running the ball, controlling the time possession.
Neither of these defense's are at the level they were a year ago, though, and both are missing pieces from those excellent units.
In 2019 I thought they were two of the best three.
Defense is in the league.
They've taken noticeable steps back since then, but both defense's air still allowing many school production to opposing running backs, though, which could make for a really slugfest in New England this week.
New England's past protection has been quite good this year, but they really just lack any sort of explosive weapon in the passing game.
Theofanis slow and it's kind of hard to watch, to be honest.
As a result, they basically run the ball on half their plays, which you don't see in the NFL very often anymore.
And just under 73% of New England's touchdowns have come via the run game, and they're wide receivers have just one touchdown all year, one touchdown catch.
Another by product of this is Patriots.
Opponents this year are running the ball also very close to 50% of their snaps.
And that might be exactly when San Francisco on to do anyway.
Um, rarely do you see a run versus run type of game.
But boy, that's what it feels like here.
I'm also interested to Belichick does with George Kittle.
I think that will be priority number one to try to take him away, Easier said than done.
Um, it's also rather startling how often the Patriots have turned the ball over on a per dr basis, but on the other hand, the defense continues to do the same in terms of forcing turnovers.
They're kind of breaking even.
The Niners have been really poor on special teams, but New England hasn't been up to their usual high standards since phase, either.
In 2020 things like that could make a real difference.
Somebody thing is gonna be a really slow moving, low scoring run.
The football every first downs, a big deal type of game.
I just think the 40 Niners have more weaponry.
More big play guys.
Deebo, Samuel Brand who goes type of guys.
I'll take the 40 Niners, 22 17.
I am at Williamson with yard Barker.
