And with that, we welcome you back to SportsCastr News MBA with myself tomorrow.
Britain, of course, joined every Monday morning by Keith McPherson.
The finals finished with nothing left to do but get into speculating around where everyone's going and what team.
They're gonna make big moves, and that's where we're going this morning, Keith.
But we actually call him with that age old tale around Kyrie and LeBron James, and they just they just couldn't get along.
And every time the Kyrie makes a comment, it has to be taken as a slight before we dive in on some of the other more pertinent information.
Do you go on the side of Amman Shumpert, who basically came out and said, Listen, like some guys, sometimes guys just don't mesh well together, and that's why they go their own ways and they look to form their own teams.
It doesn't mean they hate each other.
It doesn't mean that they're at each other's throats or trying to take shots at each other.
It just means you're like our style doesn't match our our personalities don't mesh and that's all right.
Do you think it is as easy as saying that, or is there more there? I think it is easy to say that when you're Iman Shumpert, a guy who played with both of them, a guy who was in the locker room with both of them, a guy who traveled with both of them.
And then Iman even was with the Nets for a little bit.
This year with Kyrie, I don't know which way he leans.
He probably leans more LeBron than Kyrie, but he's seen it.
He's seen behind the scenes what we haven't seen, what rumors, you know, get started by what people talk about behind closed doors.
He's seen how these guys interact with each other, and I get a good feeling from Kyrie that, like he doesn't bow down toe LeBron, like everybody else about bows down to LeBron.
And, of course, it's Kyrie.
He doesn't do anything traditional.
He doesn't think the way anyone thinks on uh, even though he was Robin to LeBron's Batman, he and his mind probably thinks he was Batman.
Uh, even then he was like You guys got that backwards.
Remember who took the shot? It was May on the Batman here.
Listen exactly you gotta have those Alfa personalities like, you know, and I don't know what other examples I might point you read, Say, you know, not everybody is automatically going to sync up with with LeBron James.
Now the great example out there in l.
With an Anthony Davis who is now coming into that prime of his career and has a great opportunity to really cement himself to.
Seems like he gets along with it.
But again, there's nothing wrong with being your own cat and kind of saying, Listen, I'm gonna do my own thing here.
I'm gonna go my own way.
Um, the There's some news now out around potential moves in the off season for the Lakers.
We know that Rajon Rondo opted out, so he's gonna go ahead and test those free agent Waters because he really, I think, bolstered his market value over the playoff run with L. A.
Before we get to the name that's out there, there's still, of course, talk about chatter, right? Talk about everything under lived basketball.
There's still some chatter now around the idea of Yeah, well, sure, LeBron won the championship, but again, you didn't have clay you didn't have stuff you didn't have the Golden State Warriors in your way.
You get lucky with the Clippers.
And what happens with them? Uh, is there any way for LeBron James to win a championship without without there being some level of sure you did? Sure you did this year? No, there is a collective of Internet trolls.
They must have a group chat on the side.
And they say, How do we conjure up a story to say why this championship wasn't valid? Or why this doesn't mean so much or why LeBron want it for any reason.
Besides LeBron just being great.
And the first thing I thought about when I saw this people saying, Well, if Steph and Clay were healthy, the Warriors might have been in it.
If Katie and Kyrie played this year, the Nets might have been in their way.
Well, yeah, I think about all of the teams that LeBron has had to face in all of his title runs.
He's faced Hall of Famers.
He's beating Hall of Famers.
He's faced former NBA champions and beat NBA champions, and people forget those calves teams that he played on.
They had some injuries to.
He went through a run without Kevin Love.
He went through a run without Kyrie.
He also was on the other side of that, too.
So it just is what it is every year, you know, it's the MBA, and this year, being a full year, October October to crown a championship, you're gonna lose guys to injuries.
You're not gonna have the same teams that start the season that end the season.
It's valid, it's valid.
And, uh, LeBron, I'm happy to see get his fourth chip.
There's nothing that anyone can say or do to take it away from that man.
He's walking into marquee in Las Vegas with the trophy, proud as ever, and I'm happy to see it for the King.
You know, it just clicked in my head, too, of because now, in our in the current times, with social media, you know that there's always going to be the detractors from anything.
Doesn't matter what it is, right is Tom Brady.
The goat, you know, is Aaron Rodgers.
He come up short talking NFL kind of side of things, and then the MBA spectrum, though, like, I wonder what would they have said about Michael Jordan? Right early on there? When, like once, he solidified himself in the first two seasons of his career and then came up against the Pistons and lost like, What would they be talking about then? Uh, Michael Jordan just can't Can't get over the hump, Not physical enough.
Doesn't have the right mentality to be able to beat the likes of Detroit Pistons like.
And it's so easy.
Just like your response, right? It's so easy to sit here and just laugh about it now because you're so far removed.
Yeah, but we all we could see the legacy that the man built, like 10 20 years from now you're gonna look back and it's gonna be, too May so laughable that anyone wants to take away from what LeBron James accomplished over the course of his career in the appearances that he had.
And just before we got started, we even talked about even the year where you said, Well, they should have beat Dallas like they were on paper.
We're the better team.
You go right, but teams bubble up and rise to the occasion.
Even the playoffs.
This year we saw Dallas Mavericks or we see you know, the Utah Jazz.
We see the Denver Nuggets right.
Take this big leap forward in the playoffs like maybe that was just their time.
Everything clicked for them that year.
Toe win a championship, like and you? We talked about this last time we were on together.
You went there 10 times, Man, like the accomplishment of being in a place to win a championship.
That in and of itself, is a big deal.
Most guys legacy guys, Hall of Fame players get there maybe once or twice in their career.
And you're talking about trying to diminish a guy that's doing it, doing it for over 50% of his career, showing up in the finals.
LeBron's career is gonna age like fine wine.
It's gonna get better with time.
They're gonna have to name the Finals M V P Trophy after him.
There's gonna be an Adam Silver alluded to that this year.
He's like, This is a guy we're gonna probably have to name a trophy after, because when you think about the finals, you think about LeBron.
I said on our last stream that last year LeBron wasn't in the finals.
I didn't even watch.
I was at Bonnaroo somewhere in the woods, and there's a lot of people that weren't as interested in that finals.
With Coke versus the Warriors, the LeBron LeBron gets to the finals, the finals.
We're used to seeing LeBron.
I'm a baseball guy and they talk about every single postseason.
How Mike Trout is the LeBron of baseball, but we can't get him in the postseason.
We get great postseason action without our best player, the MBA's best players in the finals, year in, year out.
You can't take anything away from LeBron.
And when we do look back, and I think when we look back in five years, when LeBron hangs it up and we really look at like almost every year this dude figured out a way to get there when he was healthy and he won a bunch, he lost a bunch.
But it's still remarkable to see the chosen one.
The guy that we're all witnesses to see exceed those expectations that were already super high.
So and still, I'm still controlled for it.
That's the Internet man waits in the Internet age where now, with social media.
Everyone's got an opinion and so many trolls as I like to call them trolls.
They just wanna be the counter.
They just wanna be the reply.
It's like you're never gonna get, ah, 100% of everybody to think one way when you have social media with anonymous accounts people that could just jump in to say No, I think this okay, even if you don't really believe that, dude, I just did, You know, in the NFL side of things covering the Giants in the game yesterday, I usually don't say much during the games.
Just wanna, you know, sit and watch.
It s The Giants are on their way to winning their first game of the season, and I watch three plus straight hours of everyone.
This is why this player is terrible.
This is why we're awful.
You know, all this stuff you ruined our chance for Trevor.
Lawrence added that although I think they win the game and all those same people are like, Can I get a heck? Yeah, Just what I'm like, dude.
I'm like, Come on, man.
Like, listen like I don't love being, you know, following a losing team.
But like either supporting their beyond the train or not like, don't be this thing where, like, I'm hanging out the door.
If it doesn't go that way, you're gonna see me fade off like it's just It is so brutal.
So many people want to be the negative guy or the counter guy that gets all the likes and retweets for being the first one to have that negative take.
The Giants were looking like they were about to lose that game.
Ah, good team converts that two point conversion and beats the Giants.
I saw a lot of people on Twitter that flipped really quickly.
Once, once the two point conversion didn't land, it was like Giants pride.
Here we go, baby, you know, it is brutal, Dude, it's brutal.
And it stretches all across all sports, obviously.
So that being the case as I tried to gain my sanity last night or, you know, late afternoon, let's get into now the guy for the Lakers that's getting rumor.
We say Rondo is going to test the market, obviously, the point guard position, even though we know James plays that point forward amorphous position on this roster.
Who are you gonna bring in? That helps supplement and support that role, though, and it's Derrick.
Rose is getting thrown out there, man.
A guy who, from a career perspective, looked like he had really bottomed out and maybe his body just taking a toll early in his career.
He spends a couple of years there in Minnesota and then find his way to Detroit.
This last year, Man put up 18 points, gave, you know, 5.
5, almost six rebounds, shot 49% from the field.
You gotta love that.
Obviously, um, does this guy at this stage of his career, Does he make sense for the Lakers? I mean, I think if he's healthy, he represents an upgrade overall in terms of season impact and even to the playoffs as a Rajon Rondo.
And then, obviously, we know Avery Bradley may be coming back into the mix as well is this.
Does this create a nice, complimentary piece, and maybe to what we started at right? Does he fit in and mesh in well with LeBron James team? If they could figure out how to get the deal done Yeah, Derrick Rose comes in and he gives you points that you're not getting from anybody else on that team.
If Rondo can step into a finals game and give you 19 then Derrick Rose could give you 25.
I think, if they could get the deal done if Rondo walks, I would love to see D Rose with a D and LeBron D.
Rose has a special place in basketball.
Lord D Rose was like, you know, he was the chosen one after the chosen one.
The road youngest was the youngest M v p ever in the n b a in any season.
You know, coming out of Chicago, Simeon High school.
Uh, you know, going to Memphis ball in their coming into the league.
So much hype around D Rose.
And, uh, for him to be able to, you know, come back from those knee injuries, rehab and still have this lengthy of a career.
Everyone, we would love to see him get a ring.
So it's like you put him with LeBron and a D.
He's in good position to potentially do that, and I really think the Lakers are not going to rest on this championship.
They're going to x explore every option to get veteran.
If you could add a guy like D Rose, who's a veteran, he's got the I.
If he's healthy, he's still got enough in his legs.
He still got enough in his game to score points, to take some of that weight off of LeBron off of a D.
And, you know, in those nights where they might not have it, maybe D Rose can turn it on and be the leading scorer.
I know it's just rumors right now, but I'm sure the Lakers air exploring it.
Like I said, they're not going to rest on this championship.
They're going to make the moves to make themselves better for next year.
They know the competition as we spoke of, is getting healthy.
The Warriors, the net, and they're gonna have to be better.
Um, next year they can't go into next season with this roster as is or potentially losing a guy.
When you win a championship, you're always gonna lose a couple of players, so if the roses on the table they could get it done.
I'd love to see that that Zatz three m v p level players on that team that could carry that team on any given night.
Any three of those guys between D.
Rose, LeBron and Aid could be the leading scorer for the lake.
And it's interesting to think about that.
You talk about a Rondo who obviously is there with the Lakers, help win that championship, even a Dwight Howard who went through a different kind of arc in his career, right from being the guy and then kind of flat lines out, it seems like you can't fit in anywhere.
He gets the have a back end of his career that feels like you kinda, you know, elevate your story a little bit.
Derrick Rose remember at one point, like when he talked to the media after dealing with those injuries like he talked about thinking about his long term health and physically and being able to be active with his family and his kids like there was a There was a period there where it felt like maybe Derrick Rose is gonna bow out of the league a lot sooner than we anticipated, and it does make me think a little bit about John Wall.
He's never spoken that way, But just the idea of man.
All of a sudden you run into, you know, 23 years stretch where it feels like you can't stay healthy and you just get that sense of man.
Is this guy's body breaking down? And now, though, time in Detroit it looks like he's just made that little adjustment to his game, Right? Okay, I can't be the same physical player inside going attacking at the Rimas I was.
But I can still be a really high level, productive player.
And if you look at the Lakers to your point man, they're not rested on it like everything about this, eh? NBA Finals.
And this season was legit, and they were the champs.
And also there's a lot of teams that didn't have success that we maybe thought they were going to like, you know, if they have been, the Milwaukee Bucks could have figured themselves out.
That might have presented a more difficult challenge in the finals, even in the Western Conference.
And some of those teams, like even the teams you beat, either teams you get past their young, they're hungry.
They're going to be elevating.
So it's gonna be interesting to see how the supplemental pieces change around the Lakers and around LeBron and A D, and you make a great point about We're trying to find somebody, whether it's Derrick Rose or another position on this team.
That could help carry the scoring load throughout the year because even though LeBron proved that he's still the best, you still want to approach the year and say If there's a way because he did this thing this past season, when he was like watch me come out and make a statement and he did it all year long, you still want to find a way to say and also LeBron, you don't have to do that again this year.
If you don't want to write like we can mitigate this a little bit because I'd rather be able to tell you if we need you through that Western Conference.
That could be a Ah, much more challenging road next season as opposed to this one.
We may need you for six games.
Siri's consistently to get to the finals.
We may need you to turn it on even more than we anticipated.
so finding a way to give him that extra rest and extend his legs into the postseason is going to be crucial for the Lakers.
Yeah, I think the league has shifted year to year, whether it's a Big Three or a duo, Big Three or a duo on.
Going into last year, everyone was saying it was duos because she had LeBron and a D.
You had Westbrook and hard and teaming up.
Um, but the Lakers know that they possibly are in the market for a third star.
As Brooklyn Nets fans, all we hear is, Do Katie and Kyrie need a third star? Who's that third star? Is it gonna be Bradley Beal? Is it gonna be Drew Holiday? I don't think it's gonna be either one of those guys, but I do think the Lakers top priority is going to be bringing in someone with Star potential, um, to be that third score a third star, maybe off the bench or a starter and a as of right now in October, which would be the MBA summer like if this was June and the finals just ended, that conversation would come up.
That conversation has come up now, and it fits.
And if d Rose wants to play there now, D roses been a little bit of a journeyman.
He went from Detroit, Minnesota, New York.
You know, I lost over the New York years. Yeah, I forgot.
I forgot about that.
He was with the Knicks, and I mean, obviously he wasn't at his best, but you made a good point about how he played this year.
I think it's just a level of maturity.
I think it's a level of experience knowing Hey, D Rose is one of the most explosive guys we've ever seen.
Maybe you can't jump up and jam it 10 times a game.
Maybe, you know, landing on your knees like that like it's just a matter of changing his game.
And he has, um, I think he'd be a great fit with the Lakers.
I think they are looking for a third star.
So now let's tie it into the Rondo piece, which we started here in this conversation and around the idea of guys fitting together in personalities and having that overall team personality.
You know, out there in L.
A on another in another space inside the same arena, the Clippers came up enormously short for what their aspirations were.
There's a couple levels to this because right now, back over in Toronto, in the Northeast, you know, Northeast over there.
They're talking about how Van Fleet may be in line for a big contract and you think about Kyle Lowry.
And those guys are the bulldog mentality, that roster.
So y goes over to L. A.
They bring in Paul George, you have all these pieces.
And now it's the speculation.
There's a possibility of Boy what a great fit Rondo could be into that roster.
To give that personality and to have that kind of mentality that coach is not going to give you.
But now they're saying that like, there's this possibility that some of the players on that roster didn't love probably the same treatment that why God when he was in Toronto, But they were in a much different path of like we wanna win this thing right now and worry about the details later.
There's a speculation that, like the Coe treatment right of managing workload and what it looks like during the regular season that maybe that rubs some of the players the wrong way.
We know Doc Rivers exits.
They get Ty Lue on that five year deal.
He was maybe gonna goto Houston.
They keep him there so they keep some stability on the coaching staff in that regard.
But how do you feel about the state of the Clippers right now? Because what felt like this automatic, great fit.
Paul, George, Everything coming together, it's gonna be this battle in L.
It now feels like that thing is teetering on its existence in terms of getting blown up before it even had a chance to be.
Yeah, I feel like these rumors, these things, they don't come out of nowhere.
Um, some people do make them up on Twitter, but there's always some truth to these type of things.
And what did you expect when Kuai comes over there right now? Last summer in July, when Katie signed, we weren't sure where coup I was going to sign.
People were saying maybe he was going to sign with the Lakers, but no, he signs with the Clippers.
He has some conversations, probably with Steve Balmer and the organization on what he needs to come to the Clippers.
It isn't just that the Clippers are a great organization and he wants to wear Clippers jersey.
There's gonna be some perks.
It's almost like college recruiting, but obviously a way different level because it's professional.
When I heard that he was living in San Diego two hours away from L. A.
That to me there's something wrong with that there right now.
Wants to return home, but also not really home.
You mean to tell me this guy is supposed to be from Compton from L A L A R way They have these new balance commercials of him driving around in a lowrider in L. A.
The new king of L. A.
Right LeBron, we know is in l.
A. But they're saying he's in San Diego.
Yes, he went to San Diego State.
Maybe he's got a nice place there, but it's a two hour drive.
So if he's late for team meetings late for the flight because he's traveling for two hours, which I think two hours is the average in traffic, it might go up to three hours, right? But I'm not surprised because this is Kawhi Leonard.
He's coming off a MBA championship.
His value was never higher than it was going into last year.
They're gonna do what they gotta do to please him.
They're gonna do what they gotta do, and it's it's superstar treatment that Montrezl Ooh, Will, Pat Beverley, What did you guys expect? Well, you know, this is what happens when you bring it.
You you actually land the top free agent.
This is what happened.
So that's the weird part of it for me, too, because you mentioned some of those guys and pat bed comes to mind immediately.
I'm like, All right, this guy's got that dog mentality.
Whatever they made, this rubbed him the wrong way, but and go.
Yeah, but that's like, you're not You're not.
You're not even you're not Rajon Rondo Dog mentality win a championship or, you know, I mean, like your your support role.
So if those guys are getting riled up about what's happening for quite like, don't take a big step back, friend and just examine where you are in the hierarchy of this.
If it meant that you weren't gonna be here to get by the way you're here because Co.
I looked at the roster and said, like I like this guy.
Let's keep my like Lou will you know I'll take these supplemental players.
So by the grace of CO y you find yourself still on a championship caliber team.
So you know that's probably an internal thing where you go, Yeah.
If it was you say the Lakers situation, right, I would wonder if he had gone. Stay.
A. And it's a D, and it's LeBron and its CO y.
I could understand and maybe see the friction off.
You know what? LeBron James doesn't have to play every night like he could.
He could take his load management if he wants to, but he doesn't do that right.
He does go full bore.
So I wonder how those mentalities would have influenced who I may be changed.
His perception of how they would have they would have adapted to each other in L.
You don't have that like you don't have to examine what other people are looking for.
And maybe you should be willing to hear what the pat beds with world have to say, but also no, like also I don't have to, and then you bring in Paul George and I think it's the same thing.
Like, I think that Paul George probably has a closer mentality to Kawhi Leonard, then ah, Pat Beverley than Rajon Rondo than any of these guys that you know even than a James Harden.
Or then a Russell Westbrook, right? Like there's different personalities and different mentalities around what it is.
Regular season, two postseason.
And if you're quite Leonard coming off a championship and what your expectations are, you're trying to get to the playoffs and then listen, you have to deal with Paul.
George maybe had injuries that his shoulder could have been an issue, but he comes up small in the playoffs like all those things play a factor in the results.
And it, just like you said, could be speculation.
Be very interesting to see what tweaks they make to their roster, but it has that dangerous ring off a group of guys that don't all necessarily meshed together.
And you're going to have issues coming into another season where you're limited, by the way, because you gave away a ton of assets to get Paul George in there to please Kawhi Leonard.
So it's weird to think about how pre season this past year, both L A teams.
You thought This is a freight train to the Western Conference finals and it felt like that throughout the year and now in the postseason.
Got one team talking about running it back. Little tweaks.
Let's try to get this ring again next year.
And the other side of that, that arena is sitting there saying, We don't know.
We are in a total state of chaos and a lot of ways about what we need to do to get ourselves to the Finals this upcoming season.
I think it's just like like I said, Now we're in what would have been the MBA summer? You got to take all of this with a grain of salt in L.
There's gonna be some drastic changes, I think because it was a drastic failure this year, and some of those guys we're gonna get moved.
Um, you got two guys that air six men in the year.
I think one of those guys is gonna end up somewhere else.
And when you think about the picks and what it took for them to get Kawai what it took to get PG.
They're gonna have to figure it out with those guys.
You kind of married yourself to that situation and whoever was there before, whoever wasn't there.
I guess it doesn't really matter what you think or what you want.
Like we've seen this in the n b A and with our own team, right? We all talk about the Nets culture and all Kenny Atkinson and the gritty Nets, the underdog Nets and what the Nets built.
But then the fans had to take a second and think, No, no, no, You actually did land Katie and Kyrie and this new model of the MBA.
It follows the stars.
And if you wanna win like this is what you got to get used to it, it's not gonna be the old way.
The old way attracted these guys.
But then once these guys get in here, they're the star players.
They run the show.
It's all about them at the end of the day because they have the power to potentially take us from and an average competitive team to a championship team.
So I don't know it's gonna be interesting to see, especially because off the rivalry that exists right there in L.
Now the you know your in home rivals in your same court won the championship in the year that you were supposed to meet him in the Western Conference finals and you didn't even do that.
So they got to make the decisions.
Gotta make the moves before they open up that that new stadium that they're building for the for the Clippers in the old Forum area.
Well, that wasn't funny, too, because it would have been funny between so great to see a team.
You know, this is the bubble.
Regular times you could have seen the Western Conference finals of two teams playing each other home court on their home court while away.
Still, you know, the excitement around that coming into the year was gonna be pretty insane.
But your reference point is great, though, because you and I covering the nets, you know how you feel about a Lou Williams, how you feel about a Pat Bev.
Yeah, that's got that's got to shift and change, because it's the way that we felt about so many great role players and arguably those two guys six men in the year.
Candidates like that's a real difference from some of the guys that played in Brooklyn.
But once you land the big name, you got to be prepared to shift.
You got to be prepared to pivot and understand whatever it takes, because that's what you buy into and more often than not at least, pays off in deep playoff runs and opportunities to be competing for championships.
So listen, if you're in l.
A Clippers fan, sign up, get ready like changes were probably coming.
And that's all right, because this is all in the vein off.
As we head towards our new arena as we try to build our own identity in L. A.
It's gonna have to be a shifting focus in terms of the pieces around.
What are your two big stars? Kawhi Leonard, Obviously, Paul George.
What we can do is wait, man.
It's all speculation until some of these things start to fall.
So we're looking forward to the n B.
We're looking forward to some of the free agency moves that are gonna come until then.
Obviously, you can continue to follow us here using the hashtag s CNN befor older MBA coverage Keith McPherson doing double duty not just here, but also on the NFL side of things as he's wearing the shameful Dallas Cowboys T shirt you got on Monday night Tilt.
You're gonna be doing some some coverage today in preparation for that.
Yeah, I gotta episode of How about him coming up? I'll probably do in the next half hour and then I'll be on tonight with the SportsCastr NFL guys previewing the Monday night football game that I don't know about.
I'm scared to watch the Cowboys in prime time America's team.
The laugh at it's gonna be It's gonna be interesting, man.
The NFC East that keeps giving in terms off the highs and typically the lows of what is going on there right now.
You can, of course, check him out using what's the hashtag for? For how about him? This hashtag How about him? Um, pretty simple.
My are for my giants coverage.
So I you know, I was I was waiting for an abbreviation there.
Listen, that's how we exit these things, which is the crisp clean.
Yeah, Adam, it's about as obvious as it could get.
It's the name of the show.
That's what you're gonna wanna look for.
Check out Keith doing that, Doing the NFL, eh? NBA coverage as well.
Keith McPherson, for all of his other content.
Following on social media.
Doing the dang thing.
We'll be back in.
Keith got double duty the rest of the way today.
I'll see you tomorrow.
Actually, with Kate McPherson filling in, we'll extend the N B A conversation until then.
That's right, Friends.
Until then, be well and we will catch up with you soon.
